My husband and I visited his parents in Knoxville and we wanted to go somewhere special to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. She got this place recommended so we gave it a try. I ordered the halibut and it was pretty decent although everything on the plate pretty much lacked salt. My hubby and mother-in-law orderered the Masala chicken and it was even worse in term of flavor... nada... it was so blend!! We specified it was a birthday we were celebrating and the restaurant didn't do anything special:( I found the price way too high for the food we got. Nothing too crazy to rave about, we had cheaper and much tastier dishes in DC... Most probably we will not go back to Echo.

I ate here on a Thursday night using a Knoxville Lifestyle Coupon (50% off). The atmosphere is very pleasing and the restaurant is well kept as it's only been open 2 years. The restaurant was moderately busy and I started off with a very full glass of bourbon with a heavy pour. They provide fresh bread with pesto sauce that is very good. I then went with the Iceberg Wedge (which is pictured on yelp) which was also very good. My entrée was the lamb chops which were very big. The portions were very big and cooked perfectly. The cook stopped by the table a couple times to check up on me and the waiter was very attentive. I will definitely be dining here again in the near future.

I have had the pleasure of sampling the creations of Chef Simmerman on multiple occasions and I have to say that Echo is yet another example of how his love for the culinary arts is reflected in the food that he prepares. Perfection....

Good atmosphere, wait staff gets a bit harried as the evening picks up with dining clientele, but the food was very good; soup du jour, N.E. Clam Chowder was very well done, the spinach salad with crab meat was a nice combination of flavors and textures and the 'steak diane' had a wonderful demi glace with a complimentary truffled mashed potato which blended well with the beets. Say Hi! to Seth, the Executive Chef who has been a fixture in Knoxville for over thirty years.......bon apetit...

Very impressed with the chef here. This is my second visit here and the chef has sent out special treats both times. Intimate setting that provides amazingly friendly employees and truly specialized food. Each time I dine here it is a different but pleasing experience. I look forward to our next visit~

This was one of the few times in my life when I experienced what fine dining might be like. The noise was not overwhelming, our waitress was attentive, and our food was of the highest quality. And to think I would experience this gem in Knoxville! The restaurant is relatively small, at least compared to restaurants of similar quality or price. They had a full bar, and the chef made a couple of appearances in the dining room while I was there. That may or may not have been to the limited number of tables available in the restaurant, but it was great to speak to the chef. At first, I thought our waitress was somewhat aloof, but I soon learned that her behavior was intentional; she helped make our experience more about the food and drink rather than about her. She turned out to be very attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable of the menu. The food was especially impressive. Coming from a restaurant where the chef insists on farm-to-table dining, I might have had relatively high expectations of this restaurant, especially considering the prices of different entrees. I was very satisfied, especially because of the chef's willingness to accommodate me and another party member, who are vegetarians. I would easily recommend this restaurant to any friends or relatives who might be staying in this town. This restaurant was certainly worth my time and money, and I will definitely be visiting the next time I am in this part of Tennessee.

I'm not sure why this isn't ranking higher, other than perhaps because it often has an older crowd dining there. Chef is delightful, always comes to each table to discuss the menu and give suggestions. And the food is outstanding, with a very nice wine menu to compliment your meal. The cheese plate is a must - some very nice choices on there. I wasn't as crazy about the pate they included on the cheese plate, but that is a personal preference. Halibut was fresh and delicious and the lobster dish was perfect. A great romantic dinner spot.

Had a fantastic bar and appetizer experience here. Enjoyed the cheese plate and jalapeño, bacon and Blue Cheese Chips that absolutely rocked. The cheese plate was diverse and represented a good cross section of flavors. The chips were sinfully good. Would never had thought of pairing blue cheese and jalapeño but it worked wonderfully. All this with a nice Malbec and the night was a success. Will be returning for a main course experience.

Nice upscale restaurant for a date night with a unique menu and good service. Bartender prepares enjoyable cocktails or choose from their extensive wine list. For starters you can't go wrong with any of their soups, bread with homemade pesto or their mussels & escargot are delicious. For entrees I tend to pick the scallops that are always perfectly cooked. Chef Seth stops by table side to make sure everything is to your liking.

Dinner for four last Saturday 3/7/15 with 7:45 reservation. Was not seated till 8:45, server made us feel less than welcomed. Had veal chop, lamb, fish and nightly special none had any WOW impression.on us. Tom the bartender with his friendly and knowledgeable demeanor was the highlight of evening. ONE AND DONE FOR US

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars, I would have. This was by the far the worst experience I've ever had at any restaurant in my entire life. Before I go into more detail on my experience here, I'd like to say that I was really excited as we have heard good things about this place. Seeing as though Saturday was my birthday, and we wanted to try out a new restaurant, my husband did not hesitate to make a reservation here (and he also put in an advance order for the baked Alaska for the special occasion). When we got to the restaurant, it seemed fairly empty for a 7:00 on a Saturday night. We walked in, told them that we had a reservation, and the hostess told us that we could then choose where we sat. As we sat down, we were given glasses of water with a gigantic cube of watermelon at the bottom which was a little strange (by the end of the night, I had dissolved pieces of watermelon that kept getting stuck in my straw). A couple was seated at the booth next to us (we were separated by a see-through wall so we really felt as if we were at a table for four). After looking at our menu for 10 minutes, we were finally greeted by our waitress for the drink order. She walked away before we could tell her that we were ready to order but promised some bread and pesto (we never got the pesto). At this point, were approached by the Chef, and he asked if we had any food allergies and told us the specials of the night. He seemed very generous, and we were pretty excited to see that the Chef was introducing himself, as this usually only happens at upscale restaurants. We ordered our meal for the evening and I think that it is safe to say that it went downhill with every course. Appetizer: Pan Seared Ahi Tuna Vegetable Spring Rolls When the appetizer came out, it was completely different than what we had envisioned. The portion was really big. We didn't even know where to start. The plate consisted of some seared ahi tuna (which was probably the best item of the night), a tiny fried spring roll that was cut into 3 pieces, fried wonton chips, soggy grilled vegetables and a ramekin filled some sort of hoisin sauce. Soup: Coastal She Crab Bisque The creme fraiche on the top/the sherry that came on the side was completely unnecessary, but overall, the soup was just okay. Salad: Grainger County Tomatoes This salad was HORRIBLE. It consisted of a LARGE tomato cut into thick slices and a few random balls of mozzarella that were incredibly dried out. The cheese actually looked like the brand that they sell in grocery stores of balled mozzarella. After eating only HALF of the salad (we split both the soup and salad), I was pretty full. I felt like I had eaten a pound of tomatoes at this point. Main Courses: I ordered the special of the evening which was Surf and Turf - it was King Salmon and Veal (I don't eat veal so I just got the salmon). My husband ordered Broiled Filet of Beef "Wellington". I cannot even begin to describe how disgusting this meal was for the both of us. My salmon was COVERED in dill and cucumber and it was drenched in some sort of unknown thick sauce. The mashed potatoes were over salted, the beets on my plate were undercooked and inedible. There was a small fried medallion on my place, so naturally, I took a bite and had to spit it into my napkin immediately. I asked the waitress what I had just eaten and she told me, "It is a deep fried lemon that the chef adds to the plate for decoration. Some people think it's gross". WHO FRIES A LEMON FOR DECORATION, rind on and all? I took 2 bites of my salmon filet and I could not eat another bite. We then heard the couple next to us complaining about the Surf and Turf. She said the flavors just did not mix well together, and I could see that she had barely touched her plate. The beef "wellington" was FAR from a wellington, as it was a piece of steak with some cracker twists on top. At this point, we were just ready to get out here! Unfortunately, they remembered to bring out the baked Alaska. The woman who looked like a manager poured some sort of alcohol around the platter and proceeded to light it on fire. The fire was going for about 30 seconds which completely burned the bottom half of the dessert. As I took a bite, all I could taste was the harsh liquor and the burned 'meringue'. This dish was also inedible and it was $24. Overall, our service was slow, our food was even worse...and should I even bring up the fact that there was a table set for two in the woman's bathroom/chairs in front of the urinal in the men's bathroom (beyond weird)? We spent a pretty penny on this experience and it was quite the birthday dinner to say the least. We didn't have it in our hearts to complain to the Chef who seemed very kind but I highly recommend not coming here if you're looking for a quality meal.

My husband and I were there for our wedding anniversary, and I would say that, overall, we had a good time. There were some highs, but there were also some lows about the evening. We were given glasses of water with watermelon chunks in them (as opposed to the usual lemon wedge). I guess it was an interesting idea in theory, but just not a good idea in reality. The watermelon wasn't fresh, so it actually gave the water a subtle but slightly rancid flavor. I had a glass of iced tea, so I simply stopped drinking it, but my husband had to ask for a glass without the watermelon. Our server brought us a basket of warm, cheesy, crusty bread with a jar of pesto. SO YUMMY. My husband asked for extra because he loved it so much! I started off with the grilled oysters for an appetizer and I really liked it. The oysters were plump and juicy, not overcooked. I liked that they were simply flavored with parsley, garlic and salt. I sopped up the juices with some of my bread. Great job. Our entrees were probably the low point of the evening. I had the colossal gulf shrimp redwine, while my husband had the ribeye. My dish actually tasted really good, but it was SWIMMING in oil/butter. I literally stopped eating after about 5 bites because all the grease kinda grossed me out. My husband said his ribeye was cooked well, but the cut just seemed too fatty. Now I know that a ribeye is not a lean cut by any stretch of the imagination, but his cut was literally almost 1/3 fat!!! For dessert, we shared the chocolate flourless torte which was divine. It was moist and just as "chocolatety" as I wanted it to be. I think it might be a bit heavy for one person to have, but it was just the right amount for us because we shared it. We ended up paying just over $100, including the tip, but considering that I ordered an appetizer, and my husband had a glass of wine, I think the prices are pretty reasonable. We will come back and give it another try at some point.

This is my first review. My girlfriend and I had a great time at echo. It had been on our list of places to try. The service was wonderful and had a nice chat with the chef. She got the scallops which were cooked perfectly! I got one of the steaks it's been a month of so so I can't seem to remember the name but it was one of the best steaks I've ever had in Knoxville. We will be back soon!

We've dined here several times and it's just phenomenal. The owner-chef and his wife are utterly gracious and personable. They came by on several occasions to make sure everything was to our liking. And it was! We should have stopped at the appetizers (oysters and mussels -- terrific!), but it was all so delicious! My husband had a surf-and-turf special, our son had steak Diane and I had a "Sportsman's Plate" with venison sausage, frog legs and duck. The atmosphere is perfect with lovely art, good music and tasteful place settings. The restaurant is very cozy, so we like to come early to get one of the few booths. Our servers have always been highly attentive and energetic. Can't wait to go back.

Echo Bistro was such a nice dining experience on Valentine's day. I would recommend the trio of soups!! The She Crab soup and Pumpkin soup were my favorite. The bread is served with the yummiest pesto!! I could have stopped right there!! Our entrees were good (filet and shrimp), but the Banana, Banana, Banana dessert was sinful. Although I hear the chef comes to the table frequently, he (or she) did not on this night. I would assume that it was due to a busy Valentine's day night. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates fine dining.

Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars because only had the bar and appetizer experience. Based on that, I will return for full dinner in the future. Good prices at happy hour with 1/2 price specials on wine, beer, and well liquor. Tried tuna plate and escargot. Both satisfying. Staff and chef all friendly and attentive. Thanks for a nice afternoon.

I have been here 5 or 6 times in the past few years and have always had a good to excellent meal. The She Crab soup is hard to beat! (definitely say yes to the sherry when they offer!) I have had the soup trio a few times but the She Crab is always the best....you would think I would learn by now! About half of the entree choices remain fairly stable and others are more seasonal or change periodly. The scallops and halibut were very good, but I usually end up choosing the special or a mixed grill, which were always great. Chef Seth will usually greet you personally at you table and ask about any dietary restrictions or allergies. Feel free to ask him anything including recommendations or modifications if you desire. He is extremely welcoming, friendly and accomodating. Great selection of specialty cocktails, and bartenders always seem to give a generous pour. No watered down drinks here! Wine list is not extensive but provides a good range to satisfy most aside from the most pretentious oenophiles. Save room for dessert.

Straight-up I'm giving them 3 stars because they just opened, there is room for improvement, and there was not an option to give them 2 and 1/2 stars. The bread here tastes like it sat in the frozen section at Sam's way to long. It was not very good. Here is what I tried: Shrimp cocktail, trio of soups, trio of salads, escargot, bison, beef wellington, and the classic mangoes cigar dessert. Shrimp cocktail - the slaw that was served with this in a martini glass was okay but the shrimp themselves were not good. Trio of Soups - French Onion soup was way off, asparagus (the one I liked the most but still not great), and a salmon chowder of some sort. None of these were great. Trio of Salads - my favorite part about this was the large tomato that came with the wedge, the caesar was just okay, and the last one was a spinach and crab meat salad with diced eggs. You could not tell a difference between the crab and eggs because there was so much dressing on this salad. Escargot - was all wrong. Sauce was way to heavy. It tasted to be frank, SICK. Bison - was extremely tough, and not that flavorful. Beef Wellington - mashed potatoes were cold and chunky. Where I come from Beef Wellington is served in a pastry not 2 little pastry like crisps standing by the beef. I was one of the only females at the table and they served me this first. I waited between 5-10 minutes for them to bring out everyone else in the party's entrees. That is a bit ridiculous. You cannot expect me to dig into my plate with a table full of men waiting for their food. Echo you need to work on that. Mango's Classic Cigar Dessert - this was actually decent. I like the idea that they put this dessert on their menu allowing the late Kenny Siao who owned the restaurant Mango, which was in this spot for years, credit for his work. It is definitely a sign of respect and a great marketing technique. Prices are reasonable, staff was friendly, service wise they need to step it up. I saw a table trying to get a servers attention because they were served a soup without a spoon. I really want this restaurant to succeed. There needs to be more competition in the Bearden area and I like this place. I have always loved that location. I will go back to this place again because like I said, I want this place to succeed. Don't try any of the items I have listed but try something else. It might be better. Enjoy and Cheers.

My friends and I scheduled a ladies night and met at Echo. The wine was expensive (good selection) but the service was great. The waitress talked me into trying the steak Tartare and it was awesome. When one of the women arrived late, the chef came out and promised to get her order out immediately. I would have liked some cool "wine bar music" to complete the experience, but will definitely go there again.

Outstanding service. The she crab soup is better then the she crab soup I've had in Charleston. The blackened red fish is great. A must try. The seafood in the Oriental Chinatown Express was very fresh and great tasting. The Chef came out to the table to meet us, discuss food allergies, and answer any questions about the menu. The Chef came out after the dinner to see how the food was. I love this personal touch. This restaurant is great!
