The gyros are great here. I can't speak to the rest if the menu. Lunch is reasonably priced but the dinner menu is expensive. I will only return at lunch because I don't think the dinner prices are justifiable.

Petra Cafe is a little Mediterranean restaurant located on Hickory Hill. The atmosphere is rather pleasant, yet rather plain. Still, it's great to have lunch at. They have a rather extensive list of food to choose from, including a handful of different Gyros. I ordered the Zesty Petra Gyro. It was pretty good. It had sauteed mushrooms, and grilled onions and peppers. The meat was rather soft, but pretty tasty. The pita bread was great. The price is rather high, though, because for the amount you pay, you only get the Gyro. In most other Mediterranean restaurants, you get not only the Gyro, but sides to go with it. The service was great. A nice place to try if you are around.

Lisa is amazing. So sweet and friendly. This food is absolutely awesome.. I "need it". The hummus is delicious- I like using it as a spread on any of the sandwiches or pitas. The Gyro meat is absolutely delicious and it's what makes the whole menu!! Mixed lamb and beef, carved to order. Outstanding flavors. I'm a big fan of the Zesty Gyro Panini with extra meat, and I add provolone cheese. I spread hummus on every bite. The chicken panini is equally excellent. Both are filling and I leave "full", and it's hard for me to get full.. The grape leaves are a wonderful appetizer, and the baclava is a delicious desert. I even enjoy the espresso here. Love love love it all! Keep it up.

Food is always delicious, but I'm docking on stars because of my most recent experience. I checked in on the Yelp app, and there was a $1 off coupon for your meal available. At the end of the meal, I showed the waitress my phone, and she said "That's not for us." I was confused and said, "but isn't this the Petra Café on Poplar?" and she responded, "Yes, but we are under new management, and there are no coupons." As if the rude tone she used wasn't bad enough, I overheard her badmouthing me to someone in the kitchen. All over a freakin' dollar on a 35-40 check my friends and I had accumulated... I love the food here, but some of the staff needs a lesson on graciousness.

The gyro itself was nice a roasted pita with shaved lamb nicely seasoned and fresh tomato and onion with a light cucumber sauce. I would have enjoyed some fresh parsley for bite and a lemon wedge for acid but overall it was tasty. Busy lunch crowd was encouraging. We arrived and presented our $1 off coupon from Yelp for checking in at this location. Our server played dumb then I showed it to her proving the location and she still didn't deduct it from our bill. It wasn't the amount that concerned me it was the principle. Don't offer coupons if you are unwilling to honor them. Other than that her service was attentive.

Lunch menu is good and fairly priced. The dinner menu is EXPENSIVE! overall I would say it is okay at best and the decor is plain and uninviting. yes the food is ok, but the place could use some help as far as service and decour....

Lisa was my server. ..fast and friendly. I ordered a gyro with light meat and sauce. Perfection if I must do so myself. Love love love!

The Greek Salad with grilled chicken is the best salad I have ever eaten. Ever. Comes with large chicken pieces, greek olives and large chunks of feta. I loved the oil dressing - very flavorful. I normally get the chicken panini and Greek pasta salad, which are also fantastic. I love the atmosphere and friendly staff.

Unimpressed. I had the original gyro thinking it would be as great as the reviews. Simply not the case. The gyro was simply meat, onions, and mushrooms. The portion size was small and not as described by other posts. Other places I have visited always dressed the gyro with an assortment of vegetables and provided a complementary side dish. The side dishes here were an additional $5 plus. Petra Cafe is missing on quantity and value. Quality is just medium. Personnel was very polite. Music & room temperature were good. The restaurant size was very small. The bread tasted like it had been microwaved, which probably explained the extra chewiness. The only positive comment was the gyro was served warm.

I feel like I shouldn't be rating this place, having only been once and even then being boring and having a club sandwich. The sandwich was good, I just wasn't too fond of the service. The other food I tasted was actually really good, but again, service hurts my opinion of places.

Great food and great prices. Very authentic! Made fresh! Portions sizes are huge and there is plenty to take home with you. In a great shopping area.

I have been meaning to stop in here for quite awhile and finally did it today for lunch. What a find! Extensive menu of all types of sandwiches, pitas, sandwiches on baguettes and panini's. They are deep in each of these, 20+ of each. I had a simple ham and cheese on a baguette. The garlic mayo was very good as was the lettuce and diced tomatoes tossed with a vinaigrette. Took a roast beef home to my wife and she raved about it. This will probably make the lunch rotation. I can't wait to try some of the other offerings. Salads look good as well.

This place was just awful. We ordered the veggie sandwich and falafel sandwich and I'm not sure I've ever had a more disgusting falafel sandwich. The falafels themselves were undercooked, lacked flavor and were dry on the inside. The sandwich as a whole was a far cry from a traditional falafel sandwich with none of the requisite spices and sauces. It tasted like something from Wal-Mart rather than a Mediterranean restaurant. Not to mention, this place is way too overpriced for the ambience and type of food, especially for Memphis. DO NOT GO HERE.

Gyro tasted bland. The wrap was not fresh. Pretty expensive and wait time was pretty long for a sanwich and side, heard a lot of good things about this restaurant but i wasnt impressed at all.

Expensive for takeout and the sandwiches had no flavor. Chicken panini was awful and the staff only cared about getting out at closing time. The chicken gyro was equally as bad. Both items took 20 minutes to prepare as the staff was busy closing down the rest. Stay away from this place , especially on Wed nights.

I have been visiting Petra Cafe for a while now and wow is it delicious! The gyros, paninis and salads are all delectable. The food is always fresh and seasoned well! I come from a Mediterranean background and this is the closest thing to my family's meals. The service here is great! It is rare to come across perfect customer service but Petra Cafe definitely offers that. The prices are very reasonable. If you pay with cash you get 10% back which i find awesome! If you are out shopping at Target and are looking for a fabulous eatery, Petra Cafe is the place to go!

Gyro was good but way overpriced. Total lunch bill for 2 Gyro, water, & tip was $21! No side items included. Just 2 sandwiches! The last third of each gyro had no sauce on it. Ask for more sauce which they charged $2. Young server was very nice

I have been to 2 of these (germantown and midtown) both on groupons. True you can't combine groupons but you should have read that prior to purchasing the vouchers. The staff is friendly and the food is good. The menu is really large and slightly over whelming. Especially considering there are really minor differences in most of the items. I would stay away from spinach on any sandwich, it never seems to be washed thoroughly and ultimately feels gritty in my teeth. Regardless, the food is tasty and filling. I would keep going back.

Bought 2 groupons for Petra Cafe $14 each. While being seated asked server about the groupon, she was very vague. During check out she informed me that of the one pon per visit. Still had to come out of my pocket, after buying the groupon online. Smh, scratching my head. What was the use? I could've paid all cash. Proceed with caution. The food was great! Worth the price. But the groupon thing. Idk.

I only walked into this place because they were offering a groupon deal where you got $20 worth of food for $10. All in all, it was not too bad. The gyro was so so, the hummus was bland, and the taboulleh was too sour. My favorite thing that I got was the eggplant dip, which I thought was great. I have gone back to get it a couple of times, and I do agree that it can be oily. I generally ask the lady getting it to drain off some of the oil. The restaurant itself is kind of depressing looking and the staff do not look too thrilled to be there either, although they are helpful and friendly when you are placing an order.

I love Greek/Med. As such, this place is decent. I love their gyro meat; Greek salad dressing is kind of bland. Eggplant appetizer is very good, spiced with cumin but a bit too oily.

Save your money. Portions were small, prices were too high, service was indifferent. Sign on door advertised 10% discount, but no discount given. Server said she forgot to ring up and it was too late. Never again!

Mediterranean is one of my fav cuisines but need to rethink it after eating at this Petra Cafe.I went because I bought a LivingSocial voucher - I ordered a falafel s/w and my friend ordered a chicken one.Mine tasted so bland and the lady serving us looked unhappy to be there. The sweet tea tasted like 2 cups of sugar in a glass of water.Very disappointed :(
