Service was excellent. We had the cream of mushroom soup. For our main course we had the Etoufee and Halibut. The Halibut had a crust that was by far the best I've ever had. It was beautifully white and flaky underneath. My husband complained about the Etoufee....that it wasn't enough! He wanted to lick the plate! For dessert we had the Pecan Pie. It was topped with a scoop of ice cream. The entire meal was fantastic. We will most definitely return.

I was pleasantly surprised. Was looking for a classy place to take out the lady and our friends for Valentine's Day while we stayed in Knoxville and looked online everywhere and found Bistro. I called, asked a few questions, they mentioned being at that location for 5 years, they'd have a special menu alongside their full menu, asked for the reservation requesting one of their senior servers. Walking up to the little strip mall area with the attached Mexican restaurant next door, I was sweating a bit thinking I made a poor choice but once you step in the atmosphere takes over you with a sense of polished warmth. Jason did a great job, was perfectly attentive, timely, and otherwise wonderful. Highly recommend you request him as well. Started with some cocktails, paired some wine to every course, enjoyed some coffee with Buffalo Trace creme with desert. Only thing I was upset about and kept this review from 5 stars is that instead of an additional menu, they had a severely limited menu for Valentine's dinner. We still got every course, and enjoyed our choices but I was looking to get a lot more. Scallops were well orchestrated and fresh, salad was outstanding, cobia and pork chop were great. Can't remember dessert but do remember it being a great end to a great meal. Will look forward to going back!

I have never been so disappointed in a dinner. I have to admit it was a group setting, but the service was lackluster. We found it grossly overpriced for what it was. Will not be going back for any reason. I could see how after a few or more glasses of wine (thats how long it took to get food) the food would be great.

Paul's Yelp Elite Rating: EASILY 5 STARS Came here with my buddies Dean and Steve as our last meal out before I return home to Charlotte. When I lived here in the late nineties, we used to go to the original Bistro by the tracks at its original location. I just found out that the last person to buy that business moved it over here to accommodate the ridiculously large wine selection that they currently have. The appetizer I chose to get was the braised pork belly and it was served over a homemade kimchi that had a delicious sweet and sour sauce to it. The pork was amazingly tender and very delicious, but the surprise was how good the kimchi was! Normally I am NOT a kimchi fan, but this kimchi was unique as it was home fermented, with a homemade sweet and sour sauce that worked absolutely perfectly with the salty pork. For my main course, I decided to go traditional with a filet mignon accompanied with Yukon Gold potatoes, broccoli, and topped with shitakke mushrooms. I don't know what they did to those mushrooms, but they were outrageously delicious! If I'm not mistaken they were poached in butter because they sure were buttery! The filet was done perfectly medium rare and the meat was perfectly seasoned. The Yukon Gold potatoes were very creamy and also buttery, and the broccoli was perfectly al dente. For dessert I opted for their chocolate dish. I don't think it's called anything other than chocolate as it features several types of chocolate, including a absolutely delicious chocolate panna cotta. Our server, Dan, was very courteous, friendly, and very professional as he attended to all of our needs without being annoying. The atmosphere is low key, much like that of an old style steak house but the lighting was good without feeling like you're being interrogated by the SS. As many of you know, I come to Knoxville relatively often to visit my best friends Dean and Steve. But this was the best dinner I have had in Knoxville in many years and I do believe that this restaurant is quite possibly the very best Knoxville has to offer. Their wine list is certainly Wine Spectator worthy as I recommended that they submit their tremendously large wine list to the Wine Spectator for consideration for receiving a Wine Spectator award. Look this is definitely upscale dining so don't expect el cheapo prices. But in this case you get what you pay for, and it is worth every darn penny! I highly, highly, highly recommend Bistro by the tracks restaurant! And go next door to their drink establishment called, ironically, Drink. It is a high tech wine bar. Check out my review for that establishment in another Yelp posting.

We celebrated my sister's birthday, it was just me and her tonight. I have to say this place was nicer than I expected; it definitely has an upscale feel to it, and I like the interior. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and service was great. We shared the asparagus salad, and it was a very interesting composure of ingredients, however it was nicely done. I tried the halibut and my sister got a filet. I tried her filet and it was really good, but I have had better. My halibut was cooked right, a nice sear and it had good flavor. The other things on the plate lacked in flavor a little bit, and my sister said the same with her dish. It wasn't cheap, but I still enjoyed our time here tonight. I think it deserved a solid 4 stars.

Not bad, not great. I got the halibut, and cheesecake for dessert. The service was excellent, no complainants there. Judging on the dinner, the food was ok. I had the halibut, it was alright but considering the price I was expecting more. I would consider the brassiere over bistro by the tracks for nice dinners.

I was so disappointed here! Went for my birthday last year (2013). Completely impressed with the decor and ambiance. This place is stunning to the eye. If you're a sucker for a beautiful restaurant--one that perhaps looks like it might belong in a larger, more cosmopolitan city, if you will--check this place out. Unfortunately our meal was sub-par. I'm sorry to have to use that word for such a gorgeous place, but there's no other way to describe it. I'm not really sure if it was an 'off' night or if things had just gone downhill by the time we got around to trying it. The cocktails (on the menu) appeared to be craft, unique, and creative. But they tasted like crud. I have a very open mind and a broad palate. I eat (& drink) pretty much anything. But the combination of alcoholic & non-alcoholic ingredients was beyond strange... We had to send them back--not just because we didn't like them, but because they actually tasted like something was wrong with them. We ended up ordering a glass of wine. 1 of the 3 entrees (there were 3 of us) was good, but the other two we actually had to send back. The fish was not fresh and it was also not hot. Ordered something else and it was too salty. We sent it back, they comped a good portion of the check (which was nice and to be expected) and literally left hungry. We have not been back since. :(

I was craving fine dining for the longest time ever and I assumed they would whip a kick ass vegan menu for me but they didn't. My significant other enjoyed his meal; his only dietary restriction was lactose intolerant. I was surprised by their peach salad as the starter and anticipated for my main entree. Unfortunately, I was disappointed; they offered me a pumpkin risotto that I could have made better, which I did the follow night. So what makes a fine dining salad better than any regular salad? Their mix of ingredients to create such a pleasant flavor. It's expensive but worth the taste. So what sucked about the risotto? It was normal..there was nothing to it. I felt like I was eating risotto from a box. I forgot how many servings of bread I asked for to feel compensated for the expensive meal. Gotta love the free bread!

I must say, this place has got to be my favorite in town by far for some upscale drinks and food. By upscale, I mean when I'm feeling rich with cash monies in my pocket. I've ordered the duck confit and was very impressed. Nice crispy skin and moist meat calls for perfection. The burger is large and comes with a generous amount of fries. The patty is cooked to how you want it. Their salads are quite delicious! They are refreshing with the right amount of acidity. Can I mention that the deep fried chicken livers are amazing. They are crispy with a nice batter and not saturated in the fat that its been frying in. I am a huge fan of the sweater weather. Nice refreshing bubbly drink with an italian bitter to elevate the personality of the overall beverage. There is also a wide selection of whisky drinks on the menu which is so trending. Something to please the man was definitely considered. minus 1star due to the fact that the scallops are still mediocre! They have a nice sear but they taste rubbery. Textually it is unsound. I've given several tries hoping that it would improve, but each time I am disappointed. Maybe for Knoxville, it is the best that can be offered. Note to self, will not order the scallops in the future.

Ate here this weekend for the first time; not sure why we hadn't been here before but,... It was a nice experience for us. I like the atmosphere here: full of a good mix of people (small oval booths are nice for two) who seemed to be enjoying themselves but, didn't seem too crowded or noisy even as full as it was. As noted in many reviews, their substantial wine cellar is visible everywhere. I'd highly recommend the poached pear salad. I think it's good enough to get even if you have to order a 'small plate' entree to not get too full. Wife had the beet salad and loved it. I also had cobia for my entree and it was good. But, this was the first time I'd eaten cobia, and I'd get something else next time. It's the fish, not the restaurant or preparation. I'm more of a 'flaky, melt in your mouth' fish guy (like sea bass), and could get a great piece of sea bass in the same price range. We split the pecan pie and it was wonderful; easily in the top 10% of pecan pies, which is high praise coming from two southerners. The service was efficient but, our waiter was a little detached. Not much personality there. I think this was an opportunity missed to improve the dining experience, and it is the only reason this rating is not 5-stars. Side note: They have a bar immediately next door (separate entrance) that our dinner friends had tried before meeting us, and they liked it very much. We poked our head in, and would definitely try it next time we visit Bistro by the Tracks.

Bistro by the Tracks was our go-to nice dinner spot for almost a decade. All was well. Then one day, management felt the need to tweak the menu, let the long-time chef go and hire a guy named Christopher Stallard. We showed up for Valentine's Day last year to a completely different, less-appealing, pricier menu and were gutted. All our favorites: gone. We suffered through for a year, coming in less often, sticking to a few basics on the menu which they eventually added back in from the old menu (except in a fancier version and $$$). But we kept coming when we could because honestly, when you live in Knoxville, TN and you finally get a night out from your kids and you want a next-tier atmosphere, tablecloths, excellent service/staff and great drinks...the options are few and Bistro is central. Fast forward a year and a half: Christopher Stallard has now vamoosed. Basically this guy moved in, changed everything, devastated us, and then left. But lo--what light through yonder kitchen breaks?? A new executive chef--Jeff Carter of Dancing Bear Lodge (run by some folks who used to be in the mix up at Blackberry Farm). A new hope dawns.... We went in tonight for the first time since the changeover and loved what we tasted. Some Stallard holdovers are still there, but a few wonderful new dishes have appeared. Hopefully, as Carter settles in, he will continue the...updating. My Heirloom Tomato Salad with feta and fried okra was summer on a fork and made my mouth come alive. The new prep scallops small plate wasn't as tasty as the tomato salad, but it was respectable. My husband had the new pork chop dish with Boursin cheese broiled over the top of the pork, bourbon peaches to garnish and some kind of grits underneath. This dish really works. It's just so darn tasty and comforting. Of course our cocktails were on par as was the signature crusty dinner bread. For the first time since Jan. 2013, we felt excited again for this beloved jewel in the Knoxville restaurant scene. The staff are almost visibly bursting with pride and have remained constant as one of Bistro's top assets through all the changes. Press on, Jeff Carter--we're with you...and we're hungry.

Service was awesome (thanks TJ), food was the best we had on the whole trip. We had a graduation luncheon and they even baked a cake for the occasion. Members of our party ate crab cakes, burgers, chicken salad, and Reuben sandwich. Everyone was thrilled with their order.

Probably the best meal I've had in Knoxville. We purposely went during a home UT game to miss the crowd on a Saturday night. Easy to make reservations online with open table. The atmosphere and display of the wine collection makes you feel like you're in a much bigger city than Knoxville. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu. He offered several facts about the origination of the locally provided ingredients in each of our dishes. And it paid off. From local Benton Bacon to Cruze Farm cream and Vienna Coffee from Maryville- we enjoyed every course and we'll definitely return and recommend this restaurant.

Exceptional dining experience. Five stars with a cherry on top. My entire dining experience was very positive. Everything from calling to make reservations, service, the quality of the food and attention to details. As my friend said at the end of the meal- "Even their water is delicious". We started off with 3 appetizers. Their appetizers are a little tricky to share because of the mostly deconstructed nature of their meal. One of them ended up being a soup (can't remember what it was called) but they were all delicious. The beet salad was served with beets in three preparations. For someone who doesn't really like cheese, I enjoyed the cheese from the cheese plate. Greatest find of the night is that they have a special vegetarian and gluten free menu. We had started off looking at the regular menu and when it was time to order, I asked our waiter, Ted, if the chef could make a vegetarian dish. He quickly whipped out a complete vegetarian menu with veg appetizers, hot plates and main entrees. And I had the option of 5-6 vegetarian entrees. Greatest discovery ever. Our main entrees were also fantastic. My two companions got the fish of the day while I went with the potato gnocchi. We had to get dessert. The soft chocolate comes highly recommended. It was yet another deconstructed dish but all the separate components blended well together. Extensive wine menu with delicious specialty cocktails. Try the Pear Tree. Exceptional service from very professional employees. I saw Ted a few times in the background, watching from afar and ensuring we didn't need anything. Service was more than adequate and never intrusive. Some people complained about the service being slow but this is a place you take your time to eat. Relax, soak in the ambience, enjoy the food and the conversation.

Finally, a restaurant in Knoxville that we've found to be our favorite. Wonderful ambiance (outdoor area is amazing). Staff friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. We went for lunch and will be back for dinner. Food was a unique blend of fresh and creative. Sourdough break was to die for. A foodie's must!

I have searched restaurants in yelp (in knoxville) and this one never came up. We discovered it only because of signage and, quite frankly, it is the best dining experience we've had since moving to Knoxville several months ago. The bar was fabulous - creative drinks and very friendly bartender. We both loved our entrees and our water was attentive, professional, and made great recommendations. We will be back and I recommend it highly.

Very nice business dinner here on a Wednesday night. We were seated right away. The interior is very nice. In fact nicer than I expected based on the exterior! They have an extensive wine list and their bottles are beautifully displayed. We ha a really hard time choosing dishes. Everything is very unique and the menu changes often so the person who recommended this restaurant had suggested an entree that was no longer on the menu. I ended up with half a wedge and beef tenderloin. But were very good! Both were also heavy on sauces, which is not my personal preference. After the wedge I asked for the beef dry and it was more to my liking.

Tried it again and it's equally bad. I was beginning to doubt myself, so I gave it several tries and I was not wrong. My recommendation. It's up to others to try.

Had to eat dinner again afterward Is it actually possible that two slim to average-sized people can spent $120+ at a Knoxville restaurant and have to eat again elsewhere right after dinner? Yes, this happened at Bistro by the Tracks last night. We had a $100 Visa gift card we needed to use, had heard fairly decent reviews of BbtT, and decided to give dinner a whirl for our anniversary. My husband is diabetic and tried to order an entree' that would require minimal substitutions because putting broccoli on the plate instead of potatoes seems to be more than most kitchen staffs can handle (yes, really). He ordered the $36 filet of beef, asked to substitute zucchini for the potatoes and requested that they omit the steak sauce. To make a long story short, here is the sum total of what we ate for our $121.61 total bill: 1 pomegrante martini, 1 glass of Malbec wine, one wedge salad that we split, 2 appetizers for me (a bowl of deconstructed shrimp bisque + a plate that consisted of 3 average-tasting scallops) and my husband's so-called filet dinner. His sides consisted of 4 asparagus spears and a few zucchini spears that were so tiny they were barely recognizable. They did not omit the "A-1.2" steak sauce from the filet, so he had to scrape that off to avoid sending it back. The atmosphere was very nice, and the martini was very good. Too bad our server was all-business. She was efficient, but not exactly friendly. She forgot our bread (which, in hindsight, wasn't worth eating) and missed a couple other things. Overall, she was average, although the other staff members were friendly enough. Using the Visa gift card required a mandatory 20% tip, which I would have gladly paid for an excellent meal and great service. In this case it just added insult to injury. We paid up and were out of there. The best part of the Bistro by the Tracks experience, which was actually just laughable: strolling across the parking lot to Five Guys so my husband could eat again. Unlike our previous wait staff, they got his order perfect, and we and the staff all just had a good laugh at what transpired at our first dinner across the way. I went to grab a bit of dessert at Menchies, where we saw some of our fellow BbtT diners. We won't be going back, needless to say. There are restaurants here with much better food -- even at relatively high prices -- that are so good and truly unique they leave you wanting to come back.

I'm new to the Knoxville area and didn't know just where to go for a nice meal. So I read tons of reviews and I decided to bring the fiancée here for Valentine's Day (and her birthday). They didn't disappoint us one bit. The restaurant is very modern and quite packed at nearly 7 pm on a Saturday night. Fortunately, I had made reservations (TIP: I highly recommend doing this) and they had a table waiting for us when we arrived. I had requested a booth and we got a very nice one along the back wall. Their booths are more of the "mafia booth" style, so we sat with our backs to the wall and we could look out over the restaurant. The first thing you will notice is their huge wine selection. We aren't wine drinkers, so I can't speak to the quality of the wine, but I can say that they have a good selection. We ordered a couple of drinks and while they were pricey, they were poured with a very heavy hand. I didn't need a second drink that evening. If you are a bourbon drinker, like me, you'll enjoy their selection of bourbons. When I asked what bourbons they had, our server offered to go get me "the list", because they have so many! Speaking of the service, it was outstanding. Our server was very friendly and attentive. He set the mood for a great meal. He checked back with us often enough that we were not ever wanting anything, but not so much that he was annoying either. Absolutely perfect. He was pretty knowledgeable about the menu (but he had to read his cheat sheets for the special... and almost forgot to tell us about the dessert special!) As for the meal, it was amazing. We started with the Caesar salad... I think $9 a pop is the most I ever spent on a Caesar salad that wasn't a full entree salad. It was very good, but I don't know that they were worth $9 each. As for the entrees, I had the Grilled Salmon and the fiancée had the Pan Roasted Chicken Breast. My salmon was excellent. It just melted in your mouth... Lots of flavor and a good sized portion. I didn't want the dish to end, but I had eaten most of it and only left a little on my plate. I only had a single bite of the fiancée's entree, but it was really good. I had considered ordering it, and I would have been happy either way. For dessert, we had the Chocolate Tart. When it arrived I thought "that's it?". It was a little odd that you get three little pieces (they were heart shaped). You would think that on Valentine's Day weekend, it would be mostly couples ordering it, so you would get an even number. They were very hard to eat with the provided spoons, because well, they were hard. Like frozen. It was very tasty and each heart shaped piece was about three or four bites. The only thing that really didn't excite me about this was the location. It's at the end of a strip mall. I was hoping that a "Bistro By the Tracks" would be, well, by the tracks.... but no trains here! Would I come here again? Certainly for a special occasion. Good service and good food always rates highly with me!

The Pork tenderloin and the lamb are fantastic! Great ambiance, lighting, classy decor, tasteful, understated and elegant. Good wine selection. Went for anniversary, service was very attentive. Pleasantly surprised to find it packed on a Monday night.

Read Alesa G.'s thoughtful review and multiply it by 2, because she speaks for us. Small portions masqueradeing as nouvelle cuisine (it's not difficult to sear a scallop and they deal them out like priceless jewels), service that borders on indifferent and inflated pricing. The 2nd star is for the modern, albeit still stuffy, surroundings.

I've been to Knoxville a few times and being from California, I'm always looking for a great restaurant. Bistro by the Tracks did not disappoint. The servers and bartenders were so hospitable and patrons were even buying us rounds of drinks at the bar as we waited for our table. Decor of the restaurant was sleek and modern but not overly pretentious. Food was delicious! The diver seared scallops were TO DIE FOR! I ordered the braised lamb shank and it was so FALL OFF THE BONE, moist and tender! I enjoyed every bite with my wine. Speaking of wine, they have a decent selection. The filet was good but the standout of the night definitely had to be the scallops and the lamb! Nice job Bistro By the Tracks! We are definitely coming back to try more dishes! PS. MAKE RESERVATIONS, this place gets packed!

We went to Bistro by the Tracks for my birthday this past weekend. It had been recommended by several folks. I can say that indeed, the food was good, especially for Knoxville, though there were a few hiccups along the way. Despite being located in strip mall hell, the space is very nice--large tables, low lighting and ambiance, and sound remediation on the ceiling so that you can actually talk at your table without having to yell. I didn't check out the wine list, as my dad was ordering, but both the Prosecco and the Barbera d'Asti that we ordered were very nice. The appetizers were great, if pricey, across the board. My brother raved about the tea-smoked duck with brussel sprout "kimchee" and I loved the green gazpacho with tarragon. Unfortunately, a wine tasting group came in around the time our entrees were supposed to come out and so we waited over 40 minutes between our apps and entrees as the kitchen got backed up by the large wine tasting group. Our waiter was apologetic and came out with extra bread (and later offered up some free desserts as compensation). The entrees were a bit more of a mixed bag. My dad's beef special was great, and my mom and I had the scallop app for an entree (small, w/ three tiny scallops, but delicious). My husband and brother had fish entrees, both of which were problematic. Both the grouper special (at $35 v. pricey, especially for the size of cut of fish) and the swordfish were over salted and overcooked to the point of being extremely dry. Seems to me that apps are the way to go here, as they were all super consistent. The water compensated with desserts. My husband loved the "PB&J"--a chevre "cheesecake" with a peanut crust and port soaked grapes. I had the deconstructed lemon meringue pie--I wasn't a huge fan of the heavy cheesecake-like filling, but the thyme meringue that accompanied it was amazing. My dad won the dessert category with his blackberry and cornbread dessert--light-ish, not too sweet, lots of fruit. This place still warrants four stars, even with the service and fish hiccups because the food was mostly excellent and our waiter was attentive. It's too pricey for anything but a splurge for us, but we do look forward to returning and exploring the rest of the menu. It's nice to have a fine dining option in Knoxville with so many other upscale options closing down or threatening to close down recently.

This place is fantastic! Yummy french food in a very classy atmosphere. Probably the best food I've had in Knoxville. I know, I know, that's not saying much...but keep in mind that my boyfriend said it was one of the best meals he has ever had, and he lives in San Francisco. We started with the crab and butternut squash creme fraiche (awesome!) and had the roasted chicken (awesome!) and cornbread-stuffed quail (double-awesome!), topping it off with a bourbon and coke cake for dessert. All of it was incredible. Service was a little off, but they were busy for Valentine's weekend so I'll cut them a break and give them the 5 stars they deserve. Call and make reservations, because this place will be crowded. Understandably.

The day I committed to goat cheese was a good day. I wish I could remember it, because without that day I would have never tried the goat cheese stuffed chicken here. So I'm thankful to that day for the food I was able to experience tonight. I'm thankful for my well prepared meal, excellent service, and chardonnay too. Well, It is the week following Thanksgiving. If you are looking for a nice restaurant for a date, event, or meal this is the place. It's small with a great wine selection and nice menu. Today's fish special was shark from Hawaii. Most of the crowd was suits and heels, but I get the sense anyone is welcome. I was in jeans, and the man in jeans dining next to me was alone and regularly accompanied by wait staff that seemed to know him and his wallet well.

Met my dear old Dad and his special ladyfriend for dinner at Bistro By The Tracks. I'd made reservations through Open Table, and when we arrived, that's all there was...open tables. Not so promising, but then, it was 5 PM on Sunday, and they'd just opened the doors. If you want to have the place to yourself, that's when to try it. And it'd be worth it, too. Our hostess greeted us with warmly and led us to a swanky table up front, in the corner of two large windows. She gave us our wine list (extensive, padded-notebook style) and menus (one sheet, one side only), and assured us that Shaunda would be right there to take care of us. I glanced around. The dining room is one long rectangle. Décor is in muted shades of khaki and camel, lighting muted, bright enough but not glaring. Tables are polished hardwood, well-padded seating matching. A display of the wine cellar flanks the walls opposite the windows. "Casual elegance," as the website calls it, sums it up well. Later, I noted our hostess could control the window blinds via motor-controlled switch: a telling and costly attention to detail. There is outdoor seating, but it lacks any canopy to shelter from weather. Shaunda was indeed right with us, lucky for us. I've rarely encountered a more attentive and sensitive server. Throughout our meal she was spot-on balancing attentiveness and hovering, as if she read our minds before we even knew we'd made them up. You won't go wrong if you ask for Shaunda. We began with drinks while we considered the menu. Cutty Sark was not available; I settled for a Dewar's ($7), and my Dad the same, while his galpal had a glass of Riesling ($8). Both cocktails were adequate, and the young lady favored her wine so well she later had a second glass. Meanwhile, Shaunda, with her telepathic abilities, kept apprised of our appetizer decisions. Here, BBTT seriously disappointed. The three of us ordered two appetizers to share, and we couldn't. Not because it's not permitted, but because it was not possible. We asked about the shrimp scampi ($14). Shaunda confessed it contained only three shrimp. We did not inquire about the pan-seared sea scallops ($15) before deciding. Shortly enough, we received both, and found to our astonishment two...count them, one, two, that's all, the end...sea scallops. Yes, it's an appetizer portion, but come on. If there were any fewer, they wouldn't be "scallops," they'd be..."scallop." Regardless of price, this portion size, even for an appetizer, is practically an insult. Two scallops? TWO? What are they, Imperial Faberge Eggs? So we couldn't parcel out the apps. I would've deducted an entire star for just this, but the service, by both Shaunda and the hostess, overcame it enough to still merit five stars. We found both shrimp and scallop...s plenty tasty, and got our first hint of what BBTT is all about: blending unusual flavors in a creative way to create really tasty food. The shrimp scampi was served in a bowl with lightly oiled polenta and corn kernels, the pan-seared sea scallop...s with a garnish of "flash-fried" kale that was itself amazing, bursting on your tongue like fireworks of green tinsel. Shaunda, with her preternatural mind-reading abilities, was able to not only explain the preparation but almost immediately supplied a gratis side dish. By this time, one or two other parties had sauntered in. We ordered our entrees. Dad and his ladyfriend both decided on the Cheeseburger ($15), a BBTT staple, supposedly what they built their reputation on some years past. I had the grilled Rib-Eye ($32), asking for a glass of cabernet ($10) with it; I didn't catch the name, but Shaunda said she recommended it with the steak, and of course she was right, it was a fine complement. I tell you, you can't go wrong with Shaunda. Both cheeseburgers came on sourdough buns, with ample French-fries (seasoned with savory sea-salt, I believe), and were cooked precisely to order. Both Dad and his ladyfriend found them delicious. My rib-eye was equally impressive, garnished with succotash and other greens and topped with crisp-fried Vidalia onions -- just another example of BBTT's creative and superb blending of flavors. It too was cooked just as I ordered. Unlike the appetizers, all entrée portion sizes were adequate, if not overwhelming. The hostess (also prescient) came by about the time we'd done, topping off our water, and Dad, without looking around, asked about coffee ($2.50). She was also spot-on. None of this "I'll tell your server" nonsense. Coffee came, and I don't believe my Dad ever knew he hadn't asked Shaunda. His galpal also got some decaf, both supplied by the hostess, even though by now the place was getting fuller. We enjoyed a good meal of astonishing flavors in a comfortably elegant atmosphere. The preposterous portions of the appetizers were the only false note in this symphony of superb service and fine food. By the time we left, the place was near full, and so were we.

Not too bad for a place in a strip mall. Made last minute reservations for a group of 16 - they were extremely accommodating. Great selection of wine at reasonable prices, good cocktail menu, and decent menu. Staff was helpful and attentive. Members of my party were Veggies and they had a special menu dedicated to them - perfect! Highly suggest the spot,

What a surprise! I was not expecting such a classy establishment in Knoxville :) I actually felt underdressed, wearing jeans. We sat outside on a beautiful summer night and thoroughly enjoyed every appetizer, entree and dessert we ordered in our party of three. Service was a bit slow, but I'll assume that's the norm for the South :) It strikes me more as a special occasion-type place. But I'd gladly return!

When in Knoxville, stop in Bistro By The Tracks. Fabulous food, friendly service, an amazing wine list along with a calm and relaxed ambience. All work together to make this "not so hidden" treasure Tennessee's best! Whether you crave fish, beef or fowl, this Bistro will never disappoint. Only downside? The Tracks haven't stopped in Nashville! We need a version of this lovely Bistro!

BbtT snagged my favor through exceptional service and excellent food. We were treated wonderfully and my fiancee and I will very likely return.

I was visiting from out of town and went here with colleague. Decent ambiance, I was underdressed slightly in jean cut offs. Gazpacho was amazing. My grouper needed a little salt. Dessert of peach sorbet was highlight. Overall, very satisfied with restaurant. For those out of towers, if u are looking for restaurant downtown, this is not. Not too far outside city, about 25 minutes away from airport.

Food, service ambiance was better than expected. Good beer list, vast wine list, very good bread and no disappointments from there on. Priced right for what you get and a short walk from the courtyard nearby. DL recommended

Have probably dined here 12-15 times since moving here 4.5 years ago. I have never had a bad meal and most times were excellent. Scallops, pork tenderloin, lamb, and most of the fish specials have been outstanding. Desserts are interesting, inventive and delicious. Arguably the best desserts in Knoxville. Service is usually very good, but had one or two off days. One was with a new waitor, so that was understandable. On my shortlist of restaurants to routinely frequent in East TN along with Echo, Foothills Milling Company (Maryville), Bonefish (yah, i know its a chain, but I still like it!), and Grill at Highlands Row.

Unfortunately, I hesitate to go back here. I've eaten there several times and each time the service was extremely slow, as in, over an hour of waiting for the meals. The strange thing is, one of those times, my party was only one of a few groups in the entire restaurant. It was just ridiculous. For the price of the food, I expect top notch service. As to the food, it was fine. But if you have to wait so long that everyone in the group is irritated, that defeats the purpose of going out to have a good time. There are several other upscale restaurants within 5-10 minutes of the Bistro that have excellent food and service, so I'll take my money elsewhere. Sorry, Bistro :(

After reading the reviews, we were very excited about dining at Bistro by the Tracks. Wow - what a disappointment! With the exception of the filet, our food was not good at any price, but especially disappointing at the high price. My son-in-law's duck was tough and chewy, my pan-seared halibut had no taste, and my husband's salmon was not seasoned at all. The dessert cake was hard and dry. The service was excellent and the wine list very good. Unfortunately, we will not return because of the food.

In a town that seems to almost actively try to sponsor only chain restaurants, By The Tracks is an oasis of delicious. I'm from the area and when I come back to visit I absolutely have to eat here once. If everyone I knew moved and I didn't know a soul in Knoxville anymore I'd still re-route any area trip to be able to swing through for a meal. The Atmosphere has been great at all three locations. Old-timers like me may remember and miss the tiny hole in the wall that gave By The Tracks its name, but the decor at the new place is good enough that even the gleam of the nearby chain drugstore is no problem. It feels in many ways "fancier" than the other two locations, but I never feel out of place if I duck in wearing jeans and a T. The food is easily as good, and consistently as good, as any shee-shee-snobbatorium in a big city, without the pretense and hipsters. The menu changes regularly and the chefs can think on their feet. I visited once as a vegetarian (I tried it for a year or two) and while the menu is not at all veggie friendly the chef threw together a vegetable risotto that was stellar. The last time I was there I had duck breast, cooked to perfection. Tender without a trace of toughness, as if it has been roasted all day instead of seared and sent out to me. I could have cut it with my spoon. And the citrusy sauce it sat on would have been good on the lowliest turkey sub and only elevated the duck that much more. If you're passing within 30 miles of Knoxville on a road trip go out of your way for this.

My wife and I have only eaten here once but it was very good and we will go back. It's very trendy, hosting all of the "bearden brass" on nightly basis. Make a reservation if you're going on the weekend. We both had the bacon burgers at the bar and they were awesome.

We live in Chattanooga, and we've never found a really great Knoxville restaurant... until now. Our first meal at Bistro By The Tracks met or exceeded all our expectations. My wife and I started with duck sausage and asparagus salad, then had seared scallops and stuffed quail. All were well-conceived, expertly prepared and very nicely presented. Desserts were wonderful. Service was flawless throughout. Prices were very reasonable for the quality delivered. The restaurant, though in a mall with TGI Fridays next door, is intimate within, with cozy booth seating ideal for couples. It will be hard to talk ourselves into eating anywhere else if we're visiting Knoxville and want a fine meal.

My new favorite place in knoxville! Superb waitstaff, complex and sophisticated dishes and an amazing wine list with top notch stemware. Yes I am a stickler for appropriate, thin, upscale stemware with wine! The correct glass enriches the wine experience and opens the bouquet. Perfect for dinner with clients or a romantic night out. Put Bistro on your Must Try list while in knoxville.

We had a business dinner here and the place didn't seem particularly promising, given that it's in a strip center. Nonetheless it turned out to be a great high-end restaurant, with the requisite wine and steak ambience. I had the Grilled Pork Chop with buttermilk mashed potatoes, spiced wine apples, and skillet corn, and it was near-perfect. We also had some kind of gnocchi appetizer that was great. I'd go back again if I actually lived in the area.

En route from Michigan to Atlanta, we needed a place to take a break and maybe find some lunch. The fare right off the highways is often dreck, so we ventured a few blocks away from I-75/40 and happened upon Bistro by the Tracks. The tinted windows obscured the inside so we didn't know what we'd found until we opened the door and saw the upscale, well decorated dining room, bar and wine area. After hours of driving, what a great resting place! A good menu, and accommodating for a vegan, along with great service. They were also very welcoming to our sometimes-well-behaved six year old. The risotto was prepared just right -- arborio rice not too mushy - and the salad was fresh with the waiter's dressing recommendation spot on. I've driven I-75 many times, but this is the first time I actually found a place to eat that I enjoyed rather than merely endured. I will plan our lunch or dinner stopping points around the Bistro by the Tracks next time I'm through Knoxville. Well worth the stop!

Not only was the food incredible the service was excellent! My friend could not have a certain cheese they used on a special they were serving and the waiter suggested an alternative to go along with the dish that was delightful. Will be back again soon.

Here's for a little bit of history. About 2 years ago it changed ownership. Randy Burleson, who owns Aubrey's, Stefano's, Barley's, and Sunspot bought this restaurant. It used to be owned by a Maryville couple named Gary and Bernadette Doyle. They ran this establishment for 13 years before selling it. It currently resides in Homberg in the location that Tuscany used to be years ago. Originally it was on Northshore Drive where the restaurant Rouxbarb is now, when it was actually by the tracks. Bistro plans to move to a new location as of August which will be on Northshore Drive behind the TGI Fridays. This location is currently under construction. They always have a fish and a soup feature which are usually wonderful. The drinks here are wonderful and not expensive however the wine is a different story because they have bottles like the Chateau Margaux for $1300.00. Of course they have more reasonable bottles of wine like these: 1221 Cabernet, Sebastiani Pinot Noir, David Bruce Petit Syrah, Trapiche Broquel Malbec, Folie a Deux Cabernet, King Estate Pinot Noir and the King Estate Pinot Gris. They have the best wine glasses in town! They have one of the best wine lists in town! My favorite appetizers are: Red Curry Scallops, Blt Stack (fried green tomatoes topped with goat cheese, bacon, and greens that are tossed in a chipotle lime vinaigrette), Calamari, and Fried Oysters (ask for the peach tartar sauce to go with the oysters, believe me it rocks). I enjoy all of our salads. The Iceberg Wedge is absolutely huge. It is the best wedge I have seen around town however I think it could use some fresh diced tomatoes which is does not have on it. If you want some tomatoes on it, tell your server and the kitchen will add them on there for you. The House Salad has their signature cheese grit croutons, basically deep fried grits. They are really good. All of the dressings are made at bistro which is a huge plus. I like the dressings that accompany each salad. You get to choose which dressing you want on the House Salad and my two favorites are the Chipotle Lime Vinaigrette and the Ranch (there are all sorts of fresh herbs in it). The Poached Pear Salad and the Beet and Goat Cheese Salad are very good. I also like the Strawberry Salad. The Strawberry Salad is also very good. If you are not that hungry you can order a salad and order a piece of grilled chicken, salmon, shrimp, or scallops. FYI, basically you can make up your own dish if you want to. My favorite entree's are: Truffled Scallops, Pan Roasted Chicken, Big Bistro Cheeseburger, and the Petit Filet. The burger is 12 ounces of the finest ground beef you can serve. You get the option of a Sweetwater Cheddar Cheese or a Gorgonzola Cheese on your burger and it is your option to choose bacon. It is awesome and only $12 for a huge portion! The filet is wonderful and it comes with a blue cheese macaroni cake which is their version of macaroni and cheese. The blue cheese is not very strong and it is delicious! They have the best creme brulee in town however I am not that crazy about the other desserts. The coffee is very good however it is not as good as the coffee at Northshore Brasserie. They have occasional wine dinners with great vineyards. It is the best place for wine dinners in town. MAKE RESERVATIONS. You will be guaranteed a table that way. There is also a nice size patio outside for people to dine at. This is a 5 star restaurant for Knoxville.

A must!! As far as I'm concerned there's only one thing on the menu... Scallops! OMG! the BEST I've ever had and I've been eating scallops all my life up and down the east coast. This dish is orgasmic (can I say that? IDK but it's true)!!! Go, go now and eat the scallops!! My mouth is watering just typing this review!! The atmosphere is great, good wine list and very attentive service!

Excellent food and service. I had the lobster corn dogs that were interesting, but good. As an entree I had the scallops, which were delicious and served over creamed corn! Nice wine menu and great atmosphere.

We finally found this place after it moved. I'm not sure if it was the night we went or that our memories had set our expectations too high, but it wasn't the 5 stars we remembered, rather a solid 4. Chicken Dinner (ordered with goat cheese on the side) - VERY good. The prunes and nuts in the reduced gravy were barely noticeable but made the dish. 5 out of 5 stars. Curry Scallop Appetizer - A little spicier than I remember and you need to order it "extra crispy" or the texture of the scallops is kind of mush. The flavor is great. 4 out of 5 stars. French Onion Soup - too watery. French onion soup and S&W Grand is much better. 2 out of 5 stars. Pork Belly - Too thin. More like double wide bacon than pork belly. Preparation was good. Salsa in beans was too over powering. Le Perego has better pork belly. 3 out of 5 stars. Cheese Plate - good servings, nothing exotic. Typical cheese plate, nothing fancy. 3 out of 5 stars.

We had a nice time here on Saturday night, October 3, 2009. We were told by our server that it was their last night in that location, as they were moving the next day. He also told us that several items on the menu were unavailable, which was not a biggie since none of us wanted any of the items he listed (lamb and chicken). I'm thinking though that he should have told us right away about the unavailable items instead of later on, after we had perused the menu. We ordered a bottle of my absolute favourite wine - Merryvale Starmont Cabernet Savignon, which at $58 was not too bad. I've had it elsewhere for a little more, and for a little less. It's good, you should try it. I ordered the petite filet which was excellent, along with an unremarkable baked penne. I asked to substitute the veggies with the twice baked potato and I was glad I did. The potato was enormous, creamy with a crunchy cheesey topping. Really too much to eat but I managed quite a bit. My husband loved his catfish and our dining companions were happy with their meals too. I had a few bites of Lauren's wedge salad (spectacular!) and Ian's roasted beet salad (with walnuts and goat cheese - delicious). I'll await Lauren's review to speak about her prime rib. I do think that since they were closing down and moving houe the next day, they skimped a bit on a few items. For instance - the bread they served was boring and kind of stale, and it was served with a slab of plain, unsalted butter. Yuck. Other than that, I liked this place. Too bad I'll probably never go again since I live far, far away. I'm also wondering if Mary T.'s bosses thinks it's okay for her to review the place she works at, while bashing Rouxbarb. I'm not 100% sure that's a good idea, Mary. Don't burn your bridges!

This used to be the best restaurant in town. That was before a major menu and chef change about 6 months ago. Higher prices, way less food, very limited menu. Check out the main course photo on this page and you will see what I mean. The food is good, but you would have to go with appetizer, salad, entree and dessert to get a decent size meal. Service is still excellent and the bar area is fun, especially if you know the local regulars. I am told the wine selection is very good.

I really did used to like eating here... but the last 2 times the appetizers really tasted bland, our entree's were overcooked. The seasonings were boring , the sides were also over cooked or maybe just microwaved to long ... yuck! Another problem the last time we were here...when I requested no butter on my fish the "chef" apparently had a problem with this and actually sent to waitress out to tell me he couldn't do that because it would be dry (heard of olive oil a**hole???) so my fish still had butter on it... but yet was so overcooked it was dry anyways... dry and greesy! Thats not good... The dessert menu didn't tempt me... and the wine list was just ok... the wine that was recommened was ok.Won't be back. I can go else where to spend this kind of money for much better food. The staff is friendly and the place is pretty... thats all I like.

Bistro by the Tracks is Knoxville's Ophir... its enigmatic magnificence... Quinquireme of Nineveh from distant Ophir, Rowing home to haven in sunny Palestine, With a cargo of ivory, And apes and peacocks, Sandalwood, cedarwood, and sweet white wine. - Masefield Though I'll have to give the laurels to By the Tracks - Solomon was only able to get his opulent fix once every three years... but instead of ivory and cedarwood Knoxville's hidden treasure tributes Australian Lamb and Pecan Crusted Catfish... Their viands are an alchemistic blend of world cuisine and Southern piquancy... Every course is psychedelic for the palate and soars just far enough over the gourmet canon to wow taste buds with no offense to sensibility... The composed interior, intimate waitstaff, replete wine cellar and breathtaking entrees top, but by no means comprise, the sheaf of virtues this miraculous restaurant owns... Your dinner can be consummated with scrumptious offerings such as French Grandmother's Cake and Crème Brulee... The culinary artist at Bistro by the Tracks is Chef Miller - an exacting gourmand with more than a quarter century of cooking experience beneath his broad belt... he also hosts monthly wine pairing dinners, each one an inventive take on this time honored tradition... Whether you're in Knoxville looking to impress a first date, catch a Vols game, show the love of your life a fabulous time, visit friends or treat your college student to something other than Ramen... this is your destination... You will not find a dining experience that surpasses Bistro by the Tracks...

Food was quite good as was the service. It sounds like the old location was in a cooler downtown locale, but the interior ambiance of the new location seemed fine.

Big thumbs up. To us, this was a "special occasion place" and we dressed appropriately. To others, it wasn't. Nice urban cosmopolitan decor. They seem to be all about wine - there is one wall of wine bottles; then a smaller tasting kind of room that was hosting an event. Our server was very knowledgeable and patient. The Lobster Corndog appetizer is one they are known for, it wasn't that great. Fish dinners were excellent. The coffee is amazin! It was a pricey night out, but a luxurious 2-hour dinner, and it was worth it.

Change can be a good thing, when good things happen to an existing gathering place for innovative and fine food. Bistro By the Tracks has lived up to neither. What was once an intimate setting for fun/fine dining, the newer owner saw fit to relocate to a less atmosphere-friendly environment, but forget all that. The menu and fare has suffered greatly since its transition to a menu 'trying to hard'. The most recent faux pas, the once vaunted burger. The bastion for a great burgers in the Knoxville area, they have too changed its composition and flavor for the worst. It now possesses two slight burgers that could never achieve a medium rare cooking temp, let alone a well done measurement. It's MickeyD's with a price tag of $15.00. Leave things alone, go back to a successful menu with great ingredients and flavors and whom ever is whispering in your ear the course(s) you are taking are a positive, walk away.

Dropped in last week visiting from Orange County, CA. Bistro was an all-around sound experience: Outstanding service from start to finish...very attentive and the waitstaff anticipated our needs before we had to ask. The location is good but apparently moving to a new location on Northshore Dr in August; Our entire party was very satisfied with their food selections; I started with the truffeled scallops (excellent!); they are normally a dinner plate only but offered it as a starter just because I seemed interested in the dish while talking with our waitress; my main plate was the filet, mid-rare, topped with stilton blue cheese....absolutely fantastic! The wine list (by glass and bottle) is comprehensive and offers many greats. Looking forward to visiting the new location when I am back in fall....
