This is the place for breakfast in Memphis. Amazing pancakes, flawless biscuits, great cinnamon rolls and perfectly crisp bacon. This place is cash only and expect a line; however, the staff is friendly and as efficient as the food is delicious. This is one of the only places that I don't mind waiting in line. The food is that good! The lunch menu is good too, but this is a must for breakfast!

My friend and I road tripped to Memphis over winter break and wanted to eat a good southern breakfast before heading back up to St. Louis. This place was a little out of the way but well worth it. The line was out the door... Literally. But the service was pretty fast and we were served before we knew it. Everything on the menu looked tempting but I ordered the country fried steak. It came with the best biscuits I've ever had and two eggs that I ordered sunny side up. AND a cup of grits. It was honestly the best breakfast I've had in so long. I still think about it... To sum it all up, the place is kind of a diner/hole in the wall feel but it's clean and everyone from the staff to the people dining there was SO nice and the food was FANTASTIC. (:

REALLY great food - the grits are amazing! We arrived on a Sunday morning and feared the crowds. The way they have things set up, though, people moved through at a steady pace, so there were always tables available. Definitely on my all time best breakfasts favorites list. Try The Scrambler. It will keep you fed a full day.

If you ever need a massive replenishment of salt come here. Or if you would like to raise your blood pressure this would also be a good choice. I am very surprised at the reviews and four stars. I am not opposed to a dive but only when the food is good, this food matched the overall shabbiness of the restaurant. However, the biscuits were really good.

Great breakfast! Tried the sampler, got a bunch of pork, biscuits and eggs with grits to boot. Place was busy, 7:30 am on Saturday, but the line moves quick and the food comes even quicker. Cheap too!! No credit cards though, straight cash.

Nothing beats an egg sandwich at Bryant after a hard Saturday morning yard sailing. Love it!

Restaurants that have legendary status as one of the best in town for whatever they do, often fall short. This certainly applies to BBQ in Memphis. However, Bryant's really lives up to the billing. In fact, it's the best Southern breakfast I've ever had. From the eggs to the biscuits to the salty country ham, it's all over-the-top, but done really well. The place is like a cafeteria, but the food is great and I'd recommend it to anyone in town who wants some southern breakfast flavor.

Yum! Great food bring cash! Expect to wait but its good. My friend who comes from Nashville always makes me come here. She loves it and she knows home cooking! It's pretty inexpensive for the amount of food you get.

Pros: Good food and a lot of it. The line moves quickly. Cons: The line. It is crowded and noisy. The sausage is way to salty.

Not much to say that hasn't been mentioned elsewhere. Bryant's has solid, good-eatin' breakfast fare in an old-school atmosphere. Kids had pancakes with a side of eggs and bacon. No complaints from them. I had a "special scrambler" which is comprised of eggs, meat of choice, veggies, and hash browns mixed together. Basically, it's a tasty gut-bomb. As many others have mentioned, the biscuits on the side were very good. Scanning the menu(s) posted on all the walls etc., there were twists on the standard breakfast, such as the Nutella pancakes or the cinnamon roll french toast. There are a few things to keep in mind. It's not a sit-down diner in the traditional sense. You have to wait in line, order your food, take a number, find a table and wait for someone to bring your food. We hit the line at the right time and didn't have to wait too long. By the time we left, the line snaked all the way through the place. If you show up with kids that are really hungry, you might end up with some grumpy kids by the time you get to the register and order. Also, it's cash only. All-in-all, a fun place to visit if you want a traditional breakfast.

They give you plenty for your money. However, I did find a hair on my biscuit and a hair on my plate. It really made me lose my appetite.

Awesome..we drive from st louis for the food. Dont let the looks from the outside fool you. The building may be old, but the line outside the door should tell you something. No matter how long the wait......You will be rewarded by the best breakfast food you have ever tasted. This is a must visit in Memphis!!!!!!

Five stars for a not centrally located, where you order at a counter at a dive that only excepts cash? Yes. If you enjoy artery clogging, calorie packed southern food, there is simply no place better. On a recent trip to the home of the blues I was asked to meet a business associate here for breakfast. It took me 25 minutes to make it here from downtown Memphis. Upon arrival the first thing I noticed was the cast of characters in line. Of the 30 plus when I arrived there were others like me in suits, police officers, construction workers, and college girls. Quite an assortment. After waiting in line perhaps ten minutes with my client, I was up. The menu was overwhelming. Biscuits ten different ways, eggs, grits, soups, chicken, veggies, you name it and if it's southern, it was on the menu. I decided on an assortment of biscuits including ones with bacon, country ham, pork loin, plus egg and cheese. I managed to scarf down about half of each except the country ham which I polished off completely. How good was the country ham? The next morning before my 8:00 AM flight to DC, I ordered 200 of them to go. I carried them in two large aluminum foil pans onto the airplane and then into my office in the District. Only second time I have ever done such a thing. Funny thing is both times I was coming from Memphis!

Bryant's is famous for breakfast. I do enjoy the breakfast biscuit sandwiches. However, my favorite is to go for lunch. They have daily specials and a regular menu. They are cash only. On the weekends they only serve breakfast. The lunches are traditional southern home cooking. Love the owners.

Everyone stopped and stared at us when we walked in. It didnt help matters that we stopped and read the menu before ordering. Almost instantly the nice Latin lady brought over our grub with a smile. One bite of that country ham and the yoke smothered biscuit and I was in breakfast heaven. Best ham and biscuits I've had in years, possibly ever. This place is nothing fancy, but with food that good, why bother?!

  • Tanya T.

I'm not a huge biscuit fan, that is, unless I'm at Bryant's. People aren't lying, y'all, Bryant's has the flakiest, fluffiest, most buttery biscuits in town. I like them with honey. If you go on a weekend, you'll most likely have to wait, unless you wake up super early and head out immediately. Bryant's always has a line. Another note, the place is cash only so stop by the ATM before settling in to eat. You can also enjoy bacon, sausage, grits, eggs, country ham and other typical southern breakfast eats here, and it's all good too. But nothing tops those biscuits!

Well, lol the wait was definitely something serious. There were approximately 50 people in front of me and my daughter. The menu was pretty impressive. I'm not an omelet eater at all but theirs looked mighty fine. I ordered 3 pancakes, eggs with cheese, grits, hash browns, biscuits and gravy with 2 orange juices. My total came out to $15.60. WHICH reminds me, they do NOT accept cards. So, make SURE you take cash ONLY. The food is MORE than Plentiful. The staff is swift to say the least and I've NEVER gotten a 'cook to order' meal So quickly. The food was pretty good. Not the best but, good. Also, its not the best place for 'groups'. So don't go with more that 1 person and try not to go with kids at all. And get there as early as Humanly possible to TRY to avoid the lines. We got there at about 9 and still waited around 30 mins. I Most definitely recommend you try this place out. And if you're in that area, you'll become a regular.

Can't believe this place isn't a 5-star! Home cooking at its best for a good price. If you are a Tiger fan it is a must stop prior to early football/basketball games. Sausage/egg/cheese biscuit is great. My wife is a veggie and loves their viddles for lunch. Highly recommend this place, especially for breakfast! Don't forget your cash b/c they don't take plastic!

The worst part about Bryant's is how close I live to it. Every morning when I drive by I want to pull in and fill up on some of the best biscuits in town. It takes all my willpower to keep driving some mornings. It's pretty much a dive - an old-style diner with that greasy spoon feel to it. But I think they have one of the best traditional southern breakfasts around: eggs, bacon, sausage, country ham and yes - those famous biscuits and gravy that call out to me each morning. So, if you're in the area and want a big, fat delicious breakfast, you gotta check this place out. But dieters beware - they don't specialize in granola here.

If I could count the numerous weekends my husband and I have attempted Bryant's for breakfast and kept on driving by at the sight of the sheer volume of people in that line. Sorry, a gal's quite hungry on a Sunday morning after a night of partying. Line waiting for biscuits and gravy is not my forte. This time we got smart. We went on a Monday *insert evil laugh here* and beat the system if you will. I'll repeat it again, as I was not smart enough to read the Yelp reviews before hand- this establishment is CASH ONLY. Luckily enough for us, there is a gas station right next door with a cash machine. We were on sensory overload when we got in here The menu stretches the entire back wall behind the counter and then some. And despite it being a Monday, it was still pretty busy. We knew it would be way too much food, but we both ordered the sampler. 3 eggs, hash brown, 3 biscuits and gravy, grits, sausage, bacon, ham and a pork tenderloin hunk. Now I'm unaware of how a pork tenderloin hunk belongs on a breakfast sampler, but I will let that small flaw slide as Bryant's has the most ass-kickin' bacon I've ever laid to rest on my tongue. No. For real. It's crispy and chewy all at once and thick. I was disheartened that there was only 1 piece on my plate. The eggs were cooked perfect- which seems to be a small feat. Anytime I get scrambled eggs they have a runny, food buffet consistency to them. Not at Bryant's. Here comes the most disappointing part of my experience. The biscuits and gravy were a HUGE let down. That gravy is seriously lacking. It is like wall paper paste. I was livid that I ruined my biscuits by immediately pouring it all over their hot, buttery goodness. I ended up picking off chunks of unscathed biscuit residue to eat plain. This is what I will be doing from now on as those biscuits need no help. Everyone should be eating them plain by the dozen (especially with gravy that bad- my Grandma's a Yankee and she cooks better gravy than that folks) The hash brown was simply delightful. It had seasoning to it, though I couldn't put my finger on what it was. I'm not a grit girl, so I cannot comment on those, but the ham was very salty and the tenderloin just got pushed around repeatedly as I couldn't bring myself to try it I was so full. Quite simply put, Bryant's has amazing food- quite possibly the best breakfast in Memphis. I just didn't order correctly. Next time I will order a breakfast sandwich or biscuits and honey, tons of bacon and some hash browns. Never again shall the gravy grace the confines of my plate. My advice to you- go ahead and order it if you're curious, just do the finger test before dousing those heaven sent biscuits with it. You'll thank me later.

Decent atmosphere, good pork. The grits and gravey were a bit bland but a good country diner.

Visited in June, 2009. Bryant's can make even the most stubborn Yankee appreciate a southern breakfast. From the grits to the biscuits to the ham to the sweeeeeeeet tea, this place is as good as it gets. The line might seem long, but it goes quick and table turn-over happens quick as well. And like a wonderfully coordinated ballet company, the staff at Bryant's leaves nothing to worry over.

Great food. The country ham is huge and comes with eggs, grits, and biscuits. The quantity is enough to feed an army. The lunch menu is spectacular. It's a traditional southern menu. Love the fried okra, turnip greens, and black eye peas. The service is quick and friendly. We will definitely back. Especially for some biscuits!

The best breakfast in town hands down! Go here for a casual Southern style breakfast. I'm a Southern girl and was raised on my dad's homemade biscuits and gravy. There is nothing else like them, but Bryant's come close. Get the biscuits and ham plate that comes with grits and scrambled eggs or just get a bag of biscuits to go. They also have plate lunches that look good. Honestly I've never tried them. When I go here I'm on a biscuit mission and come away happy everytime!

Great no nonsense, lets get down to it breakfast diner. I made it here before dawn broke and let them know I was a newbie and was directed to the platters. I went with the country sausage platter with hash browns. Being a homemade biscuit maker myself (the only thing I can bake), my criteria is based on its flakiness, its internal gooeyness and a well browned top & bottom. This place had it all. The biscuits were practically falling apart, which is a good sign for me, and went down smooth when coated in the brown gravy. My only and ongoing dilemma is pre cooked food. The food came out real quick but that means the sausage & hash browns were precooked. Food comes quick vs. food sitting out for a bit. But of course I cleaned my plate ....

I saw David M.'s review and realized I hadn't reviewed Bryants! EVERYONE (visitors and Memphians alike) needs to eat at Bryants. Family owned and pretty much authentic breakfast. You may see them pulling the ham slices out of a frozen box, but you won't care when you take a bite of a country ham biscuit...the biscuits are perfect and will pretty much kill you with the lard/butter or whatever fat they use to make them so heavenly. Classic country handbills on the wall along with their great Tshirts. Nicest people around too. My wife craved their biscuits when she was pregnant with our daughter. Good lunch too (white beans n cornbread yum), but I don't think they serve BBQ anymore. I might be wrong. David's right in that it's probably one of the most diverse dining crowds in Memphis. Parents on their way to drop their kids at the private schools down the street to construction workers to the regular crowd who's always harassing each other. Communal table makes it fun too. Note Cash Only.

After reading several great reviews of this place, we decided to try it out. We attempted to visit Bryant's on a Sunday morning and just by glancing through the windows we could tell that it was WAY to crowded. We tried again on a Wednesday morning and it was still very busy, but not as bad. (We decided if it was always pretty busy then it must be pretty good!). When we first entered we were a bit confused as to what to do...do we sit down first? Is there a waitress? After a few minutes of observation we realized that you order at the counter. There was quite a line, but it seemed to move very fast. At this point we also remembered (from looking at the website) - this place is CASH ONLY. I ordered the breakfast special - 2 eggs, biscuits & gravy, grits & choice of meat. This is a "seat yourself" place...(I think) and there are many seats, but they are very crammed and narrow. With four of us at one table we had very limited space and with the seats being connected to the table there is no way to make more room. The food came out very fast and the orders were exactly right. The biscuits are delicious and plenty!! (they give you three with this order) The gravy is not very good - it tasted like grease and flour only, but after I doctored it up with salt & pepper it was still just "ok", the bacon was crispy and the grits were ok as well. Someone in our party tried the cinnamon roll french toast and it was delicious! It also came with a side of strawberries & blueberries which looked amazing. I would not say it is the worst place, but it's definitely not the best in Memphis.

This place is pretty awesome. The food is good and filling. You won't leave the place hungry. The prices are pretty reasonable too. However, bring cash! They do not accept any form of credit or debit. Also, there is always a line. It does go pretty fast so it's not a big deal, but if you are super hungry or pressed for time you may want to do take out. They are also closed on Sundays. Overall, it's a great breakfast diner, but don't expect it to be overly heart healthy. It's typical Southern breakfast fare.

Brought in a bag o' biscuits to the office this morning!! Yum! Love the ham! Love the biscuits and honey! Especially loved the fact I got a front row parking spot and was able to walk directly to the cash register! So much better than on the weekends! 7:15 on a Tuesday! Now am in carbohydrate coma!

After all I have heard about Bryant's, I was sure that it would not disappoint. UnTRUE. I don't know if I went on the wrong day or if everyone just likes it and I do not. First, everything was greasy... not in a country, cooked in mama's kitchen kind of way, but a nasty, I want to blot off with my napkin there is so much kind of way. Second, their gravy is horrendous, it tastes like it came in a package that requires only the addition of water, which I found to be disgusting. This was the # 1 part of the meal that I was looking forward to, so after tasting this, the experience was a complete fail. Third, and the only reason for two stars, the biscuits.. they did have some great southern style biscuits. If I am ever forced to eat there again, this is probably what I will have, with some jelly.

Coffee: The people at Bryant's have their priorities straight. While you're waiting in line to place your order, you can grab a mug or a go cup and fill up on coffee. The coffee is standard Folger-y diner fare, but I swear they add some extra caffeine to it - I was buzzing for hours. Biscuit: The biscuits are amazing. They're perfectly fluffy, slightly salty and have a lot of flavor. It's like they're baked in heaven every morning and delivered to Bryant's by a pack of hangover-curing angels. And the breakfast special comes with three of them, which is more than any sane person can eat. Bacon: Bryant's bacon was a little greasy, but it wasn't super crunchy, tough or salty. Scrambled Eggs: The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy. They had a tiny bit of runniness to them, but it was a patchy, inconsistent runniness. Pancake: Bryant's doesn't do regular bread pancakes, so they gave me a potato (hash brown) pancake instead. Whatever - it was so good, I don't care what it's made of. It was salty and greasy and flavorful. Love! Grits: People, grits are a blank canvas. They're the 8.5 x 11 white paper of the breakfast world - they need something on them to be interesting. The texture of Bryant's grits was right on, but there was no real flavor. Service: You place your order at the counter at Bryant's. They give you a number and nice ladies in shirts that say witty things about gravy come and bring you your food. When the place gets crowded, the service is still fast, friendly and efficient.

I finally got around to trying this place and have been back several times since. Good ol' down-home diner-style food with very reasonable prices. I've yet to try anything I didn't like. They even have a great old fashioned off the grill burger. You won't leave this place hungry.

this cant be THE BEST BREAKFAST IN MEMPHIS...THE BEST????? maybe one of the oldest....i just dont understand..what is it about this place...is it the standing on top of each other.......the smell of thy neighbor from being so close....or is it how crammed and wedged you are at the tables..or is it you get to eat your meal with someone's BEHIND IN YOUR FACE......COME ON PEOPLE...THE BEST....I KNOW ITS THE PEACH JAM THAT BRINGS EVERYONE BACK.....this place is like a CATTLE CALL...its like trying to fit 5 lbs. of crap in a 1 lb bag.....between the cold food the dry over salted meat....the cups of grits...... the cups of gravy.....the cups of drinks...the plates the plasticware...the butter, the jelly all to fit on a table no bigger than the thought you are having right now...COME ON.... STOP IT....THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST PLACE FOR CONTROLLED CHAOS........BUT AS FAR AS BREAKFAST...YOU CAN HAVE IT MEMPHIS...NO THANK YOU

Located at Graham and Summer Avenue area. This is a great place to grab breakfast for most locals who have discovered it. I have to say my favorite is the cinnamon roll, they make these from scratch, boy is it good!!! They are fresh and great with milk or coffee. The other food items will not disappoint, great and worth the wait if you have the time. I get in early as that line will form because the homemade food here is worth the wait.

  • Mike B.

The best breakfast I've ever had. Period. Why? The biscuits and the eggs. That's it. Anyone who says the biscuits aren't exceptionally exceptional is insane. (I don't like their gravy too much, tho....go with a cup of molasses instead to top them off.) The eggs also taste extremely fresh. Everything else is fine, but kind of run-of-the-mill. Kudos also to the "system" they've got down for getting tons of people in and out. So don't worry if there's a long line: they're super efficient and you'll move really fast...and people don't linger at the tables...so there's likely to be one open by the time you're served. Overall, a top-notch operation.

gotta love Yelp! we stayed overnight in Memphis on Sunday and went looking for good breakfast....found this little gem quickly by mapping from our hotel. by the time we arrived to Bryant's it was closer to 11 and upon entering my tastebuds quickly turned to lunch fare. per Deen B...i went for the Hamburger steak w/Grilled Onions, White Beans and Fried Okra(the lunch special only offered 2 sides?) The HS was quite dry and i kindly asked for one "less done". The lady who was running the show kindly obliged and had a fresh one whipped up for me in no time. Delicious and flavorful! The onions were so good too. Loved the White beans(that were full of crumbled ham pieces). I wish i would have gotten the Fried Green tomatoes instead of the Fried okra. A very nice lady who sat next to our table offered me one of hers and i without shame accepted...MY GOODNESS that was the best FGT I have ever had! Like a mini corncake with a savory juicy tomato in between. My husband had the center cut ham, two eggs and grit breakfast. Served with biscuits and gravy. Those biscuits are delicious! I have never seen PEACH Jelly in a restaurant before, but they have it here! Love this place! Super friendly and efficient operation they have going on! This place is great!

I would give Bryant's 2 1/2 stars for food and ambiance. Here's the thing. If you like a good-tasting-in-a-greasy-way, down home breakfast with standard breakfast fare (eggs, ham, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, etc.), you may like Bryant's A LOT. It is kind of the epitome of old school southern breakfast food. But if your idea of a great breakfast is "healthful" fare like organic fruit, cage-free eggs, granola, and artisanal breads, this is NOT the place for you. I will say that the biscuits are the best I have ever eaten. The eggs, hash browns, sausage, etc., were pretty standard and on the very greasy side. The staff was SUPER friendly. Cash only. There was definitely a line for breakfast on the weekend, but lots of those in line (and there were many) must have been getting takeout. The hostess helped us find seating while we were in line (convenient). The line moved quickly. The 70s decor looked authentic, but the prices I thought reflected that you aren't paying for the mood lighting. For some reason, they use a LOT of styrofoam, and that made me feel slightly guilty. Seemed environmentally unfriendly.

Okay, okay....we know Bryant's is a great place for breakfast, but have you tried their Meat and 3 lunch??? (or meat and 2) It's pretty dern good too! They have hamburger steak, which is a personal favorite of mine....but there's all kinds of home cooking goodness to choose from. They close at 2. This place can get a little hectic at high noon, so don't dilly dally at the counter! :)

The most authentic southern 'biscuits & gravy' breakfast around. Grits & gravy, country ham & eggs-like breakfast at grandma's! They staff is friendly and they know most of their regulars by name, little surprise they've been coming here for years. If you get there early, don't be surprised if you find yourself eating near a construction crew. Portion are generous. Of course they have good barbecue, if you can find room for it. But believe they only serve chopped pork sandwhiches. They're open 'country early' 5AM and close at 1PM (2PM on weekends).

i obviously am in the minority , but i was not impressed, ordered breakfast.. the famous biscuits,, ugh, bland gravy.. country ham was way overcooked, prob. will come back for lunch type food, but i missed the hype.

So the biscuits really are the best we had in Memphis. The portions are good, there's nothing else fancy here except the good food. We got the blackberry? cobbler as a takeout and it was excellent.

I've heard from numerous people to check this breakfast spot out if I were ever in the area. Today was that day and I am thoroughly pleased with my finding! It's a small building and it gets packed quick. The lines loved pretty quickly though, but it would be confusing for any first timers especially with two different doors to walk into that one line. I didn't know what to get so I figured the sampler wouldn't fail me. It was only $10 for such a great amount of food! My eggs, bacon, sausage, potato cake/other various meats were perfect! I never cared for grits but you can't substitute for anything really, except gravy. Pretty delicious And now I know why it's very busy (:

My wife and I have eaten at Bryant's several times - frankly, I don't know why I haven't eaten there more (they've been around since 1968) - but today's Breakfast Sampler was quite good. Sure, I did have and enjoyed my biscuits and gravy, and eggs, and grits. Today, though, I had the Country Fried Steak (hadn't had it before) - I've enjoyed their sausage many times. My Country Fried Steak today was very "deliciously crunchy", very tender, and just the right "hot-ness". The whole breakfast was just flat out good, that's all. In fact, I had to take one of the three biscuits home - to save for later. DId I mention the coffee? It was good too - managed to get a fresh pot. You've seen it for years, driven by for years and said, "I'm gonna go there for breakfast soon" - well DO it! And start enjoying some great food!

oooo WOW. I am impressed. For a long time now, I have turned my nose up to the thought of going to this place, because it couldn't be as good as people say. Well today, I was made a believing fool. The thought of their delicious food, makes me hungry. Plain and simple. I tried one of their breakfast sandwiches, Country Fried Steak/Egg/Cheese on a biscuit. It was succulent and delicious. Touche! I also tried the sampler. Eggs scrambled with cheese. The only thing I would change is add a little cheese to the grits. Keep up the solid work. I will be back... soon.

Our trip to Memphis was coming to a close and we were getting ready to get our friend to the airport so we can get on the road to Atlanta. Of course, before doing so, I needed to get some fuel into my belly. We originally wanted to go to a very high rated breakfast place in the area, but we were quoted an hour and a half wait. This was much too long and I was much too hungry, so we opted for Bryant's as a result of Yelp. First of all, I walk in to Bryant's and it's nothing that I have seen before. Line almost out the door, you order your breakfast at the counter, then you take your number and grab a seat. Pretty simple concept. It's also worth noting that it's CASH ONLY. The line moves pretty quick when it's busy, and the service moves quick. By the time we got to the register, there was still more than a decent pick of places to sit as well, which relaxed my anxiety a bit. Their food is affordable and the servings are exceptional. I ordered the two egg over easy breakfast with bacon. With every breakfast, you get three biscuits, a side of gravy and a side of grits. Eggs are eggs, but this bacon was thick and crunchy which is just how I like it. Not to mention three biscuits is just two biscuits too many, but I wasn't complaining as I was dipping them into their wonderful gravy. I'm not a grit girl, so I tried them but didn't entertain them. I enjoyed my quick and easy meal so much that we got one of their homemade cinnamon rolls to bring home for dessert while we watched Game of Thrones that night. There is no better cinnamon roll in these seven kingdoms than the cinnamon rolls at Bryant's. By the time we got in and got out, it was only 45 minutes. We would of still be waiting for a table at the other place.

Wish I could eat here everyday!! I miss it and miss a good southern breakfast. I love their Steak Biscuits which you can rarely find anywhere these days, sadly. Their food is always consistently good, fast and unlike anywhere else. It was so good to get to stop in here again while I was in town visiting. Remember! Cash Only & Lines out the Door so be prepared! Their bacon pancakes were so light and fluffy as well. Also a great place for Lunch, good southern cooking although I prefer the breakfast. If you haven't tried this place out, please don't wait! It's a Memphis tradition. Also don't be fooled by the part of town it's in or the small size of it. Get it to go if nothing else, it'll blow you away!!

A bit pricey for take out of 4 biscuits and 2 cinnamon rolls. I am not opposed to trying it again, as the food was good, but the best I have ever had? Not by a long shot.

Nice local place/greasy spoon...not the most comfortable fit for a lot of people But the food is good! Banana pancakes were awesome!!!! Good cheap place, fast service equals happy first visit!

Having been truly blown away by another Memphis staple in the form of Earnestine & Hazel's, I was good and ready the next morning for what was described to me as by far the best breakfast in town. Long story short? I think I was disappointed because I didn't have any real ties to the city of Memphis or Bryant's as a whole, and what had to be strictly an objective review based on the food lead to a bit of disappointment. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? One thing I did absolutely love about Bryant's Breakfast was that in many it's the product of it's community, which is a rarity these days with the ever growing grasp of various chains and fast casual spots. Bryant's Breakfast is every bit as Memphis as the city itself, and the line of locals out the door should be more than enough to tell you that. As most reviews touch on, people have grown up on Bryant's as if it were Sunday church itself, and while jam packed with sparse seating and a line that will have you waiting likely 30 or more minutes on a weekend morning, you'll enjoy the wait. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? While locals tell me that prices have gone up especially over the past year or so, my massive sample (known as "The Sampler", was $10.00, and was the most expensive thing on the menu. Five meats, three biscuits and three eggs for $10? Value if ever it existed. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Unfortunately, "you get what you pay for" came to mind a bit when I finally dug into my sampler platter. The highlight of this dish was without question the biscuits, which were excellent, but the eggs and all of the meats were weak. The pork tenderloin? tough and dry. The country and city hams? salty to the point of not being edible. The bacon and sausage? both overcooked to the point of lacking flavor. The potato patty was another highlight, but I'm struggling to believe that this was housemade. While my friend's biscuit sandwiches were a bit better, I can't help but feel that my dish was less than even a sum of its parts, and I walked away full but disappointed. No Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I loved the local flair and sense of community at Bryant's Breakfast, but for me it's the quality of the food that mattered as much as the atmosphere, and it's there at Bryant's fell well short. Sure, there's value, and a visit to Bryant's is an experience above all else, but the food was lacking, and I've very often experienced better. No Star Granted.

Besides brother junipers this has to be my favorite place in Memphis for breakfast. First they have the most amazing homemade rolls. I always get the Everything Omelet, but the veggie one is also really good! Beside the Omelet their pancake are also really good, think my favorite is the one with Nutella. Get there early as the line get a bit long. They now open on Sunday but still cash only.

  • Camille W.

First time experience service was very quick even with a line in the new age swipe a card like I do nor at this place had to dip next door to an ATM machine for cash which was not a problem my order was ready to go when I got back and no waiting love it and the food was great....

I'd never heard of Bryant's before eating here, but after dining I would definitely come back. There's nothing like a good country breakfast. My girlfriend and I shared The Sampler and it was more than enough food for two people. This place is cash only as mentioned, so be advised.

Have you ever thought to yourself, "I could really go for some pancakes...and eggs...and bacon...and grits..." The second this crosses your mind, run as fast as you can to Bryant's Breakfast. This place is just a great quality, good old hearty breakfast place. When you think "large portions", think bigger and you have breakfast at Bryant's. I've had a number of things off of their menu. Eggs are fresh (you can get them cooked anyway you like), bacon delish, grits are creamy, and the biscuits/gravy are a true southern delight! They offer pancakes in a bunch of flavors. It's like Forrest Gump, but for pancakes...plain pancakes, strawberry pancakes, blueberry pancakes, BACON PANCAKES!!! Yeah, they taste as good as they sound (I've tried every flavor I just listed). So here's my advice on this place....GO EARLY and GO HUNGRY. They have quite a bit of seating, but I've watched that place get over 30 people deep by 9:30am on a Saturday. If you do end up in the line, it's worth the wait and the calories.

I've been going here since I was little. It is filled with memories of waking up early to hunt with my dad and picking up a few biscuits for the road. Today I got something other than biscuits for the first time. I got an order of blueberry pancakes and shared an order of eggs with my sister. DAMN! I consider myself a pancake king of sorts. These were really really good. I can't imagine picking up a better breakfast at a hole in the wall type joint. The line circling out the door tells you all you need to. If you've lived in Memphis all your life and haven't been here, you can leave.

Checked this place out for Sunday late breakfast. The line was really long, but the food was simple and tasted great. If you are looking for a different experience I would highly recommend this. But be prepared to wait in line.

This is definitely the very best Memphis has to offer. The line is always long and it moves very quickly and efficiently. There's nothing else quite like Bryant biscuits. The omelets. Pancakes. My favorite Philly cheese biscuits. It is not on the menu for breakfast special but they do it every time I ask. This should be part of every vacation to Memphis and a luxury for any Memphian. Bryant's thank you for your hard work and excellent service!!

This is my favorite breakfast in Memphis. I wish they took cards, though, as I rarely have cash. There is always a line, but it moves at a decent pace. And somehow, there is always a table when it's your turn to sit down. It's an order at the counter place. I had the breakfast special, which gives you a cup of gravy, a cup of grits, two eggs, three biscuits, and a choice of meat. I had the country ham. Everything is great! Service is also great. They have pancakes, french toast, and more.

Great service! Everyone is so nice and hard working! The place was kept clean even though it was busy the entire time. The biscuits are amazing, you can taste the freshness! We will be back because there is so much to try!! The owner is so nice and that makes the place the friendly one that it is!! :) leaving extremely full and very happy!

i super super wanted to like this place. i rly did, especially since all my yelp friends raved about it. But it really was just okt, and it doesn't even hold a candle to bro Js. The line was insanely long, and you're standing the whole time cramped in the little space (I guess that's what makes it homely; but thats not really why I only gave it 3 stars). the people are VERY Friendly though, and I do have to say the lady who mans over the coffee station is so sweet! They have an extensive menu, so you really can't go wrong here. Since I Came with my family, we ordered a little bit of everything. Since it's been so long, I can't specifically remember the exact dishes but all I remember was that.. they weren't that memorable. Seating wise, depends on when you come. If you come on a saturday morning like we did, then you'll have to fight for seats and just kind of hunker over the area like chinese people do on a regular basis in flushing. I DO have to say though the biscuits are YUMMYLICIOUS! I did like their biscuits. but everything else was just average-a-ok. NO CARDS! CASH ONLY! NOT OPEN ON SUNDAYS CLOSES EARLY(around 1 -2 PM ish?) It's just your average normal breakfast place, to me.

  • AJ W.

First time trying this place. Some of the worst biscuits and gravy I have ever had. Not only was the gravy not very good but they put an obnoxious amount on as if they hope you need a coronary bypass when you're done. The only thing that somewhat salvaged the meal were the biscuits. Giving it two stars since prices are cheap and I haven't tried any other items yet.

  • Andrew S.

Fast service. There was a line when we went in but we put our order in pretty quickly and our food was out in under 5 minutes. I had the bacon pancakes and my wife had the veggie omelet. Pancakes were fluffy and delicious. My wife said her veggie omelet was seasoned nicely. My favorite part were the biscuits that came with my wife's breakfast. Dense and fluffy at the same time. Great place for breakfast.

I love "Southern" breakfast, and biscuits and gravy are my favorite! Bryant's loves their gravy so much they brag about it on their t-shirts and glasses, so I was pretty excited. Undeservedly so, unfortunately. The gravy was pretty flavorless, and it had a weird, almost gelatinous consistency. The biscuits may have been frozen, I'm not sure. They definitely weren't light and fluffy like I had been hoping for. Those are the negatives. The country sausage and country ham were really good, though. One of our friends had pancakes, and she said they were really good, although they didn't give her enough syrup! All in all, it was an ok experience, but if I had waited in the huge line that was developing when we left, I would NOT have been happy!

@bryantsmemphis made me believe in breakfast again. I walked in thinking, "How good can it really be? How much better can simple bacon, eggs, and pancakes be than other places?" Well, honey, it'll blow your mind. Kinda makes me wonder what kinda swill I'v

I just love this place. I am a Breakfast Connoisseur...I love breakfast more than any other meal of the day. Bryant's is my church on sunday mornings. Speaking of sunday mornings, be a heathen like me and get there before the church folks get out. You'll thank me later when you see the line out the door as you sit at your table with your delicious eggs, sausage, coffee, and biscuits. Please don't come here expecting to be served hand and foot. Let's face it, it's on Summer Ave. You're not going to walk down a red carpet to get in the place. You might see a couple homeless people. You are expected to grab your own coffee, napkins, etc. (The woman who clears the tables has enough on her hands as it is). So come, order good food, don't be stuck up, and tip. You'll leave loving Memphis just a little more.

Truly a long-time local favorite in Memphis, still delivering great food and smiling, friendly service. I had the works omelette with fresh biscuits, gravy and grits. Wife had scrambled eggs, bacon and biscuits. Food is exceptional and moderately priced. Want to try their pecan pancakes next!

Best breakfast in town. Home made goodness. Everything is pretty spectacular. highly recommended. The grits are the perfect texture. The biscuits are fluffy. The omelettes are an incredible delight. The bacon is just right. bacon.bacon.bacon.bacon.bacon.

Bryant's is quintessentially Memphis to me: the kind of place where you'll see every type of person rubbing elbows, waiting in line for fantastic, inexpensive breakfast. The staff behind the counter seems to know just about everyone in line and it just feels like community. I know they have a wide range of options, but I personally have only had breakfast sandwiches on the best biscuits in Memphis. They pile them high with eggs and bacon or whatever meat your heart desires. For this stack of morning magic, expect to pay $2-$3. With food like that for prices like that, it's easy to see why people happily wait in lines out the door and comply with the cash only policy. As you may have gathered, light fare is not their specialty, but if you want a stack of delicious on the cheap this is the place for it.

Our first visit to @BryantsMemphis was on a Sunday at 8:40 am. It was pretty busy, but the food still came pretty quickly. I ordered the Breakfast Special with bacon (2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, 3 biscuits with gravy, & grits). It was made fresh and every bit of this tasted good My wife ordered the French Toast Breakfast (2-3 eggs, 2 slices of bacon & 2 slices of French toast). She liked the eggs, but decided she would go for the pancakes on the next go around. The coffee was good. It is mild, not bitter or bold, which is how we like our coffee (i.e. not like Starbucks). Note: There will be a line when you walk in (& it may go out the door at times). This is not people waiting for a table, it's because you order at the counter as you walk in the north door. There appears to be plenty of seating, even on a busy Sunday morning, even some tables outside for the warmer times. Some tables are 'family style', meaning you you may be sitting with other parties, which we chose to do. That's fine, be courteous and eat with your mouth closed. :-). Overall, the staff were prompt and friendly, the food was good and the place was clean and tables rapidly bused when folks left.

This place is great, a Memphis institution. If you want a good breakfast, cooked the way you want it, this is the place. I can't tell you how many times I've come here and the line is out the door. If that doesn't tell you how good this place is nothing else I put in this review will persuade you either. That being said all I can rate this place on is the breakfast menu, I've never had the plate lunch. Even at lunch time I always order from the breakfast menu. One day I promise myself I will order a plate lunch but it's just so hard NOT to order breakfast. Everything from pancakes to eggs are phenomenal. The biscuits are so fluffy and flavorful. A little butter and some jam and I'm in heaven. The country ham is great old school ham. Smoked and full of salt the way country ham is supposed to be. No deli ham here trying to be passed off for something it's not. No matter where you live in this city, do yourself a favor and jump in your car and head to Bryant's and enjoy a good breakfast. You can thank me later.

Bring cash and expect a long wait but it will be worth it in the end. I stick with the biscuit sandwiches and they are amazing. The credit is owed to the biscuit, the other toppings are added bonuses.

Loved everything about Bryant's. Love the small casual feel. Love that you order and the food comes to you- makes everything faster I think. Food came out hot, huge portions, cheap prices, good selection, and the staff was so so nice. We had a MUCH better experience here than at Brothers Juniper and I think the biscuits were better here. I ordered scrambled eggs with cheddar with bacon. It comes with three delicious biscuits and sides of gravy and grits. My mom got a veggie omelette that she said was perfect. She's still talking about it actually.

Why, oh why didn't I read more reviews before I thought to myself "The gravy bowl is really cheap, it's probably small, I should get something else, too..."? Yes, the gravy bowl is less than $4. No, it is not small. Get an additional biscuit on the side to slop of some of the spectacular amounts of gravy involved and you'll be good to go. Added cheese to the bowl which was a darn good idea (I'm from Wisconsin, we add cheese to everything - it's a good life choice). I loved the gravy - great consistency and not too inexplicably spicy or peppery. Just thick and creamy and oh so delicious. Also split the cinnamon roll french toast with someone and it's as decadent as it sounds - a cinnamon roll sliced the long way in thirds and grilled up as french toast. Was served with a side of fresh strawberries, which was a nice touch. A table mate got an omelette that looked good, but 1) came with 3 biscuits which seemed like overkill and 2) at $8 seemed a little pricey in comparison to the other stuff. If I'd have been sitting there with that slightly pricey omelette looking at everyone else's specialty plates, I'd have been disappointed. Save the omelettes for Denny's. You're at a country Southern breakfast joint - jump in and get one of the house plates.

This may be my shortest review ever. Ready?... Now THAT'S a country breakfast! Done! Footnote: 1. Cash, no plastic. 2. There may be a line (it moves fast; you're a Yelper, so live off your fat reserves). 3. The doors get locked at 1:30, so don't get there at 1:31, dummy.

Great breakfast spot with good southern country cooking. You can eat it in but this location is rather small. The outside seating consists of about 3 tables. In the mornings it is really loud and busy especially on Sunday mornings, but the food is awesome so it's worth it.

Cash only ... Counter style ordering and we had to wait in line to order. We came on an Sunday at noon. The line moved fast though. Staff was friendly. My husband ate the country sausage breakfast and he said it was your average country breakfast, not the best he has ever had but not bad either. I ordered the cinnamon roll French toast and it was very good. Over all our experience was a good one

Yelp guided us here and we were not disappointed. As others have mentioned, the line can be long, seating can be crowded, and they are a cash-only establishment (there is an ATM at the gas station next door). That said, things more quickly and people are very friendly. The food is decent -- I wasn't as impressed by the gravy as others. It was pretty flavorless and had a weird texture; it doesn't cling to the side of the cup but pulls away cleanly... not sure how they managed that. I'd have liked it a little more peppery and/or maybe have a sausage gravy option, but that's just me. Biscuits are not the light and fluffy kind -- they are dense to stand up to the gravy; this is an observation, not a complaint. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Grits were a little watery and served with fake butter, which I don't like at all. Coffee was good. Fried bologna is thick cut and tasty. Lots of food, for not a lot of cash. The best ever? No, but hot and fast. I'd go back..

The biscuits here make the meal. Possibly the best biscuits I have ever eaten. Light and airy, but with the sound structural integrity that make them the excellent base to a breakfast sandwich, and which could easily stand up to being drenched in gravy or anything else you could heap on to it. The flavor was buttery and just slightly salty, and the crust was golden and perfect; crisp, but not dry or overcooked. A close second are the eggs. (We got scrambled, which were exceedingly fluffy and light, but peering onto other customers' plates, the over easy eggs looks perfectly cooked.). We tried the sampler, with an extra biscuit, split between two people. This seems to be popular because the cashier immediately asked us if we wanted two plates without any prompting. Like I said above, the biscuits are the stars here. We tried all the meats on the sampler. All were ok to poor. Nothing special. But with the biscuits and fluffy scrambled eggs, the average meat quality is more than made up for. Same goes for the gravy. Its probably Cisco canned industrial stuff. Same with the meats. But the other key here is value. The breakfasts here are SHOCKINGLY CHEAP. The sampler split two ways with coffees was $6.50 each, and was more than enough food for both me and my friend. And that's why Rather bland I thought. If they just cooked and crumbled in the sausage patties

  • Kathleen M.

My husband thought the line was too long at Brother Juniper's so we went to the second breakfast place I had bookmarked. Sigh. We should have just stayed. We waited in line and both ordered the sampler and oj. We found a seat easily and the meal was delivered. I tried everything. Probably the worst breakfast of my life. It was bathed in salt broth, the meats were overdone cakes of salt. The coffee was hard to get to and the meal was just really low quality. I did enjoy the biscuits. I am sorry Memphis, I have had all good times and good experiences in your great city but this was not my kind of place.

I have been meaning to try Bryant's for years and finally got the chance this morning. When I saw a line of 30+ people winding around the outside of the building like dominoes in the middle of the pouring rain, I figured they must be doing something right. Indeed, they are. The line moved at a reasonable speed (and kept growing--it was longer when I left than when I arrived) and I was impressed at the mechanical efficiency of the workers manning the hot griddles. That is NOT an easy job. Everyone behind the counter was extremely friendly and my to go order was ready within 5 minutes of placing it. I tried the bacon egg and cheese biscuit for me, a sausage biscuit for my husband, and potato cakes and grits. The biscuits are out of this world--flaky, buttery, substantial with the perfect amount of salt. Anything you put on these biscuits would be incredible. I enjoyed the potato cakes, but if you aren't big on onion (like my husband) that it might not be your thing. Outside of the ones my grandfather served us as kids, these grits are the finest I can remember having in a restaurant. I usually am a cheese grits girl, but these honestly didn't need it. The texture of the buttery concoction was smooth and perfect. I will agree with a previous post that most of the fare needs to be doctored with salt and pepper to the individual's liking (which is nice for those who prefer their food unseasoned). With salt and pepper, the grits became glorious. If you are looking for something healthy (or fancy), this is not the place (I ran 5 miles before getting take out here and no doubt negated it with my meal . . . but it was very much worth it). If you want a damn good, steal of a deal on a delicious American breakfast, this is definitely your place. Like almost every establishment on Summer Avenue, the bathroom is a scary place so try to avoid having to go in there. And don't forget that it is CASH ONLY. It would stink to wait in that long line and have to start over.

It's cool. It's breakfast! There isn't much you can do to make breakfast spectacular. Especially food off of the back of a Sysco Foods truck.

  • Greg M.

If this is the best breakfast in Memphis, I'll stick to the hotel. Biscuits were nothing special. Sausage gravy, bland. Sausage, just so-so. Hash browns, McDonalds-like. Coffee, pathetic. OJ, pre-packaged. If it's greasy, blah, belly-filler you're after, pull out your "cash only"' wait in line, and fill up! Sure, it's been there forever, but in this case, that's not necessarily a good thing, although I did offer an extra star for the historical significance.

I'm a born and raised Memphian, and I'd never heard of this place until the morning I went there for breakfast. It's a down-home breakfast spot that has been around forever. It was packed with a line out the door around 11:00/11:30 in the morning. You order at the counter and it probably takes 15 minutes to get there. I wasn't feeling great, so I couldn't devour my food like I wanted to. I will say the biscuits are amazing and my food overall pretty satisfying. They literally give you about three or four biig country style biscuits with every order. This is not a must-stop in Memphis dining, but if you do go, enjoy. And remember butter or cheese for your grits. Those aren't that great.

Best biscuit in town. PERIOD. Good portions. Great breakfast...A MUST breakfast spot if you're visiting memphis. Old school feel and a taste of Memphis. Very diverse crowd of people that are all brought together by a common passion...great food. Service is great. People are friendly. There will be a line but it moves fairly quick and is so worth it. CASH ONLY. Enjoy.

I'm a born Memphian, but was raised a Cali girl. This place reminds me why there's no place like home. I liked this place so much, I went back the following day to try something different. The first day I had the pancakes with a side of eggs and bacon. Can you say AMAZING!! Better than IHOP (and in my opinion, Waffle House)!. Now, I will say that you have to season your food because they don't. They cook everything plain, which is probably why other reviews say the food is bland. But honestly, there wasn't anything that the salt and pepper shakers at the table couldn't fix. The second day I went, I had the hamburger steak smothered in brown gravy and onions, white beans and ham and cabbage with the corn muffins and biscuits. I ate so much it hurt! It was that good. Again, salt and pepper was needed for the white beans and ham and cabbage, but once I added them, the dishes tasted homemade. On the downside, the line is long and they don't take plastic. However, even though the line is long, it does move fairly quickly. So that isn't too much of a hassle. And as for not accepting debit/credit cards, they do have a sign that tells you that there's an ATM at the gas station next door. So if you don't have cash when you first get there, don't panic. Just don't order without it. All in all, this is a good place to get great food. Enjoy!!

I like Bryant's well enough, but I never seem to eat there. The biscuits are good, but seem a little heavy compared to some of the light, fluffy Southern biscuits I've enjoyed elsewhere. The rest of the food is similarly decent -- I'd put it on par with Blue Plate, in that it's good, but nothing special. As others have mentioned, they are cash only, and you probably shouldn't bother trying to eat here at peak times, since the line extends well out the door. So if you're willing to wait a while and you want your food to go (since there's no chance of actually getting a seat), Bryant's isn't a bad option, but if you're looking for a leisurely sit-down meal...this ain't it.

My favorite place for a great, quick, and economical breakfast. I like the breakfast special with eggs over easy, country sausage, and double gravy (second gravy in lieu of grits). Always a line, but it moves fast. Know what you want when you get to the front of the line and bring cash (no credit cards or checks). Their biscuits are the best in town. The gravy is OK - could use to be cooked a little more to get rid of that hint of flour taste and more seasoning - however, nothing that a little hot sauce can't address.

Bryant's Breakfast is a Memphis institution and if you happen to make the mistake to roll up here on a Saturday Morning...you will be greeted with a somewhat ridiculous line. The line, however is not too bad on a weekday between the breakfast and lunch rush...so if you can swing that, it is a much better option for a visit. There are so many amazing breakfast options....the Biscuits....oh the biscuits!!!....So good (and huge) they make you wanna slap yo momma! The Ham is too die for!...the bacon is the way bacon should be...the sausage is so sausagey, the grits are nice and creamy....in short eating there seems like they have kidnapped multiple grandmothers tied them down in the back somewhere only allowing their freedom if they churn out a never ending stream of good old fashioned southern breakfast. The portions are out of control. Seriously....unless you are a teenage boy do not attempt to eat a whole sampler meal by yourself....you will be sorry. I do like that they have a sampler meal that pretty much has all their breakfast favorites in one place. Start with that if you are confused....you can't really go wrong. Or if you want a lighter (snicker....that doesn't really exist here) option go with a biscuit breakfast sandwich. And lets talk about the price. For the sheer amount of food you get...this place is cheap....like I am not sure how you stay in business cheap when you look at the portions. So in short. Try this awesome Memphis staple. You will NOT regret it!

Tie for best breakfast (that I had anyway) in Memphis. Loved the biscuits (my companions loved the gravy ... I don't eat gravy and didn't try it.) Meat was so-so ... Pancakes and cinnamon rolls were both pretty great. Having real maple syrup merits 4 stars in my book. Place was packed and quite busy. Coffee? It was average food service coffee ... Overall it was a great joint.

30 years of going to this place and still love it to this day. I remember the days when they had BBQ. I like the special scrambler most of all. Be prepared to share though. Sweet tea, grits, and gravy you cant ask for much more.

Great biscuits and the line moves pretty quickly! The go-to place for great breakfast. I always get the sausage and cheese biscuit- sometimes I add some egg. Bit everything is good and you won't go wrong with anything you order! :-)

It is a very crowded breakfast nook. The place is big but the crowd is bigger. Get in line, read the walls and windows and then place your order. No substitutions just add ons and most importantly. ..CASH ONLY. I had the everything omelet. It was good. The sawmill gravy was ok. Kinda had the consistency of saw dust. Biscuits were your normal run of the mill biscuits. Hash browns are those triangle potato cakes. Yeah is is a good place for breakfast, just nothing special.

Amazing breakfast, had the sampler and sit it with my wife. $8.00 and it was a feast of breakfast delicates. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

This is a tough one for me due to a difficult lunch experience I had there today, so I'll do my best to give a well rounded report. Bryants and I go way back. When I lived in Memphis 25 years ago it was a regular stop for me to get their sublime biscuits draped in savory country ham. I must have been here 100 times in my first round of living in Memphis. I left for long time and upon my return I was pleased to see that Bryants had survived. My first morning back I went and got my usual biscuits with ham, or bacon, or sausage and eggs. It was just as good as I remembered. The long lines move quickly even when they loop the restaurant and trail out the door...do not be discouraged. They have the most incredible biscuits I have ever eaten. Today I was cruising around looking for a place to have lunch. It dawned on me that I have never eaten lunch at Bryants....this is where it all went wrong. Not that their food was bad, it wasn't, it was OK...but just listen. I wanted something beefy so I ordered the Philly Cheese steak. The cashier attempted to clarify if I wanted the Philly biscuit or the Philly cheese steak sandwich that came with lettuce and tomato. It was suddenly clear to me that this wasn't a Philly Cheese steak as no Philly comes with these things...ever. So I decide to order the lunch special "chicken fried steak" instead with a side of Lima beans and turnip greens. I took my first bite and it was chicken. I flagged the waitress down and explained that they accidentally made chicken fried chicken instead of the steak I ordered. She explained "No...that's steak". I said "no this is clearly chicken" she responded "Thats how we make our chicken fried steak". I'm sorry.....but chicken is chicken and steak is steak. How does a restaurant think they can call something one thing and just serve something else? I then went to the manager who also agreed...."yes, that chicken is our chicken fried steak"..in a way that conveyed that I was just stupid for expecting something else. I was baffled...I felt like I was in the twilight zone. Ok...whatever, apparently Bryant never learned about the different types of farm animals. This being said the Chicken Fried CHICKEN was ok. The Lima beans were passable, the greens were absolutely delicious and the biscuit made my toes curl and my eyes roll back in my head. So long story short....assume nothing here. Ask them to describe what it is you are ordering even if it seems obvious, with exception of the country ham and biscuits...they are exactly what you expect, incredible deliciousness.

If you are looking for a classic big Southern breakfast, than Bryant's Breakfast is your place. They serve up a hardy breakfast that's quick and delicious. You can get your fix, getting a variety of meats, eggs (done to order), and of course, the biscuits. Also, try one of the cinnamon rolls. They're even better when they're heated up. Definitely worth waking up for. A couple of pieces of advice: 1.) They are cash only, so be sure to bring some. 2.) There's usually a line, which if you've ever eaten there, you understand why. Don't worry, it moves fast.
