The food was awesome! I'm from New Mexico and the food was authentic! The service was great. Beautifully decorated. I would definitely go back!

What a great new addition to the restaurant options in Hendersonville! I've visited with my family twice and we have enjoyed it both times. We visited on a Monday and a Sunday night and there was no wait. It's probably a good idea to make reservations on a Friday or Saturday night because they are obviously more crowded...just like any other restaurant is on those nights. The guacamole is delicious, as are all the house favorites. Good happy hour too. Very friendly staff. And to top it all off, they give you free sopapillas for dessert...you can't beat that! We will be returning!

Went last night to try it out. Arrived at apox. 6:45 and was told 60-70 minute wait. At 7:55 I went up and asked how much longer, after seeing about 10 other people go up and say they were still waiting several minutes past their expected wait time. We were seated at 8:05. Took 10 minutes for a server to greet us and take our drink order. We ordered the dip platter as well. When we got our drinks from the bar and water, we put in our order. About 15 minutes go by and we stop the waitress and ask when our dip sampler would be out and she said soon. About 10 minutes later our food arrives. I tell the person who brought it out to tell our waitress we didn't want the dip anymore. It took our waitress another 10 minutes to check on us and see if our meal was ok. Now, the right thing for them to do would have either been 1.) bring the dip anyways and don't charge us or 2.) a free drink or dessert. Neither happened. The service was a terrible, a 1 star. The food was a 4. I got a salad and it was delicious, but there were tons of brown lettuce pieces, which is uncalled for at this price point. My husbands was good, but he was sick the rest of the night. We will probably return in a couple of weeks and give it one more try and hopefully the service will have improved. It will be nice to have another option to Carrabbas and Chop House.

We got there when they opened and were seated right away. The waitress got our drink order and when she got back with the drinks we gave her our food order. All within the first 5 min we were there. The dip sampler is assume and so was the rest of our meal. The server was very good. We got tea refills when needed without having to ask. This review is based on very early in the day when they were not busy. The tasty food, for me, would be worth waiting for. The atmosphere was great.

We were really looking forward to eating here because we both lived in New Mexico previously. To start, the chips were too chewy and not to our liking. However, the salsa was absolutely delicious and spot on. Next, my wife had a sampling of a few items to get an idea of what the sauces were like. The tamale with the Baja sauce was mushy and had way too much sour cream in it. The chicken enchilada was delicious and the red sauce was true to New Mexican tradition. The chili relleno with green sauce was a mixed bag; the green chili sauce itself was perfect, however, the relleno clearly was frozen and was so overcooked the cheese had seeped out from the inside. I asked the server to find out and, yes, indeed, the green chili and relleno were flown in from New Mexico. While the green chili itself was spot on, I highly suggest they try a different source for their relleno because it was absolutely horrible. I myself had the Tres tacos and wife and I both agreed it was the better of all the dishes we tried (despite the tacos, like the chips, being too chewy). The chicken itself was very tender and spiced perfectly. For dessert, each table is given free sopapillas. While this was a nice change from the charges one might incur at say, Chuy's, we prefer the traditional sopapillas , which comes with cinnamon powdered sugar and honey ( these only came with honey). Overall we would be back to get some green chili sauce and take it home, but that's about it

Sopapilla's has great food, a date night or nice family dinner atmosphere, friendly staff, and is in a great spot at Indian Lake. Their shrimp quesadilla is one of my favorites.

I came here during "happy hour" one night... And I'm glad I did. If you order appetizers at the bar during happy hour, you get those half off as well. The bar tender was very nice and talked to me about music the whole time I was there. Usually I don't dig that but he and I shared musical interests. The drink menu is stacked with many kids of tequilas and median beers for you to enjoy during your meal!

Definitely a "meh" sort of place. Great ambiance and design, but food quality definitely not a match. Had the prices been cheaper to match the food quality, I would have given it a better review (take note of hi-gloss designer photos on this site; they were not taken by guests!). Pros: *Green chili sauce is authentic and delicious. I wonder if they sell it as a stand alone item. *Salsa is fantastic and also authentic. *Good chicken in tacos. *Great red sauce. Cons: * Chips and tacos are in house but too chewy. Make the oil hotter and cook them faster. * Tamale is too mushy. * Baja sauce has too much sour cream and salt. * Rellenos are overcooked and taste horrible. Please consider outsourcing from a different vendor for more authenticity. * Sopas need to be fried in (again) hotter oil and faster. We will be back for the green chili sauce and salsa if they sell it a la carte. Truly a disappointment.

Ambiance contributes to 1/2-1 of stars as they definitely did that part well. I have been here for 2 done-in meals and 1 to-go. The food is OK, they also offer a gluten-free menu (but is only available in person last time I checked.) The chips are pretty good and definitely fresh, the salsa is good but nothing extraordinary, the guacamole is alright...edible but I wouldn't order it again. I got a couple of gluten-free dishes to go, they seemed very bland and both chicken and pork were dry in addition to lack of flavor. This is a cool ambiance for sure, best thing I've ordered was carne asada--pretty standard, I think it was fajitas, very heavy on bell peppers in my opinion. I haven't been here for a while however the times I have been the service was mediocre, at best it was a kind waitress who rarely came around, at worst a bunch of bussers/barbacks who didn't seem to know what to do to coordinate food getting to table...well-intentioned A's they were. Also it is definitely on pricey-side considering "eh" factor and portion sizes... I don't care about huge portions but felt like they were giving you just enough food to still be hungry...

Mexican food in the New Mexican style and I agree. Not as good as being in New Mexico but it has all the favorites : blue corn tortillas, green and red salsa, and of course sopapillas. I have enjoyed several items on the menu. The atmosphere is sophisticated and modern. The staff is friendly but can be a little casual for the atmosphere. For a nice adult dinner this is a good place to come.

I still haven't found a crab enchilada in the Nashville area, so my quest continues. However, I have to admit that Sopapillia's Enchiladas Del Mar are very tasty. They have a lot of shrimp and a little crab, and I did enjoy them a lot. But, . . . We showed up about 7:30, and were seated immediately. My daughter ordered one of their specialty drinks and was told that they didn't have it, so she was a little disappointed. My wife had a Cosmo, and thought it was just alright. I tried their Grand Margarita, and really enjoyed it. We started with the table-side guacamole, and everybody loved it. But the chips weren't up to the task of scooping the guacamole. There aren't a lot of vegetarian-friendly items on the menu, but my daughter was very happy with her Mango Y Piña salad. And everyone enjoyed the fresh sopapillias for dessert.

Love the blue corn chicken tacos! The guacamole doesn't have much flavor do I'm not a fan but the salsa and queso are great!

Great lunch today! Service was good and prompt. I had kale salad which included grilled chicken, oranges, strawberries, feta cheese, pecans. Excellent! The experience was topped off with complimentary soapapillias. .

Uuuumm are you serious? This is how I feel about this venue. I have eaten multiple times on the sheer fact that I could not believe how bad it was! Let's break this down! First service, good! Servers knowledgable. Hostesses little divàish, but hey what's new. Ambience, this restaurant doesn't flow the tall booths feel like cubicles obstructing the view of anything. It feels tight and restrictive like your in time out, when the food hits the table you realize, you are! High end Mexican doesn't work in the suburbs. People only eat overpriced Mexican to be seen and feel chic, but your in a cubical so that's not happening. I've had the kale salad, queso, tuna, quesadillas, tacos, and margaritas. Margaritas awesome, and the shrimp bacon quesadillas were good. All other food was ok, bland, dry. Knock out everything to open floor plan and go tapas. Good luck you should be packed with that location!!!

When there are great Mexican restaurants in such abundance, there's no need to even try this place. The service is bad, but not horrible, the building is has some nice fixtures, but the food is mediocre and significantly more expensive than the many other fantastic Mexican restaurants. The owners have little to no restaurant experience; I'm very surprised they remain open. (I'm ready for a great new restaurant in this place.)

Just had lunch at the Hendersonville location. Have also had dinner at the Franklin location, just one time each. I love New Mexican style food, so I was very excited to try it out. I intend to try each location again, but for now, my thoughts are; Franklin- service was off the chart good. Like high end, fine dining good. Our server got a huge tip. I had a margarita...awesome. All the food both me and my date tried was terrific. Possibly the best chile relleno I've ever had and easily the best I've had in TN. Fantastic experience. Hendersonville- the service didn't suck, but the kid was a little too jokey and chatty. Felt like I was at an Applebees or something. Had the same exact meal as I had at the Franklin location and it was pretty darn good, but nowhere near as good as the Franklin location I may try the Hendersonville location again to see if my experience was a fluke. Will go back to the Franklin location any time I'm down that way

My wife and I had lunch yesterday at Sopapilla's after church and it was wonderful. Both of our meals were great and the service was awesome. We will definitely be going back again. Honestly, I was a little skeptical because of poor service the last time I was there but was pleasantly surprised yesterday.

First time here and I would say I am well pleased. The atmosphere is wonderful and the decor is upscale. I had a wonderful time looking through the menu. There were several items I wanted to try but decided on the "Mexico City Tacos". This is a traditional taco served where more "typical" Mexican food is served. The tacos are served with corn tortillas, an avocado slice, fresh cilantro and your choice of meat. I opted for beef. The beef was cooked perfectly and was tender. I asked for limes and fresh jalapenos and they were brought out with my food. This is not your ordinary Mexican restaurant. The food is more upscale without being "fine dining". The atmosphere and food lends itself to a more casual dining experience but more refined. I would suggest this place to anyone and look forward to going back myself. At the end of the meal they brought out complementary sopapillas and honey. A great ending. If you go, let me know what you think.

The chips and salsa were great. The cheese dip/guac/bean dip combo was good. We got the fish tacos. They were mediocre- kinda dry and flavorless. I should have asked for extra sauce. Overall, the experience was fine but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

First time visitor. Party of 4. Rude hostess. Very poor service and waiting etiquette. More than half of our orders were incorrect. Orders did not come out together. Extremely dirty menus. Food is Fair for a full-service restaurant.

Actually went to Sopapilla's two days in a row, so yeah we liked it. Was in Nashville for the weekend and picked the restaurant based on Yelp review for dinner. Did the reservation from the Yelp site and it worked perfectly. Got lost on our way and called for directions and they couldn't have been nicer. The food was good (not great), but the service was very very rushed. Had barely touched the dip sampler when the entree arrived. Barely finished that when the sopapilla arrived. Not sure if they were just trying to turn the table or what. Food wise, the dip sampler, what we ate of it was good, the shrimp quesadilla was above average, but the sopapila was a huge disappointment. It was one small square of slightly tough fried dough. An embarrassment really, given the restaurant name. Saying all that, we went back the next day for drinks before a movie. The bar service was great (but we were the only bar customers as it was early afternoon). Oh and chips and salsa were the best. Will definitely go back next time Im in town, but will forcibly slow down the service so we can really taste the food and will look at any other dessert options.

What a huge disappointment! We were there on a Saturday night and they were "out" of so much! They had run out of beans, 2 different Mexican beers, and water glasses! How do you run out of beans at a NM restaurant?!? The Carnitas were unusual. They tasted like a sweet BBQ pork rather than a Southwest Carnitas flavor. The Green chile that was smothered over my burrito was good but I had to substitute the missing pinto beans and the portion size was small. The manager came over and apologized for the issues but she never offered any kind of gesture to our table. That's a band business call. When you value your customers, extend them a courtesy like a free dessert or a discount in the ticket so that they don't walk out with such a poor opinion of your restaurant and will come back when your management of the place improves! My family is from the SW area and I love New Mexican food. I was really excited to try this restaurant out. What a disappointment, a serious disappointment!

Just ok...one warning: everything was super spicy!!! We started with the dip sampler. ..yummy but very spicy. All of the entrees were so spicy we only ate half...one of us ordered extra sour cream and a tiny plastic container was delivered with a $1 charge?! REALLY? I attempted to order coffee at the end of dinner and was told that they had french press coffee only with a limited number of pots and they were all out with other guests....really? We were there for a girls evening to help a bride to be celebrate...no acknowledgement of that.... service was very impersonal...no dessert menu other than free sopapillas which were plain fried dough with a squeeze bottle of honey which tasted bitter...the worse sopapillas ever...they also started closing up at 9pm on a Saturday night! What the heck? We will not be back.

I made reservations for 4 on opentable.com . We were given the nice separate party room, you can see it in the pictures posted to yelp. That was pretty awesome. I must warn you, the drinks are crazy expensive. We had the dip appetizer and I was good. Everyone at the table liked what they ate but agreed the prices were too high

We splits the chicken fajitas. They were delicious with yellow tomatoes and a variety of colored peppers. Salsa was delicious along with chips. Service was friendly and timely. The inside is beautiful & great for a datenight. They have out door dining in the front and back. The back tables face the outdoor fountains. Shops, Barnes&noble, Starbucks all within walking distance. Great location.

The food is pretty good and always seems fresh. Service has been hit or miss hence only 4 stars. But they do have the best salsa and margaritas in town. Great for happy hour with friends to relax after a long day.

Really enjoyed a lunch at the Hendersonville location! Split the Shrimp Quesadillas with my dad, and really enjoyed them. The salsa is fresh, chips are great (a little on the salty side), and the complimentary sopapillas are always worth the visit.

We recently dined at Sopapilla's with a fairly large party. I have to say the food has improved. I posted a review a few months ago that was not very favorable. It sems they have stepped up their program. The food was fine and the wait staff had a good attitude. I thiink you should give it a try.

Like others, we went hoping for a successful upscale Mexican restaurant in Hendersonville, similar to the one that's in the Gulch downtown. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. Some successes, but mostly failures, and a price point that, for Hendersonville, just doesn't match the food quality. First, we arrived around 4 p.m. to find the restaurant deserted except for one cook and the bartender, who seated us. He was attentive at first, but soon turned brusque when he realized we didn't want to drink heavily at 4 in the afternoon on a weekday. The atmosphere is nice of course, left from when it was the former restaurant in this location. They no longer have the open kitchen which is a shame, that was a nice selling point. The hand-made guacamole was good, no question about that, but it was the highlight of the meal. As others have reported, the salsa, both varieties, is just spicy. Not a lot of other flavor to it. The food was delivered promptly, very hot (which was expected since we were the only guests) and it had to cool several minutes before we could eat it. The main complaint? It was WAY too spicy yet simultaneously bland. You ask how are those two things possible coincidentally? Easy. WAY too much ground hot peppers mixed into the sauces and bases and not enough OTHER non-hot spices. I've spent a LOT of time in Mexico, and this is NOT how they cook, nor is it even appetizing. In short, they took food that COULD have been a HUGE success and spiced it to the point that it kills your flavor pallet, so that any other flavors are just completely hidden after you get hit with the heat. If you're the sort of person that munches on habaneros as a snack, you might enjoy this. Otherwise, they need a new head chef to rework the flavor balances. Until we see reviews here that reflect that change, we won't be back.

we went here on a Saturday night around 630pm and a few minutes wait time! we were seated close to the bar in a booth- too close to the server area where they put their orders in and pick drinks up from the bar, so staff was extremely loud and we could hear all their conversations :/ but the food was yummy and the drinks (sweetheart margaritas) were poured weak but still very tasty! we will for sure go back but maybe ask for a different place to sit :)

  • Mary C.

We were skeptical about trying this place for lunch because of the poor reviews but we were not disappointed. For starters the chips and salsa were very good. We ordered the queso and it was fantastic! It had just the right amount of spice for a good flavor without being to hot. Also, I love when my cheese is all melty and stringy. Shows good quality =) For lunch I had the fajita quesadillas and mom had blue corn chicken tacos. Both delicious. The tacos were my favorite. Only negative is I didnt get my sweet tea refilled but the waitress Maggie quickly appologized and brought me a sweet tea to go.

We have eaten here at least four times already. The half off appetizers and drinks on Sunday afternoon is the better deal here. We have enjoyed chitchatting at the bar with the bartenders more than dining at a regular table the last few times we have been. The food is a little too spicy for me at times but my husband loves it. (You can request less spicy salsa, etc if need to). The stuffed sopapilla platter is my favorite and the drinks are good but a little on the expensive side (except for happy hour). I like that you have sopapillas for dessert for every meal. This is a good date place or just to hang out. Love the ambiance and the fire pit outside.

Leaving my review at a 2. I haven't been back but was contact by the owner or the manager - he offered to "make it right" if I would email him. WHICH I DID and NEVER heard back. Sooooo, I guess, just like my previous visit, they just don't care. Probably won't go back there are too many other great places!

The. Food here is good, very pricey, but good. The service is also good. Be very careful, they add 18 percent tip for a party of 6. For my money, I'll get my tacos and beans/rice at another place.

A friend told us about this place. It is the best new Mexican food in Tennessee.I recommend this to anyone who likes Mexican food.It is very Fresh and Service is fantastic and the salsa AMAZING!!!! After you eat they give you complimentary sopapilla's and a bottle of honey to put on top of the sopapilla's the honey helps get the spice out of your mouth :)

I can't say enough great things about this place. The table side guacamole and open face New Mexico Tacos are to die for. I have taken all out of town guest, and family here for special occasions and it never disappoints.

The cooks brought it today for lunch .I had the tuna sliders they were great and my wife had the chicken burrito (I ate half) and it was good also.

  • Brian D.

It's a little expensive but you can still get entrees for as little as $12-$13 so it's not terrible. But even if it was more expensive it would still be cheaper than a drive (or flight) to Santa Fe which is where you'd have to go get authentic New Mexican cuisine of this caliber. I recommend the stuffed poblano pepper. Skip the sauce that comes with it and request their Hatch green chili instead with enchilada on the side instead of the menu option. If the stuffed poblano isn't for you then go with one of their burritos. It's safe, tasty, and massive. I've had the stuffed sopapilla as well and I would skip it--unimpressive.

Went to Sopapilla's after the movies last weekend and it was terrible. My wife and I have definitely marked this restaurant off our list! The food had no taste and it was expensive.

I had incredibly high hopes for this place. We went here for dinner on Saturday night around 5:00. There was a 10 min wait that turned out to be a 25 min wait. After being seated it was clear the service was slow. Our waitress didn't greet us for about 5 mins. It took another 5 mins to get drinks and chips/salsa. The chips weren't anything special and the salsa was overly spicy. There wasn't much flavor just spicy. We ordered a sampler of guacamole, queso, and beans. The queso and guacamole were good but the beans were not. I ordered the fish taco's and my wife got a enchilada sampler. The food was very colorful but it was all either bland or over spiced. It's like they thought they just mix Cheyenne pepper with every dish. The also brought me a dirty fork. It took 10 mins for them to bring me the check. We had to get another waitress to find our server. It was only like the 2nd or 3rd time I've ever not left a tip. This restaurant is all flash and no substance. It's expensive too. If you go Casa Vieja or Rio Bravo You will get better food, unbelievable service, and you will pay half the price. Truly disappointing. The bill was 50 bucks for 2. We were seated within 1 foot of people on the left and people on the right. No privacy. Will never go back.

This is the first good Mexican food I've had since we moved to Hendersonville. It was actually the best Mexican we've had in years. I'm from Arizona and all the delicious green chile and slow roasted meat was a taste of home. The table side guacamole was fresh and delicious and a very classy presentation of a staple that can be range from boring to bad at most places. We did call ahead seating on a packed Saturday night and were sat immediately, and had excellent service. This is definitely my new favorite place, it's upscale but had really good prices on the standards and dinner included chips and deliciously hot salsa for an appetizer and sopapillas for dessert. If you go definitely try the tamale, it might be the best tamale I've ever had.

  • Danielle S.

Fabulous ambience. Great service. Table side guacamole rocked. Margarita Monday made my day as they were freshly made. Couldn't decide what to eat for dinner as the menu is enticing, but final decision was the awesomely marinated steak fajitas. Enjoy

Always a great place to get my fix of green chili. This is not your typical Mexican Resteraunt. It is NEW MEXICAN, it's different. I've always had great service when dining here and I LOVE their red Sangria. They have a white sangria too, but I prefer a less sweet drink, so I stick with the red. They do have happy hour, call ahead to find out times because I can't remember :) I like their tres tacos, fish tacos and their green chili cheeseburger. Happy Soppapilla-ing after your meal, warm sopas served with honey.

Delicious Mexican food! My family has eaten here several times and we have always been impressed with both the service and food. Margaritas are great as are their other cocktails. Decent wine and tequila options. My favorite are the Mexican street tacos - perfect - and the guacamole is a must have. My husband's favorite includes the tamale. It's hard to find a really good tamale in a restaurant and these really are great. Ending the dinner with a few sopapillas is a must!! Being from California it's nice to finally find some decent Mexican where the you aren't worried about the health code score.

  • Matt F.

The food was fine, atmosphere was fine, service was fine. No complaints at all, but it just wasn't anything special. The queso and bean dips stood out because they were spicy, but everything else was just pretty, well, normal. I guess we were expecting much more for the price point. We'll probably go back someday, but I'm not counting the hours till we do.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
