For a classic, expertly prepared hot dog, this is the place! I had the Nashville, Chicago, and Texas dogs. The Nashville is special, and is a must! The Chicago is perfect. The Texas is very good, but has beans! LOL! Beans in chili can be fighting words in Texas. The Nashville and Chicago were A+, the Texas was very tasty, but more like an A or A- (depending if you like beans). Special note: all buns are lightly steamed. This touch is the way almost all dogs were served many years ago, but today, few places do this anymore. I really like it!!! There are lots of places popping up these days serving gourmet dogs with fancy buns and top dollar pricing. This place serves classic dogs at good prices. The fries were perfect and crispy!! The only classic dog missing from the menu was a Detroit coney. Maybe a dog for a future special? Highly recommended, and I will be back when in Nashville! Lastly, read the other reviews regarding seating.

The more I visited... the less I liked the dogs, the more I likes the staff (great people here) ...and then I found the Brat. Perfect brat with kraut. Ask for spicy brown mustard, and ask for lots of it.

Fun little Hot Dog Stand. No seating in the building. Seating is via picnic benches out back in a tent. I had the texas dog and fries. Chili on dog had beans (not my preference, but good anyway) and fries are handcut homemade style. For me 4 stars means I'll happily go there again if I'm in the neighborhood.

I'm from Chicago so I know the real deal, and I don't mean the suburbs. These hot dogs are fantastic! Co-owner, Gayle, is so welcoming and funny. I get the Chicago steamed dog and have ordered that every time I've gone in over 6 years.

I eat hot dogs on average maybe once a year. Now it will be at least twice

My better half doesn't care for this place too much but I on the other hand dig Hot Diggity Dogs! This place is small and is a little house just South of the new convention center but has a covered patio with seating to accommodate you if you just wanna eat and chill for a min. HDD has a wide selection of dog styles, i choose the Texas chili dog ( Of course! :) ) it came with melted cheese, chili with beans, and onions. Wifey choose the New York style hot dog, but by the time she took everything off it only had relish and mustard. MS. picky! lol French fries which have a crispy outside and soft inside, i wasn't too much a fan of but they were still good! Owners and staff are pleasant and eager to help you decide what type of hot dog you want. I'm a fan!! Can't wait to try their different combinations!

This is a small location tucked away behind the church and bus station area. Good thing they have parking. Also you can park on the street. Very small building , though they have a large covered tent with benches/ tables plenty of room in the tent to sit and eat. Food was very good hot, fresh and the Italian beef was spot on and a good size and very filling. The Chicago dog was small.. Vienna hot dogs are not big anyways. Very delicious. There fries were also very good. They have a pretty good menu plenty of stuff. Staff was friendly and I will be sure to make this a stop for lunch when in the area.

I tend to have a bad habit of walking in places right at close....I walked in randomly for a hot dog and didn't even know they were closed until I had already paid. Such friendly staff. Great hot dog on top of it all. Chicago or nothing for this guy... They did not disappoint!

Awesome little spot in SoBro. Good dogs done right. If you are craving a hot dog, do yourself a favor and check it out.

Best hotdog in Nashville! Great variety to choose from and even the fries are delicious! Service is great...food is always served with a smile, and even more importantly, the lady at the register (I'm assuming she is either the owner or manager) never fails to thank us for our business!

If every hot dog was this good you wouldn't need to go out of your way for one this good. HDD sets the bar for Nashville's premier hot dog! All the toppings are homemade and fresh. The selection is fantastic and did I mention the crunchy, real potato fries? 5 Stars in Music City, don't deny yourself this hot dog deliciousness!

We went to Hot Diggity Dogs Saturday afternoon around 2pm. I'd heard about it from a lot of people (I am a TRUE Hot Dog LOVER lol) so we finally decided to check it out since we were in the Ville. And I have to say, WOW!!!!! BEST HOT DOG PLACE IVE FOUND YET!!!!!! From the SUPER Friendly staff, to the all-beef dogs, and ALL the different toppings... this place was AWESOME!!!! I got the chili cheese dog, and my bf had the Caro-Bama, we had 2 drinks, fries, and the Fried Pickle Spears-- YUM! All for less than $20 SUCH A GREAT LUNCH!!! I live in the Boro (about 45 mins outside Nashville) But I will return to Hot Diggity ANYtime I can!!!!! The ONLY downfall of this place are the hours... I wish they stayed open later so we could have those delicious dogs anytime :)

Great food and service, I had a hot dog and chili cheese fries both were very good. Next time I am in Nashville I will definitely stop by for lunch.

Delicious dogs! They have a ton of varieties, with slaw, pickles, chili, jalapeño, etc. I had the Chicago and it was delicious. They can also steam or grill the dog, give you a wheat bun or no bun, or replace a beef dog with a turkey dog. The fries are also amazing, although too many for one person!

I heard rumors that there was another hot dog place in Nashville which could contend with Cori's. I considered that to be a pretty lofty claim, but there was no way I wasn't going to give it a shot. Well, two dawgs later, I can affirm that Cori's and HDD are indeed on a level playing field. I tried a Nashville and a Polish Sausage (spicy version). While the slaw on the Nashville was fresh and vinegary, just the way I like it, it's the Polish Sausage that's going to be sticking around in my mind. Aside from hot chicken joints, a lot of places in Nashville tend to dial down the spice meter, but the Polish Sausage hit that perfect upper threshold, where it was pretty dawg-gone spicy but not past the point where you couldn't taste anything else. The peppers, the mustard, and the dawg itself were all of first-rate quality. If I were returning here, I would probably NOT dine-in...even at off lunch-hours on a Saturday, I could barely scramble to grab an uncomfortable bar stool with about 6 inches of counter space. However, I would eat at HDD again in a heartbeat (although eating here too often probably limits the number of remaining heartbeats one has access to).

Great dogs. Great service and staff. I eat hot dogs everywhere in my travels. Will definitely come here again.

This place is great! I've tried pretty much everything on the menu and the Texas, the Nashville, and Chicago are my favorites. They do have seasonal specials as well and some of them can be really good if you know what toppings to get. The fries. Please do get the fries. They are excellent. The service is fantastic and although indoor seating is limited, there is a covered patio out back back to accommodate approximately 20 people.

Love this place. They have the best veggie dogs in town. And the staff is always super friendly.

  • Brent E.

Absolutely love this place Get there early (11ish) at lunch to make sure you get a patio table. Go to fav is Beverly Hills dog and Onion Rings. Beverly Hills dog is perfect toppings to still let you taste the flavor of the bacon. Previous lesson learned, don't put chili on a bacon wrapped dog. You won't ever taste the Bacon upgrade you paid for. Onion Rings are awesome and were a surprise find.

I tried a Nashville and a Texas both are GREAT! Owners and staff are Pleasant & Happy to serve you. customers can't stop raving about all the many dogs and many combinations. hope to try more

Delicious, cool spot downtown, great fries, super friendly staff. Not the cheapest hot dog place but it's worth it. My only complaint would be that they use Styrofoam containers for every single dog they serve. It seems like there would definitely be a better alternative.

  • Tim M.

By far the best hot dog I've ever had. And their fried pickles also the best ever. Dining on the road with Peachtree Camera Repair.

  • Becky M.

This place was great. Very friendly service and excellent food. My only complaint was that the hot dog was small - you may need to order more than one! I just didn't want to consume that much bun so maybe offering to double-down on the meat in each dog would be my suggestion. The fried pickles are epic. I'll be back for sure.

  • Amanda L.

I absolutely love this place. It was recommended by my in-laws because they know I am a semi-connoisseur of Chicago style hot dogs. I was not disappointed. In fact, it very well may be the best Chicago dog I've ever had, and that's coming from a native Chicagoan. Get two and pair them with some cheese fries!

  • Adam R.

I love you Hot Diggity Dog. I wish you would open in Texas. Everyone go here...been around 10 years strong for a reason. Oh, and order the Nashville. The slaw is the best I've ever had. Great food, friendliest owner ever who absolutely loves what she does. I will go here literally every time I visit Nashvegas.

Hot Diggity Dog was a Yelp.com find for sure. There is no way we would have found this place otherwise. We drove through some shady areas to get there. The restaurant itself is super tiny with a small grill behind the counter and only a few stool along the wall. Outside are some covered picnic tables, where we ended up this August afternoon. There was only one fan out there, a few more would have been nice! The flavors of dogs sounded delicious. We decided on Chicago, Nashville and Texas dogs. The lady taking our order was very nice and southern-friendly. I was less impressed with the dogs. I thought they ended up a little dry. The slaw on the Nashville is made in house and had a good flavor. Again, the dogs were just dry and on the small side. The fries were OK, but I've had better at other hot dog places. I'm glad we tried it but I wouldn't be dieing to come back.

Excellent spot for dogs and sandwiches and burgers too! I had the Italian beef combo sandwich and swapped the Italian sausage dog for the beef Weiner. And with melted cheddar and mustard, it was perfectly balanced, though I prolly should have let them put the grilled peppers on there. Fries were fresh hot and thick cut. Plenty of room on the patio. Amazing weather and good food. I love this joint!

So my wife works downtown, I travel all over the place. From time to time we find the opportunity to grab lunch and it has to be close to her office. I had read about this place for a loooooong long time, but had never gotten around to it, and being that I am a devotee of encased meats in almost all situations, I decided to go in for a recon mission. It's in a cute little house just South of the new convention center and at a strange 5-way intersection. The owner, who is super energetic and friendly, asked me if I had ever been in and who told us about them. I said no and Yelp! I settled for the Chicago Dog, the Special (which is pretty much a Sonoran-style dog tucsoncitizen.com/tucson… ) and some fried pickle spears. Stop judging, dammit! I was on a mission! Anywho, it was GREAT all the way around and it wasn't very expensive. Came back with the wife and they were able to accommodate her pesky vegetarian-ness, as they have veggie and turkey dogs. You can even get whole wheat buns and pretend it's healthy! The fries are tasty, too! So get out there and get some!

Continuing on my trail of the best 25 sandwiches in Nashville per "TheCityPaper", I ordered the Italian Beef Combo and was so happily and presently surprised. The staff wasn't welcoming, but not as far as rude either -- indifferent I suppose. But I didn't really mind since it's just a deli and fast serve and you don't have to actually deal with them. I would recommend getting the dip on the side -- when the dip your sandwich it's not tastefully done; it's a full out dunk and swim and leaves your bread incredibly soggy and messy. Still tasty, but way to much dip. This is a great spot for lunch and has a nice outdoor eating area. At one point or another, I'll probably stop back. The fries make it $12 instead of $8, and I don't think they are good enough to justify that much of a price increase -- especially since the sandwich itself is so large.

Oh em gee. I went here with my co-workers randomly for lunch one day and was SO glad we did. I am super impressed by ALL the hot dogs that they have. I tried the Beverly Hills and some fries, but I am sure the others are just as awesome. :) I liked it so much that even though I got one for my boyfriend to try, I ended up eating it before I gave it to him. YEP- don't regret it all it. This just means that we will have to go back there one more time because now he knows it was great enough for me to want to eat his share! :)

I grew up in Chicago. Had my first Vienna hot dog in 1965. Hot dog and fries for 55 cents. Then I discovered polish sausages. Yum yum. And lots of onions. I grew up on steamed polish not grilled. That's how I ordered my polish the first time I found Diggity some 10 years ago. Now every time I come in, about once a month, the owner gal looks at me with a big smile and says. " steamed polish double onions." Yea, that's me. Great food and great service. Love the place! Harold B. Bowling Green KY.

I've been meaning to come to this place after seeing all the reviews for the great Chicago style hot dogs but more importantly they have Italian beef sandwiches. Here's a link where you can check out exactly what it is and then thank me: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It… So inviting another Chicago transplant with me to check it out I went last Saturday to get a taste of home. The little building is a cheery sore thumb in a bunch of warehouses, brightly colored with a boy and girl hot dog making friends, the . The staff inside was equally as friendly welcoming and it reminded very much of a mom and pop hot dog stand that seem to be going the way of the dinosaur. I got a Chicago dog, and an Italian beef sandwich drowned in gravy with hot peppers only-they serve it with sweet and hot and onions.* Fries and a coke and it came out to about 13 and some change with a much appreciated tip. The Chicago dog had everything on it, and cucumber* which is just...NO, it's just wrong, as wrong as cats and dogs living together in peace and harmony. After taking them out the rest of it was...pretty good. It had everything but it felt like it was missing something. My dining companion is a fan of Gene and Jude's in River Grove which has a completely different style of dog. She felt it was missing something as well, like something was missing. The Italian beef with giardinera (brought in from Chicago) dripped in gravy but the bread was an Italian roll but it wasn't the thick, crusty roll that can hold the gravy in and still retain loafular integrity. The bread here was softer and couldn't hold on for too long before succumbing the gravy goodness. It was good, but also just missing something, it seemed like everything was there but it didn't quite pop as much as I thought it would. It's a solid place and when I miss Chicago I'll be coming here for sure but it's not quite the same. *not Chicago authentic

Love this little *hole in the wall* ... I never get tired of the food, the people are great, and food is made to order quickly. I normally get the bacon wrapped hot dog and it's just mouth watering. Plenty of parking, locally owned and operated, and reasonably priced! 5 stars all the way!

    (5)
  • Miles H.

Absolutely amazing little hole in the wall. The menu has an assortment of hot dogs and sausages. I got the spicy Italian with cole slaw added (which I highly recommend). The sausage was delicious, the fries very crispy and salted well. The whole meal with drink was $8 and it beats any fast food for that price by a long shot. Highly recommend for a quick bite, just prepare for a mess.

Can't move. So full! This place is a gem! Small counter for ordering and a separate patio for seating. I had the Chicago dog and a set of chili cheese fries. Bomb! Pretty inexpensive for $5.25. Ladies at the counter were incredibly nice also.

I have been coming here since they originally opened, and will for as long as I am able. No beer, no tv, and the hours are not the best, but the food and service is so good you won't even notice. Best lunch spot in town.

Good place to eat. The hot dogs were good, the chili fries ok and the lady at the front super friendly. I would go back.

I've been going to this hole in the wall off the beaten path eatery for 7 years now. My favorite hotdog they sell is the Texas dog. I usually get 2 of them with either fries or onion rings. I've tried the other hotdog places around town & this is still the BEST place to buy a hotdog in Nashville @ the time of writing this review. Ordering inside is very small & cramped. They really need to expand the space where you order. The staff is friendly & so is the owner. I would give it 5 stars but the inside is too cramped for comfort.

  • Stefanie P.

There are a few 'hot dog' places in Nashville and even though I haven't tried them all this is my favorite. Nashville dog is my favorite- slaw/cucumber/pickle/mustard. I always go with grilled. Caro-Bama is another good one. Fries come in a bag, hot, and you get so many you can share with a friend. Seating is only available outside. Best to go during nonpeak lunch hours, or you'll have to wait a bit.

I've been saving up my 100th review for a few days now, trying to decide who to write about. After my recent visits to Hot Diggity Dog, I can't think of a better establishment to share this milestone with. For starters, all you haters that claim to be from Chicago and doubt the authenticity of this Chicago dog, back the plonk up (That was a euphemism, in case you didn't notice). Chicago dogs CAN have cucumber, although admittedly most of those in Chi-town don't, I've had a few around Wrigleyville that did, and it doesn't get much more authentically Chicago than Wrigleyville. Oh and what the heck is cucumber salt? Methinks you meant celery salt, and I assure you, Hot Diggity Dog's dog has the requisite form of sodium, albeit they are a little light-handed with it; I always ask for extra celery salt on my Chicago dog. Order it and you won't be sorry. Every time I go in, I struggle with deciding between a Chicago dog and a wet Italian beef sandwich loaded with spicy giardiniera that WILL have you reaching for your nearest icy cold beverage. The bun isn't as crusty as I would like, and although they do bring it in from Chicago and it's delicious, once it's been soaked in au jus it is but a matter of time before it begins to disintegrate; usually it will fall apart just as it reaches your mouth, and your mouth closes around air where beefy, spicy, juicy goodness should be. Instead the beefy deliciousness is now scattered around the table below where you were previously shoving it down your gullet. Usually I just give in to gluttony and order both a Chicago dog and an Italian beef sandwich. In a restaurant that is, essentially, only open for lunch, it is amazing to see the staff working together as they do behind the tiny counter at Hot Diggity Dog. Every time I've been in, they have four to five people crammed behind the counter, occupying a space certainly no more than 8 ft by 3 ft. Considering how many people they serve (the line is frequently out the door for the lunch rush) it's darn near amazing there isn't a catastrophic collision back there every day. Take it from a guy who has worked in tiny kitchens with other people; the staff at Hot Diggity Dog dances a ballet, every day of the week. Take that environment into account when you occasionally get some sass from the cashier/owner when you ask 25 questions about a 4 dollar hot dog (not me, a lady who ordered in front of me once). They will eventually remember you if you go often enough, and then the exchanges become fun instead of awkward. In short, if you haven't yet tried Hot Diggity Dog, GO!

Hankering for some snausages and don't have a lot of time (or money)? Stop by Hot Diggity Dogs. I had the bratwurst with onion, kraut, and ketchup. It was good, real good. Left me full and satisfied. The workers here are super nice and their logo is two dancing hotdogs.

  • Tim M.

Pulling up to the little house/building converted into a food stand, I was a bit skeptical given the industrial buildings surrounding it. Wide Assortment of hot dogs. Had the bacon wrapped dog and chili cheese fries. Chili cheese fries are some of the best I've had in Nashville and will definitely be back just for these. Friends had the Chicago, Nashville and loved them. Seating is available on a man made deck out back that can easily seat up to 40-50 people so no worries about seating. Parking can be hit or miss. This is definitely a hidden spot in Nashville.

I don't know what to say about this place. When it comes to hot dogs this is good as you'll find in Nashville. Hot Diggity Dog is a small, out of the way "hot dog shack" in a part of downtown you wouldn't wanna walk in after dark, located right behind the Union Rescue Mission. In fact, last time a friend and I went there my friend got into a shouting match with a homeless guy! Never-mind the location and never-mind that this place is too small to really eat inside. The hot dogs are out-of-this-world good. All the dogs are all-beef dogs with a bunch of stuff on 'em. Try the Chicago dog, you'll think you've died and gone to dog heaven. If you're downtown and you want something quick, cheap & good and it's not after 4:30, hot-diggity dog it over there. And what goes with best with good food... is good service. Hot Diggity Dog has both!

The dogs are good. Get the Nashville dog with some spice. Most of all the ladies who work there are so friendly and personable. I went there twice.

Since moving to Nashville, I have not had the time to really explore the Hot Dog scene and was finally glad I did and really enjoyed this experience. I was greeted at the door by a wonderful lady who I assumed was the owner. The place was moderately packed as i was there after the lunch hour. The way you order is pretty cool, but being a hot dog person, it was easy to figure out. The atmosphere was nice as I ate on the patio which was enclosed (extremely limited seating inside). I had the Boston as well as a Nashville and a side of fries. The fries were average but let me tell you about the dogs (the reason I was here in the 1st place). They could be either char-grilled or steamed. I chose the Char. The dogs has such a snap to them and a nice beef flavor. The Boston had baked beans, onions and cheese. This combined three of my favorite things and if it had bacon on it, it would have made my year. As it was, it was very good and would order this again. The other Dog was the Nashville which was dressed with slaw, mustard and onion. The toppings were fresh and really sang on the dog. Overall I would eat here again and again.

Best Hot Dog i've ever had. Brought my Dad and Mom here just cause I could. My dad kept telling me how good their slaw was, even went back to buy more in a cup lol.. We ordered the Fried Pickle Wedges just cause I was curious as to how they'd turn out when pickle chips end up comin out all soggy.. Wasn't dissapointed. Came out crisp and tasted wonderful. As for the hot dogs.. I personally got 2 Texas hot dogs (Chili, onion, and cheese).. Had trouble finishing them both just cause of how filling they are so I ended up taking one home for dinner. The people that run the place are super friendly which just makes this place even better. So, in summary if you like hot dogs do yourself a favor and check this place out!

So excited about my Chicago dog! Yumbo! If you are in the mood for hole-in-wall cuisine near the Music City Center, do stop here. Not only are the dogs good, but the fries are perfection and the ketchup is plentiful! We sat in the tented patio and had a good time.

As close to perfect as a joint ever has been. HDD has a wide selection of dog styles including quality dogs and an excellent jalapeno cheese dog. I usually take mine with mustard, slaw and a pickle. But to spice it up, try it wrapped in bacon or covered in chili. Also perfect is HDD's french fries which have a perfectly crispy outside and starchy soft inside. Really, I've never had more consistently perfect fries anywhere. I've been dropping in since shortly after they opened and the lines can be thick on a nice day like today, but well worth the wait.

I am pregnant and was seriously craving a polish sausage with all of the trimmings. I did a Yelp search and found this place. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful and the polish was the most wonderful balance of grilled onions, spicy mustard, and giardinaira peppers I've ever tasted. I will be returning!!! (TOMORROW :))

Hot Diggity Dog has the best hot dogs in town, bar none. Their Chicago dog is 99% perfect (just missing that poppyseed bun). I highly (highly) recommend the Caro-Bama dog - it's got chili, slaw, onions, mustard - their chili is homemade and delicious (I think the slaw is homemade too). Also, they have the best fries in town. Holy cow, their fries are good. Man, I love this place.

Amazing food, awesome experience!! Authentic Chicago dogs and SO much more. Every time my sister and I eat here the owner remembers us, where we are from and what we order. She makes it a welcoming place. Orders are always made fresh and great customer service. If I didn't live 45 minutes away I would be here every week!! Worth the drive every time. Thanks!!!

I always get the veggie dog here. Its good. A change from some of the other thicker fuller dogs in town. I normally get the Chicago or the Nashville. I love the bean coleslaw mix! I wish they had veggie chili but they dont. I love their fries as well. I have become a regular since I started eating here a few months ago.

As dogs and brats go, they are masters of their craft. Their Chicago dog is unbelievable. Fresh pickles, two types of peppers, deli mustard on a perfect dog is just weenie heaven. Also really enjoyed the brat with onions. perfectly cooked and the onions were bursting with grill flavor. I don't eat hot dogs alot because my waist line hates me after, but when I do, this is my spot.

My Hubby and I tried this restaurant based on the reviews we read here. Well, we were a little unsatisified. I even went back a second time hoping that the first impression wasnt the best one..well..still horrible. My husband I opted to get four hotdogs, he picked two and so did I. then we divided them in half and we both had four 1/2 sections to try. I chose the Cara-Bama and the Chicago Dogs. He chose the Texan and the Italian Sausage dogs. Pictures to follow..Out of my two, the Cara-Bama was the best and he liked both of his. I didn't like the Italian Sausage Dog at all..The Texan was pretty good. It was an okay Chicago Dog, but I wouldn't say the BEST in Nashville!!! Sodas too small for the price. The large is like $1.89 and the size of a medium..price should be just at a dolllar $.99 to $1.29 for the size..too small for the price. You have to eat outside due to the size, so bring your own drink from a gas station..bigger and cheaper.. Outside eating area isn't bad..and they have tarp cover that zips down for the winter..but good luck with that.. I advise if cold weather and you need a Hot Diggity dog due to a craving for hotdogs..get them to go.. The Texan has chili, onions and cheese..not bad The Cara-Bama was chili, onions and slaw..(not homemade and not good) You can have it grilled or steamed ..I vote STEAMED..I have had it both ways and steamed is much better. The Chicago Dog was wrong but okay..mine only had peppers, onions and pickle..it was missing some items..Tony hated it a lot..and the Italian Sausage dog with peppers and onions..nasty to me..but he liked it. So it will be your decision..I vote..eat somewhere else!!! Four hot dogs and one drink was like $17-$18...too high!!!

The woman who owns this place (I'm sorry to say I can't remember her name) is as southern and friendly as it gets. The customer service and appreciation of Hot Diggity does not go unnoticed. It is always a warm welcome and clean environment. The outdoor patio is a great addition, no matter the time of the year. It is heated when necessary (and they'll crank the heat if you ask nicely :) . I haven't tried something I didn't like -- but my favorite is the Beverly Hills Dog (bacon, mayo, chopped hot peppers, and I add sriracha to the mix!) Now when I first thought of mayo on a hotdog, I cringed, but they know what they're doing. The chili cheese fries are also delicious if you're looking to pack on the fat ;) ... Very decently priced and the best hot dog shack in town!

This place is awesome! We came across Hot Diggity Dog while wandering around downtown Nashville looking for something light to eat. The staff is fun and they know what they're doing. My friend who spent a lot of time in Chicago said it was just as good, if not better, than the real thing. Highly recommend.

Got the Polish sausage. It was exactly like the ones I would get back in Chicago. I will definitely be going back.

Let's be honest - have I found a bad hot dog place yet? I didn't think so. This hole-in-the-wall has been on my to-do list for about a year...but I've never had any clue where it was. For a long time, I kind of thought that it and I Dream of Weenie may be the same establishment merely based on the fact that I had no clue where Ewing Street is (they are not). While it would normally be odd not to know where Ewing Street is when you used to work across the street from it...it's not really a neighborhood you wander around. It's off of Lafayette on Ewing...in basically the last place you'd ever expect anything...seriously. This neighborhood is not up-and-coming. It's not "hipster". It's warehouses and sketchville. If this were an old Opryland area, it would be Grinder's Sketch and it would be the sketchy part behind Doo Wah Diddy City. The Rescue Mission next door classes up the neighborhood. What I'm saying is...the neighborhood is a bit sketchy. The hot dogs, however, are not in the least bit sketchy. I had a Nashville dog - it had slaw, cucumbers, some other deliciousness...grilled to perfection. All beef. All OHMYGODIT'SDELICIOUS. The menu is fairly simple, but the hot dogs are delicious and cheap. They also have some pretty delicious (and greasy - I could see through the bag by the time it got to the table) fries and onion rings. They have a deck out back, plenty of seating. It's actually a pretty cool little place. More importantly, the staff was absolutely, ridiculously friendly and made everyone there feel like a regular. I don't know at what point Nashville became a hot dog mecca, but I've seriously yet to find the hot dog place in Nashville that I would not revisit - Hot Diggity Dog, Cori's, I Dream of Weenie, The Dog...they're all good. Try them all. As for this one...friendly staff, delicious hot dogs, doesn't break the bank. Pretty sure that's why they named the place Hot Diggity Dog.

While Cori's Doghouse still wins as my favorite Hot Dog place in Nashville, Hot Diggity Dog is no slouch. It's easily my second favorite, and without question the very best Chicago Hot Dog this side of Chicago. Parking is pretty limited and there are only a few indoor seating options, but prices are good and the staff is very friendly. If you are in the mood for a Chicago Hot Dog, stop in and enjoy!

Just went and tried Hot Diggity Dog yesterday for lunch thanks to some recommendations from Chicago peeps. Good stuff! Went with the Chicago dog and the Nashville dog; loved the Nashville with slaw and (though it wouldn't be my choice every time) the Chicago is one you have to try it. Peppers were mild but flavorful. My brother tried the Italian Sausage (he was surprised how good it was) and the corndog was seriously great. Fries are also crazy good; I'm saying they're the best in town. Would not have thought about a hot dog place on my own, but really enjoyed it. The owner Gale is great with new folks and *so* appreciates all the support from people wanting to try her restaurant.

Chicago dogs in a weird part of Nashville? Yes please! Great, quick southern service. No nonsense. There are a lot of choices as far as different dogs are concerned, I had the classic Chicago, which was almost as good as any I had when visiting the Windy City. The kids in front of us were treated nicely by the kitchen staff, and they got little gummy weiners (ha) while they waited. We had fried pickles, but they were thick and underwhelming; I have high standards for these, though.

You really gotta appreciate when people bring other cultures into Nashville, especially when they do em right. You're not gonna get another Chicago Dog that is more on point than here. If you're not a fan of hotdogs... then what's wrong with you? This place clearly has an owner who cares about quality. And when you're talking bout hotdogs, quality better matter to you. GOOD JOB Hot Diggity Dog!

Awesome hot dogs! Kind of off the beaten path a bit but it is worth finding. Do yourself a favor and try some of the specialty dogs rather than going simple. You will be glad you did. I tried the Chicago and it was incredible. I know were just talking about hot dogs here but you will crave this place after one visit. Small place and can get busy but the service was great and quick. I am pretty picky about my hot dogs...I am from Boston and am used to Fenway Franks at the park but these are right up there.

Let's put it this way...I went on Tuesday, and went back on Saturday. They've got one heck of a good dog...and, cheap! (around $3 each) The owner, or manager (not sure) is a spitfire from Alabama & happy as heck to answer any questions. She said the 2 bestsellers were the Chicago Dog & the Nashville. Had the Nashville on Tuesday & the Chicago on Saturday. I prefer the Nashville. Since I love pickles, I had to try the fried pickle spears. They are super-delish & not nearly as salty as most I've had. Their dogs are 100% beef, but they offer a veggie version & a whole wheat bun. You order at the counter & walk out the back to a deck of picnic tables. When the weather is cool, they zip the plastic flaps & turn on the portable heaters. Can't wait to go back & have the brat!

Good hot dogs, super friendly staff. Hubs and I tried the Chicago, Boston, and New York on our trip and very much enjoyed the quick, casual lunch. Tip - Skip the french fries and get the fried pickle spears! They were my favorite thing.

Being a Chicago native and a foodie, I'm a bit of snob when it comes to Chicago dogs. I'll give it a B+. No steamed or poppyseed bun and cucumber instead of cucumber salt. That being said, service was very friendly. Fries were hot and cheese sauce rocked as well. I'm a fan and I'll be back....

What a pleasant surprise. Visiting Nashville with my wife, 18 year old daughter and two of her friends, we searched for a quick and cheap Saturday lunch spot we could walk to from the Hampton Inn. A quick 10 minute walk landed us at Hot Diggety Dog. This hot dog stand would do well back in my home town of Chicago. The owner(?) provided us with a bit of sass and attitude all delivered with a smile and a sweet southern accent. We all had hotdogs. Two girls had corn dogs which were piping hot and excellent. The other girl had the "Nashville" with slaw and cucumbers. It looked like a salad from the top. My wife built her own with slaw and relish and pickles which she enjoyed. I want for the chilli-cheese dog which was very good.. The dogs were proper Vienna all beef dogs from Chicago. Mine was steamed and had a good snap as you bit into it. All of this and I failed to mention the fries! They were some of the best I've had. Not skinny like McDonalds or fat like steak fries. These were in between in size but wer hot and just the right amount of crisp... no wimpy, soggy fries here. We ate our dogs in the "dining room" out back. This is a tent type structure with picnic tables and heat! This wouldn't work in Chicago but was just right for the South in March. It was a hit and I fed the five of us for less than $30! All together this was a success. Highly recommended.

Tried the nashville, chicago, and chili dogs. I'm not a fan of the types of frankfurters that they use... all beef, but not as much flavor as I am used to. I guess I am more of a sausage person than actual beef dogs. The fries were really crispy which I liked. The patio seating in the back is enclosed in a tent so there is some sheltered eating space. Owners are super nice and friendly.

I am a huge fans of small eateries that do primarily one thing with a limited menu as a specialty - and this definitely qualifies. Hot Dogs. If you love Hot Dogs then this is a great place to go. I've been 3 or 4 times. It's walking distance from my office. The service is friendly - super friendly. They work with a sense of urgency (rare in Nashville) which is also nice. The fries are great! I usually get the Nashville (topped with cole slaw!) but on my last visit I had 2 Chicago dogs which I had never had before. They were delicious! Wonderful and fresh ingredients. I love that you can choose to have a wheat bun. They also have sausages and other kinds of meat including veggie dogs. If you want a great dog then this is the place to go!

We were in Nashville on vacation. We live in Chicago, so we had our doubts about their "great Chicago dog." One bite removed all doubts. Delicious! The staff was so friendly and welcoming. The food was so fresh and delicious. Fries were hot and had just the right amount of salt. The building and location are unimpressive, but the food was fantastic.

  • Cara P.

Yep. Yep. That's a real Chicago hot dog! You know even before you get it, because you can see the scary-not-found-in-nature-shade green relish in their condiments case. And they put everything on it that's supposed to be there: celery salt, the aforementioned Frankenrelish, tomato, onion, sport peppers, and cucumber (and, in a slight improvement over dogs in Chicago, the cucumber slices are smaller, so they stay in the bun & mix well with the other condiments). And the brown bag fries--jeez, that's hard to find even in Chicago! Ok, slams: limited seating & all outdoors. My cheese fries came with the cheese on top, and I prefer it on the side (please note, this is not shredded melted cheese---it's probably only distantly related to cheese---and is exactly what it should be for a dog place's cheese fries). That's not really a slam, though, since I'm pretty sure they'd serve it on the side for me if I asked. I'll just have to remember next time. Oh, and while my husband's Italian beef was good (and they know to ask you whether you want it dipped, and even how much you want it dipped), I personally would prefer that the roll not be toasted. I think the roll should be soft. Still, it's a good roll. Oh, and if you order the Chicago dog, they will ask you if you want it steamed, but they're pretty much assuming that you do if you bothered to order it in the first place. They're only open from 10 to 4:30, and not on Sundays. This is probably good because if they were open convenient hours I'd go there way too often.

One of my absolute favorites to go to when I am home. The Chicago dog is the bombsky! You can get it with a veggie dog, like me, or the meaty version. The women who own this place are pure Southern niceness.

    (5)
  • Chad R.

The Bomb. I used to eat lunch here twice a week when I worked in the area.. now I take all of my guests here whenever possible. If I can come up with any excuse to eat out, you'll see me there. Especially when the weather is nice enough to use the deck.

For my money, Hot Diggity Dog has the best dogs in town. Nothing else even comes close. I've loved every dog I've tried there but the Italian sausage is where it's at. Yum. Also, no review of Hot Diggity Dog would be complete without mentioning their amazing fries. Seriously, you can't understand until you try them. They just might be the best fries I've had in my entire life. Prices are very reasonable as you can get a more than satisfying meal for less than $10. To top it all off, the owner and staff are always friendly and very helpful if you have any questions. The ONLY negative about HDD is the size of the place. It's small. It's beyond small. If you go during peak lunch hours be prepared to be packed in uncomfortably close to strangers for 15-20 minutes while you wait to place and receive your order. But hey, it's well worth the minor inconvenience. It's crowded because the food is so good. There is very limited seating inside and a covered patio outside with several picnic tables. So if the weather isn't ideal I'd suggest taking your order to go. Yeah, you could sit inside if there is available seating. But the way the place is set up the line for people waiting to order is bumped right up against the dining space. I've never actually eaten inside but from the looks of it I can't imagine it being too comfortable. I prefer a little bit of personal space when I eat. Still, this isn't a big enough complaint to keep me from giving this place a 5-star rating. Honestly, I think the size and setup of the place gives it some extra personality. Bottom line, if you live in the area there's absolutely no excuse to not give them a shot. It will no doubt be the first of many, many trips. And if you don't live nearby but happen to be in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by.

Very friendly service and since I was a first timer, the employees took time to explain the menu to me. The hot dogs are good and I've heard the fries are amazing but unfortunately I was too full to try some after eating two hot dogs.

Hot-Diggity-Dog is as close to an authentic Chicago-style hotdog place as you'll find in the South, down to the women working the counter who are the southern equivalents of the gnarled Greeks who run these places in Chicago - they won't take your crap and you had better be ready to order when you step up. The place is small, I think we were lucky to find a table outside - granted, it was the lunch-hour rush. But long lines usually mean good food, so be willing to wait. At first, I turned up my nose at the idea of cucumbers on a "Chicago-Style" dog, as would any Midwestern self-proclaimed hotdog connoisseur. But, I was persuaded and I will admit that it was not a bad addition to the traditional version - mustard, onions, green relish, pickles, tomatoes, hot peppers, and celery salt. The dogs were Vienna Beef - which makes me miss home - and were available steamed (think hot water bath) and charred. Go charred, it gives you a nice little snap when you bite into it. All-in-all I really enjoyed my experience here and will be going back - I've been told that I need to try the "Nashville" dog. The prices are a little higher than I would have expected - $8.24 for two hotdogs, fries, and a coke.

Nothing beats a good hot dog. Nothing. Well, maybe that's going a bit too far. Anywho, the variety of hot dog styles will satisfy most any dog eaters cravings. The price is decent, the service is fast, and the people behind the counter won't waste your time or their own. No nonsense. All the dogs here pretty much rock. My only criticisms: 1. The kraut leaves something to be desired. Kinda falls flat and lacks flavor. 2. The dogs occasionally spend a little too much time on the grill during the lunch rush and may come out a little dry on occasion. Other than that, HDD always hits the spot. Great dogs with great options. Worth a visit.

  • Scott G.

GREAT hot dogs! Unless things have changed in the last year, it's tiny and it's best to go there during non-peak times. No "practical" place to eat inside. It's worth the time to plan around that, though. BUT there is an outside deck but it can get pretty full , as well (peak hours, that is).

What's not to like about hot dogs? Well, there is certainly a lot to love about Hot Diggity Dogs. Prior to eating here, the only other place I had been to that exclusively serves hot dogs was Nathan's, sad I know. One thing I fancy about Hot Diggity Dogs is that they give you the choice of having a grilled dog (what I like) or one broiled in water (like my grandmother used to make...ew). Obviously they have all the fixins for the dogs like relish, onion, etc. Of course I have tried their fries, but I prefer to go with my standard order of 2 dogs with mayo, onion, and a pickle. Every time I go to this place, it seems like they are playing that song "Who let the dogs out!", maybe that's just me...

Simply the best hot dogs and french fries in the city. Try the Charred Nashville with slaw. Great place if you want to grab a brown bag and run back to work. Not really an eat-in sort of joint. Super nice owners.

A pretty authentic Chicago hot dog shack, with an especially tasty "Nashville" dog (coleslaw, mustard, pickle and cucumber) plus a few other satisfying varieties (all steamed or charred). Long lines on weekdays, much faster on Saturday, only open 10 to 4 (you don't want to be in this neighborhood at night anyway).

Stay away from this place. I got a hot dog to go. I took one bite and the taste was so bad I threw the remainder in the trash. My friend was with me and also had a hot dog. He made the mistake of eating his hot dog and was sick with gastrointestinal problems a couple of hours later. To make matters worse, we waited over 20 minutes for 2 turkey hot dogs. I will never go here again and will tell everyone I know about my experience.

Family and I ate here for lunch today. Boy am I glad we did. We just relocated to Nashville from Chicago a few months ago; I'm 5 months pregnant and have been craving a Maxwell Street polish for about a good month now. I'm always skeptical at trying "Chicago Style Hot Dog" joints outside of Chicago because they never really are true to the real thing. The only thing missing here was the poppy seed bun! But who cares? They even made a combo (Italian sausage and Italian beef) sandwich for my husband, even though it's not on the menu. I swear I thought the man was going to cry. They gave us a free order of fried pickles, When I looked at the lady behind the counter in surprise, she smiled and winked. Me being the emotional pregnant lady, got a little too emotional from the sweetness. When I got out to where my boys were, my husband asked what was the matter and I told him how great everyone was. he smiled and just said, "I'm in a lot of trouble, this place is too close to my work." Thanks Hot Diggity Dog! You really made a homesick girl, feel a bit closer to home and a lot more welcomed in Nashville.

Let me begin by saying...wow I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. Driving down Ewing you'll see the red roofed house that is known as Hot Diggity Dogs. If you are a native of Chicago you know what a Chicago style dog is. For those who don't know...taken from Wikipedia: "A Chicago-style hot dog is a steamed or boiled, never broiled all-beef hot dog on a poppy seed bun, which originated in the city of Chicago, Illinois. The hot dog is topped with mustard, onion, sweet pickle relish (usually a dyed neon green variety called "Nuclear Relish"), a dill pickle spear, tomato slices or wedges, pickled sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt; sometimes, but not always, cucumber slices." The cornucopia of flavors and textures will win you over. Cool, crisp, hot...all having a get down. The fine ladies at Hot Diggity Dogs do Chicago justice. You really can't find a better dog in Nashville.

This may be my last review or participation on Yelp.....but wanted to help these good people first. It's a very quaint and cool place, open for lunch and during the afternoon. Hot dogs in pretty much any variety, and really good carnival style French fries as well. Really great outdoor screened patio out back with music at just the right volume. Lots of business people in and out. Really good tasting hot dogs and fries, and VERY friendly owner and staff. I love the intimate feel.....and she even told me whatever online presence they have, she doesn't know about because she built it all by word of mouth and local networking.....yet many of us who have been there are their online voice. Great place to go have lunch after shopping at Dury's or Plaza Art :)

Hot dogs. Love them! And what hot dog fan doesn't love a place devoted entirely to this culinary wonder?! You can get your dogs steamed or charbroiled (fancy way to say grilled) and with a variety of toppings. Me? I get mine "extra gross"--this is what a friend of mine terms it, not an official menu item--just with ketchup and mayo only. Weird I know. But, I hear that their Chicago dog is top notch, and the Nashville dog (slaw, mustard and onions) has quite the following as well. For you vegetarians out there, yes there are options for you! Veggie dogs and burgers are on the menu. So are Polish and Italian sausages and bratwurst for the ultra meat lovers. Seating is limited--pretty non-existent inside this tiny place; there are a few window ledge seats. Outside, there is a nice covered patio with 6 or 7 picnic tables, so if it's a nice day, have a seat out there! Beat the lunch crowd and go at 11 or 1, but anywhere in between and the line is out the door--it's a popular place!

Outstanding. Outside of Smith's hot dogs in Erie, PA, these are the best hot dogs I've ever tasted. And they have the full condiment experience to boot. I can recommend both the Chicago dog (very authentic - mustard, neon green relish, tomato and a pickle slice) and the Italian sausage (get it all the way, with pickled carrots celery and onion, hot and sweet peppers and mustard). The fries are fairly thick, crispy and salty. Nice outdoor seating area in the back for a nice day. Otherwise, it's mostly a takeout place because there's not much room to sit inside.

I was in Nashville with my wife for a mini vacation and I was excited to check this place out. It turned out to be a bit of a walk from our hotel and in a somewhat sketchy area, but it was worth it. A woman took a good 3-4 minutes explaining their menu and how they prepared their food. I had a Chicago dog and a Nashville dog and boy were these hot dogs good. I live in Chicago and while it wasn't the best Chicago dog I have had, it was still good. The Nashville dog was the real star though with excellent slaw, onions, and mustard on top of a steamed dog. The slaw was so fresh and creamy and went so well with the rest of the toppings. The fries were good and they have a nice patio area with picnic tables to sit at. Bon appetit!!

Love it! My friend took me here when I was new to Nashville and now it's one of my places I like to show to new people. Amazing hotdogs and fries. I am regularly a plain with mustard person but listened to the little gal at the register (who happens to be the owner that is a self proclaimed "hotdog afficionado"). Try the Nashvillean. So good. So good. Homemade daily slaw sweetened with a tad of sugar. Great place. Great ladies. I can't wait for spring to take advantage of the porch and buy some t-shirts. The atmosphere is 1/2 the experience so enjoy! Amazing pricing! Lunch on a budget. She closes at 4:30p on weekdays.

It's been at least a year since I've eaten here, but I love it. I had a veggie dog and my husband had a hot dog. Both were delicious. If it's nice outside, the seating is wonderful. If it's not nice, I suggest to-go. If you like hot dogs (or think you might), eat here!

Like all native Chicagoans, I am hard-wired to love encased meats. So yes, the chardogs here are good. The handcut fries are righteous too. But, whoa, hold up, wait a minute.... what is that? Is that CUCUMBER on my Chicago Dog?!? no no no. You need to pickle that thing first, please. Also, in Chicago, you would get stabbed for tacking Cubs and White Sox banners to the same wall. You gots to pick a team. (fyi, their competition, The Dog of Nashville chose wisely by displaying only White Sox stuff.) Other than that, I totally dig what they're doin'.

When that craving for unexplained cased meat in tube form hits you there is no better place to hit then Hot Diggity Dog. Its all about the Nashville Dog here the home made sweet cole slaw on top of a hot dog with a pickle is pure genius. Don't forget a sack of the fries.

  • Matt L.

I decided to give this two tries before I rated it, as I had done the same for most of the other hot dog joints I had tried. The first time, I had the dog steamed, and steamed dogs just don't cut it. However, upon my second visit, I discovered the joys of their grilled dogs. These were outstanding. Suffice to say, no steamed dog will ever get any decent rating in my reviews, so other forms, be it roasted, grilled, or even fried will rate better. I also ought to feel the need to note that I always order my dogs the same, ketchup and onions. These will almost always provide a uniform experience, while a Chicago Dog could be influenced by the quality of the pickle, pepper, or tomato. I concern myself with the meat, and this is very good, but not great. One thing that I like about it is the friendly staff, who are more than happy to chat with you if they're not taking orders. They even offered my son a candy hot dog for free, even before I ordered. I had been to several places where the service was not good, but the dogs themselves were excellent (Fat Mo's, for instance), but the excellent experience in the tiny shop makes up for the slightly less than ultimate dog flavor.

I simply love this quaint little place. There hotdogs are made of pure beef brisket- no Oscar Wieners here! my personal favorite: the Nashville Dog. Grilled dog topped with fresh homemade cole slaw with a long sliced pickle on top. Yum! $2.50/hot dog and well worth it. One can easily eat two or more.

I am a fan! While I question the authenticity of their beef sandwiches and was dumbfounded by the fact they didn't know what a gravy bread is..they are spot on the hot dogs! Which is what their namesake is right? ;) I am from Chicago and miss the food there! I enjoy going to enjoy a Chicago hot dog but they also offer alot o different options for those of you that don't know what's good .... lol :) Give it a try and see if you agree!

They have turkey hot dogs!! And they are AHHHmazing!! I like the Boston dog and the New York dog. The service is always fast, the staff is uber friendly, the prices are cheap, and they are by far the best hot dogs I've ever had. I've made the trip on numerous occasions from Murfreesboro to Nashville to get my turkey dog fix!

This place was great! Little whole in the wall place to grab a unique hot dog. Has nice outdoor area for seating, friendly employees, great tasting dogs. If you over in this area of Nashville, you must try this place!

The should be a frigging World Heritage Site! Awesome dog and sausages. Chicago, New York styles you name it. And it's Super cheap. If you want a Hot Dog or sausage in Nashville and you want the best there is no where else to go. It's a bit in the "'hood" but during the day your fine. The staff are super nice for the amount of volume that goes through this place.
