This is my favorite honky tonk on Broadway. The band is great. They sing all the old favs, as well as the new hits. You'll hear everything from Cash to Shania, Willie to Sara Evans, Garth Brooks to Dierks Bentley, and even Elvis thrown in. Just great, fun music. I dare you to go and see if you can stay seated!! The place is really big, and usually not overcrowded. It's full of people and a fun time, but you won't be elbow to elbow and have people spilling drinks on you. See my review on the Stage. Anyway, the service is great and it's not overly expensive. Promise you'll be back for more. They have yummy bar food. I've always eaten there late night, so the food usually tastes good at that point. But, the burgers, chicken fingers, and fries hit the spot after a night of kicking up your heals.

Not as well known as the Stage, in fact I had never heard of it when I walked by the first time. The nice thing about places that are not well known, or places like this that don't look very inviting from the outside, is that they tend to be less crowded inside. Second Fiddle isn't a lace you will take your friend to make them really impressed by Nashville, but they will likely look back and realize that was one of the more enjoyable places they went that night.

This was a real nice place from what I remember. I took my boycott off whiskey for this trip and ended up not really knowing what was going on by the time I got here. A girl here tried telling me that Nashville was a more progressive city than Ann Arbor (Don't know why I was arguing) and I countered that there are a lot of potheads up there in Michigan and it is now legalized for medicinal use. She thought I was a loser but I don't really give a rat's ass. The band was good. The girls were pretty. I had a good time.

Like many others who have written reviews, Second Fiddle is my favorite honky tonk bar in Nashville. I always pay a visit to the Fiddle when I'm in Nashville. For those visitng Music City USA for CMA Fest each June, the Second Fiddle is a perfect place to cool off and enjoy a cold one during your trek up and down Broadway. My favorite time of day to visit the Second Fiddle is during the early to mid-afternoon when it's not as crowded and you can easily find a seat at the bar. The staff has always been very friendly and the live bands are excellent. The walls are decorated with memorabilia from the Golden Age of country music (Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, etc.). You can't go wrong in choosing the Second Fiddle.

Great place! If you're visiting Nashville and looking for a fun place to go- You gotta check this place out!

Another fine honky tonk place in downtown Nashville to watch a country band and have a beer and move on.

  • Elvira G.

Friday early evening so take this for what it's worth: Just had one drink cuz the band, although good wasn't my idea of solid entertainment. Place was clean though and cool, but again, the night hadn't really begun!

Hands down my favorite place in Nashville. I've visited Nashville numerous times and I'm always blown away by the live music at Second Fiddle. The bouncers are friendly and actually speak to you. Once you get inside the bar is BIG. There's tons of room to get up and walk around or dance. Smoking is allowed, but it's never seemed like a "smokey" bar to me. Can't wait to get back to Nashville and Second Fiddle.

This place was located right on Broadway... we were drawn in by the loud bnad that was playing....stopped in here for a few drinks...they had a great live banding playing all nite...great mixed crowd...good times to be had :)

  • Robert N.

This was our most favorite bar in Nashville, I don't remember anything particular about the bar that made it good or bad. 99% of the rating was based on the band playing "radio romance" I was not a big country fan walking into Nashville but after their show I cannot say that is the case anymore.

  • Mandy P.

This was the first stop on the Hurricane Mandy tour and it was most definitely my favorite (and clear in my head). The band that was playing actually played good, old country, as well as some of their own stuff which was most definitely tolerable. It was a tad on the smokey side, but considering it wasn't very busy and I could get a seat, I was willing to temporarily endure. The bartender was a very nice guy and the decor was like walking back in time. Props for +21 crowd. I don't go out drinking during the day to spend it with children. No offense parents.

  • Bryan B.

Pretty solid experience here on a Friday afternoon, the live band did a great job of getting the crowd involved since the place wasn't packed, they were asking for song requested and provided some great great cover songs (including the one and only Johnny Cash). At this stage in my life I'm used to non smoking bars (from California & Ireland) so it was a little strange to be in a place with smoking going on but I was able to put up with it. Since some of my friends smoke it was fine and they enjoyed the novelty of being able to smoke in a bar again. Good spot to stop into while you're walking down broadway in Nashville.

  • Angie M.

If you are visiting Nashville, don't have a lot of time, and want to get the ultimate Honky Tonk experience, I highly suggest Second Fiddle. Went here on a Friday night, and the band playing had a great setlist of cover tunes while mixing in their original material. The place is pretty big with a huge bar. Jack and Coke is $3.50; super cheap according to this Californian. A good mix of visitors and locals, but everyone was just there to have some drinks and listen to good music. Very cool! :)

Rotating schedule of music, nice bartenders, decent size place. As good of a place as any of the others right there in downtown.

  • Laura S.

This was my introduction to honky-tonk bars. I feel like I had a very successful tourist experience. There were country music, cheap drinks, mullets and dancing. Thumbs-up all around.

Had GREAT Bar-B-Que. Enough said. I really enjoyed it and the music was pretty good as well.

RAISE YOUR GLASSES IN THE AIR....HOLLER! This place is a pretty fun place. Another bar in Nashville that my crew checked out that had a live singer. The one thing that was different about this place then the other bars was it was HUGE! I appreciated the fact that there was a lot of room to actually walk around the bar!

  • David P.

Less crowded, more filling (with cheap beer), awesome live band with no cover charge, what more can you ask for? Becki McLeod was the lead singer with a pretty skilled back up band playing rock with just enough country and honky-tonk for this out-of-towner. I need to ding them one star 'cause they had the amp up one notch above comfortable. If wasn't so loud, we probably would have stayed longer. As my associate and I were deciding which honky-tonk to pop into, the lead vocal caught our attention at the Bluegrass Inn down the street but they were just rapping up and going on a long break or closing up shop for the next band to come in. The place was packed as were most of the bars near by. Seems more of a place where the locals go. There weren't a whole lot of people there in total. And, just us Silicon Valley types and a couple visiting from the UK clapped or otherwise showed any reaction to the music. Ultimately on Broadway you decide which honky-tonk to go to based on who's playing. Everything else is pretty comparable. So if Becki is playing, this is *the* place you want to be.

Fantastic live music and fairly uncrowded for a Friday Night. Had so much fun there! Only thing is that the drinks were pretty expensive, but definitely worth it for the music!

Nice place to grab a drink & listen to live music. There are many bars on Broadway in Nashville, Second Fiddle is one of them. It was not as populated as other bars, say like Honky Tonk and Tootsies but it was fun. Will go there again if I visit Nashville. Pros: Music: Nice live bands. Good music. Crowd: People seemed to be having fun. Not overpopulated like other bars in the area. Staff: Bartenders and servers were friendly and fast. Don't need to wait long to get your drink(s)!!! Ambiance: Real cool. Liked the pictures of classic country singers on the wall. Cons: will tell you when I think of one :P

    (4)
  • Charles S.

Great bands here! The music is loud, but not TOO loud. The ambiance is cool and is very Nashville. The crowd was friendly and the bartenders were fast and helpful. Good times!

Great place. Good music and people. A definite must do.

While walking up and down Broadway, I knew I had to chose a country western bar and listen to honky tonk before I left town. I really don't like country music and knew that these bars wouldn't change my mind. It didn't. But country music is Americana and I had to experience it live, love it or not. The bar was long and the live band played at the front with their backs to the window so patrons walking by could see and hear them. Because they were playing some Sweet Home Alabama when I walked by, I thought it would ok to come in here. Bartenders were not very sociable and the crowd really didn't seem to get into the music. Maybe they don't like country either? Nonetheless, I'm glad I walked in and stuck around.

The bartenders may be fast, but they also like to pull a fast one on you. I paid for two mixed drinks ($7.25 each, not terrible considering the place) with a $20, and the Britney Spears wannabe took my cash and pocketed the change. I stood there a minute, expecting her to get in the change drawer as quickly as she greeted me and made my drinks, but no. She disappeared, evidently under the impression she deserved a $5.50 tip. She tried to do the same thing to another girl in our party with a $7 order. No, you don't get a $13 tip, sugar. Maybe this is standard operating procedure nowadays, but it's not cool and would keep me from tipping at all on subsequent drinks. The live music was decent and the crowd wasn't obnoxious. Go in there with ones and quarters and you should be all set.

This is our first trip to Nashville. The music playing was great, the bartenders were awesome. They were on it! Keeley and Chad were awesome!!!!! They made the evening. Thanks again.

Fun bar in the downtown area of Nashville. My friends always seem to bring me here when we're in town and we have not been disappointed yet. We have seen the same band play twice here though on two completely different occasions which I thought was strange, but they were pretty good so no complaints from me.

    (4)
  • Destiny H.

Great live music and local beer! Not too crowded either! Perfect spot to get started on a Friday night!

    (4)
  • Kevin B.

Nashville at it's best. Good bands. I just wish they didn't move out the tables and chairs. Very limited seating so it's difficult to stay here very long.

  • Lauren P.

I was visiting for CMA fest 2015. This place had great music, beer, and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend. We had a lot of fun at The Second Fiddle and look forward to going back when we come back to Nashville.

    (5)
  • Nathaniel P.

The band was good and the beer was cold, but seriously... How does a bar named second fiddle hire a band without a fiddle???

    (4)
  • Sina N.

Such a great experience to visit this bar. The band (on the night of 8/7/13) played classic country songs, and the singer was talented, yet funny enough to entertain the crowd. He came off the stage and walked around, partly to collect tips but also interact with the people in the bar. The bartenders were friendly, and prompt in serving drinks and snacks that we ordered. With numerous Honky Tonk bars on Broadway in Nashville, The Second Fiddle will surely be my first recommendation to anyone that is in town and wants to listen to authentic country music. There is a little dance floor for those of you that are looking to swing the hips. The interior is cool, with antique radio receivers and instruments decorating the walls.

  • Lyd L.

We loved the folky live music here. There were locals that were doing some awesome dancing. Favorite bar of the evening.

    (5)
  • Shawn S.

This space was a little bit tighter but we really liked the band. I was on crutches and the bartender came over regularly to give me appropriate sympathy and to check on me. The bar has been around for a while, and they offered standard bar offerings. I liked that the bands were a little bit more bluesy vs twangy, but probably depends on who is there on a given day. No TV.

  • David T.

The bartenders were fast and the music was good, but that jackass of a security guard out front ruined our night. Me and my friend step out for a smoke and start to come back in. The security was supposed to stamp our hands as we came in, but didn't stamp my friends hand hard enough or something. He told my friend that he wouldn't let hit back in. I tell dude "he came in with me the first time." He turns around and tells me if I don't calm down, he will kick me out. What a jerk. The bartender said his name is Steve. I won't be back.

  • john l.

This place is a lot of fun. You can find more authentic places (Robert's, Ryman, etc.), but this place just feels like a good time. The bands that at Second Fiddle were very good with involving the crowd and making it fun.

    (5)
  • Annekje V.

I was alone on a business trip. The bouncer actually sold me on coming in! I still wasn't convinced until, while standing near a table, the bartender came out from behind the bar to take my order!!! Amazing!! Band was great! At least as good as next door at tootsies is not better. Keep up the fantastic customer service!!! You'll have lines out the door in no time!

    (5)
  • Abbie F.

Eh. Music was too country and too loud. Drinks were ok. Best part about it was that there were seats and could sit down.

    (2)
  • Misha T.

It was the 2nd fiddle but the 3rd honky tonk we stopped at. Same deal as all the others with some kitschy-er decor.

    (4)
  • Michelle F.

Not a bad bar--not a great one, either. We came here on a Saturday night, and it was sort of empty. There was a pretty good band playing, the drinks were just ok, and the bathrooms were rather dirty. I did buy a t-shirt here, though, because Legends only had then in XL. I am a Small. But it's a cute shirt anyway!

  • Nickie G.

I came to Second Fiddle after tooling around at a couple of other honky tonks. I can't say that it stood out as being awesome, but it definitely was A-OK. Even though it was past 11pm there were still seats available if you wanted one. The band was cracking some country rock. The bartenders were quick with the booze and the drinks were pretty strong considering. You can smoke 'em if you got 'em the way honky tonks are supposed to be. So basically it is solid all the way around! Give it a try when you are ready for a less crowded bar with somewhere to sit!

    (3)
  • Michael H.

Not a single TV, so if you're looking to watch games forget it. Nice place to catch a live show. Not much else distinguishes Second Fiddle from all the others.

    (2)
  • Paul K.

I dig this place because unlike most music lovers, I tend to like to sit and be able to get a drink. Standing in a line to try and grab an overpriced beer is not my scene, nor is being pressed against the mass sea of standing humanity that I'm sure can't be fire-safe. This place always seems to have a seat, a decent band (although I think I've seen the same people about 5 times I've been there (out of maybe 10) over the past 7 years). I did stop to wonder when Kim Y pointed it out, of all the instruments on the wall, I have never noticed a fiddle...

    (4)
  • Jessica W.

Oh my gosh, this place is amazing and has some of the best bartenders. I would like to start off by saying, we asked for a mixed drink which required root beer. The bartender let us know they did not carry root beer, but instead of making us order another drink, she offered to go next door and BUY us some root beer! Um, coming from Chicago, this was a once in a lifetime thing and Second Fiddle will forever receive five stars. The band played excellent music - not one song we didn't know or want to learn because they were such great performers. The band was so engaging, and the people in the bar were just as much fun. The drinks were pretty cheap compared to some other spots on the strip, and the bartenders really know what they are doing. Great spot.

Every time I come to Nashville I have a great time at The Second Fiddle. This trip proved no differently. I was in town with my husband in mid September. Brandi Thorton was awesome on Thursday night, her voice is unbelievable. The bartender had a really big fantastic smile & she was very nice to us. We've been coming in for years & we were pleasantly surprised to see Megan when we went back on Friday. All the staff is friendly & kinda silly (one guy behind the bar was hilarious) and seem to get along well (cutting up, working hard, laughing and smiling all night) which makes it an even better place to be. Seems more like a family working together. This is not a Honky Tonk anybody should be skipping past when visiting Nashville.

  • Alysse W.

Only there for a beer and a half on 4th of July. Bartender wasn't too friendly, but it was find for a quick beer and a fun environment. Also the live music was a little on the loud side for conversation. At any rate I would return as it seems to be a Solid honky tonk and at good for some beer!!

    (3)
  • Grace S.

Adam stone rocks! It's a bar. It looks and feels like a bar. The live music is awesome though! The service is slow, at least the blond is slow. The brunette is awesome!

    (5)
  • Blair S.

The Second Fiddle is an excellent stop for your honky tonking trip down Lower Broadway. The bands are consistently talented and energetic. The crowd is laid back but dancing along. Even late in the night the crowd, drunk or sober, is better behaved than many other Downtown Nashville spots. The crowd is a little thinner than its neighbors, but that only means fewer shoulder checks and elbows in your back. The bartenders are some of the best on Broadway. To top it all off, the beer list is not limited to domestic light beers.

    (4)
  • Kelli B.

Live band. Great bartenders. Can't ask for much more in a bar.

    (5)
  • Bekki M.

A few blocks north of Broadway in Printer's Alley. Worth the walk but located next to a gentleman's club and a shady-looking karaoke bar. A Yuengling and a drink were $8.50 compared to $11.50-$12.00 on Broadway. If you're looking for a place to relax without being packed in like sardines while you listen to live music this is it. The only downside is the cigarette smoke.

This was one of my first stops on my Broadway Fun Night. I never went "honky ton king" when I lived in Nashville but when you are away from it you appreciate it. Every night in Nashville is like a concert and every night it is like the best concert of your life. I have never been into Second Fiddle. I usually pop in to Tootsies or Legends, but I wanted to give this place a whirl. Like all the other spots, the music was awesome. I have to give huge props to the band because I felt like I was welcomed home last night. Having the first song be "Rocky Top" made me miss home so much. Drinks are reasonable. Mixed drinks run about $6.25 while beers are around $3 I think. The bartenders do a great job. The only thing I don't like about this place is its size. I feel like my bum was "accidentally" squeezed more than once because it was packed to the gills. But then again, I was in a honkey tonk in Nashville. Oh well!

  • Margaux D.

We stopped into this little place when we were being tourists in Nashville. Had a few beers and listened to some good live music. They definitely have a Western vibe, and the place was fun. I'd tell a friend to go here, so you should, too! I went at around 4:00 and was able to get a table very easily.

  • Denise J.

A good place to stop in for a quick drink but not one you'd spend a lot of time at.we went on Saturday after a few other bars and this was my least favorite. The band that was playing wasn't great, which is why it might have been so empty in there. WARNING- the bathrooms are nasty!!!!! No toliet paper in any of the stalls, horrible smell and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in like a month!!!!

    (3)
  • Lesley S.

My second favorite honky tonk next to Legends. I love it! Everyone was friendly. The band was great. There is places to move around and not feel have to babysit your beer from being spilt. Bartenders are friendly and quick! I must see in Nashville!

    (5)
  • Kaity J.

Pretty sure this is the best place on Broadway if you're looking for a classic Honky Tonk experience. HUGE place, which is pretty rare for a bar. Lots of room to walk around and dance :) Good live music. Just amazing.

The Second Fiddle is my favorite honky tonk in all of Nashville. When I move to Nashville, this will be my bar! It's so great that we ended up there for a second night in a row after trying out a sampling of bars on Brodway as well as 2nd street. Here's why it rocked my socks off: * The bouncers outside smile and say hi as you walk by. Is Nashville friendly, or what? * No cover charge * Great stage against the front of the bar so you can stand outside and listen to the band for a song or two before deciding if you want to settle inside. * I heard one of my favorite songs of all time, a cover of Nitty Gritty's, Fishin' in the Dark, as we walked by and I knew this was the bar for me. * The local bands we heard were great. We heard originals as well as a variety of covers spanning traditional and modern country. I heard everything from tunes by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to Gary Allan and Keith Urban. * If you feel like dancing, there's a huge open space between the bar and the stage that was intended just for you. * If you're not a dancer, there's plenty of tables around the dance floor from where you can people-watch. These Nashville folks have got their moves down, in kicks and cowbat hats, of course. * There's plenty space to find a seat, even when crowded, just be patient. I had a stool at the bar after 20 minutes of hanging out up there. * The bartenders are SO attentive. Lock eyes, even by accident, and they are on their way! * The drinks are strong and cheap (compared to Chicago prices)! * The decor ... AWESOME!!!!!! Grand Old Opry memorabilia, autographed guitars, banjo, upright bass, instruments I've never seen and old radios all over the walls. * The bathrooms are clean, even at 2am! 3 stalls for the ladies. If you're looking for a friendly, chill bar with great live country music, this is the place for you.

For me, this bar is right up there with Legends as far as honky tonks in the downtown area. Good little bar that I would definitely hit up, along with some of the classics like Roberts and Tootsie

    (4)
  • Michael K.

holy friggin' redneck city...bands play for tips here and that is unconscionable. some good musicians playing shit music. bathrooms sketchy.

    (2)
  • Robin S.

A lesser-known honky tonk on the strip, Second Fiddle gets 4 stars because it is always far less crowded than Tootsie's or the Stage. Music is just as good though. It's another narrow bar, but if you have a large group this might be a better place to try--again, just because it's not usually as crowded. Beer is cold, service is decent, and music is kickin'. I wouldn't go for the food but they have the main bar vittles (chicken fingers, fries, etc) if you're drinking and need something to absorb the alcohol. If you're already downtown, don't pass by Second Fiddle. It's worth a beer or two!
