Best Mexican food in the area! The staff is wonderful and price isn't expensive either.

La Siesta...Spanish for "The Nap"...that left me a little hesitant to partake in whatever kinds of goods or wares that this establishment would be offering...but...a friend liked it, so we went. More specifically, a friend from Canada liked it, so 15 of us went...because you know...Canada or Mexico...the food is from across A border...in this case, just the wrong one. There is a porch, which is where we ate. It was a nice weekday night, the crowd wasn't too bad and they didn't have trouble accomodating a large group. Plus, the porch gave us the perfect view of the entire Murfreesboro PD partaking in a police chase right in front of us! The food was pretty good...standard Mexican fare, but good. In my experience, there are 4 kinds of Mexican food - good Mexican food, "OH MY GOD I COULD DIE NOW THIS IS SO GOOD" Mexican food, "Did they forget the flavor part of the recipe?" Mexican food, and the kind of Mexican food they have in Japan which is honestly not that different from most other Mexican food except the Japanese people tend to think that the tortillas are gloves and use them to pick the meat up...but I digress. La Siesta falls into the "good" category. Decent service, good food, good price. Just say a word that sounds remotely Spanish and I'm sure you'll get a nice dish with some form of tortilla, meat and cheese.

I would give it two stars, but La Siesta redeemed itself with a 2.99 beer so big that I could make a 2-mile swim in. The food was bland. I'm not a huge fan of spices, so if I say it's bland, it's pretty dang bland. The queso left me wanting more, a lot more. If you want to get a cheap beer (during happy hour, mind you) and some chips for an affordable price, then I would suggest La Siesta. If you're looking for something more substantive....go to Chuy's!

I have a soft spot for La Siesta. It's not the food, because it's pretty average Mexican sloppy food, but they have good cheap margaritas, and I usually go with people from school/work to wind down. The service is good and they have a great covered patio. It's nice to sit out here and drink margaritas in a rainstorm with good friends. Its location as one of the few restaurants within walking distance of MTSU is part of its appeal, and has definitely been the sole reason I've eaten here, but the food is a little better than expected and the spinach enchiladas are actually pretty good.

Not a huge fan. I got the steak nachos. My steak tasted like it was marinated in a Marsala sauce. Kinda off putting for Mexican food. The cheese dip was good. Over all I would go back there are definitely better restaurants in the Murfreesboro.

Typical mediocre Americanized Mexican food...but it's great for MTSU students being as it's close by for breaks and the lunch menu is darn cheap.

If you're in the mood for a fully-loaded margarita, this is your place. If you're searching for tasty, authentic Mexican cuisine... Not so much. The place has a no-frills sort of atmosphere to it that really shows in the complete thoughtlessness to meal presentation. I couldn't say the food tastes awful, because it doesn't, but I do find it to be a case study in the phenomenon where bland LOOKING food also TASTES sort of bland. The handful of times I've visited, I've left with a "meh" feeling toward La Siesta.

Being from Texas, I've had my fair share of amazing, authentic and delicious Tex Mex and Mexican food. To be very honest, this is not on that level. Don't get me wrong - if you're in the mood for Mexican food this will definitely hit the spot. Is it super authentic? No. Are you gonna be dying to go back asap? Maybe not. But I'm never disappointed with the food or the service. And for the price, I think its quite good. I really like the margaritas, blended or on the rocks. They are sweet, but still strong. Order a pitcher. You won't regret it. The one thing that kind of irks me about this place is that a lot of the meals that I'd like to order don't come with rice and beans. A good amount do, but a substantial amount don't. I've decided against ordering certain things many times due to the fact that you'd have to order rice and beans separately if you wanted them. Since the prices are so low, I think it would be in their best interest to maybe raise the prices on those items by a couple bucks and include the rice and beans?? Just a thought.

Right next campus so it's very convenient. In my opinion, the one on Broad is better but pretty much the same in many aspects. I went for lunch a couple of afternoons ago and the wait was a bit longer than most lunch services. Food was fine, the chicken quesadilla tasted different than the other locations I've been to before. (like it had been cook with peppers and onions) Service was pretty good, no complaints there. I will continue to go there for the sake of its proximity to MTSU.

I had a couple hours to kill between classes and I didn't want fast food so I decided to go to La Siesta because it was so close to school. By close I mean almost right across the street from it. I walked in and the hostess was a little weird but very nice. She talked to me the entire way to the table. I sat down and was quickly greeted. I ordered a frozen margarita and a water. The margarita came out within a minute or two of me ordering it. It wasn't the best margarita I have had. It wasn't the worst either. I will say I would never get it frozen again. There was something weird about how it made my tongue feel like it was too frozen. I don't know how to describe it properly but I pretty much had to wait until it melted some to really drink it. I looked over the menu and decided to get the lunch order of the chicken fajitas. They came out in a reasonable amount of time. It came with all the traditional fajita fixings...grilled onions and peppers, rice, beans, sour cream, pico, and guacamole. I do wish I had more sour cream. There was only a tiny bit. I, also, like my guacamole to have chunks of avocado and this did not. The worst part of my fajitas? The tortillas. They were hard and broke apart easily which usually means they aren't fresh. The server was very attentive. She came back numerous times to check on me. Once I received the bill I went up to pay with the same lady that was the hostess. She asked if I was a student and I said yes. She asked if I had my student ID and when I showed it to her she gave me a discount on my food. I don't know how much of a discount. I don't think it was a ton but hey for a college student any little bit helps! I thought that was great of her to even ask. I would have never known that I could get a discount. I would go back for several reasons: discount for being a student, proximity to the school, service and friendliness of staff. Other than I can't say the food was wonderful but definitely made for a good lunch break.

Just finishing up a horrible dinner experience here. Terrible service and very average food. Don't waste your time!

Awesome place. Relaxed atmosphere. We always get the fajitas and they're awesome, we usually ask for them to take it easy on onions and peppers because they like to load up on them. The trivia night on Friday nights are great!

We have enjoyed la siesta on Greenland for over 15 years and always had great service and food. We usually ordered #36 or the pork tacos. Probably a hundred times in the past 15 years...I even ordered number 36 for parties over years and many friends became regulars. Until now. NO more. Obviously they have changed hands. The food and the service tonight were awful. And it was Kind of dirty too. I am very sad to say we won't be back ...

As you can probably deduce from my body of reviews, I eat a lot of Tex-Mex cuisine. It doesn't take a lot to impress me when it comes to a Mexican restaurant--they just need a handful of authentic, inexpensive dishes, quick service and tasty complimentary chips and salsa. This place meets all the requirements, so it gets my seal of approval. La Siesta is on Greenland very close to campus, and a lot of MTSU students pop in after class for some tasty, hangover-repelling cuisine. There's a lovely little patio, where I sit whenever I dine there, and the servers are always friendly and quick. La Siesta has some very cheap lunch specials, and their margaritas are good but not exceptional. There are some televisions inside, which are typically tuned to sports, and the place is good for large groups. If you're in Murfreesboro and need a quick dinner or lunch, this place should definitely be on your list.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
