I was ready to die for some fried fish yesterday and decided to check this place out. It was pretty busy but we were seated immediately. Mister and I decided on the fried pickled green tomatoes as an app. As a lover of the FGT, I was giving a side-eye to a pickled one. Surprisingly, they were delish. I saved the side-eye for Mister who was scooping and eating those little pieces of tomato faster than I could get to them! Hubby ordered the Catfish platter with fries and I ordered, the name eludes me, the shrimp, catfish and crawfish platter sans the crawfish. I opted for an additional side and received the Cajun cabbage with my, and you better know it, sweet potato fries. Everything was perfectly fried. The Cajun cabbage was good also. There were a lot of shrimp. We couldn't eat it all and bagged up our individual boxes to go. I did say we were stuffed, right? It didn't stop us from ordering two slices of cake to go. We ordered the carrot cake and the banana cake. Both cakes were delish. The banana was 3 layer dense but moist cake. The carrot cake was a 2 layer delight. Service was fast and great. My tea was consistently refilled. It was really good tea and that may explain why we were so full.

I went here one evening for dinner and ordered friend pickles and a grilled shrimp basket. The food was delicious. The fried pickles were cooked well and had crispy breading. I was truly surprised at how good the shrimp were. I would bet that they are fresh, not frozen. I took one star off for the atmosphere and service. The seating is just ok - we sat in the main seating area it's a corral of tables. The food served in baskets and styrofoam plates, which makes your food seem less exciting and cheap. Our server checked on us and refilled our waters but I didn't feel like they were concerned with making our dining experience better or memorable.

I cam here with some friends and my wife and newborn son. They had arctic char on special, which I ordered blackened and it was delicious. Their po' boys are good, and the service is acceptable. For what you pay, this place is a bargain!

I visited Soul Fish this past Sunday and what a treat it was. The service was excellent. The place was packed however we were seated in less than 15 minutes. Even more important, they were showing the NCAA basketball tournament so I didn't miss one second of the Wichita state vs Kentucky game. :) The food was absolutely delicious. I practically ate off of everyone's plate at my table so I had a great sample of just how good their food was overall. I had the soul fish platter which came with fried catfish, fried shrimp, fried crawfish, and my choice of side was the macaroni and cheese. Others had the blackened catfish, the baked sweet potato, and the appetizer hot wings. Everything I tasted was phenomenal. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for friend southern fish.

Love this place. Very good fried shrimp and fish. Also like the fried crawfish po-boy. The food is consistently good and the service is great. I recommend this place to others. I had a chance to go to the original location in mid-town and the food was just as good. Always a good place to go for some good Southern dishes.

Just move from south florida and used to a good fish! This place was very disappointment , Just cat fish!! Service was great but very poor menu! Sorry but first and last!

Food was just as good as the Cooper Young location. Some of the best fried catfish in Memphis. Love the veggie selections.

We love this place. Casual, laid-back. Catfish is delicious - light and crispy. Tonight was my first time to try the shrimp basket and it was yummy. Same light, crispy batter and I really like the cucumber salad. We got fried dill pickles for an appetizer - I ate way too many of them, but could not stop - thinly sliced and crispy. Yum. Love this place for an easy, casual, come-as-you-are dinner and great southern down-home food. The service is friendly and efficient.

I was here a couple of days ago. I will say the restaurant was nice, we received excellent customer service, but the food was.....meh. The catfish was nice, but I think the batter was a turn off. I love cornmeal batter, but this was just so underwhelming to me. I also had the mac and cheese, which was good, but overall the food just didn't wow me.

The fried catfish was very good! I got the four piece basket and it was a whole lot of food. French fries were so-so. I had the collard greens, again, so-so. Come here for the catfish! It is good. Lot's of beer and wine selections. Friendly wait staff, eager to please. We'll come back.

Color me impressed. Maybe it was the jaded New Yorker in me that thought "there's no way a generic looking place in a little strip mall could possibly be any good" but that's what went through my mind when I walked in. However the food totally took my by surprise. It was really good, and plentiful. I ordered the blackened catfish tacos, and they were really good. The fish was nicely cooked, the salsa packed a bit of a kick, and the guac was chunky. Yum! The waitress said that the mac and cheese was their most popular side. It tasted merely average, though nothing was wrong with it. The hush puppies were crunchy on the outside, and moist in the middle. Both the sweet potato and normal fries were good, and I liked the cajun cabbage salad a lot. Don't judge a book by its cover is the lesson here I suppose. Because I'd totally go for some Soul Fish in the future.

Nice restaurant for a mid-priced chain. Food was well prepared and seasoned. Serving portions were good for the money. Nice selection of food. Service was good.

My husband and I love this place! He always gets the catfish and fries and raves about them. I on the other hand, do mot consider catfish as a real fish. Everything I've eaten has been well cooked well seasoned and delicious. Mac and cheese, yum. Green beans have just a hint of jalapeño, which make them special. You can't go wrong with the skillet cheeseburger, shrimp po boy, Cuban sandwich, fresh fish selection and they even have huge salads that are way to big to eat. I'm not a fan of their tarter sauce, or the pickled fried green tomatoes. But enjoy everything else I've eaten. They also have a large selection of yummy desserts. The waitstaff is always friendly and the service is always fast.

Score! This place is awesome! Good catfish is a treat to find and Soul Fish is a treat indeed. Been twice and hit the jackpot both times with good food combined with great service. Home run. The only reason that I did not give it five stars was the straight back chairs. A bit more padding would have enticed us to linger a bit longer.

Love this place! It's great! My personal favorite are the hot wings appetizer. It's filling and their wing sauce is AMAZING! I want the recipe so bad! I always get the hot, but everything I've tried at this place is great. I highly recommend!

Stopped in for a late lunch before flying out of town. Had read good reviews on Yelp and thought it might be exactly what I was looking for. It was. Blackened Salmon, with collard greens and a large salad. Done well, very reasonably priced and delicious. Pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend for a quick, tasty meal.

We had dinner there last night and enjoyed it. I had their seafood combo with fried crawfish, shrimp, and catfish. It was very good and even though everything was fried it wasn't to heavy. My husband had a Memphis po-boy and it was very tasty.

Blacken PoBoy catfish was great. I had mine with pickled green tomatoes, my daughter had hers sweet potato fries both were good. I would come at lunch and bring the kids.

We tried Soul Fish for one reason...the pickled green tomatoes. I'm from Texas, where it's quite common to see green tomato relish served alongside catfish. Not so much in Memphis. We had the three piece dinners and barely managed to eat it all. Should have stopped before finishing it, really. But, it's so good! And the pickled green tomatoes were perfect! The fries were hot and crispy. And the hushpuppies! Perfect! Crisp on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. Bring 'em on! Service was spot on. Our sizzling hot fish was served VERY quickly, and the tea refills just kept coming. We've found "our" catfish spot for sure!

We have eaten here several times and it is usually pretty good. . . great fish tacos. Ordered takeout last night (09/25/2011). Check number 4817, two 4 piece catfish baskets. Online menu cited $12.25 each. The check ended up being $31.50 or $15.75 each plus tax. That is a big upcharge. When I asked the cashier about this she replied; "the prices were raised last week" To top it off, the french fries were old and stale, the hushpuppies we over cooked. I hope high prices and stale food aren't the new norm.

This place is good! I had been to the midtown location before I even knew about the Germantown location, and fell in love with Soul Fish there. I'm happy to say that the Germantown location is just as good as the other. Good fries, great hush puppies, AMAZING catfish. I had the catfish po'boy before, which was great, although I was sad that I didn't get to try the crawfish po'boy that was a special. Well I got to try it in Germantown. Don't get me wrong, it was really good, but I think I prefer their standard catfish po'boy. I've heard the fish tacos, catfish plate, and sweet potatoes fries are all good too. This location is bigger than the other, which is good because it gets busy. It was packed the wednesday night that I went, but I still got seated pretty quickly.

Best place to eat in Germantown. Great service & great food every time. Everything on the menu is fabulous! My favorite is a toss-up between the Cuban sandwich or the catfish platter. Nobody's catfish can touch theirs. Every now & then, as luck has it, the special is a smoked pork chop that is delicious. Can't go wrong with the desserts either. The home-made lemon pie is the best. If you try Soul Fish, you will be hooked.

fantastic spot! we rolled into town in the afternoon & sought this out after reading the reviews. very unassuming looking - tiny, grey, plain looking building. but it was packed at lunch time with a line running out the door. we were still seated in about 5 minutes, attended to promptly by a very cheery floor manager, and immediately greeted by a friendly server. our table had 2 catfish baskets (small is plenty! 3 decent sized fillets) and a crawfish po'boy, all of which were lightly breaded, crisp, and fried to golden brown perfection. for sides, we swapped out the cole slaw for pickled green tomatoes (PERFECT with catfish & fries!), cucumber salad, and broccoli. husband loved the green pepper & corn bits in the hushpuppies and scarfed all 3, though i found them a little overdone. our server guessed from our questions about the cajun cabbage that we might be avoiding meats and she listed for us all the vegetarian sides. very much appreciated in southern states where meat lurks in the unlikeliest (to this foreigner) places. wonderful food and wonderful service. they deserve every bit of their reputation.

Somehow I was expecting more. I had the Soul Fish platter, which had 1 strip of catfish, a few shrimp, and crawdaddies. It also comes with hugh puppies and a side (I got cucumber salad; it reminds me of my mother). The food was good, and so were the prices and portions. Overall, it was a good meal. However, my friend said his chicken was very dry. Another friend ordered the pickled fried green tomatoes. She wasn't sure about them, and asked for a recommendation. A better idea is to ask for a taste; she didn't like them at all (I loved them). Service was very fast and polite. Overall I would recommend Soul Fish.

This was our first time but not our last. The location is the former Bola Pasta on Poplar past Forest Hill Irene. The decor features lots of pictures of fishing as well as trophy fish. The staff were very attentive and polite. My wife and I both ordered the Soul Fish Combo which featured Fried Catfish, Shrimp, and Crawfish with a hush puppy and a vegetable. The kids both ordered the Kids Catfish. The food was delicious. The Sweet Tea was fantastic. I just regret that we didn't save room for dessert.

Just went to Soul Fish Cafe for lunch, and it was pretty great. I had their hush puppies as an appetizer, and really enjoyed them. They're made with corn inside, which I love. For my main course, I went with the catfish po boy sandwich, sweet potato fries, and macaroni-I was hungry! The sandwich was good, not too big, but not too small. The fries were tasty and the Mac and cheese was just gooey enough. For dessert, I went with the strawberry cake, and it didn't disappoint. It was a large portion, moist, and tasty. I highly recommend this place!

Their blacken chicken po boy is my favorite thing..I an not a huge seafood fan but I will still go here just for this sandwich I love it! Great location and the staff is very helpfully we always get great service. If stopping in for lunch like I usually am get here about 11:30 am this place gets packed during the lunch hour.

This location leaves a bit to be desired compared to the midtown and east memphis locations. They burn the hush puppies pretty consistently. The catfish is murky tasting and fishy more than not. The veggies are always pretty good but for what you are paying to eat here...not worth the cost. Honestly, make the drive to east memphis if you are in the mood for Soul fish. It is well worth the 15min drive up poplar for better food.

My wife was craving some back home catfish. She enjoyed it, said it was very good with a perfect amount of breading. I had the veggie tacos that fell short of my expectations of tacos, because it is not hard to make a good veggie taco. The quac was mah, and the salsa picante straight out of the jar was nothing special. We also got a app of hush puppies, which were really good, with lil chunks of jalapenos they hit the spot. The side of fried okra I got was very fresh and made up for the my disliking of the tacos. It seems like everything fried was good, but isn't that always the case? Hard for a place named Soul Fish to screw up fired foods. I'll give it another shot since the wife seemed to enjoy her meal.

I think Soul Fish is OK. They usually have a good local beer selection and there are good vegetarian options I just don't have a go to order there. There are yummy fried things that I try to avoid. There are vegetarian sides that usually don't sound good for Saturday night. There are veggie tacos, but it is a larger portion that comes with a side. I ended up with a house salad and ate the guacamole that came with my husbands salad. The house salad is large, but pretty boring. I think they should offer the guacamole with chips and pico. They already offer it so they should make it an app. The atmosphere to me is more Sunday lunch than Saturday night. Just not my favorite place.

Been here many times as it is close to where I work. Staff is very friendly and the food is pretty good. Appetizers get the fried pickles. For the meal the Cuban sandwich is a great choice. Fried catfish and grilled chicken tacos are also pretty good. If you like blackened chicken ask for the southwest chicken entree (not the salad) as it is not on the menu. This comes with cheese and black beens and topped off with a really well done pico de gallo.

Gave this place another shot after having a positively average experience about a year ago. Dined during the Sunday post-lunch rush and both the service and the food was wayyyy better. I had the blackened catfish tacos w/ sweet potato fries. Generous portion size an. I wish they'd serve them with some sort of remoulade sauce instead of guac and salsa. My parents both had the catfish baskets which they thoroughly enjoyed. Waitress, Melissa, was very pleasant and made sure we had everything we needed. d the fish was well-seasoned

I enjoyed the fish selections. The seasoning was good. Hush puppy's were cooked well. However, for the price, I have eaten on Beale Street for a lot cheaper and received more food. Atmosphere was good and not a long wait for a table. Service was good. I will go back again.

I really like this place. But my entre arrived within 60 seconds of my appetizer. Both were fried and it was clear they did not fry the food for me. It had been prepared Lord knows how long before I arrived. Fried okra was cold and hush puppies were like someone else's left overs. I was by my self on a cold rainy night. But I do not think that is a good reason to serve leftovers. Last time I was here was different. I was with a group and it was a busier night. Food was excellent and freshly prepared.

Came by at the recommendation of friends. I enjoyed the quality of the food, service was great, atmosphere matched the fare. I am holding off on giving a 5 star rating until I do another visit and try the dessert and the blackened options. I can see this place being a resto I could rely on as being consistent.

I like Soul Fish Cafe... I like the name and I like their food. I have eaten here many times in Germantown and in Midtown...always good. They are known for fried catfish and they know what they are doing. I grew up in the Delta, from Yazoo City, MS, surrounded by catfish farms, so this wasn't my first rodeo. I know what good catfish is supposed to taste like and this is it. The batter they use is seasoned very well and the catfish was not overly greasy after being fried. Also the portions are huge, so unless you want to leave a lot of food on the plate get the two piece basket. Other notable items are below... 1. Chicken Wings....yes I said chicken wings from a catfish joint. They smoke their wings before dipping which is delicious and different 2. Fish tacos...very good 3. Side items... Baked sweet potato or Cajun Cabbage 4. Hushpuppies are awesome! Service is always great and beer is always cold!

We usually like Soul Fish but sadly will not be back. My wife had a specific salad she liked, but substituted a different fish. She has done it many time and it has never been an issue. Tonight we were informed they no longer allow any substitutions because it is too difficult for them. That is really odd and I don't think I have ever been to a similar place that would not allow this. We spoke to the manger and she told us this was an owner decision and there was nothing she could do. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else. I see there are other reviewers who have had a similar experience. Seems like you may want to adjust your procedures rather than disappoint guests.

Great waitstaff! I always get the fried catfish with whatever side dish interests me. I've never been disappointed with the fish. Try it! As far as sides go the Cajun cabbage with smoked sausage is a must. The coleslaw is fresh and delish. The Mac n cheese quite nice. Skip the okra, the breading was kinda funky. Though I'm always too full for dessert the homemade cake assortment, 7 kinds, is worth a try if you can manage it. They have Yazoo, ghost river and High Cotton all on tap!

Get the fried pickles appetizer. They serve local beers on draft and have ample seating. I went there for a family reunion and we had great service and delicious fried fish!

Soul Fish Cafe managed to produce the best crawfish and blackened catfish po'boys I've eaten north of New Orleans. The blackened catfish in particular was perfectly cooked and seasoned--enough seasoning to draw out the mild bite of the catfish without overpowering the fish. Surprisingly, the bread--a bit chewier and thinner than typical for po'boys--was a standout as well. The cucumbers and the green tomatoes complemented the po'boys perfectly, providing tanginess that cleansed the palate between bites. One point of potential improvement: the sweet potato fries and fried crawfish were slightly overfried. When eating the larger pieces, this was not noticeable, but the smaller fragments had a bit of a burnt taste to them.

I get the rare craving for some salty cornmeal dusty fish. Sides are decent as well. I've never been to the midtown location. I would assume its quite similar. Good thing about this location is that there is plenty of parking, and appears to be a bigger venue. Bar area is small, good for 8 people. Flat screens around to watch the game. Also has a nice patio if the weather is good. Overall, a local Memphis foodie staple in Collierville, a solid 3 stars.

This is a pretty decent restaurant! The food is good (great po boy!), it's always brought out quickly, and the servers are knowledgable. I decided on 4 stars because I swear, every. single. time. I go here, there's a squalling child. Every time. I know that it's not the restaurant's fault, but it kind of kills the ambiance. Yes, it's a family place, but jeezus, those kids...

I've been to a lot of different high end fish places, and their blackened salmon scores in the top five percent. Very reasonably priced and great service from my waitress. I'll be returning soon to start running down the menu to try everything.

If you aren't into seafood, but you are with people that are this is the place to go. They have a really great cuban sandwich and my friends have said that the seafood is also really good.

The service was very fast. The veggies are numerous and delicious. Tried the catfish filets. They were good. Tried a bite of the catfish burrito. Also good. The kid got a good looking burger and pronounced it to be good as well. I could come here for just a veggie plate.

The Good: they serve quality American raised catfish. The batter is pretty tasty (maybe a little salty). They also have a huge variety of vegetable side dishes The Bad: Waaay overpriced. I'd like to consider myself a catfish connoisseur. In my opinion, all of the items are about $2 overpriced. The catfish is good, but not good enough for that price. I just don't understand the hype about this place-- there are meat-and-three restaurants around the city that have better catfish. Also, the french fries and hushpuppies are not that great.

Man, this is a tough one. I am a fan of Soul Fish and have tried to support the Germantown location, but ran into a rather strange management decision on our last trip. They have a really good salad on the menu called the Southwest Salad. It includes mixed greens, black beans, corn, cheese, pico de gallo, and guacamole, with chipolte (sic) ranch dressing. It comes with blackened chicken, but I prefer blackened catfish and have gotten it with catfish before. Apparently that is no longer an option. Our server informed us that management had decided to not allow the substitution any longer since it created "too many issues for the kitchen". This seems incredibly strange given that catfish is a staple of the Soul Fish menu and they allow patrons to choose between chicken, catfish or salmon for another of their salads, the Caesar. If the decision was based on expense, why not just offer the substitution for an up charge? At any rate, the food and beer selection at Soul Fish is typically very good, albeit pricey. Unfortunately, these type of strange management decisions may be an inhibitor to return trips. That and the default 18% tip they auto-added to our party of 5 adults and 5 kids.

Great place for lunch or dinner. My favorite is the catfish basket. Great batter on the fish, hush puppies are perfect, and the fries taste homemade (don't know for sure, but they taste that way). Along with good service, you just can't beat it.

Went to Soul Fish Cafe for 1st time last night- was a party of 12 for a birthday celebration- took awhile to get seated 25 minutes even with reservations but, was worth the wait. Waitress was nice, we even shared some B-Day cake w/her. I ordered blackened catfish & broccoli- fish has a generous amount of seasoning, which I like but may be a little much for those who have intolerance to a lot of seasoning. The broccoli was broccoli, nothing fancy- boiled w/shredded parmesan. My guy had fried catfish cajun cabbage & mac-n-cheese. The cajun cabbage had red & green peppers in it with sliced polka kielbasa w/a vinegar ??? taste- had a spicy kick. I wasn't a fan of it- friend liked it. Mac-n-cheese was pretty good- it's not soupy, more of a stick together kind. Others had veggie plates, fried shrimp and smoked pork chop, that they bragged about. The place was jammed pack so, which kinda alludes to something's good in there- I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Happy and peppy waitstaff. Always a great booth.... And the patio seating will be nice once it warms up. We have been here a few times.... Everything is always consistently good. Faves include the memphis BBQ, crawfish and oyster PO boy sandwiches. Love love love the sweet potato fries, green tomatoes and Mac and cheese as sides. My only complaint is that recently they had no IPA or dark beers in the fall.... :(

Stopped in for a late lunch before flying out of town. Had read good reviews on Yelp and thought it might be exactly what I was looking for. It was. We had dinner there last night and enjoyed it. I had their seafood combo with fried crawfish, shrimp, and catfish. It was very good and even though everything was fried it wasn't to heavy. My husband had a Memphis po-boy and it was very tasty.

I am a huge Soul Fish fan I really do love this location and the one by my house in East Memphis. Their blacken chicken po boy is my favorite thing..I an not a huge seafood fan but I will still go here just for this sandwich I love it!

Not bad. I had the fried crawfish tacos, which were quite tasty. My companion got the shrimp basket. The hushpuppies that came with it were very oily. Service was fast and friendly.

Fun place with good food. Catfish is very good and the other fish is too. Macoroni and cheese is a little different and very good. Hushpuppies are good also.
