Looking for something to eat in or around East Nashville is apparently kind of challenging on Mondays - several places are closed. Add to that the fact that it's Labor Day and suddenly the options shrink. We went a little further in search of something and saw Las Maracas from the road. It looked busy so we decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is quaint if not inspiring. The service, however is attentive and polite. Very good service here. The free chips and salsa tasted fresh - moreso than they looked, actually. We ordered the Parrillada for two (the double) because we were hungry and wanted variety. Good gravy that's a lot of food for $22. Like, it fed us both and we ate the rest for breakfast the next morning. The chorizo was great and the carnitas (pork) were also really tasty. The steak, chicken and shrimp were good as well. Nothing on the plate was less than good. The rice that came with it was a bit under seasoned, but the beans were tasty. If you've been to this place and given it a poor rating for its food, you're either unfortunate and got it on a very bad night, or you don't know how Mexican food should actually taste. It's almost never spicy, doesn't use much cheese and skews towards fresh. This seemed to check all those boxes. Would eat here again, and would order the same thing.

The Las Maracas on Gallatin is right down the street from me, so this is my usual go-to place for Mexican food. Honestly, though, if you're craving more authentic food, I recommend going to Cocina Mexicana in Five Points (which also has a lovely patio, but unlike Las Maracas, Cocina's patio is shaded from the direct sun). The service at Las Maracas is quick and friendly. However, the parking situation at the Gallatin location can be hectic during busy times. If you're craving Las Maracas but want a quieter atmosphere, their alternate location is just up the road across Briley Parkway.

Super solid tex-mex, cheap beer, and a great patio to sit on in nice weather. What more can you ask for? I have eaten at Las Maracas quite a few times, all the way back to the old location and I have never had a bad meal. I highly recommend the Papitas Mexicanas. It is a bed of crinkle cut fries, covered in fajitas, a meat of your choice, and then doused in gooey cheese. Only way this dish could be better is if it had shoestring fries instead of the thicker crinkle cut fries.

Still the best Mexican restaurant in Nashville! Good food, good BIG beers, and great prices. Patio is a great place to hang out with amigos.

I had a couple of people recommend this restaurant, but after having eaten here...I have no idea why. In my opinion, it's just a typical Mexican restaurant. Definitely not worth driving a long way.

Great family option in East Nashville, especially if you don't want to wait. Double orders of fajitas will satisfy 2+ for dinner. Had the chicken, shrimp, steak combo fajitas. Came with rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, tortillas & salsa. Great service. Nothing special in the way of decor, just good Mexican food reasonably priced.

I am trying to post pictures of the menu, but I don't see a way to do it. The menu options look great and I hear the food is close to authentic Mexican instead of American Mexican.

We love Mexican food. This place has killer fajitas and even better rice! I normally never eat the rice when I get Mexican. Nothing will ever beat local taco for us, but if we want tacos or fajitas and want to mix it up we come here. The food and service is way better than Rosepepper. The staff are always curious and we have never had a bad meal here.

I read some of the reviews and I'm glad my husband and I tried this place beforehand. We just moved to Nashville and Las Maracas is practically across the road from our house. We were immediately seated on a Wednesday night around 5:30. Everyone was really friendly and FAST (Seriously, our entrees came out in less than 5 minutes). We liked the chips and salsa. $2.99 12oz margaritas?! YES PLEASE. We also thought those were tasty and I'm not even a huge fan of margs. I ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos from the specials menu. Hubs ordered the spinach burrito and added grilled peppers and onions. His came with rice and beans. We both really enjoyed our meals. The sauce that came on the side for the tacos was really spicy. I liked it because the tacos needed something, but I was wiping my nose. The avocados on the tacos were fresh. Sure it's not authentic Mexican food, but it's much better than I could do at home. We loved this place and it will definitely be our new, cheap Mexican go-to!

5 stars to the servers. They are always friendly and happy. 4 star for the salsa. 1 star for the food. It's mediocre at best. Everything is covered in cheese dip and the margaritas are full of sugar and from a mix. Although the patio is nice, when there isn't a large party of scantly clad, LOUD women throwing a birthday party, it's covered in the winter and smoking is allowed. :( I wish there was a better alternative when I want Mexican but don't want to go to Rose Pepper.

Love this place! I have never gotten a bad meal there the drinks are great and so is the service!

  • Josh H.

Don't waste your time here. The salsa was below average. My chile Colorado was tough, bland, and swimming in some sort of watery excuse for a sauce. For what I actually received, I thought the price tag was too high (over $10). The refried beans were straight from a can, but the rice was pretty decent and fluffy. I will say that the staff seemed pretty friendly, but my server wasn't able to make any specific menu recommendations. Ultimately, restaurants are only as good as the food that they serve, and it's just not good at Las Maracas.

  • Shaina L.

I love the patio in nice weather! We usually get queso and enchiladas. Cheap, tasty, standard Mexican-American food. Service is always excellent.

Still on the hunt for good Mexican food since moving from the Promise Land (Texas) we drove past Las Maracas and noticed that most of the people eating on the deck were Hispanic ( always a good sign). So we whipped the car around to give this place a try. First off the chips and salsa were delicious! We ordered off the lunch menu and the prices were so cheap! The Hubs ordered chicken enchiladas and I had food envy. The queso sauce they put on top was to die for! Paired with their fresh and subtle Mexican rice , I wish I had ordered his dish. I ordered the Carne Asada quesadilla , tasty but it's hard to find an amazing cut of carne Asada. All in all, this place was a nice escape , best Mexican food since moving from Texas and might be our new local Mexican restaurant!

  • John T.

Too loud for my taste, and the food wasn't spicy enough for Mexican. I like my Mexican to have more flavor. Families seem to love it here. Lots of birthday parties happening the Sunday I went. All in all it was OK but I wouldn't drive to the other side of town to eat there.

Made a spontaneous decision for a late Monday lunch stop, when we found Las M. Convenieny parking is located behind the buildinh. They feature standard Mexican-American fare. We ordered the Chimichanga platter and the Enchilada-Burrito-Tamale combo. The Chimi outshined its neighbors, partly due to its white cheesy sauce covering. The combo shared the same red chili sauce, which was good-not-great and tended to blend all the flavors. Next time ordering a combo, think about alternating the white and red sauces.

  • Chad P.

Personally, this is one of my favorite places for a quick semi-authentic Mexican meal. Make sure to order the spicy salsa if you're into the heat! Also, the tacos de carnitas is off the charts, along with tacos de carne asada. This may be the fastest restaurant in Nashville.

Good margaritas and pretty good food. They serve really fast and hot mexican food for an inexpensive price.

  • Derek E.

I've only been here once but was fairly impressed. My wife and I shared the double order of steak fajitas, good flavor and definitely more than enough for two people. The service was alright, not bad, not great. I like the food here better than rosepepper, while the atmosphere at the latter is better. I like this place.

Awesome margaritas and SUPER cheap. My friend got the chuy special and it was fantastic. Attentive service and there is an outdoor patio. Great if you want to grab a drink after work.

Good Happy Hour. Pretty standard American Mexican fare. Nothing to write home about. I do enjoy going for a drink here with friends when I want something quick. They have a great patio area. You are allowed to smoke on the patio so don't go out if smoke bothers you. The servers are always nice and they are quick and efficient.

Just another one of your standard Nashville Mexican Restaurant. They must all go and learn the the same way. Guac what was that funky green stuff!!! Cheap special for lunch, but really not all that special.

  • Tripp E.

I go to maracas frequently for discounted margaritas. I can't tell you what the deal is but basically sun-thurs the margs are cheap. I don't come here unless it's a cheap marg night. I'm on a first name basis with a few servers, upppp just added one more to that list! The food is basic $8 price point Mexican. I like upgrading to the a la carte tacos to fish for $1/extra each. They also have the California style fish taco plate as opposed to the regular fish tacos and I think that is no additional charge (it's not on the menu). I'm ALWAYS happy when I am at Las Maracas and I feel like the kindness and graciousness of the management and servers are the main reason why.

Having moved to Nashville from Chicago, I find myself missing Mexican food often. Now that I live on the east side, I go to Las Maracas when the cravings start. Not 100% authentic, but definitely a step in the right direction. Besides, there's usually a pretty enticing drink special going on. I've never had to wait for a table, even on a Friday night. The complimentary chips and salsa are fresh (warm chips!!) and delicious. Refills are generous. Service is friendly and oh so speedy. Amazed at the efficient turnaround in getting food to tables, we recently set a timer for fun after ordering our entree, and the food seemed to be running a little later than usual. When we checked it, only 6 minutes had passed! It was no surprise that our meal was out within the minute. These guys are quick. Food is reasonably priced and cooked to order. Portion sizes are generous, which is great for groups on a budget. Couples looking to save a few dollars can easily get away with ordering the fajitas for one and having leftovers to take home. The patio is heated in the winter, as the plastic windguards are up--it makes summer feel not so far away! Las Maracas seems to appeal to a wide variety of Nashvillians, and I enjoy dining here with my community. Given that this and Rosepepper are the two main options for Mexican-inspired food in East Nashville, Las Maracas wins in every category. Hands down.

  • Kyle H.

Living in East Nashville, this has become our "go to" place when we want something to eat that's not really expensive but filling. There's nothing about Las Maracas that will place it above your typical Mexican restaurant however, it's consistently fast and filling.

  • Dante' T.

My favorite cheap Mex... I crave the California Fish Tacos (I always sub corn taco shells for the flour)! Flavorful grilled fish, pico de gallo, and avocado, what's not to love?

  • Adele J.

Really great food, amazing service, frozen margueritas yummy. Had the shrimp chimichanga, oh God was that good. Place is very clean, used to go to Rosepepper, not anymore. The prices were amazing for a really good dinner with drinks!

This is my favorite "cheap" mexican restaurant around town. Don't even try and get me to go to Las Palmas - gag o' maggot! The staff is friendly, fast and efficient. Good salsa! They have insane drink specials. Their frozen house margaritas are SO good. I think they put OJ in them... yum! Most of the time I just get a 32oz Yuengling for $3 when I'm trying to be "healthier." Lush? Maybe. My go-to entrees are the spinach enchiladas or their fajitas especial.

The best part of this whole evening was that we ordered a pitcher of Margaritas and some food and really were able to linger over our evening. Our waiter was very patient with us and not intrusive, and we really appreciated it. We sat in the outdoor seating, which is a bit noisy on a busy road, but very relaxed. Best salsa ever! Now, I say this from the perspective of a person who does not like a lot of heat. This salsa was flavorful, but not spicy. That's a big plus in my book. We ordered the large guacamole appetizer and it was very tasty. Three a la carte items, an appetizer and a pitcher of Margaritas for three of us came to $37. Need I say more?! Really fun evening. Darned good food. Life is good!

For Nashville's Eastside, this place shakes the maracas like no other! Having been here once to eat in and once for carryout, I have had nothing but full-belly success. Ok, I rate the quality of a Mexican food on two things, the quality of the queso (cheese dip) and the knock-your-socks off effect of the house margarita. Well, in my book, I'm betting that these two items will give you smiles for miles. Honestly, I went nuts both times and ordered over $30 worth of food. When you can get a speedy lunch combo or combo plate for $6-$11, you bet I had some serious eats. Everything was fresh. I liked how I ordered roasted jalapenos and they came just how I asked. Also, the beans and rice are proportioned perfect for the matching items. I don't like getting 2/3 a plate rice and beans with my food. The staff are quick and nice. They keep the water flowing and like to remind you that your margarita needs to be refilled. I have only sat outside on the deck. Very cool to be right by so much crazy action (Gallatin Road). Well, what are you waiting for? Do some belly stretching exercises. cause, it'll save your wallet with the decent prices and quantity. Get some!

Food was good as always. Made the mistake of sitting outside though. Wanted a nice leisurely dinner and was rushed by flies constantly buzzing around. Ten they sit a smoking table by me too. Yuck. :( I'll know better next time.

LOVE the the fajitas and margaritas. Great service and staff as well. I've been going here for a long time and I find the food to be very authentic tasting. Always a good time on the patio with a group of friends. I highly recommend this place

Margaritas have been on my mind so when the the massive patio at Las Maracas beckoned me on Saturday night....I gave in. We met another couple of friends there and were a little disappointed that there was a wait to sit on the patio but made do with out booth inside. The place was packed early on a Saturday night with families, couples, and intoxicated parties. Both the frozen and on the rocks margaritas were inexpensive and delicious. If you don't stick your nose up to well tequila, you can score a pitcher for just $14. The complimentary chips and salsa were a threat to my waist line because I became quite addicted. However, when my 2 bean burritos and rice arrived, I was satisfied but not wowed over. There wasn't anything bad to report about the dish but I wouldn't be craving anything from my plate either. I will definitely come back for the margaritas and chips and salsa. I may even try another dish too because it's near my home. There just isn't a sense of urgency to go back.

  • Terra T.

The chips and salsa were amazing! I love that they use lots of cilantro in their salsa. My boyfriend had the Margarona and I had the Margarita. They were perfect! The service was really great;our waiter was so sweet! I could also tell that this is a " neighborhood" restaurant as customers were greeted like family as they walked in. While this isn't our favorite restaurant in Nashville, it is closer to home for us and I can definitely see us eating here again!

Well... It's hard to review these kinds of Mexican restaurants. All of your dining experiences there start to blend in, you know? Not a bad thing, obviously, since I'm giving Las Maracas three times. I've eaten here twice, neither of which were bad meals, but nothing worth writing home about. It's just your basic Mexican fare.

  • S H.

Like a few other reviewers, I can't understand why anyone thinks this is good or authentic Mexican food! I just moved to Nashville from Chicago and I do not understand why this place is so crowded. Everything is out of a can and tastes horrible. The waiters seemed more concerned with the gimmick of getting the American customers to do tequila shots. In any true Mexican hole in the wall I've frequented in Chicago, people are not doing tequila shots every 2 minutes and going bananas over margaritas made with bottled mix. I took 2 bites of my entree and that was it. Same with my husband - since when do chiles come wrapped in an omelet? I knew good ethnic food would be few and far between in Nashville, but come on! I don't know what makes me sadder - the food or the people that think this is good food!

My wife and I love this place. We eat here all the time cuz we can't get enough. Love the chicken tacos and the cheese dip. And my wife always gets the same thing - the #4. She's so boring. : ) And she says their pico de gallo is simply the best. Las Maracas definintly isn't fancy - but who wants fancy? Fancy schmancy, is what i say! But this restaurant has a great atmosphere, interesting mix of diners, super-fast service, good food, and very low prices. It's happenin.

  • Lea P.

Boo. Salsa seems like it's from a can, similar in taste and consistency to marinara sauce. Food is meh. Beans seem watery and flavorless, my tamale and enchilada were filled with dryish ground beef and piled with more of the same. Rosepepper is a much better option and I'm sure there must be authentic taquerias and the like that I've yet to discover... Hope so anyway!

Firsts things first: I want to re-label this as a Tex-Max restaurant, not Mexican. As a Tex-Mex restaurant, this is the best ive had in Nashville in a very long time. They have always been courteous, prompt and willing to please. I usually order off menu in this place and they dont mind at all. The margaritas are fabulous as well as their salsa. Ordering is fast and ive never had an empty cup. This place is great for groups, kids and it doesnt break the budget. ...and theres something they do with the chicken. I dont know what it is but its crazy good!

On hot days I find myself thinking of margaritas and oceans...and well I can't get oceans here in Nashville, so margarita it is! After spending a day at the museum we were in need of sustenance and upon discovering that Rose Pepper (which is closer to us) closed due to Memorial weekend, we crossed our fingers that Maracas was open. And it was! It wasn't busy either, we were seated inside in the air conditioning within minutes. Soon complimentary chips and salsa arrived when we ordered our margaritas. I got mine blended and it arrived in a ginormous schooner goblet ...and that was the small!!!! My food didn't wow me...and I have to admit I enjoyed Rose Pepper more...but quite frankly it didn't disappoint and it hit the spot for me. Our waiter was wonderful, quiet and fast. I'll definitely be back for margaritas when I got a hankering.

Quite possibly the worst mexican food I've ever had. I'm confused how anyone could rate this highly. Service was fast and fine. Problem was it was too fast. From the time we placed our order to the time we had our food on the plate was probably under 2 minutes. I order chile relleno combo with a taco. They screwed up my order and brought me the wrong combo. I don't think it would have matter as it was mostly a pile of watery steamed ground beef. No flavor and a big ball of it that was still pink in the middle. The Chile relleno was just a chile they cut open, stuffed some more watery ground beef in and poured white cheese sauce in. The only redeeming thing about the whole experience was that my kid got a balloon. I'll never be back.

I read the other reviews before writing mine. True--this is the Americanized Mexican style restaurant. It is not authentico. However, it is very good in this class of Mexican fare. The new facility is much better than their original spot down the road. Pros: they have the best salsa in town. That is sort of my standard of these types of restaurant. If the salsa is bad--the rest of the chessy, beany stuff is bad. They have great salsa. Points go to beers as big as your head. The waitstaff is always friendly. Parking and getting into the place can be a little wonky. I usually park on the right side in the strip mall lot. Last time I was there, I found my new "go-to". The fajita nachos with chicken was very good. The chunks of chicken were tasty and the placement of beans and other toppings on each piece of tortilla was thoughtful and even. Most of the time at similar Mexican restaurants--this dish is just dumped on the plate and it is a gross mass of beans, meat, and stuff thrown together. This was visually pleasing and palatable. Tasted great. Cons: When it is crowded (like at dusk on a summertime weekend night)--the feng shui is fouled up in there. There isn't a good spot to wait on a table. If you get one of the seats by the door, you are constantly pulling your legs in as new customers come through the door and waitstaff weaves through the crowd to deliver food to the patio outside. Most people choose (or do so because there aren't enough seats) wait outside. The hostess gives you a little post-it note with a number on it and then they skip over some people and then realize later when the person comes in with their post-it and asks "how come my number didn't get called?" Overall--I like the place and when cheapie Mexican is on order--that is where I go.

One of the Best Authentic Mexican cuisine restaurants in Nashville. Best Margaritas hands down. Love the staff too!! All around great! Food Come Out SUPER fast and HOT! Just like You Like it!!!!

  • Brad K.

The food was decent. I was starving after a long day of trail running so it's hard to tell. I know I didn't love it, but it was relatively inexpensive, the staff was nice, and the food came out quickly. They also had a large screen television with soccer (er, football) playing. I think the best part of this is likely the deck outside. It was packed when I got there. Inside, was pretty empty.

We use to go here all the time, but lately its been inconsistent. The margaritas are great and strong, food and service is hit or miss

  • Brent W.

This is the one for me now! The salsa was right-on home-made no nasty and the chips were fresh as can be. We ordered from the menu portion "from or off The Grill". Steak burrito and Shrimp Burrito were absolutely perfect, fresh all the way, the service, and price...all the bomb-diggety baby! BTW-Don't pay attention to the "specials board" examples wrapped in plastic when you walk in...that's just a nasty little mistake you have to forgive them for...

I only gave them 3 stars because it isnt mind blowing here, but more than 2 stars because I do like what I have ordered and I will be back. The deductions would apply to service and lack thereof....but this review is about food. I am from Southern California, and have spent many summers in Mexico and grew up with a mix of Hispanic foods, made fresh from Abuelita's kitchen - I am picky. I dont like ground beef tacos at a Mexican Restaurant, I dont cover all of my food in "queso" like all of the people I hear ordering here in the South and I expect the food to have fresh ingredients. Las Maracas has some really good dishes, if you are willing to get over the urge to drowned everything in queso dip and red sauce. If you order a burrito, a taco and an enchilada - you arent going to see much difference in any of the items, they are all essentially, meat, cheese and tortilla with some variation in sauce. But if you order Carne Asada tacos with onion, cilantro and pico de gallo you get away from the norm and taste some flavors. Or maybe a pork dish, or a enchilada dish with green sauce.... The Fajitas Especial de las Maracas are good, 4 meats; Shrimp, Beef ribs, Chicken and Chorizo all grilled up with fresh tomatoes, bell pepper, and onions. Delicious. This place is far from my border state but they have some good food, and the food isnt super expensive. Mexican food is basic fresh ingredients, it shouldnt cost $20 a plate unless you are ordering serious seafood, and lets face it this isnt a coastal town. Try something new on the menu you may be pleasantly surprised. I am ordering something different every time, to try it out, and staying away from the old favorites. They are worth a shot and the drinks are inexpensive, the patio is great and who doesnt love Chips and Salsa?

3rd favorite Mexican joint in Nashville. (I know,I know ...it's Tex Mex now shut up and read...) Great food. Great service and chips & salsa forever! Day in and day out this place rocks! Lunch or dinner it's always solid! The GRILLED chicken taco will make you a better person.

A solid option for Ameri-Mex dining. It's hard to write a Useful/Funny/Cool review when everything was just fine, good, average, satisfying and as expected. The pulled pork burrito with the green sauce was noteworthy. They need new booths. They're saggy.

So last night some friends were asking where to get some Mexican food to go from.Being that this establishment is a few blocks away and we wanted to get back to our jams,I called in an order. We waited the 15 minutes the woman said it would take for the order to be ready but when we arrived to pick up we had to wait an extra 15 minutes. Our bellies were not happy about that. 2 fajita orders,1 chicken the other steak and 1 order of chicken enchilada's,extra pico de gallo and extra limes.Well the order was correct BUT the limes were lemons!!! What is with some of these restaurants giving lemons instead of limes?! The food...... well it's "microwave Mexican" seems all these places do the quick fix to heat everything up. Even though I will go back way on down the line,I wasn't too happy this go around.Maybe the music was pulling a little too hard to even fathom eating? Who knows.

I'm really very confused about how anyone could give this place more than two stars even judging it by typical "American" Mexican food standards. Quite simply it is: gross. I've lived in Southern California and love more authentic Mexican food. But this can be hard to get in the rest of the US, and I actually have nothing against and actually enjoy Americanized Mexican food too. Las Maracas utterly fails even in this category where the bar is pretty low. Seriously, Taco Bell is better. I'm not kidding. At least there you have some corporate engineered flavor and not *everything* is out of a can. The salsa was basically canned crushed tomatoes with I think a wee bit of chopped cilantro. I couldn't taste an onion to save my life, and definitely not a chile. We ordered standard enchilada, burrito, tamale entrees. They were pretty much horrible. Mystery meat, cheese that I think was just regular cheap white cheddar, not even jack or a Mexican blend, and two mysterious red sauces that completely lacked any flavor at all. I'm pretty sure they came right out of a can and that can was labeled "tomato sauce". Could you please at least buy the can labeled "enchilada sauce"?? It really did taste like bad pasta sauce. No spice, no flavor, no nothing. Tamales were dry and the pork was drier and tasteless. Again, covered in tomato sauce. There really is no excuse for this. Most Mexican and Americanized Mexican food is cheap by nature, which is the idea. Take cheap cuts of meat, corn and vegetables and make it taste good by adding in other cheap and tasty stuff like some spices, onions, garlic, and chiles, and using a bit of technique from mom like slow cooking your pork. Not hard. Throw a bunch of cheese on at the end for the American palate if you must. Why people eat at this place I really don't know. We pretty much left our plates uneaten and went and got a slice of pizza.

This is my spot, love the food, love the service, love the Margaritas. My friends and I will go here on the regular and spend an evening downing delicious food and drinks. I love the addition with the deck its basically where we sit now even in the winter. I was eating here when it was a tiny hole in the wall in inglewood. Totally upgraded the place and I ve been so much they know us by name. You can't beat that. Not super expensive and you will be full when you leave.

I went here once before they moved even closer to where I live, and their new location is even better. The atmosphere is bright, unlike any authentic Mexican restaurant I've ever been to (usually they are dimly lit so you can barely read the menu). I had a vegetarian special that included a spinach enchilada (comes topped with that queso dip, yum), chalupa and bean burrito. The chips were hot, the salsa was fresh and the margaritas were just potent enough. Excellent service. Next time you're on the east side and someone suggests Rosepepper, come here instead. (The only downfall is that they don't have mango margaritas.) You won't be sorry.

The new location is simply one of the best decors and facilities of all of the "this style" Mexican restaurants around Nashville. The service is fast, kind and accurate. The food is consistent. The crowd is always comfortable and welcoming. One of the best in town!

I love this place!! Going there just makes you feel better. The food is very consistent and the staff are all very friendly and competent. My fiancé and I find ourselves eating here way more often then we plan on. If you have a bad day, go sit on the patio and have a margarita and some food and you will be much happier:). I can't wait to go back!

I'm not a frequent visitor of the east side, so when the opportunity presented itself to check out this beloved east side joint, we had to check it out. We went on a busy Friday night, wow can you say mad house, but the service was still very good. A cold beer and some salsa & chips started off the meal. The salsa was actually quite nice, big tomato and cilantro flavors, although I wish it had a bit more heat. Needless to say, the salsa was not a good measure for the rest of the food. I ordered the chile verde, which the menu describes as pulled pork in a green sauce. What's presented is a dull grayish colored chunks of pork in green sauce. Not so pleasing to the eye or palate. Cool place, good service, but I'll stick to Mexican on the south side.

Okay Las Maracas, since my favorite Mexican restaurant endured fire damage, I decided to give you another chance. I have to hand it to you, your beef and chicken tacos are delicious, and cheaper than the competition. But the service is. so. bad. The waiters either ignore you, or all but slam your food down in front of you. Forget about asking for extra salsa or chips because it will either never come, or you'll get eyes rolled in your direction. I want to like you Las Maracas..heck, I even want to LOVE you. But I feel downright dirty when I leave there, and I work too hard for my dollars to be treated that way.

I always get chicken soft tacos or some type of chicken burrito. Last time we went , service was pretty slow (we had to ask for a Corona about 3 times after our server kept forgetting) but they were fairly busy. It is really a bit above average for your "run of the mill" middle TN mexican restaurant. Chips aren't hot usually and salsa is semi-bland, but it is cheap and chicken/pepper mixture is yummy.

basic mexican... good because they are cheap and nice at the same time! although they say the outside is heated if you sit next to the plastic outer limits you are left with cold feet ... on the only cold day out of this year! Like I said its not fancy mexican but its cheap and the liquor is cheap/ with the beer!

Not real keen on this place for the food but I always have GREAT service. This last time I ate there I had the fish tacos. Formerly living close to San Diego and really liking fish tacos I decided to give these a try. They were excellent except for being very stingy on the fish. Moneywise, I could probably eat here for less than $10 if they didn't have margaritas...... I tried sitting at the bar once but the bar for some reason is abnormally high, or the chairs or short. I definitely recommend the patio, some friends and a pitcher or 2 of margaritas.

They have a vegetarian section, but the beans are NOT vegetarian. The waitstaff may tell you they are, but that is because they think vegetarians are ok with lard. This is a major pet peeve of mine as it happens all the time here in Nashville. On my one visit here, the food was mediocre and the service was pretty bad. They do have a nice porch.

It is what it is for what it is and it is good. For a typical "pick your number meal" mexican restaurant, its the best I've had in Nashville. The salsa is well spiced and not runny. The top shelf Margarita is heavily poured with Patron and Grand Marnier, better than the sweet and sour mix splashed with Pepe Lopez at most mexican restaurants. I had the large burrito priced around $7 which is big enough to have lunch tomorrow. The special of the night was California fish taco. The pico had a perfect blend of fresh tasting ingredients and just enough jalapeno spice. The service was good, we didn't have to wait to be greeted, food came quickly, and waiter was prompt with the bill. I'm not a huge fan of the run of of the mill mexican restaurants, but Las Maracas blows the glorified Taco Bell restaurants such as Las Palmas out of the agua, I highly recommend it when you get the south of the boarder comfort food urge.

Totally worth the drive out to this part of Nashville! Las Maracas definitely exceeds expectations - from the outside it's this blazingly orange former fast food joint that's been converted into a low-rent Mexican restaurant. But, just like your mother said (probably) you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. The food at Las Maracas is simply amazing. They've got a laundry list of combo plates for $6.99 - but the real deal is on the other side of the menu. Go for the house specialities - I personally love the quesadilla especial (or something of that nature, it's only $8.99). It's essentially a giant quesadilla filled with super tasty chicken fajitas and smothered in cheese. Come on, tell me that doesn't sound good? Plus, the ingredients are fresh and well-prepared. The salsa, guacamole, and other sides are excellent. And, AND, you'll have left-overs the next day. Another plus is the great service. These guys are really good at what they do - they anticipate your needs and are right there when you've finished your drink, to get you another. Finally, Las Maracas provides some pretty interesting people watching. So, what's not to like. Las Maracas is really good, cheap Mexican food served by nice guys in an interesting environment. So, get your asses out to the far end of Nashville and enjoy a meal. You won't be disappointed.

Best mexican place I've found in Nashville out of the 5 years I've lived here. The salsa, queso, and chicken anything is amazing. Also, if you go there for your birthday, they give you a complimentary shot of tequila and sopapillas. We went with a group of around 10 or 12 on a Friday. They didn't except reservations, but you can call ahead so that they can try to save a bigger table for your party.

it took me a year to check out Las Maracas, but i'm glad i did. i've been a few times now, and have a better idea of how to get the best out of the experience. it's a big mexican restaurant, the kind with big plates with a slab of refried beans and red sauces that smother the food. it's definitely not gourmet or upscale, but more like mexican comfort food. my first visit, i had a combo plate where the three items all looked pretty much the same, but it left me satisfied. my friend had the fish tacos that night, and wasn't thrilled with them, but he did clean his plate. since, i've tried the camarones ala mojo de ajo, which is shrimp in garlic butter, one of my favorite things to eat on the beach in mexico. again, not gourmet, but the shrimp were plentiful and savory, though my friend thought it was too salty (ever notice how women like salty but men don't?). then i tried the nachos with chicken, which was good, and my friend that night had the grilled steak, which was big and he seemed to devour it happily. overall, the food is authentic and tasty. their chips and salsa are good and fresh, so beware or you'll polish off a basket before you know it. and the margaritas are better than good -- frozen or on the rocks, they're tart and not too sweet and you can taste the tequila. and the service is friendly and pretty fast even when they're busy. best of all, when the weather allows, they have a big outside front porch with lots of tables, which means that if you have friends who smoke, you can go out to drinks and dinner and not have people hopping up and going outside to grab a cigarette all the time. i've put this place on my regular rotation for an inexpensive and casual dinner out.

I've always loved the food and we usually get great service as well.....I have treated out of town guests and clients there because I feel it's a safe bet we'll get good service the everyone has loved the food......the queso dip is awesome, and my other favs are Santa Fe chicken, California Burrito, Chimichangas, fish tacos, and carne asada tacos.

Nothing remarkable here, standard Mexican menu with non of mamas home recipes. Decentish margaritas, and an acceptable Camarones Diabla which I love. The East Nasty locals love it and it fills a gap on this side of town.

I moved to Nashville from the East Bay, Ca. Immediately I saw a painful lack of authentic Mexican food. I went on an immediate hunt for great Carnitas (my favorite Mexican meal). Months and months went by and I basically gave up and started ordering other dishes. Finally, I happened upon the Carnitas at Las Maracas. It's simple. It's tasty. Yes folks, It's simply tasty! It's not too salty and it's not bland. It's not dried out or swimming in fluids. Get over to Las Maracas and order the the Carnitas. NOW!

Las Maracas is just what I like in a Mexican restaurant: low prices, big portions, lots of veggie combos, and a slightly trashy clientele (last time I went in I witnessed the very loud break up of what I'm sure was a charming couple - cops were called, manager shook his head, hilarious). But if you're used to the Inglewood/East Nash border then you know this is more character-providing than problematic. The service is very friendly. The salsa is delicious, and they're always willing to put a little extra in to-go orders. The margaritas are a little weak, but tasty. All in all, if you're looking for filling, no-frills, always good Mexican with a little extra charm (think fake cloud skylights), Las Maracas is a great choice.

Yummy margaritas - check. Great service - check. Crazy variety on the menu - check. Fresh tasting salsa - check. It's Mexican that's not located anywhere near Mexico so it's probably no that that authentic, but were pretty darn far away from any true Hispanic culture here in Nashville that I'll take what I can get and this place is awesome.

Happened 3 months ago - Account confirm delay. Have worked down the street for almost 3 years. Eaten here close to once a week for that time and about HALF of my orders during that time were wrong in one way or another. I continued eating there in despite of this because there is not much to choose from in that area. Yesterday i sat down for my lunch ordered what i always get and the skinny guy with spiked hair who always brings out the food came out with my lunch i told him Thank You like i ALWAYS tell them when I am brought anything. He walked away and said Pinche Americano (spelling?) The place had just opened at 11 and i was the only one in the back. The little girl who brings out Salsa heard it and had a weird look on her face, I thought about it being derogatory for a second and then ate my lunch because i have a short lunch break. When i got back to work today i asked one of the Hispanic guys i work with what it meant and he was instantly fuming mad. He said it is a Completely racist remark and I should never go back. My friend i work with does not bite his tongue for anything and would not tell me exactly what it meant because he did not want to say it. Need i say more? Anyone with questions please message me.

OK I have to give them props for the flaming red facade and the nice menu. Here are my issues. For one thing the food is just OK but I don't think that is authentic at all. It's cheapie Mexican so live it up because I know a lot of people like that. Here is my ewwwwww... I saw a ROACH! It didn't help that I was a little pregnant and queasy (it was ambitious of my husband to have this craving) so alas, I tossed my cookies or tortillas actually and haven't been back since.

I had heard good things about this restaurant, but admittedly I'm a bit picky when it comes to Mexican food in tennessee. The margaritas were tasty, though not too strong, great with a meal. I had the camarones al mojo de ajo (garlic shrimp), and it came smothered in garlic which I liked. It had sliced fresh avocado, which made me happy to not see crappy guacamole with mayo as so many mexican places do to cater to us gringos. All in all, I enjoyed this restaurant, a lot more than most mexican restaurants around (you'll never catch me at places like las palmas in west end area). I recommend it!

An authentic Nashville Mexican eatery, its family friendly with a good number of yelping (off the web) kids. The banana chimichanga will satisfy your sweet tooth and make your belly happy. The combo Special Dinner is good for 2 and includes tamale, enchilada, relleno, taco and chalupa. Parties can get their margaritas on by the pitcher for $15 to $35 depending on the brand.

Nice atmosphere, but that where the good stops. Main course arrived before the appetizer. Food was cold and had to be sent back. It was ok, but nothing special. Waiter was apparently in the witness protection program, because he was nowhere to be found.

If you want to talk about simple, stripped-down and straight-forward Mexican cuisine, this is your place. Las Maracas is one of the better Mexican restaurants in the city, and it's certainly the best you'll find in the Inglewood area. Las Maracas is impossible to miss (primarily because it's painted a blazing shade of orange), and while management has changed hands recently, the staff has and will probably always remain its finest feature. Servers and hosts are always beaming and happy to talk, and the service is typically quick and attentive. The place is relatively spacious, but Friday and Saturday nights are surprisingly crowded. Their dishes are nothing out of the ordinary--combinations based around enchiladas, tacos, rice, beans, burritos, et cetera. However, their sizzling fajitas are pretty stand-out. Most combos are pretty cheap and drinks are especially cheap ($8 for a pitcher of Dos Equis). For your buck, Las Maracas really is one of the better Mexican joints you'll come across.

Five stars for the type of place it is, a Mexican American restaurant. All of the things you expect to see on the menu, chimichangas, fajitas, enchiladas, are all represented here. The enchaladas rancharas are fantastic. Good 2 for 1 beer and margaritas on mon and tues I believe. Great new patio for spring and summer. Chips and salsa beat las palmas or even la hacienda. If you are down for a frozen margarita and a no. 12 lunch special this is your spot in Nashville.

I love this place...it's almost perfect cheap Mexican food. I live nearby in East Nashville and work downtown, so I'll often come here for lunch or a quick dinner. The lunch menu is ridiculously cheap and the service is super fast! They have great specials on beer and margaritas if you go at the right time. I come here so often they have started recognizing me and the dish I made up, "cheesy rice" aka rice with cheese dip poured over it. Seriously, try it...it is amazing!

So, in my experience there are two kinds of Mexican foodies out there. There are the type that only like authentic, eat where the mexican folks eat and then there are the ones that only like the homogenized, americanized, low impact, shredded iceburg and pre-shaped taco shell types that are really just there for the margaritas. Now, I don't condemn either but, Las Maracas caters to the latter. There is nothing special about this restaurant other than it's convenient and quick. We get take out here frequently but have decided that from now on we'll only eat at the restaurant because the food just doesn't hold up by the time you get it home. The menu, while extensive, is not adventurous in any way. Typical and predictable just like the food. And, if you look around, typically the folks dining here are not mexicans eating food from the homeland. They are eating a little ways up the road in Madison at some of the taquerias, etc. But, if you are the type that likes a more mild mexican food experience with familiar combos and non-adventurous menu items then this is the place for you....and they do have plenty of Dos XX's. Oh, and one bonus is that while waiting for your table, you can pick a tune on the Esteban Cadillac acoustic guitar that is strung with electric strings and usually missing the all important G string......

First off I want to preface by making an observation. Everyone has a friend or a few who rave about some run of the mill Meximerican restaurant that is in there area of town..You have Los Palmas or Tres Amigos or whatever other generic name you can spit out. These places are pretty well interchangeable with menu items and thus should be rated on a different scale. You don't go to these places for farm fresh ingredients or a grass fed hanger steak tacos. You go for the food that you know what it tastes like before it gets to your table. So I have said that to give you my review of "My Mexican" restaurant. I have never been disapointed here, the service is excellent. The menu items are prepared quickly and come out hot and fresh. The salsa which is oh so important to many people is very good here, and this is an excellent spot to get an afterwork beer, especially the 34oz. Dos Equis. So basically what I am saying is...yes its a generic Mexican restaurant, and yes most things on the menu come covered in cheese with a side of beans, but if your ok with that, you will get good services, hot food, and at a very reasonable price.

We go here nearly every weekend. The salsa is so fresh I could practically drink it. If you order the fajitas for two, you can split among FOUR. no joke. We always are pleasantly filled and get out for less than 20 bucks for the two of us.

Holy moly, I pay the light bill at this place, I eat there so much. From the super friendly waitstaff (we miss you, Jimmy) to the awesome cheap-ass menu, this is my favorite place to go eat quick, hang out and drink margaritas with friends, or sit down with the whole family for a good meal. The food is great, the margaritas are cheap with lots of happy hour specials, and the location could hardly be better (except it will be when it moves even closer in just a few weeks!). In short...I LOVE LAS MARACAS.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Nashville, one I frequent. The service is always REALLY good, fast, and friendly - it's a very smoothly operated restaurant (both locations). Also, the chips and salsa are awesome and addictive (can't say that about every mexican restaurant!). Prices are very inexpensive and the food is always delicious and flavorful.

I'm not sure why so many people rave about this place. The food is ok, but far from great. It's your basic Tex Mex fare smothered in cheese. The place isn't very clean; a reality they try to hide with overpowering industrial strength cleaning products. A step up from Taco Bell, but not by much.

thank you, thank you, thank you, Las Maracas!!! I wish i could give 4.5 stars. Let's start with the drink specials. $2.50 12oz margaritas Mon-Wed. 2 for 1 on Thursdays ($4). As an earlier reviewer noted, not the strongest but very tasty and totally appropriate mix-to-tequila ratio. This is a good deal! Service. Friendly, laid back, genuinely happy to be there, and attentive as hell... my second margarita came down seconds after I placed my vanquished 1st glass to the side. Salsa: delicious indeed. Slightly sweet zing to it, like sweet corn or something, but not sugary. Food: totally respectable cheap combo plates for dinner ($6) or splurge a few more bucks for a huge plate (it will be lunch tomorrow) with delciously spice meats, fresh veggies, all about perfect by Tennessee Mexican food (Tenn/Mex?... that was lame, sorry) standards.

Went for lunch today. Salsa was very fresh tasting and neither to bland nor too spicy. Everything was tasty and above par for this type of Mexican restaurant, but not any more expensive.

decent mexican food that won't blow you away but also won't leave you disappointed. it's simple, mexican food. fresh chips are a nice bonus. Does Las Maracas compare to the mexican you'll find in Texas or California..no way. But for Nashville, it serves it's purpose.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
