This is the perfect example of how simple some things should be. When I go into a doughnut shop I expect a lot from just a few things- great, fresh doughnuts, serviceable coffee, and a lack of judgement. Shipleys gets all of these right and I love it. Their cake doughnuts are second to none and should be tasted by any lover of fried morning cake. Their Apple fritters are also crunchy and satisfying. A friendly, non judgmental face stuffs these and other mouth watering treats into a box and charges me a criminally small amount for a dozen fresh shame-holes. The atmosphere is small town, no frills, and just right; it's the exact opposite of a Dunkin Donuts where those places feel like a Starbucks with diabetes. Shipley dispenses with formality, keeps the old school donut shop, and passes the savings on to me. They're open at five and stay open until they have no more doughnuts to sell. I would image that could be at 5:30. Better get there early.

The donuts were made fresh and smelled amazing! My only gripes were the sweetness of the donuts and the taste of the creme filled ones. I had a headache nearly the entire day from one donut because of its sweetness. As for the creme ones, there was a funky taste to them that tasted metallic. I won't be buying those again.

The donuts are always fresh and delicious, and the staff is always so friendly. Service is always quick, but get here early if you want certain donuts, because they run out pretty quickly!

Great Doughnuts, I mean these things are so freaking good I stopped here every morning to pickup a dozen for the family while visiting Nashville. They reminded me of Village Donuts in Hazlehurst GA. You must come here and try but I do want you to know that unlike other donuts these will not hold over night and are uneatable the next day, so do eat 'em all!!!

We just got back from Shipley's. The donuts are great. However, in California, if it says it is 6.99 a dozen for mixed donuts, then that's what it is. Here it said 5.99 dz glazed and 6.99 dz for cakes and filled. So I ordered a dozen including some bars and twists. The total came to 9.58. When I asked why, I was told that long donuts count as two. Really??

The first time I went there I ordered a muffin and a coffee. The coffee tasted like yesterday's coffee and the muffin was nasty!!! I decided to give them another chance so I ordered a donut, no coffee thou. It was ok.

I like doughnuts that are sweet and light so this place was perfect for me. I'm not sure if one can make a glazed doughnut or a cinnamon bear claw that's much better. They also do a great job with chocolate cake doughnuts -- not too dense, definitely not greasy, and with sweet chocolate icing. Friendly staff and decent prices.

Another gem we found on our recent vacation! Shipley Donuts was one of my favorites as a kid in Baton Rouge. I was so excited to get to share one of my favorite childhood places with my family! The donuts were very it as great as the ones we had as a kid! Light, fluffy little donut holes, amazing chocolate covered donuts and all at a very reasonable price. There is nothing better than getting a dozen hot donut holes for LESS than $2!!! Nashville you are so lucky to have this little hole in the wall shop! If you have not enjoyed one of their tasty treats yet, shame on you! These are too good to pass up!

Great service and selection. The custard donuts aren't too sweet and they offer stuffed croissants, too. They have pretty much everything from cake donuts and donut holes to items like cinnamon rolls and pigs in a blanket.

Love this place i came across it the other day. I brought my 2 daughters in to have a few donuts for breakfast. They are very good you can tell they are homemade. The customer service is excellent very nice people. The prices are reasonable. Will be returning to try everything they have!!

Holy cow! I love donuts and I love trying new places when out of town. These donuts just moved to the top of our favorites list. The insides were light and fluffy with the outsides being cooked to a golden crisp perfection. Even my husband commented on that! We are both glad we live 3 hours from here....we would be huge! Yummy yummy to my tummy!!!!

I was excited to try Shipley's because I have heard such wonderful things about it. I will have to say I am disappointed. The donuts were okay but they lacked the donut quality you can find at other shops. The glazed didn't seem like they were glazed at all and the ones with frosting on them might have been good but I will never know since they stacked them in bags and they now no longer have frosting. I've never been to a donut shop that packed a dozen donuts in bags. Almost all of the donuts were ruined or completely fused to the donut above them. The price is average I guess. I spent $12 on a dozen and a half. The counter attendants didn't seem to speak much to any English and looked utterly confused while I was ordering. Overall I am disappointed in my experience and don't think I will be returning.

Not only did I thoroughly enjoy my donuts (a solid hot glazed - lighter and more subtle than Krispy Kreme, my guilty favorite), I had an, unexpectedly, very good customer experience as well. If you're in the neighborhood, stop and treat yourself.

Always sweet people working with great customer service, The kolaches are better than the places in town that claim to specialize in it

Shipley donuts are what dreams are made off. Sweet, yummy, soft and so fantastic. Always fresh and wonderful coffee. I also love how nice the people that work there. I think it is a family business. My only complaint is they aren't open now!!!

Get here early when there fresh and hot!! I like them better than the big box name. The apple fritters are the best especially when there just out of the grease!!! Yummmmm

Yumm nothing beats shipleys donuts! Soooo delish! But yes the other comments are right get here early cuz they sell out of the hot fresh original glazed quick! I got over here at 9:15am and they were sold out but that's ok I like the donut holes just as well. The staff is always very nice also!

I love doughnuts, and these are some of the best! Served warm and fresh, no place can beat Shipley! We are now Saturday morning regulars. I don't go super early, and they have always had plenty of a selection.

I've never actually stepped inside this Shipley's, but one of our managers will bring a dozen to work (like today) when she's feeling like donuts. These are the real deal! Old fashioned donuts with just the right amount of sugar on top - it's never as sickening as the ones from Krispy Kreme.
