Do not waste your money or time. To start with you have to pay before you eat, which should have been my first warning. We had dinner which was $8.95 a person. The atmosphere was decent; they had many fish tanks inside. The waitress was very friendly, but paying first does not allow for appropriate tips unless you have cash. When you get to the food, it looks pretty typical, however most of the dishes are chicken. The I tried, and I unfortunately tried most of it, was food was bland and chewy. One of the beef dishes was very stringy and made my wife choke. There was almost no seafood inside the building. There were two types of shrimp and both were disgusting. This place could be good if it got fresh food, a new chef, and a good selection of seafood. In it's present state, stay away!!!

I haven't been here in years and now I remember why. A friend invited me to eat there with his family and it was absolutely disgusting!!!! The egg drop soup was a very dark color. As if it had sat for days and was pure grease. General tsos chicken was hard and rubbery. Crab Rangoon was rubbery and the cream cheese inside looked curdled. The chairs were sticky. I don't think they have been wiped down in years. I will never eat there again and do not recommend ever an attempt here!

Mandarin House claims to have been voted the best Chinese buffet in Knoxville for the last ten years or so. The Gleason Road location is the pits. The Pigeon Forge location was closed by US Immigration. The Hall's Crossroads location is first rate and this location is almost as good the Hall's location. Everything you expect from a Americanized Chinese buffet. Good service, decent food (even if not authentic), easy to find location.

This restaurant is now a "pay before you eat" buffet and for good reason. I for one felt the urge to leave before trying the subpar "cuisine." The food was warm but tasted like it had been there for several hours. I do not recommend the nasty dregs of refuge that this establishment provides

This and the other location, in West Knoxville, we're two of my favorite Chinese restaurants. Boy has that changed. The food was subpar, stale and warmed over. I have to say I was very disappointed and wonder how this could happen to a once fine establishment. No wonder they are now pay before you eat...

They take orders online through GrubHub, take your money and then refuse to honor them. Their excuse to me was "waiting on the fax to come." Can anybody explain why they'd be taking online orders with a fax machine? They refused to make it right, offer any help, or even an apology. When I complained to GrubHub they lied about the situation with the representative. The restaurant itself is poorly maintained, dirty, and ugly inside. My first experience was them pocketing my money and refusing my order. Find some other place and don't use GrubHub.

If I could rate this 0 stars I would. I bought a Groupon for this restaurant because I was staying in town from Louisiana with my husband and now I am laying in bed with stomach pain from food sickness. I should have known from the beginning when they made you pay before that the food was going to be awful and the Groupon was extremely misleading. I only ate three things off the buffet of about 50 options. first they didn't even have egg rolls which is my husband's favorite. secondly the items I did eat we're so over salted it burned my mouth. thirdly the food was cold like it had set in the pans for the last 5 hours or the steam trays did not work. we got up and left and went to the McDonalds across the street. I really hope they shut that place down. And I'm really upset that we wasted $15 on that crap.

How the mighty have fallen. As a kid and teenager I remember this being one of the better Asian buffets in Knoxville. Now it's nothing but a bunch of barely edible food at a cheap price. Only the desperate dare brave this gastronomic tragedy.

Pretty rough commentaries from previous yelpers need to be tempered a bit. OK. Here goes. After seven hours with the pack, we pulled over into the pet friendly Motel 6 for the night. Not wanting to deal with the whole sit down ritual, a self serve buffet sounded ideal: choice, portion control, and price. Oh, yes, decent taste also figured into the equation. All of these appeared. I enjoyed the pepper chicken, the home style tofu, wok cooked green beans, egg drop soup (one of the best), rice noodles, and more. We're these items noteworthy? No. Did I feel satisfied afterward? Yes. Oh, I forgot to mention that the salmon was moist and tender. The usual deserts (canned fruits and factory trans-fat pastries) and the ice cream machine awaited. Add to the mix the friendly chatty cashier, "Mike," and his off beat humor, and the locals rolling in and the whole thing made good sense. Like anything else, it is what it is: fast, average and to the point. Look elsewhere for cuisine. This is food.

I would rate it zero stars if I could.... This place used to be the best Chinese food in town, now I can barely classify it as food. We went in on a Friday evening at 5:30 PM. I should have known better than to go inside when the parking lot had 3 cars, but we did anyway because my sister-in-law is pregnant and had a craving. All the food was mushy from sitting in sauce on the hot bar for far too long. Nothing was fresh, and some of the food was purely disgusting. I seriously considered doing a chargeback on my credit card, but decided it wasn't worth the trouble. You can get much better food, cooked to order, from Panda Garden (a few miles away on Calahan Dr).

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
