The food is fantastic. My go to just about anywhere is a torta al pastor. These guys nail it. Location is a plus. If you go on a warm day you can close your eyes and wonder whether you've died and gone to Texas.

I'm not kidding around when I say this is THE PLACE for tacos and other such foods in Nashville. Totally legit, this place is the real deal. The staff are some of the nicest I've come across and the price is right! All the tacos are amazing, but I HIGHLY suggest the Barbacoa Torta. Thank me later.

Really delicious. Really fresh corn tortilla, juicy well seasoned meats (Ihave tried tongue*****, and chicken****), topped with grilled onions and an amazing dreamy, creamy sauce. I will definitely go again. It is hard to see from the road, set a bit back. You can park right next door. The people are friendly, the service was really fast. A great place for lunch.

I never order carnitas, except for at this place. Tender and juicy with a crispy outside. Definitely done the right way. And they put so much meat I the carnitas taco that you almost can't fold it. Perfect.

Ok, so you've had tacos before? Nope, not unless you've had one of these or from another taco stand. Meat, cilantro, onions. Lime if you want it (you do) and green sauce (a must!). Get the carnitas. You won't want anything else. I've been here probably a dozen times and the staff is always very pleasant, serve your food promptly, and will give you free samples from time to time. Eat them. On Wednesdays they do a special on whole chickens: two for $15 with rice, beans, tortillas, onions, and poblanos. This is delicious, falling-off-the-bone smoked chicken that is some of the best chicken I've ever had. I recommend going with friends, preferably 4, if you're going for the chicken. The only way this place could be better is if they also served beer.

We ate here and thought the food was pretty good. One of us had the beef tongue and pork skin tacos. Food was good, but not 4 or 5 star worthy.

I am amazed how many good reviews this place gets. Either people around here don't know what good food is or I got a bad cook that day. Why 1 star? Because I wasted $12 and couldn't eat more than a bit of this nastiness. The chicken was full of grizzle, there was no flavor and the dish smelled awful. Authentic or not, there are much better places to get your mexican.

This place is comparable to Taqueria San Luis. It's pretty good, but not as good as some of the Mexican food trucks (roach coaches) available in Nashville. Overall the meat is more juicy than the meat at the Taqueria San Luis window. I ordered 4 items: chicken quesadilla and three tacos (chicharron, asada, and pastor). The chicken quesadilla is relatively similar to the one at Taqueria San Luis--relatively flavorless but juicy. The chicharron taco was a pleasant surprise because it's often not available at most Mexican places in Nashville. It was juicy and spicy, but had moderate flavor. The asada here is more juicy but less flavorful than the asada at Taqueria San Luis. And the pastor is juicy, more spicy than most places, but not as flavorful as the pastor found at food trucks. When I looked around me, I noticed a lot of non-Hispanic clientele. It's a decent joint that's better than most Mexican restaurants in Nashville but definitely not the best. I feel that the food items aren't quite flavorful, but try to make up by adding more spice than you would find at other establishments. I do appreciate the wider variety here than at San Luis or the delicious Mexican food trucks. 1 quesadilla ($5) + 3 tacos ($1) = $8.00.

Okay, so I'm having sort of a hard times putting words together at the moment on account of the taco/horchata-induced food coma I'm currently experiencing... Why people go and spend $5 on a specialty "craft" taco I will never understand... tacos here are $1.25 and quesadillas & burritos aren't much more! Get an authentic taste of Mexico and more bang for your buck here than anywhere else in Nashville (except maybe Taco Bell, which doesn't exactly count, nor compare!) Also, did I mention they have a drive-thru?! Personally, the chorizo tacos & a large horchata are my go-to's.

This is a hidden gem in Nashville and I think I've been here more times than any other restaurant in town. Don't let the appearance scare you off and if you're lazy like me you can rejoice in the fact they even have a drive thru. First and foremost, order a large Horchata. If you've never had it you can thank me later for opening your world to this delicious drink. As far as food goes I stick with what I love and always get the chicken quesadillas which comes with rice. Ask for a side of the green sauce but be careful because it is very spicy so don't overload your dish with it without testing it first. I think the two things combined usually runs me about $8 so you can count on fresh delicious food, generous portion sizes for a very reasonable low price.

About the only Hispanic thing about me is my last name and my Latino "roots" go no further than those 5 letters. So my skinny white butt was ecstatic to stumble across Carniceria Y Taqueria Don Juan. The last time I saw a hanging slab of juicy pork or beef that was being shaved per taco order was when I travel up and down Baja. My 11 words in Spanish was no place for this authentic taqueria...you can get 4 carne Asada tacos for $5! You name it, they have your choice of meat here to pair with their corn tortillas, cilantro and lime. Simplicity is what makes this place great, not putting "Mas" on their "tacos". You won't be disappointed! These are the best most authentic street tacos I've had west of LA. Gracias por el tacos Don Juan, my gringo girl corazon is content.

I need to update my review *see review from couple weeks ago* I have since discovered A different taco truck and have dropped Don Juan from my list. The service is incredibly slow and rude (the mother rude, the daughter slow) at Don Juan and order accuracy is completely off. and I just don't get that at all from The new truck I have been visiting. Venture 0.2 miles down the road and get way better! The food may taste good here but I cannot stand shitty service!

Tacos melt in your mouth, I love the Asada and the beef, the spicy sauce makes these gems the best, you can't just eat a couple, you need at least 4-6.

Order a day ahead for tamales. They will make to order chicken or pork with green or red chilli. Always a monster hit at out Titans tailgate.

Great Asada Tacos! Mexican Coke set the meal off just right. We came in the middle of the day so no frijoles and they were cook ing the taco sauce. So it was real authentic.

I used to live in Nashville and loved the tacos here but moved to LA for 5 years ago, all of my LA friends told me about different taco spots that were "the best" but nothing came close to the tacos at this place. I just moved back to Nashville with one of my LA buddies and we had their tacos today.... They were even better than I remember!!

Really great tacos at a great prices. Place looks rough but delicious food for a cheap quick meal.

This is hands down the best taco place I have found in Nashville. Don't be scared by the downtrodden look of the place and the drive through only. The tacos are authentic, flavorful, and excellent. I've had better in other cities, but there is nothing better in Middle TN, so they get 5 stars.

BEST TACOS I'VE EVER HAD. SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE. I lived in LA for 4 years and never had a taco this good. I never give yelp reviews but I had to just to try and help this place out. Get the green creamy hot sauce.

I'm from Los Angeles where Mexican food is as common as coffee shops, but these tacos beat any LA Mexican I've had. They're served on small corn tortillas with cilantro and lime (same as in LA), but also with a side of a creamy sauce. Make no mistake, this sauce is HOT. The horchata is a little sweet for my liking, but is obviously homemade and has excellent flavor. I'd eat here every Taco Tuesday.

There is not better place for great tacos at a cheap price, my gf and I make it a point to stop by Don Juans whenever we're in the Nolensville area. Tacos de Carne asada definitely hit the spot and their little sitting area outside def makes the whole experience.

Check it out - the carnitas tacos are the tastiest I've had in years - really delish. Try the green sauce. Definetly coming back.

Visit this taqueria for no-frills authentic (meat, cilantro, onion) tacos. Out of the carnitas, al pastor, and asada varieties, I preferred the al pastor with a GIANT cup of jamaica (hibiscus) drink to share. Four tacos and the drink came to $8 and change. All seating is outdoor, but a screened in area provides coverage from sun and insects. Service is friendly, and prices are low. I'll be back!

I was honestly a little timid to try this place when I heard they had cow tongue tacos and then once we pulled up but....OMG! Best authentic Mexican food I've had in America! I explained my experience to my husband... It was like we were back in Cozumel Mexico, at that small restaurant on the beach. True authentic food! I highly recommend!

  • Mike W.

Lets be honest here, from looking at the building, you might think the food would be on the sketchy side. The outdoor seating is under a carport next to the drive thru, the menu is painted on the side of the building and there is what appears to be a play area for kids fenced off with chicken wire. However, that has no bearing on the quality of the food. The food is great, reasonably priced and the green sauce they give you with your order is nothing short of fantabulous. If you happen to be there when they have the grills going, you'll think you have died and gone to heaven. Don't judge a book by its cover. Be brave, step out of your comfort zone, live a little for the love of... Just try it, you will be glad you did.

The place looked sketchy so we were hesitant but with yelp reviews we had to stop. The food is really good and inexpensive. So worth the stop. We had the chicharrones with rice and beef tounge tacos.

  • Kate S.

Here's what to expect if you've never ordered legit tacos before... Tacos are one dollar. Corn tortillas, shredded smoked meats (chicken, beef, pork, etc), onions, cilantro, lime. They will give you a bottle of light green sauce to put on your taco. It's spicy and the best we can tell, we think it's avocado and sour cream based (?). Delish. There is no lettuce or tomato on a real taco. This place is awesome. Don't be afraid. Just do it.

  • Ana M.

Maybe we hit it on a bad day, but sadly Don Juan really didn't live up to the hype. We ordered a variety of tacos and a quesadilla. The only saving grace would have to be the Barbacoa, which although a bit fatty, was very flavorful and right on in terms of authenticity. The Pastor and Carnitas were both really dry and the Carne Asada was tough and fatty. So sad, because we were hoping for great tacos. Plus, even though it's not what they're known for, the chips and salsa were obviously store bought.

  • Shami K.

Don't be scared by the questionable exterior and odd setup. The food is amazing. No frills, which I am okay with because the tacos are about $1.50. Corn tortillas, meat that is never dry, onion, cilantro, and amazing green sauce that is super spicy! They have some outdoor seating- again, no frills. This place ties with Mas Tacos in east Nashville for the best tacos in town.

I tried 4 tacos, one of each, chicken, pork, ground beef, and spicy chicken, it was good, not great. I will totally try it again though, who says no to authentic Mexican?

  • Zach G.

You know you are getting LEGIT mexican food when you are sitting at a fold up table with fold down chairs underneath a carport right next to the drive thru....best taco's in Nashville is a statement and it's true...the green sauce is the greatest....I love ordering their Chorizo Taco's, mainly because the girl taking my order smiles, which means I know a thing or two about Mexican food. So avoid the CHAIN crappy Tex-Mex places....that litter our town...let those that think great shopping is getting a deal at Big Lots enjoy their crappy mexican food..and come down to this place and have the best tasting taco's you can get in Nashville...cheap as can be too...$1.25 PER TACO...I think Burrito's are $5 bucks and HUGE....girth not length...just like the ladies like...uh....I'll stop while I'm ahead....

Best tacos in town! For sure try one of each your first time, but the tacos pastor are my favorite. The prices are awesome for the amount of meat you get on the taco. Definitely would recommend this place next time you consider a chain :)

Outstanding. Authentic. Delicious. Chicken, carnitas, and barbacoa are my faves, but I've had them all.

Just the best. The pastor is the best taco, the sauce more than earns all these rave reviews, plus the horchata is amazing.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
