After a long day of lounging (and burning) on the lake, a group of 4 of us headed over to The Crown and Goose for dinner and drinks. I was really looking forward to the beer, but was a little disappointed by the list - I guess I was expecting a few more exotic beers. The only beers I hadn't had before were their "signature" beers - Directors Bitter, Royal Stout, and the London IPA. But we all ordered one so I got to try them all - and all are great! All of the food sounded really good, but we were kind of full so we skipped appetizers - even though the deviled eggs with crab sound amazing! Everything we ordered was awesome - Whil had the shepherd's pie and said it was the best ever (and that's saying a lot for Whil). H and I had the pan-seared salmon (special) and I really had to restrain myself from licking the bowl afterwards. J had fish and chips and was kind enough to spread the (chips) love. I think the atmosphere of the place was pretty good, although I must admit that my brain was a little fried from all the sun. I'm looking forward to heading back to enjoy the patio...and the fish and chips!

Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Food was good. Domestic cheese tray was very good. Service was good as well. Entire evening was ruined due to the fact that I made the mistake of parking across in a Central Parking System lot where my car was booted at a cost of $75. Would have appreciated the warning from the restaurant especially when I discover that they have their own designated parking.

Some of the best food in Knoxville if you are willing to spend a little more money. The seasonal menus items keep it an interesting place to go to year round, while the classic favorites like the Fish and Chips are unique enough to set it apart from the rest. Only negatives are the portion sizes can be a little on the small side and the prices make it so that dinner is a special occasion, at least on my salary.

This was my first time enjoying the pub atmosphere at this emporium. I felt comfortable in casual clothing but was treated by the staff as if I were better dressed. First of all, we were a difficult bunch, as we all showed at various times, then wished to await everyone before ordering. The first three of us got the pimento cheese hushpuppies. They were warm and crunchy with a soft, mushy cheese interior. Just a touch of heat, but nothing off-putting. My young bride enjoyed her sangria so much that she ordered a second, assuring that I would be driving home. I had the smoked duck breast with kimchi, carrots and duck confit. Cooked perfectly, it was tender, dark and just fatty enough. The parsnip puree was sweet and complemented the meat very well. I would happily bulldoze others for the kimchi. My young bride had the wedge salad and added shrimp ($8 extra). She sez the balsamic onions were not to her liking, but the homemade 1000 Island was spot on, as were the bleu cheese crumbles. The big complaint was that two of the four shrimp had been sliced, but not properly de-veined. Ick! She corrected the problem herself, but the mental issue still lingers. While the meal was pricey, that is something we understood beforehand. the four-year-old in our party was treated to special servings at our request. Food - mostly really good; service - better.

This place has potential, and the atmosphere is cool, but the food was mediocre at best not to mention pricey, and the service was slow. One of the people at my table had a hair in their food, another had their fish smell like bleach and another has sausage too spicy to eat. My steak sandwich was kind of gross looking and too fatty for my taste. To their credit, they comped two meals and gave free dessert to the plate with the hair in it. Also our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. I would definitely be ok coming here for drinks, but never again for dinner.

Came here before a little acoustic show. We decided we wanted to try as many places as we could in each state or town before we move! I'm not going to rate it fully on food since we only got the meat cheese tray. It wasnt the best we have ever had and it wasn't the worst we have ender ate. .. I'll probably just go with cheese and cheese only next time. We found out that we are not a fan of the meat selections that go on meat/cheese trays. Haha That's okay you have to learn some how. The arrangement was pretty. I think it was lacking something tho. I still enjoyed it and we ate everything..but the last part of the meat. Ha We did have a pleasent server named Jessica. I had a Sawworks Basil saison beer. Yummy! She let me try it before hand. Thanks girl (; They triva by surprise! We didn't play but we joined along in guessing for ourselves. Cool spot nice decore. Beer garden next to it. Pretty large place. Nice wrap around bar. Love the name! Definitely check this place out!

I have been on a mission to find the best burger in Knoxville. After a suggestion from a wonderful yelper named Tara (I am forever in your debt), I decided to give Crown and Goose a go at the title. I often find myself here for brunch (seriously, who can get past those sweet little vixens they call Danish Ebelskivers?!), but I often forget that their dinner menu is outstanding. We started our meal of with their Pimento Cheese and Bentons Bacon Hushpuppies. Dear Pimento Cheese and Bentons Bacon Hushpuppies, I think I love you. Sincerely, Erika. Crispy on the outside, gooey and bacony on the inside. The chili sauce they are served in is the perfect compliment with a bite. You're probably doing it wrong if you forget to order these! I ordered the burger with Red Dragon (Brown ale and mustard seed cheese), fresh jalapeños, and caramelized onions. It was served on a soft potato roll and cooked to perfection. Normally, I am disappointed by the lack of seasoning and flavor in the burger itself, but this was not the case. The only thing that didn't shine to a 5 star rating was the potato planks that were served with the burger. They were pretty good, but you could tell that they had been cooked earlier and just heated up as ordered. That was a bummer, but not enough to outshine the meal. Our server was friendly and snarky...just the way that I like them. You know you have a good server when your glass is never empty and you want to invite them to come sit at your table with you! All in all, I'd say, without doubt, that Crown & Goose is a stronger contender for the best burger in Knoxville. Yeah, I said it. And what?!

This place is perfectly fine if you are wanting a glass of wine and a pretty decent cheese plate. They have a pretty legit patio and some delicious appetizers such as the pimento cheese and bacon fritters. I have been here a couple of times for lunch and it is a fine option (half soup/sand/etc). I never have good luck here, the entrees are usually off or the service is lacking so I almost never choose C&G for dinner outings. For the price, I would expect a little better.

This place is a refreshing break from the Downtown Hipster Vortex. Of course I've only had lunch at Crown & Goose so I can't vouch for a Hipster-Free evening experience. For all I know they could be tending to their urban chicken "farm" (of 4 chickens) during the late lunch/early afternoon time. That being said, this is a fine establishment. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. The staff is very professional (efficient, friendly and no overkill). Very clean place. They have a very nice selection of beers, wines and small batch bourbons (as well as a full bar). The food is great. The CBLT Chicken sandwich is fanF*$#intastic!! Burgers are great. Although, I'm not a big fan of the potato planks that come with the burger. I do like the chips. They are very thin and perfectly cooked fries (chips). Tried the fish & chips. These are tongue slappers!!! They don't do the traditional beer batter. I love fish & chips but I often steer away because of the beer batter. Don't get me wrong, I like beer batter. But, it's a sticky wicket. It can end up being soggy and greasy in a short amount of time or improperly cooked. Beer batter also leaves me feeling like I ate a spare tire sized qualude. Zzzzzzzzzz. Crown & Goose has a unique approach to fish & chips. Their fish has a panko crust. It's super crispy and not greasy. Man, they are really good!! As a side note, the side of slaw is very well done. I often leave slaw untouched. Tried their's and ate the whole deal. Kayla was my barkeep. She is a delightful server. She has a great personality (genuine without bullshit and flair). She is also pleasantly well versed in the small batch bourbons. Make sure to ask for some Tennessee Jim's hot sauce to make your meal 2 Thumbs Up! The guy uses a salt brine fermentation process and grows his own peppers. True genius. Go for the Trinidad Scorpion. Just don't rub your eyes!!! Great place to unwind, have a drink, a bite and mind your own business.

I have gone back and forth with C & G for several years but for a while now it has been consistently good. It is a comfortable spot; I prefer to sit at the bar or out in the courtyard (weather permitting). They have a really good happy hour, albeit short ( I think it ends at 6 p.m.) with wine, drafts, and snacks. The dinner menu is at least partially seasonal, with changes to entrée features several times a year. There's always a good risotto or gnocchi or pasta dish as well .Some classics on the menu are the burger (really delicious - get with Red Dragon cheese and fresh jalapenos), the bangers and mash, fish & chips, San Marzano tomato soup w/ Brie grilled cheese. They also have lunch & brunch options like a turkey avocado club, Croque Monsieur, and ebelskiever. They have DELICIOUS salads as well; the Kensington Garden is the best with roasted eggplant, portabellas, and goat cheese. As for small plates: the pimento cheese hushpuppies, chicken wings, and mozzarella croquettes are all really good. I take issue you with their cheese board and refuse to get it. While they have a good selection, the portions are ENTIRELY too small - and I realize they aren't going to be huge, but these are cheese's I'm familiar with, familiar with the price of, and see on other cheese plates in town at a larger portion for the price (or just lower the price on your current). I love that they have fresh oysters, and always look forward to mussels on their menu.

I have never been able to understand why so many of my friends love this place. The drinks are average bar fare and the food is too pricey to be just okay. It gets very noisy when they're busy. I have yet to find someone on the wait staff who is friendly or attentive. They do have a nice patio area to the side and back of the restaurant (when weather permits), but even that doesn't seem to make up for the run-of-the-mill experience I've had every time I've been there.

I tried this place on my weekend in Knoxville and came away impressed. I ordered some pimento cheese hush puppies which were just amazing and were a great plate to go along with the milk stout that was recommended by the bar staff. I would like to try the brunch menu next time I'm in town but even utilizing the bar functions left me with a good impression.

The best cheese and charcuterie plate in town! Hands down. Jazz bands on weekends and try the pimento cheese sandwich for brunch on a Sunday.

I never have any luck with this place. The beer, wine and cocktails are great. No problem there. Everything on the menu looks great and I always try to order something that I've never had. When the food arrives, it always lacks for a number of reasons. Either the fries, excuse me, "chips" were soggy and cold or the burger was cooked waaaay under or over or something was just "meh". I would stick with the cheese plates and the appetizers. Never had a problem with those.

Dinner Folks this is NOT, I repeat NOT your typical Pub food! When they say this is a Gastropub - the emphasis is on gastro! I was dining with a friend who was born and raised in Jolly Ole England. Instead of us each ordering 1 entree, we decided to split a few dishes and taste as much of the menu as we could Appetizers: 1) Chicken Wings - crispy fried to perfection and in a great local hot sauce! 2) Bangers and Mash - we all know a Banger is English speak for sausage. but did you know that like a Polish or Italian Sausage an English Sausage (Banger) is a specific type blend of meats? My friend hasn't found a single place in the "Colonies" to buy a proper Banger, he ate this one and fell off his chair. We asked the waiter where they got them at..the answer? They made them in house - home made sausage - who does that!!! WOW! and the onion gravy you ask? Spot on! 3) Fried Oysters Rockefeller - I don't eat Oysters, but with the chorizo and spinach mixture into with the Oyster - it was very very tasty! Entree: 1) Signature Fish & Chips - BUT, we had them beer batter them (like the sandwich) and not fry them in Panko.. They were as good as any chip house in Manchester I was told! Will I go back? YES - every time I am in Knoxville!!! Goal is to try every time on the menu! Any restaurant that takes this much time to prepare food and do it right, will always get my dollar! Well done lads and UTC !

I love the cheeseboards, tomato soup, Dublin steak sandwich. And I recently tried the steak which was delicious. Everything I've ever had here was amazing and the atmosphere is better than almost anything else in the old city.

The Crown and Goose was great as per usual. We tried the hush puppies. Hello, new besties! The burger was great tried it with red dragon cheese, stop the bus! The planks were a new twist, but a spicy nicety. Our waitress was Uber friendly and fun to chat with. She was knowledgeable about the menu and specials. Good crowd for a Thursday night.

Went in around 4:30, initially sat outside but after 10 mins and no service, decided to go into the bar. We were immediately served a beverage and then nothing. No one ever came back by to ask if we wanted to order any food. After that we decided it was time to go.

Updated review. I haven't been here in a while since they pretty much had no vegetarian options (other than salads) on their menu. And according to the waitress during my last visit, they could not alter their menu accordingly. I had to go for a friends birthday last night and was pleasantly surprised to find that they now have one vegetarian entree. The English pea risotto, which was absolutely delicious. They also let me get the deviled eggs without the crab filling. We had a big group and service was impeccable. Everybody else enjoyed their meals, lots of clean plates at the end of dinner. I think this is a great restaurants. They have their menu online so non meat eating folks should check it out before heading down (their menu varies often). I will continue to eat here as long as i can avoid meat in their dishes.

I was in Knoxville for a conference and stopped in for a quick bite after a long drive. It is a nice old building with a good size bar. It was fairly crowded for a Monday evening, but I didn't have any trouble finding a seat. They have a decent draught beer menu, probably 20 or so with a handful of local (TN & NC) beers including: Highland, Saw Works, and Catawba. I started with Maryland Blue Crab Deviled Eggs - Lump crab, capers, scallions ($5 for an order of 3). They were OK. I understand some items in a restaurant are pre-made, but these came out within 1 min or ordering... this was strange. I ordered the Grilled Bangers & Mash for my entree. English sausages, mashers, onion gravy, spicy mustard ($16.00). The positive note was the serving size relative to price. This is a large portion of mashers smothered in gravy with 3 good size sausages... way more than I could eat. I am from Cincinnati or Porkoplois, and we have numerous butchers shops that make a wide range of handmade sausages daily. The English sausages reminded me of a pre-made sausage... i don't think the were handmade fresh daily. Overall, it's a decent place I might have just ordered the wrong thing this particular evening. I would give it another chance, based on the positive reviews, once I am back in Knoxville.

Went to the Goose to watch the USA vs Germany World Cup match. What a atmosphere! Super friendly staff, the food was great. I had the fish and chips. The place was crowded and I was amazed that the waiter was able to keep up.

We stopped here on a road trip. We had been driving for hours and didn't want the normal fast food. After seeing the "gastro pub" advertisement and variety of beer, we were intrigued. Unfortunately we were very disappointed in our experience. To start off, we were greeted at the door and I complimented the decor to which the response was "glad you like it, I hate it. It's like Santa threw up...look at those creepy reindeer. I'm over it." The service was TERRIBLE. After getting our water, we waited 20 mins before having to call the waiter over to order a beer. After the beer was delivered to the table we waited another 15 mins before we had to call the waiter over to get our food order. The food came out hot, but nothing special. The bread on my grilled Brie sandwich was soaked with butter and the tomato soup tasted like it came out of a can. Half way through our meal we realized our water had been empty and we hadn't been checked on (mind you this was 3:30 in the afternoon so it wasn't busy). My brother wanted another beer before we left ... But at this point we were so pissed we just got the waiters attention to get our check so we could leave. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. There was an aire of sophistication and the ambience was nice, but a complete lack of culinary ingenuity that one would expect from a gastro pub. And the service needs MUCH to be desired.

Very good experience. I had a burger, fries, and few beers and amazed at how good the burger was. I went in with high hopes and was not disappointed. The staff was ok, although mostly college kids who spent too much time talking with each other. I didn't mind though, at least they weren't talking to me. They did keep the glasses full for the most part. I also ordered every desert on the menu and loved them all.

While the pimento cheese and Benton's bacon hush puppies were good, my charcuterie tray was disappointing. Another in the positive column, the ginger bite of the Orange Moscow Mule was refreshing. Service was above average.

  • Martín G.

The beer was great, but I ordered the fish and chips and the fish had no taste at all. That is the problem with Panko breading. It has great texture, but no taste, unless you season it. The fish looked as if it was taken out of a frozen dinner plate. The server did not even notice the plate I ordered was untouched. Spent $37 there for a sub-par meal. You are better off if you just stick to the drinks, or go to a place where you can enjoy good food and good drink together.

Poor service and semi-decent food. We waited 30 minutes for an appetizer and 35 minutes for our food. When our food hit the table after our wait, the $30 lamb was way over-cooked. When the manager took the lamb off our bill we chose not to wait for a recook. The server was apathetic and when we left we saw her sitting on the other side at a table. It took 25 minutes just to get our bill. We will not be returning.

Do not seat yourself here! No matter how empty. No matter if the hostess is AWOL. If you seat yourself they will give you an earful of their unreasonably strict seating policy. If there's one thing I hate it's an establishment that are hard asses for the rules.

Relatively new to Knoxville (6 months), my wife and I have determined to see and experience as much as possible so as to assess the merits of each venue for when guests visit us. I am happy to report that Crown & Goose will be at the top of our GASTROMAND LIST as a place where visitors MUST go. After a fun afternoon of river cruising and walking, we decided to visit the Old City. Having heard much about the Crown & Goose, we decided to try it out. Having traveled to and stayed in and around London four times in the past 15 years, we've come to have an idea of how an English Pub should look and feel. The Crown & Goose is well-situated in the Old City, surrounded by architectural relics of the past. There are three separate dining areas at the C&G, including a relatively new part called the Underground that looks like an Underground station, a beer garden and the two main dining areas joined by a central bar. Dark wood trim accents the brick and mortar walls, with pressed tin ceiling tiles. A few aspects of traditional pub life are noticeably absent (for which we are greatly relieved) and that is cigarettes, and dingy loos. Thank God! We had Maryland blue crab sandwiches and a tower salad. The meal came with fries which ARE NOT the traditional thick cut proper chips, but they were tasty nonetheless with a great crunch. The crab was tasty and I don't know where they found the tomatoes for this sandwich, but they were outstanding. We topped the meal off with Sticky Toffee Pudding that was a bit o' heaven on earth. The menu has two Ploughman's lunch selections as well as enough small plates to order and graze on for an hour or so while watching the foot traffic outside in this quaint part of Old Knoxville.

Some girlfriends and I discovered this place via radio ad while sitting in traffic on the way out of Gatlinburg, and loved it so much we were still talking about it a year later. Second visit was even better. I've ordered the Eggs Chesapeake (and a maple bacon bloody mary) both times, and have not been disappointed. Both the interior and the patio are great, and the service is top notch! This is definitely an annual stop, and I've considered taking day trips to Knoxville just to grab a meal here.

This place was pretty awesome but a touch pricey - about 12 good beers on tap and everything from traditional bangers and mash to a four type oyster sampler and sophisticated cheese plates. They also have one or two house brews as well. Oysters were good, probably a little too fancy for my appreciation. Mussels were solid with a nice white wine sauce. BUT, the whiskey marinated dublin steak sandwich and crab eggs benedict were BOTH AMAZING. But the steak sandwich was superbly filling and then some. You can have a cozy booth to chat or a table in front your favorite football game on Sunday morning. $3 bloody marys and mimosas!! Doesn't get any better.

Great food and good service. The only complaint was the portions were a little on the small side for the money. I had the ribeye with green beans and fried potatoes. It had this great balsamic reduction on it. I'll go back for sure.

This place fills a niche. Not very well, mind you, but the niche is indeed filled. It's a gastropub, which I guess means they serve drinks & overpriced bar food--now with salads! We went on a Thursday night after a symphony concert. It was not very busy, but it still took a really long time to get anyone to offer service. I ordered the Modesto Chili cocktail--it was fine, not spicy enough and far too sweet. We also ordered the fish & chips--if memory serves, it cost $14. Call me a purist, but if you are proclaiming yourself to be a British-y pub and you are NOT using a beer-batter on your fish, well--you blew it. Seriously--PANKO?? Lame. And I see no reason at all to fill up menu space touting the fact that it comes with homemade tartar sauce & homemade slaw--it damn well better, for $14. The portion was...let's just say "stingy"...and I'm being generous here. They have things like fois gras and oysters on the menu, which I suppose technically makes them a gastropub, but really--this place costs too much for what it is.

My husband and I went on our honeymoon in TN and since we landed in Knoxville we decided to spend a night there before heading to Gatlinburg and then into Nashville. Knoxville is a really nice little town with a lot of cool places to check out. Being from Baltimore, it was very quaint and we liked the college vibe going on. We were really hungry but willing to wait in order to find a good place for dinner. We asked someone at the airport for a suggestion and we got the impression she suggsted a chain type restaurant, which really isn't our favorite type of dining, especially on vacation. We want to find the good local places with interesting menus. The attendant at our hotel suggested The Crown and Goose in downtown Knoxville. We looked it up online and liked what we saw menu wise as well as the reviews. We were not disappointed. It was busy the night we arrived but we were able to be seated right away which was great. This was really our first "Tennessee experience" and we were really enjoying ourselves so far. Our waiter (whose name I wish I could remember) was amazing. He was so welcoming and friendly and excited to have us there once we told him we were on our honeymoon. We asked for suggestions from the menu and he gave us a great run down of their best dishes. We were in the mood for sandwiches or burgers and he told us about their burger being infused with bacon. And his description of the cheese was fabulous. We had the croquettes for our appetizer- delicious. He brought us a bread pudding unlike any I have ever had as a complimentary dessert. We also sampled some of their local beers. All in all it was a great experience and if we ever make it back to Knoxville, we are certainly returning to the Crown and Goose! Loved it.

Yummy food! They've changed the whole menu a few times since they opened, so some of my favorites have gone away, but the chef is always experimenting with new plates. A bit pricey, but worth it for the atmosphere and gastronomy. However, their signature drinks have been on a steady decline since they opened. New bartenders? I've been coming here for years, and each time, my drink experience is worse. I no longer come here for cocktails, just beer.

Fantastic brunch today! I came in with 2 friends, ordered a cheeseboard that was awesome! I ordered the brunch special of ribeye and eggs. The server, Hayden was extremely knowledgable about the food, he was fun and attentive. Brunch was yum yum!! After we ate, we hung out at the bar with a bunch of "regulars" who all seemed to love the bar tender, Kelly. She was fun, energetic and made some delicious bloody Mary's. The manager, Bryan, seemed to be well in time with his staff and guests. We will definitely be back!!! Best brunch ever!!! Oh and the scones were amazing!!!!

Well, they definitely have the English pub down! This is a pretty cool place to stop in and have a pint and some grub, but I wouldn't put it among the top places to eat in town. Quite a few beers on tap but I would like to have seen a list of what was on draught and in bottles. I settled on a Gaelic ale which was pretty crisp and malty. Their menu is interesting...there is the typical fish and chips and burgers, but then there's risotto and duck confit. Would you get a burger at a place with duck confit? Would you get risotto at a place that has burgers?? Kinda weird if you ask me. As much as I wanted the duck, I was a whimp and settled with the fish and chips, the fish was pretty good. It was fresh cod lightly fried and not super battered and greasy, which was nice. Quite pricey for most dishes but the small plates and appetizers had small portions for a reasonable price.

I cannot say enough good things about The Crown & Goose. I love that it manages to keep the relaxed pub feel, but provide much better than pub quality food. The staff is always fantastic and the food is even better. They always have a great selection of beer and cocktails. In my opinion the best food you can find in Knoxville.

WOW, I've been here on a couple of other occasions and have not been disappointed. However, last night I went down with a friend for dinner. Did I say WOW? Order the Pork Shank. Of course, only if you like pork cooked so well it practically falls off the bone. Great food, great service, oh and great tap beer. They have Boddington's on tap, I have never seen it on tap. Overall I couldn't have had a better meal or service. They also had a live band, Jazz basically. They were very good and we all had a great time.

Best Patio in Knoxvile by far!! The cheese plate is awesome. Take a stroll down to this place on an afternoon and reserve a patio table because the patio really is great! The draft beers are a bit pricey so order wisely. They have comfy sofas with open doors on a nice day close to the bar which is also a good place to sit. The Fish and Chips are good, but they are just fish and chips. The duck breast absolutely rocks! I had my first Shepard's Pie and I was not quite sure what to expect. It was good, but I don't think that particular dish is something I would typically order. I was not impressed with the wedge salad. It needed more blue cheese crumbles. The caesar salad was pretty good. They have pretty good happy hour specials. Check them out! I'm giving them four stars because they have an awesome patio! Otherwise they would get three stars.

I hadn't been here in 3-4 years after a run-in with a rude bartender. Went back in Feb '13 and was pleased. They seem to have deemphasized the bar aspect and are refocused on the restaurant. The menu was really impressive (duck confit was so tasty), the service was knowledgeable, prompt, and friendly, and the draft beer selection was great.

The menu for the Chimay Trappist Belgian Beer Dinner sounded so amazing, that myself and five friends couldn't resist. But when paying $35 for a special dinner in Knoxville, I expect it to be just that...special. Getting a reservation was awkward and difficult. The server/host seemed to have absolutely no idea what was going on. It took him ten minutes of walking too and from the bar to finally write down my name. He was very cold and unfriendly. I wondered if I even wanted to eat there. The first course was an appetizer of Belgian style mussles and frittes. The mussels were perfect. Not too strong of an ocean flavor with a great texture. The onions and sauce were a great compliment. The frittes were simple french fries. The smoothness of Chimay Premier Rouge made it a good pairing. The second course included Belgian style onion soup and a small grilled cheese sandwich. The soup was no different from a standard French onion except this one had no cheese. There was nothing particularly extraordinary about this soup. The sandwich was very small and prepared on focaccia bread. The cheese used was a delicious Chimay gruyere. Unfortunately, the beer pairing of Chimay White didn't seem like quite the right fit. It was a bit too hoppy and sweet. The third course was seared duck breast over baby arugula, spinach, and onion mashed potatoes. This dish was wonderful and the honey dijon mustard dressing helped all of the flavors combine perfectly. The arugula wasn't too bitter and the duck was seared to the ultimate medium rare. As instructed, we slowly sipped our Chimay Blue. It accompanied this dish and the Dolce Nero espresso liqueur chocolate mousse with ease. It was easy to understand why this is a top fermented Trappist beer. The thing that made this event altogether unenjoyable was the very loud band that was playing. Jen and Juice play cheesy cover songs like "Tears in Heaven", "Come to my window", and a version of "Brown Eyed Girl" that made us stare at each other as if to say "really? are you serious?". After a while, someone at our table wondered why they don't just play "Freebird". About 15 seconds later, the band started playing the intro. We started laughing but only because we were amused at the rediculousness of the situation. This was definitely not something we wanted at 6pm while attending a nice meal and straining to hear the National Chimay Representative. The food, beer, and server Scott made this a decent experience. I might attend next months beer dinner at The Crown and Goose...but let's hope there's no band, the start time is pushed back to 7pm, and the food portions are larger.

Bartender was awesome. I wanted to pick a beer with a local flair, something I couldn't get at home, and she was patient and quite instructive. European Cheese board was fabulous. I would suggest this pub. Give it a spin.

Really? This place shouldn't be able call themselves an English pub. No HP sauce? Was going to have the bangers, but without HP that just blows, so I ordered the fish & chips. It should have been called southern breaded white fish with skinny fries. No self respecting English pub would serve anything remotely like this. Total crap! If you've ever had real English food and were hoping to get something similar here, don't waste your time or your money.

Dined here twice last week, dinner for 4 (entrees and desserts only) with two alcoholic drinks $120. Lamb chops awesome but no mint sauce. Risotto with it - under-cooked sent back and credited. Clients rib eye perfectly cooked. Cocktails adequate but not strong. Second trip - oysters - good/more lamb chops -consistently awesome, fish and chips meh! Overall nice atmosphere, really great service but slightly overpriced. Will always re-visit when in Knox as I know they know how to cook meat.

Went here for dinner. Wow! Started w a large board of European cheeses. several varieties... brie, gouda, swiss, rougfort (sp?), along with a little bit of a jam/jelly, cranberries, walnuts, and this "oh my gosh" good bread. Oh So Good! The Bangers & Mash were awesome!! Sausages w mashed potatoes and gravy! The Sheppard's Pie was not your Mom's sheppard's pie. Different & Yummy! Interesting beer & wine list. Dessert: I had this Dark Chocolate cheesecake... 75% cocoa. Yummy!!! A bit on the bitter side, which is just fine w me, since I love dark chocolate!!! Husband & daughter had the Bread Pudding!!! A must try!!! We loved it all!!! Service. 5/5. always re-filling our drinks, and checking if we need anything else. nice. Atmosphere. 5/5. English pub/restaurant. nice. relaxed. we were here on a week nite, so not noisy. Food. 5/5. Definitely 5 stars!!!

When planning a dinner out in Knoxville, I came across The Crown & Goose website. I was intrigued by the beer garden, so off we went. I have to admit that I was shocked when we arrived because the restaurant was empty (Saturday night around 7 PM). We just shrugged it off and took our seats. The most disappointing thing about The Crown & Goose is the beer selection. They have less than 10 beers on tap! However, they do have quite a few interesting bottled beers and a list of unique drinks. I tried the French Martini--a little bland, weak, but a pretty color of pink. We started the meal with the Mezze plate (prosciutto, olives, chicken mousse, anchovies, spiced almonds, salmon, and bread). The sampler platter allowed us to sample quite a few different options. I don't know if I would have tried the chicken mousse otherwise. For dinner, I tried Gobble the Gobbler. The turkey was amazingly moist and delicious. The mashed potatoes were creamy and amazing, but the gravy was bland. There was only a single piece of bread in the sandwich, but we had ordered an extra side of bread to add to the sandwich. The bread was delicious! We brought some home and had it as an evening snack. We also had a side of asparagus, which was amazing! The asparagus was the perfectly cooked and the herb butter was the perfect accompaniment. Overall The Crown & Goose was a fun place to have dinner, but I probably won't go back for another meal.

Sometimes you stumble upon great things by chance. Great things such as the Beef and Guinness pie at The Crown & Goose. I took one bite and had to close my eyes in bliss. Everything was spot-on: the texture, the taste, the intensity. So great that I'm writing my very first Yelp review. My friend and I were driving back to North Carolina from Memphis and stopped here for the night. Unfortunately (or judging from other reviews, fortunately?) it was spring break and Old City was a ghost town. Looking for something light after a near fatal dose of Memphis ribs, we sought out the Night Owl and Old City Java, the former very much closed and the latter nearly so. So we settled on the Crown and Goose. Yes, even English Gastropub seemed like light fare after BBQ. Our Richard Armitage lookalike waiter was very attentive and gave us fries on the house. My friend ordered the Shepherd's Pie, which was also delicious. The grilled spinach was a tad too salty but that's what the beer is for! With most of the UTK students in Cancun/Daytona/South Padre, it was a quiet night so I can't really comment on the atmosphere. But I would definite go back if I lived closer. PS I forgot to mention, the pie was HUGE!

The food is AMAZING! If you know the Dallas area, it is comparable to The Londoner (not in atmosphere!). We ordered the fish n chips and they were definitely the best I've had. I also ordered the duck: very good, mashed potatoes were amazing. Service was pretty good, our waiter was very chill. We sat outside and were never neglected or low on drink; he also gave us good suggestions. I would only visit for the food though. I didn't find it to be a "fun" or "chill" place to have a drink. Everyone else at the place (a Thursday evening) looked like they just got off of their blue collar job. The bar only had 1 tv that I could see, so I was disappointed it wasn't much of a "futbol" place like The Londoner.

I've always enjoyed the Crown & Goose. It's really well done...though like most Knoxville restaurants it can't get it's lighting right. However, I can overlook the bright lights because the food and atmosphere is really good. I love the bangers and mash, the fish & chips, duck salad, and the Shepherd's Pie with grilled lamb chops! I love the location in the Old City...park, walk, dine, walk, and enjoy the night! They've got a great Beir garten for dining al fresco! And "soft seating" in the bar area with open doors to the sidewalk... overall there is a space for every taste and desired comfort. The Crown & Goose also does a great brunch on Sundays. They are working on opening a Speakeasy next door which I am really excited about! Keep the lighting low....it hides any flaws and makes everything and everyone look better!! Cheers to great places to dine and hang out in K-town!

A group I was a part of reserved a table for the New Year's dinner. Apparently in the past there have only been two settings for New Year's Eve. This year they got greedy and set three. The result was our table was over 30 minutes behind when we got there and the staff hassled us about switching to another table that was not reserved and the people were not even there (nor did they ever show). When we finally were seated, the service was horrendous. I expect this type of terrible service (waiter comes by every half hour or more) in a large city like DC or NYC, but not in Knoxville. My food in particular was consistently late (as opposed ot the others at the table) in arriving. The waiter also failed to take away plates, etc. in a timely fashion. Overall, the service was slow and completely unacceptable. What's more, the check included a mandatory 20% gratuity whichwas not earned in the least. The food was ok at best. The quail appetizer as well as the tuna were good. The entree of Beef Wellington didn't do much for me. I was told that some of the other entrees (lobster and duck) were good. Apparently, I got the bad draw. Overall, the food was average. My complaints would be much more tempered were it not for the fact that this was a special reservation, New Year's Eve dinner. Moreover, the price with the mandatory tip was $230. If I'm paying this much for dinner, I expect more than average food and below average service. I won't say that the C & G is not a good place to go ever. Nonetheless, I would highly discourage anyone from making a special reservation for a holiday meal if and until they get their act together. I will not again be paying over $200 for such a lousy event.

Great service at the bar. The tender was a fellow navy man so we shot the bs for a while! Anywhere that offers smithwicks is a ok with me. The food was pretty good but to be honest I was more motivated by the beer on my occasion. Great atmosphere with the bar and beer garden! Truly unique for the knoxville area. For a couple of beer and a few appetizers it was only $20. I definitely will return and update when food is a bit more on the agenda!

I just moved to Knoxville, and this is the first real restaurant that my boyfriend I have been to in the new city (and in the Old City!). He had seen a billboard for it, but in his mind he had somehow renamed it "The Dog & Duck," so it took a little while to figure out what he was talking about. He claims it was an understandable mistake because he got the fowl part right... Still not sure how the crown became a dog... But back to the Crown & Goose. One of the best things at the Crown and Goose was the beer selection! A respectable, but not overwhelming variety of domestic and imported beers are available, and there is an outdoor Beer Garden. The signature Royal Stout is a great choice for anyone who's up for a dark beer. I also like that you could go here on a budget and order the classic dishes, or you could splurge with the "Proper Suppers." Some of the dishes were available in "pint size" plates, which provided about two bites' worth of food. Definitely not worth ordering those when there are already plenty of "small plates" to choose from on the menu. Overall, though, nothing bad about the place. Between the deviled eggs, fish and chips, and shepherd's pie, we were happy as a dog and a duck... or a goose with a crown? We're still working that one out. Give The Crown & Goose a try!

Good God, I love C+G/The Underground. Amazing food, amazing drinks, great service. I'm almost hesitant to place this review out of fear that it will attract even more hipsters to the their twice-weekly jazz or beautiful, spacious beer garden, but finding a seat anywhere is already a challenge. Bring it on, and may the best one win!

Crown & Goose is definitely overrated. The atmosphere is stuck up, and the food and beer selection is really not that great. There are numerous cheaper and more laid back bars. Our server was slow and not very friendly, and he did not care to take care of us very often. It was not particularly busy when we were there, so I expected better service. The spicy potato planks were essentially seasoned, thick-cut fries. They were not very flavorful, and they were very dry and mealy inside. Definitely nothing special. I would not recommend this establishment for grub or booze. Either head down to Fratsville (UT bar strip) or Market Square for some hipster-like bars. This English pub was not very satisfactory, in my opinion.

I would recommend C&G for all your fancy get togethers. Ambiance is wonderful, but not too stuffy. As a grad student, I've been there to air my grievances after finals. Ironically, I like their evening services better. Their crabcake appetizer is delicious, so is their shepherd's pie! But their brunch? The hour and half wait wasn't worth the eggs benedict (which were actually, slightly overcooked). Plus, the service was really bad (perhaps it's because I went the weekend after graduation). I might go at it again for brunch, but their evening specials are great -- and if you come at the right time, their decorations (e.g. Christmas) are just simply beautiful.

We visited on a Saturday night after a Vol's loss. Crowd was decent, and of mixed ages. Service, by Curtis, was great! The Invaders were playing British invasion rock and sounded good. My husband started off with an 18 year old scotch which he said was, "sweet and smoky with a hint of berry flavor." He thought it was worth treating himself at $20, but not something he'd do every day. Foodwise, we ordered the bangers and mash - some of the best we've had in a pub, and we've had a few; the cheese plate was a nice variety of cheeses along with fruit and nuts- yum! The best thing we ate was last, in my opinion... the chocolate pecan tart. A really good dark chocolate with just the right amount of sweetness, a pecan crust, and strawberries. Mmmm! (But I've been dieting.) The food and drink here wasn't in huge portions or bargain prices, but that isn't the point of a gastropub. Since we prefer to focus on quality rather than quantity, the Crown and Goose is a nice fit for us. Overall, we had a nice night out in Old City. I feel safe in Old City with my 6'3" hubby by my side. I don't think I'd visit by myself at night though. The college "polo/khakis and leggings/hooker heels" crowd mentioned in a previous review did start to show up as we were leaving around 10:30. I think the atmosphere was about to change, and it wasn't in a direction to my liking. Timing may be the key to getting what you're looking for in this pub.

I'm British, so while in town for work I was overjoyed when I heard there was a traditional British gastro pub in Knoxville. Real chips! Pudding and custard! Maybe if I was lucky they'd have Ribena! What transpired was an incredibly disappointing meal, not only in quality of food, but also the misrepresentation of the actual cuisine. I ordered the Crown and Goose English chips expecting nice thick cut proper chips, but what I got were string fries that appeared to come out of the freezer section at the local supermarket. The brussel sprouts were char broiled and burnt, and the fish that came with the chips looked more like something you find on a bun at McDonalds. The icing on the disappointment cake was being told they do whipped cream with the sticky toffee pudding because they "couldn't figure out how to make a good custard". Really? This is a gastro pub which would normally call for cutting edge culinary technology, and they can't make custard. Even I can make a good custard, and my culinary skills normally go no further than a bowl of cereal. All in all the experience was incredibly disappointing, and I definitely won't be recommending to colleagues when they pass through town. I advise you avoid it too - unless you're into overpriced mediocre faire advertised as traditional British grub.

Crown and Goose is one of the reasons why you might debate becoming a vegan. More specifically, the Bangers and Mash. Before I made the big change into becoming meat-free, I ordered them, ate them, and entered into taste heaven. They had all the flavour and spice of their English brethren, not Americanized in the slightest, really. The two others in my party both ordered the Shepherd's Pie, and were happy to report that it also kept the charm of the United Kingdom. In addition to this delicious food, the tea was criminally good. We dined here around Christmas time, and despite having a party taking place there shortly after our arrival, the staff happily seated us and didn't act like it was a hassle that we were there in any way. The price is pretty modest here as well, which is always a plus around the holidays! It was just a really good experience overall. To be truthful, I'm unaware if they have any vegan or vegetarian dishes, but if you love standard pub fare, you should give this place a try.

I dine at the Crown at least once a week. Their menu is consistently unique and almost always delivers. They claim to be a gastropub, but I would wager that their prices should be a little lower on some menu items for that to be true. I have had some unique hummus concoctions (made fresh daily) that are my all-time favorites (sun-dried tomatos with feta and slices of portabello). Their beer selection is a nice blend of local crafts and popular imports, though I've yet to see anyone pour anything resembling a perfect pint of Guinness. If you are dining in the Old City, this place is a must try. Be warned, they only do brunch on Sunday.

We have a group of six diners and only one thought their meal was good. The three and it was okay and two were unhappy. The waitress was abrupt and rude. Other employees were unfriendly none acted happy that we were patronizing this establishment. The bill for two of us was over $50.00. There are too many good restaurants with pleasant staff in Knoxville for us to return to the Crown and Goose.

On a recent trip to Knoxville, after exhausting all the sightseeing of Downtown (total time required: 15 minutes), my boyfriend and I decided to check out the Old City. Right away I was intrigued because I love "Old Towns" and "Old City"'s. The area was completely dead and since we both fancied a pint, we checked out The Crown & Goose. The most exciting aspect of the C&G were the prices, but I recognize that I'm from LA so my idea of what a beer should cost is highly inflated. Still, I was shocked: $3 for a pint-- and it wasn't even HAPPY HOUR?! I almost did a spit take when I saw the bill. Of course, I had to lean over and whisper to my boyfriend: "Did you see this? $3? In LA this would be double that!" and he just shook his head with that sly semi-Southern smile of his. Oh yes, we're not in LA anymore. Over all, I thought the beer and ambiance were great. I appreciate their efforts to make this look like a real British pub, and even though it borders on kitsch, it's still nice.

They have great food and they're in a cool downtown building that's near everything. If you don't already know, this place is English. They have awesome fish and chips and shepherds pie! This place seemed to get pretty crowded on the weekends so don't be surprised if you have to park a few blocks away.

Crown and Goose is one of my favorite spots in Knoxville. It's a nice change from the usual chain restaurants that Knoxville has been swamped with- C&G also has a nice casual and relaxed atmosphere. They offer some not so easily found brews and have a nice wine selection as well. We had dinner there last night and shared a cheese plate with our friends to start. I had the mussels and mozzarella appetizer plates as my entree (as suggested by our server). They were both very good. It's also nice that the appetizer plates come in 2 sizes My hubby enjoyed the fish and chips- a house favorite. We were all very pleased with the food, drinks and service. One tip, if you're visiting on a weekend, reservations are a must. We arrived around 7PM and it was already filling up. I have read other comments about the menu pricing and all I can say to that is that I completely disagree. I have been to many other higher-priced establishments in K'ville and the food is not as half as good. We will definitely be back.

We went while in Knoxville visiting my girlfriend's mother and step-dad. They had been before and suggested we go for dinner on the Saturday night we were in town. The place was very busy at 7 pm so it's a good thing we had reservations. I'm a big fan of English/Irish pubs and this one did not disappoint. The service was very good, the food tasty and served promptly despite the crowd and the bar stocked two beers on tap made especially for them - and IPA and a Stout. The Stout was excellent and 2 20 oz Imperial Pints quickly disappeared down the gullet. The IPA was not the American IPA with its face melting bitterness most of us are used to. It's far more balanced and would probably disappoint a true hop-head. I had the bangers and mash (my benchmark meal for an English pub) plus an add on roasted acorn squash. Also served to the table were traditional fish and chips and shepard's pie with two add on lamb chops. my bangers were delicious being cooked perfectly and with drizzle of spicy mustard. The acorn squash was a little bland w/o the traditional cinnamon/brown sugar dreg. In my opinion, the fish and chips were hit and miss. The flavor of the fish was good but I was surprised at the small serving sizes. I guess I've grown used to large fillets when it comes to fish and chips. Also, in a nod to current style, the chips (i.e. french fries to Americans) were cut in very slender slices and served in those ice cream cone looking racks that are so popular. I think the tastiest thing on the table was the shepard's pie. It was one of the better ones I can remember having. Unfortunately, the lamb chops were served quite rare when the order was for medium. The server and kitchen quickly replaced them with the right temperature however. Menu prices for dinner range mostly in the $10 -$20 area. Earlier in the day we had turned our hosts onto Restaurant.com and were able to get a $25 gift certificate for just 2 bucks! All-in-all, especially with the $25 savings, I enjoyed our visit and would return on future trip. They apparently have a beer garden/patio available during the warm season and I could see myself relaxing there some summer afternoon.

I live in Chicago and recently took a trip to visit friends and family at the University of Tennessee. I was SO pleasantly surprised by The Crown & Goose that I had to Yelp! We went to dinner with a large group on a Friday night and were able to sit in the beer garden without having to wait. The food was fantastic, highlights include: 1. The Fish & Chips are not just your standard Fish & Chips. The breading is extra crunchy and delicious, while the fish was perfectly cooked and flaky. 2. The Pork Osso Bucco was so tender and just fell apart as you ate it. And - the creamy risotto served with it was cooked perfectly and was a perfect addition to the pork. 3. Fries were great! 4. One of my fellow diners said the Steak Sandwich was top notch as well. We stayed outside, however inside was packed with a lot of great energy. There was even an "English Invasion" cover-band playing live music. If you are in Knoxville, TN - this place is not to be missed!

This is everything it says it is: a British gastropub. They have a nice cheese selection and good British dishes. The beer selection was also great. You really do feel like you are in England. I have been their twice, but the only thing stopping me from going more regularly is the cost. But, when I can afford it, it is well worth going.

I really like this place! The food is awesome, and it is something totally different than Knoxville's usual food options. The decor is very pretty, the patio outside rocks, and the service has always been pretty good for us. My favorite items on the menu are the cheese plates, the welsh rabbit, and the fish and chips. MMmmmm!!! This place is a little expensive and the happy hour prices are more what I would like to pay on a regular basis! I seem to remember their beer prices being on par with Southern California's beer prices. (Beer on tap seems to be soooo much cheaper in the South!) I advise to try to stay away from the side furthest from the patio if you are on a date that you want to speak to the person you are with! That side has a lot of lounge seating and a bunch of people doing the bar thing, so it gets louder. Also, don't let them seat you on that side against the window. There is a second door over there and tons of people want to use it, which is annoying during your meal. Stars knocked off for the pricing and because I hate the type of crowd in the Old City that frequents this bar as they hop from one to another on the weekends.

My husband and I were here for the first time to have brunch this past Sunday. It was busy, which was expected, they take your name and text you when your table is ready, which was convenient. We are simple and went with the safe option of waffles and pancakes, they were delicious, yet pricey. The mimosas were wonderful, as we're the Bloody Mary's. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the service, it was decent but we were charged for a mimosa that we had accidentally spilled everywhere without drinking a sip, oops. We didn't complain though. Would recommend for the drink specials, we will sit at the bar next time. :)

I really liked this place. Being from Boston, i was blown away by how cheap the drinks were here. It must have been a happy hour, but we had i think 4 good beers total plus a glass of high end whiskey for like $16. They have a modest but nice beer selection, and the room is just really pleasant. We were there in early September and the place was totally airy and comfortable. The bartender was knowledgable and friendly. I didn't try the food, I had already eaten elsewhere, and we were seated at the bar so i didnt get a good look at anything anybody else was eating. but for drinking, this place is great.

My previous two experiences at Crown and Goose had been lunches when it was uncrowded, and I would have given it a 4. This time, however, was pretty ridiculous. We wanted to hear music, so on a Saturday night five of us sat in the Underground section of Crown and Goose. Advertised as a separate venue, it is really just another room of the same restaurant with self-seating, a limited menu and limited drink selection, and crappier service. Apparently there were two servers for the section, but we only ever saw one. We all ordered a drink (after we finally got the server's attention). After waiting 30 minutes, we finally flagged her down to order our food... a small order which just consisted of a dozen oyster platter and one sandwich. Not too complicated or crazy. Forty-five minutes later, they brought the sandwich out, but it was the wrong one (which, instead of apologizing, she pretended it was for a different table and whisked it away). By the time we realized that it was meant for us, we would have just taken the erroneous sandwich but she was gone! Once we FINALLY got the proper food, we had to ask her for table settings, crackers and forks for the oysters, etc. Eventually my friend just went and found some from another table. One of my friends is allergic to shellfish, which is mostly the menu at the Underground. The C&G wouldn't let us order from the main menu, so since the service was so bad anyways we asked if we could put in for a table in the main section. Once that was ready, we literally carried over the food we already had into the main C&G. The service there was much better. The waiter was attentive (apparently there was a fiasco back-up in the kitchen) and although he said it could take 45 minutes, he brought us our food much quicker. Apparently, the kitchen was out of 4 or 5 entrees as well... strange for 8 PM on a Saturday? I think we preferred the ambiance in there more too. Food: mixed reviews. Fried oyster Po'Boy... decent. Sausage of the day: good. Oysters: kind of wimpy looking. Bloody Mary: disgusting. Prices: definitely too high for what we got. I might try this place for lunch again, but I don't plan to ever go back for dinner, especially to the Underground.

A typical Friday-night conversation at home: Me: "How about the Goose for dinner?" Her: "Pass. It's after 6:00pm. I don't want to get killed." Me: "Old City isn't that bad. We won't get killed." Her: "Fine. I don't want to get peed on." Me: "Agreed. Let's head towards Bearden and see what looks good." If you're still undeterred at the prospect of heading into Old City for dinner, then read on! The Crown & Goose has a lot going for it. Decent draft beers, a pretty extensive menu of traditional English pub food with a gastropub twist, and a nice outdoor patio / beer garden. They serve a nice Sunday brunch and the atmosphere is above average for a "pub." Food is a little on the expensive side for what you get. If you can hit the Goose for happy hour, that's the best way to try a variety of beers and foods from the bar and decide what tickles your fancy. I'm partial to the fish nibbles. Service is hit or miss. It's really just a luck of the draw kind of thing. You might get someone who's really on the ball and attentive or you might get the resident ghost. I can't comment on the late night scene - you're better off going with another Yelper's interpretation for that.

update: The service that I received last time was very mediocre and at times, rude. The hostess greeted us by saying, "Can I help you?" with the tone of someone offended by our entrance, rather than the traditional, "Would you like outside or inside seating?". Whatever. The waiter didn't bother to tell us the specials until we asked and then he said he didn't know what they were. He seemed bored. The food wasn't so amazing either this time. The grilled cheese sandwich was a bit stale. The soup was fine, but there wasn't much there. Hmmmm. Too bad, cause I really like the little beer garden. When you go out to eat, you are paying for service, not just food, right? old review: Great outdoor seating - like a mini bier-garten. Try the desserts, because they are scrumptious. Not much for vegetarians except cheese-laden options, but the cheese is very good and I love it with a tomato bisque. I've been here several times and the only time I had a bad experience was with the weekend brunch, as my food (pancake like balls) was undercooked and therefore the dough was still raw. Disgusting. Other than that, I enjoy the lively atmosphere while I drink a "Lady Guinevere" with my friends.

Pretty big fan of the Crown and Goose. Every time I've been here it's been great. I've sat in the comfy lounge chairs and on the patio and seriously have no complaints as to the locale. The crowd, however, can be obnoxious. If you're not a fan of the frat boy/college airhead scene then be sure to heed this warning--avoid this (and well, just about any place in Knoxville) on the late Friday and Saturday hours and you'll be okay. It gets crowded those nights and people are not there for the authentic British pub experience, but to get drunk. Seriously guys, there are cheaper places for you to throw your "my daddy just bought me this polo shirt and khakis/trashy, outdated leggings with hooker shoes" look around. Seriously. As for their food it's pretty fantastic. I've frequented a few British pubs and this probably has the most inventive menu and bar items. I love trying out new stuff here. Everything's been great. Service has also always been pretty awesome too. Eat, drink and be merry!

Lovely outdoor garden in the back where you can eat in nice weather. The food is very good. I've eaten a variety of things and loved them all. Inside the lounge area is a laid back (as is most of Knoxvegas) vibe, loud on busy nights and good for gathering with groups of friends.

Way over priced. $14 for 3 fish sticks and horrible cone of fries. The bacon in the salad was said to be Benton's but is not. The half sandwich with the salad was tiny. Service was adequate and indifferent. Would not go back.

Hung out here 3 times for the World Cup during a vacation to Knoxville. By far the best food I found in town. I especially recommend the cervice and deviled eggs. The folks who think this place is overpriced are crazy. You get what u pay for. I'd rather have delish food here for an extra 50 cents than the crap at most places any day. Service was friendly as well. Old Knoxville was charming and a joy to hang out in. No wonder we kept coming back. You have a real treasure here in Ktown.

TRUE ENGLISH PUB IN KNOXVILLE. I've been to England. I've seen the pubs, the nightlife, the drinks. This is the real stuff. I've heard the owners are from England so that explains why. The atmosphere is so wonderful- you get the overpowering in a good way, loud, boisterous pub at night and the best lunch spot in the day. It's not cramped or stuffy, but you have wide room to enjoy the food, drinks, and sometimes live music. Their patio is the best in Knoxville. Now on to the food. It is so good. I get the fish and chips every time, and with Bangers and Mash. They serve the "chips" in a little cone with a fake British newspaper in it. The food tastes fresh, always cooked to perfection, and exceeds most standards. The prices are high but worth it. I've heard the cheese platter is wonderful, too. You can't miss this place. I hope it becomes a staple of Knoxville... everyone loves it, young or old. The food is wonderful, as the atmosphere. Go here. Oh, and the bread pudding is TO DIE FOR.

I'm all for a pub Sunday brunch, but not at the Crown & Goose. Bloody Mary had way too much celery salt, hash potatoes were inedible - as in they had been sitting under a heat lamp the entire morning, and our waitress spent most of her time chatting with the two guys at the table next to ours. I liked the idea of fried green tomatoes instead of English muffin for eggs benedict, though the eggs were over cooked and they too seemed to suffer the ill influence of the kitchen warming lamp. Maybe a good place to go if you're still drunk from partying the night before - you may not notice how bad the food is.

Been here twice now. Reasonably priced "foodie" food in old town Knoxville. Laid back pub atmosphere, nice wait staff, and great specials. I'm especially fond of the cheap draft beers, which include a good mix of options from the colonies and the british isles. I've tried the venison sausage, the shepherds pie with lamb chops, and both were good. Actually, the shepherds pie was killer, as good as I've had anywhere. And the lamb chops were perfectly cooked and fairly generous as lamb chops go. For appetizers, I've had the tuna watermelon ceviche, deviled eggs, oysters, and probably a couple other things that weren't remarkable. The eggs were good if you like that kind of thing. The ceviche was a nice interpretation, as well. Overall, I really like this place. The only complaint I have is that I always want to order the entire menu when I go in there. Makes me wish I lived in Knoxville instead of just visiting a few times a year. Oh well.

Pretty good food with unique atmosphere that is great for downtown Knoxville. We were very disappointed that they would honor only one restaurant.com coupon per table (even know the couple that joined us had their own). The fine print on the coupons say "one coupon per party" and they said our "table" was a "party". Seems like they were looking at any little thing to get out of a discount and the management could care less about our interpretation. We won't be going back on that principle alone.

Visited the Crown and Goose for Sunday brunch. I don't know about the authentic aspect of the gastropub experience, but it was nice. We started with some drinks, a bloody mary and a poinsettia. The drinks were fine, my bloody mary was nice and spicy. We ordered Eggs benedict, with bacon and bangers. The eggs are served on fried green tomatos, with beef or crab. We had the crab. The sauce was nice, and the crab was good as well. The tomato, well, it wasn't memorable. The bacon came highly recommended, but it just didn't represent very well. The bangers were good breakfast sausages. They also have a patio area, which would be great for sunny weekend drinking. Overall, a good experience. I look forward to happy hours and dinners at the Crown and Goose.

Stuffy atmosphere and expensive... Brunch is by far their strong suit as well as their cheese plates.

This place may taste good, but they're totally disgusting. They made a 69 on their health inspection, which is lower than the KFC on Magnolia.

We visited a couple of weeks ago for Sunday Brunch. The place was quiet at 11:00 AM. Looked clean and the service was friendly. We both ordered the salmon on the baquette. What this consisted of was about six slices of toasted baguette with salmon on top. We also ordered the Danish apple pancakes. Again, they were finger food with maple syrup. For the price, portions were extremely light. I'd consider going back there for dinner or lunch or maybe order something different off the brunch menu. The experience was different, which is good around here.

So far this authentic London gastropub is my favorite place in Knoxville for a tasty dinner. My friend from DC came to town for the holiday weekend and we had an awesome dinner! Not a single misstep in the service or the food, and the food was perfect. We had the orzo mac & cheese, Shepherd's pie and grilled cheese and tomato bisque. BTW this is cheese heaven, between the cheese boards, cheese sandwiches, cheese orzo. I was especially impressed with the orzo's blending of manchego and stilton. My dining companion declared the Shepard's pie a top ten comfort food, and with its braised lamb and celeriac/Yukon topping I won't disagree. Of course I have to go back: I forgot to try dessert!

A great place to sit with friends, have a couple of pints of Guiness or the local brew, and lazily nosh on their yummy "gastropub" cuisine. Our table shared the Frenchman's Lunch cheese plate, crab cakes, deviled eggs, the Rocket Launcher Salad (with anchovies, yum!), and the fish and chips. Everything was good and reasonably priced, quick service and on a nice day, the patio was lovely. More friends came to join us, so we got hungry again and ordered the Royal Sampler of desserts. It includes the Whisky Soaked Craisin Bread Pudding. Hello!

Nice atmosphere and the cheese plate was tasty, but the beer selection was a bit lacking for an English pub. The outside is a nice place to sit.
