Let me make myself clear: Donut Country is a blessing from the very gods of sugar themselves. Is your sweet teeth hollerin' for attention in the AM? Do you want to sweeten up (literally) your coworkers on a gloomy day? Are you feeling restless at night and want a snack, or a place to hang out with your mates? Check Donut Country for all of the above! When I first discovered Donut Country, I was absolutely amazed that there was a mom-and-pop donut shack that operated late into the night. I've definitely spent some great evenings there, catching up with friends, having a cup of coffee, or just greedily awaiting the fresh donuts that were coming out of the bakery in the back. Let's talk shop: DC makes some DAMN fine donuts. You can get anything from the standard glazed, to apple fritters the size of your head, to Dutch crumbs full of crumbly goodness. Then there's your typical jelly-fulls, cinnamon rolls (also ginormous), and even special treats on holidays like iced donuts with hearts and sprinkles on Valentine's Day. If you like donuts, there's something here for you, mark my words. It's a homey establishment for sure, featuring some rather entertaining news clippings hung proudly on the wall of the owner's old escapades in the Coast Guard, along with one of those singing trout plaques. It certainly looks like it hasn't changed since the '70s, and that's okay! Just keep on doing what you do best, DC, and that is donuts. As a side note, if you ever considering opening up a chain abroad, considering the hubbub everyone in Scotland had over the opening of their first Krispy Kreme, well. I think DC should know where their best options lie. ;)

I can't figure out how this place has so many 5 star reviews. I really wanted to try a 5 star review donut place. That sure would have been nice. Instead what I got was a few things I really don't want at a donut place. The selection was terrible. We had plain glazed, plain with chocolate glaze, chocolate cake glazed, Boston creme (which they mistakenly called Bavarian creme). The only other option (which we didn't try) was the powdered jelly donut. That's it! Five donut options at a donut place. I really expected more. The service was poor. The girl gave us a friendly greeting when we walked in the door, but was noticeably frustrated with us because we did not know automatically what we wanted to order as soon as we walked up to the counter. I did not even have time to look over the menu board for pricing. As mentioned above, when I asked her "Is that a Boston creme?" she responded by telling me "No, that's a Bavarian creme. Boston creme has mayonnaise in it." which just blew my mind, since it is not true. And no, the "Bavarian creme" donuts she sold me were absolutely not Bavarian at all. The food? It turns out the chocolate cake glazed donuts that I mentioned above were at least 48 hours old. There's no way they were fresher than that. They were not sold at a discount, nor was I informed of their age when I purchased them. This is a total blowout. The other donuts were good. Nothing amazing, just good donuts. But not good enough to make up for the rest of this crap. EDIT: I've since been contacted by an employee and told that my review is "inaccurate" (in other words, I'm being called a liar). How awesome is that? Apparently, the employees know more about the experience I had there than I do!

This place makes great tasting donuts period. Look, this is no dainty pastry to be fussed over. These are just great tasting sugary mounds of fried dough. I'm a fan of the filled variety and variety is what they have. I'm especially a fan of the different jelly/berry fillings they offer. These are solid and they stick with you. I could say more but there's no need to wx poetic. Just go get yourself a couple....or a dozen and have at it.

The donuts here are spectacular! If they are not on the top 10 list of best donut shops in US, they should be. Always fresh. The cinnamon rolls are as big as your head. I grew up in Centerville, OH home of Bill's Donuts. Bill's has been featured in many major/national magazines and newspapers as one of the best donut shops in the national. Donuts Country rivals Bill's! I can't even eat other donuts. Once you have these, you won't either.

They're ok. I'll grab one if someone else picks them up, but their location is such a pain to get in and out of that I don't bother going anymore. Apple fritters are good if you can get a fresh one, otherwise I suppose they would make good clay pgeons. Avoid the lemon filled donuts. They taste like they are full of lemon pledge. To top it off, you never know what kind of mood the staff will be in. Sometimes pleasant and at others downright nasty and rude.

I absolutely LOVE this place. I tried this donut place back in July of 2014 with a friend because he lives down the street and loves the donuts here too. So I have been here a few times and I have loved everything I've gotten. Always friendly service too. Plus their pimento cheese sandwich is awesome. My favorite donut is the chocolate cream filled and the huge cinnamon roll. Yum!

So, while I've never purchased donuts from this location I have been the happy recipient of coworkers that are willing to share!!! I am a Dunkin Donut fan growing up in the MidWest, we didn't have Krispy Kreme when I was younger. I love a good cake donut even though most like the full on sugary mess. Each time I've had Donut Country, I've been pleasantly pleased. I will bring my family before church one Sunday to share in the yummy goodness!!!!

  • Adam R.

Yes, please! If you are like me, I can't STAND Krispy Kreme. Donut country is the opposite of KK's donuts. There's no 10lbs of sugary crap on the outside of barely any dough. This place has got the ratios on point. Go and try one of everything. You may be fat, but you'll be happy you did!

Donut Country is our home away from home on Saturday mornings. My favorite is the "double dipped", a glazed donut with a rich chocolate top. The staff are friendly, and business is brisk, but not hectic. I love seeing little kids in their sports uniforms or leathery-faced gentlemen who gather at the bar for coffee. Locally owned, and with the best donuts in Murfreesboro, Donut Country is in a class of its own.

If shopping with local purveyors matters to you, Donut Country is the way to go when your sweet tooth needs to sink into something. Any hour of the day or night, they have a good variety of doughnuts available, along with doughnut holes and crullers. The decor hasn't been updated in a decade or so, but no worries. We're talking doughnut shop here, and I really would rather the owners didn't spend their money on mood lighting and stone accent walls and whatnot. Just give me fresh doughnuts. The place is clean and tidy, and that's all you need. I'd like to highlight the chocolate icing on the doughnuts here. It really is fresh and light tasting. The doughnuts themselves, though, are a little bit heavier than I like. My personal preference is for the slightly fluffier ones you get across town at Donut Palace. If you like a cake-style doughnut, you'll be very happy here. When I go to Donut Country, I go for the apple fritter, which also seems to be available at all times. This thing is big, probably 6 or 7 inches across so it will feed two. If you're out on a date night, and you're just not ready to go home yet, drop by Donut Country and pick up an apple fritter and feed it to each other by tearing off one piece at a time. Trust me on this. I can't say I've sampled their coffee (I know, I know, a major oversight on my part because that's the perfect accompaniment for what's on offer here), so I leave that up to your judgment. I also haven't tried their sandwiches, but I have heard recommendations from friends.

Tried both this shop as well as Donut Palace. I was very disappointed with Donut Country. I got one of everything and not one stood out. It tasted as if they were a day old at least which tends to be on harder side. They're filled doughnuts were half filled only on edges. Maybe I have to try when fresh to get a good review.

Delicious! I have no other words. Just delicious! If you are craving donuts - this is the place to go! Try the chocolate double dipped.

Okay, I have a (major) weakness for a good cake doughnut. So does the boyfriend. This donut shop is STELLAR. Not much for looks, but that doesn't really matter, does it? Their blueberry and red velvet cake doughnuts are my favorite- soooooo moist with the slightest crispiness on the very very bottoms...authentic as f***. :) I would pass on their bavarian cream and raspberry-filled...- I just didn't find them as special. Another major plus is they're open 24 hours, and they play great music that you can hear wafting from the back. At night you can watch them make the doughnuts which is cool...it looks like the employees have a genuinely good time there. Word of warning: Sometimes they're just sold out, which is a bummer. So maybe call ahead? And if you're wanting more than a dozen definitely let them know ahead of time. They're a small shop and have very small batches to keep it fresh.

The chocolate cake donuts are to die for! It's actually open 24hrs monday-friday and closed between 2-9pm saturday and Sunday. If you get there around midnight the Dutch crumb donuts will be fresh. Which is absolutely worth it because they taste like heaven. If you aren't sure what you'll like you can get an assortment of donut holes and try a variety without over doing it. (Always throw some chocolate in there)

I'll admit, I'm a big fan of Krispy Kreme's gooeyness, but since there are no KK's here in Murfreesboro, Donut Country is a close 2nd! Normally, I hate cake donuts. But Donut Country has the BEST blueberry cake donut I have ever had, and it's so delicious dipped in coffee!

  • Christina L.

The door said this place opens at midnight, so why, at 1:30am have they not yet finished making glazed donuts. Regular donuts aren't the first thing you start on? I'd tell you how they taste but the "ready in 5" was actually 15+ so I haven't gotten to eat them, yet. The strawberry cake donut was pretty good, though.

  • Ashley T.

i was raised on krispy kreme and while they are still my favorite, donut country is a close second! i'm an original glazed donut girl and theirs are really yummy. they are slightly more dense but not as dense as a cake donut. i've tried the glazed lemon filled and it was also good. for lunch i got the tuna salad on croissant. the croissant was delicious but their tuna salad was too sweet and had too much mayo for me. very nice staff. i will be back when i get in another donut kick.

I shouldn't even have to make a review about this. If you live in the boro, you should have been there already. And if you haven't... well then shame on you! GO! Get'm fresh starting at midnight for the fresh glazed donuts and through 3-4am for the boston and bavarian cream. Being partial to bavarian, it is sooo worth the wait. And seriously. They're 89 cents for fresh glazed. You can't beat that price.

This place makes donuts that TASTE like what I always dreamed a doughnut should based on the smell. They are freaking amazing. I had them a few weeks ago for the first time and raved about them so much that my better half drove us from Antioch to Murfreesboro for a treat last night. Their fritter is just ridiculously good. And these little glazed doughnut holes? Un-freaking-real. I am typically a healthy/adventurous eater, but I cannot rave about these PERFECT, simple, and amazing treats. You owe it to yourself to try them.

This little place is one of those restaurants you crave! Excellent donuts and the guy who is always there late at night (behind the counter) is helpful and kind. They have coffee, milk, juices, etc to go along with your pickings! Oh, and cinnamon rolls the size of your head.

I came around 10 this morning, which was a rookie move. They were sold out of most everything but I still got a couple doughnuts to take home. They were so good! The customer service was great!! I will definitely return again....much earlier next time!!

I had my first experience today around 3:30 at Donut Country and cannot believe how in the world this place was voted 2014 Ruthie business. This was the worst, rude, unprofessional customer service experience I can ever remember. I stopped by to get my grandson some donuts. The selection was minimal but my grandson was able to pick out a few donuts. This review is not based on the donuts as I did not eat any of them but about the most rude unprofessional employee I have ever encountered. As I walked through the door a middle-aged blonde lady very rudely said, "what do you need"? I noticed she had been talking to a lady setting at the counter and it was apparent that my grandson and I had disturbed their conversation. Since the selection was minimal and apparently there since this morning my grandson took a few minutes to make his pick. It again was apparent we were disturbing whatever was going on between the two ladies and when I said please give us the glazed donut with chocolate before she could even put it into the bag, she said every rudely what else do you want. I asked her for a few minutes but her posture was very apparent she did not want our business. All I can say is no donut or food is that good to take the abuse, rudeness and unprofessional customer service I experienced today.

Not bad but have had better without much looking. I guess might be the best one in the Murfreesboro area.

My favorite are the glazed donuts which are so soft it feels like your biting into pillows! Haha Melts in your mouth!!!! A great excuse to be late for work in the AM!

Best donuts in. . . well just the best donuts. I brought a dozen to the office in Nashville a couple weeks ago, and everyone agree they were the BEST. All the out-of-towners were disappointed they will have to go all the way into to the 'Boro to get Donut Country.
