This is such a nice little restaurant and great place to meet up for dinner and drinks. We live right across the street and we've never had an issue other than when they are super slammed. When they get that busy then the service starts to become less and further in between, not really their fault, just kinda unfortunate at times. Otherwise their food is amazing, I get the chile verde carnitas almost every time with an order of their chorizo queso, sooooo good. There may be more authentic places out there, but for something friendly and easy, go here.

Solid Mexican food here. I'm never disappointed but never blown away either. Some decent vegetarian food options here as well. The food is very Americanized Mexican food like what you might get at las palmas etc. The portions are always large and the service has been good for the most part. Would be awesome if people were not allowed to smoke on the patio.

El Sombrero is a solid place to eat in Lenox Village. The margaritas are flavorful, the service is excellent, and the food is yummy. I went for lunch on a Saturday and had a Mango Margarita on the rocks for under $5. Needless to say, I took a nap shortly afterwards. I have had some overly salty food at times, but other than that I have enjoyed everything I have ordered. I like that they have a vegetarian menu, a seafood menu, and items not typically offered at a Mexican restaurant. They are in the Camino Real restaurant group of which I am NOT a fan, but El Sombrero tastes better. Great for to-go.

This place is super-popular (don't try to go on a Friday night, or you'll be waiting outside for a while...), but my husband and I weren't that impressed. The food is fine, but there are a ton of great Mexican places along Nolensville that have more authentic food for lower prices (if you don't want to go far, Fogatas at the corner of Old Hickory and Nolensville is one of our favorites). While it's not bad, I think the appeal here has to be the location in Lenox Village. We've eaten here several times because we live in Lenox Village and sometimes we get lazy, but it's never been a "wow" food experience. In fact, the one time I made the mistake of ordering a salad, I was sorely disappointed by the iceberg lettuce with one unripe tomato and raw onion slices that I received. Granted, one doesn't go to Mexican restaurants for a salad, but the traditional Mexican food there never stood out from Las Palmas or any other Americanized Mexican chains. Drive a bit further down Nolensville; there may not be a patio, but you'll get more authentic food at lower prices!

Solid Mexican food, and even at the busiest times usually not more than a 10 minute wait. The weekday drink specials are great, and the margaritas are strong. Would recommend.

Excellent! I can honestly say that this by far has to be some of the best Mexican food in the Nashville area! I decided to come to this place with my cousin and friends while visiting here in Nashville! After being recommended this restaurant I of course had to come to yelp and check the reviews and look at the pictures! I knew before arriving that's pitcher of the top shelf margaritas and the sizzling fajitas was going to be ordered! Upon arriving, my party of 4 was promptly greeted and escorted to the outside patio! It was a beautiful night last night so we figured why not? The waiter we had was extremely friendly as well as very informative of the menu! Even after his recommendations I was still sold on my margaritas and sizzling fajitas!

Really good food. Typical mexican restaurant offerings. Service was a bit slow, but I was eating by myself so maybe the server just didn't pay that much attention.

I was here very long time when I visited TN for three months. I'm surprised that I still remember the name and place. I remember that food was great and I enjoyed every meal I had here

I must say I have had many types of mexcian food but this place right here is just great. This is the best mexican food I have had too bad I don't live in the Nashville area tho. Got the special of the day. Food was seasoned perfectly! The cheese dip was just amazing... Not to add they have free wifi

Excellent Mexican Food! The Filet Tampiueno (tilapia) is great and so are the fajitas. Also, try the guacamole casero as an appetizer. It is my all-time favorite!

Excellent food and service again. Saturday 7.99 fajitas + beverage special. Great deal!

Some of the best Mexican in Nashville! Always great service! Fresh salsa and the margaronas are awesome! Try the nachos pastor - spicy pork and pineapple, YUM!

Let's get one thing straight right off the bat. If you are looking for something trendy where people are all dressed up and drinking fancy drinks - this isn't the place for you. If you are still reading - and looking for a good Mexican restaurant with reasonable prices and strong drinks - look no further! Its super casual with a 'come as you are' attitude. Its right across the street for Pie in the Sky (another favorite of mine) in the Lenox Village area on Nolensville Rd. During warmer weather a friend and I are known to share a couple pitchers of margaritas and chow down on some good, fresh Mexican food on the outside patio. If you go any night of the week during the spring and summer - you'll find the patio packed. Personally - I enjoy the shredded beef chimichanga which has the glorious melted white queso over it with beans and rice (7.99). The chips and salsa are great as is the queso dip (2.99 for the queso dip on the side). I also enjoy their tacos (a little over a dollar for 1 beef taco). The shells are very fresh and light with a generous amount of crumbled queso fresco cheese. (I know I've mentioned the cheese 3 times now - but its soooo good in all the ways they serve it). Most every night they have a drink special of some sort. However, I love the pitchers of margaritas!! They can be strong, of course...but they are cheap. Around 15 bucks for a pitcher and it is a BIG pitcher. Buying a couple margaritas elsewhere would cost you a much. So, usually - dinner, drinks and tip - I'm out the door for around 30 bucks. But we have split 2 pitchers, had a great dinner with chips, salsa and queso (the queso is extra). If you come there enough (I do) they start to get to know you. The servers are always friendly and they always want to make sure you had a good time. Oh, and I almost forgot - I recently had their sangria. It was incredible. You have to try it too! Check the board when you come in - they'll have their drink specials listed there. If you are looking for a great place to go to have some good, authentic mexican food for not a lot of money - I have to recommend El Sombrero.

I would like to update this place to 4 stars. We've been back several times now, and I have walked out a happy (and stuffed!) camper every time. I'm not sure what happened our first visit, but the service has been quite good every other time we have gone. I recently discovered their pulled pork, carnitas style. Heaven! Get the pork in the Burrito Verde or a chimichanga (not on the menu, but they will do it if asked). It's delicious! I also have tried their rice since my last review, and I gotta say, it's pretty tasty. I don't usually go for the rice at Mexican restaurants, but I love the rice here. I suspect a naughty ingredient such as lard or butter, but that's just fine with me. Keep it comin'! Once last thing....they keep it cold in there, so bring a sweater or request seating on the patio.

Excellent Mexican food combined with great service. Some of the specials offered during the week are top notch as well.

They have really great food. I love their quesadillas and their salsa. It can be pretty busy (like most restaurants in the area) around lunch and dinner. They're pretty quick about rolling people in and out, though. They have some of the best beans and rice, too.

Carlos was fantastic!! Food was so fast and delicious. Will be back frequently I'm sure!

I am in this place 4-6 times a month on business and pleasure dining. In other words, this place is a "go to" because of the location. It took more than 40 minutes to get Nachos Real. It arrived cold, a third of the plate was "missing" food, and took f o r e v e r to be delivered. I informed the manager, the server, and the cashier to which they all replied "we are busy." They forgot to apologize, to fill the plate, heat up the food, discount the check and how to treat a customer (even a regular) because they "are busy." They didn't forget to charge me $14 the horrible experience. Sadly, I am coming in with a ONE STAR review. I don't like to give these to a business, but this place really bombed in terms of food, service, and poor management. Bummer.

Thick chips, puréed salsa. Fajitas were tasteless. The staff was nice but I was not impressed.

As always, we sat at the bar and like most Mexican restaurants, you never know who is waiting on your when you sit it at the bar. Regardless, everyone we came into contact with was very pleasant! The chips and salsa were good.....nothing to write home about, but no complaints. I wish I could remember what else we had for dinner, but I can't because it was about a month ago. Either way, it came out SUPER fast (in case you want to relax and have a drink before dinner, keep that in mind). The quality of the food was good, fresh and very hot, but not very exciting.

Really good Americanized Mexican food. We went to the trendy burger place nearby but it was an hour wait. Since we have a one-year old that was a no go. Came here, 5 min wait. Sat down, got the large beer which is huge and cheap. Fajitas are very goo, huge (single order is easily 2 full dinner orders) and, again, cheap. Our new go-to Mexican place.

I have stopped by here several time in the last few weeks and I like the friendly, consistent service. The chips are always plentiful and warm. The bathroom is updated and has always been clean. The staff are nice and eager to please. I have some crazy, self-imposed, dietary restrictions so I usually only eat the Carne Asasda at Mexican restaurants. El Sombrero's version is called the Guiso Mexicano and it is very good. A generous portion of grilled steak with peppers and onions, beans and rice. This dish also comes with tortillas for those who like to wrap! This meal is hard to beat for $6.99 on the lunch special. They also offer discounts to police officers.

Having lived in Nashville my whole life, when you think cheap Mexican you think Las Palmas. After moving near El Sombrero a few years ago, it's the only place we go to now. Good food and portion sizes for a reasonable price. Fajitas tejanas is a must.

I don't care what anyone says, you won't get a more well balanced, Mexican/American, well priced dinner than El Sombrero. Yes...I have had more unique Mexican food in my life, but I'm not looking for that everyday. El Sombrero is the type of place you can go and know you are getting a great, fresh, meal at an extremely reasonable price! The staff is super friendly and if you have any issues, they are more than willing to accommodate you. Yes, I have had service issues from time to time, but I go there at least once a week and now that I am writing a review I might go there tomorrow because my mouth is watering. Let's be realistic, it's a restaurant and service all depends on the day. Most of the time when a server isn't giving me the service I am used to at El Sombrero, I can only assume they are trying to appease the absurdly picky people. You know...the people who write bad reviews with no real heart behind them. They are the ones who run the servers all over the place because they think they are the only people on the planet and can't get their crap together. I know this because I waited tables for many years in my younger life. The bottom line is, if you want to have a great meal, maybe enjoy an adult beverage on the patio, and want to pay less than any other restaurant in the Nashville area...El Sombrero Lenox Village is tough to beat.

Awesome happy hour drink specials and inexpensive every day food prices. Good food and quick service. Were able to accommodate my gluten allergy

I agree with some of the other reviews, this place is not an upscale, trendy restaurant. However, if you have pulled up their location online or driven by, this should not come as a shock. That being said, it is worth a visit. The casual, laid back atmosphere is welcoming and the staff is extremely friendly. It's not the most authentic Mexican food in the area but it is consistently good and priced well.

The food here seems on the expensive side. I've had a basic combo before for lunch and it was really good. The margaritas are just ok. The staff is friendly and I would definitely go back if I'm in the area. It's right on par for the stuff in Lenox Village.

I can't really understand all the 5 star reviews here. Sure it is okay but this is just standard mexican fare with the same menu you can find at any of the other 42390 mexican clone restaurants in Nashville. You know what I mean, any place that you could find a "speedy gonzales" on the lunch specials falls into this category. As economical as "the hat" might be, the reality is you can travel just a little further up Nolensville road and find cheaper, more authentic, and tastier mexican food. This place is not the worst though. In fact for a clone it is above average. They have a small patio (which gets really packed in the summer), happy hour specials even on Friday, and they have a carnitas plate that is so tender it is obviously simmered on low heat for quite a long time. Just like other standard mexican joints the portions are huge, the margaritas taste pre-mixed, a bowl of chips will be presented shortly after you sit down, and the prices are pretty low. For a cheap night to get insanely full by shoving cheap chips in your mouth and buzzed by pouring dos equis down your throat, this place is a winner.

Not bad. Not bad at all but nothing to write home about. There are a couple of very good dishes, the Arandas special is very very good. Enough to share.

First time I didn't give a tip. Waiter was inattentive. I don't know why only 1 person can speak English when I came in. The plate was scalding hot and I asked if they just microwaved the food. They said that everything was cooked fresh...(oh and was left in fridge so you can microwave it later???) Don't lie to customers, please. Oh, and when I asked to have my drink to go, the waiter tried to charge me extra. My experience was far from my expectation as a first timer in this restaurant. I felt like the waiters wanted me to get out of the restaurant. Not really rude...but the service was a little impolite.

Look no further!!! Jennifer, I think you meant guacamole casero! And you are so right! It's amazing! You should try "tacos Mexican style" I get then with corn tortillas and carnitas filling. Ask for limes to squeeze over them once you've loaded it with cilantro and onions! Devine I tell you! Hubs would eat nothing but Mexican if I could. We recently just started comin back and I have missed it so. It's a drive thing for us but man oh man, once you have that first bite after being gone so ling, you know it's worth the extra drive and worth passing las palmas (slow service and no flavor) and Cinco de Mayo (bad salsa). The service is amazing and attentive. Alot of the same servers are still there. There are 2 or 3 we try to avoid but they are newer and I am sure once they are up to speed it'll get better. It's a "repeat offender joint". They always greet you, remember you, treat you great and make you happy. So remember, bean dip, guacamole casero, tacos Mexican style with carnitas filling and lime or the burrito verde. Mmmm mmmm mmmm. HEAVEN!!! Oh and lastly! Dos Equis XX Amber in draft in ice cold cups and awesome marggies = pure heaven!! LOL

Ate here with my wife and one year old son for dinner on a Friday night. The staff were very courteous and the service was great. Not sure where most of the reviews saying the service was poor came from. Our favorites were the ceviche and the shrimp tacos. We will definitely be going back.

Very casual and affordable - I give it 5 stars in that category! The fajitas are very very good....and order the guacamole fresca (I'm tno 100% I have that name right) - it's a rough chopped version (rather than pureed) and is so fresh and delicious with the chips. Mmm! Nothing fancy, but everything delicious! PS - the restaurant is located across from Lennox Village. At least on my browser, the little YELP map is showing it in the wrong place - it's about 2 miles south of OHB on Nolensville Rd.

This is really close to where my finance and I live so we eat there quite often when we don't feel like cooking! The prices are very reasonable and the food is very good. They have excellent specials each day of the week too if you want to get even better deals. Service is always good as well. My only complaint depending on the cook they have that day the food can taste very different. Particularly the fajitas can be the best thing you ever had or the worst. Since it is our favorite thing on the menu I can tell when we have the good cook! But seriously, overall 5 stars in my book anyway.

My husband, son, and I eat at El Sombrero at least once per week. Obviously, we love it and it is by far the best Mexican restaurant I have experienced in Nashville. ORDER THE CHICKEN FAJITAS!!! They are the best and the salsa is always a little spicy which I love. The drinks are cheap and during the week they run 2 for 1 margarita specials. We go not only because the food is great but because it's so clean and the service is amazing! We have eaten at the restaurant towards closing and seen the waiters wiping down the booths and high chairs with sanitizer. Most importantly, this place is definitely kid friendly. They usually give the kids candy after the meal, they have clean high chairs, and they make my son feel like a celebrity when he visits. He smiles as soon as we walk in the door.

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! We live across the street and we walk over for dinner and drinks. Everything on the menu is fantastic, the servers are so nice, friendly, courteous and speedy. The drinks are great and the low prices make it easy to have a few rounds! This restaurant is perfect for a fun date night, Girls Night Out , family reunion and everything in between!

This is a definitely a great place to have Mexican food in and around Lenox Village. With an impressive choice of tequilas (almost 25) and free chips and salsa, one can unwind under the stars outside or inside, amidst the neat decor. The waiter was extremely friendly and accommodated our vegetarian needs. Why this place gets 4 stars is that it one of the few Mexican joints which readily made me a veggie chimichanga. This is the stuff I used to dig when I went to school and habituated a neat Mexican restaurant and ever since then I have never found a place which would make me a veggie version. The taco salad was ginormous, but tasty. I would totally trip on this place again.

We head to El Sombrero a few times a month. Always clean and friendly. Jorge is great. Their frijoles are really good. Their salsa is very fresh and tomato-y too.

My wife and I go at least once a week. Great food, relaxing atmosphere, and a friendly staff make El Sombrero our favorite place for Mexican food. Food is reasonably priced, well prepared, and the people always make us feel welcome. Indoor and outdoor dining options.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
