I suspect I'm in the minority about Mama Mia but the food just wasn't very good. Ordered the rib eye (probably not good to get a steak at a pizza place) but steak was about 3\8 inch thick and ordered medium and got well done. Fried cheese ravioli was way over done. Meatballs looked and tasted like they were pureed meat with lots of filler. Service was very nice. Food was also surprisingly expensive.

Best Mediterranean in all of Knoxville!!!! Today we had the Mama Mia Special. All 3 meats were cooked perfectly and truly delicious. The sesame bread was extraordinary. We also got a large supreme pizza, mainly to take home to the kids. It too was amazing. The crust and sauce are both homemade, you can taste the freshness!!!

We ordered from them once. It worked out fine. This second time it took two hours for the food to get here. The problem is by that time the food was cold and basically garbage. We were unable to eat it and our dog wouldn't eat it. I called three times to get the food, after they were so late. I tried to eat some of it and it pretty much made me feel sick. We got some fried mushrooms and cheese sticks. Those things aren't good when they are cold. I asked for a refund. I'll never get it. But that's fine. I could have cooked the meal on my own for the time and money that we spent and it would have been warm. I am so disappointed. We waited two hours and spent that money. I could have just opened a can of 99 cent can of ravioli and would've been much happier.

I'm shocked this place has so few stars. This is by far one of my favorite places to get Mediterranean food in knoxville. Their hummus and baba ganoudh are delicious and their amazing bread has always been fresh out of the oven. (It's unlike any bread you've ever had!)

The best gyro in Knoxville!!!! Portions are large also. Awesome service! Been eating there several times a week since I discovered this place. Got my family addicted also.

Always my first stop in Knoxville. The food is the star although the staff are also extremely kind and helpful. I live in Nashville and there is NO chicken there as good as the Shish Tawook here at Mama Mia's. This hummus ranks with the best I've ever had as well. Don't be scared by the average looking strip mall; this place is very special.

Perfect option when you're looking for something else when everyone wants pizza! Best of both worlds. Ordered the in-laws a supreme pizza (which they loved) while my son & I enjoyed fried ravioli (highly recommend--GREAT sauce), hummus & pita (good hummus. Pita is sesame heavy), & a nice Mediterranean pasta (quite tasty!). The delivery took about an hour but worth the wait. I will definitely be ordering again.

I love this little gem. They have the best fried pickle spears ever. Not greasy whatsoever like everyone else. I love their Eggplant Parmesan and portions are huge. You can get delivery through doorstep delivery too.

A unique experience, to say the least. Wife and i have been here more than 5 times and haven't yet been disappointed. Not only is the Mediterranean diverse and tasty, but the pizza is the best we've had here. We moved out from SoCal years ago so restaurant standards are lofty. Pizza is better than Harbys, Gondolier, and several other places big and small.

The meal tasted fine, but the service was absolutely horrendous. We arrived at the location at around 3:15 pm and we didn't get out until 5:30. We ordered they're 2 for $25 special which is awesome except for the fact that our appetizers and our entrees came out at the same time and that was after we waited over an hour for our food. The cheesy breadsticks were amazing but the calzone was very bland. The waitress set the food down wrong and didn't know which dish was what. My friend asked for a calzone with white sauce and they completely messed it up. They run a buy one pizza get one free deal and the waitress charged my friend for 2 pizzas. Get this, we were the only ones in the restaurant... This place must have been extremely understaffed that day because the other reviews seem to be good which is why I was so disappointed

The only good thing about this place is that it is halal which is great for Muslims. Their wings are good. Can't complain there. The middle eastern food is average and subpar. I've had better. But I am also coming from Los Angeles so my expectations are higher I guess. I would probably go again and try the Italian food. The shish tawook was decent from the dishes I have tried.

We found this place to have good reviews and decided to try lunch here. The wait staff seemed nice enough, and gave good recommendations. However, after waiting nearly an hour for our food, i decided to see what was up. Tens out they had just then placed the food in the oven. No update on time, no apology for taking long. We walked out. Wasn't busy either, so unsure of what the holdup was. Very unhelpful management.

Based on all of the reviews I stuck with the Mediterranean selections for my order. I decided on the baba ganoush and the beef shawarma wrap. The baba ganoush was good. Nice creamy texture and with a slight tangyness. Only had two olives for decoration and definitely could've used more. I was skeptical about the sesame bread served with it. It is good bread but I felt cheated that I couldn't enjoy the baba ganoush with pita bread. I love fresh baked pita bread and it's not nearly as heavy as the sesame bread. The shawarma was awful. The meat was dry. The wrap was falling apart and very dry. The fries were cold and I didn't even bother with them. I had my food delivered and the delivery was timely. I just don't think that for the price the food was worth it.

A truncated version of my full review (thanks, Yelp character count): A lazy Saturday afternoon prompted my girlfriend to fire up the computer and search for an interesting eatery we could patronize for dinner. She finds a coupon for this place. I'm the snob in the relationship, so I was immediately skeptical when we pulled up to the restaurant. A plain beige facade with big, ugly red letters heralded "MAMA MIA CUISINE." I let out a sigh and a sarcastic "Yeah, baby!" before we parked, but we're willing to give a chance to just about everything. So, we walk up and, over the threshold, things aren't looking much more promising. The foyer looks like your run of the mill pizza delivery joint, with a walk up counter and a young guy cranking out pizzas. A tacky sign reads: "Welcome to Mama Mia. Please seat yourself." I look to my left and there's a small open doorway through which the actual dining area is located. It's dark. There are a couple of televisions showing the basketball game. In the middle of the room, a trashed table and chairs indicates that a big party has just left. Kids' cups with lids line the outer edges and used napkins spill over the side. Not exactly the most appealing start to the evening. The waitress (the ONLY waitress working that night), a young lady, welcomes us and asks us to please give her a little time while she deals with some of her duties. So we sit down at a booth (the only clean booth available) with a tear in the seat and wait for a little while. We poke fun at the images under the table glass. They are clearly simple pixel images off of the internet that were printed and cut out: the Leaning Tower of Pisa, seascapes, pictures of food. It's hilarious. The waitress takes a little longer than I want to wait, but I feel bad for her considering she is the only one working, and I am by no means an ornery or demanding customer. So I get up and help myself to two menus so that we will be prepared when she is finally ready to take our order. The minute I look at the menus, I can tell that this restaurant is confused. The damned things read "Mama Mia Italian Cuisine." My girl and I could have sworn this was a Mediterranean place. I flip through pages of pasta, pizza, and the like. On the very back, I find what we're looking for: Mediterranean dishes. It is at this moment when I realize the whole marketing strategy behind the steal of a deal my girlfriend found online. Nearly everything on this back page, right next to the name of the dish, bears the label "New!" Clearly, considering that the coupon offers deals on only this section of the menu, the management is trying to showcase their revamped Middle-Eastern fare. We start with the foule, a fava bean dish. The fava beans are laid before us with freshly baked sesame bread. The bread was basted with some kind of delicious lemon concoction, though it did not overpower the natural flavor of the dough and the sesame seeds. Delicious. Now the foule is not at all what I was expecting. It is a huge bowl of some of the best damned bean stew, chili, dip...whatever, I have had in quite some time. The flavor of the beans is brought together nicely by a beautiful pool of olive oil and what I assume is ground cilantro that has collected on the top. A wonderful dish, and a great starter. My girlfriend orders a small house salad while I get the Greek. Nothing too special here, but I would like to note that the ingredients are very fresh. The feta cheese is especially good, and it is cut into bite-sized cubes for great flavor. Next come our entrees, and by this time we are both enthralled by the chef's culinary prowess. I get the Shish Tawook (a skewered chicken dish served over rice with grilled tomatoes and onions) while my girlfriend receives the decadent Mediterranean Dinner: a combination of delicious house hummus, Shish Tawook, Shish Kebab (beef), Shish Kafta (ground beef), falafel (a beautifully fried patty of ground chickpeas), a fried Kebbie (a very interesting ball of fried sweet dough stuffed with a savory meat, simply amazing, I can't do it justice here), and a grape leaf stuffed with aromatic seasoned rice. All of this is, of course, also served over more rice, grilled onions, and tomatoes. The chicken? Gorgeous. Wonderfully seasoned and tender. Tastes of lemongrass. Juicy and savory. The beef? Hah, which one? The Kebab tastes like the best cuts of a steak cooked to perfection. The Kafta is even better (though my girl liked the Kebab more). The meat is sweet. The taste somehow reminds me of Christmas or a beautiful autumn day. I'm not exaggerating here. Simply divine. Everything else is impeccable as well, right down to the warm juices of the grilled tomato exploding in my mouth, and the sweet onion over the rich rice---the same rice that sits and absorbs all these flavors. We leave a good tip in high spirits. The girl deserves it. The chefs and owners deserve all the praise I am giving them right now.

First visit here..we ordered: Sampler - this was the standard chicken sticks, fried mozz, fried mushrooms. It was as expected and I would save my money and appetite for the rest of the menu. Mediterranean Dinner - this consisted of hummus, fattoush, rice, fried kebbie and falafal, one shish kebab, one shish tawook, one shish kafta, and one grape leaf. Everything on the plate was good to excellent with the exception of the rice and the grape leaf which were ok. We also had an order of the chicken parm which was very good and at $8.99 was a great deal. The standouts for the evening were the hummus, shish tawook, and the shish kaboob but overall I think the entire experience was well above average and worthy of additional visits.

Food was delivered on time and is fresh and hot at the time of delivery. This is the first time I ordered from them and I will continue to order from them. Thumb up for sure

Stopped by on our drive back to Texas. We were really impressed. Ordered a calzone (which is HUGE), the meat ravioli (hand made and absolutely delish), and the kiddo got spaghetti which was completely smothered in cheese and a huge helping. If we come through Knoxville again we will definitely be stopping by again. To top it off the prices were great considering the amount of food we got.

Man, I'm maybe 3/4 of the way through my meal but I already feel compelled to leave a review. This is a pretty phenomenal gyro, especially for Knoxville. The meat has a good char to it, as opposed to that lifeless, floppy gyro meat you get at some other places. ("Floppy gyro meat" is probably the most unintentionally euphemistic phrase I've used all week.) Anyway, yeah, the tzatziki sauce on the gyro is really good. Very garlicky. Not runny. I'm in the habit of asking for extra sauce when I order a gyro no matter where I go, and I'm glad I did so here because they don't give you much to start out with. It comes with lettuce, tomato and red onions on the side, which is awesome because then if you want them they don't go all limp in the gyro. Or if you're like me and think that vegetables just get in the way of delicious he-man meat, then you don't even have to bother with them. It came with fries, and they're perfectly acceptable. Very well-seasoned (I imagine it might be a little much for some people) and not soggy. It also came with a pickle, which doesn't strike me as something that would go with a gyro, but hey! Free pickle. I'll take it. I can't believe how many times I passed this place up even though it's so close to where I work. I'll definitely be returning.

Just walked out because we could not get service after 30 minutes. Hope the food is good. Only adding words so I can post this as a review.

Why oh why is this place hiding behind a misspelled Italian name? The waitress informed us that the owner is from Jordan and the main chef is Iraqi, which is reflected in the menu which features dolmeh, fattoush, tabouli, shish tawook, etc. This is the only place in Knoxville to get Kibbeh (Kubbeh, Qubbah, Kibbie, whatever you want to call it.) There are the types of balance style dessert and even though it's not on the menu you can get coffee or hot tea. Yes, there is generic Italian food on the menu, not sure why you'd order that though. The atmosphere wasn't anything to write home about, although I enjoyed the Arabic music playing. Service was very friendly, we used a Groupon no problem. We will be back, delicious middle Eastern restaurant with a misleading name :-)

Top 5 pizza in knoxville that nobody knows about located just off cedar bluff. Never had a bad meal and i have had everything on it besides the newly updated items. spaghetti and meatballs are a great value with amazing sauce served with garlic bread. All sandwiches are fantastic served with fries. The only thing i didnt care for on the menu was the grape leaves, but i brought my leftovers home and my cousin said they were good. I just need to tell myself to stay away from grape leaves. Just dont have the pallet.

This is as good as it gets for kabobs in Knoxville. Had the Mediterranean dinner which came with tabouleh, hummus, and three types of kabobs with rice. The food was very good and it was a great price. The staff was respectful and courteous. This is definitely my go to place for kabobs, even if there were more kabob joints in K-town.

Good Pizza, the menu shows other stuff I haven't yet tried. Close to my hotel, quick service with a smile. Not really a dining room, take-out/delivery is the deal.

Delivered to my hotel fast and steaming hot. The pizza had a lot of flavor and the veggies were of high quality.

I don't know if it was an "off" night or what, but my opinion of Mama Mia's sure doesn't match other reviews. Traveling through & spent the night in Knoxville. Picked up a brochure in the hotel lobby and decided to give Mama Mia's a try. Ordered a large pizza for delivery; told it would be an hour - which was fine. Also requested they send a couple of paper plates. Pizza arrives about 45 minutes later. KId hands me the pizza, takes the money & hot foots it down the hall! I know why! This pizza was stone cold - not warm, not luke warm - stone COLD!! I don't know why - we were told we were only five minutes away from the restaurant; did he deliver 17 other pizzas first? Drop off to see his girlfriend? Oh - and the bag that I thought contained plates - nope, some packaged parmesan cheese and some forks - no plates. We called the restaurant - and they gave us an attitude! "we said it would be an hour" That wasn't the issue! The issue is that you delivered a cold pizza!! Then they said they would make us another one & send it over - in an hour! We had traveled for almost ten hours that day - we wanted to eat & go to sleep. We had a microwave in the hotel room and managed to tear up part of the box to fit in the microwave so we could heat it up - which was a waste because even heated up, it was a nasty tasting pizza!! Bad pizza - bad attitude.

Italian and Mid Eastern food at a great price. Very simple restaurant but good, hot food. My friend ordered a Calzone and it was bigger than her head! And at a great price! Will definitely be eating here for lunch again!

So....don't show up on Sunday. They're closed...even though the door was open and the "open" sign was on. Yelp will tell you that they're open. Save yourself the drive. May try to re-visit and if I do, I will update this review.

I was staying at the Hampton Inn, so I've only been here once. I know it sounds like an Italian restaurant, pizza and such, but wow the Mediterranean food we had was wonderful. I wish I lived nearby. Adana kabob had perfect spice, not too hot but spicy. The meat shwarama wrap was also full of flavor. Grape leaves were fresh and the sauce was perfect. The bread - oh my goodness, sesame and salt and fresh. Yum. Do this. Eat the Mediterranean options.

My wife and I ate at Mama Mia's two nights ago. The wife's calzone was delicious and huge! We ate the leftover half last night. My salad and sampler plate of three different kababs was also delicious and provided leftovers. Service was friendly, helpful and attentive. Another great locally owned restaurant! No alcohol is served, but customers can bring their own wine with no corkage fee.

I ordered "Mama Mia Combo" here, the chicken kabob was very good but the ground beef kabob was terrible! I think the quality of meet was very bad I will go there again but I will just eat chicken kabob

I wish I tried this place sooner!! We came today because I'd bought a groupon a few months back that was getting ready to expire. My group tried the Mediterranean Sampler almost filled ourselves up with it that we barely had room for our entrees! It was presented beautifully and super delicious! The hummus was so smooth and yummy and the sesame bread was hot out of the oven fresh! For my entree I got a gyro with fries and my friends each got a calzone (which really one is enough to share between two people) and everyone was pleased with their food. I'm excited to go back and try some more things off their menu! Ps the place was empty at lunchtime when we arrived and I don't know why, there food is wonderful! So if you are thinking about trying the place, please go for it!!!

We usually order from Mama Mias about once a week, most of the time it's really good, I always get the hummus dip with grilled chicken, which is super delicious, and the fresh pita bread is usually fantastic. Having said that, I think they have 2 different chefs, there have been some nights that we have ordered that it wasn't nearly as good and the portions were smaller, but the good times outweigh the bad, there delivery can be a bit dodgy they have forgotten things a couple of times and aren't timely about either bringing them back to you or making it up to you, so I recommend that you carry out, so that you can check your order.

Pizza was good, but kind of overpriced for what you get. Two pizzas shouldn't cost you $35

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
