Dang, wish I would have seen that 30 for 20 dollar Yelp checkin special BEFORE eating. That's ok, I'll certainly be back! Was enticed by the "Best Burger in Knoxville" boast on their sign so decided to give it a try since this place is right by my place. First, this is a small, local establishment which I like to support if possible, even if they are more expensive, it usually evens out in terms of quality ingredients and service as was the case here. The server was friendly and interested in our experience, showed a little pride in the establishment too. He had to have made a mistake because he told us the single barrel burger was 5 ounces, so we ordered the double. Those had to have been 8 oz patties because that was an IMMENSE burger. And it was a good one, I wouldn't say it's the best burger in town, but easily one of the best. Juicy, seasoned well, good bun. It was almost too much to finish. Fries were excellent, hand cut fresh. I'll have to return here soon. Oh yeah, place and bathrooms were very clean, that always tells me something. Don't judge a book by its cover, nice little place hidden in an unexpected location. Give them a try!

The burgers are fresh, great onion rings. We came in with a group, so it was a little hectic. The orders were right and so were the checks, doesn't always happen. The server seemed a little overwhelmed, but she's only been here 2 weeks. The owner came out to see how everything was, super friendly. Would recommend.

The "best burger in town" sign drew me in and I was not disappointed! Very good. I had a single patty burger with bacon (get the bacon!) and provolone. My friend got a double & could barely finish it. The bun was top notch, the toppings perfect. The meat is hand pattyed & cooked to order. Mine was a little under cooked, but that is better than overcooked in my opinion. The fries are perfect. Lots of other menu choices, I will be back!

A little slow but everything is made fresh. The burgers are great. The kids enjoyed the grilled chicken on the kids menu, always great to see something not fried on the kids menu. We did get the ranch and bacon fries, yummy! Everyone loved them. They also had some unique desserts, you should try the butter-finger cake. Also a local owner good opportunity to support local establishments.

Ate lunch at Backwoods Bistro today. I had a burger and onion rings plus drink which cost about $11.00. In my opinion there was nothing special about the burger it was similar to say fudruckers or Litton's. I don't think this was Angus beef or hand pattied. The bun was good and nice amount of tomato and onions on the burger. Thought I would get a more generous slice of Swiss cheese. The onion rings were probably the best part of the meal, probably homemade. It's hard to believe that for a couple bucks more you can eat an amazing imaginative grass fed or bison burger at the stock and barrel on market square. But for North Knoxville this is about as good as it gets in the Burger world which isn't half bad. The seats were comfortable, well lit restaurant, pleasant service, etc. Will probably come back and try something else on menu.

Unfortunately, many of the other reviews do reflect our experience. The food was average and much of it was bland. Hamburger was average to above average, chicken was okay, Mac and cheese, slaw were below average and bland, hand cut fries appeared home made but not our favorite kind, seemed greasy and a bit slimy (much like other restaurants who serve these type).

Very good food. The only thing I would change is the iceburg lettuce and the potato salad wasn't really to my preference. But the hamburgers and pulled pork were prepared very well and the most of the sides were delicious.

We were lucky enough to spot this place by accident, while driving along Maynardville pike. I have to be gluten free and the chef/owner was very well informed about gluten, so could help with my food choices. We had the hamburger steak plate and it was all good. We will be making this place a regular and they have a rewards cards.

Better burger try Littons or others in town. Did not get what we paid for on a to go order. Service was average at best. Seems they were more interested on the happenings on the tv than service.

I had the cheesesteak and bacon/ranch fries. I'd have to say the cheesesteak was easily the best you're going to get in the Knoxville area, and almost as good as you'll get at the popular places in Philly!

I took everyone's advice and got the Hillbilly Philly. What a great choice. This thing has chili, jalapeños, green peppers, mushrooms, cheese. It's fabulous. I highly recommend it though the atmosphere at the place is kind of nonexistent. 4 stars only because I'd like better side item choices.

Are you kidding me? This place is amazing. I was there with 6 friends and we all tried something differnet on the menu. The hush puppies are the best I've ever had! The brisket was to die for! Everything is made fresh so you will wait about 10 minutes for the food but it's well worth it. I will stop here often!

I travel a lot and am always on the lookout for a new food stop. We'll these guys have it going on. I ordered some smoked wings and split a burger with a friend. If you have ever had smoked wings it's likely you'll never be able to go back to the typical hot wings served everywhere else. To make it even better request their barbayaki sauce. The burger was freshly ground hamburger (yes they grind their own hamburger) with cheese, sautéed onions, and Jalepenos all melted together. It's the closest thing I've had to In and Out this side of the Mississippi. A bit hidden out of Knoxville it's worth the drive. Ask for Rusty!

Friendly staff at this very clean restaurant. My husband and I both had the August special burger and it was very good. We could tell it was quality beef and cooked just right, juicy and full of flavor. We also tried the ranch bacon fries and liked them a lot. They had some yummy looking deserts behind the counter but we were just way too full. So if you're in the Fountain City area and want just a really good burger, defiantly make a stop here.

WOW!! Been working over here off of Broadway since last year's pretty and never thought to go to this place. I just had the most amazing hamburger I've ever eating in my life AMAZING!!!! Please do not pass this place up at all, not an option. Go eat here please. Thank You Backwoods Bistro!

I ordered the Chicken Tender Basket with fries and my Husband ordered the Buffalo Chicken Tender Basket with mac'n cheese, to go. I can tell you this was our first visit to B.B. and our last. We had no issues with the service but we did think they were over priced compared to similar restaurants in the area. The real disappointment was the food. My husband commented on how small he thought the tenders were, especially for the price and tasted only mediocre. He said the mac'n cheese tasted like it came from a box. My chicken tenders were also only mediocre and the fries were just gross. The were limp and greasy not to mention the odd color. Good luck should you decide to try them but I wouldn't recommend any of the chicken baskets.

I have seen some great reviews on this place in a few places, like the local paper and yelp, so I decided to try it out. I've been in Knoxville 12 years and have never ventured to Maynardville Hwy, but this was worth the drive. It's located in a strip mall so watch for where to turn. I ordered a burger and fries to go. The waitress was very friendly. The burger was great - very flavorful and juicy. The hand cut fries were also very good. I would have expected more fries when billed as a basket of fries. Five Guys has spoiled me with fry portion size. There were several homemade desserts also available - the mini cupcakes were yummy! The to go ordered came out fast too, always a bonus. They participate in the LoyaltyTree program so I downloaded the app and next time I'll get 15% off. Good thing because I definitely plan on going back.

Finally someone with some passion about food. The Hillbilly Philly was hands down top five sandwiches I have ever had. He said he came up with it on a whim, and what a splash it is making. Good atmosphere, good service. Wife and kids leave there happy too. Well worth the price, and you will leave there happy. What I liked is that he wanted your feedback. Most people these days want your money. He told me that if I didn't like the Hillbilly after one bite he would fix me the sandwich I was thinking about ordering. He wants you to like it........and these days that goes a long way. Try it!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely delicious! This is the kind of place you love being at, leave thrilled you were there and on the way home think of when you can get back. I had the cheesesteak (loaded) with the ranch/bacon fries...must have! My wife had a delicious grilled cheese with sautéed mushrooms and onions. Daughter had the Chloe's Mac and Cheese and devoured every bite. My son had the chicken nuggets (lightly battered and fresh chicken). I kept scoring bites when he wasn't looking as the BBQ sauce is something special...the ranch and honey mustard are homemade as well and delicious. To top it off...don't forget to try some of the desserts, even if you are full and need to bring some home. We loved the mini red velvet cupcakes (and didn't even feel guilty)! I bet if you go once you'll be back again and again.
