I love this place! It's right by my house and is never super packed. It's not a super gorgeous place (the location out East is the one for that) but they do have a cute fountain by the door. But it's clean, the food is good, the service is great, and that's all that really matters to me. Their sushi is yummy - I paid $11 for a three roll dinner! And it was so much food. Fifteen pieces of sushi, soup, and salad. I was so stuffed. They have other foods too for those who don't like sushi. There's stuff on the menu like tempura, they do hibachi, they even make their own ramen now. I hate ramen but if I could ever not get the sushi, I bet theirs would be good. I've always had a great experience with service. I always seem to get the same waitress and she remembers me and is incredibly friendly. The food always comes fast too. Almost too fast! I wish I had more time to eat my soup. Granted sushi isn't hot so it could wait, so that's my fault. ;)

Great place to watch the Grizzlies game. TVs everywhere, great food, great service! Also, they have new hours. They stay open til midnight every night. It's the newest hottest late night spot in Cordova!!!! Come check it out!

I will say, it was bad weather tonight, which made the atmosphere a whole lot empty. But I went to Sekisui with a friend. We ordered some sake. This was a 2 for 1 deal. So that is always nice. We had gyoza and edamame appetizers. Both were very good and worth the value. I ordered the Louisiana and Mardi Gras rolls as well as some tuna sashimi. The LA roll was great. Unfortunately the MG roll had some hard shell pieces in it. The waitress replaced the roll. But it still affected my tastes. Overall, the meal was $80 or so. I might return: take it or leave it is my thought.

Driving through and sick of road food. Like the hipster feel of the place. The menu looked very good. We ordered Sushi, Shumai, Goyza, a small Tiger Beef Rice Bowl and a Bowl of Ramen with Pork. Needless to say, we are very hungry! The service with our drinks and taking out food order was quick and friendly! The food came out quickly! Without going into details I will say the food was very good. The only thing that was not exceptional was the broth for the Ramen. It was good and soothing with a delicate level of flavors. I really love the more clear robust broth so the disappointment was mine alone. My wife loved it. The Tiger Beef was great! She says we need to remember this place for the next time we are driving through. We will be back.

This is almost the worse eating experience, I have ever had. The shrimp taste like it had been frozen and then placed in hot water and boiled without seasoning and we ordered hibachi. The chicken was dry and tough. The miso soup wasn't good either. This was my first and last time here.

Awesome service and amazing food! I was able to get ankimo(monkfish liver) which is not on the menu, then they gave us a "special" dessert, on the house. We had a great experience, and will always come back when we are going out for sushi. YUM!

Cheap lunch deals. You can get a 2 roll combo with soup & ginger salad for $10. Woohoo! I was there almost everyday! But here's the bummer, they're not open during lunch hours anymore :( you can Still get the deal during dinner hours from 5-7pm after that the combo deal is no more! They food are delish & cheap martins too!! Yeah I got you huh!

This is the best sushi place I've found in town so far. Good food, friendly staff and reasonably priced. Is the sushi Nobu quality? No but it's good and fairly priced. The other items on the menu are solid and tasty, not overly salty like is so common. Glad to have found them and glad they're so close.

If I had to pick my favorite soup in town (outside of the ones I cook in my kitchen), the tonkotsu ramen from Sekisui in Cordova would win hands down. This is by far the richest, most delicious, amazing soup of its kind that I've tasted outside of Tokyo (Oh wow, I can legitimately say "outside of Tokyo") The cream based broth is so savory; it definitely has that "I've been cooked for 2 days" flavor. It served with slices of roast pork, scallions and hard boiled egg. You can also get additional accoutrements like sweet corn and bean sprouts. The amount you get is massive, and it's quite easy to get two enormous meals from one serving. Sekisui Cordova has an entire menu of soups that are currently unavailable at any of the other Memphis locations, so take a trip out east. I promise this soup will blow your mind.

This is definitely the best sushi in the Cordova area. The wait staff is always very friendly and remembers my husband and I every time we dine there. I also often get to-go orders (which have never been incorrect). The red bird roll is my favorite, closely followed by the arctic roll and the Cordova roll. The fish is always fresh and melts in your mouth. The house salad is a perfect little appetizer while waiting on your sushi to be made.

I had been craving a ramen bowl. It was okay, but it came out warm instead of piping hot. That was a little disappointing. It was good otherwise. The sushi was good too. The service was good. The desserts left something to be desired. The "vanilla" ice cream tasted more like orange sorbet. I might go back for another ramen bowl, as it is the nearest place to me that has them, but that would be about it. Too many good places around to make this a favorite.

My boyfriend and I went to the Sekisui in Cordova a couple of weeks ago. The ambiance was great (not too loud), the service was great (our drink glasses were never low and she checked on us frequently), and of course the food was wonderful. I had a salad and two rolls. I definitely recommend this place.

I'm a regular to this yummy establishment. BUT sometimes the service is lacking. At one dinner, the waitress forgot my drink from the bar and the appetizer I had ordered. She just giggled and said she had forgotten to put in my order. Another night, it took literally 20-25 minutes to get our check and pay . Soft shell crab and sushi are outstanding! I will deal with the bleh service in order to make my belly happy.

We live close to this Sekisui, so my husband and I usually go here for sushi. The food is generally good. I am a Spicy Tuna fanatic, so the quality of this roll is my litmus test. They make a decent spicy tuna roll. I've had some nigiri, and I'd say you're better off elsewhere for that. This place is good for rolls. I echo all of the comments about the service and the atmosphere. The service is very inconsistent. We once had to wait almost an hour for our sushi to arrive. Whoever is running the place seems to try and change around the layout of the restaurant and it's never very impressive. I don't think there is even anything on the walls aside from tvs. If you're looking for a quick meal, I'd steer you somewhere else. But the sushi is good, and I've never had a bad food experience.

I'm not a believer in grading on the curve; but, a Memphis sushi restaurant shouldn't be graded as strictly as one in San Fran, LA, Seattle, or NYC. Wouldn't be fair. Regardless, FWIW, Japanese colleagues like to eat lunch here when they're in town. Sekisui offers traditional Japanese lunches, and it gets nods of approval from my colleagues. This visit, I went with #1 son, who's home from college. My son's favorite meal is salmon sashimi. We had some, and it was buttery, well-marbled and delicious. The presentation was artistic. He issues compliments sparingly, and was first to say it was really good. We also had salmon (sake) nigiri, Yellowtail (hamachi) sushi, and salmon skin, spicy tuna and spicy octopus rolls. This location does a nice job of spicy octopus. Not exactly sure why, but it always works for me. Our server was attentive and friendly, but got a little tied up with the drive-through window (yes, they have drive-through, which I've used before.) So that--plus some lackluster Hamachi--is why Sekisui Cordova gets 3 instead of 4 stars. Will try again soon and update. Ja Mata. (See you soon, loosely-translated)

Sekisui is the only "chain" Japanese restaurant in Memphis that I know of. To me, a "chain" establishment suggests that I should be able to have approximately the same level and quality of food at one location as another. Sekisui strays from this concept; this may be due to the fact that sushi can taste wildly different depending on who prepares it. Each location seems to have a completely different menu, and the quality varies widely. I have identified the best Sekisui (and best sushi restaurant overall in Memphis, including the over-hyped BlueFin) as the East location on Humphreys for quality, taste,and overall atmosphere. Sekisui Cordova, in my opinion, is the worst Sekisui I have tried so far. I hate reviewing sushi because it is such an arrogant, obnoxious, and self-important food. It carries the air of snobbery that is rivaled only by wine/cheese tasting. Saying you feel that one place is inferior to another carries with it a degree of narcissistic self-importance that is almost immediately conveyed to the reader which results in an instant disgust of the reviewer. This is opposed to the respectful objective analytical assessment that is achieved when reviewing other foods such as burgers or sandwiches. At the expense of sounding like a pompous ass and to help those who have a taste for sushi (btw I cannot claim to be a high class sushi critic), I will admit I did not like any of the sushi I tried at the Cordova location. I enjoy classic sushi because my grandmother would make it for me, and it was always consistently the best. I find that the simple preparation of nigiri provides a more valued experience indicative of the quality and skill of preparation than eating the fancy rolls smothered in sauce that conceals the actual skill of the chef -- and really if you just want to eat rice smothered in sauce than why go to a Japanese restaurant and eat sushi, just go to a Chinese buffet. That said, I judge all sushi to the benchmark my grandmother set. In terms of the freshness of the fish at Cordova, it left much to be desired. I went for lunch on a hot day,and it is possible this affected their fish, but it tasted as though it had not been stored properly and consequently had an unnatural freezer burn taste as though it had been washed out. The flavor still existed but it had been turned into something less from the sea and more metallic. The consistency of the fish was also unpleasant. It had a much chewier texture than fish should, an indication of poor storage/water damage/refreezing techniques. The rice was also not correctly prepared. It was chewy and dry. Rice should be slightly chewy but never dry. The rice was clearly not cooked under sufficient pressure with the proper amount of water. The sushi itself barely held together due to the preparation of the rice. Sushi rice is sticky; it is the nature of the Japanese short grain rice. To prepare the rice in such a way such that it is dry and chewy takes a degree of skill in incompetence -- sorry to be harsh but if I can make rice correctly, a Japanese restaurant chef should. The rice also had no flavor. Perhaps the vinegar used in the preparation was forgotten, but it was absolutely tasteless. All in all my food tasted both bland and metallic as though I were chewing on pennies. Incredibly disappointing. Food: 1/5 The restaurant looked as though it had been converted from a McDonald's or Wendy's, Not much more to say really. They have a fountain in the entrance, and the seats were comfortable. It appeared clean, but I did not stray further than my seat to investigate. There was almost no one in there when I went. It was at lunch, so that may have been the reason. I don't imagine this location to be the best for a group outing -- I would go to the Sekisui in Midtown for that purpose. No problems, but nothing exceptional either. Atmosphere: 3/5 The food was incredibly disappointing. I paid nearly $30 for my meal. Value is clearly not going to be very high. Value: 1/5 The service was good. I believe the waitress was the high point. She was helpful and happy;something I rarely see in wait staff. She brought our food promptly and came at the appropriate times to ask how things were going. Service: 3/5 Overall, Sekisui Cordova is disappointing from the chain. Sekisui in general is typically very good; unfortunately Sekisui Cordova seems to miss the mark. It is still in my opinion a little better than the food I had at BlueFin, but I have not been back to BlueFin in a while so I cannot be certain. If you are looking for a place to have sushi, I would recommend driving a little further and going to Sekisui East on Humphreys. You can thank me later.

I LOVE sushi. But was very disappointed. Decor doesnt even look like a sushi restaurant. It could easily be a diner. Sushi chef needs training. None of my fish had a nice uniform, smooth appearance. Which is clearly of poor quality. I had the nigiri lunch special and saved the salmon for last since it is my favorite. Thankfully it tasted great. But it was the ONLY piece worth eating. Nigiri fish should lay on the rice like a soft smooth silk sheet. And if you dont put the entire piece in your mouth, you should be able to bite it in half without using both hands to pull it from your teeth because of all the connective tissue. The spring rolls were far from anything special snd the squid steak was unimpressive. But I can say the clear soup was delightful since I was freezing and it was steamy hot. Waitress was very nice and helpful. Would not go back here again.

Honestly I wasn't expecting much when I was told that we were going to be eating sushi here based on the existing reviews. However sushi quality turned out to be really good! No different than the authentic sushi I'm used to. We went there on Monday after the Christmas Sunday. We sat at the sushi counter and ordered the following: Yellow Submarine roll Christmas roll ? roll (I forgot the name) Holly roll (Not on menu) - CA roll w/ torched scallop on top 3 x salmon nigiri 3 x mackerel nigiri 3 x yellowtail nigiri 2 x squid nigiri Yellow submarine roll was super spicy. I mean seriously flaming hot spicy to the point where I started hiccuping after I took a bite! All in all, all the rolls and nigiri we ordered were really good. But out of all the orders we placed, I have to say that the salmon nigiri was the best. Salmon was fresh and it just melted in my mouth. It wasn't fishy at all. When one of the waitress was taking the dishes away, she spilled soy sauce on me. She did apologize and took off $10 off the bill. I thought that was nice! The price is indeed expensive, but if you want to spurge for a good quality sushi, I recommend checking out Sekisui.

Sushi was alright. Sekisui in collierville had a better menu selection though. The service was HORRIBLE! I went on a Sunday night which you would think they would have a few more servers an kitchen people than during the week but they only had two servers and two people working the kitchen. The waiter couldnt tell me which items were on the early bird special (not all sushi is for early bird). I had to constantly ask to a refill for my drink. I have been to almost every sushi restaurant in Memphis and love sushi, but I definitely will not return to Sekisui Cordova.

This Sekisui seems to be my favorite if you are going for a more traditional taste. Unlike the other Sekisuis this one has a separate menu just for Ramen! My favorites are the sashimi, ramen and there special rolls of the day. This weeks special i tried was the BP Roll. Can't remember what was in it but it was delicious! Ask Minh the sushi chef and he'll know. Yellowtail Cheek (Hamachi Kama) is available also. Yummm!

It was equally good as the rest of the other Sekisuis. Not the best Japanese food you'll ever have, but a solid place to meet up, not have to wait, and have a solid, consistently good meal. I had great service. They accommodated odd specifications of my friends without problem, and it wasn't too expensive. I'll definitely go back if the opportunity presents itself.

A fan of Japanese cuisine will be totally in love with Seiksui. It is cozy and inviting and the service is great! Their ginger salad dressing is perfection. I love the tempura seafood and vegetables are perfectly seasoned. The service has always been great and we are always recognized and greeted right away. For a perfect meal, the Cordova location is a treat!

They've moved up the road and are next to Newk's. New location, same menu. And about that menu... the menu is absurdly formatted. It's actually humorous. About a thousand roll options, none of which really stand out. That's said, the fish isn't bad, and the new location is actually very well done. Gorgeous sushi bar, the first sushi conveyer in Memphis as far as I'm aware. The service is also nice. If they simplified and reorganized the menu, thus probably get another star... but for now they're just "ok."

I went to Sekisui Cordova last night with my daughter and I am here to confess: I have a sushi hangover. The Commercial Appeal newspaper has this daily deal coupon offer that I get in my in-box every morning. A few days ago Sekisui was offering $40 worth of sushi for $20. Cool huh? How often do you ever come across sushi coupons? So we went and took advantage of the discount and ended up eating waaaaay too much. I actually enjoyed what we had, with the exception of the Snow Roll. At $10, it was the most expensive roll we ordered, and not very tasty in my opinion. Ashley didn't care for it either. But other than that, we enjoyed everything else. It was a Monday night, so not crowded in the least and the service was just fine.

IMHO for a sushi place in Memphis based on the quality of the food this place deserves 4 stars. Luckily we had great service since our dinner guests know the managers. I can't speak for others experience. Excellent selection of sushi and saki. I would recommend staying away from the entrees. They read enticing but taste kinda blah. Make sure to ask about the daily special since it is hidden away on a board behind the bar.

I'm cutting Sekisui some slack and upgrading to 3 stars. On my last visit (prompted by a Groupon), the waitress was very nice and upon reviewing our order, guided me to an early bird special that ended up saving us a few dollars. She doted over my daughter (can never underestimate the power of that) and everything we had was delicious. We did a Rainbow roll, spicy tuna (for me), regular tuna (for my daughter) and the gyoza. My daughter is a gyoza aficianado and proclaimed these to be some of the best (next to mine, mind you). The sushi combo came with a house salad and clear soup. I'm not really big on the clear soup - it's just basically chicken bouillon with some scallions and mushrooms. I am a sucker for ginger dressing, though, and the house salad fit the bill on that end. I will go back, but it may take another enticing Groupon or similar coupon to steer me away from the sushi joint a mile away.

Went for lunch with family. We enjoy Sushi often. We felt portions were small while price was OK. Salad wasn't best we ever had but was a little below what we usual enjoy. Not best Sushi experience we have ever had would only give two stars. Disappointed and don't think I can get my family to go back.

As far as sushi goes, I've found this to be one of the best places in Memphis. There is rarely a crowd, which I like, service is about the same as you would get at any japanese restaurant. But the place is small and certainly fits into my requirement as "a clean, well lit place". And of course there is sake, which usually makes me biased.

I dont like giving bad reviews, but we did not like this place at all. We ordered: A salad - we did Not like the dressing on there. Was not the standard ginger dressing. Miso soup - ehhh, bland. Shrimp shumai - the steamed shrimp shumai was good, the same kind that I get from the freezer section of my local Asian grocery store. It did not have the regular sweet soy dipping sauce, instead it came with yellow chinese hot mustard...ewww. Where's my sweet soy sauce. Shrimp and chicken hibachi - the veggies were decent but thats about it. The shrimp were watery and bland tasting like they were soaked in water or freezer burned or something. The chicken was dry. The fried rice was mushy. The server was nice, though. She took the entrees off the order and they asked us if we wanted something else, maybe the teriyaki chicken, saying that may not be as dry. Umm thanks, but no thanks. We were going to order dessert, but after the meal we decided to end it before bad went to worse. The sushi looked good on the menu but sorry sekisui, i dont think i will be back to try it. ;I will stick with my absolute favorite, Sakura.
