First two visits: 4 stars. Last visit: 2 stars. I stopped in on my way to work this Monday to get a double punch on my frequent buyer card. I paid and then waited, and waited, and waited... for ten minutes. I went up to the cash register and asked if they had started on my drink yet. Nope. Holy cow! Ten minutes and they still hadn't started my drink! Others around me were getting antsy, too. The barista made the wrong drink for someone, another lady said she would just take it even though it wasn't right because she didn't want to wait anymore. Net: If you've got a time on the weekend, I suggest stopping by. But if you are in a relative hurry to work and don't want to wait for what I assume would have been 15-18 minutes for a latte? Then skip this joint.

Fast service. Good coffee but you certainly pay for it. Their parking lot is small and a royal pain to get out of. I would rather go somewhere else.

Great coffee and great atmosphere. Very clean establishment. They serve a great product and know their coffee well. Hard to find anything wrong definitely a local favorite of mine!

I love that there's great coffee in Nashville. This shop uses beans from several different roasters. Lucky for me, they use more Counter Culture beans than others. The location is right on the way to work, so my hubby and I are, well, addicts. I can say with authority that the espresso drinks are consistent...after hundreds, I haven't had one that's not hot enough, or 'off' in some way. They have great pastries, too. Sometimes the parking fills up, especially during operating hours of the wine shop next door. Though I have to admit having a wine shop next door is extremely handy...it's beverage central over there.

With such great reviews, maybe I was expecting more but for one I had to keep my coat on the entire time I was there because it was freezing! The coffee was ok, the tea was very good and I love that they give you a pot. Getting on wifi was easy but most places are these days. For as many coffee shops as there are to choose from, I would go somewhere warmer.

I used to live off West End, pretty much behind Starbucks, and I would ALWAYS go out of my way to visit Dose. I considered it my neighborhood coffee shop. My favorite things about Dose: - 2-1 stamp day on Mondays! I can get to my free drink faster! - Their cappuccino is PERFECTION! Along with their macchiatto, they serve these in the traditional sizing, so they are petite, but pack a caffeinated punch. - Delicious food too! Especially their breakfast sandwiches. They serve Bagelface Bakery Bagels, and are always fresh & delicious. - They sometimes have a "Day Old" basket, and you can score brownies, muffins, etc for cheap! - Lovely interior & friendly service. I miss living walking distance from this place!

Number one coffee joint in Nashville! Love the "tour d'roast" concept - new roasters and varietals are introduced at regular intrevals throughout the year. Coffee is clearly THE passion for the owners as well as the staff. They easily engage in conversation about everything from beans to brewing. The decor, furnishings and music close the deal... a great place to stop and "drink in" conversation or a quiet moment by myself. Don't pass up the single cup option!

  • Stephanie V.

Really enjoy Dose! The coffee is great, the atmosphere is simple and cozy, the food is delicious and well, its a great coffee shop! And don't forget to pick up one of their latest roasts. They have a great selection of beans!

I'll update this review when I have one of their coffees. I came in to get a breakfast sandwich and an iced chai. The sandwich was okay, very much on the bland side, despite the presence of onions. I don't know if this part of the country likes their salt, but the ham was very salty. And the chai was also bland. But even when I was living in San Francisco, I was always looking for really good iced chai. They do have free wi-fi and lots of outlets, which I appreciated. And the place is interestingly laid out: Booths one side, tables in the middle row, and window seating on the other side. I wouldn't want to attempt to park here; it doesn't seem that there's enough room for a large SUV to back out and make that turn to get out of the parking space (of which there aren't many).

  • Jacob S.

Excellent. Never really had "good" coffee until I went here, now I understand why people complain about Starbucks. Great atmosphere and a ton fo outlets. That said, it's pretty expensive. Decided to start studying here once a week, well worth the extra $.60 or whatever it is.

This place is a good alternative to Starbucks in Nashville, I guess. Can get crowded (packed). Tea is good, this really is a coffe AND tea place, not a coffee place with tea. This place plays music that was kind-of cool 5 years ago.

Great coffee, good (not overly friendly) service and all the hipster/yuppie vibe you can stand. Don't bother coming in here with that Dell laptop, fool. Apple or nothing, complete with iPad checkout.

Dose is definitely one of my favorite coffee shops in Nashville! I love that they have stamp cards and I love that I get a double stamp on Monday! I probably visit this place at least once a week! Please go and support them! I would recommend an iced dirty chai! Yummm! Oh and get a pumpkin spice muffin or blueberry raisin! :)

Love the coffee! Love the service! Love the location, right in Sylvan Park! LOVE the bagels.. not that I need them! Everyone should try Dose! Kick Starbucks to the curb!

First off--big props to Yelp App on my iphone for saving me from the Starbucks about a mile from Dose. I found Dose using "search nearby." Hubby and I had two very good cups of cappuccino on a Saturday afternoon. Grand Cru (next door) was also sampling wines and beers--what a treat. No issues with service at all--Stacy C. give Dose another chance! Super inviting atmosphere. Nashville: I implore you to support your local coffee shop!

Great Coffee! This place seems like it is in the middle of nowhere. We stopped on our way out of town. This place brews excellent coffee, and has a very college coffee house vibe. Definitely skip Starbucks and give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

when its winter the doors steams with the good brews within. the tea selection is wide and always evolving. the space is open, filled but almost always one or two extra tables so ive never flet turned away. yet to try the food, but if its anything like the moods ill be satisfied for hours.

Really like the design, employees and atmosphere. I am definitely going to be visiting here versus Starbucks. Best is it is ideally situated near my office. Worst is the limited parking options especially during the morning rush.

It was a sad day for me when I learned that my top-rated coffee shop, Portland Brew on Murphy Road was sold off and being replaced with another shop. The death of my old love was hard on me; however the pain of her passing was eased as her sisters called out to me from places such as 12 South and East Nashville if I wanted to be remembered of my one true love. Sure they weren't as sweet or as smooth as the most beautiful of the Portland sisters, but their coffee kisses still provided me with a modicum of the joy that my one true love provided. Silly lover references aside, I felt the need to give the location's replacement, Dose, a chance. From the packed parking lot and restaurant tables, it appeared that the new owners began with some success, and the old clients did not feel cheated by the change. I started asking questions to the man behind the counter, but instead of the friendly smile, I got the blank stare of someone who acted as if I was speaking another language. My questions were very basic, but the counter guy continued to act as if my questions were near-incomprehensible. After a couple of awkward moments, my order was complete. I waited a reasonable amount of time, and the two other fellows behind the counter, in contrast to the unenthusiastic cashier, was were friendly enough, and explained how they had been employers or Portland Brew, and had bought the place out, and were doing some of their own roasting while also still getting some beans from Portland. The coffee was still very good, the there were more tables then before (all being used, a testament to the continuing popularity of the place). However, the initial experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The coffee is great, and the environs has a good chance to be great, too. If you're deep into the west side, check it out.

Awesomeness! Pass on the chains for a *real* hand crafted coffee from a barista. Great choices for drink sizes (6-9-12-20 oz), fun atmosphere, good food.

I am not a warm and fuzzy reviewer, but I give this place extra props for being a much needed respite of excellent chai that isn't another Starbucks. The tea selections are some of the best in the city, which isn't saying much, because let's face it....we're in Nashville. Oddly, the staff isn't exactly over caffeinated and is so mellow that I'm thinking there is a quiet prayer service going on somewhere every time I walk in. Hopefully their next incarnation will involve more pastry selections, but snaps for being a local upstart in a tough economy.

Good house coffee. Fair prices, but parking is pretty bad. They close fairly early compared to other similar places so keep that in mind.

When my travels take me to the West End Vandy area of Nashville, I love stopping by and having coffee and other goodies at Dose. I enjoy the open interior and large front windows for plenty of light. This coffee house conducts recurring coffee classes for people who may want to more about their favorite drink. Very much worth your time to stop by and enjoy.

I was ecstatic when Dose opened and became my local go-to coffee shop. I can't help but stop by whenever I have an excuse. These people take their coffee and espresso seriously. The owners are present on a regular basis because they take so much pride in their product. They offer great lattes, cappuccinos and the like, as well as coffee that is brewed by-the-cup and a great selection of loose teas. Oh, and they also have house-made vanilla and almond syrups. Their bagel sandwiches are fantastic, and their lunch menu has a unique offering of sandwiches as well (though I can never turn down the Gulliver - ham, egg, cheese bagel - to try one). The bagels are hand-made artisan bagels, and they have a collection of muffins and breads for breakfast as well. You'll see people of all ages in this coffee shop: college students like me studying, families getting breakfast on saturday mornings, and the locals who use Dose as a casual meeting spot. Definitely give it a try!

I've been a long time fan of Starbucks. My husband has traveled the world experiencing every Starbucks in just about every country. Needless to say we were sucked in deep. Then we moved to Nashville from LA and wanted to start trying local coffee places. Out of all the places we tried, and we tried many, Dose stood out exceptionally! It is the creamiest, non-acidic, bold flavor we have ever had. We are now ruined and can't go back to Starbucks unless we can't get to Dose. And even then, it's still not the same. We even bought their nightly fresh roasted beans to have in our house for our own espresso machine, and it's just as good. They have truly found the secret to roasting.

Only Sylvan Park area coffeehouse, for now. I like to sip my chai at a window table with lots of light. Some like the booths for private conversations. Good location off West End and fun wine tastings are pros for this coffeehouse. Sandwich and other food selection is varied. The two guys who opened this location will be flexible with the food and snack selection according to what folks seem to like; a great addition to the coffee and tea landscape.

Great selection of coffee and surprisingly good, if not sparse, lunch menu. Friendly staff. A great alternative to the big coffeehouse chains.

In reality, this is the only coffee shop in Nashville that is worth visiting if you care about the quality of the coffee. The baristas, especially the owner, are truly passionate about coffee, not just clueless college students. Dose is the only coffee shop where I can have a conversation with my barista about coffee or tea. The featured roaster of the month is an awesome feature that allows me to try coffees from the top roasters in the US. The recent switch to Counter Culture Apollo really highlights their dedication to high quality espresso. In addition, the prices are low and the atmosphere is really cool.

  • Jonathan C.

a solid gem of a coffee shop, Dose offers coffee from different roasters across the county (currently Messenger & Counter Culture.) with a nice selection of drinks and food, the shop is a great location for the casual coffee drinker or the the more versed drinker as well as those that are just going for a bite to eat or to study. slow brew coffee's are made by Curtis automated system which helps provide consistency and reduces errors which may occur with a manual pour method. there is also a nice selection of retail coffee and coffee gear for you to take with you if you like to brew at home. sitting right off of the 440 Loop, this is a great location to stop by and grab a cup to go. Definitely a must visit coffee location in Nashville.

Uno. Dos. Tres. Me gusta cafes! There's two ways to look at this place. On the left you have the counter, which is tastefully designed. It looks like Sandra Lee is going to walk out from the back and bring me my coffee. Then the right side of the café looks like they've just moved in and are still deciding on which frames to hang up on the wall. Just a thought! Anyways, I was here for coffee. I went for a simple latte... yum! It was perfect just the way they served it (no sugar added). The friendly employee that took my order also recommended the jalapeno and goat cheese egg sandwich. It was surely spicy and the portion was more than I expected for breakfast. Overall, a great place to stop by for breakfast before heading to the office.

A unique roast! A disdainful host. This espresso tastes green and bright! It is noteworthy for sure. We ordered a double espresso and a soy latte. Well actually, I ordered a caramel latte- but that's not a thing at Dose. They don't do flavored coffee. That's a statement I would respect and appreciate if it had been explained kindly with respect for the espresso (which really is good- but how was I to know on the first cup? I mean, I ordered it straight too- cut me some slack). Really- I would have been excited to hear that they respect their espresso. Instead, the guy at the counter snarled and turned around to the barista and declared "we got a flavored one." It's a shame really - how will they inspire people to love and appreciate espresso when customers aren't appreciated enough to love the experience?

Still amazing coffee. Nicer choices of food, and a tranquil ambiance. This is the hidden gem of Nashville.

A decent spot for a relaxing cup of coffee or tea, and a good place to catch up with friends on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The espresso is very rich, smooth and extremely strong (I'm pretty sure it's double strength - I drank 2 shots at around 4pm one day and COULD NOT sleep that night...) Be wary if espresso is your drink of choice - your delicious treat carries some repercussions! Here's the weird thing: I went in yesterday and asked for skim milk to go with my espresso. The woman at the counter pulls out the plastic jug labeled with the local dairy farmer's label, which clearly says 'skim'. I pour some into my coffee and notice it's far thicker than skim milk. Upon reading the label more carefully, I notice that their 'skim' milk is actually 2%, with 5 grams of far per serving. Do I need to ask for 'fat free' milk next time? I don't know why the dairy farm would provide a label for skim milk when the jug really contains something else. It won't stop me from meeting other folks there on occasion, but it will keep me from stopping by Dose on a regular basis, sadly.

Dose is a cute coffee shop with simple interior. They have a decent selection of gluten free baked goods. I got the egg and cheese sandwich. My boyfriend got the jalapeño and blue cheese. Both were delicious. Parking was a bit tight.

  • Penelope B.

Dose is a sweet little spot with good light and a slightly busy atmosphere that may be better for chatting than studying though it's still possible to read. Tea is about five well-chosen options from Rishi. Gluten-free snacks unfortunately have soy lecithin in them. Staff are great with questions. Parking can be a little tricky, depending on your timing.

Every Monday - Friday morning, you can find me swinging by Dose grabbing an almond milk cortado and rushing off to work. While it kills me to drink any kind of espresso beverage on the fly (as does, let's be honest, leaving my house at 7AM), Dose makes the experience as enjoyable as possible. It doesn't hurt that I'm convinced that their espresso is double strength! Despite the fact that I'm here every morning, I must say that I don't *love* the espresso. I'm much more of a smooth, chocolately espresso fan as opposed to Dose's more fruity, acidic taste. That said, I return every.single.morning largely because the staff is so friendly, they have almond milk and local milk (a big plus in my book!), serve up a variety of gluten free treats ... and because it's super easy to hop on 440 from this location. (and at only $2.75 for a cortado plus 50 cents for special milk, I'm not breaking the bank) If you have the time, sit down and stay awhile at Dose. Any of their breakfast sandwiches can be made into omelets (go for the tomato and avocado! ask for 2 eggs if you're hungry) and there's always plenty of space. They also put time into the presentation of their drinks (hello, latte art!), which look much better in ceramic cups and mugs!

  • Katey Beth S.

Coffee is pretty good. But the customer service is pretty bland. For example I've been going here for several years now and I've still never had a barista smile at me once. They seem to have an uppity attitude but its convenient to me on my way to work and the food is the best thing about them. I give them three out of five stars.

I have pretty high expectations when I walk into an independent coffee shop, especially one that has been around as long as Dose has. This morning I had some time to kill and needed a cup of coffee so I decided to go to Dose since I had to drive past there to get to my destination. Parking is challenging, especially if you have a larger vehicle, so as I waited for a couple of cars to come out of the small lot they share with another business I scoped out a spot I thought I would be able to get out of if the lot got full. Once parked we went inside to find a pretty decent line. Since it was around 7:30 in the morning this was not unexpected. When we finally got to order I asked for the largest, darkest roast they had and waited for my coffee. It came piping hot, so I had to wait a little bit for it to cool before I took my first sips. Since I had to wait for my wife's bagel this really wasn't that big of a deal. My wife got her breakfast and we headed out. After I was able to maneuver out of the lot I took the first sip of what I was expecting to be something delicious and found that it was bitter. I thought maybe my tastebuds were playing tricks on me so I took another sip and nope, it was bitter. I had paid more for their bitter 16oz coffee than I would have paid for a non-bitter 20oz cup at Starbucks, which made me bitter. If you're looking for an artisan cup of coffee I suggest you go somewhere else, like Fido. If you're looking to be seen, want to pay a premium for a cup of coffee that tastes like it was brewed at the Waffle House then Dose is the right place for you.

What I liked: 1. The coffee is brewed by cup in the afternoon and while it takes 5-7 minutes, is worth the wait- quite tasty! 2. I had a polenta- lime cake. It was just sweet enough and quite delicious. It seemed to be a surprise mix of a cake/cornbread/muffin. Yum! What I didn't like: 1. The decor is quite spartan. Definitely a no-frills spot. 2. Unfortunately, given the flooring and lack of decor - the room carries all conversations across. It doesn't feel like a typical, intimate coffee house setting. I prefer the Frothy Monkey for work meetings. The verdict- Worth a quick trip for a to-go coffee and treat, but pick a different work spot!

  • Sayumporn B.

One of my favorites coffee shop in Nashville. I love their flat white. I usually ordered a latte, but I now have found my new love with flat whites. Plus they make their hot beverage hot enough for my liking without scalding the milk. I also didn't have to order extra hot like I usually have to. Fantastic coffee aroma in each cup. No need to add sugar, as sweetness of the milk comes through.

great coffee and sandwiches. actually a huge fan of their food but the only negative is small portions. that being said, the prices are fairly reasonable for a hip coffee shop

  • Briana B.

This is my neighborhood coffee place and I've been coming here for years. The coffee is great, and the treats are delicious too. I'm a huge fan of the gluten free chocolate chip cookie (I don't eat gluten free regularly, so that isn't even part of the appeal -- it's just delicious). I also love the avocado and tomato breakfast sandwich. Over the past year or two, it's become increasingly busy, particularly on weekday mornings with people having what looks like business meetings and breakfasts, so it can be a bit more challenging to park and mean a longer wait. But the quality is great and I love it for a leisurely afternoon coffee and snack while reading a book or magazine.

Your instinct might be telling you to order a dose of coffee or tea at Dose Coffee & Tea, but I'm going rogue and suggesting otherwise. Their drinks are very expensive for how "meh" they are, but their salads are fantastic and much more affordable. On the downside, the salads are not caffeinated (I checked), but they're the reason I'd come back. Oh, and the booths. You can always nap in a booth. See? Who needs self-caffeination, anyway?

I was tenuous about our relationship at first, but Dose has worked its way into my heart and earned its place as my go-to coffee shop. Why? Dose clearly cares about serving high quality foods and beverages. They make their syrups and chai concentrate in house -- you can see the actual vanilla bean resting in the vanilla syrup on the shelf! They sell Counter Culture coffee and Askinosie small batch bean-to-bar chocolate. They carry almond milk (the superior milk alternative). They'll brew you an individual cup of coffee with your roast of choice. They feature a generous selection of house-made pastries and each one is extremely tasty. Some are even gluten-free! What really pleases me about Dose is that the staff manages to make quality their priority without being douches about it. No one ever makes me feel like I don't know enough about coffee, or that I'm ridiculous for asking for an extravagant amount of almond milk in my cup. Honestly, I almost always order like I'm Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally" (minus the orgasm), and no one even so much as blinks. In fact, they often act as if my special requests are *good* ideas. The atmosphere can be a bit sterile, and the prices a bit high. But hey, high quality ingredients cost money. And while the breakfast/lunch options are innovative and tasty, the sandwiches are always dry. Seriously, I go to special lengths to order some kind of mayonnaise on every sandwich I buy, and that's often not enough to combat the dryness. If you're reading this, Dose, you guys should work on that... Still, these flaws are minor, and I honestly can't think of a coffee shop in Nashville that I'd prefer to frequent.

This place has great coffee, and I love the flat white, but most of the time I need the sweet nectar of the gods is in the morning on my way to work. Going to dose can make me late!!!! It takes so long to get a cup. Please visit dose, just not when in a hurry.

  • Caitlyn S.

Don't go here if you're in a hurry. They're slow and chatty. Some people have places to go at 8am.

  • Sheena T.

Man I wish I could drag myself out of bed earlier in the mornings because I adore Dose! The coffee is fantastic, very rich and strong, just the jolt I need to get me going (they have flavors if you like the sweeter variety) and their pots of tea are out of this world! Hanging out at Dose is great, and on Saturdays they have a wine tasting in the afternoon! What a great idea! I haven't had their pastries or breakfast yet, but will soon. Thanks for keeping me awake Dose.

  • Emily Myles H.

Dose is pretty good, but not the best coffee in town. However I really like the restaurant itself and they looked like they would have some tasty food choices, I may come back and try it for food as well for sure.

I can't think of a better coffee shop in Nashville! With an amazing selection of drinks and entrees, Dose always has something to match my taste. The baristas are always friendly and go out of there way to make sure my experience is a good one. The atmosphere is great and I find it is quickly becoming my go to place to get my work done. If you are looking for great coffee, atmosphere, and service, Dose is definitely the place to go!

I've been consuming coffee from this fine location for now five years. Here's why: 1. Excellent service. I'm a regular so I'm immediately greeted with my preference of drink and name. I really want to support a local business that takes care of its customers. Thanks for that. Often the line does get long and I'll have to pass if I'm in a rush. When I do stay during a rush, they very effectively get out drinks/food as quickly as possible. I can only recall a few times where I had to wait more then ten minutes during these "busy" times. 2. Excellent coffee. Really. After drinking in nearly boutique level coffee shops in the Pacific Northwest to the "we take our coffee very seriously" Boston proper, my experience at Dose that stays consistently outstanding despite a rotating menu is impressive. 3. Excellent food choices. Okay, the food menu doesn't change as often as the drinks but there are (3) gluten free bakery choices. I am very glad that I have a choice of bakery items! It makes me feel like I have control over my life again (just kidding). 4. Excellent dining room and cleanliness. There are plenty of places to sit in a relatively small location. Patio seating is a must in the warmer times and always welcome. I rarely find a "total" mess that has not been picked up or at least attended to. Bathrooms are clean. Fresh flowers every week. The decor is pretty austere after the remodel but fits the 1950s-1960s urban coffee shop vibe. 5. Excellent prices for -nice- coffee. You want gas station degreaser sludge for a dollar? I recommend Tiger Mart down the street. Stay Caffeinated, Nashville!

I'm so glad I managed to discover Dose this past summer. Not only is it much closer to where I live, but it also has a much quieter environment than many of Nashville's other popular coffeeshops (i.e. Fido's, Bongo Java, Frothy Monkey), making it much more of a go-to place in my book. Their coffee is on the stronger side, but wonderful nonetheless. The lattes, as well as the art that goes with them, are delightfully strong and rich. And if you aren't feeling coffee, they also have a wide variety of loose leaf teas. Not to mention the baristas are very approachable and friendly! Parking is usually fine here, but you can definitely face a lack of space during times where everyone is most likely to have a personal coffee day (weekends 9am-12pm).

  • Roo R.

Let me tell the Yelpers a story... the first time I went to Dose, I ordered a caramel latte, as that was my standard drink. The polite person working informed me that they did not have any caramel, but did have vanilla and ginger. Prior to this, I had not experienced the likes of the ginger, and wondered if I was missing out on something. I received my drink and quickly learned that I had not missed out on anything. It must require a very specific palate for such a terrible flavor, but yet everyone in Nashville serves some sort of ginger/coffee atrocity. But I digress. I was butthurt from the first go with Dose, but gave them a few more shots (points for coffee pun). Over the next hundred visits or so, I learned that they make superb espresso. To match the excellent quality of drinks, they also offer some unique and always-delicious bagels and muffins. The staff is friendly, the place is emaculate, and the coffee is excellent.

My favorite coffee spot in Nashville, hands down. If there is a line you may have a wait. If you're in a particular rush this may not be the best option; however, if you're looking for the best cup of coffee for your money you really should do just that and wait. This is my go to spot for coffee and any time anyone's in town I bring them here no matter what their coffee tastes are. They offer rotating espresso varieties that you can request based on a preferred flavor profile, and the baristas are straight up magicians when it comes to bringing out the best of an espresso. I didn't know coffee could have flavor like it does at dose. The space is open and filled with sunlight, which makes it a great spot to sit an socialize, daydream, or get work done if you're in to that kind of thing. They also have some light cafe-type food options (bagels, sandwiches, soups) all of which are good. Staff is always very kind and helpful.

Best iced coffee in town! Hands down. It is not for the faint of heart. This iced coffee is for people who want to feel a jittery jolt of energy from their coffee beverage (like myself). I don't like the new seating arrangement, but it is growing on me. I also recently discovered they have delicious biscuit breakfast sandwiches (I love egg sandwiches on the feta and choice biscuit). Highly recommend.

Well, I can say they certainly are good at what they do. I just.. don't like it. I suppose this is the problem for me with coffee. After years of Starbucks and K-Cups and work Coffee Service maybe my coffee taster doodad doesn't work properly, but my By the Cup Colombian just wasn't to may taste. It was very strongly what it was, and that I figure is good (if you like that sort of thing) but as I write this it sitting on the desk next to me telling me how bad of a person I am for not liking it. The actual coffee aside however, everyone was extremely friendly and patient with me. They do seem to have a good selection and lots of places to sit. Parking can be a bit tough, and when I drive by on my way to work its often totally packed. So I would say that if you are a hardcore coffee person, it's worth it for you to stop in and try it out, but if you are more "Starbucksian" you might not enjoy it. It reminds me very much of the Coffeehouses from my youth in Ann Arbor. Cool Kids and All.

Although the service is a little indifferent, I still come back because they have awesome milk tea, quinoa salad and veggie bagel. It's a great place to sit and get some work done as well.

This is my favorite coffee place in Nashville. Dose is one of the only coffee shops around that makes flat whites, which are delicious. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the room is always a great balance between crowded and quiet. Prices are also super reasonable, especially in relation to other shops in Nashville. Definitely try the flat white and an avocado tomato sandwich with egg on brioche. Pastries are also awesome.

Dear Dose, I have only been here once, but you had me at your smooth Ginger Latte. I still think about you often and I fantasize about the other flavors of coffees and teas that I could have while I sit in your modern soothing ambient cafe and work away on my dissertation. Of course I could sneakily be working away at some corny romance novel, but I would look pretty smart and hip while I'm doing it! If only I was a local. I would probably be halfway finished with my dissertation, and I would also probably be broke and be in a overDose coma.

When we moved across town, I was delighted to discover this little coffee shop. It is ridiculously close to our house, and even on super-trafficy weekday mornings, it's not impossible to get in and out of the parking lot. The ambiance is nice with adequate seating. I often see folks typing away on their laptops, or conducting small meetings. Seems like a great place for both. While I am a proud owner of a very nice burr grinder, I do not feel that I am a "coffee snob" since there is so much to know and learn when it comes to harvesting these little beans that bring me sheer happiness. However, I have found that a can of store-bought-whatever does not suit my taste, but the house coffee Dose serves is quite good. With a strong focus in organic and fair-trade coffees, farm-to-table food, freshly baked goods, all the way to their compostable containers, Dose wins over my heart in multiple arenas. (And I agree, the zucchini muffin is delicious!) Unfortunately, there are a few things that have prevented my rating going beyond three stars. By no means is the staff rude, but they're not overwhelmingly friendly either. If I were in, let's say...Seattle, I would expect this (unless the sun is shining...ha). Here in the South, a little Southern charm is somewhat expected, and goes a long way when you have yet to sip your "good morning glory". I'll admit, I'm with my fellow Yelper in that I also subscribe to the international green mermaid chain; partly because I occasionally like to get a little frisky with my coffee by adding some flavor. Unfortunately, the last time I inquired about this at Dose, the syrup selection was quite limited (two of the four offered would literally send me to the infirmary). And while it was not the actual verbal response to my syrup inquiry, it did strongly imply, "Why would you ruin perfectly good coffee with syrup?" It was rather off-putting. The other part to my green mermaid willingness is efficiency. Typically they run like well-oiled machines. Dose has not done so well in this area - although there has been some improvement in getting handmade beverages out quicker in my recent visits. Note - I said beverages. Their breakfast sandwiches are truly splendid, but the time it takes to get one feels a bit excessive. Yes, one does need to take into consideration that these sandwiches are not frozen, pre-packaged garbage, so some time needs to be allotted for construction of such deliciousness... Even with this in mind - it still is a bit of a wait. Unfortunately, the last two sandwiches I ordered were prepared incorrectly. On the first, the avocado (the ingredient I was most looking forward to) was missing, and I didn't know it until I returned home. The second one I caught while still on site. It had been prepared with meat that I did not order. So I had to wait again for it to be corrected. One of the owners apologized, and gave me a card to redeem for a free drink - which was very nice of him. I know these folks are serious about their craft, and applaud them for such. I'd love to stop in more often than I do for all their strong points, but I typically don't have the time to wait.

The coffee is amazing, but if you're used to Starbucks make sure you know how to order here. Very strong quality coffee with a great variety! The reason I'm giving this place 5 stars is because their Gluten Free Cinnamon Scone is out of this world delicious. Best GF breakfast treat I've found in Nashville. I could have eaten 3.

Very good pour over coffee and nice little shop...rating would have been better but the parking is problematic / scarce and the service was very slow. I was the only order the barista needed to take care of - took almost 15 minutes to do a pour over. If you have somewhere to be and your looking for a good, quick cup of coffee - keep driving. If you have some time and are looking for good coffee & a cool little shop to hang out in - give it a shot. Good coffee and nice comfortable shop. Slow service & bad parking = 3 stars.

I am not sure why it took me so long to finally come here. Maybe it's my addiction to the 12 South area, or maybe it was the plain ole lack of seating, but I just recently started coming here more often. The coffee here is top notch. I love that they have homemade syrups, and I love even more that they have almond milk! And if you've attempted their GF cookies, you know that they are to die for. To. Die. For. Amazing! And as if the goods aren't good enough, the service is top notch. The staff is super nice and friendly, and doesn't ever rush your order, even when they have a line out the door! Which is sometimes the case because the place is pretty tiny. I am super excited to see their upgraded digs, but I'd definitely recommend this coffee shop to just about anybody!

I'm with Jemina B on this one... the staff here is so very very nice and the location is not so far from my house but the wait for a drink is a bit much. It's not enough to ward me off from Dose's charm and tasty concoctions but enough to where I'm no regular here. Ya feel me?

Finally made it back in yesterday morning and so glad I did. Loved the layout redux. Ordered a latte an egg and cheese bagel. The bagel came out super fast (I hadn't yet even made it up to grab my latte yet!) great service, great atmosphere. Wish I didn't have to be at work at 6 every morning and could stop in more regularly. Nice work.

My favorite coffee shop in Nashville. Bold claim, I know. But their ginger latte is UNbeatable! The baristas are really great and fast too, which keeps me coming back. Wish there were more locations, honestly

I'll tell you why this place didn't get 5 stars from me: it's a little pretentious. The staff aren't very friendly (ok, yes, I'm in my sweatpants and I look like death warmed over, don't you think I'm getting coffee for a reason?) and let's just say there is definitely the artsy/hipster vibe rockin' hard here...but I don't care. Seriously. Stare at me and my awful morning hair and shambles of an outfit all you want, I love the coffee that much. So I wait a little long for this drink. I am willing to wait for this single hand-strained cups on magic all morning if need be. The flavors are bold, creamy, delicious...no need for cream and sugar with that in my hand. Cups have coffee from here have me transformed from lethargic to motivated in about 10 minutes. I don't know what the food is like but I hear its pretty good, and as they ar enext door to Grand Cru wines, they have tastings on Saturday afternoons. I should check that out sometime, but again, by the time I finish my Dose coffee, I am suddenly able to complete every task on my to-do list without needing a nap. I have hung out here once of twice with friends having coffee before heading to a festival or out shopping or what not, and its a quiet and chill place to sit and discuss plans for the day. But back to the coffee. Its worth the wait, the odd stares, and even me, who has no idea what I'm ordering (flavors include nutmeg and some flower I can'r pronouce? Cool), couldn't be happier after a morning Dose.

I really like Dose for coffee and tea! It's in a pretty convenient location on Murphy road. It's fairly accessible to folks who are in the vandy area but want to get away from the traffic there! I like that they have big booths for you to sit and get some work done. I wish more of the booths had outlets so that you could work here for extended periods of time. The couches and the seats by the wall do have outlets though if you need to move around. The folks who work here are always really sweet and accommodating! :)

Stopped by for a quick coffee and it was quick, cheap and good! Have to admit I like the consistency of the big coffee chain with the green logo, but there's a lot to be said for the individualism and quirky character that you find in small, independent shops. Small parking lot, as someone mentioned previously, but there is street parking immediately next to the shop's parking lot.

  • Amit M.

Nice smooth coffee at a decent price. I tried a 16oz latte and it seemed to strike the right balance between the depth and bitterness of roasted coffee beans and the light fluffiness of frothed milk. A simple concept, but not always well executed. If I lived in the area, I would definitely go back.

  • Alex P.

Yum! Loved the chilled chai latte! but, it wasn't the coolest hangout... i would have liked to see table booths and large, lounge chairs. This was kind of bare. And the outside seating was completely taken up. They could've used more outside seating.

Okay so I just left Dose. I didn't realize what time is was so there were two guys in front of me so I stood back and waited. I thought they were ordering or in line so I waited. The waitress asked me if I wanted to order and I said, "Yes." I walked up to order and I explained that I'd never been there before. I told them I like Cubans and asked if they had anything similar or what they'd recommend. Both waitresses looked at me strangely and then told me that I'd probably like the Bon-Bon. Then, my waitress told me that between her and I they were closing and she could make it for me but she would have to throw it together and then I'd have to mix it together. I'm thinking, "Are you serious?" Why didn't she just say that from the start instead of half-assing my drinks and expect me to mix it together? I just walked out and she was saying she'd make the drink for me but I just left. I went there because I try to do as much local business as possible but this was just ridiculous. I was treated very poorly. When I asked for their recommendation, they looked at me like I was crazy for mentioning liking a Cuban and keep in mind I had never been there so I would've appreciated helpful advice and treating me as if they wanted to help instead of the way they did. And also if they were closed then just tell me that when I walk in instead of this. I'll never go back and I'll tell everyone.

Dose offers the most delicious gluten free treats I've found in Nashville. The cafe is beautiful and cozy and in the summer has sweet outside seating. I wish I lived closer so I could hang out there all the time. Servers are both lovely, stylish people and offering that sweet Southern hospitality.

I'm with another Yelper-I could tell my coffee drink was made well. I just didn't like it very much. I ordered the Moka. It tasted weird. I don't know. Maybe my taste buds aren't sophisticated enough. I do venture outside of Starbucks; I only frequent the one by St. Thomas because, well, I work at St. Thomas. I just don't know that I'd venture back here again. Everyone behind the counter was friendly enough. Like others, I also don't like the payment system. I don't know, maybe I'll come back. I like to give places second chances. We shall see, Dose. We shall see.

Cute little shop with delicious breakfast items and coffee! I ordered a cappuccino and breakfast sandwich. The avocado, tomato and provolone sandwich on a toasted garlic bagel was delicious. The garlic was over-powering but that's how I like it. =) The cappuccino was also delicious and perfect. Yummy!

I'm here a lot, me and the rest of the office. Best coffee in town as far as I'm concerned. And the food is all excellent too. The rosemary parmesan biscuit sandwich is my fave for breakfast. Love the turkey brie or the salad for lunch. Love this place and love that it's close to work.

Such a terrible experience here. I get there at 620 pm to meet a friend. I go to buy a drink and the credit card machine is down which they blamed on comcast. No music in the place either because apparently that's connected to internet too. I had no cash, the cashier was completely smug and offered me tap water. He could've offered a free coffee seeing as how I couldn't pay for anything since they're using a sub par credit card machine. You think Starbucks has their machine go down? This prick could've offered me a free 2 dollar drink after driving to the damn place. Now I will never go back. Then he kicked my friend and me out at 7 on the dot. Who closes at 7pm on a Friday night? Horrible experience. Don't let your business transactions rely on comcast. What a horrible idea. I can't believe this prick didn't offer me a coffee when their iPad was down. So disappointing.

Not our kind of place. It was a cold, stiff environment. The staff was not overly friendly nor helpful. It was busy and crowded and though there was plenty of seating it was a strange layout. We won't go back.

Milk Tea = incredible. Seriously, get it, even if you're a coffee junkie. You won't be disappointed.

Decent latte. Don't love the transaction process with a credit card (another one of those touch screens where you add gratuity in increments of 15, 20% and you feel awkward if you don't.) I just am totally put off by that since no one is waiting on you at your table. However the turkey brioche sandwich was ok, but the pb&j was kinda weird- at least the jam part. Lots of working people with macs and earbuds. A little pricy, which is to be expected. It's not bad.

Stopped in here after meetings at Vanderbilt; was looking for an independent coffee shop to work at for the afternoon. Drinks are unique, but there are no variations. The mexican hot chocolate with multiple spices and a homemade marshmallow intruiged me but I also wanted a pick-me-up so asked them to add a shot of espresso and was told that "there are no modifcations" made. A lot of drinks also only come in specific sizes. Cool vibe - nice quiet place to get work done. Not for those who like to customize their espresso experiences. Mex Hot Chocolate was absolutely delish.

  • Ashley D.

They've redecorated and revamped their look and feel. It's sort of like the sleeker and more modern infill elsewhere in Sylvan Park: it may be more functional and beautiful by contemporary terms, but it loses its charm and identity in the process (and the jarring indie rock in the background feels a lot less calming). That being said, I've always been happy with my order. Their espresso is not as rich as Portland Brew, but the bagels are Bagel Face, and well, I've reached the end of the importance criteria in my book.

    (4)
  • Emily W.

The drinks and food are still great, but the renovations have left this place feeling more like a college library cafe than a cosy coffee shop. This is probably a great place to buckle down and get work done, and it seems that there are a lot of people using Dose just for that purpose. Not the best place to relax with a latte anymore.

I happened to be in the area one Saturday afternoon and I was looking for a coffee shop to kill some time. I used my trusty Yelp locator and was directed to Dose. As soon as I walked in I realized I was not going to stay there. I didn't care for the layout. It's booths along one wall and a long table (or several tables pushed together?) right down the middle of the space. Just seemed like anywhere you sat you were gong to be on display with no privacy. I mean, not that I was going to do weird stuff with my coffee, but I would like to check my Facebook and sit quietly without someone 2 inches away. Anyway, the guy behind the counter was friendly and didn't seem annoyed that I asked about flavors. (I was worried after reading Marti W.'s review :)) My vanilla latte was really good. Prices are a little higher than Starbucks. If I'm in the area again I would stop in for a coffee to go but will probably never just hang there.

love the coffee (not a coffee snob) love the POS system love the zucchini muffin i was suggested. what suprised me was how it was VERY obvious this was not a thaw and serve type item that many places like starbucks or etc utilize. those types of products can have great quality but the one i had at dose was either fresh made or freshly delivered. love the classical music love the billion outlets a tiny bit small but thats their choice JEANS: OK by far ORDER: at counter

As coffee places go, this one is pretty nice. First of all, being right next to Gran Cru means you can always pick up something to discretely jazz up your coffee (not that I would Ever consider doing such a thing.) The coffee was pretty darn good, and the atmosphere was distinctly unpretentious, which I found shocking considering the name, the distance from Vanderbilt and the fact that it is a coffee place. I didnt get to try the food, but the people at the next table over were raving about it, so I'm guessing it is pretty good. Next time I go, I'll give it a try.

Dose is my neighborhood coffee shop. It's the closest to me, followed by Starbucks and the hot coffee spots in Hillsboro Village and the Belmont/12th area (Fido, Bongo Java, Portland Brew and Frothy Monkey). I'm afraid to say Dose is my least favorite of them all. I've had just a few of Dose's hot drinks, and most of them have been the specials of the day with a homemade syrup. While I appreciate the fact that Dose makes its own special syrups, I just haven't been blown away by either the taste of the coffee or the taste of the lattes as a whole. I just ventured into food-dom at Dose and had the breakfast sandwich with avocado, tomato, cheese and egg. This kind of concoction seemed very exciting but it really lacked in flavor and oomph. I see a review about cardamom banana bread, and that seems worth trying. It's so close to me, but with places I adore such as Crema and Drink Haus a short drive away, I don't think I'll be seeking out Dose too often.

  • Amanda A.

Three words: Cardamom. Banana. Bread. That's absolutely the most important thing you need to know about Dose. The next most important thing? Homemade ginger syrup. Putting that stuff in a soy latte is like drinking the nectar of the gods. One of the things I really like about Dose is how they feature different coffee roasters. The baristas really seem to know about the coffee they have, and I've been really pleased when I've bought coffee there before. The barista working listened to what I was looking for (a brew smooth enough to drink without creamer), made a rec, and I went home with truly amazing beans from a local roaster (Humphreys Street, organic and fair trade). The bagels here are great, and I've had some really good sandwiches as well, both breakfast and lunch. Of note: they sell bagels from Bagel Face Bakery, which has *vegan* bagels and almost all the bagels they sell (I think all of them actually) are listed on Bagel Face's website as being their vegan bagels. Dose should really play this up. I told the barista working there one day, but I don't know whether she passed on this info or not. Unfortunately, although they have some amazing jams, they only serve real butter and cream cheese, so vegans would be limited spread-wise to jelly and nut butter. (If they stocked some Tofutti cream cheese and Earth Balance, I have plenty of friends who'd turn out for the dairy-free offerings.) I've found most Dose patrons to be really friendly, which is great when seating is limited. I've never come in and been completely unable to find a seat, despite its small size. And there are several small tables outside. Parking can occasionally be a problem, but usually there's room on the street if not in the lot. My only complaint about Dose? They close at 7. I'd spend a lot more time and money here if they were open later and I had time to come after class and work.

These people take coffee very seriously, and we are the beneficiaries! I worked for four years at a certain large coffee company (think green aprons), so I can say with some level of knowledge that this is the real deal.

I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed that when I returned to Nashville from my year-long absence, my go-to Portland Brew had been taken over by Dose. I know that the owners used to work at the Portland Brew that used to be here, but it's just not the same. When I finally decided that visiting the new establishment did not mean I was betraying my loyalty to Portland Brew, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the changes. I seriously applaud the design of space and ambiance at Dose. If I ever opened my own cafe, I imagine the interior would look something similar to Dose. All of the furniture has a nice warm wooden feel--like I'm in a cabin in the middle of the forest...or the middle of I-440. In the winter, the glass windows will fog up from the condensation and I imagine that I am in a secluded forest away from civilization. The tables are spacious and designed with the I-must-spread-out-to-work and the yes-I-do-require-the-four-person-table-for-all-of-my-stuff parts of me in mind. Plus, they understand the need for electrical outlets and have a few power strips scattered about for those of us that do not run on Energizer bunnies. The drip coffee, unfortunately, does not compare with my first love, Portland Brew. It is decent though and they also offer specific roasts brewed by-the-cup--a nice treat. The espresso is pretty good as well and I love their ginger latte. Seriously, it just warms you up inside! What I really love about Dose, though, is their selection of teas. You can't really find any places around here that serve tea and they have some great loose-leafs to choose from. You can get a whole pot to steep over and over again and share with a friend.

I love to drink coffee but am not by any stretch of the imagination a coffee snob. Gas station coffee, folgers instant, or gourmet coffee shop coffee is all good with me as I'm gonna load it with sugar and syrup anyway. The fiancée and I headed to Dose to meet with friends of his (he is a coffee snob). With four of us in our party, we all ordered a coffee and a sandwich. At 4 o'clock on a Saturday there was only one person working so we all sat down and one of us got up at a time as an order got done every ten minutes. I'm not complaining about the service, the staggering was a bit inconvenient. I know he did all he could. The vibe was trendy, my latte was good, and my sandwich was yummy. A bit pricy but the frequent stamp card is a good incentive. My fiancée got a free second espresso after he stamped his card with everyone in the party. Ill be back but I won't go out of my way to get here.

Good things about Dose, which is arguably the best coffee shop in town for the connoisseur/purist set: -They open at 6 a.m. during the week. -Outstanding by-the-cup coffee. Do try this if you haven't yet; they always have at least 3 roasts to choose from. -I like how their prices include tax. It's just simpler that way. -The day-old baked goods basket is a good bargain. I don't like to pay full price for their muffins and such, because they're not delicious. Go for the Bagel Face bagels, which are.

I loved Dose! I went there to study yesterday and the environment was great! They have a few booth tables and some free standing tables and chairs as well. What I really liked was the bar seating along the wall. I ordered an iced coffee that was delicious and my friend had an iced tea that she loved. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Overall the environment was very relaxed and casual, it was relatively quiet and perfect for studying. It also felt very clean and well-kept. Definitely my favorite coffee shop I've been to in Nashville! The only downsides were that the parking was minimal and I wish there was more access to outlets inside; there were only outlets against the wall near the bar seating.

wow, this place is awesome, I'm so happy I found you Dose. and I can even walk there for lunch. I have a new favorite lunch spot! Also, I was extremely excited to see a "Flat White" on the menu. Being married to an Aussie, I have had them many times in Australia but never met a barista in America who even knows what it is. I can't wait to bring my wife. I hope others discover the Flat White and love it too! The Turkey Pesto was fabulous too. I want to try the Caprese next. I'll be back soon!!! PS: I hope you'll add some Australian style meat pies and pastries soon! Keep up the good work!

I don't know if Dose has a personality. I'm not there enough to have picked that out yet, and the crowd is different every time. What I do know is they have very well done drinks, decent wifi, and there's a chance you can park without issue. I believe they also hold the title of closest coffeeshop to an interstate/pkwy exit in Nashville, but I may be mistaken on that as the Metrocenter Starbucks may claim it by a few feet. The place is done in one style, unlike the unplanned explosions of local coffee shops such as Bongo that seem to have added layer upon layer, you'd think it appeared in place as it is... and it could be switched out with a restaurant without much work and it would have the same air, or a corporate coffee slinger. It has its little quirky elements if you look closely enough though. The men's bathroom with the ceiling graffiti, some minor elements at the counter. It's not completely generic. Everything I've had there has been good, I'll keep trying it

Coffee like WHOA. I was in recently and bought the manually made Bolivian blend. It takes about 5 minutes to get the cup as they pour it about 2 ounces at a time, but it is worth the wait. Strong coffee flavor, with hints of spice and caramel really blew me away. I brought a friend by to try it and he had the same reaction. Keep your cream and sugar away from this perfect cup. Even if you don't drink it black, you will have no problem doing so with this blend.

This is just the type of mildly pretentious coffee place Nashville needs. This is where you take 1) you're buddies from the coast that need to feel mildly put down when they order a coffee, or 2) your family from the midwest to see them utterly confused when ordering a coffee . But seriously, the coffee here is great and they feature some of the best roasters in the country, which is why this has become my go-to place for a cup. They also sell Bagel Face bagels, which is always a plus. Seating can be a little weird/non-existent but if you get there before 8:30-9:00am on a weekend you can typically get a decent spot.

Oh Dose... how could I live without you?! I LOVE coffee (for real. It's in my About Me. I'm a snob about it, honestly) and Dose does NOT disappoint. I prefer, always, to support local businesses and this is one you simply cannot miss. The actual FLAVOR of their roasts are beyond delectable. The staff is Dose is awesome friendly no matter what the time (6a) or how many people are jitteringly waiting for their caffeine (sometimes as many as a dozen just anxiously hovering around the espresso machine trying to be chill on their iPhone but secretly hoping they can swipe the next order without anyone knowing). I have never seen them stressed or rude or even slightly less than cheerful and gracious. When their espresso machine broke (GASP!) before 8a one morning they were so cool, calm and collected with the many desperate drinkers stopping in. One of the owners drove to ATL pronto and a new machine was up and running the next day. My order is almost always a skinny latte (you have a choice of espressos!) and is usually accompanied by their zucchini muffin. It's the best thing ever. EVER. I branched out once and got a scone... but I went right back to my muffin. Super delish. If you have 5 minutes, choose a brew-by-the-cup. SO worth your time. Anyhoo - it's kind of an East Nashville-type business that was planted smack dab in the middle of West End and I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. It's a small space and can hold maybe 35 people when full (along with a sprinkling of outdoor seating), lots of teas (which are SOOOO good. Try the dried cherries. Amazing) and coffee based drinks to choose from. Everything there is local, including yummilicious yogurt concoctions and sandwiches. Oh, and they are super hip with their cool new iPad check out system. I have a tendency to stop be several times a week. Can't wait for my next dose (haha. Did you see what I did?! :) ). Nutshell: uber chill and friendly staff Ridiculously good coffee/latte/espressos

Ok, I tried them again, and concede to an improvement in rating. I like the newly renovated space, but it's still not as cozy as other area options. My drink (latte with house-made ginger syrup) was rather tasty this time, though. And I thought that the ginger syrup was a nice variation from the oh-so-common-PSL (pumpkin spice, for those who aren't as addicted), while retaining the autumnal nod.

I like the coffee and the ambience. The shop is directly across from the freeway so the view is not much to look at. Most regrettable is the slow internet connection. I would come more often but the wifi is too slow for me to work.

A clean, well-lighted coffee shop, Dose has a somewhat limited selection of still-delicious coffees and desserts. The baristas are kind, and the atmosphere is more laid back than more crowded shops around Nashville. The decor is sparse and yet elegant. It leans on the more upscale side, but the drinks are no more expensive than other places. It seems like it would be a great place to get some work done. My latte was kind of mild, but it was really very good and matched my mood.

I tried the Mexican Hot Chocolate and it was yummeeee, albeit pricey (~$4). But, for a once-in-a-while treat, I felt OK splurging. I cannot speak to their espresso's or coffees. The ambiance was laid back and quiet, some folks chatting and others on their laptops. I will go back and try some of their less fancy drinks.

My expectations in a coffee shop are fairly stiff. Not obnoxious 'will only order my coffee from a moka pot with south American chicory' levels of intolerable, but annoying to some (and by some I mean my parents). That being said, I am glad there are 2 decent places to get a good cup of joe near my work - this being one. The house coffee is good - especially iced, but if you want to be cute and sit and enjoy - you can order a little French press for your oversized booth and happily peck away on your mac! That seems to be the scene here. If you aren't a coffee person (shock and awe, shock and awe...) they make a mean London Fog and have a good little loose leaf tea selection from some PC tea company. Dose also offers a limited lunch time menu. About 5 different sandwiches served with house made bagel chips and hummus. I give the sandwiches 3.5 stars but the bagel chips and hummus 5 stars! The hummus is not traditional or even really greek at all, but for some reason I LOVE it! The bagel chips are garlicy, crisp and crave-worthy. Overall a good addition to this kind of barren strip of Murphy Road - thanks for that!

How could anyone even list Starbucks in a review for a real coffee shop? Dose is hands down one of the best coffee shops in Nashville. (I would say the best honestly.)

I've been going to Dose for a few months now and I really have to say, if you've ever wondered where the extravagant flavors are in your cup of black coffee after reading the delicious sounding descriptions of the beans, but have continuously been let down......its not you, its where you've been buying coffee. So, here's what you do. 1. Go to Dose 2. Ask them to brew you a cup via Chemex of their favorite bean from this months featured roaster. 3. Wait 5 minutes........I promise it will be worth it. 4. Prepare to taste what you've been missing and please, for gods sake, at least TRY it with absolutely nothing in it. I'm am not joking around here, this is serious business! This place really showed my how insanely complex a cup of coffee can be. Dose rotates a featured roaster monthly selected from the best of the best American coffee roasters. Thus, they have on hand some of the best coffees in the world, hand prepared in an insanely meticulous fashion with the appropriate gear. Coffee nerds rejoice, this place is run by people who seriously love coffee and their product shows it.

Best coffee place in Nashville! I usually drink espresso but have also tried the capuchino which was excellent! I also really like the people that work here. They are very nice and helpful!

For the last year or so this has been my go to place for a cup of coffee. These people know what they are doing. The ambiance is great (if it's not too crowded) and the staff are very friendly. On a bad day (when it is too early for drinking wine to be socially acceptable) there is nothing that makes me happier than a cup of their brew by the cup coffee and a zucchini muffin. I don't know why I qualified that with "on a bad day"..I'd take a cup and zucchini bread any day of the week.

Despite living right down the road for almost a year, I went to Dose for the first time yesterday. I should have stopped in sooner! I had a cup of coffee brewed via Chemex. I drink my coffee black, so it's important that the coffee is brewed properly and the beans are quality. I asked the barista for a recommendation - he seemed very knowledgeable about the coffees they had at the moment (I believe they rotate..). I ended up getting an African coffee and it did not disappoint! I can't say that this would be the best place to get a drink and some food if you were in a hurry. I guess I'm just used to the McDonaldization of coffee houses...however, it did seem like it took a little while for drinks to be made and food to come out. This is a non-issue if you're coming in to work/study/meet up/etc. and want to wait for a quality beverage and a snack, but this may not be my first choice if I need to grab-and-go. Overall, I had a really good experience at Dose and will be back for some more coffee!

This is a COFFEE SHOP. They make COFFEE. They actually MAKE it here. Seriously, this place is about the joe. Not about being seen, not about out "hipster-ing" their competitors. It's got the best coffee that this city has to offer. I don't care if they are slow...I'll wait. It's that good.

Dear Dose, I want to like you. Nay, I want to LOVE you, but you're making it so difficult. Your staff is friendly and knowledgeable, but they take FOREVER to make a damn drink. Or sandwich. Or whatever it is I need in a hurry. The last chai tea I ordered was just meh. I don't like paying your prices for just meh. I love your decor and yet it seems like every time I want to check out one of your booths, every single one is filled with a lonely-looking vandy girl taking up the whole thing with her Mac and cup o' joe. And she's there for the long haul. I know that shouldn't count against you, but it still vexes me. Maybe one day I can grow to love you, but until then I'm headed elsewhere to get my caffeine fix. Sincerely, Jem

Just started going to Dose in 2014.....and find it to be some of the best coffee in Nashville. I always get my regular latte with the homemade vanilla syrup. It's dee-lish. (I'm wondering if the 2013 negative comments below are from a previous management or something. I've not tried any of their food. I'll have to sometime & check it out.)

I've lived a few blocks away from this place for almost a year and a half, and never set foot near it because I was fearful that it might be a wormhole of snobby young-professionals. Boy, was I wrong! I mean, partially. I'm sure there were a few snobby-young professionals in there too for good measure. Anyway, a happy-mistake led me here one day before work when I was too much in a hurry to explore the newly-opened Headquarters. Alot of places 'claim' to be doing it, but Dose actually 'DOES' it. They give a shizz about what they're serving (i.e. delicious/organics), have a clean, limited menu and offer all sorts of options for everyone. I was grinning when I saw they had four different kinds of gluten-free scones and cookies! Holy, what?!! I was happy-dancin'. Dose is clean, fresh, and has a really nice presentation. I highly recommend starting a morning here!

They have good coffee and pastries and breakfast sandwiches. They also have lunch sandwiches, which I have not tried - but I'm sure they are also delicious. I go here all the time because it's on my way to work... And they honestly have some of the best prices in town as far as quality espresso drinks, I think. I have paid way more than $3 after tax for a cappuccino at other coffee shops that weren't even as good.

Oh, Dose...how have I not reviewed you yet. If you look at my online banking transactions, you will see yourself listed about 12,000 times. I even stopped going the back way to work in the mornings so I can stop and see you. I'm a basic sort of person I suppose: I basically always order coffee, iced in summer, hot in winter. If I'm not already late to work, an americano. But coffee is why Dose is my favorite coffeehouse in Nashville...their selections for the by-the-cup methods, as well as what they choose to have for daily drip have really opened my eyes to the complexity of the bean. They feature independent regional and national roasters that rotate, so there is always something new to try. The loose-leaf tea selections seem to rotate as well. The staff is all knowledgeable, and have settled into the role of the friendly neighborhood shop. They seem to know every regular's usual order. Odds are you will find one of the two owners there slinging espresso or filling food orders. Also, they do some of the prettiest latte art I've seen. They serve Bagel Face bagels with a variety of good spreads including fig preserves, homemade hummus and veggie cream cheese (this also appears to be blended in house). The baked goods are also delicious (that giant cookie is amazing). Their breakfast sandwiches are made with real eggs rather than the stuff you pour from a carton. I admit, my husband and I are usually camped out in a booth doing work on the weekends, but we skedaddle when it starts to get busy in there. Ya, parking sucks. Not really anything you can do about that though. And the city really needs to put a new signal pattern on the intersection at West End...I usually have to dart out and weave through 3 lines of cars to hop on 440. As a regular, I find the busy-ness of Dose is variable in the morning. Some days there's a line 10 people long, and other times I walk up with no one in front of me. I can see why some people complain about the speed, but I'd like to implore them to pick two points from the project triangle: GOOD - CHEAP - FAST. If you want it fast and cheap, go to Starbucks. (also, I realize only designers would care... but NICE TYPOGRAPHY!)

I was sort of middle of the road on Dose. By no means was it bad, but it wasn't really memorable either. The café itself was pretty cool, and they were currently pouring Ceremony (from Annapolis, MD; which was a new roaster for me. So that IS one advantage they have as being a multi-roaster. I was psyched to sample an offering from Ceremony (it was good), but I wasn't floored like I was at Barista Parlor or Crema, although to be fair, Dose would have had to been incredible to register high after hitting those spots earlier in the day. I would hit it again, especially since it's like 2 minutes from Climb Nashville, but I wouldn't make a special stop with B.P and Crema in the area.

It isn't likely this will become a regular haunt of mine any time soon considering it is on the opposite side of town, and in close proximity to my personal fave in this area Star Bagel. That being said, if I were on this side of town on weekends, rather than just week days to take the little one to school, I would likely stop in from time to time. Dose has a nice mix of folks, the service is fast and pretty friendly although in my opinion less personable than my East side faves. I ordered on this visit a half decaf Americano, it was very, very good - smooth and creamy tasting like it should be, perfect temp. It was priced at about $2.50 but their cups are smaller than Sip it appears so I paid a bit more for less coffee, oh well it hit the spot! Only things Dose lacks are: more personable experience (although if I visisted more often Im sure this would be the case), warmer environment, the decor is very modern/ rustic? I truly like it, but its a tad cold, better value for your dollar and lastly completely uncontrollable, the parking situation. They share a strip of parking spots with the neighboring Wine shop and parking here is an absolute nightmare! Definitely try again, won't be a regular but the Americano was delicious. 4 stars mainly for the Americano and the very clean appearance.

I swung by here and grabbed a drink and a bagel before heading over to a friend's place. I ordered the ginger latte, because it sounded interesting. Ginger flavored things are usually hit or miss with me. I like the feeling that the ginger left on my tongues, but I was not completely blown away by the taste. It was ok, but I'm not sure if I would order it again. I also got a plain bagel as well. It was a little salty at first, but it complimented well with the ginger latte. There is some seating outside. The inside is very neat and I like the wooden furniture. The staff is polite and friendly but not like in yo' face-I'm-forcing-a-conversation. I want to come back for a London Fog due to Kim Y's suggestion and for a regular cup of coffee.

I'm always on the prowl for a good coffee shop where I can enjoy a cuppa tea and a leisurely perusal of the magazines that I've neglected on my dining room table without feeling rushed or sensing I'm interrupting a collegiate chemistry study session. Dose is one of these such places, friends! I went on a Saturday morning around 11 am and was pleasantly surprised by its relaxed ambiance and convenient location right off of West End. The hot tea was fantastic (no pre-fab tea bags a la Starbucks--they create fresh sachets!) and the Bagel Face bagel with schmear was a lovely accompaniment. I've seen some mixed reviews here for their espresso fare, so I'll have to do some further investigation. I can attest that the selection of noshes was a little lacking, but I'll definitely be back when Starbucks just won't cut it and the thought of braving the college crowds at Fido and Bongo Java gives me the jitters (and not the good kind I get from a sweet java fix!).

I am no coffee shop frequenter. I mean, first off, they lack booze. Second, I am usually running so late for work I don't have time to stop by somewhere and get a specialty coffee. But on Saturday, after a boxing workout, a friend and I went to Dose for some coffee and maybe some food. For a Saturday at 10:30am they weren't particularly busy which was nice because we could grab a nice table on the sidewalk. I perused the menu which includes just regular coffees, lattes, cappucino, and other specialty drinks. It also included specially brewed coffee in presses and other things I don't understand but know that coffee snobs love. They had a small case of pastries, banana breads, etc. And then I saw they had breakfast sandwiches too! So I ordered the only thing I could once I saw my options: a ginger latte and a spicy egg sandwich. So we went outside with our number and plopped it on the table. If you get regular coffee you can serve yourself. If you order a latte you are apparently supposed to stand inside and wait for them to call. I guess I got confused because of the number thing but I went back in and it was ready. The ginger latte was indeed awesome! Tasted like real ginger and smooth milky coffee. Yum! Then the sandwich. Um yes! The egg was fried and covered in some spices, and placed on a bagel of your choice. They serve with a side of tabasco sauce. It was a perfect size (i.e. not a huge bagel with 700 calories, but a regular sized bagel for a regular serving size that people should ACTUALLY be eating) and I loved it. The only thing that could have made it better is if it was cooked over easy. I'm not entirely sure I couldn't have asked for it that way. Would have made it messier but would have made it even more dreamy. Overall tasty coffee and surprisingly tasty breakfast sandwich. I will definitely be back...well, I'll be back the next time I'm up and at 'em on a Saturday morning and needing a small snack and coffee.
