In Hendersonville on business yesterday and got hungry. I can't say what drew me to this place. Possibly because it wasn't a franchise burger joint. Anyway, I walk in am seated at a two-top. Looking around, the place looks like a converted "retro" diner with some Mexican stuff plopped on top of the existing decor. Weird, but whatever...I didn't come here to critique the decor, I came here to eat. Waitress came over and took my drink order. Busboy brought me a basket of chips and a carafe(!) of salsa, which looked like ketchup. So, I wasn't holding out hope for a great dining experience. Surprisingly, the salsa was quite good! I can only guess it's made fresh, in-house. Very bright tomato flavors. I ordered one of the specials from the lunch menu. Flautas, rice and beans. I was given the option of beef or chicken for the flautas. I chose beef and was pleasantly surprised to find they were stuffed with a shredded barbacoa style beef rather than picadillo. They could use some sauce or more seasoning on the beef. Very bland. Rice and beans were about what you'd expect. Guacamole was a bit thin. Biggest surprise is they have horchata. I have not seen it in any Mexican joint since I moved to this State. I didn't try any on this visit. Maybe if I go back...

We have been to the old and the new location. We enjoyed both. I'm not sure why the previous recent reviews were so negative. We had great service. The restaurant was clean. The food was delicious with large portions. My husband and I are very critical about Mexican restaurants as we have an extremely good restaurant where we live. However, we really enjoyed our meals at the new location today. When we return to Hendersonville we will not hesitate to return for another great meal. My husband had chicken fajitas and I had camarone a la Mexicana. Yum!

As far as I'm concerned, this is best Mexican food in Hendersonville. Their salsa and chips are wonderful. The service is fantastic and very consistent. My favorite is Milenesa which is a deep fried round steak..it is magnifico. Best fajitas and Carnitas in town too. The staff is very friendly and Ricardo and his family are great hosts and hostesses!

I find it very hard to believe that no one has reviewed Ricardo's since their recent move to the former Chee Burger Chee Burger / Bay Brothers Grill location. I will just say this move was overall a colossal fail. I was a regular patron to the Ricardo's in front of the driving range almost weekly for years. The move down the street has changed not only the food (which we all go for, right?) but the attitude and ambience and the overall restaurant as a whole is too much of a change for me. I used to be a big fan of their authentic tacos mexicanos which were flavorful and a good bang for your buck. Fast forward and the steak tacos mexicanos are filled with tiny, small bite, dog-food size pieces of hard steak meat that is just not appetizing and I think the tacos' price may have increased. I will continue on with the food as I've tried 3 different things since the move and found the same thing in all entrees and other items tried.... there is absolutely no flavor or spice in the meat. A beef taco salad should have some flavor to the meat but it is just basically mush that is not close to what was served at their former location. The overall restaurant is cold (as in temperature) - this is something that is consistent with other restaurants that have been in the same location; because the servers are up running around doesn't mean that customers by the large, glass windows aren't freezing. You can tell an employee that you're cold and it falls on deaf ears as if one is not speaking in the proper language to be understood. There was a sign on the door the last time that I tried the (new) Ricardo's that said 5% discount if paying cash. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a sign like that and it aggravated me that if I'd known, I could have stopped at an ATM to accommodate their request. The servers are just not as friendly as they were in their older location. I am not sure if it is stress or just the general getting used to the new normal but it seems like the servers aren't as happy. If it has been awhile since you've been to Ricardo's and you want to try the new location, take cash and prepare to be disappointed as it is sadly just isn't the same.

Love this restaurant. Fish tacos on corn tortillas are delicious and so fresh!!! Staff is super friendly. Only complaint is the margaritas only come in lime and taste premixed. But that's why there is beer.

The food was good the first time but the second time it didn't seem as impressive to me. They are very nice here and the sopapilla with ice cream is very tasty. They have a few unique options on their menu as well. I would like to see more mexican restaurants have better tasting chips and salsa verses the same bland options, including this one.

When I come back to Hendersonville for a visit, Ricardo's is on the short list of restaurants that I absolutely must dine in before returning home. Really good Mexican food. Ricardo has really always run an amazing restaurant as far back as I can remember (which was eating at the Las Palmas he managed when I was just a tot) and I've never had bad food, cold food, or poor service. While there's lots of standardized fare on the menu, try something like the carnitas or carne asada tacos with corn tortillas. You just can't beat Ricardo's food and service.

The food is always great. We have been eating here for 10 years. It is our go to Mexican restaurant. Rico Pollo is outstanding.

Very good food at an affordable price. More food than you can eat when served along with chips and salsa. Very good service in a small eating area now makes this our favorite Mexican restaurant.

When entering the establishment, I stunned by how clean and nice the new location is. I was very excited to be seated. I instead had to wait for the hostess to assist an applicant( everyone in foodservice knows you apply at restaurants between 2-3 pm not at 12 rush hour) upon being seated we were quickly given chips/salsa. Several waitresses, no attending us.. Several minutes later we were greeted and it a long time for her to get one thing of dip and two sodas.. Not impressed will not be going back the food was less than subpar..

Little gem in Hendersonville. Good Mexican fare at great prices. Always had great service. Try it for lunch!

Ricardo's has good food, quick service, and cheap prices. The server was overly talkative, which was funny at first but got a little old once we started eating. I had the burrito special, which came with freshly grated cheese on top that was super tasty. As Mark R. said, it is one of our friend's favorite places in Hendersonville, and for good reason!

This is now one of my favorite Mexican food places in Hendersonville! Chips and salsa are really good. Waitress and other staff were very attentive and friendly. We ordered the Rico Pollo, Mole Pollo, and Chimichanga. All were delicious! I had the Chimichanga and it was a little spicier than I expected, but I think the queso was what had the spice. Rice and beans were really good. Fairly small establishment in general, but definitely good food and good service!

The NEW LOCATION! My family and I have been eating Ricardo's for years and just today went to the new location and it was awful! First we walk in and we immediately see a table full of servers sitting rolling silverware and eating AT THE SAME TABLE! NASTY! then we are seated and while we were waiting on our drinks we immediately start to notice gnats or fruit fly type bugs flying! I told my husband I just wanted to leave because I do not go out to eat just to feel like I'm eating outside but he insisted after he killed one that they would be gone and we should stay. So we get our food and as I am eating about half way into my meal one landed in my sour cream! I had it! We asked a server to get a manager and she rolled her eyes then the manager (who looks, talks, and acts all of 17, stephanie) approaches the table and literally says "wow! We haven't had any complaints of bugs all day...hmm mm woowww" all as she is standing over us just starring down at my plate. When I realized she was in no hurry to fix the problem I put my napkin over my food and asked her to take it away. She then walks away and gets on her cell phone and several servers began to crowd around her. Then after 10 minutes the server walks back to our table and says she took $5 off do you need anything else with such an attitude all the while every sever in there was literally starring at us and shaking their heads making us feel as though we had done something wrong! We never asked for a discount or anything to be taken off the bill we just simply wanted to leave the disgusting establishment! It's amazing how a location and a change in attitude of the staff has completely changed our opinion of this place! Not only will we NEVER return to a Ricardo's but we will also advise everyone we know to do the same!

Best around.. I have eaten at Ricardo's since it opened. Their recent move to the new location has made the restaurant better. There is more room at the tables. The food is even better in my view because it is spicier. I have eaten almost everything on the menu, my favorites the Carnitas & the Chili Rellenos.

Wow! This place is hands down, no question the best Mexican restaurant in hendersonville. I know there are a lot of choices but seriously give this place a chance. Start with chips and cheese dip, you'll thank me later. If course the whole menu is great, but the real gem here is the tacos Mexicanos. The carnitas are tender and perfectly seasoned. Prices are very reasonable, and the staff is great. What more could you ask for?

I found Ricardo's to be similar to many Mexican restaurants in Middle Tennessee...just average. If you put a blind fold on you would not be able to tell the difference based on the food. The chips and salsa was good The cheese dip was ok The guacamole was not good. It was mixed with some sort of filler(I would guess mayonnaise) and didn't have much flavor. I had a cheese enchilada and chicken taco and they were both OK, nothing great here. All in all this is another average Mexican restaurant. If you are in this area and are craving Mexican food go to Casa Vieja.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
