One of the best tex-mex places in Knoxville and very quick service.

I've been here a few times, and all of my experiences have been positive. They have all the basic dishes you expect from a Mexican joint. I haven't tried their bar yet, so I can't say much about the margaritas, but the fajitas, burritos, and enchiladas are all on point, and the price cannot be beat. I highly recommend the "Dinner for Two" options. My hubster and I pay about $15 for two great meals with enough food to fill you up. You can ask to get some things chicken instead of beef, which adds some variety. If you're going light on the meat or are vegetarian, I recommend the vegetarian fajitas. A lovely assemblage of veggies served fajita-style with rice, beans, sour cream, lettuce, pico de gallo, guac, and tortillas. It is lovely, and also moderately priced. The bean and cheese dip is great, and free, and part of the reason La Palma is separate from the massive body of Mexican restaurants that fill every town in Tennessee, especially Knoxville. There are dozens of Mexican restaurants here, from the cheesy to the refined, and La Palma finds a sweet spot somewhere in the middle.

I come here with my family at least once a week. They have the best chips, salsa, and queso, hands down.

Believe the hype, because this place really is so good. First let me say that if you're familiar with Monterrey (on Merchant), the menu is really super reminiscent in some ways to that. Just little things are so similiar that I wonder if both establishments have the same ownership. Palma's starts you off with salsa (delicious) and a tiny dish of cheese dip (cheese is always delicious, it's a scientific fact). Their menu is quite large and features the regular cast of characters. I recommend any of the enchiladas, the chile relleno (theirs does include meat and they bake it individually so the cheese on top forms an almost crust around the edges - delicious!), and the Texas margartias. The Texas taste more like they're made with Orange Juice than nasty sweet & sour or margarita mix. Definitely worth a visit - you will be planning a trip back!

Arguably this is the best Mexican restaurant in the Knoxville area. All ingredients are fresh, the service is quick, and the family-run nature of the staff sets it apart from the fast food and chain types. It is very popular with families, especially on high school game nights, but the patrons move through very quickly so the wait tends to be short. Expect great salsa and bean dip, very cold beer, and a variety of dishes from various regions of Mexico. Even tho it's a strip mall location you won't be disappointed.

Best Mexican food in Knoxville! The waitstaff is as good as the food! 5 stars and 2 thumbs up! They know us and what we want. Who could ask for more! ?!?!

Let's be realistic this is not a food-gasm. But for the price you will not beat this food. A solid, decent meal at a fair price. And service is lightning quick. What's faster than lightning? Cuz thats La Palma. Drinks are gigantic- I wouldn't cross the Rio Grande for their margarita but I WOULD cross Clinton Highway. Get the La Palma (chorizo) dip! Yummy

Chips with two dips: Salsa and Cheese with beans. - I don't think it was freshly made. Maybe other restaurants keep their chips warm? Or fry it a bit before handing it out? I'm comparing this based on another Mexican restaurant that served warm and crunchy chips. - The salsa: watery. It was so runny that it didn't even stay on the chip. Salsa needs to be thicker than this. It looked like red water with some tomato chunks. - The cheese and beans dip: I'm surprised they gave this since it's usually expensive. This definitely made up for the lacking salsa. This was the first time I had a cheese bean dip and it was good. This portion was smaller, as expected, but the consistency was correct! Cheese quesadilla: the prominent taste is mozzarella cheese The main dish: La Palma quesadilla - replaced shrimp for vegetables. So I'm wondering what special vegetables were in this besides the regular listed: tomato, onions, bell peppers. Nothing. Inside the quesadilla was just those. And of course there was cheese to seal it. This dish also came with rice, beans, and a salad. Salad? Their definition of salad was shredded lettuce. - The biggest turn off was the amount of oil. How much oil do you need to stir fry vegetables?!? My plate was drowned in oil (underneath the quesadilla). It was sickening to consume. Overall, there are better Mexican joints around. I don't recommend coming here for their regular menu but maybe for their lunch menu since it's cheaper. Customer service was good. The waiter checked up on us often and refilled our drinks.

Love going to this place during lunch at work. They have a lot to choose from on the lunch menu. You get this cheesy bean dip with your salsa when you sit down and it is sooooo good. If your looking for a clean place with great service, at a reasonable price.. then this is it!

The food is good here but the Service is terrible. I've been twice in the past few weeks and had the same server. He is so bad. I was a server for 8 years and I would've lived in a ditch if I was as bad as him. I do enjoy the bean and cheese dip a lot. Maybe next time I can request not to sit with him. I wish I knew his name. But three stars because of him. Would be more based on food.

This is my 'go-to' for what most consider to be Mexican food. They've got all the standard dishes we know and love but there is one big difference that sets them apart from all of the others.....they're way better! Fresh salsa and a little dish of bean and cheese dip always come quickly to the table. The chips are always warm and never stale. The menu is pretty extensive, offering much more than your usual fajitas or chimichangas. The Chili Relleno is the best I've ever had! Even what I consider to be boring Mexican (steak burrito, chicken fajitas) are really good and fresh! This place is a nice little gem tucked away in Northwest Knoxville.

Easily my favorite Mexican restaurant to date in Knoxville. My family and I eat here once each week, usually on Thursday or Friday and always have a good meal. A few of my favorite things about La Palma: 1) When you walk in, the place is clean. I mean from the start, the windows are clean, the glass doors are clean, the tables and chairs are clean. While you are dining I see employees cleaning (like sitting in the back and wiping down menus which I love because a dirty menu gets a meal off to a bad start for me.) I like a clean place. 2) We typically order simple fare like fajitas, fried ice cream..all the American style Mexican dishes.. and they are all fresh and prepared well. 3) Our meals are generally served within 10 minutes of ordering. 4) Have only had decent to very good service so no complaints there. 5) The chips and salsa along with the cheesy beans mixture are all very good. There is probably a touch to much cilantro in the salsa but I can live with that. For 3 of us my bill typically runs about $30 including a $5 tip. Probably a bit pricy for a quick out of the office lunch but this is our main meal for that day so I feel like I'm getting off easy. Overall two thumbs up for these guys.

this is a great little mexican spot. you get great value for your money here. they have the usual large portion sizes, but the great thing with this place is that it's not as overpriced as others in knoxville. plus, they give you free cheese/bean dip along with your salsa and chips. they have a full bar. when you walk in there is no real hostess stand, you kinda linger in the entry way until someone leaves and then you are sat. but the staff are always friendly.

Standard Mexican with a few things to set them apart in a good way. 1) free bean and queso dip with your chips and 2) lightening fast service. It was jam packed when we arrived and we were seated within five minutes. Then, I swear our ticket time for our food was only 4-5 minutes! Only thing keeping them from a five is spicer food, but it is off of Clinton Hwy so I see why they stay on the "safe side".

Yeah, for realz. This place is good. The nacho chips are good, and free. I dared the waiter to bring me 'hot sauce' ... he looked at me and said, "Are you sure?" I said "Don't threaten me, and bring my the HOTTEST sauce you got." Well, I didn't think they'd bring me out "Dave's Insanity Sauce w/ Ghost Pepper" ... so, I sent him back for the 2nd hottest sauce he had. that was much better. Anyways, I love this place and the owner is awesome too .. he's always there and he always laughs at my kids as they try and steal candy from the "March of Dimes" bowl. All the stuff is good, you need to listen to me - it's ALL good. It's a great place and it's cheap too. Thanks dear Mexicanos for the cuisine. -G

I liked the food here. I've been here twice and enjoyed both trips. It is just basic Mexican food but they do it well. The service was good so that added a whole star. I definitely will continue to eat here.

So this is one of those places you almost don't want to review because everyone will start going there... We took a drive in the country from West Knox based on the reviews and were not disappointed. When you pull in it looks like any other of a million strip mall Mexican joints. Nothing much changes with the decor but then you look at the menu. Same stuff you expect but a lot if choices. Chips and salsa are promptly delivered but with a little bowl of heaven in the form of bean dip with lots of queso. It is a treat! Friendly wait staff and not very crowded. We had shrimp fajitas and chile verde. The fajitas were better than normal, but the pico was made with fresh tomatoes and spiced just right. The verde sauce was excellent, not the out of the can variety you usually find. $30.00 including tip, was worth every peso. Worth the drive from West Knox. Be a hero and take some friends to this little surprise. Just don't tell too many people ;-)

Best Mexican in Knoxville, BAR NONE. I agree with much of what has been said already; Clean, VERY CLEAN, even the bathrooms are squeaky clean; cheap, like you can eat lunch for as little as $5.25; EXCELLENT FOOD. I can't say this enough, I have tried a lot of these types of places, and some come close, but none surpass the quality of food. I love the Burrito Grande; Two burrito's filled with perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp. Seriously, they don't skimp you on the shrimp, it's great. The Chile Relleno is amazing and smothered in that white cheese (crack) that could make a leather baseball glove taste amazing. AND the Tamales are terrific. The only better Mexican food I've had is at a place in Jacksonville, NC called Mi Cabana.

We paid our first visit to this restaurant based on the good reviews I have read, and we weren't disappointed. Like most Mexcan restaurants they bring you a basket of chips and a bowl of salsa, but they also bring a small bowl of refried beans topped with queso. I'm not much of a salsa lover, so ths was a nice surprise. Their menu is huge. My husband got carnitas and I ordered a combo plate with tamale, taco and tostaguaq. The carnitas were flavorful and tender. The best thing on my plate was the tamale, and it was excellent. The service was attentive and prompt. We'll be back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
