I made reservations for Rumours East using Open Table and was well on my way to being on time. An hour and 10 minutes late for my reservation, I arrived after being stuck in Titans traffic. I had called to let the restaurant know to let my reservation go, and they said instead they'd see me when I got there, that they'd heard from others stuck in traffic and to be careful. Indeed, when I arrived, they made no fuss out of my arrival at 7:40 p.m. for a 6:30 p.m. reservation and seated me and my friend in the beautiful outdoor patio. From our seats, we looked up through the vine-covered pergola at the darkening sky and over at the garden, where the zucchini flourished. My friend began to get eaten up by mosquitoes, and the server offered her bug spray (what restaurant is prepared for this?!), but we decided to move inside. Not a problem to them, and they had us select our table. I was already impressed by their ease and accommodation, but the food and drinks won me over: a bubbly champagne cocktail, crispy fried baby octopus with pickled jalapeno, tender meat that fell off the bone to bathe with new potatoes and a mild almond and semolina cake with mascarpone cheese and homemade peach preserves. My friend and I both remarked on how the portion sizes were perfect -- This allowed us to both indulge in dessert, which is unusual in a city that stuffs diners with massive entrees. We both ordered from the Restaurant Week 2013 menu, and my friend opted for the wine pairings. I found it odd the timing of her wine, which sometimes came before or after the matching course, and for awhile, she had two full glasses of wine at her plate. The server wasn't too attentive, which is exactly what we wanted -- we ate slowly and were there for about two hours -- but her face lit up when we did engage her. I'm so pleased with the food and atmosphere that I know I'll be back. There's a happy hour daily 5-7 p.m., for which I usually clamor, but even the Titans couldn't get me down for missing it.

Great HH spot. They bartender was super nice and drinks were great. They give you just the right amount of attention! We did not eat because we had dinner plans somewhere else but definitely want to go back and try the food because it looked great!

The bar menu is really good- especially during happy hour. Cheese plate is awesome- really great jam accompanies it. The duck hot dog, empanadas, melted cheese - all really good- but the pickle plate is awesome!

Nice ambiance...the restaurant atmosphere is beautiful, especially in the summertime with their outdoor patio----and the good feelings end there. Ridiculously small portions at a hefty price is common enough, but at least make the dishes pop in flavor...additionally, our server was not extremely attentive, it took almost 20 minutes for him to come by and take our order. Maybe he was biting off more than he could chew, but the restaurant did not feel extremely busy. Maybe I'll give them another shot and come back purely for drinks and the patio over the summer, but my relationship with their food is donezo.

We've tried to get into here several weekends in a row and finally succeeded this past weekend. It's on the pricey side, but it was worth it. The food was perfectly portions and the flavors were so distinguished. You could taste every single ingredient in every single bite. Their cocktail list is quite extensive and full of originals, be sure to try some. If you're looking for a nice dining experience with a trendy crowd, this is a great option.

We've eaten here a couple of times but I neglected to write a review until now. Rumours East is a small house converted to a cozy little restaurant. Both times we sat outside on the patio. The food and service was great. The last time we were there was late Summer. We sat under the tin roof in the open air, overlooking the beautiful garden where they grow their own herbs and vegetables. The patio and garden is lit with white lights making the ambience perfect. My husband and I strolled through the garden waiting for our entrees as it started to rain. We got back to our table listening as the rain gently hit the tin roof. Our entrees, wine and atmosphere was perfect. What a beautiful date night. Rumours East got it right.

I love everything about Rumours East, the only thing I don't love is that I don't go more often! The ambiance is wonderfully welcoming, it feels like a house of friends having lovely conversations all over! Their wine and drink list is very impressive as well. Not just a wine bar yall, they have some amazing craft cocktails too! Food isn't too shabby either, you can never go wrong with their artisan cheese plate! They also have a pretty impressive happy hour. Now that I live on the East Side I cannot wait to spend this spring on their patio with vino and cheese! Sounds like heaven. That's another thing, their patio is arguably the best in Nashville! CHECK IT OUT!

absolutely amazing! I ate here with my family and loved it! We started with the mussels and full cheese plate. The variety in cheeses was very impressive. The mussels were garlicy and savory. For our main courses we had the filet, pork chop, and duck breast. the Filet was good. The pork chop was amazing. The duck breast was to die for! Great wine and cocktail selection. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone!

I'm honestly dumbfounded how I've lived in Nashville since 2004 and on the east side for 5 years not and have never stepped foot into this gorgeous establishment until a few days ago. We had wonderful service outside. They seem to work great as a team as we had several people come check on us. Our glasses were never empty! I stole a couple delicious nibbles off a friend's cheese plate that has me wanting to come back ASAP and order my own food! I LOVE their back yard/patio area and their happy hour is something to brag about. I see many summer nights being spent here.

We have generally been fond of Rumours East, but our experience this evening was sub-par. Drinks (wine and cocktails) were fine but the food was our problem. My wife ordered the vegetarian entree (pumpkin dumplings). While it was tasty, the portion size was barely an appetizer portion at an entree price. I ordered fish on risotto. While it was tasty, the rice was undercooked and crunchy. Pretty big disappointment.

I went here during Restaurant Week 2013 very excited to try Rumours due to their good reviews. The restaurant is in a cute house-like building with outdoor and indoor seating. The hostess was great and friendly and let me sit wherever I wanted. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. After the hostess sat me with my menus, she brought me my water. Then it took the bartender who was just walking by and noticed I was waiting on my server to show up 15-20 minutes later for my order to get placed. My server was not attentive at all throughout the night and she would show up every 15 minutes or so but never bothered to refill my water until I asked for my to-go box at the end of my meal. Terrible. As for the food, I ordered a Watermelon and Tomato Salad with feta and aged balsamic to start, then seared scallops with braised chickpeas and finally an almond and seminola cake with peach preserves and marscapone cream. Well, there were no tomatoes on the watermelon and tomato salad nor was there any balsalmic on the plate. The dessert was bland and not worth finishing. The scallops had great flavor and the highlight to an otherwise disappointing experience. Sorry to say not worth the pricetag. Next time I think I'll try Lockeland Table down the street- which was much busier than Rumours if that tells you anything.

Truly not much more needs to be said than the Winter Salad was amaze-balls!! I loved the old house ambiance and the great atmosphere. I was there for a girlfriend's 25th, where there were 4 different small groups of friends. We all loved our different plates & had great conversation and a chance to get to know each other better! Thanks Rumours East! I'll definitely be back to try an entree...and the cheese plate...and the chocolate torte...

First timer at Rumors and a huge fan!! Love the back patio, unfortunately the mosquitoes ate us alive.. will have to come back when it's not so buggy. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and patient with our questions. We got two appetizers, a salad and two entrees split between three people. My favorite were the scallops and the cheese plate. our guest, a visitor from san fran was very impressed. Yahoo for Happy Hour!

Rumours East, another proud-to-be-local dining and drinking establishment, located in the ultra coveted 5 Points area. My first experience here was only so-so - the food was alright. I want to like Rumours East more than I do at the end of the day. This return trip gave me a little more to get excited about. I ordered a sampling of everything, starting with the winter salad. I know it had a fruit in it - maybe golden raising? - but it was honestly so underwhelming I can't remember anything about it at all. The same with the soup of the day, which sounded awesome - kind of a root veggie tomato based thing, with crispy fried sweet potato shoestrings on top. Not a winner. However, what WERE winners were the lobster and feta ravioli - the homemade ravioli du jour - and the snapper dish with broccoli rabe and squash gratin. The ravioli were wonderful. Beautifully combined flavors. And the snapper - gosh, it was resemblant of dishes in which I am able to take what I call a "360 bite" - I take a fork and make sure to get a taste of EVERYTHING on the plate on it, and eat it, and all of the flavors compliment each other. The snapper was dressed with capers, and the squash gratin was to die for. The broccoli rabe were perfect too. (However, don't plan on taking broccoli rabe home for left-overs! This isn't a cooked veggie that stands up well to being saved for later.) After a glass of prosecco and this indulgent meal, I was out of room (and money) and did not order dessert. But now I know I can return to Rumours East and find items I REALLY enjoy. (And maybe dessert will be one of them.)

This place has graduated to my top 3 in Nashville. I know I just wrote a review a month ago, but I went again this weekend and I am compelled to update. Hrant is the exec chef, and blows my mind with his flavor profiles and combinations of textures and techniques. I had some fam in town from Boston and needed to impress this weekend. Rumours delivered and then some. The food is creative, fresh, and has spices and textures you can't find anywhere else in Nashville, except for Etch, maybe. Etch is similar in technique, but sticks to more of a Euro/Asia spice set. (You can tell they cooked together before). At Rumours, you can taste Western Europe, North Africa, the Mediterranean, even South America. The food will transport you to the native country for a wonderful, delicious, moment. Not to worry, though. You always end up back in East Nashville. Service is outstanding, and you wonder if the staff is taking happy pills before work because everyone is so nice. Wine list is spot on, and the patio is fantastic. JUST GO ALREADY

The ambience is amazing, the house charming, and the patio magical. Our server was fantastic, full of suggestions and appropriate wine pairings. We were surprised by an octopus appetizer, I don't believe it was on the menu but it was one of the best things I've put in my mouth. For my entree I had the duck and although I haven't had duck too many places it was the best duck I've had. I can't wait to return!

You see, I'm British. I see a semi on the road and think, "By golly! What a positively large lorry!" I put my trash in a dustbin and walk on a footpath. I wear my knickers over my bums and tell people to bugger off if they're bothering me. So when I heard about RumoUrs East, I was, well, confused. The name...Rumours? With a U? East? I thought we were all "The West" I decided to investigate with my trusted sidekick, Dr. Waston. Watson and I packed our best monocles, waxed our mushes and headed to wet our whistles at Rumours East. We were magnificently impressed by the quaint countryside called East Nashville where RE stood. It was as we were treading on the footpath leading up to RE when Watson whispered to me, "By Jove, Sherlock. Would it not be because RE was in EAST Nashville that it got its oriental moniker?" "BY JOVE, WATSON, ole chap," I exclaimed, bashing his head with a jolly good thump. "That was alimentary! Genius!" The décor inside was inviting and poring over the wine list, we realized that we had a serious list of wines to pick from around the world. So we ordered a glass each from Chile and France and felt quite regal indeed. Only last week Watson and I returned from the adventure of the Hounds of Baskerville and seeing the hounds, we had emptied our bowels. The good doctor put us both on a vegetarian diet to recuperate and I was happy to see that RE had an excellent pizza to eat. Watson pulled out some rubber balls, dropped them onto the wooden floor and said, "Let us trip on 'em, Sherlock" and we tripped balls as we ate and drank pizza and wine. But then, alas, news came that Professor Moriarty was performing at the Nashville Symphony and we paid our bills and left in a hurry, vowing to be back again.

Seriously amazing service! They let me in half an hour before they opened without complaint. Allowed me to order and take a load off while I waited for my friends. Also, amazing wine and great patio!

From the cheese plate to the hummus to the main course to the wine, EVERYTHING was great. I tried the top sirloin served with creamy parmesan grits, caramelized onions, and a spinach salad with balsamic reduction. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium) and the grits were killer. My friend had the gnocchi with chicken, spinach, mushrooms, onion, and garlic in a white wine cream sauce. Also an awesome dish! The gnocchi was so tender. Mmm. All around, it was a GREAT meal but a wee bit fancy. Rumours is a great place for a date night or an evening on the lawn with some wine.

How many years did it take me to finally make it back to Rumors for an actual meal? Too many freaking years. I'm between 4 and 5 stars for Rumors. Honestly, I'm in love with the atmosphere and the place itself. It's gorgeous, cozy and just down right appealing. However, portions are on the small side compared to other places that feature similar menus, for similar prices, for similar quality - that's really my only beef with the place. NOW having said that, I left full after four scallops and two pieces of their bruschetta with ricotta and pickled strawberries. I guess I just wanted to have a another couple slices of bruschetta on the plate or maybe I'm just a fatty American. Service is some of the best in the city and they have a kick ass drink selection, as well as wine (duh). Their Paloma was LOVELY, no cheap tequila here my friends. Rumors is like Margot, I always forget about it, but I love it very much.

Being a recent transplant to Nashville, I decided to venture to the 5 Points, East Nashville area for the 1st time, intrigued by the reviews Rumours East had received. I had a delightful meal. I was solo and was seated in the bar area of this rustic home-like restaurant. I listened to a pleasant mix of music (including reggae) and not overly loud bar chatter. There was a reasonable array of premium liquors presented on the chalkboard and a variety of specialty cocktails, beers and wines by the glass offered in the menu. My waitress, Susan, was very pleasant, and made a nice suggestion for my dinner wine (Denairo [sp?] malbec). I opened with the soup du jour, a creamy carrot miso soup which was absolutely delicious. I wanted a pork porterhouse for my entree, but they had sold out. (I arrived for dinner without a reservation at ~8:30 pm on a Saturday night.) I tried their filet instead, and it was very tasty. They pride themselves on their organic veggies and they were prominent throughout their menu and added great flavor. Now, portions are not overly ample. In fact, Rumours East is one of the few restaurants where I've been served the right amount of food to fill me to satisfaction and not have me asking for a doggie bag. It's not cheap, but I plan to come back.

Their food was SO delicious, however something our waitress did rubbed me the wrong way. We went during Restaurant Week and they were having a wine 2-4-1 special but you had to order before 7PM. My friend and I told her this is what we wanted to do and she said that was fine. Our checks came however and it had 1 discounted wine and 1 full price wine. We asked why this wasn't reflecting the deal we got and she said since we didn't get our second glass served before 7PM (even though we had already ordered it) she said we couldn't do the deal. Um, this doesn't make any sense to me. First we can then we can't? Also, why didn't she say anything about that before, during or after the meal? Ridiculous. Other than that, it was a pretty good place.

Went to Rumours East for my fiances birthday last weekend, his parents were coming in town and I thought the backyard would be the perfect setting for the event! I was right, the patio/garden rocks! I love the outside lights and the little garden, perfect for an evening meal. Anyway I had the shrimp and grits, and it was GOOD. I also had the beet salad which was good but could have used some goat cheese I think (what couldnt?) Also they didnt have any ravioli which was a bummer. I lived though. My father in law had the shrimp pizza, delish! Fiance had the seared tuna, Amazing! Mother in law had scallops, not as good as the others but still good. Go there!

I have been eagerly anticipating my first experience at Rumours East for some time after hearing many positive comments from friends around the neighborhood. While I would agree with their rave reviews on the whole, I would say that 3.5 stars would be my first impression because of a couple of very minor things. But since the experience was better than a 3 and 3.5 stars is not an option, then 4 it is. Not that the experience was bad by any means, but maybe I expected too much because of the hype from my friends. Moving on........ When we entered the front door, we were warmly greeted by the hostess. She was so nice when we walked in, and that, coupled with the fact that we were in an old house with a cozy fire going, felt like we were being welcomed into someone's personal home, and not a restaurant/bar. It was a very nice first impression and start to our evening. She then gave us the option to sit in the bar area or in the dining room with the fireplace. We chose to cozy up next to the fire at a small table. Our server Patrick quickly came to the table, introduced himself and promptly asked if we had any questions about the wine or appetizers. We started with a cheese plate and a glass of prosecco. The cheese plate came with four different cheeses, sliced granny smith apples, two small loaves of bread, candied pecans, and apple butter. I enjoyed all of the cheeses and loved them all paired with the fresh apples and ridiculously delicious apple butter. The prosecco was also a great recommendation from Patrick and worked well with the entire plate. Just as we finished our cheese plate, the entrees that we ordered were on the table. I ordered the lamb sausage with shaved carrot, celery, and apple salad with spiced almonds, and the couscous fritters. I was a little leery of the lamb sausage because it can definitely be a little gamey to me, but the spices in the sausage were a great complement to the meat and disguised any gaminess that might have been present. There was definitely a North African tilt to the meal with the spice combination in the sausage having cumin, coriander, cayenne, etc... The almonds had some nice flavor and spice as well, but the couscous fritters were a little bland and dry. There was also a spicy tomato based sauce that was under everything that really tied in nicely with the other flavors on the plate. We decided that we would get our dessert to go because by the end of the meal we were too full to enjoy another bite. It was a dark chocolate torte with a mixed berry coulis and whipped cream. Even though I typically like desserts that are not overly sweet and love dark chocolate, this one was almost salty. Unfortunately, this was a big disappointment at the end of a pretty solid meal. Definitely not enough to turn me off from going again, but worth noting. I will absolutely go back and try their menu again, especially since it varies from time to time depending on the freshest available ingredients. All in all, a good meal in a warm, friendly environment that has earned them another visit very soon.

I would recommend Rumours East. It is better than most restaurants but when compared to other high-end places in Nashville, I wasn't particularly blown away by the food. The atmosphere and drink selection were great. The service was good. We ordered the cheese plate for an appetizer and it was very tasty. The entrees were good but somewhat underwhelming. I'll definitely go back because the outside patio is so enjoyable and the food is satisfying, but if I want more interesting and lively flavors I'll stick with the assured Margot's down the street.

Restaurant Week strikes again! I had not been to Rumours in a while, but was lured by the special menu and the proximity to home. The $30 menu came with three courses. I had the winter salad, which was perfect. It looked like it had not been dressed, but when I ate it, I found it had the most perfect light citrusy dressing on it. I don't usually rave about salads, but this one really was good. For my entree I had salmon, which came with a yummy lemon, asparagus risotto cake. Different and flavorful. The salmon was cooked perfectly. My dessert was a chocolate torte and, well, you just can't go wrong with that. I ordered one glass of wine, which I enjoyed, but my boyfriend got the wine pairings. The wines were all well chosen, including the port to go with dessert. I didn't think I liked port, but it was delightful with the chocolate. There was a surprise bonus - jazz playing in the bar. We were sitting at the bar, because I like sitting at bars, and were worried that the music might be too loud or annoying (having run into that occasionally at other establishments). Quite the contrary. The band playing was called Crackerboots and made the evening a romantic adventure. Mmmm . . . I'm already looking forward to a return visit.

This was my first time checking this spot out and I was mad that i hadn't been until now. We started off with the mediterranean platter, mussels, and the goat cheese and beet terrine. Absolutely delicious!! The scallops were to die for! Cool spot in the trendy east side, and everyone should check it out if you have not.

I avoid big box eateries that cater to crying babies, glutenous diners and menu items you can find in the freezer section of Krogers. If I'm going to pay to eat out, it has to be different, something I don't want to hassle making or the setting has to be so much better than my own house. We loved Rumours East. Just down from a commercial hub, the restaurant sits up off the street in an old house. We ate outside in the backyard. It was simply divine, albeit, a tad warm (as it was August), but they set up one of those commercial fans, the kind you'd find in a warehouse or an auto body shop. Before getting too far off track, the food, delicious, inventive and perfect portion sizes. For starters, fried green tomatoes and a shared salad. For our entrees, I had the scallops - seared so they were firm, sweet and served over grits with a spinach salad. Husband had the pork loin. Fortunately, he was on a diet so he offered me a bite of the tender meat and a lot of his potato gratin and fresh cabbage salad and chimichurri. A final note, the server was delightful, attentive, but not pushy, knowledgeable about the wines, but again, not pushy and efficient. Except for the humidity and lingering heat of the day, couldn't have asked for a better dining experience.

Mm, okay, this place isn't bad. The atmosphere of the large fenced-in outdoor seating area behind it is gorgeous. If you wanted to go on a date with me, I would be impressed sitting out there and enjoying the beautiful weather. The food is also decent - nothing spectacular, but fairly good. I went with some friends for Restaurant Week, which is probably a way for restaurants to increase their average check by a lot... odd that it remains wildly popular. Anyway, if you opted for the "special menu", it was $30.12 with $20.12 wine pairing, versus about $16 for the vegetarian entree on the regular menu (gnocchi). The first course was: "Bruschetta with butternut squash jam, watercress, shaved parmesan cheese, and green chili reduction." It was OK. A piece of not-crunchy but not-quite-chewy bread with what tasted like applesauce on top... if there was any green chili reduction or watercress or parmesan cheese, the quantity was so small that I didn't notice any. Not particularly inspiring, and definitely not worth the price... One of the other people in my party had the salad - decent salad, but nothing spectacular. The main course was: Roasted eggplant cheese polenta terrine, arugula, and pickled onion salad. The sauce was overpowering! The eggplant, cooked very nicely and tender, would have been delicious had I been able to taste it better. The pickled onion salad, well, that was also very pungent and far too strong for the dish. But not bad. The portion size also was decent, not just a tiny sliver some fancy restaurants tend to do. Most of my party had the steak option, which they agreed was tender, although one person's cut was less high-quality than the others. The dessert I had was the chocolate torte. No way it was worth the $8 of the menu price. It wasn't bad, but again, nothing super-salivary-inducing. The bread pudding also wasn't bad, but nothing too special either. Thus, this is a charming little restaurant with a cozy inside reminiscent of a coffee shop and a gorgeous backyard grassy dining area that produces decent food, with plenty of vegetarian options, and can rightfully be in the lineup of yummy East Nashville food options.

Very disappointed. I was really excited to try this place out because I had heard a lot about it. I ordered the sweet potato fries (soggy, too thick, and with a weird sauce) and lamb sausage (had a very over powering sauce) and was not satisfied or full. Waitress was wonderful and the ambiance was great... too bad the food did not live up to the hype because this could have easily been my new favorite spot.

Took my girlfriend here for her birthday during restaurant week. I had put a note on my reservation that I wanted to sit outside in the back area and upon arrival was told it was full and would take 45+ minutes to sit out there so that was a bit disappointing. Still sat outside on the side area, but not quite as nice although still enjoyable. Our server was very nice and did a good job overall. Food was excellent, enjoyed every course, we ordered 3 separate dishes for each course so we could share half and half and got to enjoy a lot of tasty food. Girlfriend had the wine pairing which seemed to go well with the dishes presented. Overall very nice place and will be back in the future.

Great dessert and great service. I came here with some friends and my wife on a Tuesday night to grab some drinks and dessert. We were seated promptly inside and were greeted by a very friendly waitress. The large wine list made it hard for our crew to decide on a drink of choice so the ladies tried out too samples. One of the samples was a recommendation of the waitress and she was spot on. We all split a bottle of wine and we could not pass up the chocolate torte made with local Olive & Sinclair chocolate. The tortes were absolutely awesome and despite the small dessert selection, we all were very pleased with our choice. I would highly recommend this place for drinks and dessert, in relation to this visit.

Never again. Attended a gathering at the East Nashville site where there were numerous checks in play. The kitchen could not keep up with orders and finally after more than a half hour I asked the waitress if there was a problem in the kitchen. I got a sincere explanation about them being busy, and that the manager would be out. Finally food arrives and I got a perfunctory "is everything OK?" from waitress and another unidentified person. Food was OK, although very late. When the bill showed up it had a 20% tip included, which was totally unmerited. The manager, it turns out, was the second unidentified "is everything OK?" person, who had blown her chance to apologize. She got a chunk of my mind on the way out. Really, with Margot Cafe nearby, why bother with this overpriced place?

Great wait and kitchen staff! We were here with a 3 year old and 1 year old, the kitchen were very accommodating and put together a spaghetti with parmesan dish for my friend's 3 year-old and it was delicious! We ordered the steamed mussels appetizer, which was simple and fresh, not creamy like at many italian restaurants...plenty of sauce for soaking with bread! The bread basket appetizer was good, with a mix of fresh parsley and onions in the olive oil for dipping. We also got the fried risotto, which is a ball of fried risotto with cheese. It was good, although I wish it were a little more moist on the inside. For entrees, we got the Salmon which was served on a grilled eggplant brushed with ricotta, and topped with pickled onions and kernels of pomegranate. Firstly, the salmon was perfectly cooked, medium-well and tender. I got the grilled lamb chops on barley, the lambs was well-made, albeit being somewhat rare on the meat next to the bone. But the barley had a good bite, with an earthy taste, these were accompanied by caramelized brussel sprouts. For dessert, we got the olive and sinclair chocolate torte which was divine as usual and a mini apple bundt cake, which was superbly moist. Definitely a keeper for Nashville!

My experience at Rumours was just ok. Cool little spot, good atmosphere, etc, but a lot left to desire. For the price point I expected top notch service, what was given was okay and was on par with what I've come to expect from East Nashville restaurants. Server never shared his name, was slow to prebus empty glasses and such on the table and appeared disinterested with what was happening at the table. The dining rooms are cozy but filled with hard surfaces creating a very loud dining experience. I tried the salmon for $20 and it was forgettable, nothing bad about it, but nothing very great either. All in all I was still hungry leaving Rumours, but I'd say it's worth a visit if for nothing else but the vibe.

I am writing an update to my very recent review on Rumours because it must be notated that this place is a wonderful place to host special events such as a wedding reception or large party. I was lucky enough to be a guest at a beautiful wedding celebration at Rumours East last night and was thoroughly impressed with the event. The patio was transformed with lighting, tent, a casual layout, and an impressive outdoor bar. The staff was wonderful and it made me realize what a great venue resource Rumours really is!

Really enjoyed Rumours East. The location (inside a converted, beautiful old home) is fantastic. Would love to come here in warmer weather to take advantage of porch dining and the huge back patio. It's really a cool southern charm vibe, rustic and also modern. The food was good and the service was excellent. Wine list is varied and has many good options at reasonable prices. The bar is small but seems like a nice place to hang out in the winter. East End is a little bit of hike from downtown (cab suggested) but was worth the visit. Could tell by the clientele that this is an up-and-coming neighborhood filled with young couples, artists and (inevitably) hipsters.

Just recently I went for the first time. The weather was perfect so we sat out back... I'd have to say, I felt like I was in an enchanted forest! It's beautiful. My friend and I thought we would be adventurous and try new wines so we did the "half glass" (for half the price!). Excellent wine selection and the server gave great recommendations. It was getting close to closing time so we made a mad dash to order one last glass of wine, this time a full glass. The server brought it out and we looked at each other - "This is a half glass" the server "No, it's a full glass, but out bartender is terribly inconsistent." Downside: Well... needless to say, I had quiet the (unintentional) hangover the next day :( Bright side: I got more than my moneys worth! :)

Hate to say it but food was mediocre at best. Last visit over a year ago food was stellar. What happened??

Having been here a few times and being a East Nashvillian I want to love this place and I partially do. The wait staff, the atmosphere, outdoor dining are all great. The venue itself is awesome, the bar area is fun but let's turn to the food. This is the only downside, the pseudo fusion of middle eastern and southern is tough to swallow. Not sure if something is getting lost in translation with the line cooks, but what we have had was just barely okay for the price we paid. The food doesn't come lose to the quality of Lockleand table down the street or Margot or Marche around the corner. Most recently, the sweet potato fries we had were bland, the Ragu was pretty much flavorless, the Brussels sprouts with bacon (which are out of place on the menu) were very underdone and under seasoned. I'd like to see a menu overhaul and decide what you're going to be, this place is too good to waffle between southern and middle eastern.

Perfect. Date. Spot. This place can't help but be romantic. The back patio is gorgeous, and even when we could only get a table by the bar, the lighting and atmosphere were still great. But that's secondary... it's about the food. And the wine. The wine list is solid. I believe they were changing menus the first time I came, so we got a nice bottle for half off. The waitress was familiar with the menu, and gave great recommendations. I've been back a few times, generally leaning towards the seafood dishes (UH-MAZING scallops) and have yet to be disappointed. It's not especially cheap, but not overpriced either, and that's why you save it for a date night. Or you snag a scoutmob deal for half off like we did last time. I'm sure I'll be back soon... it's patio season. One of my favorite places in East Nashville, for sure.

Took my parents when they came to visit. We ordered the scallops, swordfish, and roasted chicken, and everything was amazing. The mains, the sides, the sauces -- every bite followed by an "mmm." We're talking about full-on umami, people. Service and atmosphere were great, too. Sorry, Rumours -- I don't give five stars on the first date, but let's do dinner again sometime.

So disappointed to write this, but tonight's horrendous experience had to be commented on. I arrived at 6:15 with one other person to get a drink and maybe dinner (I hadn't seen the menu and after being unimpressed last time I wanted to check it out before committing, but was visiting primarily to enjoy drinks outside). We were seated in a horrible new pavilion that was constructed outside with a large bridal party. It was loud and unpleasant and then there was our server who did NOT hide his anger at us asking for the happy hour menu (15 minutes left, not totally unreasonable and we should have been seated with them by the hostess). He actually looked at his watch and said 'I guess I can bring them to you'. It was horribly loud and really dark (no light in this plastic pavilion/gazebo from hell) so even if the menu looked appealing the atmosphere was horrible. The server came back, took our drink order and when we said we weren't going to do food he was angry and stormed away, we even asked if we could move to the bar and he said no... As a former server and a Rumours neighbor I was abhorred by his behavior and will probably not come back. Two stars because Milo was still there and he is an amazing bartender, hang onto him.

This was my second time to have dinner at Rumours East. It was summer and early fall the two times I have been and both times we sat on the lovely courtyard/patio. Both times I enjoyed their seasonal menu items-both appetizers and entree. The desserts looked great but no room either time. They have a good and variable wine list and an interesting list of cocktails. I recommend this restaurant for one, two or a group. They are a little pricey ($30-60 range) but I was full when I left and enjoyed the meal. The strawberry mint gazpacho was unusual and refreshing especially. The pace of the meal and the ambience were worth the price.

On the suggestion of Yelp Nashville's very own, Marcia M., I gave this place a whirl this evening for dinner. I'm going to have to say that I greatly enjoyed the overall experience. The building is one of the refurbished homes in the East End with two fireplaces. Now, we didn't sit near the fireplaces but if you go during the winter (they do accept reservations) and if you like to be uber-warm or just like sitting next to the fire, then by all means you should request to sit next to one of the great fireplaces. If you go in the summer or spring, they look like they have a great patio - but at 37 degrees with winds from the NW at 15mph you could say we decided to forego sitting outside. I'll allow Merritt G. to review her own meal (she's in my friend's section). From the robust wine list, we ordered a $28 bottle of Spanish wine in the 'Red Alternatives' section. There are wine sommeliers and then there are know-nothings. I'm a know-nothing about wine! (Didn't see that comin', did ya?) Yeah, so I thought my alternative red from Spain was pretty damn good. Don't like wine, they had interesting sounding specialty beer brews and interesting sounding mixed drinks (like bourbon with maple syrup... uh, yes, please) that I'd return to try. For a starter, we had a "weekly special" avocado salsa. The avocados were definitely fresh and I could taste a faint bit of the lime juice in the salsa and the red onions in the pico/salsa were not overwhelming. What was underwhelming (and part of the 4 stars) were the chips. They were definitely store bought (it felt, looked and tasted like). In fact, they looked, felt and tasted like private label store brand chips, not even the national brand stuff. Super disappointing given how good the salsa was. For a main dish, I had the sirloin (cooked medium rare) served over Parmesan cheese grits and carmelized onions. The steak was cooked just right and the seasoning was well done - albeit a bit peppery, but I like it like that. I'm spicy! The cheese grits were creamy and the carmelized onions blended well with the Parmesan. A second reason for the 4 stars was the 16oz. (my super rough guess) of shredded lettuce served over the steak and grits. I'm a big fan of greens and momma would be proud that I ate my veggies... but seriously, they coulda put half the amount of lettuce on top as a garnish. Dessert... a meal I rarely partake. I know... I'm weird. I had the day's special of an apple cinnamon crepe with two mini (like 1 ounce) scoops of vanilla ice cream. With crepes, as long as you don't screw up the crepe part, the rest should follow (with good taste) naturally. Rumours East did not screw up the crepe. It was a good dessert, but I probably wouldn't order it again (remember, I'm weird, dessert isn't really my thing). My service was stupendous, and from what I could tell both servers (the only two I could see in the restaurant) were attentive to the customers without being overly hovering servers. They both did a good job, and I like that the hostess was walking around the dining room occasionally to fill people's water glasses. I recommend Rumours East for dinner, and would likely return simply for drinks.

First of all, the patio here rocks! It's definitely one of my favorites in the city. The service has always been great as well. And how can I resist the happy hour? Every day - yes, every single day of the week - from 4-8. $5 cocktails, $6 glasses of wine (don't care about the beer - teehee!), and half price appetizers. The cheese dip is great, although it seems a bit out of place on the menu. The cheese plate is nice, and the only other thing on the menu I've tried is the seafood pasta. It was pretty good too.

The rating says it all... Meh. I've experienced better. I used to love this place (both this location and the 12South one), but after several remodels and "updates" to the menu, not a big fan anymore. The food was fine - used to be better. The atmosphere was totally different than it used to be. Brightly lit, crappy tables. The patio is still awesome, but the "lounge" area in the bar with the oversized chairs is gone. Overall, I'd just rather skip it next time.

Very cool place. I generally enjoy the original location on 12th Avenue (other side of the river) but this one is even better. MUCH bigger, and the atmosphere is laid back. It's a big old house, very roomy--you never feel cramped as you do in the other location. Cool bar too. The best part about Rumours East? The backyard! Fabulous patio, very well landscaped, perfect for sitting around with a good glass of wine and great friends. I have said it before, but I'm not a wine snob, so to me the wine list here is completely fine. Tons of choices--pretty sure it's about the same as the other location. I shared the cheese plate with a friend, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I only take away a star because of its proximity to me--it's in East Nashville, which is across the river from my 'hood, and for some reason I consider that Egypt even though it's a quick 10 minute drive. Definitely worth it though. I'll go back--time and again! Well done on the second location, Rumours.

Great Atmosphere and service. The menu was limited. Sea scallops appetizer was amazing. However my filet was tough and fatty; dont feel like i got my moneys worth on it. I would go back for wine on the back patio but stay away from the filet.

I've been wanting to come here for awhile, and finally found an opportunity for a girls' night out. The manager was very patient with me increasing the number on the reservation a couple times before dinner night. Parked on the street and came into this warm lovely house-turned-restaurant with a table by the fireplace. I love the ambiance of this place- so homey and comfortable, yet still classy enough to feel like it's a special evening. We were promptly served drinks and orders taken. I ordered the gnocci and it was incredible. It was as good as the gnocci I had in Rome, definitely the best I've had here in Nashville. The tomato based cream sauce was flavorful and the gnocci was perfectly cooked. I can't rave enough! The service was wonderful- our waiter was patient with the large group of girls and split our checks for us. Loved it- definitely coming here again!

I started out giving RE three stars, but then I saw that they are classified as a tapas restaurant...which, eh, not so much. There was nothing "tapas" about their menu. They had apps and entrees. Didn't make it to dessert. No fault of theirs, we just had a very tired baby with us. The food was mediocre and very heavy on the salt. The service, however, was excellent. That's all I have to say about that!

I visited this place while visiting with friends in Nashville. What a unique place to sit and chat while drinking good wine and munching on potato wedges. Understand, the food is nothing to write home to mom and dad about. We had potato wedges (the best!), mussels, pork, and seafood pasta. We enjoyed this with the Simonassi Sauv Blanc and the La Puerta Merlot. Bottom line, this place is a good location to enjoy time with friends. Sometimes it's just nice to sit at a table and just enjoy company over a nice glass/bottle(s) of wine!

This place was great! We came here for dinner as recommended by Marcia M. And we weren't disappointed. We started with a "weekly special" of avocado salsa and chips. I thought the salsa was okay, but as David G. mentions in his review, the chips are bad. They must have been store bought; and they just didn't live up to my expectations. I ordered the shrimp and grits for dinner and it was very good. Now, they weren't like most shrimp and grits dishes - there was no tasso gravy, mushrooms, onions, etc. It was literally shrimp and grits. The Parmesan grits tasted very good, albeit a little heavy and more dense then I'm used to. But that's most likely due to the cheese they've selected to use. The shrimp had a great flavor as well. I have a strict rule: if a flourless chocolate cake is offered on the menu then I must order it. Rumour's had two torte's on the menu: chocolate and chocolate almond. I had the chocolate almond and it was good. It was not as moist as I'm used to, but it still was good. Next time I'll probably order the plain chocolate torte with the hopes that it's more moist. We did order and enjoy a cheap Spanish wine. I don't have a sophisticated wine palate, so I stick with the less expensive options! The service was amazing and the ambiance was stellar. Overall, I can't wait to go back!

I'll need to re-review when I go for a full dinner, but we have had apps etc. at the bar a couple times and the food was OK. Nothing great by any stretch of the imagination. But the bar specials are good and well priced, so it's absolutely worth a trip for a cocktail after work. They always have a couple of half price apps to nibble on that are good, and one night a week they do have price flights (which is three or four small tasting pours of wine). LOVE IT. Get to taste a couple different wines for a great price. Service has always been great too.

Better to stay at home and spend $100 on a grocery list for a great new year's meal... He had the ravioli, apple parsnip soup, duck, and the chocolate torte with wine pairings for each course. She had the clams, pear salad, ny strip, and the lemon sabayon (custard pie) with wine pairings for all except the clams. He thought the ravioli tasted luke-warm and left-out, the soup resembled warm apple sauce, the duck delicious, but the sides too vinegary, and the chocolate torte made the meal but did not wow. The wine selections were very average whites with a mediocre port as the finale. She thought the clams were "ok," the salad was "the best," the steak was "bad and charred," and the lemon sabayon was "too sour." [Btw our other guests were also not impressed.] The servers were in short supply and our own fair lady was sometimes short when requests were made, but this is perhaps understandable given how much she had to work her way out of 2011. The tables themselves had a nice touch with new year's blow-outs, hats, noise makers and beads. The bar staff were busy but friendly. Advice for ringing in 2013: stick with regular nights with regular menus for Rumours East. You'll probably experience an exceptional meal, a special time, and relaxed and spirited staff.

This is a really cozy place and I enjoyed my quick visit. My boyfriend and I came in pretty late on a Sunday night - late being around 9:30 or so. We couldn't even believe that they were open since most of the city seems to be shut down on Sunday nights. The place only had 2 customers so it was quiet and the staff was friendly and laid back. They reminded me of hipsters from the Mission in San Francisco just way friendlier - yet another testament of how friendly the locals are. We sat outside and enjoyed a refreshing Chardonnay and Rose. We didn't try the food, but maybe next time I visit we'll come when it's more hopping. Good place to unwind after your Sunday dinner.

I got a sneak preview of Rumours East at last year's Tomato Arts Festival. They weren't yet open for business, but they opened their doors to festival goers to check out the renovations. The bar inside is gorgeous. It's made of curved wood. It looks more sculptural than functional. I made it back for a real visit when my friend took us out with her stimulus check. The back patio is gorgeous. It's a converted house so it feels cozy. Half the back yard is left as that, a yard so it feels like your at a friend's home (only your friend has a stunning patio and a great wine selection). The part of the patio that houses the tables is full of flowers pots and even swings where you can be seated if you're lucky. If you want to take someone on a date, I can't think of a better spot in Nashville for early dinner (so you can catch some sun on the patio) and wine.

I arranged for a birthday dinner for my daughter, who is a student at Vanderbilt University, over the phone and via email (I'm in New York). Adam, the manager, was SO helpful from start to finish. They had a private room, choice of menu and wine, all for a reasonable price. My daughter said it was PERFECT!

This is the most romantic spot I've seen in Nashville. It appears to be a converted house, and once you walk in, it's somewhat dark yet inviting. Red confronts you; not an overwhelming bright red, but a deeper red that could spark a romance. The bar is classy, with tons of great wine obviously (it's a wine bar). Go out back onto the patio, or better yet, sit on the porchswing by the lawn with the foliage surrounding you. Once I get me a sweetie, that's where we're going! I will update this review once I try something off of the ever so tempting menu...

I have mixed reviews about this place but because I have had some really great food and wine there, I feel compelled to give them some props. I will start with some of what I love about it. They have a beautiful outdoor eating space. Perhaps my favorite in Nashville. They have a wonderful selection and most of the time, I am pleased with the food. My challenge with them is that I really am not impressed with their service. It's always slow and I feel inatentive and I just don't think the servers are overly knowledgeable about the menu or what's going on in general with Rumors. It usually takes over two hours to get through dinner and I realize that they are trying to acheive a laid back vibe but this is perhaps too laid back. Anything I have gotten here that involves grilled tuna is great but I got a salad with grilled tuna that was phenomenal due mostly to the dressing. We also were able to get some really great bottles of "dead stock" wine at under $30 a bottle that were wonderful for the price. They host some wine tastings where you meet the wine maker and try several varietals of his/her wines in combination with heavy appetizers from the kitchen. This is a great way to experience wine from very small botique vitnors and learn a little about how about the wine industry as well as taste something very unique. I think it was aroun $50 a person. They do an Email newsletter and this is the best way to keep up with their events as well as special offerings.

Located in a great, old house, Rumours has got a great list of wines and has great ambience. However, we met a group there & I swear I don't remember what we ate. (not because I'd had too much wine, either) The food was just not great. The bill was, though.

Cozy. Friendly staff. Great place to grab a glass of wine and some yummy small plates. Good wine selection and the choices change on occasion, which is nice. Good happy hour specials even on the weekends. Last night had a cheese plate (drunken goat and a local cheddar) and a half-order of mussels for $5 each. Great compliment to my Chilean red blend and my wife's Torrontes.

5 stars for the outdoor patio and wine selection, but the food is nearly inedible. I understand it's under new management though, so maybe the food is better now. The back patio is very, very nice though and one of the few outdoor areas that don't look out over a car park.

A friend & I went to Rumours East on a Tuesday night. I really enjoy trying out restaurants for the first time on a week night. We were seated on the patio, and it was really lovely & quiet. All the other outdoor diners were carrying on conversations, but the good thing was, we couldn't really hear any of them. We also couldn't hear traffic or any annoying noises. It was very plea sent, and felt like we were dining in my own backyard (except I don't have a yard at all). We ordered the roasted red pepper tapenade & the white bean tapenade. Both were very good, but I think my favorite was the roasted red pepper one. I ordered a white win, my friend ordered a red, and we were very pleased with our selections. We also both ordered off the specials, I ordered a VERY good salmon dish, and he ordered a mahi mahi dish. The portions were perfect, and the prices were around $14 each. My friend also ordered the Chocolate Torte, which was divine. I was very impressed with Rumours East, and the curvy bar was absolutely gorgeous. I will definitely be back!

Although the menu is somewhat limited, the offerings are great. I would not choose to dine here if I wanted true Tapas, that is a misnomer. Although the server was very nice, we were a large party and it was too much for one person; including auction-style service. There seemed to be an absence of leadership in the restaurant as there were several very large parties booked that collapsed the dining experience for everyone. The patio is a great place; weather permitting. Don't take the chance as there is not a rain plan should one be needed.

This restaurant is roomier, and a little more upscale, than the Rumours on 12th South. Located in an old, beautiful house, this is a great place to go for dinner with large groups, or just a party of two. Since I do not live in East Nashville I love going over there for an evening and exploring this eclectic side to Nashville. The menu is basically the same as Rumours on 12th, but I think the food is better. The servers display the nightly specials on large chalkboards and explain them to your table. They all sound wonderful. Most are seafood jazzed up. Shrimp and grits, pan seared sea scallops, usually a salmon or sea bass, and some type of beef. I think there is something for everyone here. Like many restaurants are doing these days, they have small plates that are great for sharing. Our table of four ordered four and passed them around. That way we all got to taste the delectable choices that night. Their wine is really, really good. We got a red blend, but the staff is extremely knowledgeable about the wines and can find something you'll like. They will even let you taste so you don't order a glass, or worse, a whole bottle, then be disappointed. Won't happen here! I took a friend of mine visiting from Dallas here and she was most impressed. So was I.

A friend local to the area brought us to Rumours East for a drink. Although we didn't try anything but the olives, she said it was one of her favorite restaurants. We shared a bottle of sparkling wine in the bar area. Friendly staff. Adorable atmosphere. Extensive and fair priced wine selection. If we're back in East Nashville, we'll certainly plan a return trip.

I am confounded by the number of rave reviews here. Food is verrry blah, service is lazy, and decor is embarrassingly 1990's. Jewel-toned walls? Bad art? No thank you. Such a shame, since the building is a super-cool old victorian house. Oh, but they do have good wine! Personally, I'd rather pick up a bottle at the wine shop on Woodland and make my own dang tapenade.

  • Paul H.

This is a decidely average wine bar...I'm not saying that it's bad or great, just average. The wine list featured a number of Spanish reds, which seem to fit the weather. We paired it with a fruit/cheese plate, which was again, average. What I do like about this place is the layout and decor of the rehabbed house they occupy. It's dark and cozy, and a great spot for an intimate glass of wine. Unfortunately, the space is kind of small for all the seats, which takes away from the atmosphere a little. Overall, I'd go back for a quiet night out or for a date. Maybe when the backyard/patio opens back up I'll change my opinions on Rumours.

I finally decided to review Rumors after umpteen visits because I've finally found my groove here. It is a modern urban space inside with a nice bar and two areas indoor for dining. The back patio has tables, swings and a grassy knoll for private parties or lounging if no private party. (some bug spray would be good as it can get pretty nasty on the grass) Nicely lit throughout. We head to the front porch to the table by the door, its a great vantage point of woodland and quiet. Food is unremarkable but completely acceptable, my groove is the shrimp and grits with an Arnold Palmer spiked with vodka, followed by something chocolate like. (cocktails seem to average $11 -pricey for the quality). Some good conversation and maybe a glass of something from the extensive wine list, and we are set. Wine pours do however feel an ounce too light. Service in the past few years has been lamentable but suddenly has got better in the last 6 months. Good space for large parties.

I am a huge fan of the simplicity of Rumours East. I am not even a huge wine fanatic at all, but i still enjoy this place. The back patio is perfect for spending a nice afternoon with friends. Its got a great vide going for it in and out. The food was all very good, and the menu is ever changing, which i think is a good choice to keep people coming back. This place just fits east nashville and I am glad we decided to give this place a shot.

Exceptionally cozy spot. The decor is dark and comfortable with dining areas, a bar(of course), and an exceptional back patio. This is an ideal location for intimate conversation or a gathering of friends. It would even be a good spot to go solo with a book and enjoy a glass or some desert. The wine list is a bit pricey but the variety and quality rank very high. The menu leaves something to be desired but the wine is the main draw and the deserts are typically enjoyable. The location is excellent. The atmosphere is varied and accommodating. This is a very comfortable and welcome addition to the East side.

This is a little overdue since I ate here several months ago, but I wanted to chime in. Love the atmosphere, but food is way overpriced. My friend and I both ordered a scallop salad entree, which we expected to be just that - an entree. It was basically an $18 appetizer. Also, it's never fun to see the bottle of wine you purchased at West End Liquors for $8 the night before listed on the menu for $42. I know that's the price (literally) of going to a bar to drink your wine instead of doing it alone on your couch, but still. But, the icing on the cake was the mouse we saw run across the floor of the restaurant. This place has so much potential; it's really a shame.

It's a fine wine lounge if you are into that. Great atmosphere. Nice bar where you can sip your wine. Go there after you eat dinner for a late night cap. Only bad thing is when they run out of your favorite wine.

Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere! Also, the service was very friendly and accommodating, as we had friends join us mid-meal for a cocktail then leave before the end of our meal. some servers get all bent out of shape about this kind of thing, but ours rolled with it! Thanks, Rumours East!

One of the business organizations that I'm in held their annual Christmas party here this year and I really liked the ambiance. They put us up in the two back rooms, one with seating and a buffet of appetizers and the other with a bar. The food was pretty decent and the drinks were all at happy hour prices for our groups. They even let us choose holiday themed drinks e.g. the Holly Jolly (Champaign and Cranberry) and the Poinsettia (some martini that tasted like apple pie). The happy hour prices were good, but once our time was up we all left because we weren't willing to splurge on their regular prices. I thought the bartenders were great but one of my friends did get overcharged.

I have only been here once and my opinion is mixed. The outdoor patio was very pleasant on the first warm Sunday morning this spring.. so I think thats what is pushing the positives for me on this place... The brunch food was pretty good, too - except that we waited an hour for it to arrive at our table. Thats pretty bad considering we were among the first people to order. The mimosas are big, but expensive... as are the entrees. The wine list was great, but I wasn't drinking wine for brunch. I love the location, I love the interior and exterior of the place... But i didn't like how long it took for my food to arrive, nor the fact that it took the waiter 10 minutes to even acknowledge us. I wouldn't recommend this place for brunch... but it would be a great place to hire for a private function.

I agree with Peter. I was not overly impressed with the 12th S. location, but this is my new favorite bar. I love the intimate feel of the house, the bar itself is gorgeous, and there is a sweet back porch area to visit with friends. Meet up after work for drinks or even for brunch on the weekend for some East Nashville flavour. ; )

Well well well, what a difference a location makes, I guess? Not a fan of the original location on 12 South (cramped, affected, and bad wine experience the one time I went), I did not want to like this place. But, I was sold soon after walking up to the old house, past the well-placed paper lanterns in the trees, and handed a complimentary glass of champagne with ginger at the bottom of the glass (it was the grand opening). This place is a great example of how good lighting and a good layout can contribute to atmosphere. You can sit inside around the fireplace, at the bar, or at traditional restaurant tables, or out back on the patio or back yard --they had a couch and a couple chairs plopped in one corner of the yard, and I encourage them to have more strewn around out there in the future. The tables on the patio were big, sturdy, wooden things and I would have preferred something lighter and smaller --smaller tables = more intimate and better for moving around. Wine was good but outrageuously marked up as it is anywhere (I need to get over that) and the dessert was satisfying (crunchy tart had enough substance to be paired by itself with the Chenin Blanc). Wine list was not exhaustive but covered a lot of categories and had a few surprises (one from China I remember). Similarly, the food menu had a good assortment of snacks appropriate for wine pairing. Service was spotty but that should improve with time and working the kinks out. Overall, great contribution to the neighborhood.

Couldn't say enough great things about this place. The ambiance is a dark, low lit vibe. It's an amazing date spot or a great place to have a private dinner with friends. Highly recommended.

Rumours is under new management. Their new menu looks fantastic, but I have to take away two stars because they tax their drinks on the outside. Nashville, NO! Stop! Please do not tax on the outside! Put the tax on the drink price!!! THIS IS INSANE!!!!! I can't. I don't even know. When you have a happy hour and you say your drinks are $6, they should be $6. We were charged $9 in taxes on the outside. What a scam! For people who are watching their money this changes things. A lot! Just make your happy hour $7 a drink if you are going to do this. The other option, which I do not recommend, is put on the menu that you are going to tax drinks on the outside. You need to alert people of this. It is not the norm. I'm sorry TN liquor taxes are stupidly expensive, but do not take it out on your customers!!!!! Ugh, ugh. This makes me so sad. I did not want to have to leave this review, but people need to know. It's the ole bait and switch. This makes me double sad because they have one of the nicest patios in Nashville and they are kind enough to leave bug spray out. It's going to take some time to move past this. Sorry Rumours.

Ive never eaten here, only drank here and I love doing that. They have the best wine menu in Nashville, and craft cocktails are limited but when you get one its super awesome and delicious. Very cool small place with original wood floors and great outdoor seating. Most of all I love just meeting a girlfriend up there and gabbin' about the boys. The servers give you space and keep the wine a comin' One of my favorite local businesses in East Nashville. Support it!

I'm not sure how this place has 4.5 stars. One of the most disappointing meals I've ever had. To start, our waitress' attitude was bizarre. She sauntered up and said "our cocktails are super good. Like all of them. Look over it. Let me know". And left. No real suggestions. No direction. Nothing. We stuck with our water and went straight for dinner. Our waitress continued with her blasé attitude and said "what do you want?".... I went with the Gnocchi with arugula pesto. My husband got the pulled pork shoulder with compound butter and greens. Our food came pretty quickly. My gnocchi was nothing to write home about and nothing to even write a review about. Bland. Boring. Tasted like mushy arugula. No flavor. My husbands good has great flavor but was piled up on each other. Grits or potato then cooked collards then pork shoulder then butter. It was all warm mush together. Again - good flavor but a bizarre choice for a summer menu. It was comfort food and the combination allowed the pork to shine. The components could not stand on their own and were simply vessels to carry the meat to your mouth. Sigh. We spent over $50 for a terrible dinner with boring service. We won't be back. Which is sad because the garden is lovely and the location is perfect.

Free valet parking is nice. The space is lovely. The courtyard is amazing. The cocktails were great. The menu reads well. The execution of said menu was less than great. And the prices are through the roof. I would not eat here again.

Went out for a nice dinner with some girl friends and first of all, I'm surprised we got a reservation same day and I'm glad we made reservations because I saw them turn away some walk ins. That being said they didn't get a 5 star because they constantly had open tables....on a Saturday night when they were turning people away....what!?!?! We showed up early and we were constantly confused and wondering why there were open tables but they couldn't seat us. Maybe its some thing about giving off an exclusive, hard to get into vibe or something, who knows. The restaurant is in an old house and I loved the fireplace and hardwood floors. There is a little bit of outdoor seating but it was too cold to enjoy for our visit. As far as ambiance goes...great for a date night or to dress up a little and go out with the girls. As we waited we relaxed on the couches at the front of the restaurant and enjoyed some wine and the meat and cheese appetizer which was very tasty. The waiter was nice but I can't say he was very attentive... not sure if it was because we were in the waiting area but they told us to order drinks and apps while we wait so it's not like we were asking for things they weren't offering. The water and drink refills could have been more frequent but it was okay since we were really just there to relax and not rush. Once we were finally seated we all ordered entrees pretty quickly but the food took a long time to arrive. Our server was very friendly, was able to answer all of our menu questions and made sure to check on us throughout the meal to make sure we were taken care of. Unfortunately I don't' remember what we ordered but i can attest that everyone has very different tastes in food and we all enjoyed what we got. It wasn't a cheap evening by any means but a great time and I would visit again.

Absolutely perfect dinner experience. Came here with my fiancé, mom, and brother late on a Saturday evening (around 10pm). We were seated promptly by the host who was the most spectacularly friendly woman I've ever met. Seriously, this woman could win an Olympic gold medal for cheerful small talk and sharp wit. Our server, Ian, was incredible. He had a personality and was able to crack jokes and riff with us but still knew his stuff. My fiancé has a serious tree nut allergy and Ian already knew which items were a no go and assured us he'd double check anything we ordered. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. We were seated on the back patio on a steamy summer night and while it was a little on the muggy side it was still totally enjoyable. The strung lights made the atmosphere feel very cozy. Hands down the best dining experience I've had in Nashville and one of the more memorable overall. 10/10 would eat again.

The food here was very disappointing compared to many many other nashville options. It was pricey, and it was not memorable. Specifically, I ordered the prowl shoulder, and it was really just dry pulled pork. Very disappointing. Also, they had been on the list for nashville restaurant week, which is why I tried the restaurant to begin with. When we got there, the waitress said they were no longer participating, and she did not offer to remedy the situation. I would not return.

Cute little cozy house in the five points area with a beautiful backyard. Great place to go when the weather is nice outside to sit in the yard. The dishes are creative and tasty. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Highly recommend!

What a gorgeous place! A wine bar in a historical home, can it get any better than this? Upon entering, I admired the pocket doors, hardwood floors, and dimly lit-interior. The front two rooms lend themselves well to private dining (for your party of 4-20, I'd say) and the bar area is as inviting as it gets. Although all outdoor seating was occupied, I couldn't help but go out and admire the fairy and torch-lit backyard, as well as the lovely porch area. I hope to be able to come back and sit outside one day, though next time I'll be sure and make reservations. I didn't even glance at the food menu this visit, so I can't comment on that. There's a fair selection of wines by the glass and I loved the Tempranillo. Our server was naturally very well-informed about wine and was able to recommend the least sulfite-heavy variety to my friend which was also excellent. Two-glass excellent - I didn't want to leave!

Went here for my birthday dinner, got the gyoza appetizer which was fried which we were not expecting (it's usually steamed?) but was still good. Swordfish entree was amazing as was the scallops. The decor and vibe of the place is awesome. Came back two nights later for dessert because it sounded so good!

With the strewn lights in the backyard, wonderfully creaky wooden floors and charming East End house, there's little doubt that Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie and the rest of Fleetwood Mac would feel at home at Rumours -- maybe just keep them away from all the wine. And that's okay, because that means there's more for me! I have heard whispers and rumors (hyuck!) about the wondrous food program here and I'll have to come back and try it. But based on wine list and atmosphere alone, I'm a fan. Woodland is one of my favorite streets on the east side and I love how it changes character depending on which neighborhood it is in which you experience it. Here, the Victorian bones of this restored home invite you to explore every nook and cranny. Better yet, they implore you to sit, have a glass of something and enjoy some conversation with a friend. For the length of my stay at Rumours, I felt as though I was at a friend's home, rather than a restaurant. That's high praise. My friend and I sat by the bar in the back room. We thought about drinking outside but decided to pass on the opportunity at the time. In case you have FOMO from eating/drinking inside, rather than out, don't. Our table was comfortable, our view from the window was nice and being so close to the bar made service a breeze. Our waiter, Ron, took great care of us. I am a beer lover and cocktail enthusiast but that night I was in the mood for some vino. Rather than feeding us a bunch of bull, Ron gave us constructive feedback on which wines were best suited for us, based on particular tastes and what we were looking for in a glass. He knows his stuff and he helped me find a wonderful red for sipping and conversation that wasn't too spicy or too flat and that wouldn't give me heartburn. Sounds like a pain in the ass customer, right? Well, I figured if I was going to ask an expert, I was going to ask an expert! Ron came through in a big way and found the perfect glass -- which turned in to two. And, if we hadn't had to leave, would have turned in to many more. Patio weather is back and I can't wait to return. After all, I have beer, cocktails and food to try. And, a back yard in which to sit. Here's to spring!

I loved my experience at Rumours East and I will return when I find myself in Nashville again. It was a lovely day and we sat outside in their adorable backyard that made you feel like you were dining at a friend's house. We started with the cheese plate with 5 cheeses which were all delicious. My server recommended a great wine. I ordered the scallops on special and my dinner companion ordered the beef stroganoff stew. Both were delicious. Service was great though I requested another glass of wine when our entrees were served and when it still hadn't arrived when I was taking my last bite, I ended up canceling the order. Otherwise, all was good.

Do not go here. The food was served cold and although we had reservations we got seated in the bar area. Not in the nice part of the restaurant the waitress said they save the four tops in that area for tables of four. Not s good experience Not sure why people rate it high. Again. Do not go there unless you are in the know somehow

A good martini and a beautiful setting but the menu left EVERYTHING to be desired. I went with a couple of girlfriends and planned on eating light, and although I hesitated at the $9 price tag for a vegetable only salad, I assumed I'd at least get something of quality. What I received were a pile of raw vegetables, bibb lettuce with the slightest drizzle of balsamic vinegar, no flavor, no creativity. My friends ordered the bahn-mi which seemingly used Pilsbury frozen biscuits. 3 small bahn-mis, $10. Finally, we sent back the "tiger shrimp" as they were small, frozen shrimp from a carton, with a splattering of some pretty terrible wasabi cocktail sauce. Presentation was messy and quite sad. I understand this location is now under new management, I only hope improvements are soon made. It is a fine piece of real estate to go to waste.

Decent dinner locale posted up in an older home in East Nashville. I like the eclectic and cozy environment, but it's small... the saving grace is a great outside seating area in the backyard. Really ethereal and welcoming. Menu is ehh--we've eaten there for Restaurant Week (special menu) on two separate occasions and the food was amazing (although, unfortunately I can't recall specifics). Wine selection is great. Service was decent. Dessert is good. Went in another couple of times and felt the menu was fairly limited and a little overpriced. Great place to sample, and say you've been there, probably wouldn't make my top 10 (or even 20) in Nashville.

This review is for the night of Saturday August 8th. I was with a party of 7 people and although I was one of the first to order my order did not come with the rest. By the time I received my food everyone but one person was finished with their meal. The only reason that person was not finished was because we had to wait for someone to finally bring him a spoon for the soup he ordered. The only reason I was given was there was a mi up in the kitchen. When someone, I assume from kitchen or management, brought my food to me I still did not receive a reason or even an apology. In addition, no one even came over to ask if everything was ok so I didn't have the opportunity to let them know my steak had been overcooked. Of course since they didn't even feel a need to apologize then they certainly didn't offer to discount anything for the mistake. Waiting for my meal resulted in me being late for a show that night so I didn't have time to try to discuss the matter with anyone...not that anyone seemed available to hear (or interested in hearing) about it. Food was good and atmosphere was great but not enough to make me want to go back.

On a whim we decided to stop by for a drink. We felt so welcome there that we ended up getting a bottle of wine and a charcuterie platter. The chef came out and explained the cheeses which were all so good and unique! We really had a great experience and the staff was super nice!

I wish more than anything that I could give this place 5 stars because the food was phenomenal, but I'm taking a star due to mediocre (at best) service. Our drinks, which were ordered promptly, came out five minutes after our appetizers. I'd estimate it took 20-25 minutes from ordering our drinks until they were brought to the table. We also went with empty glasses and our waiter was no where to be found. He also did not know what wines were sold out. We ordered not one bottle, but two...but he came back to the table 10 minutes later (on both occasions) to say the wine was sold out. He did not know the cheese & meat plate items and could only identify 75% of what was on the board. But alas, the food shines so brightly that I could not bare to give this place less than 4 stars. The fried artichoke appetizer is a winner and was enjoyed by everyone at the table. The cheese & meat plate was a great way to start the meal and contained a nice selection. Onto the main course - I had the scallops and they were perfectly cooked and came on a chorizo/fava bean succotash. Delicious. My brother & dad had the duck (which I tasted), it was impressive and paired well with the pumpkin risotto.y brothers fiancée had the pork chops (served crown style) and they were charred just enough to give a bit of crunch - also paired beautifully with sides. My mother had the grouper with roasted cauliflower. It was tasty, but my least favorite of the dishes on the table. As for deserts, we were underwhelmed by the apple tart. It is quite small in portion size and the filling was just mehhh. We also had two slices if the seasonal carrot cake. It was tasty but definitely more of a spice cake than a carrot cake. It was very brown in color and there was no visible indication of carrot in this dish. We had two of the craft cocktails, of which I can't remember the names. One was a whiskey base and had "three" in the name. It was smokey - so if you're not into that flavor, stay clear of this one. We also had one with tequila, which was enjoyed by my brothers fiancée. Both were very stiff sippers. All in all, I woke up this morning thinking about our meal last night. The next time I find myself in Nashville, I will certainly be back.

Stuffed from our meal at Lockeland Table, we decided to walk off a little of our dinner. The guy manning the pizza oven at LT pointed us in the right direction and we were off. Rumors East wasn't our intended destination per se, it wasn't even on our radar, but after seeing the patio lights from the street, we knew we had to stop in. There are no places with patios like this in Chicago (if I'm mistaken, please let me know). Rumors East occupies a converted home; there are lots of little rooms for dining, the bar, etc. While quaint, the patio is the jewel of the place. Part stone patio, part grassy yard, it's kind of like heading over to someone's home. The tables are spread pretty far apart (another thing you don't see in Chicago), making it a perfect place for a date or intimate conversation. We sat on the stone patio, right on the edge of the lawn and enjoyed the beautiful evening. We only stayed for a drink, but could've easily passed the night away kicking back on the patio under the lights and stars. While I can't speak for the food, Rumors East is a great drinks destination.

Their backyard patio is fairy princess magical. For anyone who has ever seen Matilda. Its absolutely where Ms. Honeywell would live. I could definitely see myself growing gardenia bushes and collecting lawn gnomes in that yard. Just imagine patio chairs, fire pits, and fireflies. Ah. Magical. But anyway, who actually who cares about that (besides me). Let's just talk about their wine. I honestly cannot attest to how their food is... although my friend K ordered the hummus and it was displayed beautifully. Not too shabby for $4. Now if it were 8+, it best be served on organic teak wood from the D.R. Congo. Anyway, lets review a few happy hour facts. Wednesday is $2 off all glasses of wine. Reasonable deal. We were recommended some Rose' and Vino Verde that were really good. (Both can actually be purchased at most wine stores for a very reasonable price). However, I would whole heartedly say that the ambience was worth the price. We never felt rushed and our waiter was fantastic. It is also worth noting that if you have pheromones that bring all the bugs to the yard... please bring bug spray. Us girls will certainly be back. Most likely on a sunday when if you order 2 entrees, you get 50% off bottles of wine.

Hands down our favorite meal while visiting Nashville. We were tired of the chains around touristy Broadway street and wanted something fresh and unique. Took a 10 min cab ride from downtown and arrived at a cozy restaurant with great ambiance. The cocktails were amazing -- great bar program and the food was incredible. We got the Thai peanut soup to start with and then for entrees we got the scallops with succotash and the raw beet, radish and carrot salad drizzled with garlic oil and white balsamic reduction. Some of the most beautiful plates of food we've had in a long time. Will be back next time we are in town.

Surprisingly, I didn't really like it. I've eaten here several times and it used to be really really good food. But the past 2 times I've eaten there the food is just so-so. The portions are really small and I haven't had the "WOW!" Factor with anything I have eaten the past few times. I do think the atmosphere, the wine, and the staff are awesome!! But for as expensive as it is, I either want something that taste amazing or at least fills me up. Just my opinion.

Have dined here around 4 times. Food - consistently very good. Have tried a couple of different things on the menu and have not been disappointed. Small portions, so a good place to take advantage of the appetizers. Many people have commented on the portion sizes. I think they are appropriate for this type of dining experience. Service - friendly, prompt. One waitress really went out of her way to take a nice picture of me and my girlfriend. Took her a bit to get a good one. Atmosphere - I have dined inside and outside. Not too loud, low lighting. Seems like a good date spot for a date. The outdoor patio is really nice. If the weather is nice, take advantage. Consider bugspray for mosquitos.

Decided to stop here for a drinkie poo at happy hour. I rarely visit any of the local water holes for drinking as much as I do for eating and entertaining. Stopped here for happy hour and Nick was manning the bar. He made me some delicious mojitos that were perfectly sweet and cold. The bar was quiet. The restaurant was filling up. I also ordered an appetizer so that the mojito wouldn't go to my head, so quickly. I got the fried artichoke hearts on black bean puree for $10. It was good, but skimpy. For $8 I can get a huge thingy of fried artichoke hearts with tartar sauce, in Salinas California! Imagine my surprise at the little tiny dish... BUT...... it was good, nonetheless.. Drinks were good. Was still hungry.

Quiet eclectic environment in the five points district of East Nashville. I have frequented here several times throughout the year and I enjoy the laid back atmosphere and quiet tables. During the summer the back patio is excellent for brunch and the food and Bloody Mary selection is terrific. I have eaten several dishes here and never leave disappointed. Located in an historical home this is a perfect first date location.

This place is definitely one of my new Nashville favorites. I'm usually not an East Nashville kind of person and I especially am not fond of hipsters, so I went in having some preconceived notions. The staff was very kind and attentive, and I never once got the hipster "I'm better than you because I'm a hipster" vibe. The overall ambience was absolutely fantastic, not to mention our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about every single detail on the menu and he was also quite easy on the eyes ;-) The food: the cheese plate was filled with top notch artisan cheeses that left me wanting more cheese! I ordered the mussels and hands down, the best mussels I have had anywhere! Sometimes you know, you get those weirdo ones that are still gritty and kind if chewy. Not these, they melted in your mouth and the sauce was simply divine! My friend and I ordered dessert which was a blueberry and walnut flan type deal with caramel. It was so great that she had to order her own! Great experience here and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

This place is insanely overpriced and the portion sizes are absurd. I ordered a ricotta cheese salad with fried rice and I was presented with three slices of tomato with a dollop of ricotta cheese, and the "fried rice" was sprinkled over the top. If you enjoy a place for the atmosphere rather than food options, this is your place. The restaurant is lovely, the food options are atrocious.

Rumors East has the best backyard and outdoor space in town. Incredibly romantic and perfect for summer nights. So it breaks my heart to write this review, but after two terrible experiences I had to say something. The change in chefs took away a lot of the favorite dishes (ex: to-die-for shrimp & grits) from the menu and ever since I have not been a fan of the food. The portions are smaller and extremely over priced. A glass of wine, kale salad, and cheese plate should not be over $50 for a dinner meal. I left sad and hungry. We won't be going back.

Let me say outright that the drinks/bar get four stars from me, easy. I've had drinks here twice and been really impressed with their selection and quality. This is only important to any vegetarians out there, but their tomato mix used in Bloody Marys or Red Snappers is free of anchovies, which can be hard to come by. They have basically every wine I've heard of, and the bartenders are pretty knowledgeable. The food I'd only rate three stars.. I know many of their ingredients are locally sourced and organic, so I don't mind paying a little more for their food. But all three dishes that my party ordered were tiny, in addition to pricey. The simplistic menu might have been a little under-informative about what each dish entailed (ie- Watermelon Salad with pickled cucumber included ONLY a handful of watermelon cubes and four slivers of cucumber). Just ask a lot of questions if you decide to eat here ;)

Went here for New Years Eve, and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. I hear "remodeled Victorian" and automatically think "cramped and awkward". Though it is a small restaurant, it was more than functional, and I thought the design and decor made excellent use of the dining space. The bar looked like a cozy place to get a drink, although I didn't have the opportunity this time around. I will note that the parking situation worked out great (close, on-street), although I fully acknowledge this may not be the case for non-early birds, residential roads being what they are. I did the NYE menu, which you would naturally expect to be limited + overpriced, and it was. Not that the $55 prix fixe was unreasonable for the occasion; in fact, it was the least expensive option I could find. But the pairings (4) were $35 extra, and the portions were definitely on the small side. As a comparison, a recent meal at the nearby Lockeland Table was similar in price and quality, yet must have been 3x the amount of food. Granted, I didn't go to LT on a holiday, and the menu there skews more traditional than contemporary, but a night at Rumours East will likely conclude with you digging in your pantry when you get home. The food itself was really excellent, and though pricey, the pairings were enjoyable as well. Since it was a one-off menu, maybe it's pointless to recount specific dishes, but I thought the (literally bite-size) fried quail and pilaf was a stand-out. Our dessert disappointed -- the torte was great, but not what my wife expected; hardly Rumours' fault. My carrot cake was pretty dry, though I did eat every bite, so it clearly wasn't offensive. I hope my comment to our server wasn't either, I just thought dessert didn't hold up to the otherwise lovely meal. Rumours East would still be in the "special occasion" category for me, but I might not be so afraid to snack in advance.

Low-key place in Nashville. The menu is a bit overpriced considering the food isn't as good as other restaurants in Nashville at that price. The food here is very basic... Long, delicious sounding descriptions on the menu, but the recipes are actually very simple. Cheese plate is just ok. Decent wine selection but not a terribly knowledgable staff. Nice staff, however. The decor and ambiance are great! If I could I would have given 3.5 stars.

Great Wine Selection! I love that you could get half pours of wine! There were so many to choose from that I couldn't decide on just one. The half pours make it possible to try more wine and there is a large selection. They had several French and Italian varieties which are my favorite wine making countries. We started with the Mediterranean plate for our appetizer. Great hummus, red pepper tapenade, and olives to begin the meal. I had the skirt steak for my entree. I'm not sure what the green sauce was on top of it but it was very good. The restaurant is beautiful on the inside. We were seated in the bar area so I could see the beautiful area just outside the back door. It looked like the perfect setting for a small event. Service was great and this will be one of our go to places when we are shopping nearby.

Absolutely charming! Love the niché French country outsider seating! We had a bottle of wine and appetizers. Service above par, location all bells and whistles. Took a star for the salmon bruschetta appetizer. Seemed great in concept, lacking in functionality. The spice, crunch, and salmon could have been better placed. Bravo on everything else!

After driving around Nashville for about 30 minutes looking for a place that was open on a Sunday night, my friend had an epiphany, asked if I liked seafood and shot over to Rumours East. Now this should have been my kind of place- historic old home that was renovated to be a classy little restaurant, beautiful patio in the back complete with plenty of heaters to extend the season and a fascinating curved bar that made me just want to hop up on a stool and spend the hours sipping wine and catching up with friends. They also use an interesting wine keeper system that keeps the wine fresh and at just the right temperature until it is poured. All sounds great, right? That's what I thought. But there was no room at the bar for us, and I was a little worried that it would be too cold to sit outside (my mistake) so we were seated in what probably used to be the living room of this old house. Now they have done a nice job with the space- with hardwood floors, contemporary furniture and an exposed brick fireplace. But given how the rooms flow- we ended up being seated alone in one room- the fireplace was not lit and it felt like we were at the "kids table" at a family dinner. Not exactly what we were going for. And when the menus came- know this. On Sunday nights, the chef apparently "tries out" some new things so the menu is VERY limited to those 4 or 5 things and any of the things you had a taste for that brought you to Rumours East are not available. The other mistake we made was asking where all the seafood was that the other Rumors restaurant has (there is one over on 12th ave). We were rather rudely told that "this Rumours and that Rumours were not affiliated" by the manager. Okay. Our mistake . . .but did you have to be rude about it? Maybe suggesting why this Rumours was a good choice for us would have been a better plan? Needless to say, with the limited menu, the manager who made us feel bad and the "kids table" seating, we left to find a place that was a little more welcoming. But the next time I am in Nashville, I am going to give this place another try for their regular menu looks good and all the positive reviews here on Yelp count in my book. But it definitely won't be on a Sunday night . . .and I am going to stay far away from that manager. He obviously missed class on the day they taught customer service!
