I think this place was awesome, but I don't remember. I know the girl selling longnecks by the front door was friendly, and the drinks weren't shockingly expensive, and the music was probably good. I don't think there was a cover, and they had TVs. So good we went back the next night! Glad they let us back in haha :)

Hmm...the mixed reviews must be based on what band is playing that night. The night I went it was a country band and they played fiddle which I like. It is a dive bar, nothing fancy, but it's a good place to hear some live music.

I love a great dive bar, and this one definitely has all of the aspects. The bathroom has curtains instead of doors for the stalls, shots are $5 and double sized, and beers are served in plastic cups. As an added bonus, I went there twice on a long weekend (once in the middle of the day and once at night) and both times, great singers backed up by awesome bands were playing covers of your favorite new and old country songs. Great for the middle of the day or late night.

Cool place to be. Bar tenders are all smoking! Does this count? Normal "Nashville" bar though.

Live music & the best jello shots of my life!! What more can one ask for?!? Just go and enjoy a blue raspberry jello shot for me! Oh and don't forget to shake it on the dance floor me too.

I'm not entirely sure what happened here. I think it's a heavy metal bar? Filled with girls dressed to the nines, frat boys and people that get scraped off the street in the morning, I'm not sure whom they are trying to cater to. It's not a great divey bar; it's just bizarre and skeevy. Still, they don't charge a cover, so I was all for that!

This is definately a dive bar but they always have great drink specials and great bands. Some nights it can get a little heavy metal but I usually always start the night out there.

Never had a bad time at BIG SHOTZ----love the classic rock music that they are typically playing----you can get pretty hammered here if you don't watch because they always have drink specials and they are really good...the food specials are good too...the little cheese stuffed pretzel bites are freakin' awesome......they take request for songs like ac/dc and stones all the things you want to hear and sing along to.....if your looking for a good time but not the meat market scene go here---it is just old hippes and drinkers that love music hanging out and enjoying life....

It's a dive bar that has it all; no cover, cheap drinks and great live music. I stopped here on Memorial day weekend with some friends and it was our favorite bar in Nashville. We would definitely recommend if you're looking for a good time without emptying your wallet.

I need to update my review- The bar has reopened!

Cheap double shots that taste great, fantastic music and service! If you're visiting downtown Nashville for the first time like I was, this is a great starting point for Broadway night life. It's a quiet, small dive bar with a large variety of drinks and shots (particularly if you love fireball). Wish I'd found this place sooner in my Nashville journey!

The place was smoky and not friendly. I would not recommend spending your money. I tried the Collier & McKeel Bourbon, not impressed.

Cheep drinks is the only thing going for this place. Thursday night was empty. The band was too loud (and I like loud, live music). A group of us went in for a drink or two, the band talked to us in between every song. Sure, I do dislike this place mostly because of the band that was playing, but the atmosphere was awful. When we finally left, which did not come soon enough, there were two other people left in the bar on a Thursday night.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU COMBINE A KARAOKE BAR AND A HIP HOP CLUB? You get a WACK place that doesn't know what it is! This place is so GHETTO! You have the bottom part which seemed like a cool Karaoke spot but when you go to the second floor, you find yourself in a HUGE, dark empty ghetto room with the most ghetto music EVER! Take my advice= STAY AWAY!

When we walked in the place was empty except the bartender and three other people. It was dark, dank and dingy, there was writing all over the walls, smoking allowed inside, dirty and disgusting...a true dive bar. I just love dive bars for many reasons but mostly because you can still get a great drink at a cheap price. While we were able to get cheap drinks, there was barely a choice of drinks to choose from. I am hoping they just had one hell of a night the night before and sold out of everything, but either way every beer I tried to order (first tried all of the local TN brews, then my favorites) they were out of almost everything, the bartender just opened the refrigerator so I could see what they had and end the guessing game. I ended up with some basic not so great warm beer. They had a variety of shots...we tried the cherry soaked fireball $1 each, it was just what it sounds like, a cherry soaked in Fireball Whiskey. I thought it was pretty good. The live band was playing 90's cover music, he was really good and we enjoyed it, but we were there to experience the country vibe...so after our drinks we moved on. If they were playing country music and had a decent selection of (cold) beer this place would have been so much better.

Two dollar beers, bartenders are friendly. If this bar was in Dallas it would be packed every day and more likely in Deep Ellum. I really liked this bar I would definitely go here againg.

The owner of this bar is a sloppy crazy and antagonistic type- perfect for customer service. We got to witness/participate in a full blown bar brawl that started with big blonde owner gal and her friend starting a fight after said friend was flashing her lady bits and karaoke-ing into our friends beer, getting up in peoples faces etc, and when the fight moved outside the friends decided to fight each other instead. I can't say a single nice thing, your time and money are better spent elsewhere.

Never do business with this place. Owner has horrible business ethics. It's a newer spot and I guess they just haven't figured out how to treat people right. Save your money for a place that's worth it.

One of the spots around here that I'll refuse to return to if asked. I love a good dive, but this place really had no redeeming qualities, with faux promos that are perennial non-deals...

Cheap drinks and quick bites, I happened to see a fantastic band whose guitarist was playing mad notes on his Tele. Awesome band! Definitely a dive but good service from the bar. Small and dark, don't be intimidated. Dirty, stinky, sticky...yeah that is true but it's a fun place. The bathroom walls have no lack of jokes about you manhood, so don't take it personally! Cool place to unwind and get started hitting the rest of the scene. Let your hair down, just don't take off your shoes.

We stopped in for $5 double shots. All delicious. We left because it was like 7pm and empty. But definitely good for a start of the night double shot!

Wow. Looking for a place that played more rock music than a honky-tonk and found it. Rock-and-roll loving teenagers(who can get past the bouncer) and older will love this place. I heard AC/DC and Bob Seger mixed in with other tunes including 2 servings of Sweet Home Alabama (UA and UT were playing each other last night). There is a small dance floor that was also used for standing. The drink and food system is simple and posted in several places. The house draft (an orange-infused Shock Top) is $2, other beers $3, something else for $4, a list of "Double Shotz" is $5, and food is $6. The crowd is loud, boisterous and friendly. I would peg the crowd at less than half being local and the rest being tourists. Our group had less locals than tourists and I met people from Tampa and somewhere in OH. The service at the bar can be slow (inattentive) at times, and waitresses walking the floor only hawk shots and don't get drinks from the bar.

My friend said he knew a magical place on 2nd Ave where you could get cheap drinks and shots. Ok, let's go!! So we went to Big Shotz. I did NOT like paying cover at the door - shouldn't they have some rule that locals get in free? Oh wait, I still have my TX driver's license. Ok, tourist I am! The band was playing country and they were actually pretty good. Seemed like there was a chick singer. Apparently I was tipsy enough not to really notice. Anyway, hopefully the cover was for the band because that would be ok then. So this is a dive that has an entire menu of shots that aren't entirely uncreative or entirely overpriced. Mixed drinks were also reasonable. The bartender lass was reasonably nice and reasonably quick with the drinks but they aren't there to win any friendly awards I don't think. They also have small munchies for $4 each - we had chicken fries. Just a basket of previously frozen chicken strips that were actually perfect to soak up some of the booze. The crowd was an interesting mix of locals and tourists both of the 21 year old and the 61 year old variety. Did I see huge pink cowboy hats? Yep. Did I see drunk people stumbling and saying WOOOHOOO! Yep. And, for once, neither of them were me! I can't say I recommend this place but I can't say I don't either. It was fine for some live music and some cheap drinks. Go for a while to do some shots and then head out to some other bars!!

Good music. Nice atmosphere. The "double shots" are made from cheap liquor.

Management at this bar is below par and cares very little for their customer. They served warm beer and when confronted about it wouldn't replace them for cold ones. When you go to a bar you should expect beer that was at least put in ice or in a fridge. I will not go back as there are many better bars especially on the same street.

This is the dive-iest of dive bars a midst a row of other dive bars. The music was great. The beer was cheap (like $2 for 6oz). The tables were really sticky. The smoke was thick. Anything that wasn't beer (I can't do gluten) was crazy expensive. My very weak dixie cup of vodka/cran was $7!! In retrospect I should have just done a couple of jello shots. Great fun though.

My sis 'n' I wandered in early, EARLY in the afternoon last Saturday. Lured in with the promise of cheap drinks, live music and no cover, we were. $3 bottles of Dos Equis & $5 Fireball shots. Yes. Also smoking indoors, which I both love and hate. Anyhow, very rowdy for 4 in the afternoon. But it seemed that every joint in Nashville was kickin' at this time of day, much to my surprise. Soon the band takes the stage. 2 muy sexylike countryrocker dudes, a bassist, drummer and a kickass guitarist who may be better suited to a rockabilly act. Hot damn, they could play. As they told us, they played for tips and would be our private old rock/country jukebox for the next three hours. Waylon Jennings, Conway Twitty, Willie Nelson, Skynard, etc... lots of singin' along and dancing asses off. The band was hilarious in their banter w the crowd and I felt a great, we're-all-in-this-together vibe. And I don't use that word "vibe" very often. Kickass dive with amazingly good live music (at least the Saturday nite I was there. tried to research this more but the Big Shotz website kinda sucks.) Didn't try the food but I do trust it was there. So much fun. Damn, I love Nashville.

I took some friends of mine downtown for some honky tonkin'. We got lured in by the cheap drinks, but immediately regretted stopping in. The band was not very good and the cheap draft beer came in a small cheap 8oz. plastic cup. They did not have a very good selection of beer either. We had one drink and left very disappointed. If you prefer rock to country and you prefer shots to beer, then you may have fun here. It just wasn't for me.

I had a GREAT time here when I was in town. A killer southern rock cover band was playing and the place was jumpin'. The crowd was excited, and everyone seemed to be having fun. The shots are really creative, and CHEAP! The beer was inexpensive as well, $2 Shiners among others. The bartenders were really friendly and speedy. Definitely my favorite bar of the evening. I'll be back to visit next time I'm around those parts.

It was a great place for some acoustic music during the day, cheap drinks. At night it got smokey so for a non smoker it wasn't enjoyable. Overall it was a decent experience

Live band was ok when we were there, but you can't beat the prices. Great place to go and grab a few drinks before heading out (if you choose) somewhere more crowded. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere is decent.

They always have good music. Saturday night a really really good Texas southern rock/Country band playing. One of the best i have seen in Nashville. Sort of a hole in the wall. We always have good time there.

I have never paid attention to the atmosphere. I just came here as a local that wanted cheap drinks without a cover, and my needs were always exceeded. The end.

We loved this bar! The bartenders were awesome, the music was great, and the drink specials were crazy! I hate walking into a bar and having no idea if they're charging me $2 or $6 for a draft beer! Here everything was easy to figure out! My friends and I had a blast! I can't wait to go back to Nashville next month, this is definitely somewhere I'll be going back to!
