Seasonal update! Green chile fest- we came for tamales but were FORCED to try the Fat Daddy Enchiladas and they were spectacular! They are quite spicy, but we like that! Staff recommended enchiladas over tamales and take their word, take my word, the enchiladas are the chile fest winners. It's not on the everyday menu so go check it out before Sept 6! Previous review: We arrived right at closing time on Christmas Eve but manager generously unlocked the door for us and welcomed us in for a quick meal. Thanks for being so accommodating! Most unique Mexican food in Knoxville. THIS is the kind of Mexican food I grew up with in Colorado and is hard to find in Knoxville. No wimpy tomatillo salsa posing as green chili here, they use real green chilies and sinus clearing spices! As the website touts, the atmosphere is loud, especially in the main dining and bar areas. Probably wouldn't bring my 87 year old granny here unless she had already hit the wine box. Do not be lured in by the Elvis chicken! Go for the Mexican dishes. The Friday special pork tacos are excellent, Chica Chica Boom Boom Enchiladas will satisfy almost anyone and its fun to say. The appetizer plate is delicious (but you'll be too full to eat your entree afterwards). Oh! I almost forgot! Creamy Jalepeno dip. Trust me you want creamy Jalepeno dip.

It's awesome when a restaurant lives up to one's expectations. Chuy's did and then some. Delicious Tex/Mex food, fabulous decor, fast and friendly service! The Trifecta of a great dining experience. I had the cheese Chilli Relleno with ranchero sauce and my husband had the Steak Fajitas. They were both out of this world. The refried beans were amazing with mild chilis and seasoned well. The pico de gallo was fresh and had lovely diced red onions. The decor is fun and creative and the ambiance is very festive. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Our food came fast and hot and the portions were extremely generous. This is the sort of place you will want to tell people about!

I could write a really negative review about Chuy's because I hate chains and West Knoxville, but the reality is that Chuy's is fantastic! Their menu is extensive, and the staff is always really cool and helpful. And they have this salsa. They call it "something ranchero blah blah blah". Who cares what they call it? If you ask for that crack dip, they know EXACTLY what you're talking about, and they'll serve it with amplitude and vigor. The stuff is magical and I crave it regularly. It's not just the crack dip though. All the food is great. It's weird in the way that Austin is weird(coincidentally Chuy's headquarters), and it's the kind of weird that you want all up inside you, and when it is, you'll have a funny waddle from trying to eat all the chips, and their gigantic portions of food. TL;DR - Want some tasty Tex-Mex food that will get all up in you and make you walk funny? Chuy's.

I love this place! We sampled a bit of everything, and we especially loved the Chica-Chica-Boom Boom and the potato-chip fried chicken. I think our waiter had sampled every single dish and was great at helping us decide what to pick. Very fun atmosphere, too.

Just had their creamy mix which is the best I've ever eaten. Love the spice. Also had enchanlatas with text mex.

I used to frequent these all the time when I lived in San Antonio, they're out of Austin I do believe and that is home to some fine, fine Tex-Mex. The Knoxville location measures up in every respect. Visited yesterday and was sat immediately. If you've never been to one of these, the decor and vibe is a big part of the experience, kind of an Elvis kitsch and found art feel. I had the chicken enchiladas with the tomatillo sauce, yum! Oh, ask for the jalapeño cream sauce for the chips, the best sauce ever! But you gotta ask for it. My friend had the chika-boom-boom. Our food came out super quick and piping hot! Think our total tab for both entrees and one soda was right at $25. This place is laid back and casual, lot of servers with tats, which I like. Our server was friendly, attentive and efficient. Pleased to have one of these here in Knoxville.

Steak burrito was excellent! A key component for me is how well the steak is marinated, especially when it is combined with other things like a burrito, the spice over the burrito is quite unique, it reminds me of Japanese curry, sweet with a kick at the end that ends an authentic touch to this Mexican dish. By far one of my favorite things about chuys are the tortillas. There is nothing quite like a fresh tortillas. The tast is like no other Mexican restaurant in town. Music is quite unexpected for a Mexican restaurant but since they are chain I guess that's their thing. Great flare with the decorations throughout the restaurant!

Upon walking in, was seated right away. Fresh salsa with thin chips. Jennifer is our waitress.. Doing a great job. Ordered the shrimp fajitas. They were ok. Not my favorite but its good. Dont much care for their tortillas shells.. Dont think I will be coming back...

"Holy Guacamole! Freshest Ingredients of any Tex Mex cuisine in town." I stopped in at the Knoxville Chuys for a lunch and was superbly happy with the outdoor patio, service, and especially the food. The freshness of the avocados, lettuce, tortillas, and salsa are second to none, and the lunch service is pleasingly swift. The differentiation at Chuys is the famous jalapeno ranch dip that is served complimentary with their warm chips and well mixed salsa. The lunch menu is also quite diverse and offers a great mix of inexpensive dishes for every pallets including a vegetarian option. I had the #9 Chicken Combo which is a tantalizing Chicken Chalupa, and includes a homemade corn tortilla fried and topped with refried beans, cheese, freshly-roasted, hand-pulled chicken, lettuce, tomatoes & jalapeños, soft fajita chicken taco & guacamole. I will certainly be visiting this resturant again, and recommend you do the same if you are in the mood for a great atmosphere with equally great Tex Mex.

It's nice to see that this Texas chain has blown up and expanded throughout the Southeast. This chain comes as advertised, fulfilling promises of Tex-Mex and massive portions, but their greatest attribute might come in the way of a margarita that you can't stop drinking until you have brain freeze. And, at that point, who really cares about the Mexican anyway, right? While they could have much better chips here (the entire chain has the same ones) their salsa is a spicy and their ranch based dip will be something you won't want to overlook. With that said, the menu is large and diverse. If you want to gain a true scope of what this chain offers try something that has their green or red chili sauce. Their burritos are massive. the chicken fajitas are large enough for two and while my flautas were overcooked and bone dry, normally they are very good. In short, if you enjoy Mexican, you'll become a fan here and leave several pounds heavier without spending too much money.

Sweet Sweet Chuy's, how I love you. This could be the Whole30 talking but this sounds so great right now. I've tried about everything and I love it all. The chips are super thin and crispy, yum. The salsa has a very bright fresh flavor and the creamy jalapeno dip is addictive. I usually get the steak burrito or tacos. The tortillas are so fluffy, delicious. The Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is consistently great and very spicy. The fajitas come with an outrageous amount of fixin's so you aren't quick to run out of pico or cheese. Sitting at the bar has always proved to be a weird experience and I definitely prefer a table or the outside patio. It seems like they have "cleaned house" in the bar so grab a drink while you wait for your food... especially at weekly happy hour when they have free queso, etc. This is place is not to be compared to somewhere like Che Guevara and this place is not for food elitists. It is what it looks like - a tex-mex chain with some pretty good food.

  • Stephanie D.

I'm not one to frequent a chain, but this place is essential for my homesick texan husband and myself. Our go tos are the beef fajitas or the chicka chicka boom boom. The creamy jalapeño, delicious margaritas, and the always fresh, fluffy, and delightful flour tortillas are what sets it apart for me. We order it to go dangerously often and it holds up perfectly in transport.

Reminds me of Tex Mex. EXCELLENT food. Will definitely be back Staff is very friendly and courteous! Price excellent. Best guacamole around!!!!

The hubcaps on the ceiling is a nice touch. The food was fantastic! I didn't try any drinks, so I can't tell you about that.

I'm a bit of a 'Chuysaholic'. My wife and I typically eat there once a week. We absolutely love it! I've had just about everything on the menu and I like all of it! The drinks are always good an strong and there is a wide selection of Mexican brews. The salsa is always fresh and delicious. They will also give you a dish of the creamy jalapeño ranch for dipping your chips. This stuff should be outlawed! It's amazing and I could just drink it straight. My favorite dishes are the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (spicy chicken enchiladas) and the Elvis combo (pretty much a little taste of everything). They have weekly specials that are awesome too (get the pork tacos on Saturday)! They make their tortillas in house and they're always hot and fresh! They also provide free chips, salsa and nacho toppings during their happy hour! Be weary, because it's usually packed during this time and you may have to throw an elbow to get a few chips and some queso. The place is typically packed all week so be prepared to grab a drink and hang by the bar until your table is ready. Don't be turned off by vibe. It is a chain tex-mex joint in the middle of Cedar Bluff, I get it. When the food is delicious and always hot and fresh, does it really matter? ....no, no it doesn't!

  • Michael G.

Think Chili's, but only with the tex-mex food and not the rest of the menu. The salsa was very similar, but not as good. The chips were very similar as well. I had heard about the queso, so we ordered some of that to start. It's was good, but I could think of 20 places where I'd rather get queso. I had a taco and enchilada combo plate for dinner. The taco was really good. The enchilada decent. We also requested some of the tomatillo salsa. I usually love green salsa. This was only okay. The margarita was also decent. The good stuff: - our server was really great. good personality, and fun to be around. - the house made tortillas are delicious. i ate a couple of those with the salsa Overall, it was okay. Not sure why anyone would wait 20 minutes to get in like we did with so many other restaurants around. I probably won't go back only b/c there are better options nearby and b/c I'd have to drive past a couple of Chili's to get there. But I am glad that I went once to experience it for myself and to see what all the hype was about.

The first time we tried Chuy's after the grand opening, I didn't like it at all. But I have done a turn around and now I love it! Love the frozen sangria! I typically get the crispy tacos which are excellent. My children usually get hamburger and devour it!! And the queso is a must!!!!

  • Leesa P.

Ordered bacon wrapped pork rellenos for an early dinner. Sat at the bar and was promptly delivered chips and salsa. Very friendly bartender who made several good recommendations on both my drink snd dinner. Delicious entree and the creamy jalapeño dip was great on everything!

  • Bryan M.

This place is always a win. We go here quite a bit for birthday dinners, and also just to go out with friends. The wait has never been that long, and the food is pretty quick for coming out. It is pretty cool how you can watch them make the tortilla shells. The quesadillas are very good, and i would recommend getting the ranch jalapeño dip with your chips, or pouring over your dinner! Happy eating!

    (4)
  • Sara W.

Great Mexican/Tex-Mex! Food is full of flavor and the service was great. The server had even given us a sample of a dip for the chips that was some Spicier ranch dip and it was great, it was a nice alternative to the salsa.

    (5)
  • Jennie B.

The chips are paper thin--love! Better yet they are served with a jalapeno ranch dressing. Dip into the ranch, then the salsa, then indulge. The entrees are huge. One feeds 2 (or 3 if you eat like me). Every dish I've had is excellent. Tres leches dessert is sensational. My recommendation is to have them go easy on the cream on the plate. The cake is SO good that you really want to taste it and not have it sopping up all the cream into a ball of mush. A little cream is fine. Always busy too. Bar area (stools and tables) is first come first serve.

This place is a chain with a terribly, cookie-cutter looking exterior. So my "dine local" snobbery was in overdrive every time I drove past the place. That's really not fair, and I'm glad I gave Chuy's a try. Let's start with the happy hour salsa bar. Or really, the make your own nacho's bar. I'm more than okay with any place that serves free beans, beef, salsa, and queso at the nacho bar. I mean free protein is free protein! Once inside, I discovered the place is actually cute. There is plenty of room for small and large parties and a pretty large bar area. My tacos were good (not great), but I liked that they came with corn tortillas as the primary tortilla option. My server was also very good. This place can't replace my favorite Tex-Mex in Knox, but I'd be a fool not to show up for that happy hour nacho bar.

    (3)
  • Brian J.

Cops and salsa are delicious but other than that this place is not as good as a fiesta joint normally is. It might be good for those that aren't crazy for Mexican and want more American, but when iI want Mexican I'm heading somewhere else

  • Krystyn M.

My current favorite restaurant in town. Best chips to be found, delicious salsa and gotta love the jalapeño ranch dip too! The fajitas are excellent!!

  • Kyle I.

Good food. The one at opry mills in Nashville is better for sure. But everything was good. Friendly staff. I gave it a 4 star only because they didn't bring the creamy jalapeño sauce with the chips but ask and you shall receive for no charge and the one in Nashville just seemed to taste better. Overall still good.

Love Chuys...great menu, great value, friendly wait staff. Chuys is our favorite Happy Hour destination...margaritas are fantastic and super refreshing...can't beat the free appetizer bar. We usually eat in the bar because it's easier to get a seat on a crowded Friday evening.

    (5)
  • EllieMae C.

Your servers need somewhere else to "hang out" besides the hallway next to he bar. Loud noisy and rude.

typical franchise tex mex. Skip the wait and go to Soccer Taco!

  • Kayla F.

Food is always amazing here, I've never once had anything I didn't like. I've also always had great servers, until yesterday. She was horrible. She took forever to get to our table, they used to make you ask for the jalapeño ranch so I asked and she rudely cuts me off and said she already did bring it. She comes back and asks for our drink order, she asks if the kids want to share a drink (what kid wants to share?). Gets our food order, we get our food, great. She doesn't come back, ever. UNTIL, someone at our table goes to the bar and gets a drink. Then she found the need to come back to scold him (not that he got a drink from the bar), but because they were having a contest for how many people they could get to order the prickly pear margarita. She never even asked if we wanted one in the first place. If she's going to get bent, she needs to find a new job.

We had the mixed fajitas they really out did themselves. Loved having good mexican food.

I'm a real New Mexican food snob. And I must say this is by far the best New Mexican food I've had east of Tucumcari. I had the relleno and enchilada plate. Both were made fresh and come with your choice of fillers. They offer several varieties of sauces and I went with the Hatch Green Chile. The food was excellent, service was very good and the decor is retro cool. Very family friendly and was overall a great experience. If you're into good New Mexican food I would highly recommend this place. Our server was Joseph, great job dude!

  • Addy C.

The food at Chuy's is pretty good but agree w/ some of the other reviews - the service needs better training. First our server forgot our salsa - the manager ended up getting it for us. Also our table ordered two beers and while they brought the bottles they didn't bring any glasses. The last service fail was not bringing plates for our fajitas. FYI, this review is based on a visit in June so hopefully service is better now. COMPLIMENTARY CHIPS & SALSA They have all kinds of salsa (check your menu for a list) - I'd been to the Atlanta location a few times, and our favorite (if you like spicy) is the Green Chile Hatch which is served warm. I walked around to see if they had a self-serve chips & salsa bar like Atlanta but they don't. CHICKA-CHICKA-BOOM-BOOM - $9.99 Probably my favorite item on the menu. If you like spicy, get this dish -- the enchiladas and rice are both pretty spicy. COMBO FAJITAS FOR ONE - $12.79 After several visits of leftovers when ordering the combo for two, my parents always get the combo for one and it's way plenty for them. They just order extra beans and rice ($1.59) and the portion ends up being just right. My sister enjoyed her RIO GRANDE ENCHILADA ($8.99), and her husband thought the chicken was dry for his DELUXE CHICKEN ENCHILADA ($9.29). Overall other than a few service issues, we always love going to Chuy's. This place is crowded all the time so to avoid long waits, you might try to avoid peak meal times.

  • Jodie S.

I like Chuys for their unique spin on Mexican. It's not the typical American treatment...a bit more spice and flavor from the southwest. Some of the best fajitas anywhere, mamas stacked enchiladas, and you can't forget the chips and jalepeno ranch dip.

    (4)
  • Katie P.

I really like their food. Their fajita nachos are my favorite thing on the menu. They queso dip is also anither favorite. My husband loves their fajitas and enchiladas. As well as their house dip and salsa. Its very neatly decorated inside. The only complaint I have is there is no lunch menu so the prices are the same for lunch and dinner. They have a seperate bar in another room seperate from the main dinning room. There as an outdoor area as well with rain shields if it does rain. I highly recommend dinning here!

  • I G.

Let me start with the highlight of the meal my wife's frozen mango margarita. Actually tasted like they may have used some real fruit and plenty of alcohol. We each had the taco salad with the beef fajita meat. Salad was OK, meat very dry and not much of it, alot of lettuce (mostly), not enough guacamole ...kind of a boring taco salad... The service was very good but we were also there after lunch hour rush. Overall high marks for drinks and service, mediocre marks for the food. Probably will not hurry back here anytime soon. One more thing, very very noisy!

    (3)
  • Susan C.

Visited Chuy's for supper Saturday night and the food was fabulous and service was great (thanks Kathleen!!!). Try the tomatillo sauce on everything (it's great) and the tres liche cake was just to die for!!! Share it w a friend unless you are really hungry. We'll be back when In town again.

We frequent this place as they always deliver great food. Love the handmade fresh tortillas. Very good service here. Manager has shown himself and keeps up on customer satisfaction. Good fresh mex! Reminds me of Chevys back home!

  • Christina B.

I really enjoyed this place for it being a Tex-Mex franchise. The happy hour is great (nachos and discounted drinks). I like the choices of salsas and the fresh chips. I had the stuffed avocado both times I have been. It was obviously awesome both times ;) the margaritas are pretty good for being a cheap drink. The place is a bit noisy. Staff is nice & bathrooms clean (both are a plus) I will be back ... Probably for a stuffed avocado!

I'm originally from Austin , and lived a mile from the original location for 10+years before moving to Colorado . I have a love affair with Chuys. I could not contain my excitement when I went to visit my parents in Knoxville while 4 months pregnant and my mom told me they have a Chuys now. We went immediately. The food is just as good as the original. Was not able to try their margaritas , but hoping when I go visit this summer again, they will taste the same too. Service was great even though they were busy. I think our server was named Chris , and when he saw me crying from pure joy "remember I was pregnant :) ) he brought me a free tres Leches for a desert. Great place, so glad they have a location here!

    (4)
  • Eddie O.

Margarita- Had the house and it was decent in a good way. I have high standards for Ritas. Made with real lime juice which gave it a fresh, acidic kick and the right amount of rim salt. Entree- I ordered the flautas which is a lighter option for Mexican but I eat plenty of chips before. Tortillas made in house. Service was top notch. Fast, friendly, and great customer service. Decor - The only knock on this evening, The ceiling is lined with used hubcaps. It's very shiny and tacky. Requesting a patio table on a nice evening might be a better option.

  • Jeff E.

Chuy's is a great place to get the closest Tex-Mex experience you can find outside of Texas. If you don't try the carne guisada you are stupid and should never eat food again. Eating here without a beer or margarita is a criminal offense.

    (5)
  • Neal D.

Even though Chuy's is a chain, it's a from Austin, TX. As such, it's alright in my book. I mean, you're not going to get real Sonoran, interior, or Baja Mex. You get Tex Mex. And that's fine. After you've tried the Boom Boom sauce, it's more than fine. Admittedly, I go primarily for their happy hour. Cheap(er) 'ritas, both frozen and rocks. If you're taking the frozen route, know that they're all pretty dang sweet. Oh, best part about happy hour? All you can eat nachos!

    (4)
  • TB H.

Big portions of great food. Plus it's decently priced. Insane wait times if you go for dinner but you might be able to avoid the masses by squeezing in the bar. Just try not to get caught up in the terribly painted chihuahua art.

    (4)
  • Jon D.

Chuy's always delivers. The only place all our kids will eat and clean their plate. Plus the prices are reasonable and easy to share a meal to save a few bucks and have more than enough to eat. The tortilla soup is excellent as are the Pancho's with fajita steak as well as the #6. Order the chile relleno with boom boom sauce. You'll be glad you did.

  • Brittney L.

I grew up in Austin and recently moved here. I can tell you that the food at this particular Chuy's is off from the stuff I am used too. The salsa is watery and doesn't have the kick I am used too. The chicken has no flavoring at this location. Like at all. What I see people on here complaining the most about is that it is Mexican food, it is not. It is suppose to be Tex-Mex however because of how sub-par the food is compared to the other Chuy's (which I have practically been raised on) I am glad Tex isn't in the name at all at this location. The staff need to kick it up a notch. The first time I went to this Chuy's the service was horrible. Our server never filed up our drinks, at all. She never brought us our food, someone else did, and she took over 20 minutes to bring us our check after we paid. Which we had to get from someone else also because our waitress disappeared. The service is such a hit or miss that this place shouldn't pass as a Chuy's. Don't get me wrong we have had some really great servers but when you get a bad one, run! This place needs to step up so it can actually be called Tex-Mex.

Super yum! Although, in all fairness, i only get the same thing every time we go....steak fajitas. The meat is amazing! However....the vegetables are a bit skimpy. I wish they cut them a bit thicker and reduced the onion to peppers ratio to be a little more fair to the peppers. :) The tortillas are just amazing! Made right there in the restaurant. For desserts i have tried the tres leches (i have no idea how to spell that)....it was very rich and yummy. I also tried the sopapillas (can't spell that either). I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GO THERE AGAIN AND NOT GET THE SOPAPILLAS! So, i can only speak for the few things i have tried (3 in total), but so yummy!

My wife and have been here a couple of times. Not sure why people like it so much. The food was mediocre at best. They did have good drinks and the staff was friendly.

Went to Chuy's because some friends recommended the place. On a Sunday afternoon we waited longer for our table (10min) than for our food which came in about 7 minutes! Props to the organization and collective team effort. I ordered steak burrito and the lady had boom boom chicken. Both were very good especially the steak burrito definitely had a good charcoal flavor. Asked for hot suace because I like it habenero got and waitress brought two house made sauces that had flavor! A treat to find a place that had an Asheville feel in Knoxville! Keep on keeping on!

We arrived right at closing time on Christmas Eve but manager generously unlocked the door for us and welcomed us in for a quick meal.

Okay so it's not the Mexican food I grew up with back home in California, but it's not bad considering. The ambiance is great and the crew is really friendly. Their salsa selection is spot-on as well. The only onegative I have to say is that every time I have eaten here my food's temp has been just above warm. If food is made fresh, you expect it to come out hot! As far as food to eat; the chicken tortilla soup is great, and very authentic. I also suggest the taco plate or the fajitas. The chips are great too, they remind me of Chevy's (another chain that actually started in Scottsdale AZ). Cheers, Lance

Excellent restaurant with a flair on your typical Mexican. Tex Mex menu with fresh ingredients and a great (free) nacho cart in the bar. Margarita was great as well. Definitely recommend!

Mehhhh. I'm Mexican and from southern CA, so I have high expectations when it comes to Mexican food. I was unimpressed. The service was good but there is nothing authentic about this place. The food...bleh.

Tonight was my first time eating here and I loved it! The food was really good, didn't have to wait long for drinks or food, and the the service was wonderful. Can't wait to go back!!

I'm not even a fan of tex-mex but I love the bang bang fish tacos here. Request them grilled on corn tortillas (the way fish tacos should be made!) and with the creamy jalapeño on the side so they aren't soggy. The salsa is really fresh. My husband gets the bean and cheese burrito with the boom boom sauce and not only is it HUGE, but it is also really good. The refried beans are good (maybe a tad too salty... as are the chips) but I'm not really a fan of the rice here. I prefer authentic Mexican rice to either of the options at Chuy's. It's somewhat of a drive for us, but it is worth it.

    (4)
  • Sam S.

Food is good the service was great. My steak burrito was really big but not a lot of meat. Less wrap more meat please. Smaller is ok if you get more meat to tortilla ratio. I will be back this is a great place!

  • John N.

Our server was friendly enough, and the atmosphere is high-energy. The decor has a fun cantina-meets-50's style diner vibe, but the food is terrible. My son got a cheese quesadilla, and it was a big, greasy, salty mess. It didn't look remotely appetizing. My wife and I shared a combination platter that consisted of three different enchiladas, a crunchy taco, rice, and beans. It was all very muddled and just "blah". The food was not fresh. The flavors were bland and nondescript. The service was friendly, but needs a lot of work. The food runners would drop our food off, but never offered anything that would complete the meal (ketchup for the fries, utensils to eat our food with). I had to consistently get up to track down condiments or our server. All three of us now have upset stomachs and are regretting ever stepping foot in that place. Taco Bell runs circles around Chuy's.

Better than usual Mexican food for Knoxville. That is not saying much. americanized mexican food with what sounded like 80s electric pop piped in This place fills up quick but really nothing stands out as great or bad.

Amazing food! We're driving from Albuquerque to Florida to Cleveland. We've eaten at so many restaurants but this is by far the best. The service was incredible. We had the nicest gal waiting on us too. We wanted to buy Moonshine while in town but it being Sunday, not allowed. The owner/manager? told me to give her my address and she would send me some. Talk about going out of your way!

Our family goes out for dinner once a month, so we make the decision carefully! My son was in the mood for Mexican, so after much discussion we decided to try Chuys to see what all the fuss was about. To be fair, my husband loved his steak burrito, but that was the only item that was acceptable. The salsa had a strange foam around the edge-- not a good sign in food service! The queso was pricey, runny, and the half-full ramekin was put on our bare table by the third person who asked us if we had ordered queso. I am pretty sure they took it from another table because it did not appear to be fresh, and there was a broken chip suspended in the dish. Yuck. I guess my husband was wise to choose steak, because the rest of us chose chicken (stacked enchilada, "Chuychanga," and burrito) and what little chicken there was had no seasoning. So, Chuys won't get any more of our dining dollars, but there is now a new punch line in the family dinner lexicon-- guaranteed to evoke groans and laughter when we discuss future outings! We grabbed Thai takeout for my daughter on the way home and slipped my son some cash for Moe's Monday when we dropped him at his dorm. So, we are 10 and one on restaurants for 2014, and as my daughter said, "At least Thanksgiving is later this month!"

It was alright. Ordered a chile relleno and it came deep fried, which was interesting. Not what I was expecting, but not bad. It was around $11 (got the boom-boom sauce on it). For the same price, you'd get better quality at a real Mexican restaurant, though. Not sure if I'd go back.

Wow! What a great restaurant. I think Knoxville has the corner market on Mexican Restaurants and they are pretty much all the same... until now! This is a great Tex-Mex mix restaurant and they were delicious! No typical enchilada sauce or fajita flavoring here for sure! This place just opened up yesterday and by 7 p.m. they had an hour and a half wait. We were lucky to hit it early and only waited about 15 minutes to sit down. The inside is very unique. One ceiling has hubcaps covering it, various colors all around, and the staff wear jeans / shorts with the Chuy's T-shirt. Although it's a new building, it is made to look like an older inside with various woods and mix-matched tables / chairs. The staff did a fantastic job for opening night! The food was delicious. My husband had enchiladas with a white creamy herb sauce. Although he isn't into Mexican food like I am, he loved this. I had fajitas and the meat was wonderfully cooked with a hint of lime. They make nearly everything by hand and when you first walk in, you notice some of the staff making tortillas behind glass. That's all they do all day long. Making blue, big, little, brown, all kinds of tortillas for chips and various meals. Their queso dip was much better than typical queso dip. Then the manager recommended the Tres Leches dessert. I thought it was heavenly! Light and airy cake in whipped creamy cream and caramel over it. We left overfilled and very satisfied! The parking is next to Kroger's parking so it's not far to find a spot even if they are busy. You can't miss the building either. It's brilliant yellows, pinks, blues and greens inside and out. Nothing boring about this place. Highly recommended and the best place I've been in a while. Definitely my kind of Mexican food!

This place can be looked at one of two ways. If you're into fun decor and your Mex cuisine tastes lean more towards Taco Bell, Chuy's is for you. Unfortunately I'm an "authentic cuisine" kind of guy. I had a plate of enchiladas, rice and beans with a Coronarita. My dish tasted as though it were simply assembly line food. It tasted bland and loveless. As though someone read the directions on the box and assembled it. I did try the tacos, which almost salvaged the visit for me, but not enough to return short of an invite. *smh* In all, if you don't have high expectations for (slightly) foreign cuisine, you may enjoy this, but for much broader palettes, you'll likely be disappointed at this particular trip to the border.

Went to this place for the first time today. We got seated right away then it went kinda down hill from there. We started with a server who was nice but after ordering coffee told us it was terrible and recommended something else, then right after that we got moved to a different server who was nice but wasn't up to speed on our table. We ordered and our food came out not long after. I ordered the Chuy Special enchilada, it was ok but the rest of the plate was your typical not great tex mex. Overall everyone was nice and food was decent but just another sub-par tex mex place in my book.

We gave Chuy's a try again after receiving a very nice email from the manager. This time our wait time was exactly at the 30 minutes as promised (for our party of 7). Instead of requesting a high chair I brought my own booster seat in the event they just don't have enough. Food was great. Our server, Alex, did a fabulous job. Ended the meal with the authentic sopapillas. Yum! Definitely redeemed our last experience. We'll be back.

Stopped in for a quick bite and saw a great atmosphere and great wait staff. Had an awesome steak burrito. Chips and cells-a was wonderful. Don't drive by.

Nothing too special about the place. The food was good and the service was fine. The only thing that sets this place apart, in my opinion, is the tons of different salsas/sauces you can get. The place claims to have burritos "as big as your face", but really were an average size compared to other restaurants. I guess I don't have a big enough face. I do like it enough to come back though, just not my first choice for Mexican fare.

I liked it. I've heard the service can be hit or miss. My experience was a hit. The waitstaff was friendly and fast. My food was yummy. My drink was good, too. Next time I'm in town, I'll be back!

Mediocre at best. 5 better Mexican or TexMex places within 5 minutes, with no wait. Pelanchos, Jalisco, El Charro, Casa Don Gallo and Soccer Taco all have better Mexican/Tex-Mex. It is no better than Chilis. Selections are bland, meet is over-cooked and tough, tortillas are tough and sauces have no flavor.

I had the Chuychanga, again, and it was still about the same. Maybe a bit better. They were unable to make an Old Fashioned due to their lack in stock of bitters, but offered to make a trip to the local liquor store to obtain some. Instead of this special trip, I switched the order to a whiskey and coke. Surprisingly, they made it just about perfect. I've also since tried their To Go service. My wife had the Flautas and I had the Chuychanga. The Chuychanga was excellent as were the Flautas. We also had a shorter wait time, though I dislike this location's To Go procedure. Instead of allowing the bar to handle the To Go orders like many of the establishment's other locations, you are asked to stand to the side near the hostess while your order is pulled - this can make for a very packed entrance on busy nights. I would suggest this location follow suit and allow the bartenders to handle the To Go orders.

The food at Chuys is REALLY good Tex-Mex. Compared to it's competitors they are a little on the spicy side but I LOVE this - you can get bland cheese/beans/meat rolled up in a tortilla anywhere! IMHO, Chuys is the best Tex-Mex in Knoxville. I've been to this location a few times and the food has been great and the service has been good each time. With the exception of higher end restaurants , I have found that service can always be hit or miss at ANY casual dining restaurant (i.e. - see my review on Chuys in Nashville here: yelp.com/biz/chuys-nashv… ) but my experiences at this location have been nice. My take on servers is that most of them are making $3/hour so poor servers will get low tips and weed themselves out! Unfortunately, sometimes we all have to encounter these poor servers on their way through the system. That said, I see the company as having a responsibility to hire GOOD MANAGERS. So, when a problem does happen, the manager can make it right - this is a key distinction in how good restaurants are operated. Good managers/leadership is key! I had one issue on a take out order being messed up, I lobbed in a call and the manager was very apologetic and offered to make it right. I told him I wasn't driving 20 minutes back to the store, and he promptly offered to mail me a coupon for a free entree on a future visit. It was my wife's order that was messed up and he even asked to speak with her so he could apologize directly (nice touch). I get that mistakes happen, and he made a proper attempt to make it right - which is what counts.

I thought it was pretty good, but can't even compare to Chez Guevera. Certainly not worth the long waits.

You can't miss the brightly colored building at the edge of the road. It is just as colorful inside as it is outside. We waited until we thought it would be a little slower, about 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. When we walked in they told us it would be 15-20 minutes. That's fine because I knew it would take me forever to figure out what I wanted. We sat down with a menu and barely even glanced at the drink menu before our pager went off! We were brought chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. The chips are great, nice and thin, and the salsa tasted so fresh, full of tomatoes finely diced. The noise level inside was barely tolerable. Next time I will try to sit outside. I had questions for our server, who honestly was not very helpful, and I could not even hear what he was saying. I settled on a swirl margarita and the Elvis Presley Memorial Combo. Mom had sangria and the #6. We both loved all our food and I loved my margarita but I don't think we would recommend the sangria. My taco and tostada chips came on a second plate. As I was eating my last tostada chip my server swooped by and picked up the plate. He was gone before I even knew what happened. I wasn't done as there was a ton of melted cheese I was going to scrape off. Dude, you really should ask people if they are finished with a plate before you grab it. As a big fan of Tex Mex I am very pleased we finally have an authentic restaurant here and I don't have to wait for my Western trips. The sauces are all great. The ones that did not come on my combo were the 2 I really wanted to try so they brought us a dish of each which was awesome. The green chile is my fave. The food here tasted like what I had in San Antonio. I probably would have given 5 stars except for the server. He was just so blah. When we were sat there was only one napkin on the table. When we asked him for some napkins he brought us about 4 beverage naps. Um, ok. Messy food, buddy. We meant NAPKINS. his nametag said something weird like Menetto but my receipt said Robert M. Hopefully will get someone else next time. It will take me several trips to try everything I want to try.

The Creamy Jalapeño Ranch is absolutely the most amazing sauce I've ever had on a Mexican dish. Try it with tortilla chips. Chuy's is also a vegetarian friendly restaurant... Woo hoo!

Not impressed! Food was bland and for supposedly fresh food cooked horrible. Second time here and both times poor service. Many better mexican restaurants in town to choose over this place.

This place is great. Wait staff was awesome. Michelle and Court went out of there way to add to our Chuy's experience. Our group was a handful, but not for these two. Michelle and Court were lively, professional, and attentive. Very conversational like we knew them for years! The food was very good, but our servers moved the review to 5 Stars.

It's difficult to find green chili East of the Mississippi. On a recent visit to Knoxville, I was pleased to see that Chuy's offered not just one but many different green chili's on their menu. I had the Hatch New Mexico green chili on my Southwestern chicken enchilada. It was delicious--as good as any green chili I've had in Texas, Colorado or California. I recommend Chuy's. The quality of the tortillas and the salsa was top-notch--made fresh hourly on the premises. I am definitely a fan.

Great addition to Knoxville. Atmosphere 5-star, food 4-star, service 3.5 star. Frozen Margaritas and chile rellanos are out of this world! Chips are nice, thin, and crisp (not quite as good as my favorites from Salsarita's, but close). The handmade tortillas being made are pretty cool to watch. Again, the atmosphere is super cool.

On Monday's try the stuffed avocado! Yummy. Service friendly and fast. Love the nacho bar when you have to wait a bit. Never wait as long as they estimate.

Excellent food and service. Nacho bar during happy hour from 4-7. Highly recommend their soft tacos as the tortillas are made while you wait. Will go again and again.

Food was pretty good, but not anything super special. I recommend the Quesadilla appetizer with fajita chicken. It seems like the kind of place that may have a really fun happy hour.

The New Mexican chain restaurant sits at the new Groger lot at Cedar Bluff and Kingston Pike. I had my eyes on it and finally tried it today. The decor and lighting were excellent and the wait staff were cheerful. If only the food had received as much thought and care. The waitress came by with thin chips and salsa. The chips were light and airy but the salsa was watery and tasted suspiciously like what came out of a costco jar a few blocks down the road. Anzul Tequila down the road has killer home-made salsa. This is unforgivable. Chuy's salsa was overly salty and lack any clean fresh flavor - coming out of costco would have explained it. Unfortunately the rest of the meal made no redemption. The Elvis Combo came with three uninspired enchelada's supposedly one with chimmychurri sauce and one with regular sauce and one with green chili. The green chili was too mild and the rest tasted again, sorry to have to repeat but it is a constant theme with this kitchen, like it came out of econo restaurant supply. When I asked for some kind of topping for my very plain "seasoned beef" taco I was told the restaurant does not have "taco" sauce and would I like tobasaco. Later as I made my way out of the restaurant I took notes of small bowls of chili sauces served with Fajita and thought I coud have used one of those. Back to my entre' - two of my encheladas were filled with cheese and one - the green chili - had cubes of bland chicken pieces. They tasted like prepackaged food. Why stopped here, you can say the same for the refried beans and the spanish rice. I should not have to pay restaurant prices for prepackaged nuggets of this and that thrown together. Banquet's frozen Mexican dinner I heat up in motel microwave on travel tasted better than this. The food have gotten lost here, big time, sorry to say.

Chuys is a must try if you have never been. They have a great menu. If you are starving, try the "big as yo face burrito." Each time we have been to this restaurant we are pleased with the food, service, and the atmosphere. If you are in the mood for a great Mexican dish, try Chuys!
