Great family owned restaurant. Service very friendly. As soon as my glass was almost empty, the waitress kept it filled. Always asking how things are, and very well kept place. I had the classic Gyro, and it was delicious! I will be coming back. Soon! I would of gave five stars, but did not expect to pay a dollar for a little cup more of cucumber sauce. Plus free Wi-Fi.

The Greek salad was great!!! Nice little lunch spot. They offer a discount if you pay with cash. Did I say their Greek salad was amazing? The dressing seemed fresh and homemade

OMG!!! I finally found my deli!!!!!!!!! Let me say this. I've been spoiled by delis in South Florida that serve the meanest sandwiches this side of the Mason-Dixon Line. Petra Cafe is my new FAVORITE sandwich place!!! Their East West sandwich is DA BOMB! It has corned beef, roast beef and pastrami on ciabatta bread that's been run through a panini press. And it's HUGE! And you MUST try their hummus with soft, warm pita. It's only $1 for more pita if you run out and its AWESOME! Is your mouth watering yet?

Ordered there through Chef shuttle cause my fav wasn't open that weekend (cafe med) and it was very disappointing. I had wanted to try this place for a long time, heard good things. Spicy feta dip a bust. Check out my pics they speak for themselves.

Today was my first time to visit Petra Cafe. I went with a co-worker and they suggested the special--classic gyro and Greek salad. Both were fantastic! The cucumber dressing on the gyro was YUMMY! I am so glad that I finally tried Petra and will definitely go back soon.

This was our first visit to this restaurant and it was a Friday at 6pm. The restaurant wasn't busy, but started getting busier around 6:45. Our party ordered the tabbouleh, hummus, falafel, chicken souvlaki kabobs and gyro (beef/lamb) entree with Greek salad. Without going into detail each item, the food was good. I especially like the tabouli, the falafel and the gyro and would certainly recommend those items. A special surprise was their warm mint tea, which we were given at the end of the meal. This was very tasty! The owner was very pleasant and we enjoyed meeting and talking with her. Since that first visit, we have been back again and the food was consistent and was as tasty as the first visit.

Eating at castle yesterday only makes me crave this more. I love this place. The atmosphere is so happy. I love the Bocelli music and friendly faces. I stick to my Greek norms: gyro, hummus and spanakopita. If it ain't broke don't fix it, right? The food is always on point.

Man I love this place! Best gyro in town, hands down. Big generous portion and always hot. Hummus is delicious as well, and the staff is laid back and friendly. Definitely not the place to go if you want atmosphere, but this is my go to lunch spot! Love it!

Clearly I'm the one with the issue because the place was packed at lunch. I ordered a Greek salad with gyro meat. I had already heard the table next to me ask for salad dressing. Sure enough mine comes without any dressing as well. Then I have to flag down the server. She brings out a 1 ounce plastic cup with olive oil and lots of dried herbs at the bottom. Needless to say the herbs stick to the plastic. So my dressing was olive oil salt and pepper. I wanted Dolmas...they have them...they were a bit tough but tasty....however they're not on the menu. I asked for lemon for my tea and it took longer to get the lemon than it did to get my food. Again I guess it's just my standards but these things are just basic restaurant details. Also, no pita with the salad. I've never been to a Greek place where the pitas didn't flow freely. I gave it three stars because the gyro meat was tender and delicious. Sissy was very nice and the place is clean. They just need a knowledgable manager/owner.

Was on my way to Swanky's, but wanted to try something new! The service was meh. I got a corned brisket Reuben, which had too much Russian sauce. The sandwiches do NOT come with a side which bothers me because the sandwiches are 9 and 10 dollars! I got the toulofel (pardon my spelling) salad, and while pretty good, it'd be good on something. $5. My mom got a gyro salad, and the gyro meat was processed and looked like bread crust and left a lot to be desired. Overall: average service, average food, expensive.

Best place to get very authentic Greek/Mediterranean food. The chef cooks everything fresh and she really has a passion for food. I ordered the stuffed portobello mushrooms and they were amazing. My friend order the braised lamb shank which was divine. Please visit this restaurant; you will NOT be disappointed.

Went for Baklava and it was extremely disappointing. Made of cheap corn syrup and one layer of nuts. Then the bill was a shock as well. over $5 for the cheapest made, so so Baklava I have ever tasted.

Wifey and I stopped in for lunch. I had the Chicken Cassoulet Soup and a Classic Gyro. Both were very good. Best Gyro I've had in a long time. You get a lot of Gyro. I'm a bit confused by the atmosphere. Is it a deli, a sandwich shop or a bistro? Maybe all of the above. Nonetheless, I'm a new fan.

I ate here with a friend of mine one fine day. It was so nice we decided to eat outside to take in the great sights of day. We were greeted and seated quickly. Both of us were pretty hungry and since it took a little while for our server to come back we already knew the drinks along with our lunch order. We both had beers and I ordered the gyro with chips and he ordered a panini with chips. My order came out after about ten minutes. I sat for about five minutes in order to be respectful and wait for my friends order to come out, but I was dying. The gyro looked so delicious and I was so hungry. After another five minutes he goes inside to inquire of the missing order which was inconveniently misplaced. The lady apologized profusely and explained that she was the chef and the server for the day due to other employees calling out. I understand that and cannot discount too much but forgetting an order is a pretty big blow. Otherwise my gyro was pretty good, the cucumber sauce was different than any I have eaten previously. I really did not care for it, it was just too acidic. My buddy did say he would come back for another panini so it must be good. The chef/server did not charge him for his meal. All in all it was an ok experience, I am definitely willing to update this status once I try them again and they step it up a bit more.

The gyros here are fantastic -- huge, stuffed with meat, great cucumber sauce, soft pita bread. The only entree that has caused me to stray from the gyros is the muffaletta salad, which I also highly recommend if you're into salty meats masquerading as health food (which I am). I can't speak to the rest of the menu. This place is a regular in my lunch rotation.

We love Petra Cafe. We would go there more but at lunch time it can get very crowded. Service is always good and the food is excellent. We get the spciy Gyro and Greek Salad when we go. Dinner time is not as crowded but get there around 6:30 or 7pm. Because if they don't have any customers they will close early.

It's been at least 3 years since i had been to petra. I used to go there more often when i lived in germantown. Since then the restaurant got a bit of a face lift as far as decor goes. The service is always quick, efficient, and friendly--which is why I like going there for lunch now. Petra's gyros are more food than you could possibly need for lunch...but it's great value--especially considering you could still have plenty to take home for a mid-afternoon snack. I like the classic gyro with beef/lamb--and theirs is really good. I've also tried the chicken salad (The meat was juicy and tender--I wish I had gotten more of it) and the salad itself is made up of classic Mediterranean ingredients.

We've eaten here several times and food has been good, but what happened today is inexcusable. We arrived today, were seated, ordered drinks, etc. When the waitress came I ordered the gyros salad and was informed the gyros meat was not ready and would be 30 minutes if we wanted to wait. Anyone familiar with a Greek restaurant knows that gyro meat is a central aspect of more than half the menu. Not having gyros meat would be like the Germantown Commissary not having pork or Gus's not having chicken. Also, it's not as if we came in at 10:30 am or something, it was noon. If you don't have your main ingredient just close the doors or at least tell the people as soon as they walk in that the chef slept in this AM and half the menu is unavailable. We wasted time ordering drinks and felt obligated to pay for them before leaving.

Descent food, really slow service, fair prices. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but if you're in the mood for Medi food and you're in the area, it'll at least get the job done.

Went there mid afternoon and I think we were the only ones there. There might have been a couple more, but no where near us. We ordered the hummus and pita wedges to start, it was pretty awesome!! the pita was warm and the hummus was smooth and tasty! For our meal we had the classic gyro. Let me just say, they don't skimp on the meat!! The taziki was fresh and amazing!! We drank lemonade and never saw the bottom of the cup, it kept getting refilled!! We will definitely be returning for more flavors in the future!!

I have always liked this place. Neapolitan panini is great. Have not had a bad experience and had to stop in today since it's been a while for my last visit. I see some reviews that we're not so hot, but to me this is a great lunch spot. Plus a better health choice than McDonald's or Burger King.

I was really disappointed with my lunch here. I ordered the chicken gyro and found the sandwich to be greasy and chicken flavorless. The tatziki tasted more like ranch dressing than a fresh yogurt, cucumber, and mint dressing. The pita was unremarkable. The server was pleasant but it was unclear when I walked in whether I should order at the counter or sit and wait. No sign or person directed me. I hoped to find some good Middle Eastern food but did not enjoy the flavors enough to return.

i had lunch at petra with a friend today and it was not good enough to make it a destination in the future. if someone wanted to go there, i might, but it would not be my choice. the food was ok, but only ok. nothing about it stands out to me. i've thought this the other two times i've dined there in the past few years. for almost $10 (including tax) for just a sandwich - no garnish, no side, no chips, no drink - it should really be an amazing sandwich. but it wasn't. it was just ok. the decor is off. it's dark / gloomy inside. it's such a beautiful day today and it just felt really bleak inside the restaurant. also, as another reviewer here notes, the plates are glass, but all of the cups are styrofoam. it just doesn't make sense. and, again, as another reviewer here notes, it was unclear to us as to whether we should pay up front or wait at our table for our check. we finished eating and waited around for a few minutes for our check before walking up to the register. i'm still unclear on what we should have done. our server was neither friendly or unfriendly. my friend ordered water with no ice. i ordered water and specified that i was fine with ice. what we got was two styrofoam cups with water with no ice and a sad slice of lemon floating in them. the service wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't good. i felt like i was inconveniencing our server by being there - and that's not a good feeling. but the place was packed, so obviously they have some loyal patrons. to each his own, i suppose. i won't be going back.

Had never eaten there even though I go to Swanky's on the other end of the strip at least once a week. I got our meal to go and I found the prices to be on the high side. A single piece of average tasting moussaka served alone without garnish, bread or salad in a styrofoam container was $15. I also had the soup of the day- chicken cassoulet that was too salty to eat and a small portion for the price and also served alone without garnish or bread. The Spanakopita was soggy and the greek salad was nothing special. I'll stick to a salad from Swanky's!

Great new place for a foodie like me. If you read my past post, I Love a good sandwich for lunch, and this place did not disappoint. The Hummus is a must do with any meal. I had the Muffelotta Pennie and much to my surprise it was spot on! I've gotta go back soon to give the gyro a try now.

Meh, it was just ok. My daughter and I both had the gyro. Se liked it though. Could taste the hint of mint in the tatziki but I would much rather have Kwik Chek. The service was good and it was very busy at lunch.

I've had one lunch at Petra, but it was a huge and tasty gyro. It had a ton of meat. The place was at 90% capacity but not a bad wait for lunch takeout. I'm headed back to try the falafel this week.

My husband and I went here last week because we both miss Middle Eastern food, particularly during Ramadan. We found the place online and thought about trying it since we were in the neighborhood. The cafe was so cold inside (and to be honest not very inviting decor-wise) that we chose a table outside. We asked the waitress if there were any special dishes for s7oor (breaking the fast) and surprisingly there weren't. Maybe we expected too much because the owner is Syrian....anyhow. The waitress was extremely friendly though and made sure we had our food and drinks right the minute it was time to eat. The small sampler was good and the main sampler even better. My kabob and the grape leaves though were very disappointing, too dry, too blant. And you can imagine how bad that felt after the anticipation of food. What made me a little upset too was that I go out to be served better food than my daily home meals, but it really wasn't. The dessert cookie was all right...I wish though they would've had some Ramadan specials like konafa or katayef. C'mon, chef, embrace your roots! To sum up, the two stars are solely reserved for the friendly and attentive waitress (would give her five stars!) and the samplers. The rest really didn't impress. Don't think I'll be back.

I am not a huge fan of the fancy atmosphere and strip mall locale, but Petra's service and food are well worth five stars. The lamb was impeccable on top of a bed of fresh greens and vegetables. My company was equally impressed with their food. I believe the waiter when he says he has never received a complaint regarding the food. Petra does not sell alcohol but don't fret - take your own bottle; no corking fee. I will go back.

The best thing about this place is the eggplant dip. Gyros are ok... hummus is bland, and tabouleh is too sour.

Great place for Saturday night meal. There's always a table available, the food is great, and the service is prompt and very friendly. Salads are large and fresh, Gyros are overstuffed and filled with tasty tzatziki sauce. Highly recommended.

My wife and I were there Friday about 6:00. Not too crowded yet. Great service. We loved the sampler platter as well as our meals. I had the chicken Kabobs with rice, grilled bell pepper and onion. Dipping sauce was fabulous. We will definately go back. Drinks were serves in glasses. Dont know aboutthe styrofoam comment someone else made. Maybe the dish washer was out sick that day.

Good food (we had the cabbage rolls and stuffed grape leaves for dinner and then baklava for dessert), excellent service and very little wait time considering it was a Friday night. We will definitely be back.

Went here recently for lunch and liked it a lot. I had a Philly Cheesesteak which was really good. Menu for lunch is a selection of gyros, paninis and salads. Quick service and generous portions. Looking forward to going back for dinner (BYOB with no corkage fees).

actually, i think petra cafe deserves 3 1/2 stars but yelp doesn't allow you to give 1/2 stars. this petra cafe is the germantown location and the original petra cafe is in a collierville strip mall on poplar ave. The germantown Petra just opened around May of this year but seemed to be doing well based on the number of customers dining there. They had only had one server and he kept things under control. There was a slight wait for things but you didn't feel ignored or forgotten. Petra has a fairly large dinner menu. For an appetizer, we chose the cabbage rolls (stuffed with ground sirloin and rice and served with a tomato sauce). They were favorful and surprising light. For dinner, i chose a petra sampler (gyro meat, spanikopita, tzatziki sauce, feta cheese, calamata olives, and trio of syrian eggplant dip, hummus, and tabbouli served with pita bread) and a greek salad. The gyro meat was delicious. It was well seasoned and tender. The tzatziki sauce was excellent minty goodness. The only thing on my platter than i didn't eat was the syrian eggplant dip. It was more tomato based than i like and i couldn't taste the eggplant. other than that, it was very good. My dinner partner had a vegetarian lasagna with mushrooms, artichokes, and spinach and a caesar salad. The lasagna though not traditionally greek was very good. It was lighter than traditional lasagna with a wine flavored white cream sauce. All their portions are very large so come hungry. The only thing missing from the menu suprisingly was moussaka. The only other disappointment was the desserts. They offer baklava, coconut cake and carrot cake. Don't get the cakes--they tasted like they had been frozen and just defrosted. I wish they would have offered other traditional greek desserts like Galaktobouriko (egg custard in phyllo) or Kourambiethes (like the Greek version of a Mexican Wedding Cookie). We only went for dinner but they serve lunch also. Their takeout lunch menu is quite extensive. They list 44 different sandwiches not to mention salads. Petra also serves Boar's Head brand meats. Their lunch prices range from $5 to $8 on average. The dinner entrees range between $14 to $22 which is decent considering the large size of the portions and fact a salad is served witht the entree. I have never eaten at the Petra in Collierville but the Germantown location i would recommend. They do a great job of satisfying the cravings for Greek food I have.
