This is a VERY laid back gay bar. A little too laid-back for me. We stopped by on a not so busy night. We entered and there was about 10-15 people in the bar, a few at the bar & some peppered throughout. I'd had a couple drinks at another bar before arriving & was a little boisterous I admit. The staff was nice, I wouldn't say overly friendly. This place isn't meant for dancing. The jukebox & the patrons don't really allow for it. I think that I'm a little too animated for this place. The age range of this bar is 30-70, I'd say. If you're looking for an easy going night with some cheap drinks & casual conversation, this is the place for you. It's not a fancy or pretentious bar. It's not located in an overly desirable location, but it's a nice place. I mean, they had The Golden Girls playing on the tv behind the bar, what more could you ask for?! Thank you for being a friend!

It is no secret that I love a dive bar. A gay dive bar is just freakin icing on the cake! Gravy on the meat! It makes me swoon how much I love the idea of a gay dive bar. BUT the reality was equivalent to my dreams. Bar, U shaped, 1 TV for those that have proclivities toward watching football. Jukebox for those that like to rock out. And by that I mean everything from country to Taylor Swift to techno beats. The patrons are mostly males of any age between 25 and looking totes younger than 70 yo! I got many compliments on being the coolest chick there....followed by...but you are the ONLY chick here. No matter, I take compliments no matter what. FUN and HILARIOUS boys. Truly attentive and awesome bartenders that got to know you and also never let that drink go dry. A dance with a sweetheart. Sketchy bathroom trips. My regular cabbie saying "what are you doing THERE?" when I called him to come get me. A straight guy with a UT hat on telling me that UT won in overtime against SC. GOOD GOD MAN. THIS IS THE BEST GAY BAR EVER. And perhaps one of the best ANY BARS I've visited in a while.

While in Nashville, we wanted to experience the gay scene. The first night, we visited the Stirrup. We think it's a play on words with stirrups that you wear or to stir up your drink. It was a week day evening, so there weren't a lot of people there. They have a full bar. I had a whiskey and water. The bartender was super friendly. He had been to one of our favorite bars in Memphis. He also gave us suggestions about other fun bars in the city, as well as restaurants to try. Once we started talking to him, another patron started talking to us and giving us even more suggestions. My friend didn't know what he wanted and the bartender made him a surprise drink. The bartender is awesome and the other clientele is also friendly. We were only able to come here once, because of our schedule, but I would definitely return. They also have a food menu but I didn't try any.

Ok. So I just found out this bar is called Stirrup, not THE stirrup, but does it really matter? Here's what I know: This bar is THE best gay bar in town. This bar has THE best drinks and THE nicest people in Nashville. When I was new in town, I came to hang here and it had become THE place where I feel most comfortable and welcomed. Thank you to THE owners and staff for making this bar down to earth and warm and welcoming.

I love the Stirrup. I can proudly call it my favorite bar. The staff is top notch and friendly. No pretentious jerks here. Made a ton of good friends and never feel disrespected. Lots of cool events and fundraisers and all you can drink draft beer?!?! That's my kinda party. I strongly recommend this bar. No frills, just fun. Timmy Jimbo, Brody and Jerrylicious will take good care of you!

A great place, but not for those looking for twinks. If you'd gone to the Chute, the owners, Timmy and Mikey, used to work there. No live music, but a good Internet juke box. And a nice outdoor patio. Sometimes there are gatherings on the weekends - the Grizzlies or the Conductors will have beer bashes or fund raisers. Come on down!

The Stirrup is a fun little bar located close to downtown not too far from Trax and the fairgrounds. The Stirrup is good for what it is - and that is a bar - nothing more, nothing less - with friendly people and cheap drinks. There is a great bar stocked with the most popular types of liquor and beer. There are plenty of places to sit both inside and outside on the covered back deck (which has plenty of people on it even in the dead of winter. If you don't like the music - put a couple bucks in the jukebox and make your selections and soon you'll enjoy the music! Every night of the week they have food service until 9pm and on Wednesdays its all you can eat. They do have mostly bar food (Wings, CheeseSticks, Burgers, etc) but occasionally they will have other food as well like - Pork Chops, Meatloaf, etc. The thing I dislike most about this bar is that is is a SMOKING bar. So, you are free to smoke inside the bar. I can typically only go for a short time since I do have asthma and allergies - so, after maybe an hour or so - it really starts to get to me. If they had better ventilation OR if they had the front and back doors open for better airflow (like they do in the summer most of the time) it might be better. But the doors aren't always open and I leave the bar with my clothes and skin smelling like a cigarette most of the time - which is icky. But, overall - its a great place - even with the smoking (which is why I still go from time to time). Occasionally they will have a beer bust in which you can get beers for a buck or two. It's best to check the website ( stirrupnashville.com ) to see what events are happening this month. They also have coupons on the site too for free or reduced food if you decide you want to eat there too. So, If you like cheap drinks, friendly folks and a very relaxed environment - I think you'll like the Stirrup.

A real dive, but a southern gem. We were visiting from out of town and stopped in to check it out. I asked for a whiskey and ginger ale, they don't have ginger ale unfortunately. The bartender was very sweet and we met some really fun people. Had to duck out when it went dead, but we were there pretty late on a weekday night.

This is the newest gay bar in the Nashville area. The owners completely renovated a former dive bar with all brand new furnishings, equipment & everything else. One of the owners, Timmy, is a Nashville tradition in the world of gay bartenders. You will never meet a nicer fellow! The bar is open at noon daily until 3 AM. There's a friendly crowd all the time ... lots of conversation. Big Gene serves up great meals during certain hours most days. Give it a try. You won't regret it.

Nice, clean quiet except for the welcome committee. However, it was Wed night and it was empty. I don't know if I would ever get a chance to go back but it's too far off the area I was staying to return on the weekend night. I thought of going again on a Sat but my phone died (battery out) and my charger was also dead.
