I tried La Parrilla for the first time last night. The atmosphere is very nice and very comfortable. We were seated quickly and just made the cutoff for happy hour. The mango margaritas were fantastic and those alone merit a return visit. The salsa is served in a very generous portion and was fresh and delicious. The menu is small and I think they excel at drinks and small plates. I had the Sante Fe burger and my friend had the traditional fajitas. Both items were slightly overcooked and my burger was more like a spicy meatloaf. It also was not dressed as described on the menu but overall the food was good. The side salad was slightly better than a value menu salad but about the same size. The star of the show however was dessert. I had the Tres Leches cake and my friend had the churros. Both were fresh and homemade and beautifully presented. Definitely save room for dessert. Overall, great atmosphere, good service and a wonderful place to grab a drink and appetizer.

Let me first say that I don't recall EVER returning food to a kitchen at a restaurant. If I have in the past, it's so long ago I can't recall. But I did today!! Let me start from the beginning: I tried this place for lunch today. Was seated fairly quickly by a polite hostess. All good so far. I took a look at the relatively limited menu, when compared to other Mex places like La Hacienda or Mazatlan. It took a full 10 minutes before anyone else acknowledged me. If they would have been busy, that wouldn't be a problem, but the servers were all gathered around the hostess station talking while I just kind of sat there. When my waitress finally did come up and take my order, it was pretty obvious to me that she wasn't completely comfortable in her job. Seemed new to food service altogether in my honest opinion. But, she was polite enough. Decided to order the steak Quesadilla, on the very first bite, I hit a "meat" chunk I couldn't chew. On my 4th bite, I hit what I could only describe as a brittle bone...that was it. Told the waitress I wanted the check. I didn't even want to fix the meal, just wanted to pay and get out. She said she would talk to her manager, who then came out. Miguel, I believe his name was. A nice guy, but he basically told me I was wrong and it couldn't be a bone in my food, because the meat they order doesn't have bones in it...?? So they must buy from those farms with boneless cows I guess. I realize that the product they buy is supposed to be bone free, but it's certainly still within the realm of possibility that a bone made its way through the process. What is scarier is that, if it wasn't a bone, then what the heck was it?!? In any case, he insisted that he make me a CHICKEN quesadilla to go. I figured ok what the heck. Took it to go and paid my $12.02 bill, leaving a $3 tip. (that's for a quesadilla and iced tea). So I got home, thinking maybe I shouldn't write a bad review for this place. After all, as a rule I don't do Yelp reviews at all. But then I decided to try a couple bites of the chicken quesadilla just to see if it was any good. It was not great. I tried dipping the 2nd bite into my refried beans, and I literally spit it out. The beans had a strong fishy aftertaste. I chucked the rest of that quesadilla and sat down to write this. Lesson learned, I will not be going back there!

I honestly don't mind waiting my turn, but when I've been standing in you entrance and the hostess asks another person to please seat me why she's helping someone else, I expect to be seated. Unfortunately, the second employee felt it was more important to turn around and renter the kitchen, and then walk past me twice while ignoring me. Would have liked to eat, but too hungry to deal with this BS.

had the top shelf margarita and 2 beef tacos for lunch - good lunch deal on the two tacos for 9$.. top shelf margaritas are awesome..!! (9.50$ for those) tacos were advertised as having cheese on them, but had none, manager was assisting employees on monitor order system, so i dismissed the error, and i received a double order later due to the systems being down/messed up when my order was placed.. still good tacos though.. will return.. they are still working out some kinks, but this is expected as new employees come in and people figure out the 'flow'.. regular 'house' margaritas are 6$.. not too bad of an up charge for top shelf.. I've seen 12$ elsewhere.. cilantro rice was good, but lots of cilantro, so beware if you don't like that.. NOTE: they add orange juice to their house margaritas- if you don't like that, just ask for them w/out it, they will leave it out..

Amazing food and great service!! Was a bit hesitant after reading the reviews, but this place blew my expectations out of the water. I had the green chile fried chicken which was absolutely delicious. Me and my girlfriends also had some of the house margaritas. They weren't too strong, but definitely strong enough for me to feel something! The all around atmosphere was fun and inviting! The service was also pretty quick. Definitely added to my top three favorite places to eat in Nashville! Will definitely be back soon!

It breaks my heart to give this place a bad review, because almost everybody was so very eager to please! The mediocre service is due to inexperience, undoubtedly. Clearly not a one of these people have worked in the hospitality industry for over a month. The food, however, was the real dealbreaker! I had the Barbacoa BBQ tacos: the meat was like shoe leather, the cilantro slaw was nonexistent, the sauce was goopy and sweet, the tortillas were old and dry. Not good.

Great place! Great atmosphere, VERY clean. We had a great server who was super friendly and helpful with our 2 yr old. The food was awesome as well! Chicken fajitas were amazing! Big portions, tasty, and they don't skimp on the red peppers too. They have happy hour 4-7pm every day, ladies night on Thursday, outside patio, and Karaoke mixed in too. Great place!

Disgusting!!!! I hate to give bad reviews but this was just awful. The restaurant recently changed from Casa Fiesta to La Parilla and is nothing like its predecessor. I had a Chimichanga with rice and beans. The rice was completely bland and the beans were absolutely horrible. I should have known it would be bad when the waitress asked if I wanted red or white sauce on my Chimichanga. I thought they always came with cheese sauce. The bread was doughy and not really "fried" at all. It had shredded chicken, onions and NACHO Cheese sauce on the inside! Yuck! Not to mention the queso cheese on top. Nothing had any taste or flavor. The margarita I had was even kind of watery. They should go back to the old cooks and owners and beg them to come back. Also, lunch was VERY overpriced. Never again. Casa Fiesta on Bell road is where I'll be from now on. I'll end it like I began, Disgusting!!!!

Wow. I'm astounded at how bad lunch was. Combo #1 beef taco, chicken chalupa-easy order right? Not so much. Came out all beef and without the sides. So the barkeep attempts to get me the right chalupa, however, what I get is an entire second meal all chicken. Come on man! This is Mexican, it's supposed to be easy. The beef was greasy as all hell and the chicken "tinga" tasted the absolute same as the crap in the cold case at Kroger. Portions were weak for Mexican and the quality was meh. The remodel of the place was pretty half assed too. Never again La Parilla. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, well that's just not gonna happen. I give the place six months tops.

I am not understanding the bad reviews...Sissy the bartender rocked!!! Two less than positives: I ordered a top shelf margarita only to find it was made with Josè Gold. Yuck. She quickly offered to make a Patron margarita with Grand Marnier. Perfection. The only other down I have is the guacamole was bland. The positives: The food was wonderful with generous portions. Loved the salsa. Service was fantastic! Restaurant/bar/restrooms were super clean and nicely decorated. The service was the only thing that outdid the food. I definitely recommend and will certainly be back!

The two stars are for service, they went over and above. Even thought I lived in Texas for 10 years in the 80s and 90s I guess I don't understand the term "Tex-Mex" at least not in this case. Chips, Salsa and Margaritas were good. I had the Steak Fajitas, meat was a little dry but onions and peppers were good. Beans and rice were very dry. I have never had Fajitas without Pico, sour cream, guacamole, shredded cheese or at least the offer of same. It was a first for me with Fajitas to have corn tortillas in stead of flour but I like corn tortillas. Wife had a Beef Burrito and didn't like anything about it. I get they are trying to be high in and it is all but the food, beautiful restaurant and Bar.

Decided to try out la parrilla for lunch today. The restaurant was very clean and looked nice. As for the food it was average and a little expensive for lunch. Probably the first and last visit.

Cold stale chips and bland salsa. Portions are small and beef tortilla was mostly beans and rice. Overpriced and not very tasty. Fancy presentation could not make up for poor quality of the food. Service was good. We wont be back.

I work on Elm Hill Pike and it is understood that every restaurant around here gets a lunch rush. Yes, this is the old Casa Fiesta that has been completely redone. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt because they just opened, but this place was horrible. 3 adults & 1 child arrived there at 11:20 for lunch, was immediately seated, and then it all went down hill from there. I ordered unsweet tea which I asked for sweet and low packets. I asked 4 times from 2 different people and finally got them 25 mins later. By the time I got the packets, we all needed a refill, never got them. We were offered more chips and salsa (the salsa was really good, cold, and fresh actually) and only received more cold chips. Never got a drink refill. The kids plain cheese quesadilla took over 20 mins to come to the table. As for the 3 adult entrees we ordered?...we left after waiting an hour for them. The waitresses there were frantically running around and it was clear to see that we weren't the only table frustrated with the poor service. When we finally got to speak to the manager (i asked twice to talk to him), which was in the middle of us walking out the door, he apologized. Thanks for the apology, but this is just the tip of the ice burg: the acoustics are horrible; very loud, not a big menu, the La Parrilla that you find online to look at their menu is not this restaurant.....even though their sign and their font and colors resemble it???? I could go on and on, but I'm going to bank on "opening week" kinks that simply haven't been worked out yet. I really wanted to like this place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
