Excellent bakery! The Emma Lou is quite amazing and the staff are super friendly.

Wow! Every bread they make is fantastic. I especially like the morning bun. The ham and cheese on a baguette is perfectly toasted with a nice balance of cheese and ham. For me, the bread is the most important ingredient in a sandwich, and they do it right at this place.

Holy wow! This is an amazing little bakery. I already knew them from their breads and from their pizzas at their farmers market location. This little shop is just perfect and I'm dreading the day its popularity catches up with its quality--it's only been open a month and I predict that by the fall there will always be a line. The premise is simple (and one that I'm surprised took this long to get realized in Nashville): well made breads--world class breads actually--and a few sandwich options for even extra enticement to get you in the door. The Crema coffee is a bonus. This morning my wife and I happened by and we each got a breakfast sandwich--the ham, egg and cheese for me, the Emma Lou for my wife. Both were delicious and had a rustic simplicity that made for great start to the day. Even better, we all finally have the option to buy fresh Bella breads throughout the week.

Best bread in Nashville by far. Best sandwiches in Nashville by far.... if you like to have a sandwich where all ingredients are important (and bread is important in a sandwich it is not only what holds the meat in place). Also, a good bread MUST have a good crust... that's how bread is made... if not just go for supermarket sandwich bread. It's pricey but I haven't found a better bread in the city yet not even at La Provence.

The Emma Lou (vegetarian) is incredibly delicious. For 5 dollars, you're getting a generously sized egg, pickled turnips, smoked cheddar and chipotle aioli sandwich on a baguette that is pretty much what dreams are made of. My new favorite neighborhood stop-in.

Stumbled upon Bella Nashville today; hadn't heard of it and was driving around after discovering Yeast Nashville was closed today. I went in with my 3yo and 1yo. The staff was so nice. They were out of ham and peanut butter, so we decided on the Emma Lou for my 3yo, the roast beef for me and a shortbread cookie and the breakfast bun with cream cheese for all of us to share. All of it was so delicious! My 3yo vacuumed up her Emma Lou (pickled turnips and all! I mentioned there were pickles on the sandwich, but didn't say what kind and she said, "Pickles! Yum!") after we traded a couple bites of our sandwiches. The bun with house made cream cheese was soft and delicious and easier for my 1yo to handle (she can't quite do the crusty, chewy bread yet). The cookie, oh the cookie! Buttery and flaky and made me want several more. We took home a demi baguette that is also wonderful. It was tricky to eat with the baby as seating consists of 7 or so tall stools. I will probably get our food to go next time; I can't wait for the next time!

I just spent a weekend in Nashville and I did a lot. The one consistency that gave some homeliness to the debauchery was the daily trip to Bella. I simply happened upon the shop by way of double-take window shopping on Friday morning - and entering the cute, endearing space (while, admittedly, en route to a different cafe which i never actually made it to) was a great move. Three cups of Crema coffee and five rustic and delicious sandwiches (and one delightful breakfast bun) later and I am a huge fan. The desam wheat bread is not beatable. The homemade honey-pb and sliced local strawberry sandwich was perfect for the warm Nashville morning sun. I wish that all the cashiers I encountered shared the same kindness and enthusiasm of the ladies working there on my first visit (and of the cheery bakers); however, this is a place not to be missed (and, though a cup of drip coffee may be a whopping $3, the sandwiches are beyond reasonable).

Hot organic egg on a fresh baguette is yummo with a cup of Crema coffee at Bella Nashville Bakery in the morning. Good pastries include a buttery brioche roll, good by itself or with condiment. Bella grinds wheat kernels daily and the coffees are also fresh ground at nearby Crema, producing artisan breads and serving artisan coffee. A good pairing, for real. The heavy dense loaves of bread remind me of the artisan bread at Great Harvest. Most loaves are lighter with the sourdough being my favorite. Quality is such that I don't mind that its a takeout bakery selling retail to neighbors and commercially to restaurants with no current sitdown dining. But I wouldn't be surprised if Bella bakery someday evolved into a Great Harvest style East Nashville equivalent.

You people in Nashville are so lucky! Outstanding bread and lovely people, in a cool neighborhood. We were visiting from Brooklyn for a day and stopped here to cool off with a cold drink, after getting bikeshares and riding over the river from downtown Nashville (one star to the city for its poor infrastructure for cyclists!). The bakery owner - wait for it - hails from Brooklyn. Bought a loaf to give to friends who live in Nashville (and didn't know the bakery). Got a great recommendation for dinner nearby, at Rumors East Wine Bar. Even better, the owner validated our idea to go to Cummins Falls, which we did and LOVED it. Thank you!

The sandwiches at this shop are pretty good. They've got a ham, egg and cheese sandwich that is rich and lovely. However the service is a little lacking. I came in the other day with a few questions about the menu. The staff just stared at me awkwardly before answering and when they did answer it was honestly in a slightly condescending manner. So go in for the food, but don't expect great service.

If you're going to eat carbs, eat good carbs. Or so the saying goes. Welcome to Bella, easily the best bread in the city. There is no close second, third or 27th. This is bread Parisians would be proud to tire their jaw upon. Its not cheap nor should it be. Its fantastic. The sandwiches are amazing. Simple ham and cheese becomes something altogether more lovely when artfully made and wrapped in real bread. Bear in mind this isn't a restaurant, its a bakery, be patient when you order and you'll be glad you did. Welcome to the Nasty Bella, good to have you.

I've had the morning bun and emmy lou and both are amazing, best bread I've ever had. However, I can't bring myself to go back due to the employees working on my last visit. Everyone seemed grouchy when we walked in to start. We ordered a morning bun & emmy lou and asked that the sandwich be cut in half as we were sharing both. Our orders were taken, we paid, and sat down all with less than 3 words from the cashier. Service was quite slow, though I generally don't mind a wait when it comes with thoughtfully prepared food. I didn't check our sandwich until we had arrived back to our car. Sandwich wasn't cut in half. No big deal, I'll just run back in. I asked the cashier we could have it cut in half. She rolled her eyes, opened our sandwich and handled it without washing her hands or using gloves. She was the cashier, not the cook. Then pieces of the sandwich were falling out. She then again, used her unwashed hands that had been touching the register and handling money picked up the egg and veg to put it back in our sandwich. We were in such a hurry that I couldn't bother with asking for another and then waiting 10 min yet again for that one to be prepared. The sandwich went in the trash. We went on with our morning hungry.

This is the place in Nashville to get your FRESH bread! They have a wonderful tasting bar near the register, so you can sample their tasty treats. It was this tasting bar that brought me back (the very next morning!) to give the Breakfast Bun a shot. Oh man, this is one of my new faves for breakfast! RUN to Bella Nashville Bakery and try one out...oh, and make sure to get it w/ cream cheese. YUMMMMM!

We went to Bella last weekend for breakfast and got the ham and cheese breakfast sandwich. It was really good! My only complaint was it was too bread-y. It's served on a baguette. The baguette is really good, but a bit much for breakfast. it was a challenge to eat. I want to go back and try their lunch options--the menu looks promising!

  • Stephanie E.

They say that breakfast should be the biggest meal of the day- and at Bella Nashville bakery, they don't disappoint! The bread, whole wheat and ground in house, is stout and rich enough that a few slices can be taken as a meal itself. And while I'd dearly recommend taking home a loaf, one shouldn't skip out on the sandwiches crafted from that bread. I had the Emma Lou made from a small baguette, eggs, picked turnips, and special chipotle sauce. I rarely say this, but this totally vegetarian sandwich tasted like I was eating delicious ham! Just like at their pizzeria, Bella Nashville has native genius for making vegetarian, organic, and healthy foods taste like you are eating four star cuisine instead of tasting like you are doing some pretentious chore. And with prices this low and food this good, you'll question why you ever found that deep fried fast food crap appealing in the first place--

Just had the breakfast bun. It set me back exactly $2.18. The food is tasty and of fantastic value here. Staff is friendly. Awesome place to get work done. I'll be back!!!

Stopped in on a Friday morning and picked up a loaf of their whole wheat desem. They sliced it for me and I was on my way. My husband gobbled slices plain and I added some strawberry jam. You will never eat other bread again after eating this bread! It has ruined us for any other bread out there. I will a loaf on my way back to Kentucky so I can enjoy it just a bit longer...

I was so disappointed when I heard Bella sold to Frothy Monkey. We had been getting a subscription for a loaf of sourdough every week for over a year. The bread was always perfect and the people who worked there knew us by name and were always so friendly. The epitome of a local bakery! Every since Frothy took over the quality has gone WAY WAY down and some (not all) of the people who work there are extremely rude! Our loaf has been burnt on the bottom every week and the inside of the bread is really dense and chewy--not in a good way. One week, don't ask my how/why, but there was a clove of garlic baked into the bread. Poor quality control! Besides all of that, my biggest issue is how rude some of the people are. I went in towards the end of the day about a month ago. I try going late in the day because we like to have our bread sliced and it needs to be cool in order for them to slice it. The loaf was completely cool and the guy flat out refused to slice it for me, insisting that it was still warm on the inside and claiming that the slicer would "completely destroy" the inside of the loaf. Bella used to slice it as long as it was mostly cool and we never had a problem with the bread balling up in the slicer. For the record, I brought the loaf home and sliced it immediately and it was COMPLETELY cool on the inside. I think the guy was a manager based on how he was interacting with other employees, and he treated me so poorly that I honestly never want to go back in. Really condescending and negative attitude. This will be our last subscription with the Frothy bakery and we won't be patronizing any other Frothy establishments anymore either. I've made good sourdough bread at home before and I can do it again! **Update-for the sake of fairness, I picked up our loaf today and it's really good. Not flat, gummy, dense or burnt and no garlic cloves. And they sliced it! Still not happy with the way some of the employees treat the customers but I really think it's just bad management. I've experienced the same rudeness at the regular frothy coffee shops. Anyway. Better bread today, keep it up frothy!

    (2)
  • Katherine K.

Went in today for the first time since they sadly sold to Frothy Monkey. Underwhelmed, to say the least. They seem to mostly use it to supply their coffee shops, which makes the location strange. The place is filthier than my kitchen at home, which is saying something. There is flour EVERYwhere. The chalkboard is lackluster and barely legible. When you order off-menu to get a buttered baguette for your two year old because she was in love them from Bella, they will kindly accommodate. But they won't wrap it in wax paper and you will get a giant butter stain on your shirt while you walk to the car. While you're waiting you will hear employees joke about "fresh bread every day" and then cough "bullshit" under their breath. I haven't tried the product yet, but based on the state of the shop, I expect shite.

  • Bridget H.

What I liked: 1. Their breakfast bread is delicious! 2. Easy street parking when I was there midday. What I didn't like: 2. I only had the breakfast bread and I only wish that they had a great selection - everything looked and smelled delicious! The Verdict: Worth the trip to East Nashville. I can't wait to go back for more!

I've been thinking about the pastrami on sourdough wheat I ate here ever since I left Nashville a month ago. Simply delicious ingredients with lots of pickled options! Friendly service too!

  • Amy N.

This bread has ruined me for anything else. Seriously. It's fantastic. I would even go so far as to say the ham, egg and cheese sandwich is the best breakfast sandwich in Nashville -- with a close second (sometimes first-place) being the sausage biscuit at Barista Parlor. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because Bella serves all their sandwiches hot. (**Note: I might be wrong about that, but since everything I've ever ordered has been served hot, I'm making an assumption.**) Now don't get me wrong, I like a hot sandwich as much as the next person, but sandwiches that are made with greens should not be served hot. They just shouldn't. Hot, wilting lettuce and tomatoes are incredibly disgusting. Just my opinion. Solution! Next time I order a Bella sandwich that would be better cold, I'll be sure to request it that way. And there will definitely be a next time, the bread is way too good not to make it a regular stop during those times when I'm saying yes to carbs.

Ok... Nobody likes change, especially me. Last time I was in, the original owners were still transitioning and keeping an eye on quality control. Now that they are gone, this place has really entered a new phase. The breads seem to have remained unchanged, prices may have actually come down a bit, and that's all good. But, I miss those familiar friendly faces and the good tunes always spinning in the background. I also notice, as a previous reviewer noted, that the place is covered in flour. It just seems to me that if you are going to combine a commercial operation that bakes for all your stores while maintaining a retail outlet for neighborhood folks like me, you need to keep the place spic and span. It was never like this in the previous owners time. Looking behind the counter all I can see is too many people and general chaos in a small space. Things change with ownership, but what has changed the most is atmosphere, cleanliness and the care and integrity of a hands on mom and pop artisan bakery. This is not meant to discourage patronage, just an observation of how things can change when a bigger operation swallows up a small operation. It's all in the details and the details end up being blurry. So, Frothy Monkey, pay attention to the details!

Local bakery. Awesome sandwiches! I love their Peanut butter and seasonal fruit sandwich. They hot press it panini style. Bread is fresh and it smells so good inside. They have great beverages to buy also. The Breakfast bun is also good! Seating is small but I have never had a problem with it. I take it as more of a "drop-in-and-take-out" sort of place. I highly recommend the Peanut butter and seasonal fruit sandwich.

So glad I was early to an appointment so I could stop in Bella. It's a cute little bakery with big charm. I ordered the breakfast bun after sampling it. It is the perfect balance of flavor and texture. Order it with cream cheese for an added treat... Best cream cheese I've ever had.

Let's be honest - this is the best sourdough bread on the planet. Buying it warm from the shop is critical. A true work of art, I could exist solely on loaves of this bread for the rest of my life. Worth every penny.

Bella Nashville Bakery is in the cutest little area of East Nashville. It is a small little shop with quite a few sandwiches to choose from. Also, you can choose to build your own if they don't have one that appeals to you. In addition, they have little samples of all of their bread out on the counter in case you don't know which one to choose from. They serve their breakfast sandwiches all day which is a plus. I got there at noon without eating breakfast so I was in the mood for some eggs on my sandwich. I ordered the ham, egg and cheese on a baguette. The girl taking the order asked for my name for my sandwich. I waited about 10 minutes or so for my order to be ready. I had to stand while there were other people waiting for their orders and had taken most of the 5 or so seats. It really is a small little shop. I don't know how they would fit many people in if they got busy. Finally, the people sitting down got their food and left so I had a chance to sit down and wait. My name was then called to come get my sandwich. It was wrapped up in case I wanted to take it to go or I could sit and eat it. I chose to sit and eat it since I was so hungry. The sandwich had eggs that looked like they had been salt and peppered with cheddar cheese melted in the middle. The ham was thinly sliced on the baguette. All in all, it was a good sandwich. They also serve Crema coffee but I just had gotten a coffee from Barista Parlor so I didn't order any. I will definitely return!

Best bread in town, and a fantastic place to grab a quality sandwich for breakfast or lunch to boot. Emma and Dave are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet and you can tell they have a passion for what they do there.

Pastrami sandwich and pulled pork sandwich were both excellent! Cheese could've been meltier but flavors were great. Awesome bread (they are a bakery after all). They were out of sweet buns but def will get some next time I come in. Meat sourced from porter road butcher so you know you're getting quality protein. Good selection of alt soft drinks, brewed coffee from Crema my friend really liked. Don't like that they charge for filtered water.

I'm a huge fan of Bella Nashville so I was so excited to hear they were opening up the bakery! It definitely lives up to their reputation of great food! I got the ham and cheese on a baguette and it was delicious! Great price and it is such a big portion that I have the other half for a snack later!

Warning: once you buy bread here, you many not be able to tolerate the stuff you pick up at the grocery store anymore. Basically, Bella Nashville Bakery is is carb, meat and cheese heaven. Perfect examples include the ham and cheese, which is sort of the Platonic ideal of a sandwich, and the pimento cheese, which has the decency to be solidly spicy and the audacity to also be toasted in what is clearly a healthy dose of butter. The breakfast bun, with its subtle hints of citrus and almond, is also a great alternative to a lot of the overly sweet breakfast pastries out there, even with a healthy dollop of homemade cream cheese on it. This is one of my favorite recent additions to East Nashville. You may just see me there buying a baguette while stuffing my face with samples.

It is ok!! I took a loaf of sour dough home and got and a ham and cheese sandwich for 6 dollars. There was only 1 piece of ham on this sandwich and could not get any ham flavor. Let's spring for a little protein here!! The bread was nothing to write home to uncle dan who own our local bakery growing up. Matter of fact my bread knife could not saw thru the bottom crust.

When I first moved here, I bemoaned the lack of real bread, so I was ecstatic when Bella opened. They have three crusty breads, a sandwich loaf, and breakfast buns. The sourdough and desem (100% whole wheat) are delicious, crusty with a good crumb, and their demi-baguettes are everything a baguette should be (though I don't understand why they don't make a full baguette--I can eat a whole baguette myself! I don't want a half one!). I'm not enamored of the breakfast buns: though I appreciate that they're wheaty and not sweet, I'd rather just have a slice of buttered bread. What I'm less impressed by are the sandwiches. First, mayo use: They drench those poor sandwiches in the sloppy stuff. These are good sandwiches. If you cover them in mayo, I can't taste the delicious bread and egg and radish pickles. And my hands get oily--gross. Second, efficiency: A to-go sandwich place with hardly any seating (or standing room, for that matter!) should not take 30 minutes to make a sandwich. They seem to have only one burner, on which they fry the eggs one by one. A normal person's house has at four burners. Get another burner, Bella!

Bella Nashville is a much needed addition to East Nasty. Delicious whole wheat bread and friendly people! I got the Emmy Lou on Desem for breakfast and it was SO GOOD. Pickled turnips on a breakfast sandwich had me a bit puzzled, but it went together so well. So glad to have this bakery near and their Desem bread is hearty, delicious and not full of sugar and preservatives like most American bread. I'd highly recommend this joint!

Grabbed a few ham, egg, and cheese sammiches on Saturday for me and my boss on the way to a conference... Holy crap! They were INCREDIBLE. This is definitely going to be my new go-to for early morning breakfast. Thank you, Bella, for making it so easy and delicious to support local! Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
