Bombay Palace has fantastic Indian food at a reasonable price. While my wife and I lived in Knoxville, we frequented the restaurant and enjoyed every visit. The staff was very nice and quite helpful as we explored the menu over our many visits. The dishes were always consistent and you always knew what you were going to get even before you ever tried it (flavors, spiciness, etc.). The restaurant was clean and well-kept. I've been to Indian places in bigger, more ethnically-diverse cities, and I would say that Bombay Palace would be in the top-tier of family-friendly, reasonably-priced establishments in any area. Knoxville, you have a true gem here. Its our most missed restaurant from the area and we're still searching for a suitable replacement here in California. Keep up the good work!

The garlic cripsy naan and the curry lamb is very authentic and delicious. The only thing disappoints me is the curry lamb offered in a small copper bowl is too little. The appetizer indian dumplings filled with ground chicken and peas are not good at all. For drink of mango shake $2.99 you 'd better try it! Yum!

Bombay Palace is THE BEST Indian restaurant in Knoxville. This is a a quality establishment and the owner/manager is very friendly, helpful with great suggestions, and attentive to his customers. Simply outstanding service. The restaurant is clean and bright with interesting decor--a perfect atmosphere for a great meal. The food is outstanding. We ordered vegetable samosas, chicken kabobs, malai kofta, saag paneer, dal, garlic naan, and mango lassi. Better than any Indian food I've had in the DC metro area--and I've tried a great deal there. I recommend Bombay Palace without reservation. Try it, you won't be sorry.

Delicious! Friendly staff. Awesome sugar scrub in the bathroom. Wont disappoint. I had the shrimp mushroom, and it was awesome.

Came through on a roadtrip from Texas and was looking for a good bite to grab on the way through. Was pleasantly surprised with Bombay palace. It is the best Indian I've had I'm the US ( only better was in the UK). I definitely suggest it to anyone. Service was 5, food was 5 and cleanliness was off the chart.

AMAZING. And priced very reasonably. The tikki masala was melt in your mouth good. My mom had the combo platter that was delicious and she got to try some different dishes ( she couldn't choose). We tried the samosas and stuffed naan, both AMAZING. Hands down the best Indian restaurant I have been to. Thanks, Bombay Palace!

I'm from Midwest in an area where we have a multitude of Indian restaurants that are high quality. I came to Knoxville 12 months ago searching for something similar. I have tried every Indian restaurant in town and Bombay is by FAR the best in Knoxville! Staff is extremely friendly and is always very generous to their repeat customers! Food is great! Wife likes the tikka masala and I'm a fan of the saag. Flavors are more robust and they have not completely dulled down their meals to meet typical American palates like some others in town. We refuse to go anywhere else anymore.

Let me just go ahead and get to the meat of this review first, because it's going to be a big 'un: I will be coming back, and regularly. I might even think about setting up a little tent next door and just camping there on weekends, because this was probably the best Indian food I've eaten ever, and the service was fantastic. We went to Bombay for dinner last night, at around 5:30 so that we could beat the terrifying Friday night Turkey Creek crowd, and our plan worked pretty well. Still, already at 5:30, the place was maybe half full - but we didn't have to wait at all for a table. Upon sitting down, we were immediately presented with papadum - which if you don't know, is a very thin, crisp cracker-like thing, made from, I believe, chickpea flour. It was served with two chutneys - mango and onion. I hoarded the onion chutney. Everyone else seemed to like the mango chutney but I didn't take much notice of them because I was honestly too involved with the onion chutney to care. Service was great. Our waiter was teeming with suggestions. He talked a friend of mine into ordering the Chicken Patia, and talked another friend and myself into lamb. "Do you want me to surprise you?" he asked. As said friend and I live on the absolute razor's edge, we both said "yeah, man" and flexed our tattoos and stuff. (We didn't flex our tattoos. I don't even know if you can do that. I don't have any tattoos, honestly. My friend does, but they're distinctly non-hardcore tats. I just wanted us to sound cool.) He ALSO talked us into ordering an appetizer (seriously, this guy could probably sell refrigerators to Eskimos) - the vegetable samosas. Honestly, I have to say I wasn't that crazy about them. Everyone else at the table LOVED theirs though, and I think my problem is not with the way they were cooked, but the nature of samosas themselves. They're very potato-y, and I am not a potato person. (Sorry, potato-loving Irish ancestors.) But if you enjoy samosas, you'd probably enjoy these. The pastry was very crunchy, the filling was hot, and actually, the tamarind sauce served along with it was OUTSTANDING. Tart, a little sweet, perfect. So our meals arrive at our table in a very timely fashion, and I find out that I've gotten Lamb Rogan Josh. That's cool, because Rogan Josh is one of those things I've always seen on menus in Indian restaurants, but I've never tried it because I have a very deep commitment to Vindaloo. Very creamy, spicy - not as hot as I was expecting, but that's okay because I'd rather have it not hot enough than hot enough to burn off my tongue's top layer. The lamb itself was of really good quality. They brough a TON of rice to the table, along with various types of naan. One of my fellow diners ordered the Chicken Patia - chicken in a mango sauce with ginger and scallions. It was a little sweet, but not too bad, and I could definitely taste the ginger and onion in it. The chicken was tender. My friend who got the other lamb surprise ended up with Lamb Bhuna. This was the hit of the night, you guys. It was spicy, garlicky - I think maybe I also tasted some ginger in it too - and it had a really pleasant undertone that I couldn't quite identify. Looking at the menu later I saw that it's cooked with "Himalayan herbs," so whatever herbs they're growing in the Himalayas, they're doing a good job. Servings were large. I am a pretty enthusiastic eater and I still had enough of the Rogan Josh left over to eat for breakfast, which I am doing now. Bombay was definitely one of the best places I've been to in a while - the service was attentive without being overbearing, and the food was so good that I was actually kind of sad when it was over.

Bombay place is below average. We tried the buffet. It was not good except for the naan. I am not sure how the entrees at dinner would be

As an ethnic food fan I've found that Knoxville is sorely lacking in great ethnic restaurants. When my fiance suggested we eat at Bombay Palace I was certain that at best the food would be mediocre. Boy did I eat my words. This place has awesome food. In fact my fiance, who has eaten plenty of authentic Indian, can vouch for the authenticity of the dishes. The daal was the best he has ever had outside of someone's home kitchen. The tikka masala was not as heavy on the cream as it is in most places and maintained more of a tangy taste. The onions and peppers in the sauce weren't my taste but the dish was still quite good. The naan and samosas were probably my favorite part of the meal. Fresh, wonderful spice, and piping hot. They were very tasty with the assortment of chutneys. Service was good. Especially since we were there half an hour before closing time. We never felt rushed or pushed out the door. Definitely going back to try the lunch buffet.

I have eaten Indian food in many places in the US and I think Bombay Palace is the best. Their Tandoori grill is always juicy and fresh and the sauces are also fresh and so tasty. The lamb bhuna is outstanding and the nan's are wonderful, especially the Chili nan. The soups are great with the Palak Shorba being my fravorite. The staff are very pleasant and attentive making a dining experience at Bombay Palace a most enjoyable event.

High quality Indian food. Ranks with the best I've had all over the world. I've had Indian at some of the highest rated in Dublin, London and even Shanghai and this ranks among the best. Eat here often Knoxville - it is a treasure and we need to keep it!!!

First server was hard to understand but then we got an awesome guy who guided us through the menu and gave us desert to experiment with on the house!! This is my first time eating Indian food and I left pleased and excited to come back and experience new things!! Honestly, Bombay Palace had wonderful service, an intriguing menu and a relaxed feel. Go there and enjoy!! They will walk you through the menu and make your experience enjoyable.

Best Food in Turkey Creek area!!! Great atmosphere, nice professional service and outstanding food!!! Definitely on my top 'five' list of restaurants in Knoxville.

Good food and good service, I was hoping for more based on the ratings. The menu is overwhelming with what seems to be over 100 entree options, some may find this a great thing. Our orders were good, but not the best Indian food I have had, espcially considering the price. A solid 3 stars, and we appreciated the complimentary ice cream when we finished dinner.

I went to the lunch buffet today with a friend for the first time. The food was not that hot and there were not as many selections as other restaurants. The naan and the fritters seemed kind of old and cold. Seemed like the flavors just weren't there so I didn't even go back for seconds even though I definitely could've eaten more. The chutneys and the sauces are in a very strange location so I really hope they move those for easy accessibility for customers. Last but not least, too many flies and too warm of the air temperature. Even my thin friend who chills easily said it warm in there. I'm not saying the food is necessarily bad, it just doesn't have the flavors that are going to bring me back for more. Sitar remains at the top of my list until I go to experience The Woodlands in the near future. I guess we'll see if Sitar gets knocked off of their pedestal.

So grateful that this place has opened! The first thing that please me was that they have chaats on the menu. I have eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants and have only seen Chaats about 3 times. The server told me they are labor intensive and not very profitable. The Aloo Chaat (potato patty topped with chickpeas in sauce and an onion chutney-type-thing) was not only delicious but also generous. It was enough for about 3 or 4 people (as an appetizer). There is a good selection of appetizers and they are all reasonably priced. The samosas were crispy and very flavorful. Everything tasted a little, I don't know, cleaner and crisper than is usual at most Indian restaurants. The flavoring wasn't overpowered by excessive cream or oil, as it often is. We also had Channa Sag and Chicken Tikka Masala. Both were also delicious. The servers were very friendly. It wasn't very crowded (well, it was a Tuesday night, but still). Please support this restaurant so we can keep this delicious Indian food in Knoxville/Farragut!

4 1/2 stars for an excellent lunch buffet. Nice service plus a good atmosphere. The servers walked around with fresh, hot, delicious naan. The chicken was tender and flavorful.

Best Indian food in town. Nice yelp reviews drove me here. The Naan was thin and crisp, not doughy at all. Multiple choices of Naan. Very friendly and helpful service We had the Vegetarian Samoa appetizer, which included 2 large lightly fried vegetable patties, hot and very nice. I had the Vegetable Korma and the lady a chicken kabob that came out still grilling via fajita style. The entire meal was tasty and spicy. Staff lets you choose mild, medium, or hot. I choose medium which was spicy enough to leave beads of sweat on the forehead, so it was just right. Lots of food and Basmati rice. Count me in for return trips.

Came here for the Sunday lunch buffet while visiting family in the area. Most of the dishes were decent but the naan was hard (the dough was seriously over worked), one of the entrees was over salted, the meat in the chicken tikka and goat dishes were slighly dry, and my husband said that the yellow rice tasted "off." The service however was quite good and I thought overall this was a decent place to grub - but not a 4+ stars quality restaurant.

Best Indian food I've ever had! This place is Da Bomb! So good it has even converted my boyfriend into a true Indian food LOVER! Way to go, Bombay Palace! *Note - Order Mild spice if you like your Indian just a little spicy. Their version of mild is almost medium spiced to the average eater. I ordered everything mild and was so thankful because I could taste my entire meal! It had enough spice in it between the curries, and cumin, and whatever other exotic spices they use. *App -Vegetable samosa smashed up with green sauce and sweet/tangy sauce was crispy fried to perfection. *Entrees -Chicken tikka masala was incredible. The creamy tomato sauce was spiced well and cubed chicken chunks were super tender. -Sag Panir--sensational. The spinach and Indian cheese in a special sauce could not have been better. The Con -We waited 20 minutes for a table and were not greeted upon arrival. It's kind of awkward when you walk in and there's no open table. You just sort of...stand there... and watch people... eat. And the more you smell the delectable odors emanating from the kitchen, the hungrier (and more impatient) you get. It would be nice if they at least greeted us and told us how long the wait is. -When the kitchen is busy (like yesterday, Saturday night), they won't let you order appetizers separately from entrees, which we sometimes like to do so it ensures enough time between courses. The Pros -They gave us complimentary Naan. It was hot and crispy and fluffy at the same time. -And everything else about this place is a 'pro'! -Once you're seated, the waiters are extremely personable. So friendly and engaging and accommodating. Bombay Palace is a real gem of Knoxville. Go now!

Still love this place. My family and I eat here once a month and go for lunch. My almost 2 year old LOVES this place although it does get rather messy for him. Naan is always good. Went the other day and they had shrimp and chicken kabobs out. I don't eat anything out of water but the chicken was wonderful, very flavorful. Service is always with a smile and they always play with my kid every time we go whether it is pee-a-boo or giving him some tasty mango drink. I will keep going back.

Best Indian food I've had outside of India. I reserve 5 stars for establishments in the top-10% of it's price category, and this one surely gets it. Not only was the food outstanding but the service was very personal and they even comped a dessert. Great dining and cultural experience!

Great food! Fresher than Sitar. Amazing addition to West Knox. Only negative was the fresh food meant slow service. Not a quick stop; but it shouldn't be!

Great atmosphere, the customer service was awesome. If you're in Knoxville Tennessee area this is a restaurant that you must tryout. The food was very very delicious. The owner or manager was a very personable person and made sure that you received the best experience possible.

  • James G.

Absolutely delicious food, arguably the best in Knoxville. The only reason it didn't get five stars was the service needs some work. I got the feeling they are kind of new to the restraunt business. Don't get me wrong the service wasn't necessarily bad at all, it was just a little rough around the edges. Very nice people though, and the food was amazing!

Wow! Just wow! This place had some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Also excellent service. We had: naan, vegetable samosas, meat samosas, chicken tandoori, cubed chicken kebab (can't remember the name), and chicken tikka masala. All was excellent! Just fyi, the grilled dishes, like the kebab, are huge! One entree could serve 2 adults (along with the rice and side of lentil beans-which were delicious but spicy). I live out of state but if I'm ever passing through again, I would stop here again for sure!

Food was wonderful, service was even better, not to mention extremely affordable. We have a 3 year old and a 4 month old and both were smiling through the whole meal. They are wonderful with kids. We had the buffet and will make it a regular habit to gorge ourselves on Bombay Palace's awesome cuisine!!

Love this place! Awesome service and food. Servers are very informative of EVERYTHING on the menu. Their suggestions are always on spot. More than enough food per entree and always delicious. What more is there to say? Scared to try Indian food? Don't be. Anyone can find something to love here!

Best Indian food in Knoxville (I am an Indian guy, so you can trust me on this). Robby makes sure the service is friendly and amazing while cook (owner of the place as well) is making sure to took authentic tasting food anyone would love to have. Prices are reasonable and if you there often enough they would drop-in extras on the house. Unlike many places I have been they are generous in terms of the amount of food that comes with each order as well which makes it even better :)

After reading the ravng reviews, I decided to try Bombay Palace. The restaurant is quite classy inside, not what I expected from a store front. My husband is not a fan of Indian food so I got the order to go. The friendly staff helped me by pointing out some popular dishes. My choice was Chicken Tikka Masala. It was separated into containers so when I got home, everything was the right temperature and fresh. I assembled it myself. It was delicioious. My husband saw how much i enjoyed it and is thinking about trying their kabobs. I plan to go back soon!

This is a nice Indian restaurant out at Turkey Creek. They have a dish, "Karahai", which is in a tomato-onion sauce, which was delicious. I don't see that on many Indian menus. I got chicken, but maybe I'll get paneer next time, because the menu says it's "cooked to perfection." Was the chicken less than perfect? Who knows -- it was awfully good! The garlic naan was much better than most -- very garlicky (not one of those garlic naan's which leaves you asking, "Where's the garlic?"). Everything else was as it should be. We'll return!

Traveling through Farragut, Tn. Really glad we stopped at Bombay Palace. Chicken tikka masala superb. As were the Samosa and Chicken Vegetable. Better than tikka in London, England. Wait staff friendly and efficient. Sorry we are just passing through.

Fantastic experience! Visiting from out of town, and Yelp led our group of 4 to this hidden gem. A few of the reviews said the restaurant was smoky, but not the case during our dinner. Courteous, prompt service, and the hostess gave us complimentary ice cream to finish our meal. Only reason I'm not giving five stars is because I'm not an Indian "foodie," so my basis of comparison is a bit limited.

  • Caroline B.

My friend and I were lucky I suppose and did not have to wait for a table. We arrived at 5pm on a Wednesday so for those who don't like to wait, maybe this is (for the time being) the best time to arrive. I have never given out five stars to a restaurant (check out the ratings I've given) and I hope that this says more than I can convey with words. The food is amazing. The service was amazing. The bill was even better. What we ordered: Meat samosas, vegetarian samosas, chicken vindaloo, vegetarian combination. Seriously good stuff and combined with stellar service is a winner. Why can't all restaurants be this great?

Very good food & service! The Lamb was wonderful... Everything was fresh & hot enjoyed everything I had ordered... Had to take most of the Lamb dish home because i was stuffed from the great appetizers... I had the Pakora for an app & the Lamb Bhuna as a main dish. My favorite thing is the dessert Ghulab Jamun! My friends enjoyed their meal it was the first time they had had Indian food... Keep up the good work there at Bombay Palace

  • Timothy S.

I'm surprised to see so many positive reviews. The food was bland and the spices had a raw and un-refined quality. We had a waiter who had obviously been trained to push appetizers, drinks, and desserts but had an unfortunate way of doing it so that it came out as whining. We did try the mango ice cream. It was served frozen so hard that it was lacking in taste and appeared to have been shipped from somewhere in dry ice. It wasn't so bad that we didn't finish our meal, but I doubt that we will ever go back. Too many other restaurants to try!

Being an American-Desi whose mom's cooking makes anybody else's Indian food look mediocre, I have to concede that I am über excited that I love this place. VERY good punjabi food without all the "I just ate a pint of heavy cream." Being vegetarian, my husband and I have tried a variety of foods here from the simple saabjis (vegetables) to the mouth-watering masala dishes (veggies w/ sauce). My husband highly recommends the paneer tikka masala. However, of you're wanting a healthier alternative, I suggest asking them to put you're fave veggie with the masala sauce. They will try their upmost to accommodate you. The breads are ample in portion and two should be fine sharing one roti or naan between 2 people, although the taste will want you getting more!

  • Anne G.

Have eaten there twice and have enjoyed it tremendously both times. The waiters are friendly and helpful; we have appreciated their recommendations. The garlic nan and the nan that is sweet with sesame seeds are fabulous as is the Chicken Korma. Had two tasty lamb dishes but don't remember the names. My husband says even the leftovers were super. But don't go here when I want to go and make it difficult for me to get a table! :)

  • Gobo B.

I went here for lunch and I was pretty impressed. Their buffet was really good, although I'm not sure if it's better than sitar's. I"m not a huge indian food eater but I liked both places pretty equally. For two people, our total was 17.95, which is not bad at all for a buffet. Some things that stand out in this place from sitar and taj is the service and the cleanliness. The place seemed really clean (they had a health score of 92, which is really good for a restaurant) and the service there was excellent! They were very helpful and super friendly. My glass of water never got empty, and I was pretty thirsty. I"m giving this place 4 stars for now because I"ve only tried their buffet. I"ll rate again later when I come back for dinner, which I've heard from many of my friends is really good.

    (4)
  • A. L.

Well, I tried it again, and I have to say I was still not that impressed. The smoky smell was still there. I honestly don't know how people can't notice it because it is very uncomfortable, even after just a few minutes. About the food.. the chicken tikka masala was good, but it was so tiny a baby could have finished it. But, the real issue was with the biryani. It seemed more like paella than biryani. I don't have a problem with paella, but when I want biryani, it should be biryani, like the ones I had in India and multiple times otherwise. The naan also seemed like it was frozen and not homemade. Maybe it was homemade, but it didn't taste that way and it wasn't "puffy". The papadam was good though. So, I gave it another try, but it's not for me.

Best Indian food in Knoxville. It rivals what I have had in big cities with many very good Indian restaurants. We came on a Sunday at 6pm so it wasn't busy and we didn't experience the slow service others noted. Our waiter was very helpful in helping us decide - there were so many good choices! We will be back and I highly recommend it.

My wife and I ate dinner at Bombay Palace (newly located in Knoxville's Turkey Creek Shopping Center). We have lived and traveled overseas and have always enjoyed Indian Food but have had a hard time finding authentic Indian food. Bombay Palace is adequately decorated and we were warmly greeted upon arrival. The menu was large with various vegetable, chicken, lamb dishes to choose from. I ordered the Chicken Curry and my wife ordered Chicken tikka masala. We shared garlic and regular naan breads. The dishes were ordered to your spicy preference. Each dish came in a personal copper pot and was hot and perfectly spiced. The taste of both dishes were authentic and savory and reminded us of the Indian dishes we have eaten during our travels around the world. This was our fist visit to Bombay Palace and we plan on returning to try more of their authentic Indian dishes

Excellent! We had lunch on our way through town and ordered off the menu. We have eaten at many Indian restaurants over the years and this is in the top five. Loved everything and recommend stoping at this gem nestled at the eastern outskirts of Knoxville.

Lunch buffet was great I left there overly stuffed with a happy belly full of great food, and hot Indian Chai Tea. The service was outstanding super friendly and constantly checking on my satisfaction. I even noticed the entire staff was super friendly and courteous with all patrons and taking time to small talk or to answer any questions and suggestions about what dishes to try on the buffet. I found out this place just recently opened and with the level of service and food quality they have I think they are going to do well.

This placed used to be called "Taste of India" and located in Sevierville. We loved it and used to drive 45+ mins just to eat there, so we were excited when we found out they were moving locally and being renamed "Bombay Palace". We have visited the new location twice- once for dinner (menu) and once for lunch (buffet) and it's the same amazing food we remember. They have an impressive menu- so many delicious choices that it makes it hard to pick- but personally I like the buffet best because you can have a little bit of a lot of different dishes. The service is excellent- the staff is friendly and extremely efficient- even when the restaurant is busy (which they always seem to be) and the price is totally reasonable. If you are unsure of what to order, be sure to ask the staff, as they are happy to make recommendations (they've never steered us wrong!). If you like Indian food, this is the place to go! If you've never had Indian food, stop in for lunch and try you some- this place is as good as it gets!

I LOVE this place! Bombay Palace had been recommended to me by several friends, and we finally had a day off when we could go. Dinner was nothing short of fabulous. We had papadum, a thin lentil wafer (gratis with your food), meat samosa, and shrimp pakora as appetizers. It's been so very long since moving to the area 6 years ago since I've had Indian food that was properly seasoned, it was as if there was heaven on my tongue. My acid test for any Indian restaurant is chicken tikka masala. Bombay Palace delivered. I will say that the waiter was very surprised when this white woman ordered the spice "medium", and he came to check on me to be sure the amount of spice wasn't hurting me. I'll go for hot next time! Speaking of the wait staff, they were very attentive, and we were asked if it was our first time there, and if we had ever had Indian food before. The waiter also made suggestions as what to try. (I'm sure they're not used to people knowing what they want.) If any of us ran low on drinks, our glasses were filled instantly. Anyway, back to the chicken tikka masala- pure & simple, it was the best I've had. There was no evidence of smoke in the restaurant as noted by other reviewers. The air was fresh & clean, as was the rest of the restaurant & restrooms. This place is now one of my favorite restaurants in the entire region, and we'll be there on a frequent basis.

Knox still lacks a "foodie" standard Indian restaurant. Go eat there and support them as they open. If u need your "Indian" gourmet fix, you will still need to travel. Makes me look forward to vacations. Par for the course for what it is. Decent, but not spectacular...unfortunately.

Last Friday was our first visit and now we have been here 3 times in 7 days. We had never eaten Indian cuisine before but the waiter was very helpful in helping us navigate the menu. Since it was our first visit they offered a free appetizer and helped us choose our main courses. Everything was unbelievably delicious. I love curry and this is the best I have had. The chicken tikka masala was splendid as was the lamb dish. We came back on Sunday for their buffet and we were not disappointed. You owe it to yourself to give this place a try. The waiters are phenomenal and your glass will never be empty.

I just started eating Indian food. As a matter of fact, this was my 3rd time. The first was Sitar and the second was Woodland's. Bombay Palace beats both hands down. While I'm not sure as to the level of authenticity of their food, the lamb biryani was simply deliciious! The lamb was very tender and the seasoned rice was amazingly flavorful. The portion was smaller than Woodland's, but the dish tasted so delicous. I will be back!

We were craving Indian food, and I found this place on yelp. There was a lot of good reviews, so we decide to try it out. We went for lunch when they have a buffet option. In the past, I have never had a bad experience at any other Indian places with buffets so I wasn't particularly nervous. This place was just ok. The foods weren't spicy at all. If anything, I was disappointed by the lack of spice. I was also disappointed by the lack of Naan. It was on the buffet, but once they got busy they were slower to refill the Naan. If I were to go here again, I would just order my own to have a constant supply of Naan. We were somewhat in a hurry though so we just dealt with it. I was also confused by the corner of random stuff by the buffet. I guess this place is ok if it's the only place you've ever had Indian food. The service was good which is why I am giving them 3 stars. 2.5 is probably more appropriate. Dinner is probably a better choice,i assume.

For our first meal of Indian vittles in Knoxville, we chose Bombay Palace in Turkey Creek. It was their most recent Sunday afternoon buffet that we enjoyed. Overall, it was a great experience. The staff served us well, and the food was tasty and fresh. The ambiance needs a bit of an update, but it does not at all detract from the cuisine. Here are some highlights: Service The gents at Bombay Palace don't need to be asked anything. Items - water, naan, and questions about items - just appear. In fact, the ladies in our party had the papadam off the buffet line. It was a bit stale. They asked for, and immediately received, fresh papadam. No frowning, no wincing, but just action. Food The food is quite tasty. Our favorites were the Saag Paneer (Spinach with Cottage Cheese) and Baingan Bhartha (Smoked Eggplant, Mashed). The crew brought out fresh naan stuffed with spiced mashed potatoes. The gulab jamun were especially wonderful. They were full flavored, firm on the outside, and silky smooth, but not undercooked at all, on the inside. Ambiance The reason for my lack stopping short of five stars is the ambiance. There is nothing wrong with it, but it just doesn't warrant five stars. It's a quaint, small place, but it does need a bit of a refresh. I highly recommend Bombay Palace. You won't be disappointed.

I love Indian food for one. So much flavor! Amazing culture. The service here is always better than the last time. As in.. it's never bad. They are very patient with you if you haven't decided what to get yet. Always eager to help and give some hints on what to get. I always look at pictures before hand and try to ask for some help. My girlfriends pretty much knew what they wanted and I was stuck this time. I always get the same thing and I wanted to change it up! I always get the Vegetarian Thali. I never knew I could get it other ways! Always get the same.. I really wanted some Aaloo Mattar too! So the amazing guy helped me and made me a Vegetarian sample platter that had the Aaloo on it! Yum yum yum! I usually never get a spice level or 2. I wasn't mad that I did, but I will probably stick with a 1 from now on. Spices on spices with hotness was not my friend. Haha Some of the best Naan I have ever had! All different kinds! Always make sure your drinks are full! Always! They do have a group. I don't know why. They are always so busy! I hear the lunch buffet is awesome. I want to definitely try! Ends your meal with a little scoop of ice cream. Perfect touch! I really don't think you wil be disappointed! This is a must!

My first experience was great. Food was amazing, great tast and good service. Had a friend in from Seattle that loves Indian food and he said this was one of the best restaurants he's ever eaten at. It was my first time ever so I was happy. Great job keep up the good work I will be back.

I crave this place, time and time again. I will eat there on Saturday night, finish the leftovers off on Sunday, and be craving it again Monday. Our obsession with this restaurant began about two and a half years ago, when my wife and I were tired of the "same old, same old" restaurants in the area and decide to expand our culinary horizons to Indian food. Neither of us had experience true Indian cuisine, so we thought "Why the hell not" and took the plunge. Walking into their little vestibule, the aroma of spices hit us and we immediately knew we would love it. It was a bit intimidating at first, but our server was kind and recommended several dishes for us. When he realized we had a deer in the headlights look, he simplified it. "How spicy do you like your food? Lamb or chicken? Do you like vegetarian? Anything you don't like?" We answered his questions, and he ordered it for us according to our spice palette. Needless to say, it was PHENOMENAL! We went back two weekends later to eat again. We try to go at least once every other month, and even when my work schedule changed and Saturday nights out became impossible, I'd pick up to go and bring it home (they do a very brisk to go business, by the way). Never had a bad meal, never had an incorrect order, and they know us so well there now that when we do dine in, they always bring us a bottle of Heyward's 5000 to start the meal off with. In fact, they've kind of spoiled me towards other restaurants. I've eaten at other nameless restaurants in Knoxville and they don't hold a candle to the awesomeness of Bombay Palace. You've got to try it!

Easily the best Indian food in Knoxville! The service was prompt and the food was fresh and hot, not to mention insanely delicious! My wife was a newbie so we kept it pretty simple with garlic naan, chicken kabobs and Chicken Tikka Masala. We were both extremely happy and full! I'm eager to go back and get pretty adventurous, as the menu can get pretty advanced, but don't let that deter you. The menu covers the basics too! It's in Turkey Creek, which can be a bit of a haul for some, but it is well worth it!

Good food. Good Service. Nothing awesome. We were driving from the smokies to Cincinnati and yelp showed this place to be an awesome lunch stop. Disappointed. Shrimp and Fish were over cooked. Chicken was chewy. The curries were good. And biryani was strictly okay. Thank you for the meal.

This is the first time I have ever eaten Indian food. It is pure awesomeness. The wait staff was extremely friendly and courteous. I was suggest for most people not going more than medium spiciness. They give you an option whenever you order your food on how spicy you like it and medium was spicy without being overwhelming for us anyway. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody who likes Indian food or is curious about trying it for the first time.

This place serves some of the best Indian food. I got the vegetarian thali which came with 3 different curry dishes, rice and naan. All three were delicious and the naan was pretty good. I have this thing about Indian restaurants that don't have good naan. If you can even get that right, theres a problem. I also tried some of the lamb korma which was equally as amazing. All their dishes are full of flavor. The service is also excellent. I have yet to be disappointed.

This nondescript restaurant hides the best Indian food in town. Worth the drive for the gobi chilli. A cauliflower app that will blow your mind! We shared the fish tikka masala and the lamb bhuna. Incredible. You will leave satisfied and glad that you came here. Kumar was a wonderful and friendly host. The entire staff was very accommodating. What a pleasure able surprise. Do yourself a favor and eat at their restaurant.

The atmosphere is an excellent, dim lit room with either a booth, or table seating. The family-owned business is as personal as you can get in Knoxville! Excellent service, and amazing food. My husband and I began our meal with the complimentary Papadum (thin and cripsy lentil flat bread) and mango salsa with mint sauce, and an appetizer of Tandoori Assorted (For Two) which was incredible. I ordered the entree of Lamb Bhuna which comes with the delicate aroma rice served with each dish. I also had the Roget sparkling white wine which was a GREAT pairing with the entree. To top off the meal, each guest is served a scoop of strawberry ice cream to cleanse the palette (one of the only restaurants in Knoxville that I know who does this). Overall, my experience of Bombay Palace in Turkey Creek was one of my best in Knoxville. Thanks for the great service & great food!

If I could give 100 stars out of five I would. Not exaggerating. I have been eating Indian food all of my life and I have never tasted anything like this. It is heaven on earth, mouthwatering perfection. Every dish we tried was masterfully cooked and spiced, each with multiple harmonious layers of flavor, and the meat as tender as anything I have ever had. Me and my mom nearly cried with joy and even now I can't believe it's possible that food could be that good. We're visiting from out of town and I think we are going to move now.

Groupon and yelp convinced me to come here and I'm so glad I did! One of my friends spent a summer at India and she never had Indian food outside of India taste so similar. That was the best compliment I've ever heard about a restaurant. So I ordered: Garlic naan and Chili naan - I couldn't tell the difference between these two. They looked identical! Which is a total fail on my part. It's hard to distinguish the difference. They both practically had the same toppings. Vegetable vindaloo and chana masala - I ordered mild to spicy. It was so spicy! I was, as usual, sweating a storm on my nose. It was a good spicy though, by this I mean I can't stop eating it. The curry was thick with strong spices and it mixed perfectly with the naan and rice. I like to build mini pizzas with the curry and rice on top of the naan. The waiter passed buy with an odd look seeing me it. He's probably wondering if that was something new on the menu! I build it where each bite will be as memorable as the first. Chana sag - very thick and creamy. It wasn't super oily like other Indian joints. If you like creamed spinach this is the dish for you. It's a plus with additional protein from the chickpeas. Bhindi masala - spicy up my life. Here comes the sweat glands pumping. If you want something not mushy, this is the dish for you. It's okra cut in half and sauteed. The flavors are of course unique and hits the spot for an Indian craving but I'm a huge fan of creamy thick curry so this was a side dish to me. Tandoori roti - this is for the healthy folks out there. Whole wheat!! Do I like it? Nothing beats naan when it comes to Indian. There is a huge difference between this and naan. I wonder why that is. I feel like it's a totally different recipe. You don't get the soft, chewy, fluffy texture similar to naan. Instead, it's more like the skin of wrap; warm and thin. Mulligatawny soup - woah. Finally one that isn't chicken broth and isn't watery! It's thick and creamy and just hits the root of your tongue for a good bowl of mulligatawny soup. The flavor is rich and what really won my vote was the consistency. Bhel puri - the flavor was remarkable. The blend of spices are apparent and the spicy touch kicks in at your very last chew. It still amazes me how chefs choose the exact ingredients to create a wonderful dish to have the exact effect they want. The only down side to this dish was that it wasn't crispy. It was toward the soggy side. The rice - I think it has salt and oil. It reminded me of the young times when my mom made me like rice by adding oil and salt but it was a special type of oil that I still don't remember. The rice wasn't mushy, or hard. Free appetizer: Green sauce and onion sauce with crispy sheets to dip. Yum yum! I also came here for the lunch buffet and I'm not sure why but I never enjoy naan at lunch buffets. It taste so different from naan served for dinner. The naan was refilled frequently and they didn't only serve plain naan but it just wasn't good. It's rare that Indian restaurants serve flavored naan since it usually cost more. They had a huge selection for the lunch buffet and I had many plates full. See attached pictures for options during the lunch buffet. They also serve vanilla ice cream and mango pudding! Which smelled wonderful and looked very creamy. The food here is worth the bang for your buck. It's far but I would kill an hour round trip to eat here. The staff is superb. I've seen the same workers every time I went.

I know I start a lot of reviews with, my husband and I were hungry and we started driving/walking around and found this place... Well, this is another one of those stories. I had a listing appointment in the absolutely middle of no where Tennessee and we didn't get out of there till nearly one pm. We didn't hit civilization till nearly two o clock! I had a sales appointment at 330, so we ran through Turkey Creek as quickly as one can get through Turkey Creek seeking a quick but good dining experience. I noticed a sign on the side of the building that said, lunch buffet, so I swung my car into the nearly full lot and off we went on another food adventure. The place was clean, and nearly packed to full capacity. Three rice options, ten meat options, veggie options and a special of the day sitting on a heater in the middle of the room for all to gather round and take from. We both went back for seconds, and ate this fried cheese ball thing for desert. You will not be hungry nor disappointed leaving here and we will be going back!

Fan freaking tastic !!!! We got fried califlower for appetizer. .. never knew califlower could taste so good. Everything was perfect. We got naan, curry chicken, and lamb. Best Indian food I have ever had. A must go to place

The lunch buffet is pretty good, but the dinner was off the hook. The naan was perfect and the vegetable korma is some of the best around.

Curries were too salty and food was not hot. Soda was 1.89 and buffet 8.99, pretty cheap but the selection was not too good. The naan was soggy. Considering all the rave reviews I was really disappointed. Maybe because we came at 2pm and not in prime lunch time.

Stopped in on the way to Nashville, authentic Punjabi food! Ambience is nothing fancy, the place was pretty packed for a Friday night. We ordered a veg thali, tikki chaat, and baingan bharta. The thali and baingan bharta were delicious! The chat was ok, but all in all, definitely recommend.

We love Bombay Palace! Great service, excellent food, and easy to get to in Turkey Creek. We used to live in England & love our curries, so we were glad to find Bombay Palace. Their garlic naan is my favorite in town. Favorite dishes are chicken tikka masala and butter chicken & my son usually gets something super hot.

Great indian food in knoxville. I've had better naan bread elsewhere but the staff is friendly and the lunch buffet is great. Good for someone who is unfamiliar with Indian, you will find something at the lunch buffet. I haven't had sitar in knoxville but I look forward to trying it soon for comparison.

Without a doubt, this is the best Indian food in Knoxville. I drive past two other Indian restaurants to eat here. The quality of the food is absolutely worth the extra 10 minutes of driving time. I have eaten here at least half a dozen times. The food is consistently fresh, hot and delicious. Service has been super efficient and nice. They have a wide variety of options to satisfy every taste bud. When you get a craving for some good Indian food, Bombay Palace is a must visit.

By far the best Indian food I've had in Knoxville. From the dishes from the menu to the buffet, everything is top notch. The first time I went with a friend and we had a female server. Kindest, most helpful server I've ever had. She knew we had Groupons and gave us suggestions to get the most bang for our buck. I'm addicted to the food now. I would go every day if I could.

Don't let the outdoor mall location fool you. This is good, authentic food. Robby is a great manager as well, so you can expect good service. Portions are good for the price and you really can't go wrong. The weekend buffets have a particularly great selection!

This is my second trip here since they opened a couple months back. So there are a few notes. First, you're going to wait at dinner. There's always a wait. It's always worth it. Second, for tea fans the masala chai is fresh not from a package, unsweetened and with a little extra saffron. It's perfect! I've gotten lamb both trips. It's been fantastic. Caveat emptor: I like my food spicy. I'm known for it. I often temper reviews along those lines. That being said, if you're a spicy food person, let them know where you fall on the pepper scale. This place is good at getting it right if they have a target to shoot for. I like ghost and scorpion peppers. They did well with that target. This is the only place in Knoxville I've found (and fairly rare everywhere else) that makes stuffed naan. I love live love ghobi (cauliflower) naan. They did well with this too. The wait staff is always friendly and courteous and as another reviewer mentioned they make good small talk. All these things help make a great experience. This second trip was better than the first where the wait to get my food after ordering was 45 minutes. This time it was closer to 25. Completely within acceptable limits to me. The short, definitely pay a visit. You won't regret it.

The food is good enough to get by but sadly no flavors stood out in the dishes. This could be because it was the buffet-but I don't think I'll be back to try out a dinner or the food in the future.

Time for an update. I came back here for another meal with a math teacher, and well you know what? The dinner wasn't as smoky as the lunch. So I had to revisit my review and give it that score it deserves. This time around, I ordered the Chicken Tikki Masala and it definitely didn't disappoint for both myself and my guest. It was full of flavor, and it came along with a bowl of rice as well as of course naan bread. (Note: you can buy different types of Naan bread as well... We ordered a garlic/onion naan bread, and it was pretty baller.) I'm not saying that there was a lot of smoke, but there was still some smoke. Even though there is, coming here and having a meal is well worth dealing with it.

Good to know there is decent Indian when I visit. Bombay Palace has good, solid Indian cuisine. I enjoyed the Lamb dishes we ate quite a bit. We experimented with the appetizer menu a little. Nothing earth shattering here, just decent food. I will be back.

VERY good. We went there on a busy Friday evening with a party of four; we were seated right away. The host came by immediately, welcoming us with a plate of lacy bread with a couple of delicious sauces. My husband had the mixed grill, I had the chicken tikka masala, and both were excellent. Reasonably priced entrees, house wines and a fairly small beer collection, nonetheless the entire experience was pleasant and very tasty. I'd come here again.

So, here's the deal. I have been to this place 4 times - all times with my 2 coworkers. First couple times, it was fine. Good food, service was good too. The third time is where things started going south. We went for lunch, I wasn't too hungry, so I just ordered the bhel. I have eaten bhel thousands of times and this is honestly the worst bhel ever. I didn't eat past 3-4 bites and just left it alone. The owner, Robby, comes to give us the checks and sees I didn't like the bhel, so he offers to give me a discount in the amount of the bhel ($3.99) the next time I am in. I don't understand why he just didn't comp the bhel then, but fine, I will take the discount the following time. (Side note: bhel has more than 4 ingredients (mamra, sev, onions and tamarind chutney) you put in it...look up the recipe!) The next week, I go there again, but Robby isn't there. So I asked the server to speak to the owner, so the owner (Robby's dad, I presume) comes out. I explained the situation that I was here last week, Robby offered a discount next time I am in and so I wanted to let them know so they can give me the discount. The owner tells me that he cannot give me a discount on the buffet since I would be robbing him if I went back to the buffet 15 times - instead he will give me a discount the next time I come in for dinner. I told him that my coworker was not getting a buffet, but is ordering a full dinner portion for a meal, so could he just give him the discount or give me something in writing so I can present it next time. His response to me is that no, he cannot give me something in writing because he is there everyday at all opening hours and just because someone lied to me once, it doesn't mean that he is lying. Excuse me?!?! I just got so fed up of listening to him tell me over and over that I should have asked him to make me a new bhel the previous time and that I would be robbing him if he gave me a discount on my buffet meal that day and that Robby lied about giving me a discount that I just left it and didn't want to continue the scene in front of other customers. And, yes, it would have gotten uglier had he continued to speak to me the way he was. I will say this is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. You can't even give someone a discount when you say you will. Terrible!

Great Food here. Was here on business trip and chose this restaurant based on Yelp reviews. Originally I had in mind was a Lamb Tikka Masala but the server recommended a Lamb Dish that was better than Lamb Tikka Masala. I went right ahead and trusted him and it came out fantastic. It has very similar Tikka Masala taste and had added few other different flavors. Spice level I ordered was Hot and it was pretty hot. Naan was on par. Would return and come back when I am back in Knoxville!

  • Zach W.

Delicious food! My fav Indian food in knoxville! Love the naan- especially when they bring it to you still warm! Amazing dishes on buffet! Great sweet tea. Attentive, friendly staff. Highly recommend, even if you think you don't like Indian food!

This place had great service and the lunch buffet was really great. Good selection and really delicious. It really allows you to try a little of everything. The goat curry and naan was especially delicious!

Very yummy cuisine! I recommended the combination dinners. It was like a mini buffet on my plate. Service was very attentive, my iced tea was never empty.

Had an epic dinner with my friends here. Service was fantastic and really quick, food was so tasty right from the papad. Ordered the paneer chili, Gobi chilli, Indian tea, kadai paneer, malai kofta n naan - everything was finger licking good.

I have visited the Bombay Palace several more times after my initial visit, and each time was a pleasant experience. I've stayed away from the buffet and always ordered from the menu. The food was always great, and the service prompt and friendly. I'll certainly come back!

Great atmosphere, the customer service was awesome. If you're in Knoxville Tennessee area this is a restaurant that you must tryout. The food was very very delicious. The owner or manager was a very personable person and made sure that you received the best experience possible.
