Pig-N-Whistle Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

After living overseas for three years, my husband and I were very excited to be relocating to TN because we knew good southern food was in our future. Pig-n-Whistle did not fail to provide such yumminess. I had the catfish and fried shrimp which was so good, next time I will be getting just the catfish on it's own. My husband said his ribs, which he got muddy, were awesome enough that he wished he got a full rack rather than a half. Their fried pickles were spot on!! The only reason I don't give them a full 5 stars is because of their minimal kids menu. I have two picky eaters but can usually get by with some mac n' cheese or a grilled cheese. Unfortunately, they only had catfish, chicken fingers, a hot dog or grilled chicken as the kids meal choices. Had they had something a little more common, it would have made my night a whole lot easier!! The whole place gives you that downhome feel and the staff is incredibly nice. We will definitely go back at some point, even if it means feeding my picky eaters beforehand!!

Great small BBQ joint here in Millington. As you walk in you are greeted by southern hospitality in an old southern building. The smoke pit smell welcomes you as you enter the restaurant. The pork BBQ sandwich was very large and their sides were filling. The potato salad is a smoked potato salad. The BBQ sauce has a tangy taste with a hint of spice that gives it a bold flavor.

This place was highly recommended by my mom and in some way they delivered. The ribs are awesome. The meat was tender and off the bone and the flavor was there. On top of that, it wasn't expensive either. Their dinner plate is from 8.50 - 10.00 and the portion is huge. Also, the folks are really nice! Okay so now you're wondering why only 3 stars? The ribs are great but some of the plates (beef brisket, chicken) needs flavor and pouring BBQ sauce over it won't mask the unseasoned meat. Its not disappointing but there's definite room for improvement. I gave three stars because of the excellent flavor of the ribs and friendly service. Needs improvement on BBQ plates and fresher veggie sides. Highly recommends: - Dry Ribs with BBQ sauce on the side - BBQ nachos - BBQ cheese fries - Fried pickles

Awkward music selection on the radio.. Power ballads don't really fit this smokey woodsy feel of an establishment. Loved their bbq sandwich.. Small menu, nice folks, I'd say it's a winner since I've gone about 3 times this month.

What a poor excuse for BBQ. Seriously people, you need to kick it up a couple of notches. The building is cute and it is a fun ride but stay away from this one.

Good ribs we had the muddy ones and they had a good taste also ordered some pulled pork and it was decent... Their BBQ sauce was to sweet for my liking but not bad... Not sure if I would go back...

Ate on a cold, drizzling, Sat. afternoon. .The restaurant was empty with the exception of a couple of others. It's located in a slightly remote location off hwy 51, just north of Millington, TN. In an older renovated grocery store from the 1800's. Kids eat free on Sat. Service was from a new employee that seemed to be learning. That was OK because, overall very courteous and attentive. Had to ask for extra napkins, tea, and for my sausage that had been forgotten. Food came out quickly and was hot. I had the sampler. It's pork shoulder, ribs and sausage. Each finished muddy, with their rub and sweet BBQ sauce. Not the best I've had in BBQ, but good. The sides were okra and coleslaw. Both were done by hand. Okra was just-right. The slaw was good as well. Would certainly go again.

One star for the cold beer and one star for the prompt service. Total BBQ Buzzkill when the food was served. Brisket was a gummy mushy pile of fatty over sauced meat. White beans recipe is terrible and unedible. Garlic bread is a toasted buttered burger bun. Hush puppies were tiny and prefrozen. As part of "Memphis BBQ" lure, we were extremely disappointed.

The pulled chicken dinner was great. I love their bbq sauce. The restaurant was pretty cool inside.

In all fairness, the management of Pig and Whistle take these reviews serious and have contacted me regarding my experience. Although I am not changing my opinion of the food I had, it is only fair to give props for their interest in their customer satisfaction. Well done on the customer service. I will try the food again, perhaps at a different location. It is a possibility that they have become a victim of their own success. Multiple locations are difficult to monitor and ensure perfect quality every time.

Great food, great atmosphere and low prices. Love their BBQ sauce! I even order it for myself while I am stationed in San Diego.

Pig platter was fantastic. As was the rack of ribs. Good hush puppies and baked potato salad.

Had the lunch special half slab served muddy. Great smoke flavor and rib texture. I also recommend the loaded baked potato salad. They also serve decent onion rings.

Very disappointing. We went here upon recommendations from a few friends. I don't know if our friends haven't ever tried any other BBQ or not, but this was not good. They should rename the place "Pig and Grisle." BBQ was very fatty and dry! Don't waste your money

Okay BBQ sandwiches, but nothing special. Inside decor is akin to a sports bar.

Recommended BBQ place, had the rib special. It was great, staff was freindly, building was awesome and historical.

I really wanted this to be better. Went for lunch back in May with a group, most of us had the pulled pork sandwich. I could have just been an off day, but we were all pretty disappointed. The BBQ was ok, however let me be clear, I am grading on a Memphis BBQ scale, which is tougher.

An hour and a half for a pulled pork sandwich at lunch. The bun was very hard, the pork was very dry, the fries were very cold, and by the time I got my food.......I was very pissed. There were 30 of us that went in there, we told the place a week ahead of time that we were coming and how many of us would be there. No seasoning on anything that I tasted. I tried a friend's rib, it tasted like nothing.......just meat. I thought this was Memphis, the home of great BBQ.......my dyin ass. I havent had good BBQ from a store since weve been here. We do competitions, and theres some great food out there (Ill invite you all to our next one, you can come by and have some of ours), but from what I see most of these stores are operating off of a name that they can no longer do justice. And whatever Pig and Whistle USED to be was lost in the crappy service, bad food, and overall bad experience that left me feeling like I was, once again, robbed of my lunch money.

If you have the time, it's good food. However, the service can be really slow even at lunch time on a weekday. The first time I went, we were in an out of there within our lunch hour. The second time, it took us almost two hours. I usually get the half rack of ribs. I thought it was good. The meat just fell right off the bones and the bbq sauce was nicely sweet and tangy at the same time. I would go back on days when I have time to spare just in case.

We were the only customers, first clue!! Food just okay, ribs just okay, cole slaw terrible, it was very dry, no flavor. Best thing was the tiny (and I mean tiny) pieces of garlic bread and the beer. We had high hopes for this place but very disappointed.

I had the dinner deal, which had a choice of meat, three sides and a drink for $7.99. I had sweet tea, brisket, cole slaw, fried pickles and hush puppies. The bads: The sweet tea wasn't really sweet enough, the cole slaw was not good, the fried pickles were ok except that they were way too salty. The hushpuppies had corn in them, which was different but they were good. The brisket was great! That is the only thing keeping it at 4 stars, that and the price, and hospitality. The waiter was good, but the poor guy didn't do well with the payment part. He charged one of my dinner-mates for the other one's meal and vice-versa. So he over charged one and under charged the other. But he was pretty apologetic. Anyways, the bbq sauce on the brisket was great, and the brisket was tender and juicy like it should be.

My companion and I split the fried green tomatoes as a starter, followed by the slab for two, muddy, which includes 4 sides. We had fried okra, Cole slaw, white beans and potato salad. The tomatoes, ribs and potato salad were great. The other sides were so so. Overall, we were very pleased. Service was friendly and efficient.

I was very disappointed. For being out in the middle of nowhere, and having such a nice looking outside, the service was inattentive, and unfriendly when we placed our order. I had the most expensive lunch item (big pig plate), thinking it would be a decent portion, but unfortunately, I had just a smattering of pork on a bun with some mediocre beans and okra on the side. Better off going to the high school cafeteria for good food. Yuck!

While being stuck in TN for a week a few of us came down and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the beef brisket plate which came with 2 sides. I selected the fried okra and green beans which were nice. Tried the appetizers of friend pickles , fried green tomatoes, and some hush puppies which were fabulous by the way. The only thing as mentioned that took away was there wasn't much seasoning to the brisket which was alright because I added BBQ sauce which was good. Overall this place was good too. Our waitress Kim was awesome also. Thanks and if I'm back in Millington, TN we shall stop back by!

2 stars because I'm feeling generous. The poor reviews you see here and elsewhere on line are correct. The Navy folks must be keeping this place in business. I don't know why, with the other BBQ offerings EVEN CLOSER to the base, Pig N Whistle is ALWAYS their destination, and they always seem to talk it up. Granted, we had a large party. But, we arrived at a normal time of day and week when a restaurant should be expecting patrons: Saturday around 6:30 PM. And, it was not busy at all! Great, right? Well, we were seated right away. But then, it took at least 5 minutes for a server to come to our tables to start taking drink orders and pass out menus. It took at least 10 minutes after that for the drinks to arrive. Then, they did not take our appetizer orders until at least 5 minutes after that. And they took appetizer orders separate from entrée orders (weird). Mind you, the rest of the restaurant was simply not very busy. I never saw servers frantically running around tending to patrons' needs; there simply weren't very many patron. At some point in this long process, a manager/cook/owner(???) told us that they didn't have any ribs (one of their signature offerings) ready, and they wouldn't have any ribs ready for 20 or 30 minutes. About 20-30 minutes later, the same man announced that they wouldn't have the ribs ready for about 45 minutes. Did they forget that they sold ribs? Did they not expect people to dine at their establishment on Saturday night? Eventually, they served us COMPLIMENTARY ribs (thank you very much; you saved yourselves from a 1-star review) as we were having our entrées. Surely this was a classy gesture. But the ribs were dry and rather flavorless, though the meat did come right off the bone. And I am not a food snob by any means! So, maybe I didn't order enough and maybe they have all kinds of good food on the menu. But if I ever go back, I'll have to wait an hour during a non-busy time to find out. There are LOTS of other barbecue joints in the area. If you just have to go to the place that the herd goes to (or at least seems to talk about), then try PNW (if you have a few hours to spare). Otherwise, I'm sure you can get plenty of good BBQ nearby. I don't understand the big draw. (Oh, and watch out for the standing water [leaking out of the bar, perhaps?] on the tile floor, right by the bar and an entryway, where people normally might, you know, walk or stand.)

Stopped in here with a big group. The restaurant stayed open for us, reserved ribs for us. It was excellent. I had the muddy ribs on a Wednesday night, they have a rib special that night, well worth it. The waitress was excellent, she kept topping off the beverages. Wish we had a place that served ribs this good in San Diego.

Came here with a large group of coworkers for a buffet style function. We had coleslaw, beans, pulled pork sandwiches and wings. The restaurant is clean and has a decent bar. They serve Pepsi products which seems very common in this area. The meal was fairly average overall and the barbecue sauce seemed fairly generic as were the beans and cole slaw (I think the beans were Bush's to be honest). The pulled pork was good, but nothing special. Overall, very average, not bad, but not anything special. I would go here again, but not as a first choice.

Good ribs, both sauce & dry rub spices are tasty. Fairly tender for pork ribs, would like to have some smoke flavor though. Slaw & okra were ok, bread was like a roll with some biscuit texture, pretty light, also good. Building is nicely rustic, exposed brick walls, high ceilings, get points for their decor. They are closed on Mondays.

It's a cozy place to eat. In fact it's remodeled from a an old general store. For the price you get good bar b q. Though if your looking for something special meal, it's not here but this is a great place to enjoy a nice lunch or dinner that's easy going. They have their own sauce, to me it tastes like kc masterpiece on the thinner side. You try it out for yourself!

It's a shame I only discovered them right before I moved, The ribs were great, I had mine dry and my husband had his muddy. They got that part down! Service was fast, friendly and attentive. So enough about what I liked, here's what knocked them back a few stars: Sides! The buttered bread, I don't know how it was possible to have a bread form yet only taste like butter, a bit too saturated for my liking. The green beans were totally from a can, and not even seasoned well in an attempt to hide it.

Excellent barbecue. I had the ribs, "muddy" style, which is basted in sauce while cooking and then the rub is sprinkled on after. I'm not usually a huge pork rib fan, just because they tend to be a bit too rich, even greasy, for me, but these were cooked just perfectly, moist without being greasy and falling off the bone. The sauce was very good, though it didn't stand out in my mind all that much--good, but not "Oh, dear Lord, I must go back" good. I had the fried okra and a salad for sides; the okra was great, the salad was just your basic bag salad.

I thought I'd try the Memphis Style BBQ while in town and decided to give this place a shot. My dinner consisted of pulled pork, kielbasa, ribs and two sides. The BBQ sauce itself was on the sweet side and very good. I liked the pulled pork and kielbasa very much. However, I was disappointed with the main feature of the meal, the ribs. I tried both the "wet" and the "dry" rub versions. I definitely preferred the ribs with the sauce. The ribs themselves were extremely dry and the sauce counteracted that to a small degree. The ribs with the dry rub was akin to eating jerky. Finally the BBQ beans and coleslaw were middle of the road and uninspiring. The beans tasted like they were straight out of the can.

Have the Idaho pig or whatever it's called. Good stuff. We took family from out of town to several bbq places and all they talk about is wanting another one of these things. Friendly staff.

We've gone here several times and love it! The food is excellent. Service is good. And place is clean. Even when it has been busy we been able to get in and out within an hour. Kids like the bbq and hot dogs. My husband loves, loves, loves the muddy ribs. We stopped by cause we pass it frequently to and from friends homes. I read some mixed reviews so wasn't sure about it. But now I am so glad we did try it. Fantastic food! One small problem was ribs do run out on occasion. It happened this last Sunday. Everything was still great but no ribs where ready for us to eat unless we were willing to wait. We ate other good food and plan on going back for ribs soon.
