Leaving Slow and Low, my first thought was, "wow, them fellas were right nice." My second and third thoughts were along the lines of, "that food was real good" and "damn, it's time to take a nap." I'm not real sure in which order those last two thoughts were. Hoping to treat the visiting miss to barbecue before she headed back to Philly the following day, I tried to take her by Whitt's. It was closed. Walking farther down Charlotte, I figured we'd just go to Stone House. In its place though, was Slow and Low. I was bummed, thinking our luck had run out, but to our mutual surprise and good fortune, neither of us left bummed at all. I got the pork platter, which came with two sides. The string beans and fried okra were each pleasant and tasty enough to stand on their own as parts of an entree of sides. Next time I go, I'll make a point to get the fried pickles that they offer as a possible side. The main dish, my pork, was wonderfully tender, as well as naked. Then I lathered it in their vinegar sauce, which the staff graciously refilled after I emptied the bottle's initial contents. Suddenly I was seven, ten, thirteen years old again at family pig pickins. The miss got the pork sandwich. It hasn't taken much to convert my tiny Midwesterner into a bonafide pork maven and she devoured as much as an adolescent-sized adult can possibly eat. She described her French fries as limp, a compliment larger than her small stature would imply. Well done, fry man. Five stars for service and food, and if I could, an extra star for the time-traveling experience.

I was in Nashville for a conference last week and we (the group I came with) figured we needed to try a good BBQ place while we were there. There were a few places downtown near where we were staying but we were hoping to find cheaper and maybe more authentic. It started off as kind of a debacle because the first Yelp of this place I looked at gave us the food truck address and not the restaurant address (which is listed on their website). By the time we got there, it was only 30 minutes to closing with 14 in our party and only 2 people on staff. The rest had left moments earlier because they didn't think we would make it due to confusion (I had called earlier.) Despite all of this, the owner was the nicest and most patient person. He was so sweet to us and both he and the other server were excellent and made sure we were taken care of. On top of that, the food was great! You could really taste the smokiness in all of the meats (I recommend the brisket and pork especially). The sauces were great (I liked mixing the hot and the slaw sauce on my sandwich) and the french fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. All in all, go to this place! The people are great and so is the food.

Wow! I mean, wow! The best Texas brisket I have had. Wonderful vinegar sauce also. Topped off by enthusiastic service.

Amazing experience tonight. We walked in 15 minutes before closing and ordered the brisket and they obliged with no problems. Even though they were 86 on a few items like Ribs etc and looked run through the ringer. My wife and I shared an amazing brisket plate (it's best brisket I've ever had puts those trendy places in town to shame). Now my 3 year old was hell bent on proving to everyone how strong he was by opening and closing the door to go inside ALL BY'S HIS DAMN SELF for 20 minutes. Now they are closed at this point. The owner comes out and apologizes (we were in no rush and actually I felt bad we were keeping them late because he really is a great guy from the few times I've met him) that the food will be out soon. And it was. And the brisket green beans okra and cornbread were delicious as always. But something really stood out this time. Despite my son still running crazy around the place at 810-815pm. He offered and then brought us a free cup of Mac n cheese and a cookie for our son (even apologized about the cookie in case it was a bad idea this late at night for a 3 year old). I thanked him dearly and here I am riding home and writing this review while fresh in my memory. I will support this place to the ends of the earth. Gentleman owned. WONDERFUL BBQ.

This is the BEST BBQ in Nashville in my humble opinion. The hot sauce is FIRE so beware if you're a lightweight. The brisket is great, the ribs are killer, dry or wet, and the BBQ pulled pork sandwich is off the hook! When compared to something like Jack's BBQ, Hog Heaven or Edley's, I'll pick Slow and Low anytime because the prices are better, they always have specials, and the BBQ is smoked to perfection.

If you like the chew off the bone ribs, this place is not for you. If you like the sweet, juicy, meat falling off the bone ribs you will love these. While Slow & Low is a little off the beaten path, it is definitely worth the trip. Slaw and Mac and cheese were pretty good as well.

This place is beyond good. You MUST get the brisket! Such a nice vibe in the place and friendly staff.

This place was recommended by a friend, first trip I was pretty happy. Brisket sandwich, baked beans were good. Got wings to take home and they were great. Second trip got brisket plate, since sandwich was good last time, portion kinda small for the price, only 4 slices, maybe 4-5 oz, but good, potato salad bland. Third trip got the large brisket sandwich, but was same size as the regular one I ordered the first trip, tasty, but not impressed with portion, no perceived difference. Potato salad tasteless, still a dud. Skip the slaw, yawn each time. Sauces were excellent each time. Ok now to drink service. A place like this, no servers, one should be able to get their own refills. But have to wait for someone to come to the counter to refill you. I've watched people take several minutes standing at counter for a refill, with only 6 customers inside. Plus cups are small, no large cup option. Hey I want to take a nice large tea with me to go, get some larger cups. It's a bigger deal than you blow off each time I've mentioned it. Service first two trips was good at counter, new hire untrained on customer service and friendliness on the third. Never a smile or any cordial greeting. Train these people when they're dealing with the public, please. I want to love this place, but they need some work, not there yet. I'll check back in a few months.

Parking a bit limited. Get there early for lunch. Great brisket , beans are good also.

Southern hospitality at its best! Delicious smoked pulled chicken, green beans and cornbread. The BBQ sauce (mild) was an added bonus to the smokey meat. My husband had the hot BBQ sauce and loved it along with the Mac and cheese.

I recently visited Slow & Low, enjoying the opportunity to use a Scoutmob with a friend. I ordered two sliders (one pork, one brisket) with a side of mac and cheese. The servings were generous, and I was STUFFED. I wasn't even able to finish the macaroni, which is quite unusual. Meat was well-cooked (GET THE BRISKET), sauces were available for mixing and matching. I liked that the "hot" sauce was actually spicy and blended well with the milder option. Macaroni and cheese was thick and delicious. Customer service was friendly. Even though it was a million degrees outside, the cashier brought our food to the table outside, complete with utensils and wet-naps. I ordered brisket to go, but it was lost in translation, and my husband ate pork at home instead. He didn't mind a bit :) Beers are cheap, and the patio is tidy. Parking is a bit confusing, but there are plenty of options nearby. We'll be back!

OUTSTANDING! Went with the 4 meat. Decided to double up on the brisket based on all the positive reviews. Was not disappointed. Nice smokey flavor(not overpowering), super tender! Ribs were outstanding as well, and the pulled pork completed the trifecta. Sides were yummy as well, especially the green beans! Well worth the trip!

  • Maya C.

Oh my gosh! The corn bread pancakes are to die for!! Beef brisket amaze! Everyone is so super nice and the owner came out and kept seeing how we were getting on, but not in an annoying way ;) you can upgrade your combo to a beer and they'll take 10% off your bill. Of course there's always one thing.. The Mac and cheese not impressed. It was kinda watery. But I'm a Mac snob. Note to owner, add more shredded cheese in it and bake it as a bonus, it'll make all the difference... But I still give it 4 stars! Keep up the good work!

I admit it, this horrible meal was the result of my own laziness, and an unending heat wave didn't exactly inspire me to venture out and forage for food on my own...so yeah, I ordered Slow & Low BBQ mainly because it was on the Dine In restaurant list. I thought I did my homework - dutifully checked Yelp to make sure the place wasn't condemned or something equally horrible. Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to the 3/4-star rating, choosing instead to hope for the best. Don't make this mistake. Through trial & error I've learned (or thought I had) that only those places with solid 5-star reviews should be trusted. That many Yelpers can't be wrong, right? Good advice. Yeah, I wish I'd taken it before spending $50 on a variety of dishes from this place. The ONLY dish that was pretty okay was the fried pickles. The rest -- pulled pork sandwich, brisket, wings, chicken, and turnip greens (oh lord the disgusting turnip greens) -- were over spiced, over salted, over done...just awful. This place would do well in a Yankee city, but this is Nashville baby - home of amazing BBQ - gonna need to step it up, cook. Go somewhere else. **UPDATE** After reading my review, Trey, the owner of Slow & Low, contacted me with an offer of a $50 gift certificate to give his restaurant another shot - saying that the delivery service might have been the reason for the food's poor quality. I'm not sure I agree with that, but I do have to give major props to his eagerness to make a bad situation right! I can only hope that more business owners start taking customer service as seriously as Slow & Low. I might not have loved the food, but I sure do love his customer service!! In fact, you just took this review from 2-stars to 3-stars Trey!

This place is the bomb! The smoked turkey is mouthwatering and the pulled chicken is delish. Best of all...fried jalapeños. Holy moly! The lady working the counter was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Seriously!

Briskets and spareribs were awesome. Pulled pork and chicken are great (as always). I didn't believe what people were saying about briskets before I tried it but now I got it. Very soft and tasty!! Best I ever had. I have tried Martins, Edley's and some other BBQ in Nashville or Brentwood but here is no.1 so far in terms of the taste and comfort and prices. They have a good patio ( about 6,7 tables) which is great to enjoy beer. 3sauces: I loved sweet sauce. Not as crowded as other fancy BBQ restaurants. The owner is super nice for customers which I don't usually see in the restaurants. I love this place. Will come soon. (The only thing they are missing is draft beer. I need this for BBQ. BUT can beer $2.5-$3 is not a bad price).

Tried this place once during lunch and wasn't too impressed by it. The ribs weren't flavorful at all and the greens needed salt. I went here one night for dinner and it was a lot better. Both times, the cashier/server was very attentive and courteous. We had the four meats (double ribs, brisket and chicken), 2 side (cole slaw, potato salad) and a drink for $16.99. Not bad for dinner for two. I enjoyed everything and since it's so close to home, it's our new go-to bbq place.

Yelp did not let us down! Excellent pulled pork plate, tasty, crisp slaw, yummy onion rings & okra. Really liked the cornbread pancake as well. Made me want to go home and experiment with some variations. Service was quick and friendly, and (bonus) it's really close to I-40 for us Yankees passing through. Hope to return!

I recently worked with Slow & Low on an upcoming wedding that is here at Travellers Rest in Nashville, TN. They are the caterer for the wedding. The owner was so helpful and nice to work with. I really appreciated it!

Used yelp to find this great BBQ spot. People there couldn't have been nicer and the food was outstanding. Brisket was juicy and tender. Ribs were meaty and well seasoned. UNlike a lot of BBQ places there sides were great. The coleslaw and mac & cheese were the stand outs for me.

    (5)
  • Ryan T.

The pulled pork sandwich was a generous portion of juicy deliciousness and the mac 'n cheese was alright. And you can't beat a $2.50 PBR to wash it down. We are looking forward to enjoying the deck this summer!

  • Christine J.

I really enjoyed eating here. Its definitely casual, you order at the register and then they bring your food. I had the pulled pork sandwich and onion rings. The sandwich had a generous amount of meat and the onion rings were crispy and well seasoned. I really liked the fact that there was a mix of soft inside meat and chewy outside meat :) Everyone working was friendly. Absolutely would go again.

"Don't Call It Slow & Low For Nothing!" It may be "Slow and Low" to cook, though it's "Quick and Speedy" to serve! Time and time again, I've had the drool drenching, mouth watering yummy "nom nom" flavoring Brisket Sandwich. The ribs--ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! Talk about fall off the bone dripping good! Each time I've had either .. Each time it gets better and better! Every visit is always a taste budding experience! You can't go wrong with the brisket or the fall off the bone, melt in your mouth ribs! The sides! Oh! There is not a single side order that's disappointing! Baked beans got the perfect spicy kick to it. The cole slaw is amazingly tangy sweet, which goes well as an added topping to the brisket sandwich. Can't ever go wrong with the fried okra! The price is remarkable for what you are getting! Your taste buds will fall in love. There is absolutely no other place I would go for BBQ! Nothing compares! So, if you are looking for a good BBQ place, this is one pit stop you don't want to miss!

I'm not a bona fide 'foodie'. And let me say that BBQ is almost impossible to compare....except just plain bad and just plain good! And all BBQ i not the same style. All that said, THIS food ROCKS! I totally agree on the brisket....yowsah! I choose these folks over the good-ol-boy joints in a heartbeat. It's not the cheapest food in town......but suck it up and EAT HERE! You won't be sorry.....but you WILL be back.

Wow, has this place gone downhill rapidly. From the apparent change in personnel, I'm guessing it's been sold (again... first from Stonehouse Q to the Slow and Low food truck guys to now this new management). I ordered the brisket on a recommendation from a neighborhood listserv - big mistake. The brisket was terrible - poor quality, incredibly fatty, tasteless - like canned food. The sides were equally bad. They were also completely disorganized and had little idea how to get the food out in an orderly fashion from cashier to kitchen to table. It's really unfortunate because the Stonehouse Q guys were actually pretty good, and their smoked chicken was phenomenal. The Slow and Low food truck guys were also decent, but it's been a rapid decline from owner to owner to owner. The hidden location and build-out are just really hard to overcome, and it doesn't help if no one ever finds out about your eatery, whether through marketing or foot traffic or word of mouth. Our experience was somewhat ironic considering while we were eating they had a reality TV show on that featured a restaurant management scenario.

We eat here all the time as it's a close walk for us. But even if it wasn't- best BBQ and friendly staff!! Love!!

  • Minx R.

I understand you've gotta nip back to the walk-in every now and again to get high, but I've tried to stop in on three occasions, during posted business hours, and found the doors locked. Really sucks as this place is less than a mile from my house and I was here once a week before it changed hands. The one time I managed to eat here the food wasn't bad.

I went to this for the first time and loved it!! As I guy who knows how to use a smoker, I have three of them, I loved this place. I had the sliders just so I could get a small sample of three of their meats. I had pork, brisket, and pulled chicken with a couple of wings too. I ordered it to go. It was smelling so tasty in the car I was anxious to get home. Once home I dug in and only regret I had was I didn't order more. The wings were smoked, then flash fried and were AWESOME. Best wings in Nashville, along with the brisket, chicken, and pork. It all had just the right amount of smoke, not too smokey as other restaurants.

Pretty close to being the best BBQ in Nashville. Everything is delicious. They never disappoint. Don't order through grub hub though, that threw them for a loop.

  • Louisa G.

i've tried every BBQ place in town and this place is HANDS DOWN the best. meat that falls off the bone, perfect rub, and really good sauce. we get the ribs and the brisket and it is so yummy! go there now!

Picked up my whole Thanksgiving smoked turkey today for our big meal. It was great and really nice to be able to pick it up warm and ready to serve. My 13 year old son really loved it.

  • Dee E.

Eh. I've had better. I wanted to give it a try for kicks and giggles, and I'm just not feeling it. Lay off the salt on the cornbread, please!

    (2)
  • Be G.

Wow, they served some of the best ribs I've ever had. And the smoked wings were outstanding. We loved both their mild and hot sauces. The half rack plus a couple sides is enough for 2 people, easily. The misfires? The coleslaw was boring - nothing sweet or spicy about it. I was disappointed, given the quality of the meat. I ended up adding a little of the spicy BBQ sauce to it, and that improved it greatly. And the "cornbread" was a johnny cake that was a little tough, but again, improved with some sauce. We'll be returning to try the brisket and pulled pork.

    (4)
  • Patrick M.

Trey and Burke are BBQ masters! They serve generous portions and the pulled pork sandwich is hickory smoked to perfection. On my second visit, I tried the beef brisket. A lot of Nashville BBQ joints serve beef brisket along with their pulled pork and chicken but very few do it right. You can't fake good brisket and the smoke ring and bark on Slow & Low's beef brisket highlight the skill and technique of the Slow & Low pitmasters. Thanks for bringing the best brisket and pulled pork in town to Sylvan Park!

  • Vanessa B.

Quite a delicious little joint. I got the Texas beef brisket and it was delicious. However it was super oily. But on the bright side it included a lot of food!

  • Kristin S.

I will start with a compliment. The pulled chicken is excellent. I highly recommend. I have been to this restaurant a few times. The other times were fine and the food was good. Tonight, however, was such a horrendous experience that I felt compelled to write a review. I wanted to get something easy for dinner after work. When I left work I called in an order. A girl answered the phone and I told her I wanted to place an order for pick up . Silence. I thought " well I guess that's my signal to place my order". I told her what I wanted and she said back my order ( in a very short, put out kind of way). She left an item out so I said " and also a pound of chicken". She said " ok" and then again .....silence . I said " ok well I'll be there in about ten mins" and she literally just HUNG UP without saying goodbye or thank you or anything that would indicate normal communication during any kind of phone call never mind a professional one between an establishment and its customer. So here's where the story gets "good". When I walk in the store, there are no customers. There is however, a girl named Jasmine (her name was written on her cup) sitting at a table eating something with her hands. When she sees me walk in, she proceeds to get up and LICKS EVERY ONE OF HER FINGERS, walks to the register and says " are you the one who just called?" I said " yes". She tells me my bill and I had to watch her take my credit card with the SAME FINGERS SHE JUST LICKED!!! She also handed me my order with the same disgusting hands. I was shocked. I will never go back. It's a shame because this place is for sure an underdog and I spoke on the phone before about catering with who I'm assuming was the owner considering how nice and helpful he was. This was just beyond worth having to worry about experiencing again.

Saw this place while stuck in traffic yesterday we tried it today. Ordered pork, buns, beans and slaw and okra to go. Generous amounts and the food was wonderful. The spicy BBQ sauce amazing and the milder also good. This will be a go to spot when we are in town visiting our daughter.

Very pleasant atmosphere, best barbecue I have had in months. Terrific smokey flavor on the pulled pork and chicken. Slo & Lo is small local place with very limited parking, so park on the street and walk a little, you will be glad you did.

Absolutely by far the BEST Pulled pork I've ever had! I have had plenty of pulled pork from everywhere, but this place beats them all!! Talk about melting in your mouth! My family & I were visiting Nashville for the weekend & found this place by mistake. As far as I'm concerned, there was NO mistake! The food was fantastic, the staff & the owner where GREAT! I will be back again! :)

Horrible service. We pulled up at 7:55 and tried to find parking. The OPEN light was on. We were with a 6 month old so getting out of the car took a few minutes. Went to the door at 8:06 and it was locked. There were people inside and they just looked at us. Didn't even have the courtesy to come outside and say "Sorry, we are closed." Ended up going to Anatolia Turkish restaurant which had EXCELLENT service and food. Go there instead!!!

Got the slow and low pulled pork plate with green beans and mac n cheese. Mac n cheese was amazingly creamy, pulled pork was perfect and not too smoky, and the green beans were sweet. Friend got the brisket and thought it was delicious- very tender and juicy. Mild BBQ sauce was great! Guys running it were super friendly and let us order and eat in even though they were near closing time. Will come back again if we are ever back in the area. They were also super helpful answering all of my food allergy-related questions (I'm allergic to tree nuts/peanuts).

I enjoyed lunch at Slow and Low again today with a good friend. This time I had the sliders and ordered one each of pork, chicken and brisket. I also had a side of mac and cheese which was simply perfect! I decided that Slow and Low deserves more than the three stars I had originally given them. Oh, you must try the pecan pie as well - it's addictive!

Finally made it to Slow & Low the other day. This place rocks! Trey, one of the owners, is obviously passionate about what he is doing and it shows in the food! The pork is delicious, but my the best thing I tried was the brisket - some of the best I've ever tasted. Budget time for a nap, because you will probably be in a food coma for a couple of hours.

Smoked sausage and pulled pork are my preferred meats at Slow & Low BBQ Bistro. Slow hickory smoked chicken and beef brisket are there too of course, as a sandwich or on a plate with sides. Although the owners are relatively greenhorns in the que business, their meat has that certain zap I like when I lick into it. Peeps on the spicy side of the river come here since the original S&L takeout spot in east Nashville moved west. The west Nashville location is a step up and offers a fair amount of room inside as well as additional seating on the wood deck. The wall posters are precious.

Friendly staff, excellent food with large servings. A great idea is that drinks come with the dinners. The owner even explained how they make the BBQ and homemade sauces. Will be back. A suggestion would be to add a children's menu.

Just passing thru Nashville on a Sunday. This was open and had good reviews so we stopped. Best brisket I've ever had. Mac & cheese was amazing. Pulled pork was ok. I wasn't a big fan of the green beans or baked beans. Great service. Next time we travel through the area we will stop here again!

I found this place about a mile away from a Best Western that my wife and I stayed at while visiting my daughter, Katie who is currently living in Nashville, Tennessee. I came across this place about 6 months ago. They were only open about several weeks at the time and the owner served us. I believe his name was Trey. I was amazed how passionate he was about his food and it reflects in what he serves. The ribs and his barbecue sauce were the best I ever had in my life. The smoke ring was perfect and the sauce is out of this world. I was in Nashville last week and literally on the day I was leaving with all my items packed for a 15 hour drive back home (Upstate NY) I swung by and bought six bottles of his barbecue sauce. This sauce has the perfect combination of barbecue, sweetness, and heat. Blows away Sweet Bay Rays ( what I always cook with). I was bummed that I did not have time to eat there again. This place may be small and quaint. However, his ribs and sauce are outstanding. Definitely worth a visit. I wish the owners continued success.

Was in Nashville for business this week, and I stopped in yesterday to grab lunch! The waitress told me that this place used to be called Stone House Q. I thought their pulled pork sandwich was really good, and I loved the baked beans. Apparently they have good briskets as well.

OMG AMAZING We stopped in with our friend and 2 kids over 4th of July weekend. We were blown away! The menu was easy to read, food was prepared quickly, and it tasted DELICIOUS! Very unique and original flavor, not your run of the mill bbq joint. There was live music, which created an awesome and laid back environment. The staff was so attentive, when our daughter spilled her drink, we grabbed paper towels to clean it up, but they insisted we let them clear up the spill. They came by often to see if we needed refills or anything else. You can really tell how passionate the owners are about their business... their excitement is contagious! They told us about how they got their start and how they're working towards being successful, and asked if we had any tips or ways they could improve... I couldn't think of a single thing they could do better! If only we lived in TN, we would come here ALL the time!!! Absolutely fantastic restaurant and honestly if you visit Nashville and don't come here, you're doing yourself a disservice!! We bought 2 bottles of their bbq sauce so we could take the flavor back to DC with us and fondly remember our trip to TN whenever we make bbq on the backyard grill!

The smoked pulled chicken sandwich was outstanding. I often find BBQ chicken can be bland unless it is covered in sauce, but this had great flavor on its own and on a fantastic bun. Also tried a smoked brisket slider that I can still taste. Very good sauces. Fries were okay...not great. Probably go with a different side next time. Agree with other comments about the staff...super friendly.

Stopped in here for Nashville BBQ with a friend on our way to Florida and it was delicious! My friend ordered the pork plate and it looked amazing- my beef brisket sandwich was absolutely to die for. Nice and juicy and the sauce was tangy but not too much of a bite. If I ever have a reason to head back to Nashville, I will definitely come back!

Great food, nice employees, atrocious management! Be prepared for frustration and long waits. We simply order here occasionally for convenience of location. Tonight we called in a pickup order by phone and were told it'd be "5-10 minutes". By the time we received our order, it took a total of 45 minutes from the time we called in. If you continuously have only 2 workers and slammed with customers, it may be beneficial to hire more staff. It's like this every time. Your not just short staffed, you're not managing your business well by keeping enough employees on staff.

This is one of my favorite bbq places. In addition to the good bbq they have really good fried pickles. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. Parking is kind of limited.

I had never been here after driving past it a few years. Tucked away it's easy to miss. Parking lot is small so be prepared to park on the street and walk. You'll need the exercise after eating this awesome food. I went with the good ole fashioned pulled pork plate and two sides of baked beans and turnip greens. As I was deciding the staff member Trey mentioned they got a new frog legs recipe and said he'd cut me a deal for half a plate. Having never had frog legs before I figured what the hell lets live a little and got the half. Sweet tea wasn't very sweet, my bias is that I love tea that's so sweet it makes me get cavities with every sip. They also have three sauces: a mild, a spicy, and a vinegar. The vinegar is the best I have had in TN. Being a eastern NC vinegar person, this is wonderful to know that a little taste of home is down the road. Pork was delicious and moist, not overcooked like other places I have had here in Nashville. Beans were good and greens were great. Frog legs were awesome, I highly recommend them. Trey came up and talked to me and see how I was doing and chatted me up for a bit. Nice guy and that kind of customer service really sets them apart from the rest. Highly recommend and will be back!

Cute place, average food. I tried the pulled pork and the brisket. Both were good but not great. I do appreciate that the meat was NOT overly dry-- but I felt the need to use the BBQ sauce for additional flavor and not just a complimentary addition. I'm all about the sides and was disappointed. The Mac and cheese was below average. The greens had no taste at all-- I was surprisingly disappointed here because usually greens are greens ya know? I did enjoy the baked beans and the fries. Also the service was great. They were super friendly.

BBQ is polarizing. One man's favorite is another man's.....NOT favorite. Hubby and I ended up here tonight because we struck out with our first two places we tried. We split the four meat sampler (the gal at the counter said she recommends it for men. She doesn't recommend anything for women because "you never know". That was cute). Ordered green beans, turnip greens and baked beans as sides. We didn't like any of the sides. Bland, very bland and weird tasting in that order. The sauces weren't any better. It wasn't great. I could go on but what's the point?

I got a small order of smoked hot wings. The wings are smoked and then flash fried. They are traditional bar wings and really tasty! They were not actually hot though a little more heat would have been nice.

We were in the area around lunchtime, so I opened up Yelp and saw this place is almost a 5 star rated place. Must be GREAT, right? Well... We arrived on a Saturday, a little before noon. The employees were out front on the porch smoking. They looked at us as we pulled up & then realized we were customers and extinguished their smokes & ran inside. We were the first consumers of the day. The woman who took our order was very friendly. She asked if we had been before & we told her this was our first time. She ran around to the front of the counter & explained all the different parts of the menu & what were her favorites. On her suggestion, I ordered the Walkin' Texas Ranger sandwich combo with one side for $10.99. I ordered the corn casserole as my side. The restaurant is located in a smallish building. The building is built up off the ground, almost like its on stilts with a deck that wraps around 2 sides of the building. The drinks are self serve & are coke products. They also have different types of BBQ sauce on the counter. My favorite is the "hot". If you like hot stuff, you won't find the hot too hot though. It didn't take but about 5 minutes or so for us to get our food. The Walkin' Texas Ranger is "a hungry man's portion of tender slow smoked brisket served on a kaiser bun and topped with pickles." The side was called a corn casserole, & it tasted to me like corn with some jalapeño cheese melted in. It was good, I didn't think it was amazing. I was able to try some of the French fries & they're were great. I wished I'd ordered the French fries. Onto the sandwich. The bun says its a kaiser roll, but it's more of a hamburger roll with sesame seed bun. I wished it was a little more dense & didn't squish so much. The brisket was okay. It was room temperature & most of it was a little dry to me. There were some pieces that weren't dry, but they had fat that needed a little more cooking because it was a little jelly and chewy. I pulled some of the fat off & poured on the hot sauce onto the sandwich and I enjoyed the sandwich. Overall I thought that the staff were very friendly. I loved the fries & enjoyed the hot sauce they have available. I was let down a little with the sandwich & corn casserole. I didn't think it warranted the 11 dollar price tag & I didn't see it being a 5 star sandwich like many other Yelpers have stated the BBQ is.

Food is amazing! I would recommend anyone who likes pork! And barbeque! All the employees were pushing and friendly. It's a casual little place. It's delicious!

Go for the ribs! Pulled pork was good. It was hard to eat around the fat on the brisket....but it was tasty. The sausage was too heavily seasoned and tasted like it had breakfast sausage mixed in. The ribs... A-MAZ-ING!!!!!! Fall off the one tender and great smoked flavor in every bite. Go for the RIBS!!!!! Service was great and attentive as well.

Really good authentic BBQ, brisket was tender & Ribs were just right. I've been to a few BBQ places with rave reviews in Nashville & so far this is a must do again place. I'm surprised there isn't more of a following for this place.

This is by far the best bbq I have ever had. The ribs and brisket were fantastic. I also had some wings and sausage which were also very good. The ribs don't need any sauce, but the sauces are great also. I really enjoyed the hot bbq sauce. The portions are generous and the service is prompt and polite. I had the fried okra and Mac and cheese sides. The okra was awesome and the Mac and cheese is simple but delicious. I hate when people try to fancy up Mac and cheese. This is just the authentic delicious southern bbq experience I was looking for here in TN. If you have the chance to come here, you should not pass it up.

BEST barbeque I have had in a very long time! The greens and onion rings were divine. There was a nice, tangy, smoke flavor to the meat and the choice of sauces was great. The place was clean and staff extremely friendly! Good sized portions ....I will be back!

Perfect. Perfect bbq. They make their own sauces and we had to try them all!!! We got the brisket and the pulled pork dinners with sides of baked beans coleslaw Mac and cheese and potato salad. All really good but the potato salad was the best. The cornbread is a pancake and unusually tasty. We hope we get back here before we leave Nashville!!

We ordered a plate of pulled pork and buns from Slow & Low for a church group and it was GREAT. I mean, this was the best pulled pork I've ever hard, hands down. I didn't think I even really liked pulled pork and I was going for thirds and fourths! :) Burke coordinates their catering orders and was very easy to get in touch with. Everything went smoothly. I will absolutely be ordering from them again -- GREAT FOR GROUPS!

Cool little joint. Tiny parking lot - think has 5 or 6 spaces max. Great deck on front if the weather is good for dining. Smelled the smoke when we opened the door, always a good sign. I ordered the 4 meat platter and split it with my son. We got double pulled pork, brisket and ribs, sides of fries and slaw. Platter included a corn pancake. The pulled pork had a nice smokey flavor and we had a good bit of the outer bark. Tried it with their three sauces; a vinegar base, and two Kansas City style sauces. All were good. I'd rate it a 7 out of 9. The ribs had a good smoke and had just the right amount of sauce on top. They were done well. Only pet peeve was they didn't remove the silver skin before cooking. I'd give these an 8 out of 9. The brisket was not good. I'd have to rate a 5. It had a fat layer and was way overdone. Slaw had a real good kick to it. Lots of people gave the cornbread pancakes a great review but they were a bit too savory and a bit dry for me. I prefer sweet cornbread. My wife got a couple of chicken thighs with her plate and I'd give them a 9. Fried pickles were really good, and so was the sweet tea. Worth a trip if you're in the area. And if you're a fan of Hatch Prints they have a nice collection on the walls.

The last time I ate here I added the following tip: "Pretty pricey for some BBQ. The food is good and it fulfilled my craving, but I doubt I'll be back any time soon." That was in May of 2013. I was totally right about the timeline of my return, which is sad given that I live pretty much right around the corner from here and crave BBQ often. I went in there tonight with no expectations, having not really remembered what my experience with the food was like. I did remember the prices though, but I wanted to stay close to home and needed some 'cue. I opted for the pork plate based on the fact they have a giant pig on their sign and Tennessee BBQ seems more pork based anyways. The guy behind the counter (who I believe may have been an owner) was super friendly and provided some excellent customer service! He brought out some white sauce they'd been working on (good stuff) and went to the self serve counter and grabbed a few various cups of sauce for me without me asking anything. My food came out just a few minutes later. I doubled up on the fries after reading some reviews here that really raved about them. They were pretty bad. Maybe they were slightly undercooked and over seasoned, but I didn't enjoy them at all. It's rare to find a fry I won't eat, but I really had to rely on pure hunger to get through this pile. The pork was OK. It was pretty dry and didn't really have much going on for it taste wise on its own. It paired fairly well with that white sauce, but that was mostly the sauce doing the walking there. The mild sauce was decent, but nothing too special. Overall, I'd suggest saving a buck or two and heading on down the road a bit to get better pork with better sauces and sides. I won't completely write Slow & Low off until I try the brisket and ribs, but avoiding the pork and fries for sure. 5 star service with maaaaaybe 2 star food.

I'm a meat eater, and love it, though I could - not eat meat - for awhile, and crave it all of a sudden. This is what happened in Nashville, and was really jonesin' for some good ribs. Came here based on Yelp reviews alone. Being a butcher's son and an amateur cook, I was looking forward to seeing what they would to with 'em and how they'd turn out. They're in a pretty good location, literally right around the corner from 70, so this makes it fairly accessible. Note that parking didn't seem that great at only a handful of spaces. If there was more out-back it wasn't intuitive for me to notice. Typical quick food place with a good size dining room, and patio. They actually keep the place clean, which is something to be said in a day and age that seems to care less about the details. You order at the cashier, and tonight the guy and girl were kinda nice and funny, like they cared about what they did. All I wanted were ribs and none of the sides, cuz I did't want my gut to be bombed, so I went with the half slab of baby back, and also a side of deep-fried jalapenos (w/ranch). I had a seat, and there are a coupla TVs going. It only took about 10 min before they bring me my food, and here is the skinny - 1. The ribs were the most moist/tender/soft that I have ever tasted, and were literally falling off the bone. 2. With all due respect, it's the dry rub that I didn't particular care for. It was really peppery, yet not the chile-kind-of-pepper, but the ribs were peppery in a blackened pepper-kind-of-way, and though they probably blackened the pepper as part of the process, it just wasn't what I personally preferred. 3. Now, given the dry rub, this still could have worked if the sauce had been tangier in a sweet kind of way, but unfortunately, the BBQ sauce is more of a VINEGAR-base, which didn't really balance well with the pepper dry rub (in my humble opinion). 4. Then, there were the jalapenos, which, when I ordered 'em, I assumed might be fresh ones, though unfortunately, they were the sliced/canned/vinegary ones, which further-amplified the competing taste of the ribs. Actually, I started using the ranch as the dipping sauce for the ribs, which complemented each other quite well. So, all in all, they do really well in most ways, but for my own personal food preference, miss the mark in a coupla ways - hence the 3-star rating.

That's right 5 stars. Slow & Low is the right name. My wife ordered the brisket and wouldn't share! (I got a little.) I had the pulled pork and both of us were very happy. Baked beans was terrific and the corn bread! This is real southern-style corn bread made in a frying pan NOT an oven.Careful with HOT source because it is. The meat was so moist we didn't need any sauce at all. Oh yes, loved the home style coleslaw. Dress down and go to this place if you are lucky enough to be close. I'd say it is well with a 30 minute drive, so go. For the kids it has a Rocking Pig !

Glad I finally went here. Really good quality BBQ. I got the pork platter with beans and greens. The pork was kind of perfectly juicy. Had a great taste to it as well. The beans weren't mind blowing but still good. Same goes for the greens. But both of the sides felt like you were getting a really tasty side. Maybe the best part of the meal is the little corn cake they give you. First bite of that thing I was hooked. Also the price isn't crazy. I feel like you can spend high prices on BBQ. While this is not the cheapest place it did feel like I was getting my money's worth. The platter that I got came with a drink. That seems out of the ordinary but what I nice surprise when I checked out and she handed me a cup to get a drink. My only downside about this place is the sauces. The vinegar sauce is good but I don't always want that on my BBQ. The mustard sauce was my favorite. Their regular BBQ sauces were very interesting tasting to me. Like nothing I had before. Didn't love them.

Excellent BBQ joint in Nashville! Awesome food. Friendliest service, very chill atmosphere. My favorite, so far, is the pulled pork sandwich- very tasty! The fried corn bites are very good too. Within walking distance of the famous "Bobby's Dairy Dip"- grab a great dinner at "Low & Slow" and then stroll down the street for ice cream at Bobby's.

It was so good!!!!! The family and I had pulled chicken, pulled pork, ribs, brisket, fried okra, fried, jalapenos, and fried pickles. Everything were great, so I'm only gonna highlight the brisket and fried pickles. The brisket was so tender and moist that I think I actually screamed when I took my first bite. It was out of this world good. It's a MUST. The fried pickles were SO SALTY that I couldn't eat it alone. It had to be accompanied by something tasteless like bread or the meat with no sauce. I would probably skip the pickle chips next time, but everything else would be on my "yes please" list. The food was so rich that I couldn't eat dinner that night or even breakfast the next day, but it was worth it.

A decent lunch stop. I've only been here the once, so I don't feel like I can be too critical. Not exactly MEH, but I haven't found myself tripping over anything to get back. Decent, but a bit small, parking lot as well as a good dining area. If you are looking for some nearby BBQ, give it a shot.

Its really good, but its not a "traditional BBQ". I like going here from time to time for ribs. As for the menu, it is big and much more than the traditional offering. Some might find it a bit too hip at times. Still, the food is pretty good and the staff are super nice. The location is a odd and there is very little parking.

fyi: slow and low not new bedroom method for neanderthal. instead, it some of best bbq neanderthal have in very long time! was make very long drive from dallas to baltimore, and nashville right in middle. find slow and low on yelp and decide to give try. walk in maybe one or two hour before closing on Sunday night, and place complete empty except one woman and one man who both worker at there. order brisket value special on chalkboard. sidenote: when bbq have menu on chalkboard, usually good sign! also order small order of wing. neanderthal ask how many come, woman say three. then man correct her and say it actually two, not three. but when serve neanderthal, they give three still. always hear about southern hospital, but slow and low show it first hand! brisket taste so many great. want more. mouth water. try all bbq sauces. all good. slow and low make some of best wing neanderthal ever taste. ask how make it. man say cook in smoker, then flash fry. taste even better than when cave neighbor smoke pterodactyl wing over open lava back at cave scout camp! Ha ha! drive from dallas to baltimore accrostimately 20 hour long. slow and low make drive not so bad. to thank you from bottom of neanderthal stone age heart.

On drive from TX to NY we stopped here for lunch. Not too busy for a summertime lunch but steady stream of locals indicated it was a favored spot. We had pulled chicken and pulled pork plates. Both were good but they upped their game on the pork...it was not too fatty, very smokey. Perfect. The sides: slaw is very good--shredded cabbage with sweet/tart creamy dressing with lots of celery seeds; traditional baked beans--good but i have had better; white beans--these were the best of the sides. White kidneys cooked until tender without being mushy and tasting faintly of very smokey bacon (if it were in New Orleans i would have said tasso). Each plate is served with a flat griddle-toasted corn muffin which tasted much better than i anticipated. This is worth the several block drive off I-40 if you pass this way. The staff are extremely friendly and polite and service is excellent. We will stop here again--I want to try the smoked sausage...it looked great.

Best brisket around. Moist, tender flavorful. U can use their multitude of homemade sauce but the brisket plain is perfect on its own. The okra is the best fried okra I have ever had. It is actually crispy crunchy and the okra is so fresh and cooked to perfect doneness. Not mushy. Not greasy. Not under cooked. Just the right texture and flavor. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They actually care about the food as much as the people they serve. They know their regulars and treat everyone like honored guests. It was our first time and we plan to be regulars.
