    Delicious and beautiful Birthday cakes!

Magpies is hands-down the best bakery I've visited in Knoxville. Being a chocolate lover, my favorite cupcake is the chocolate fudge cupcake. OMG. It is heavenly! Magpies also handled a cake for my bridal shower, plus a small cake and cupcakes for our wedding. (We had a cupcake tower instead of a traditional wedding cake.) When I added red cupcakes with white polka dots (a la Super Mario's power-up mushrooms - our cake topper was a castle with Mario and Peach figurines on top), Magpies added little mushroom heads to the border around the bottom of my bridal shower cake. It was an awesome surprise, and our small cake from the top of the cupcake tower was every bit as delicious one year later. My family makes it a point to buy cakes from Magpies for just about every celebration. They made the cake for our Race for the Cure after party, for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary, and for a multitude of birthdays. They are every bit as delicious - maybe more so, if you can believe it - as the cupcakes. Their cakes are moist, and the icing is to die for. I just can't rave about this place enough! I went on a search in NYC for the "perfect cupcake," but I swear none of those bakeries touched Magpies!

All I had was a cookie (well, three of them actually), and they were delicious. Chocolate chip. The cupcakes were SO CUTE and I will definitely be back to have one (or six) of them. Love this place.

HNNGH. Nomnomnom. I'm sorry, I'm too busy eating these AMAZING MINI CUPCAKES (including a Guinness-flavored one, DANG Y'ALL!) to talk to you about how good this place is right now. Just know that cupcakes were not even a blip on my delicious snack radar before Magpies came into my life with its buttercream-frosted goodness. Kind of pricey, but that's why you charm someone ELSE into buying them for you!

Ermahgoodness! The cake is bringing the Madea out of me! Just finished eating a slice of a delicious Magpies' cake that I bought for my brother's birthday. The icing was like buttah. Heavenly. Sweet, but not too sweet. I can be a bit of an icing snob - I was spoiled by a mother who would always make delicious, homemade buttercream icing. Usually the icing on a bought cupcake or cake is a let down for me, but not Magpie's icing. My brother and I took a bite of the cake, and then (after the awesomeness of the icing hit us) we looked at each other with wide-eyed joy! We have found it! Good icing! Mama-quality icing! I highly recommend this bakery. The staff were also very sweet and easy to work with. They even inscribed the cake with a choice curse word that I requested - used as a term of endearment, of course.

WOW.... This was amazing. We were traveling through from more than 8 hours away. This is something we will have our friends who live in knoxville ship to us. Every bite from every cupcake in the sample box was an absolute explosion of flavor. The best baked goods/bakery i've ever found.

Wonderfully interesting cupcake flavors are something these gals do very well! The other being delicious and beautiful cakes. My key-lime coconut mango wedding cake was more wonderful than I could have imagined and equal to what you'd see on a fancy cake show! I moved away to Chicago, my family brings Magpies Minis each time they visit! Check your chin b/c their butter cream will have you drooling.

On my way out of Knoxville, I grabbed a cherry pie from here and MAN, am I glad I did! I was taking it to share w folks in the next location I was crashing at, but when we dug into the pie, I kind of lamented that I'd not secretly bought one for myself. This location is adorably decorated, and you can see the bakers at work when you walk in, which I personally love. The girl behind the counter was super patient with me and didn't get offended when I asked her if the cherry pie filling was home-made as well as the rest of it (sometimes its not). They even had free sample cupcakes! I mean, how much better does it get?! I personally am a pie snob, and while I'm sorry that I don't have a place like this in my hometown, its probably for the best interest of my waistline that Magpies is hours away from me. Don't miss this place for pie!

What a cute place! The location is so cute and everything is decorated in a sweet way. (Pun intended). I adore the little case of samples you can get so you know what you like before you buy it. They have all kinds of sweet treats ranging from cupcakes to cakes to pie and cookies so it offers a little more variety then a classic cupcake shop and the prices are extremely affordable.

Magpies talent and quality translated not only to the succulence and flavor of the cakes we had at our wedding but also contributed to the presentation of our wedding. They are perfect, moist cakes at a reasonable price and as you can tell from our photos, they are pieces of art as well. Why you would even consider another bakery in Knoxville is beyond me. Love Magpies and thanks for making our wedding cake one of the things everyone was talking about.

BUTTERY GOODNESS. The missing star was taken by an ex-employee named maren, whose pretentious attitude was so off putting that I sadly got my wedding cake elsewhere, as working with her as the designer was going to be more than I could handle. My mom or husband get me the chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream for my bday most years and it's the best part of birthdays. I'll sadly be in New York for this year's, and I'll miss it so. I love you.

Yummy cupcakes and free samples! Purchased the delux vupcske samller and loved every flavor I tried. I'm anxiously awaiting getting home to try the coconut cream pie with the family!

I had an assortment of mini cupcakes last week that were delicious but the chocolate peanut butter cake I had today was life-changingly amazing. It is flavorful but somehow very light. I could probably eat a whole cake in one sitting. Love love love.

You'll find this Knoxville institution on Central Avenue right out side of downtown Knoxville. The owner is always a joy and has some amazing ideas. The little cupcakes are dangerous, you cannot eat just one! The cake creations are off the chart. I'm more of a cupcake or flourless torte fan, but I see people FLOCK to a cake at the office or weddings. They also give back to the community. Oh did I mention the king cake oh baby cherry, cheese, traditional name it they probably have it or can make it. Don't want a whole cake? How about pieces? Yep they sell those as well. Do your self a favor go check them out and then go to Holly's right next store.

I got my son's graduation cake from Magpies. I called & ordered a custom design with his high school and college logo on it. They did an amazing job & everyone raved about how good the cake was & how great it looked. Thanks, Magpies!!!

I love magpies so much! We got our wedding cake and cupcakes from here and everyone raved about them. Ryan is so sweet and I love seeing her when I stop in for dessert. I normally don't like boutique type cupcakes (aka ones that aren't from the cold section of a grocery store, I know I know!) but these are just so delicious! I think they have the best icing in the world. They have everyday flavors such as chocolate and vanilla but they also have a huge variety of fancier flavors! The pistachio is one of the best! I have also tried the banana pudding and pie and both were worthy of another order. YUMMY!

So delicious and affordable! They have Cruz milk so that's always a plus The owner was so kind and made my boyfriend and my first anniversary even more special definitely recommend!

My updated review for Magpies bakery was long overdue. I love this place. I am not sure how their pastries come out so amazing but they do. Every single time. I have tried the cupcakes, celebration cakes, Boston cream pies, apple pies. You name it. Everything is delicious. They are my go to place when I need a cake for any occasion. My cakes always come out beautiful and always taste amazing. Love the girls who work there too. They are always nice and always willing to let you try something when you need help deciding on a flavor. I usually place my cake order about 24 hours before I needed it and they have always been so accommodating. They understand and explain their product really well. So walk in to get one cupcake, a dozen cupcakes or order a cake. Don't miss Happy Hour at lunch time with a featured cupcake and a shot of Cruze farm milk. Be warned that it is pretty addicting!

Oh, goodness, this is one fine bakery. Their mini cupcakes are a favorite at our house, especially when the grandchildren visit. They're just big enough to satisfy your craving for a sweet, and the perfect size for little hands. The icing on the cupcakes is so delicious, the cake is moist and tender. The staff are all sweet and helpful. If you're lucky, you just might score on reduced price baked goods from the day before- a great bargain and still yummy. But, even at full price the baked goods here are top notch. I highly recommend you pay them a visit.

Absolutely AMAZING & delicious. I can't wait to have an excuse to do a custom order from Magpies. Their red velvet is perfect and how I judge all bakeries. Truly, as good as it gets.

I really want to love this place. They are super friendly and the shop is very clean and nice. The mini cupcakes are to die for. However the mini goodness does not convert into the larger cakes. Every full sized cake I've ever had from here has been bone dry. I will totally continue to get the minis but it makes me sad the the larger cakes are so disappointing.

Their minicupcakes are simply wonderful. Just enough icing. Fantastic flavors. Couldn't ask for anything more.

I was in Tn for a group gathering and we needed some pastries for our large group of kids. We arrived at the location and gave them absolutely no notice that we were going to make such a big order, but they stepped up to the challenge. I can tell from the look on their faces that we gave them a pretty big task, but they did it with absolutely no kind of animosity. I love that they can bend to the needs of the clientele at the time. I would suggest giving them notice when you have such a big order as a common courtesy, but they really helped us when we were in a pinch.

My husband and I got married earlier this week. We live in Iowa, but got married in the Smokies. When we were looking for bakeries, we looked all around the area, but didn't find anyone who look like they had great cakes - while we weren't wanting a Kroger cake, we also weren't looking for a traditional 3-tier wedding cake (or, for that matter, a non-traditional one) as our wedding was very small. We ended up buying a small round cake with basic decorations from Magpies -- the Chocolate Lovers -- and have them decorate it with a fairly traditional monochromatic swirl motif. It looked fabulous, and tasted even better. I really wish we had grabbed some cupcakes while we were there, but they were closing and I didn't think to. In all honesty, it was the best wedding cake I have ever had (and one of the top 5 of *all* cakes I have eaten). If I'm ever in the Knoxville area again, I am *so* getting cupcakes. I wonder if they send by mail....

Note: My review is a little biased since my wife is the baker here. Magpies puts out the best cupcakes and cakes in Knoxville. Their flavors are innovative -- Honey Lavender, Mexican chocolate -- and delicious. I'm not a huge icing fan, but even I swoon over their carrot cake with cream-cheese icing. Also worth noting are the crumb-bums. These are the pieces of cakes that are shaved off for decorating. They're very tasty!

Got to Magpies at about 11:00 today. I went to buy a king cake, which they've been advertising, but they were out. In fact all they had were day-old mini cupcakes and thumbprint cookies. What kind of bakery has nothing to sell?

Magpies cupcakes are the best I've ever tasted in my life. Cute location, helpful staff, excellent cakes. Worth every penny. Magpies also occasionally supports local groups by having benefit sales where a portion of proceeds will go back into the community. You gotta love that.

My girlfriend and I are cupcake fiends and this place was as good if not better than the cupcake specialty shops in NYC that we frequent late at night. Theire motto "all butter all the time" made me feel right at home and seemed to fit in nicely with the southern culinary traditions I had experienced up to that point. You will not be dissapponted by anything in this place. The women working there were all so nice and let us eat our fill of samples before we actually bought a dozen assorted cupcakes. I LOVE cupcakes and therefor I LOVE Magpies. I'm surprised more people in Knoxville aren't obese because this place is awesome!

I really miss this place since moving out of state... : ( These are the BEST cupcakes I have ever had, especially love the strawberry and the pumpkin (only available seasonally). Have recommended this place to lots of people and everyone who tries it becomes a repeat customer! Have yet to find anyplace else where I live now that even comes close! This is a must visit if you are in Knoxville!

I was at Vestival, recently (a super mellow south knoxville festival) where they had a cake walk. The prize was one of Magpies' strawberry shortcakes. My friend, Carl, won. The cake was HUGE. He saved it until later that night, when, at a neighborhood grill-out, he shared it with 50 people!. Their cakes are beautiful, but SO rich you really can't eat a normal slice. Their cupcakes are equally amazing. Thus the inspiration for Yee-Haw's shirt that reads: CUPCAKES MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY.

Delicious gourmet bakery but a little too expensive for the product. Our sour cream coffee cake was a little dry and fell apart being cut for guests. Tasted great but did not present well for an $18 coffee cake. Cupcakes were tastey but expensive as well.

Amazing! I was in on Elvis Presley's Birthday and they had Blue Velvet Cupcakes in honor of the King! Their mini cupcakes are an awesome bite size treat! Definitely worth a trip when you are in Knoxville!

I ordered a basic birthday cake which was nicely done and very tasty. Everyone enjoyed it. My only complaint was the service. Maybe it was an off day for the person who waited on me, but, I have had friendlier service from the tax assessors office on a friday afternoon. After signing my CC slip, I picked up my cake and said thanks, she just looked at me with a blank expression and walked away. Perhaps a "thank you" or "enjoy your cake" would be nice.

Yum, yum, yum. These cakes are glorious. Every kind I have tried has been great. The cake is wedding cake quaility and makes any event special. I recently had a cake with strawberry icing and it was amazing. Love that they use real butter in their baked goods.
