Nutshell: One of the worst BBQ experiences I've ever had. Perhaps it was just a bad day, but I'll never go back. Very disappointing, because I enjoy trying new BBQ places. Details: My family and I were passing through Nashville on a vacation trip, and B&C was recommended to me by a friend who knows the owners. In particular, I was told that their flavored grits were great. My wife checked out the menu and immediately demanded that we go, if for nothing else than to try the pork eggrolls (advertised as eggrolls stuffed with pulled pork, cole slaw, and sweet sauce). I briefly checked out Yelp reviews and was excited to try it out since the general opinion is so high. We arrived there on 04/05 afternoon at about 1:45pm. There was no line, and that's nearly where the positive portion of the experience stopped. The person taking our order would not offer any suggestions, even after we mentioned twice that we were from out of town and had never been there before, and then we asked outright. In general staff was friendly, but since it's more of a counter-order place, you never really see them again after you pay. Ordered: 1) Pulled Pork Platter, Garlic-cheese grits + Chipotle Corn Salad (a cold salad of corn, cherry tomatoes in some mayo-based liquid - yuck!). 2) Pulled Pork Platter, Garlic-cheese grits + Cole Slaw 3) Kids Pulled Chicken meal, Green Beans + Mac-n-Cheese 4) Kids Pulled Pork, Green Beans + Mac-n-Cheese 5) Pork Eggrolls (more detail later) The garlic cheese grits tasted neither like garlic nor cheese, nor even properly made grits. It was just really bland. This trend continued in the mac-n-cheese (which someone reviewed as "spicy" earlier, and I can't imagine how). The only way it was edible was doused in salt and pepper. The cole slaw was overly sour (my wife LOVES cole slaw, and couldn't eat more than two bites of it). The Chipotle Corn Salad was awful, in my opinion, but that could be a taste issue. Of the sides, the mac-n-cheese was the best, but that isn't saying much. The green beans were mushy and tasteless as well. The cornbread muffins that came with the meal were not cooked well, but were ok. BBQ is a subjective thing, but I appreciate all "styles" as long as it is good quality. The pulled pork was cooked well, but my wife's plate was mostly fat. The pulled chicken I would rank as adequate. Everyone in my group liked the Sweet Heat sauce the best, but we did try the Mild and Hot and they were good too. To top all of this off, every single item we received (except the pork eggrolls below) was room temperature, at best. The pork eggrolls : When we ordered, we were told that it would take about 5 minutes. We didn't receive them until we were almost done - at least 15 minutes or more. They were burned on the outside, and slightly doughy and raw on the inside -- completely inedible. If the food had been even mediocre, the prices would have been reasonable for fast-food BBQ. As it was, it was a waste. We ended up having to eat somewhere else shortly after.

B&C Melrose is the definition of a "hidden gem." Their BBQ is very flavorful and is complemented well by some of the best sides you're going to find. My personal favorites are the jalapeño grits and the Buffalo chicken grits. I think I may have to drive down there right now for some lunch!

Pretty solid overall.. I have a couple of friends in from out of town.. We ate at Bar B Cutie last time, so we figured we'd try something a little different.. I wasn't sure what to expect from this place as I hadn't heard much about it. As we aren't familiar with the location, it took us a second to find as it is tucked off the road by the Kroger. The only downside to this place, is that is SMALL. The seating area holds a dozen or so tables, with room for about 30-40... You walk in and order cafeteria style. Per my normal first order at a new place, I got the pulled pork and mac n cheese.. The wife and I also split a side of dill pickle chips... I'll start with the pickles... Grease much? WOW, find a new batter; they were COVERED in grease and slid down my throat. With that said, they tasted ok, but about 10 minutes after I ate them, they started to settle and didn't settle well with all the grease. Find a new batter that doesn't hold the grease as much or disguises it. How about some corn meal or something? Everything else was good.. The pulled pork was tender, fat free and seasoned pretty well. It was good quality and had a good taste... I would put it on a different bun, or at least toast it up a bit... It was a plain uncooked bun that took away from the quality of the meat.. The mac and cheese was very good, it had a little spice and tasted great..Over all, this place was pretty good.. We'll be back if we are in the area and need some grubb.. Also, the prices are pretty good.. A combo with a side and drink was $6 I think? All 4 of us had combo's for about $33.

Stuck between 3 and 4 stars on this one.... but you'd be surprised how a smile and some bomb ass mac n cheese can sway the balance Positive: +Mac N Cheese is tasty as fuck. Flavor without being a Paula Deen artery clogger +Friendly dude behind the counter. +Sauce has a chili powder flavor that reminds me of Memphis +Clean In between: -A little offended that ol girl behind the counter tried to talk me outta a full slab plate saying it was a lot of food. Fortunately the dude working with her sensed my man card being pulled and told her to "let the man eat." Yes, young lady, I know what the fuck a full slab of ribs is. I wouldn't pay $20+ if it wasn't a lot of meat. Negative: - Maybe I'm blind, but I didnt' see fries on the menu. Traditional southern sides are good and all, but I dont think you can touch fries covered in meat drippings and bbq sauce. -Baby Back ribs weren't exactly fall off the bone tender. I'm not some old man gumming worried about dentures though. Fully capable of eating meat as long as it tastes right... Bottom Line: Best BBQ I've had in my limited Nashville BBQ experience, but it doesn't twist my nipples enough to have me driving from Franklin on the regular

I had to change my 5 star review as I visited the store again recently and the quality and quantity had both changed for the worst. The pulled pork was still the best I've ever had, but I was given about 1/5th of the amount I used to get. The grits were bland and the squash casserole was watery and tasteless. I won't go anymore because I went for the value. Now that they are so stingy with the pork, it simply isn't worth the cost, which is lame because it's so delicious.

I can't say that my meal was stellar, but it was definitely good and I would recommend the place. Out of the two dishes we ordered, I would suggest the pulled pork - the brisket was a bit dry. They serve a lot of different smoked meats (chicken, sausage, salmon, etc.) so I'm looking forward to going back and trying more and dipping them in the really awesome zydeco sauce. Their sides are really promising. They offer the staples - with the mac and cheese being the highlight of those staples in my opinion - but they also offer corn pudding, squash and new items daily (I took advantage of the collard greens - really good). Don't miss out on the corn muffin - it has a texture kind of like angel food cake. And they have a lot of different desserts that sounded great, I just didn't have any room left. P.S. Be sure to stand directly under the "Order Here" sign when you walk in because apparently they will ignore you until you do... at least that was my experience.

At first glance from the outside I was thinking this could go one of 3 ways. I ordered the pulled chicken. It was honestly perfect. All the different sauces were very flavorful. The hot was VERY hot for me. Which I enjoyed. The mac n cheese and collards were spot on as well. I would come back again when I visit Nashville. But I will always go to Boltons first! Peace out! I went to B&C Melrose BBQ while in Tennessee for work. I was looking for barbecue, this place had great Yelp reviews, and it was on my way to Franklin from Nashville, so it was a no-brainer. The staff at B&C are very welcoming and friendly. They allowed me to try the smoked turkey and the pulled pork since they were almost out of the turkey, and I also ordered the green beans and mac and cheese as my sides. I slathered the meat in the mild barbecue sauce, which had a great balance of sweetness and subtle heat. The food was so delicious--I ate it in probably five minutes flat. My only disappointment with this meal was that I wanted to try the bacon & cheddar grits, and they had run out. I would definitely go back the next time I'm in the Nashville area.

I had the good fortune to walk in for a late lunch as the brisket was just being delivered to the front. Perfectly prepared and beautiful with beans, tomatoes, cucumbers and cornbread. Don't forget a Shiner Bock.

Fast Food of BBQ with the good taste of a usual sit down restaurant. We were driving thru Nashville just after 5 pm on I 65 checking yelp for a place to have BBQ. This was perfect we've never had BBQ dinners for 2 for under $20. We had the pulled pork, with 2 sides. Tried the mac & cheese and creole slaw. Mac & Cheese was good, but I question the rave reviews? The creole slaw was more like a mustard slaw. I would have liked a bit of sugar to tame the tart, strong mustard. I wanted more of the cornbread muffins, they were great. The pulled pork was juicy and the original house BBQ sauce was just right. They have a few flavors to try. I would recommend this place when driving thru or if you want good BBQ without the wait.

I love this place and go back every time I am looking to get my brisket fix! The employees are always friendly and helpful. I usually take it back to the home to enjoy with the family, so I cannot comment too much on the dining atmosphere. But who is looking for atmosphere at a BBQ joint...right? The brisket is just right... moist & tender with just the right amount of smoke flavor. It's some of the best I've had east of the Mississippi. Most BBQ joints focus on the meat and serve average sides. However, as others have attested, the sides here are also fantastic. My favorites are the cheese grits, baked potato salad and greens. My kids also love their Mac & Cheese. Since, I can't eat cheese, I opted for the tomatoes and cucumbers tonight. I'm sure it is a seasonal side, but it was exactly what I wanted. Fresh local veggies tossed in a little vinegar. So good! If you want Brisket in Nashville, I recommend that you head straight for B&C!

We tried the pulled pork and the brisket. Wow! Awesome. The service was great, and the sides were great. I only have one complaint. I had the brisket with a Yazoo Dos Perros. They serve the beer in a plastic cup. Not good. I didn't take away from the rating cause we went for the food, not the beer, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Also, all the sides were great, and they'll give you sample of everything. Great service!

This is what you need to do. Go to Melrose BBQ and get past the fact that its in a Kroger strip mall. You'll be impressed. Trust me on this one. Order either the pulled pork or pulled chicken platter. For your sides, get the mac & cheese, beans, cheesy grits, or the cucumber tomato salad. You wont be disappointed. Their corn bread comes with the platters and you wont want to skip that little morsel. Get yourself a couple Yazoo brews. For sauces, its hard to choose. They're all so good. Sit yourself down. Its a nice clean little place. The service is always friendly and the portion sizes are good. Also, let me again encourage you to get the mac & cheese. Its the real deal. Real cheese with a little hint of jalepeno spice. Good stuff.

Very mediocre in all aspects. Dining area is a little rough with only a window unit for heat and cool. Pulled pork was ok. Fried okra was ok. Sauces were good but overall there is nothing special about this place that warrants a return visit.

This is a sweet little surprise of a joint which I found through a Groupon promotion. I'm admittedly not too adventurous when it comes to BBQ, so that means I go after what works: pulled pork sammitch and mac and cheese. But these two are both uber good here. The jumbo pork sandwich, with coleslaw and pickles, overwhelms the decently sized bun and becomes a delightful mess when covered with the "sweet heat" mild sauce. The mac and cheese is rich and thick, but not overcooked or chewy. And the fried pickles are a nice way to remember that being skinny is so overrated. $15 can easily get two people a great meal - so if you're looking for easy, delicious bbq, this is your spot!

Holy Mary Mother of BBQ. I am smitten... in love... heartthrobbing, knee shaking, have mercy on me, wholesome goodness. B&C BBQ is the bees-knees of BBQ places in Nashville. I cannot believe it took 600+ (or it seems like it) radio commercials on Lightning 100 to get me to try this joint - especially considering I live like maybe a mile (and that's a stretch) away. The service is both friendly and fast. The boys at B&C trained their people right, and I can see why their catering business blossomed into the restaurant business. The pulled pork and the pork ribs are both fantastic. If you are looking for a dry rub and smoky flavor without any sauce, then I recommend the ribs over the pulled pork. Both are still good, but the sauce makes the pulled pork award winning - whereas the ribs are award winning without the sauce and only better with the sauce if you like sauce. Speaking of sauces there are plenty for you to try: Alabama white sauce, a Carolina mustard sauce, a mild sweet sauce, a hot and sweet sauce, a hot sauce, and a creole (I forget what the boys at B&C call it) sauce. All of the sauces are delicious. Now let's talk grits. Their grits are freaking amazing. Sure, they serve garlic cheese grits everyday... but you need to try every single one of their grits. The grits available change daily (as does the rest of the menu). So, I recommend that you just go 7 days straight to make sure you try every grit at least once. Then you'll need to go like 7 factorial more days in a row to try every combination. Just carve out a couple of years of your life to eat at B&C each day. You won't be disappointed.

Whenever I am new to a BBQ place and they sell by the pound, I always order a few slices of the brisket to try and if I like it I order more, but I was disappointed. The brisket was pre sliced and it was mushy and overcooked, but the Mac n Cheese was really good. Homemade and tasty. We asked one of the manager's how long they cook their brisket, my husband is from Texas and particular about his meat. I showed her what we were given and I couldn't believe how quickly this was remedied. Another manager came out and offered to take care of our bill, which we declined, but that was really nice. Then, the first mgr, brought out another order of brisket, which looked like it had just been sliced. What a difference, juicy and tasty. They then offered a free dessert and sweet tea. Gotta tell you, this was so unexpected, but refreshing. This place really knows customer service and cares whether you leave liking their product. Because of this, Janie and Shane, managers on duty that day will get a good recommendation from us and we will try them again when we come to town! Awesome!

Went for the 3rd time today and first bad experience. (Unfortunately people are more apt to write a review after a bad experience.) BBQ was good, but the reason I'd gone back was for the Mac and Cheese side that was Excellent a week or so when I went. Today, got a combo AND an extra side of Mac-n-Cheese. It was inedible. Chloe, my dog, enjoyed it - but there was barely any cheese and was as bland as sand. If I hadn't gotten to go, would've returned it on the spot - but wasn't worth the effort to drive back after getting home with it. Overall - a great joint. The employee's are about the friendliest you'll come across, just today's experience was poor.

Can't believe I haven't reviewed B & C Melrose yet -- it's one of my favorite BBQ joints in town! What's to like? 1. Friendly and fast service 2. Really good pulled pork - juicy and tender, nice size portion. Not the smokiest flavor in the world BUT the sauces make up for that 3. A selection of tasty sauces. Hot and Sweet is a good standby and Mild is delectable too, but Zydeco will really put a spring in your step if you like it spicy and zingy. 4. The seating area used to be kinda rough and open to the elements. A few times I've thought of going to B & C but chickened out because I was worried about being too hot or too cold. Well, they've done a nice job enclosing the seating area so that it's climate controlled and comfortable year round. Plus it smells like cedar, which is really pleasant for an eating environment. 5. All the sides I've tried have been excellent. The beans and the baked potato salad are true stars. 6. The cornbread / corn muffin may be the best in town - light and airy, like a giant corn marshmallow. 7. Good and refreshing sweet tea. 8. According to Nashville Scene, B & C is supposed to have some great desserts, but we didn't have time to try them. Another reason to go back soon... 9. The value is really impressive. If you're looking for a light dinner, it's totally possible for a couple to have a satisfying meal by splitting a BBQ plate meal for ~$8. 10. They use their daily specials to give an interesting twist to the typical BBQ menu. For example, they don't just serve grits, they serve a different flavor of grits each day. And one day a week, they even have smoked salmon. Now that's something you don't see every day. Give it a try. Truly one of Nashville's semi-hidden gems.

I was visiting the area and looking for good BBQ. This place filled the bill. Garlic Grits everyday and special grits daily? What's not to love. I had the pulled pork, grits and mac'n'cheese. Not the healthiest lunch, but man was it good. They have a good selection of house sauces too, from sweet to very hot. If going by GPS know that it is up the hill next to the Kroger supermarket. I did not see any signs on the road.

A good BBQ joint has good meat and good sides: one or the other isn't enough. this place did well on both fronts. I had smoked sausage, beans, garlic cheese grits (bang-ing), a corn muffin, and fried pickles. All of their bbq sauces were tasty and better than you usually find in a restaurant and definitely better than any grocery store brand.. Fried pickles needed something extra flavor wise and were heavy on the breading and grease. I need to return to try the other meats. If other meats are good, 4 stars, very solid. If so-so, 3 stars. Give it a shot!

I was recently scolded for not having had barbecue (one of my all time favorite things) since moving to Nashville. I made a point to go and out find some great barbecue the very next day after the Commodores won their game (Go 'Dores!) I had done some reconnaissance at the tailgate and had heard that B&C was a must-try, so Anne Marie and I headed straight out. AM had a pulled pork sandwich with grits. They apparently have the best grits in Nashville. They have cheese & garlic grits everyday, and then a different specialty flavor each day. They were already sold out of their specialty for the day, which is always a good sign for the quality. I ordered a pulled pork plate, with baked beans and grits. It came with cornbread on the side. It was a ridiculous amount of food, and with a drink it was still under $10. The pulled pork was great - no fatty pieces, very tender, and I covered it with amazing sweet sauce. The only issue I had was their sauce was very chilled in comparison to the meat. They must have just refilled the container. I really liked the grits! I'm not usually a big grits fan, but these were delicate and lightly flavored, with a great consistency. I'd have them again. The same goes for the rest of the meal. The cornbread was delish, and the baked beans were just the right blend of sweet and spicy. I'll be trying out some of the other places Nashville has to offer, but I have a feeling I'll be coming back to B&C at some point. Long story short: Try it!

After reading so many glowing reviews of this place on Yelp and hearing the accolades from my fellow co workers, I decided to try them for lunch one day. I got the pulled pork plate with garlic cheese grits, slaw and potato salad to go. I loved the pork.... It was tender, lean and very moist. I paired it with the Alabama white sauce, which is always my first choice when it's available in a BBQ restaurant. The slaw was good, although it had too much vinegar for my taste. The grits were outstanding. Crusty and creamy at the same time. The potato salad was a letdown. I forgot to ask if there were boiled eggs in it, which I cannot stand, but that was my fault. The sauce in the salad was entirely too sweet. Even if it didn't have eggs I wouldn't have been able to eat it. The corn muffin was very good as well. The worst part about my visit were the two girls working the front counter. They were disinterested to the point of rudeness, coming off as if I was interrupting their day by my order. It was unsettling. I don't want it to prevent me from coming back, as I love their BBQ and the place is so close to my work. I am going back today in fact, and if I get the same service, it will be my last time.

This place is incredible. I have been to B & C Melrose BBQ a few times, and each time the food has been delicious. The first time I ordered the brisket plate with mac & cheese, grits with turkey gravy, with a peice of cornbread. The food was served hot, the proportion was large, and the staff was pleasant. For dessert I had carrot cake, which was also very delightful. The prices are very affordable for the amount of food you get. Parking is also available. I would HIGHLY recommend B & C BBQ for lunch and dinner.

I am here right now with my husband's family. His uncle, who is in his 40s and is here from Ireland, tried to order a Budweiser but left his ID at home. The guy wasn't allowed to serve him a beer without an ID so my father-in-law, who is in his 60s, purchased the beer for him. As we are dining, a young guy comes over and says he has to check his ID. We lied and told him it was my father-in-laws. The guy leaves and comes back a few mins later and says he has to take the beer and will not refund it because he spied the uncle taking a sip of it and has no identification to back it up. Is there a security camera in the dining room? Was his job to peer around the corner to catch a 40-year-old man drinking a Bud? So he takes the beer and dumps it. Remember, the uncle is in his 40s and clearly looks it. I understand there are laws, but really??? It seemed rather vindictive to follow up on the beer drinking after the beer has been served. Also, the general concensus is that the food is not very good despite the very odd interaction we just had regarding a beer served to an obviously 40-year-old man. So weird.

These guys catered an event fr me this past weekend. It was a casual event so we went with bbq and B&C did not disappoint. Food got there when it was supposed to with everything like it was ordered. No hiccups. The hosts of the event (I am the event coordinator) raved about the guy that made the delivery - how nice he was and great. Everyone asked who did the food and they were taking out their phones and putting it in their phones. We had the pulled pork and they sent a variety of sauces - Sweet Heat is awesome and all you need in my opinion well maybe mild for kids. Baked beans, potato salad and squash casserole which was by far the hit! Also had them provide blackberrry cobbler and banana pudding - both very good. I looked like a star and I didn't do anything.

I was surprisingly pleased! I got the pulled pork sandwich, slaw, and baked beans. The meat had a great flavor, was tender, and was not loaded with wads of fat. The slaw is a nice, tangy vinegar-y slaw but not swimming in a pool of liquid -- if you like sweet creamy slaw, look somewhere else. The baked beans are okay, not my favorite, but definitely not the worst! They were boiling hot and kinda runny (even after they cooled off) and had a strong onion flavor. I tried all 6 sauces --mild, hot, sweet hot, mustard, zydeco, and vinegar; all were good, and I love that they offer a true vinegar-based sauce! I only did takeout, so I can't say anything about the "dining experience", but it's barbecue, so I don't expect much. They also have beer!

Went back for lunch today. Disappointed to find the brisket dry and tough this time around. I hate inconsistent places, because whether it's good or bad, it still costs 9 bucks for a plate. And nothing worse than trying to convince friends to try a place and they put forth a sub-par effort. I tried the peach cobbler and I wasn't impressed. Soggy pastry on top and the peaches were straight from a Del Monte can. Also, it's really easy to find the sauces. They're right behind where you place your order. Sweet heat was pretty good.

  • Holly L.

Brisket plate rocks-peppery and delicious. Pulled pork over grits also amazing. Had it with jalapeno grits and loved it. Mac n cheese and squash casserole awesome. Good corn bread. Green beans good too but must like salt. If you like spicy, mix hot or zytengo sauce with sweet heat. SH is the best. Had the fried pickles too-came with a white Bbq sauce. They were good but could skip them for all the rest. Only negative was that the lady taking orders was not at all friendly but everyone else was cool and the food was good so whatever-maybe she was having a bad day. Also, if you're west of the Mississippi and haven't had Yuengling beer, try it wherever you are. It's fantastic.

We were in Nashville for roughly 36hrs for a conference and let me say I regret making this my last place, but was happy it was because it will be a place I will bring others, and will visit when I'm back in the area. I'm a BBQ Judge, and Award winning Competitive Q'er and let me say this place is a MUST GO. People were friendly, helpful, and willing to let you sample anything you wanted before purchasing. I had the Pork over Grits (the grits this day was Buffalo Chicken) was absolutely amazing. The grits were creamy, and had perfect balance of flavors with cheese, and the kick of buffalo chicken that wasn't over-bearing even for the sensitve palates. The pork was moist and flavorful needing NOTHING to enhance it's flavor. I also had the collard greens as sides that required only a dash of salt and adding the sweet corn muffin took me down home.... I also ordered a brisket sandwhich which the brisket was moist, the bark flavorful with a little sweet char punch. All of the sauces including the mustard...were fantastic. My only issues were I personally am impressed with BBQ joints that offer a sampler platter so that you get a full scope of what they do, this one does not. Lastly the Baked Potato salad, while it had egg in it (bonus) lacked comparable taste, and texture that paired with everything else. Other than that this would've been a 5 star-er for me.

I went here while on vacation in Nashville based off of Yelp's recommendations. We had a bit of trouble locating it, because it is actually off the street it's listed as, and next to the Kroger's. I had the pulled pork sandwich and a cucumber tomato salad. The cucumbers and tomatoes really weren't that wonderful; I would have had some fried okra if it had been listed on their board as a side! The sandwich was very good. I enjoyed the bread, and the pork was good, but not very tender, as some other reviews have stated. I tried 3 sauces with it: the mustard style, sweet-hot, and the hot. They were all very good, but the hot was less HOT than I'd expected. My friend had the beef brisket sandwich, and felt it was tender and flavorful, except for the end prices which were dry. She ordered a basket of fires, which took FOREVER to get to us, but were also very good. I would recommend it if you're looking for an inexpensive and satisfying meal.

B&C Melrose must have friends adding comments because this BBQ is terrible. First off the service is BAD. Second the food is not at all good. So I get the pulled pork. The pulled pork was very dry and tough hardly any smoke flavor. The buns were not toasted or warmed just pulled straight out of the bag. I asked if they could toast my bun they said NO. The bake beans were OK but the pulled pork was terrible.

Super smoky and delicious! Fast and painless service, beer on tap, and a cozy place to sit down and enjoy. Prices and portions are reasonable and the sides are exceptional. If I stop through Nashville in the future, I would not hesitate to stop.

Went here for dinner Friday night. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich combo with fries. I asked if my bun could be toasted. They said it would take 30 minutes to do it. Really? To toast one bun. The bun was hard and not easy to eat. I just took the meat off the bun. The pulled pork was dry and had lots of hard pieces in it. This was by far the worst pulled pork I have eaten. Don't waste your time eating here.

Take it from this Texan turned southern boy, they have it all! Great grits, REAL brisket, and cornbread to die for any day! Worth the drive from West Nashville to Melrose! The only setback is the less than HOWDY attitude of the staff on a couple of experiences. Short of that, they would get a 5 star recommendation.

I recently used B & C catering service for a party at my home. Totally impressed with food, attention to detail and service. It was the first time I have just handed over everything to someone else to handle and I could not have been more pleased. I would highly recommend B & C for any event!

I stumbled upon B&C as I was doing some grocery shopping at Kroger and it was quite a pleasant surprise. Here's the pro's 1. This place has GREAT sides. I had the garlic cheese grits which are expertly seasoned and baked like a polenta cake with a nice crust. I also had the coleslaw which was much tastier than other BBQ places around here. 2. It's incredibly cheap! A plate of pulled pork is $7 with two sides and cornbread! Here's the con's 1. I'm not a big fan of their sauces. The one I REALLY liked was the "hot BBQ sauce", which is fantastic and not really hot at all. The other sauces were pedestrian, but I did appreciate the variety (mustard, vinegar, sweet hot, mild, and ZYD$&%( - which just had tabasco heat) The BBQ here (and I've only had the pulled pork) was great. It's not heavily seasoned with a rub, but tastes great. The pork is incredibly moist and juicy and I got a good chunk of the outer char which was brilliantly crisp. You can sit outside on the patio and that has a nice ambiance. I can't wait to head over there on the weekend to try their ribs!

I am so glad that I live just around the corner from B&C because it is absolutely amazing! I think the value is excellent -- you get a lot of food for your money. I love the pulled pork and pulled chicken, but sometimes I just order a vegetable plate because their side dishes are that good! And it's like $4.25 -- can't beat the price! I suggest you go on Sunday when they serve pizza grits because they're AMAZING and my absolute favorite. I love the squash casserole and the spicy mac & cheese, too. You really can't go wrong at B&C!

Recently was a benefactor of some delicious B & C breakfast catering! Blueberry muffins, tomato-bacon, mushroom, and spinach frittata, biscuits, oj, coffee, and a large bowl of fruit arrived at my house bright and early one Saturday before some out of towners came to visit. Frittatas were fluffy and delicious and they were just great to work with!

We've visited B&C twice now & it's my new favorite BBQ place in Nashville. We ate in their outdoor seating area the first time and took out the second time. The covered outdoor seating area is great! As others have noted, there is no indoor seating. We tried the pulled pork and the pulled chicken. Both were tasty. The pulled chicken came with a delicious white BBQ sauce. Make sure If you do take out to grab sauce, we got home and realized we forgot the sauce, all of which I liked on our first visit. The sides are really tasty, far better than anywhere else in town. The corn pudding and baked beans were delicious. The only side I didn't like was something other reviewers loved - the grits. On both visits, the grits were dried out and had little flavor. I'm usually a huge fan of grits, so this was disappointing. For desserts, the chocolate cake was amazing!!! Overall, the price was great for the quality of the food. Highly recommend. Only taking one star off for the grits.

I've eaten at B&C twice. I'm a big fan of Texas BBQ brisket, so both times I ordered the brisket. Brisket #1 was well seasoned, salty and had a wonderful fresh garlic flavor. It was a clear variation on traditional brisket, and I went back for more the next week. I liked it. Brisket #2 was overly fatty and seemed under smoked and under seasoned. I was disappointed. I'll be back for brisket #3, hoping for that salty, garlicky brisket from my first trip. I agree with the other reviewers that B&Cs sides are the best I've had at a BBQ joint in Nashville. Delicious grits, great french fries and corn pudding. I'd love to try more. I also agree that the sauces leave something to be desired. I'm not exactly sure, but I think they are all too acidic. I'd rather use none that whats on offer. The seating is just OK. The space makes for a difficult seating situation, but I would consider leaving the door between the restaurant and the enclosed patio open to make it feel more connected. It felt too much like eating take-out at the restaurant. Overall, I'm glad to have a BBQ place on 8th, like the direction the Kroger shopping center is taking, and hope B&C is successful. And I want more of that good brisket.

This is going to be my new favorite BBQ place. The pulled pork is moist and tender and flavorful without tasting like the wood it was cooked over. The garlic cheese grits were amazing, just the right amount of garlic, sometimes garlic can be overwhelming. One happy surprise was the cornbread muffin, which was slightly sweet, light and tasted of fresh corn. There are 5 or 6 sauce choices, I tried three. The hot sauce is very good, the zydeco was so-so but being from West Tennessee I am partial to a vinegar based sauce so that gets my vote mixed with a little of the hot sauce and we had a winner. Next time I go back and that will be soon, the corn casserole and fried pickles are a must try. For less than $9 I got pulled pork, 2 sides, cornbread and a drink, you can't beat that for excellent vittles. Small dining area that appears that it could be opened in better weather for an al fresco meal. I would give this 4 1/2 stars if I could.

I lived in Alabama for 5 years and the state is supposedly known for its BBQ. I thought it would never get better than BBQ dives in places like Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. My perspective completely changed when I ate at B&C BBQ. It is by far the best in Nashville and now in my opinion, it is better than any BBQ restaurant in Alabama. I am not even going to describe the incredible BBQ options and sides. If you like BBQ you have to try it for yourself!

I was traveling the south for a few weeks and tried to find highly rated BBQ places along the way. This place was the best I experienced on the trip, with excellent side dishes (garlic cheese grits) and melt-in-your-mouth beef brisket. Their variety of BBQ sauce options was also excellent and I especially enjoyed the sweet sauce. $7 for meat + 2 sides and cornbread is pretty tough to beat for overall value in the BBQ arena...

I had watched and waited for this place to open and then it became the darling of some of the local food bloggers. I finally stopped and gave it a try. First bite was so good, I'll keep coming back! I have to love a place with pork and grits! The chopped pork was excellent - moist and with plenty of flavor from the dry rub. Extra kudos for having a vinager sauce (they also have a mustard based sauce, but I don't care for that style). They also rotate the days they have ribs, salmon and chicken. They also have brisket. The sides are awesome and home made. The Mac and cheese was great and the squash casserole had nice, big pieces of squash. I had a hard time deciding between the cheese grits (served daily) and the grit of the day. The nice lady behind the counter gave me a taste test of both - AWESOME. I bought the "show me your grits" t-shirt. Last, but not least, get yourself some of that chocolate cake with chocolate gravey. It will make a really bad day all better. As this place is on my way home from work, I will become a regular on those nights I'm too tired to cook or have to have some smoked pig to sooth my soul. Located in the same stip as the Melrose Kroger (off Franklin Road)

I really hate to give 1 star after just one visit. I'm sure I went to the same place that the others here have rated highly, but I have a very different opinion. I love pulled pork and ribs and really wanted to like this place. I prefer spareribs, but they do baby backs and I decided to try them. I have NEVER failed to eat all ribs on my plate...until today. They were just awful. The basting sauce was terrible. The meat was rubbery and tasted like it was cooked a week ago. Honestly the worst ribs I have ever had anywhere. Even Applebee's riblets are a whole class above these. Luckily I only got 1/4 rack. I also got a regular pork sandwich. It was at least edible, but that's about it. I've enjoyed microwaved bbq sandwiches in conveniences store more than I enjoyed this. I tried 3 sauces: mustard, mild, and hot. They were all horrible. Potato salad was not good either. It had whole dill pickle SLICES in it. Really? Really. The green beans were the only things I didn't have to force down. Had to sit outside with the humidity and flies. I wish I could say I was going to give them another chance, but I just don't think I want to put myself through it.

Had the Pork Plate, which was more then enough grub. I get so tired of some BBQ places that you don't taste any smoke in there meats. That's definitely not the case with B&C. The pork was flavorful, moist, and had a few specs of familiar "bark" that i look for in good Q. I had the cheese grits and the mac and cheese which i give two thumbs up. Next time i'll try some of the other sides since all of them looked good, but unfortunately my stomach could barely hold the meat and two + cornbread. Mos definitely come out if you need a Q fix!

BBQ Pulled Pork Plate: generous portion of pork, cheese/garlic grits, baked bean, corn muffin, and sweet tea. Incredible! I really miss the South!

  • matt c.

I only ever get a pork sandwich, and they are generous with the meat, and free coleslaw and pickles on it, which helps make up for the slightly high price. I think it tastes good and smokey. I also like to try the different sauces. The hot is fairly mild as far as they go. I like to combine that with some of the vinegar sauce. The pickle chips we tried once were pretty good, and beer-battered, not crumbly like Sportsman's Grille or Captain D's.

Extremely disappointed. Our family had the ribs and the pulled chicken. The ribs were too salty and too spicy to serve children. If you have young children I would highly recommend that you dine elsewhere as everything has some spice to it (even the Mac n cheese). The spice does not translate to flavorful, just over seasoned. The chicken was bland and tasted like leftovers. We had corn pudding, greens, fries and Mac and cheese for sides. The greens were bland, mac n cheese was okay but too spicy and the fries were cooked in old grease and dumped with salt. What should have been a good comfort food experience was distressing. Ignore the hype and go elsewhere for good BBQ. En route to Memphis for BBQ lunch, perhaps I'll have better luck.

Surprised by the negative reviews for this place. I go here frequently (usually for takeout) and am always satisfied. The meats and sides are great (love their smoked turkey plate and brisket is delicious; above average ribs too). I can't give this place 5 stars because I've had better BBQ. That said, it's an amazing value. Prices have gone up just a bit, but $20 bucks will still get you 2lbs of meat, some cornbread, and a side. Not many better deals in down.

Needs work. Based on 3 separate lunchtime visits. We each ordered something different to share and sample. The pulled pork and chicken are just okay. As is the brisket. The smoked salmon isn't. First, let me say that the salmon was moist. That's a good thing. But blah. And it wasn't smoked. Or maybe the foil packet in which it was wrapped was. (I'm guessing the foil packs were just thrown on the smoker, so what you have left is steamed salmon -- not a bad thing, but not what our mouths were watering for.) Salmon from the smoker has a rich, meaty texture and a taste of smoke. This didn't. The sides are okay, with the exception of the potato salad, the garlic and cheese grits, and the squash casserole -- all were stellar on each visit! (Wish they served the squash casserole every day.) Major problem with trash pickup. People have to bus their own tables, and the stations were full to overflowing -- every visit. Trash was falling out of the cans, and the top shelves were so full of trays and drink glasses, we felt we were dining next to a dump. Even though we could give this only 2 stars, we will be back with two caveats -- we will go early to avoid the garbage situation, and we will stick to the veggie plate.

My husband and I headed over here for some barbecue after church one Sunday for lunch. I'm not a barbecue expert by any means, but I enjoyed my meal. I loved that I could get a pulled pork sandwich, a side, and a drink and not leave overly stuffed. The grits of the day were buffalo chicken and were INSANELY good. Sweet tea was quite sweet, so I cut it with unsweetened tea. This will most likely become our go-to barbecue place. The hours are convenient as well. As a previous reviewer noted, there is minimal indoor seating, so either plan on sitting outside or get it to-go. For two people with drinks, lunch came to less than $15. That's a great deal!

The patio is good seating area with 6 southern style ceiling fans. Call ahead and ask if they have the smoked salmon which is my fav. Marvelous corn pudding, garlic grits and fruit cobbler are some of my craves, and I will drive far to B & C to gobble. The beef brisket is to drive for too! Paul or Ed would love to serve ya at their new Melrose BBQ joint, open 7 days

I just picked up some dinner for my husband and I at B&C Melrose BBQ. I ordered pulled pork, baby back ribs, mac & cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, and buns. We quickly found that the only spice that this place knows how to use is pepper. The pulled pork was, at some time, rubbed with black pepper. The ribs were rubbed with black pepper. The coleslaw contained black pepper. The problem with using this much black pepper is that your food ends up tasting like black pepper. The two pork products were expertly cooked so it was a shame that all one could taste was black pepper. The mac & cheese was good, but only if you like it really spicy. It was full of hot green peppers. The baked beans and buns were excellent. I want to go back to support a locally owned business, but someone in this place needs to please learn to diversify the spice blend used on the meat. I would suggest taste testing the rubs from places that have stood the test of time like Jim Neeley's Interstate BBQ, Corkeys, or Charles Vergo's Rendezvous.

Thanks Yelp! Just in town, never spent time in Nashville, so pulled up the app looking for recommendations. Being in the South, we had to try out some BBQ and found that we were close by. It had good reviews, so we had to try it out. We were not disappointed... I had awesome brisket and my wife had amazing pulled pork with all of the trimmings. The sauces were tasty! And they had buffalo chicken grits which were excellent, even for someone not used to eating them. Very glad we consulted Yelp and found this gem!!!

I really REALLY wanted to love this place -- the price is right, it's close to work, and has spacious seating. Unfortunately I could not get on board. The sides left something to desire and I didn't find the flavor of the ribs on level with other local meat-n-threes. With that said, the staff was super friendly, they had a good beer selection, and in a pinch I would eat here again.

Pretty awesome barbecue joint here! It was one of the first places we ate at when we moved to Tennessee, and we just recently ate here again after trying several others. It did not dissapoint where others have. I will confess here and now my love for brisket, I LOVE me some good brisket!!! I have had some of the tastiest brisket from a place called 4 Rivers in Florida, and have been mostly dissapointed in comparison by the ones here in Nashville so far. This is one of the exceptions to the above statement; but I did find it somewhat dry in comparison. It's still far above the rest here in Nashville other than Jack's. Jack's has some seriously good brisket as well. That said, the sides here are so amazing that it sets them even further apart than the rest of the Nashville barbecue we have tried. So far we have had the Green Beans twice, as they were soo amazing. We have also tried the Mac and Cheese, as well as the Garlic cheese grits! I'm not usually a grit person, but these are so, so, delicious that I find it hard to put into words. I really didn't think I would like them as much as the Mac I had there, because it was epic as well, however, gun to my head, I'd probably choose the grits again over the Mac and Cheese. This would be a 5 star review if I had never eaten 4 Rivers brisket before, and that shouldn't be held against this place, but it is what it is.

Ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, I love ribs. Super delicious ribs at B&C! This is definitely a sweet little BBQ joint in Nashville that I feel like flies under the radar. We tried pretty much everything on the menu and were quite satisfied. The brisket wasn't as melt-in-your-mouth I would've liked it (I am fresh off an Austin trip though...), but it was good. The baked beans and mac were pretty tasty too. We even ordered these deep fried meat eggroll things that were super rich but delightful. Prices were decent, seating was plenty, and service was quick. This is a place I'd definitely come back to the next time I stop by Nashville.

A friend and I had a "Two Men and a Baby" thing going on for lunch. I couldn't think of a better pick than B&C (Bacon & Caviar). Although they have neither bacon nor caviar on the menu, the food is still incredible. Wood-paneled walls and modern/rustic decor give B&C a rather inviting atmosphere. The dining area isn't the largest I've encountered, but I'm sure it serves its purpose just fine. They weren't very busy when we arrived at 11:00am, though that was precisely why we chose to go at opening time. Having the dining room mostly to ourselves was also perfect for those few high-pitched squeals from time to time. Sadly, there are no multi-meat combos on the B&C menu, although I did my best to create one of my own. I ordered a 1/4 Rack St. Louis Style Ribs Plate, as well as a half-pound of Brisket and a half-pound of Pulled Pork. My plate came with two sides, for which I selected their Mac N Cheese and the Grit of the Day, which happened to be Buffalo Chicken Grits. It was clearly more food than I (or anyone else for that matter) needed, but this way I'd have some barbecue leftovers to take to work on Monday. Win-win. As advertised, the Buffalo Chicken Grits had a distinct buffalo sauce flavor. They were decently spicy and really, really tasty. Far from basic grits, these had pulled chicken mixed right in. The gooey, melty Mac N Cheese was equally spectacular. I'm not sure what combination of cheeses were used, but they worked great together. Their choice of spices also gave this comfort dish an excellent zestiness. The brisket wasn't exactly chopped, but it had gotten broken up slightly in order to fit inside the cylindrical styrofoam to-go container. I was extremely pleased to find some glorious black bark on these slices. The bark was packed with seasoning and a smokiness that matched the red hue beneath. The fattier pieces were beyond compare and just melted in my mouth. Pulled pork is slowly growing on me, especially when I eat some as good as this. There was a great saltiness which made each bite a pleasure. I found plenty of smoke-kissed bits of meat scattered throughout and a decent smoky flavor. The pork was also amazingly tender and juicy, yet still had a substantive meaty texture. The big, meaty spare ribs were cooked perfectly. Each bite of the ribs was very tender and very juicy. There was a nice smoke level here as well, but not so much as to mask the natural pork flavors. A hefty dusting of black pepper gave the pork a great spiciness and a great taste. Thanks, B&C!

I would never have expected this place to be as good as it is. By looking at the location, in a strip mall right by Kroger, you have your doubts. I went in one day to get a take out order, and got the BBQ pork plate. It was amazing and very reasonably priced. The sides are all homemade and delicious too. The mac and cheese is my favorite. They have a wide variety of sauces that you can choose from to take with you in to go containers. Great place for bbq.

This is a casual dining BBQ place in a strip mall. There are no servers. You place your order, get your food, pay, then find a table in the adjacent dining room which has around 20 tables. They have a variety of BBQ plates, sandwiches, & sides. They also sell meat by the pound. I had the brisket plate with cole slaw and mac & cheese. It came with a corn muffin. All of it was very good. They have about 5 different BBQ sauces to choose from. I had the hot which I enjoyed. The prices are pretty reasonable. I would definitely go back and try some of the other items.

How is it that my favorite BBQ in Nashville comes from a strip mall? I'm not sure, and I don't really care either. Everything is always consistent - I have never had a bad experience with the food or service, which is great considering the amount of time I've been going there. Pulled chicken is better than pulled pork here, which could upset some BBQ connoisseurs. Always be sure to ask for the white sauce for the chicken, it's completely necessary. With that said, every sauce is great, and can satisfy each person's individual taste. The mustard sauce is more mustardy than I've ever had, which I actually really like. Sweet heat is not like honey BBQ, it just had a touch of sweetness. Hot is really well spiced, so it's a front of the mouth spice that is easily handled. Sides/cornbread are what make this place, though. The baked beans are seriously next level. Best I've had. Could eat a mountain of them. Grits are also really really dope. Cole slaw isn't really much to write home about, but definitely good. Just nothing special. Corn bread is so, so good. Dip it in your favorite sauce if you're brave. Everything is well priced, and great portions of good food. Love the place!

So Ignore the fact that it's in a shopping center with a kroger, this place is Delish! Set up like a deli/subway almost you tell them what meat and they go down the line with your sides. They even have a few beer selections. But the food is great I always get beef brisket and I was happy it wasn't riddled with a lot of fat, I've been to places where I've pretty much had a few bites and had to throw the rest away, I ate pretty much all of my meat I was so happy I forgot I had a fork...just used my fingers and I had gotten a little bit of each sauce to dip and try them all I was very pleased. Also a nice sitting room off to the side I enjoyed it I will be back!

This place is a gem. After Edley's pissed me off a few times, I've been looking elsewhere for bbq and especially for brisket. The brisket is fantastic here. There were maybe 2 bites of inedible fat, but the most of it was simply tender and delicious. The mac and cheese was great, no dry mac here! And the collards...oh man the collards were off the chain. Pulled pork- delish. Grits- solid. Lots of sides to choose from. Desserts looked amazing, but we opted for 2 oreo truffles. Hey for $1.50 you can get a a bite to satisfy your craving. Whoa- those were soooo good. What I really loved was all their sauces to choose from. I liked all the ones I tasted, especially the sweet heat. Yum!!! Get it to go, eat there- they even cater. LOVED our experience and reasonably priced. Will be back very soon!

I have only recently discovered this love for bbq and i think B&C started it all for me. I was nearby !00 oaks and decided to try something new. This pulled up on my monocle and i found myself standing in line within minutes. now there isn't much to say as far as service is concerned, the kids behind the counter honestly could care less about their job. i stood in line for a good five minutes before i was acknowledged. but the food more than made up for this unpleasantry. their mac n cheese is to die for. not only is it super cheesy without having that commercial-processed cheese taste but they use a different kind of pasta than macaroni and it all just works. the slaw was very sweet but provided the perfect balance for the meal. the brisket.....oh man. absolutely delicious. i like eating at the bar in front of the restaurant and see the traffic go by and watch the drunk people leaving the mexican restaurant next door.

So I have a theory. I think I've figured out why Nashville isn't known as a BBQ city. There are BBQ styles such as Kansas City, Austin, Memphis and Carolina but not Nashville. I've lived in Tennessee all my life and have found that Nashville has some really good Q. So I was mad that there is no Nashville BBQ. That's where my theory comes in. Nashville is a melting pot. The differing styles come here. I can name for you good places to get Memphis ribs (peg leg porkers), Texas style brisket (Judge Bean's) and a great Carolina style sauce (Jacks) but there is no Nashville style Q. So instead of being mad I've learned to sit back and enjoy the largess of my fair city. One of my favorites is B and C. That stands for Bacon and Caviar by the way. My wife and I have lunch at B & C Melrose about once every other month. They are always good and fast. I always get the same thing, Pork over grits with slaw and green beans and my wife gets a regular sandwich and a side. The Pulled pork is not overly smoked or over salty (two pet peeves.) but flavorful enough to stand on it's own without sauce. But they do have sauce in fact they have a nice selection of sauces. My favorite being the sweet heat. There are mild, hot, extra hot, sweet and mustard. I've tried most of them and they are good. Now about the grits. If you don't like grits and if it helps you, then call them polenta. Just not out loud to the staff, you might get asked to leave. They have cheddar grits daily then a "special" grits on other days. The Buffalo chicken (Tuesday and Saturday) is a wonder. I have dreams... Also good is the jalapeno (Friday), which I had at lunch today. One little complaint; the coleslaw which is usually very good kind of sucked today. Like they spilled vinegar in the sauce. Nashville is where the different styles can coexist peacefully. Like the United Nations but much tastier.

Everything I've had here has been incredible. The meats are tender, the sides are flavorful, and the pork egg rolls are legit. This is one of the best BBQ places I have ever been to.

The food was amazing!! The pulled pork was tender and moist and the ribs were juicy and seriously perfect. There were at least 4 bbq sauce choices and each were really good, especially the mild bbq and the sweet bbq sauce. The mac n cheese was super cheesy and I couldn't get enough of that. My brother really enjoyed the grits. I'm not a fan of grits but there was a sign on the wall that said their grits was voted the best in Nashville and they had a few different choices. I also really enjoyed their red velvet cake and their carrot cake is amazing!!! I wasn't a fan of the creole slaw and wish they just had regular coleslaw. This was too dry and pickle-y. Again, this is not my thing so I wouldn't know but my brother who is a fan said the corn bread was just standard. nothing special. I guess thats good? The last thing we had was fried pickles. They were alright, but I really do prefer the pickles to be thinly sliced and not as breaded, but still good. Overall, the food was just amazing. And to top it all off, it was actually cheap! We walked out unable to stop talking about how good it was. Two (small) issues with this place though is that the atmosphere is non existent. They really could do more renovations and make it nice. Maybe put some music on. I don't know... do something with the dining area. Add booths or something. They could stand for improving the interior. The people were super friendly though. The second thing was that it was confusing to find. Its directly next to a Kroger's but my gps kept directing me to the strip mall below that one. And it didn't help that the name is B&C Melrose BBQ or Bacon and Caviar Melrose. Its really confusing. And by looking at trends in the previous reviews, I would say that this place doesn't have a 5 out of 5 yet because in 2010-2012, they might have made mistakes in hiring the right staff because people have complained about how welcoming or friendly they were, but I didn't experience that today and also the inconsistency in how tasty the barbecue meats were. I wouldn't know since this is my first time but I hope its always this good! Overall, though, I still have to give it a 5/5 because the bbq ribs, mac and cheese and desserts were sooo delicious! There are a few things they could change like the 2 or 3 items on the menu that need tweaking or the dining area, but its nearly perfect. The food completely makes up for any shortcomings.

Solid BBQ/meat and 3. Loved the grits. Collards were solid. Pulled pork was good and I loved the options of sauce. I'm a mustard or vinegar based weirdo so I appreciated that those options were available. I'll be back!

Rolled up to Nashville on some "I'm hungry foe some gewd'ol BeBeQue" so we saddled up and rolled out to this place like Yeeaaah! Best BBQ in Nashville that's on my Pug!

This is really really good you need to try it. Their barbecued ribs are outstanding and their brisket is outstanding. If you're in the area make sure you stop!

My daughter and I wanted some real Southern BBQ, and we were not disappointed. PULLED PORK OVER GRITS SIDE OF WHITE BEANS COLLARD GREENS BEEF BRISKET JALAPEÑO GRITS MAC N CHEESE SHELLS Everything was amazing! Their macaroni and cheese is better than my home version, which is hard to beat...moist perfect amount of gooeyness.

My husband and I are on a quest to find the best BBQ in Nashville. We judge this based on the pulled pork & the ribs. B&C was our third stop on this venture, and we weren't overly impressed with those selections. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't the best. The pork was moist, but it lacked the deep, rich flavor that we look for. The ribs were sauced, a bit too much almost, and extremely greasy and fat - the fattiest & greasiest ribs I've ever eaten, ever. That being said, the rib's sauce had plenty of peppercorn on them, which is one of my favorite flavorings. The mild & sweet tangy sauces were underwhelming. I give them props for offering a mustard sauce, which isn't as common in Nashville, but it needed a bit more vinegar. The hot sauce was by far our favorite. We chose the black eye pea salad & cajun cole slaw for our sides. Not much excitement to report there, but we've yet to find a bbq place that offers "slap your momma" good sides. From what I saw, their grits are where it's at, but I don't generally consume corn so I didn't give those a go. The service was good. Nothing to report there. The dining area was clean. Overall, this is a decent bbq place. Maybe their specialty lies in other meats? It's not a bad place, but not worth the trip from the suburbs.

April 21st, I had to work a full day (12 hr shift) so I knew I was in NO SHAPE to cook dinner..so I stopped at B&C Melrose BBQ...for the sheer fact that the train was blocking my daily route home and I needed to detour over into the Berry Hills area to make my way home. I thought, hummm...BBQ sounds good and I haven't tried them yet...so winner winner Chicken dinner..or in this case Rib dinner... I entered into the small location at the end of the strip mall at the Kroger's there. It is sort of hidden so if you are NOT looking for it, you will miss it. I went in and was immediately greeted by two friendly gents at the front counter. I told them my first visit and I needed a minute..and they both chimed in and said..welcome and you can't go wrong with any of your choices... I ordered the half slab st louis style ribs with the two side choices of bacon/cheddar grits (the grits of the day) and mac n cheese..and then I ordered brisket dinner with two sides of baked beans and squash casserole. I then grabbed a piece of pecan pie for Tony..he loves Pecan pie. I took several sides of the various sauces to try out. I took our order to go..it was $25..plus tip... When I got it home..I grabbed a couple of plates out of the cupboard and began hashing out our portions..we both were trying a little bit of everything..our plates were heaping full... OKAY..the bacon cheddar grits...I am not a GRITS PERSON..but it was good. I mean if I like Grits then these are great grits but ummm..I am not a grits person..so nah...not again for me..but that is ME....a grits lover would love them...the mac n cheese,,GREAT..I wish I had more of these to scarf down...The squash casserole was good but a little too sweet for my liking...but it was good and cheesy...and the baked beans...OMG...awesome..I would eat a gallon container of these baked beans EASY.. The ribs were great. I really liked my sauces choices..I would eat the ribs again..but the winner winner winner on the plate was the BRISKET..OMG..so moist and tender..You could easily feed this to a baby...it literally melted in my mouth and when MEAT MELTS..that is tender and juice..I could eat this Brisket daily...gain a million pounds...but oh it would be almost worth it... so if you go...get the Brisket, with baked beans and mac n cheese and you will be very happy...but watch out, if I am near by I might have to sneak a bite..

This place is great! We dropped by just out of convenience because we planned on going to Athens Family Restaurant but they were closed for a Christmas party. We then stopped by a pizza place in the same shopping center as this. Their flashing sign said open, the door said closed, but it was unlocked. No one to be found. So, third time is the charm right? You're damn right about that. We came in and I asked the guy what was good here. He initially gave me the typical "everything", but then told me that he likes the brisket the most. So I got a brisket plate with the garlic cheese grits and mac & cheese with cornbread. My girlfriend asked about the pulled pork or pulled chicken. The employee said he likes the pork on the sandwich, but the chicken on the plate. So she got a pulled chicken plate with baked beans and mac & cheese and cornbread. The cornbread is probably the best I've ever had and the grits are amazing. The brisket was juicy, tender, and fell apart when id go to get it with my fork so I had to eat it with my hands. I'm not complaining. It went really well with their mustard bbq sauce, the sauce itself was mild, and tangy but really good. But, the sweet heat bbq sauce was great on both the chicken and the brisket. I'm really glad we stumbled upon this place. Great atmosphere, food, employees, everything. I've never been happier with a bbq place.

Of all the BBQ we had on our trip to Nashville this was the best. When we first arrived it didn't seem like much from the parking lot but the food was great. The service was good and even offered to let you sample before you decided on what you wanted. I had a very yummy pulled pork sandwich with the garlic cheese grits. My husband loved the smoked wings he ordered as well. An added bonus was that they served beer and had some local stuff on tap.

This place was pretty good. Granted, I'm really spoiled when it comes to good BBQ due to a few years working in Memphis, but as far as chain joints go, B & C is definitely better than a lot of them. I do have to hand it to them as far as their sauces go. The Hot, Mustard, and Zydeco sauces are some of the best things I've ever placed on pulled pig. I'd definitely recommend grabbing a cup of each and experimenting with your meat of choice. Their fried pickles are definitely noteworthy. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find a place that does a decent fried pickle. The ones from B & C have just the right amount of bread and just the right amount of crunch, and dipping them in the mustard sauce is awesome. They definitely get bonus points for having Yazoo on tap.

Very disappointing. With all the great reviews my husband and I decided to check this place out. Everything is served from warming trays. We tried the pulled pork sandwich and brisket sandwich and both came out cold. The sweet tea wasn't any good either. My husband liked their mac and cheese.

Really great BBQ that I introduced the locals that I work with. They all loved it. Really great side dishes too!! The brisket was tender and moist. Pulled pork was not fatty and very tasty!!! I loved the variety of their home made sauces!

Great hidden gem of a BBQ joint! I've never actually eaten in - only gotten it to go, so I can't speak about the seating arrangements and feel of the restaurant. They give a generous serving of meat, and the pulled pork is great. I always get a pulled pork platter with green beans and mac & cheese, which also comes with corn bread. Not the best BBQ I've ever had, but certainly good. It also helps that it's half a mile from my house.

I found this place on yelp and we decided to try it for a late lunch yesterday. Loved it! You order at the counter. They had great pulled chicken! Our friends had pulled pork and said it was good too. Several different bbq sauces to choose from including a sweet and spicy one. Also they had buffalo chicken grits as a side. Delish! Definitely worth stopping.

We ordered two party packs for my husbands birthday dinner at home. There were 24 adults coming and I had no clue how much food to to order. The food was ordered ahead and they were organized when I arrived to pick it up. They helped me load it in my car. Everyone complimented us on the food and we had some left over for lunch the next day. Sides were awesome, meat was delicious and the dessert was devoured. It was a huge hit. I highly recommend it!

I came just before close so shame on me but I was served grizzle instead of brisket. I've had mostly positive experiences here but as we all know it only takes 1 uh oh to f up a lifetime of atta boys. Thus, I like this place but think the employees may be less than fully competent. Open your to go box and look at your food before paying.

Brisket sandwich had too much fat/gristle for my taste. No problems with fresh brewed iced tea and very good fries. I might go in again and try something different. There are lots of sides and a few other things to choose from. I had to wait for someone to go in the back room and cook my fries (?). That took a while, but the rest of my food just had to sit there in the meantime.

We went to B&C Melrose BBQ this rainy evening, in search of a good hearty meal to counteract the dreadful weather. What we got was definitely what I would call a mixed bag. We walked in to a very clean establishment. It was brightly lit, with a fairly standard BBQ joint decor (wood and corrugated metal everywhere). The staff was friendly enough. Overall, we were disappointed by the food. The pulled pork was inconsistent, to say the least. There were both crunchy parts and greasy parts to it. The crunchy parts, unfortunately, weren't bark - they seemed more to be the result of the meat having been a bit on the old side. The brisket was extremely fatty. This isn't necessarily a problem for everyone (although I tend to like my brisket with much less fat, personally), but when your portion is weighed out with the fat on, and that fat ends up being about a third of the weight of your portion, it can be a little bit annoying. The corn muffins were dry and room temperature. The mac and cheese while ok, was completely unmemorable. Dessert might have been the most disappointing part of the meal. While we were standing at the counter, I was intrigued by the rich brown color of the pecan pie slices that were on display, thinking that they might have been chocolate pecan pie. I couldn't have been more wrong. It was just a standard pecan pie, and the dark color was just a result of it having been burned - so burned, in fact, that my fork would not pierce the top of the pie. As far as the carrot cake was concerned, it was a bit greasier than carrot cake should be, and the icing tasted like it was straight from a can - Betty Crocker vanilla, all the way. You may wonder (if you're still reading, that is) why I gave B&C Melrose two stars instead of one. There were three saving graces. 1) I mentioned this before - the restaurant was very clean, which is always a plus. 2) The green beans. Most of the time, with southern-style green beans, all you can taste is salt and/or pork. The star of the show in this side dish was actually the green beans! 3) The grits. My boyfriend got them because of the sign that said that they had been judged Best in Nashville or something, and we weren't disappointed there, either. They had wonderful flavor and texture as well. Either one of us would try any of their other varieties of grits (although the pizza flavor sounds a bit strange). Final score - 2 of 5 stars. It's a BBQ restaurant - the sides shouldn't outshine the meat!

I love pork, but I never get it here. The pulled chicken is too amazing!! Beans and Potato Salad and then I split an order of grits with my husband. We love this place. LOVE IT. I always leave full and happy. The staff is sometimes a bit rude especially the really skinny guy with brown hair and skinny jeans. And sometimes I feel weird eating there because I am clearly not a melrose hipster but if we go when it is quiet, it is awesome. Oh, and the super awesome guy in the back that brings the wings out to the table, HE IS AWESOME and friendly and the saving grace for us on the last visit. So opposite of Mr. Skinny Jeans.

Two star food in a four star place makes a three star review. The pulled pork, I admit, is very well cooked - juicy, tender, falling apart. And the sauces are imaginative and tasty. That is about it for me. We tried the place twice and sampled green beans, the "famous" garlic cheese grits and mac and cheese. None were anything special, or rose above the sides at any other BBQ places, even the chains. I don't get the hoopla over their grits. A casserole with grits is one of the easiest things you can knock out, and these were dry and not very flavorful considering they had garlic and cheese. I think it is because they use bland, American cheese - that is certainly what was in the mac and cheese. Cheddar, anyone? I tried a menu item categorized as new, smoked turkey. The turkey was ok and the serving was more than generous, but the only flavor I could taste was from the seasoned salt rub on the skin. Bites of the turkey without the salt had no flavor that comes from a smoker. Cornbread here is sweet, more of a corn muffin. Now, the good stuff. The place itself has a nice neighborhood bar kind of vibe, and they serve Yazoo draft, Shiner Bock, Corona, Bud, Bud Light, Coors, Coors Light, Miller Light and Yuengling. The dining room is smallish, but comfortable, light, and has large TVs on three walls, a perfect place for people in the nearby condos and apartments to catch a game on Sunday afternoon or meet up for a few brews.

B&C is my favorite BBQ in Nashville. The meats are juicy and I love that they offer a sweet sauce. But what makes this place a standout are the fabulous sides. The beans, the macaroni, the cornbread, all fantastic. Y'all should consider scouting Donelson for a third location. We could use some decent BBQ over here.

Had to write a review because beyond having an incredible pork and grits plate, the staff is so sweet! Came in last night around 8:55, not knowing they close at 9 - asked if it would be too much trouble to grab food that late, and the two guys working were so friendly and never once hesitated to make us feel totally welcome. No frustration, no attitude, just made us feel right at home and not imposing, although we totally were. Great staff, great food!

Off the main road - took a few min to find it next to Kroger's. $7.50 gets you a combination plate - main meat entree plus 2 sides. Portions are big enough to fill you up so make sure to come hungry. Had the brisket, potato salad, and corn. Sauces - 5 different sauces to add to your meat. The habanero/home made sauce just didn't hit the right spot for me. The sweet heat was GOOD.

I'm not sure at what point "pulling" pork would require a knife sharp enough and yielded with enough force to cut bone. For what I know of pulling pork, it usually is done by hand, but sometimes a fork is used when doing large amounts. I mention this because each time I have had pulled pork from B&C, both at this location and the one in the Downtown Farmers Market, my wife has had the rather unpleasant experience of finding a bone chip in her pulled pork sandwich. In addition to the large, fatty chunks left behind, the bone chips have led me to believe that while they might not be cutting corners in the smoking process, they DO seem to be when it comes to the "pulling" of the meat. I really want to like B&C. The sides are great, and my pulled pork plate was devoid of bone chips and quite delicious. Ordering the pork this way ensures that you get to see every bite before you put it in your mouth, meaning you can find the bone chips with your eyes instead of your teeth. So, in short, it's good barbeque. I've had better, but mainly because of what seems to be issues concerning paying attention to small details; they've got the big things down here. Order the pulled pork plate and look out for bone chips.

This was totally satisfying. I'm a Texas girl so the more sauce, the merrier! I love the 'sweet heat' sauce poured over the pulled pork. I had the pulled pork over garlic & cheese grits & my husband had a plate of pulled pork, brisket, & the St. Louis style ribs they had today. He rated the ribs #1, pulled pork #2, & the brisket #3. We also had the sides of slaw, corn muffin, & baked beans. They all were very good. The sauces were icing on the cake! This will be a go to place for BBQ for us from now on.

Three stars, one of those is for the grits which were amazing and I don't like grits! The baked beans were nice too, with just a little heat to them. The baked potato salad was also good. But... The barbecue (we tried the brisket and the pulled pork) was uninspired at best. It wasn't bad, per se. Just not anything better than "meh." And none of the sauces were terribly good to my taste as well. If you're looking for good side dishes, this is your place and in fact it might be worth the drive just for the grits. They're that good. If you're looking for really good barbecue... perhaps somewhere else.

This BBQ joint has it all. The meat is full or flavor and the sides are fantastic. Now I am a brisket junkie and they have the best. It's tender, fatty and well seasoned. I've tried most of their sides. The grits are yummy and change daily so try them all. The squash casserole is better than my own Mother's(sorry). Fried Okra you can't go wrong. Sometimes I go in just for a plate of sides! You get the idea folks. I'm a fan, you should try them. Like now.

B&C is amazing and very affordable- they catered my wedding last year & everyone kept telling me for months and months after how delicious the food was. So good, another family member of mine is having them cater her wedding at Lilac Farms this weekend! Awesome food & staff!

These guys know their BBQ, especially by Nashville's standards but even by anyone's. A big part of me wants to bump it up to a 5...the food is undoubtedly at the 5 level. The meat is spectacular, the variety of sauces is just unbearably world-rocking, and the sides take it a serious notch up from your usual hole-in-the-wall BBQ selections. I mean, the usual stuff is there too, but two items in particular - the garlic cheese grits and the chipotle corn salad - take it to another level. I've never liked corn pudding, but theirs is tolerable (the person I was with, who actually likes corn pudding, thought it was otherworldly). Ambiance is pretty much non-existent, but there are some TVs, so who needs ambiance? And they're selling this stuff to me for under $10/plate? This is a very, very dangerous find...

I never had a bad experience here compared to other reviews I've read. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. The food is good and I admit its not the best BBQ joint in Nashville but it's good BBQ. The sauces are really good and also the meats without the sauce is good. I always taste the meat without sauce before start. That's how you can usually taste good BBQ. Everything was hot and fresh when I got it an everything seemed reasonably priced. Sounds perverted but I like their meat.

I'm surprised it's taken me so long to find this little gem. I believe the gentleman behind the counter said they've been here maybe 4 years now? Maybe longer. Definitely some of the best brisket in the area. My side items, baked beans and potato salad, were excellent. This may very well be my favorite BBQ joint in Middle Tennessee.

Really guys!!! Does anyone know BBQ? About the only thing that was good was the sides and the sauce. Brisket, two thick pieces of dried out brisket that been sitting in a cover pan for who know how long. Guys, Brisket is to be kept in a slab until it is ready to be serve. It should be cut on the spot. There was no smoke ring to this brown piece of meat and i could not even tell it was smoked or baked. Pulled Chicken, Dry and not Hickory smoke flavor at all. Another bbq bites the dust. BTW, i Lived in Texas for 12 years, so I want Brisket. This did not cut it. First place i town go to TEX's and then Martins and Pegleg Poker.

great food at a great price. i was working for a nonprofit and needed a donation to feed 25 people last spring. this place agreed to help and they hooked us up. we had so much food and it was all high quality. i decided because of their genourosity to start eating here more often as i live down the street. eating in house the food is even better. i really like the little room the created on the side and the unlimited access to the sauces. the staff is always friendly, food is good, doesn't break our wallets. what more can yo ask for.

How can you not love a place who lists themselves as bacon and caviar? I'm not even sure if that's what the B&C stands for but that's their website domain, anyway. Hidden away off Franklin Road in the same shopping center as the Kroger, I never even knew this location existed. It's not easily visible from the street. B&C is really known for their grits and in that regard they are outstanding. Every day comes with a daily special grit. Random grits I've encountered are buffalo chicken grits, jalapeno cheese grits, and pulled pork grits. I've loved every one of them. The pulled pork is good but not my favorite. To be fair, I prefer an overwhelming hickory flavor and you won't find that here. If you are searching for pulled meat though I highly recommend the pulled chicken. Their "secret rub" is really heavy on the pepper side and also seems to have some sort of cornbread or breading in the mix. Whatever the rub may be, it's very tasty and my favorite pulled chicken by far. Also if you are into that sort of thing, the pulled chicken comes with a white sauce. I'm assuming it's probably a take on the famous 'bama white sauce but I didn't try it... I prefer the dry rub flavor as it is. Prices are very reasonable and there are lots of side options, including vegetables which can sometimes be hard to come by at bbq joints. For about $8 you can get a pile of meat, two sides, and a corn muffin. It's a great bargain. Yazoo on tap at the Melrose location is an added bonus.

I needed a hot BBQ infusion. B&C is known for their many flavors of grits and they did not disappoint. Even the grits menu is daunting, with so many choices, but we settled on buffalo grits and garlic cheese. We ordered pulled pork, brisket, potato salad, green beans, and macaroni and cheese. And of course sweet tea! I was impressed with their offering of six different bbq sauces! The meat was a little on the dry side, so the sauce definitely came in handy. Overall, it was a great lunch.

I prefer this place to Jack's BBQ - it's a smaller place where you order at the counter and then eat in a side room with a tv playing on the wall. I got the brisket (as usual) and my wife got the pulled pork plate. I had wanted to get the ribs but they had just run out. Both meats were really tender and the sauces were delicious. They had MILD, HOT, and SWEET HEAT. I combined hot and sweet heat and was not disappointed. The mac'n'cheese was my favorite part of the meal. I also got the buffalo chicken grits. They were good but I'm starting to think I'm a bandwagon grits fan. Next time I go, I will probably try a different side but no fault to how they were cooked. If you go (and you should), whatever meat/sauce combo you get will be fantastic. But get the mac'n'cheese. I visit Nashville, not live there, but this has been the best bbq I've had there so far.

As a Texas gal, I am very picky when it comes to BBQ. To this day, Rudy's BBQ (founded near Austin, TX) is still my favorite, but I have to say B&C satisfies in so many other ways! I've tried almost every meat option here, and my favorite is the pulled pork. It's so tender and flavorful. I usually get pork over grits. The grits are the best part of this entire place! They are seriously DA-BOM. Each day, they offer different flavored grits, and I haven't had a bad one yet. The mac & cheese is also LEGIT. Each side and even the little corn muffin they give you are all excellent. The corn muffin is moist and a little sweet. For all the food you get, I feel like the price is reasonable. Most plates are under $8. There are different bbq sauce options that were all very flavorful. The place isn't too fancy, but what authentic bbq place is? As long as it's clean, I have no complaints. I'd write more, but I think I've drooled enough in one entry. Bacon & Caviar, here I come!

Incredibly good smoked pulled pork. It's so good that you don't need sauce. Wow! So good. The sauces are good...especially the mild. The Garlic Cheese Grits were amazing and will be served at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb in glory! Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. They are good. The white beans were too watery but have potential. The Cole Slaw was a bit different than a southern sweet slaw but very good and with a strong touch of vinegar. Good stuff. I can't wait to work through their sides...because SIDES matter. Can't wait to get some more of that pig! Great stuff.

Probably my favorite BBQ in Nashville so far. Like the Notorious BIG song, the pork was JUICY!!!! I also really enjoyed the egg roll. It was pulled pork but cooked asian style with the proper dipping sauce. Nice touch B&C! The sides were the usual. The baked beans had a good flavor. The place is clean and the beers are cheap. They also have a TV to watch sports. I would def go back, not a question in my mind about it, I liked B&C.

There aren't enough positive comments here. I'm a local; been going here for years. This is the best BBQ in Nashville, and probably the best brisket I've ever had. Most BBQ places don't put any effort into their sides, either, but B&C's grits, greens, mac & cheese are the best as well. I'm not sure what kind of "experience" people are looking for at a BBQ restaurant. The place is clean, the staff is always pretty friendly to me and my family, prices are reasonable. I don't require much though. I'm just there for the food. I'm like Newman scurrying away from the Soup Nazi, styrofoam bowl in tow.

Food is finger licking good, all 5 fingers, and *that* means something. I came in here because I was hungry, happened to be in Nashville, and the reviews this place got were so positive I could not miss what all the hype was about. Yes, it's located in a strip mall. No, that does not legitimize the quality of the food and customer service in said establishment. (I've read a few reviews that suggested that the location made it "worse" in a way)..? I walked in and was greeted by a friendly employee. I ordered a half rack of ribs that came with two side: I chose the macaroni and cheese and baked beans. The meal also came with a small piece of cornbread. The ribs were dry. There was a selection of 4-5 various bbq sauces that a customer could choose, which I thought was a nice variotous touch. I chose the sweet and spicy sauce, and the combination of this sauce and the ribs were like yin and yang: very tasty. The macaroni and cheese was rich and hearty. The baked beans were stupid good. Like what the fuck kind of food crack are you serving me here? The serving of cornbread was moist and sweet which was refreshing since in 98% of other places, their cornbread is lackluster and dry. If i lived here i'd go here more often for sure.

The Better Half's Mother has a July 4th Birthday, so we were going to get BBQ from Whitts for the shindig, only to discover that the Whitts in Nashville are all closed on Sunday. This lead to a frantic Yelp Search for BBQ. This was extremely fortunate because it put us in touch with Bacon & Caviar BBQ. The staff was extremely friendly to us and our questions, and even provided us with Samples of the various kinds of BBQ they sell (We settled on the Pork, but they also had Beef and Chicken) as well as some Grits. I would certainly return in the future for of the BBQ offerings.

Man, this place is just awesome. They do everything really well. The pulled meat is perfect. Their variety of sauces to go with is just as good. My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich with their sweet n hot sauce. YOU MUST GET THE GRITS. They have a grits of the day (buffalo, taco, etc), but my favorite is their garlic cheese grits. Quite possibly the best grits I have ever had. The place is clean, the people are very cool, and they have great hours. MUST TRY!

Love the BBQ and cornbread. Grits were good, although a little different, they have all kinds of grits. Not too expensive and the service is nice.

Let me preface that maybe they were having a bad day. They ran out of ribs, the pulled pork was dry but okay , the green beans and potatoes were boiled to the point that they lacked taste and it took forever to get the chicken wings. I wasn't a fan of the the BBQ sauce, but it was okay because i used it to drench the pulled pork. The chicken wings were hard, and I felt like they were a day old... You know when they're kind of sinewy and rubbery. It was kind if like that. The Mac n cheese, fried pickles and grits were good.
