Fantastic hometown service. A true mom n pop place. No inside seating. Call ahead your orders. Get any of the bomb sandwiches. They serve up over 300 a day! The shakes are famous. A friend goes for the intimidator...see photo! Over 1lb of a huge burger. Got it BBQ pulled pork.

Just do it! You want to and you won't regret it. The menu is huge. I might pull up along side the building and take some photos of it or just ask at the window for a little guidance. I panicked and just went double cheeseburger but there are lots of options. The fries are amazing. As tasty and crispy as McDs but with more meat. Must have. I didn't get a shake and regret it. I wish it wasn't 3.5 hours away from Charlotte.

Love everything there! The milkshakes are the bomb too. My favorites are the reese cup and the banana.

Where can you get a burger, fries and a drink for $2.79 no where I know of and that's exactly what my meal cost . Crazy cheap and very yummy. With prices like that this place stays busy. Driving past at dinner time car a are of course wrapped around the building . You can call your order in and tell them what kind of car you drive and they will bring it out to your car! If you are in the area you should for sure stop by this place!!

Purple Cows. A hot dog squirting ketchup on its head. Why wouldn't you want to give this place a try? Lol. On our way to TN I took out my handy Yelp App and searched for a lunch spot. Came across Purple Cow. Thanks Yelp family! This place is drive through only. No seating or parking. Just grab your food and go. There is a McDs nearby along with a bunch of other food places. You can always park somewhere and eat in your car. We stood outside and used our car trunk as a table :P The drive through line was quite long when we arrived. That's gotta be a good sign right? It was! They offer burgers, sandwiches, shakes, and so much more. I'll post some pics of their menu. Pricing is great for the amount of food they give. It's a LOT and everything we tried was a hit. Service is very friendly. They do their best to be quick. It took me 2 mins just to figure out what I wanted. Their menu is incredibly extensive. They even have pictures of specials posted around the pick up window that aren't on their menu board. Skip the chains and head over here instead. You'll be glad you did. Come hungry or ready to share.

Other than no place to eat in, this is definitely "WHERE THE LOCALS EAT" when we want good food fast ... and everyone regrets that it's 'Drive-thru' only. You can call ahead to order, and speeds things up - and who in Kingsport DOESN'T have Purple Cow on speed dial! Their menu is extensive, got to be something for everyone ... and everything they do - they do well! (If you wait in line at high tide, it could be awhile - sometimes the lines block 1 or 2 restaurants driveways, because everyone wants COW!) THEY'D GET A 5 IF THEY PUT IN SIT-DOWN SPACES!

Super friendly people! I told the gentleman taking my order it was my first time there. I asked him what I should get. He gave me excellent suggestions! A spicy chicken sandwich, onion rings, and an Irish chocolate milkshake. Oh. My. Goodness! Super yummy! And he gave my dog a Milkbone treat! She loved it too. :)

They have a family of rats that live under their dumpster, supply shed, and outside eating area. Also I have seen bugs in the ice on multiple occasions. I thought the food was pretty good until I noticed both of those things. I will never eat there again until the pest problem is solved. Search "Purple Cow Kingsport Rats" on YouTube for a video of some of the rats under their dumpster and supply shed.

I enjoyed and frequented this location. I recently stopped after seeing rats on the property.

Over priced mediocre food, $16 for a burger fries and large drink then had to wait for nearly 15 mins on my food while people in line behind me for theirs and drive away, will be a while before eating there again

I'm giving this place a 2 stars because of the awful service! The guy at the window was a total jerk and accused us of stealing his pen thathe let us borrow. What a jerk. But the food is outstanding. pals is way way better though.

Great food. If you want a quick bite I suggest you go. Lots to choose from over 4,000 items on the board. Great milkshakes.

We stopped in and grabbed a couple steak bombs. Totally awesome. Kids had burgers and said they were tasty. Fries were huge and tasty. Definitely won't leave hungry.

Visiting from Maryland and heard wonderful things about the purple cow from the locals! Everything we ordered was amazing and reasonably priced.

We had the burgers, fried pickles, and onion rings. I wasn't crazy about the onion rings, but LOVED the burger and the real hand dipped fried pickles. I don't think these are the frozen kind. The prices aren't too bad and they have Cheesecake Factory cheesecake.

Okay. I've been jonesing for a muffuletta since I realized I couldn't take the dog into Central Grocery in NOLA and could leave her on the car. So imagine my surprise to find one here. Don't know if they use the same olive salad but I can't fault it or the meat or the bread. Yummy goodness and while the potato salad looked too "saucy" it was delicious.

Not much meat on sandwhich. Staff is SO FRIENDLY! It is fast food and has a different twist. Definitely was a line. I got the bbq pork and broccoli bites.

The food is terrific...the wings are the best around! Steak bomb is a favorite too. I wish the building and surrounding lot looked a little cleaner.

After finding this place on YELP we had to try it. Long wait in line to order but worth it. The breadth and depth of the menu is staggering on your first visit. The chicken and steak bombs were solid( hot subs on homemade rolls ). The house specialty shake is the "purple". Garbage can fries and Heman dog include toppings like chili, jalepenos an onions. It would take numerous visits to get a grasp on the whole menu. Locals know to call ahead and pull over to the side and they will bring your order out.

The place looks very low key and it is drive thru only. They definitely let their food do the talking. We got 2 burgers, one supreme and one regular cheeseburger, fries, a classic italian sub, cole slaw and a milkshake, all for $15, so it is very fairly priced. The food was great. the burgers were juicy and well built. My only complaint would be that either the bun needs to be smaller or the burger larger, but that is very minor in my opinion. The italian sub was fantastic, lots of meat and well built. We got the Purple Milkshake, which is really black cherry. Very good, not too sweet which I like. Overall, if you're in the area (we were passing by on our way to KY), it is definitely worth a stop.

it's a deeeelicious burger joint that does more than just burgers. and i'm pretty sure those broccoli bites were homemade, and positive they were plain delicious. they may take their time cooking it and you'll have to wait in line but it's definitely worth the wait.

Came through on a short family trip and was told to try this place by some locals. It's definitely comfort food. A wide variety of fast food but so much better tasting. I ordered the steak bomb and it was the best steak sandwich I've had outside of Philly. The shakes are good too - tried marshmellow, pineapple, chocolate/peanut butter. All very very good. They can do any meal in a kid meal so that was great for the kids. My husband loved the sub sandwiches. He tried the steak bomb and the egg salad sandwich both in the giant size. Giant is the key word. They are huge! Enough for two people. The lines are pretty long because the food is good and it's cheap. During the dinner rush it took over 20 mins to get our food for a family of four. We didn't mind. I'm glad someone recommended this place. It's one of those local favorites I assume.

Sure, they sell food too. The fried green tomatoes are pretty good. But I love this place for the milkshakes - probably 15 or 20 different flavor choices, and they're all great.

You must visit if you're in town! Yes, there's usually a line going out to the highway but it's for a good reason and not because of slow service. They have a very extensive menu for a drive-thru, everything from burgers and subs to steak dinners and salads. We keep a menu in our car so we can figure out what we want before we get there. Their $3 something burger, drink, fries deal drives me here when I'm out this way with the kids, but my primary motivation for visiting is they have Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake in more than a few awesome flavors!! (how many drive-thrus can boast that!?) Aside from the Cheesecake being awesome, their burgers are definitely fresh-grilled and have that grill flavor, everything can be ordered your way, and if you're in a car line waiting for your food, and yours is ready before the person in front of you, they'll often just bring it out to you. (I imagine someone ordering a well-done steak with salad and potato would wait longer than someone ordering fries and dessert, so they do their best at preventing unnecessary waits.) And I didn't know locals can call ahead so Thank you Fred U. for posting that! I'll keep that in mind! Definitely recommend this place!

Everything we get there is wonderful. The Reuben has marinated beef and is so big, it's 2 meals. And this is what really gets me; they have the best lasagna I have found in the Tri-Cities! It sells out before I can get there sometimes!

purple cow is delicious and super-cheap. i got a bacon cheeseburger for under $3 and it was way bigger and fresher than anything you'd get a fast food chain. the side of chili cheese fries was messy (as it should be) and flavorful--we loved the chili. my oreo milkshake was $2 for a small, and any bigger would've been way too much. it was easy to see why the line was so long, especially in an area that seems to be otherwise completely dominated by chain restaurants. that said, only real downsides were a long wait to order/receive food, and a lack of seating--they have a tiny deck with a couple of benches on it, but it's really hard to actually park and sit there once you pick up your food. the pick up window is right next to the exit, and the parking spots are kind of all behind you at that point with no space to turn around or back up.

Love the fudge milkshakes here... Amazing! The "bombs" are great too although not so great for your arteries. Unfortunately there can be a pretty lengthy line around dinner time.
