The first impression was very rushed service. Thursday night around 6 PM and an almost empty restaurant...one person at the sushi bar...about four booths to the right occupied and all four Hibachi tables stood dark and empty. We were greeted and asked if we wanted the sushi bar or the booth area. We inquired about the Hibachi table and we were presented with a menu and told, "you must say which two entrees you are ordering before I can seat you there, it just isn't worth us heating up the table unless you will order one of these items." We decided on their chef special for two and they agreed to seat us there. Immediately she took our drink order and brought out our soup and salad and turned on the table. No time to sit at the table and chat while browsing the menu...no slow dining one course at a time...there was no one else waiting...why such a rushed dinner atmosphere? The cook came and began to twirl his spatula and bang the fork on the grill. There were a few standard Hibachi show, throwing broccoli (instead of shrimp tails), the flaming onion volcano, etc. The fried rice was tasty, but contained frozen corn...a first. All three meats were good cuts and prepared well. The shrimp were large and juicy, not overcooked or rubbery with a good clean flavor. The chicken was served w teriyaki sauce and cut in smaller than usual Hibachi size, to cook quickly, again cooked well. The steak was very tender and flavorful, cooked to a nice med rare. The veggies were zucchini, brocolli, mushrooms, carrots and onions, also cooked well and nicely flavored. They did not do any shrimp appetizer, which is fairly standard at many Hibachi restaurants. There were no grilled beansprouts, which are also often standard fare as a last course. If they offer dessert, it was never offered. The place was very clean, the food was good quality and flavorful. The cook was friendly and did a good job with his showy food prep. The quantity of food was plentiful. We took as much to go as we ate for dinner. The value was great with dinner for two under $30. I just wish the experience had been a more relaxed dining atmosphere.

The food was fresh and quite authentic. Service was prompt and polite. Try the noodles in broth, delicious! We will be back! Best sushi in Cookevile.

Excellent food and service. It's a real bargain for what your get. Fresh food cooked especially for you, Sushi Bar, Crab Legs and fresh Buffet to satisfy any picky eater and foodie. Fresh fruit or ice cream for dessert was the perfect ending.

I really enjoyed the show at the hibachi grill. I am not a big sushi eater but what I did see or the little I tried did seem really fresh. The ginger was authentic not that water downed version you get at a lot of places. I do love hibachi and that is what called me in. I would definitely go again.

Beggars can't be choosers, and when you are in a small college town deep in the south, if you want sushi, Fuji will be one of your limited choices. They did the best they can. The facility is nice and spacious. The decor, authentic. The wasabi and ginger tasted like wasabi and ginger should. The pieces of sushi were a bit small but the number of pieces was standard. Next time I will try the hibachi.

There are a few people that are saying Fuji's pricey. I am used to Canadian Sushi prices so this review takes that into account.. Charlie was their old hibachi chef and he was so good at what he did, and he was a blast to be around. The new one is good enough (so sweet and the food tasted awesome) But when he's in the process of the artistic cooking (which is so clearly the appropriate term... shut up) ... you kind of feel a little like a 10 year old is showing you their art and you just kind of have to smile and pretend they're better than a 10 year old at art. I mean I guess now that's kind of a moot point because I'm writing a review, so I'm sorry for being a jerk (keep trying, hibachi man!!! I believe in you!!!). In fairness, people don't tip enough to expect him to be a hibachi ninja, but I digress. I got the hibachi salmon, kind of a meager portion of fish for more money than the chicken (which is still stupid cheap in comparison to Canada so I am thankful) but I survived the day without wasting away to a skeletal remain (woe is me). The sushi we got was great, but my boyfriend got a roll that seemed to be like 99% panko. Not my style but he loves it.. The server at lunch was so accommodating and great, he was so on point with all of our orders and was quick to refill our drinks.

In the past, I came here for dinner with my family and was not thrilled by the price-quality ratio. The prices were high and the quality was meh. But then I came here for lunch one day with a group of my friends, and it was a completely satisfying experience. Lunch special: they have a list of rolls you can order 2 rolls (6pc per roll) for 5$. What a deal! I ordered 4 rolls for 10$ and it was delicious and such a good value!!! I'll be back here for lunch again, I guarantee it!

This place was not the best sushi place I've been too but they did have a creative menu and the food was good. I often find that hibachi sushi combinations usuallly are a little lax on the sushi part of the menu unfortunately. I would try them again though.

Server Gal was super attentive and accommodating! I ordered udon soup with beef. 1st of all I ordered it wrong she caught it and fixed it! 2nd, she got a booster and more water, & last she gave us a entire entree cuz my girls udon was spicy. Rolls were yum, hibachi was tasty! Thx.

I had sushi lunch at Fuji with a companion after several friends recommended it. We sat at the spacious sushi bar, which is front and center in the restaurant instead of tucked into a cramped corner in the back. Our drink orders arrived quickly. My lunch date and I were both a little surprised that paper sushi menus and pencils weren't provided and that we had to use the traditional menu and order through the waitress. I ordered the roll special #2, a California roll and two additional rolls of my choice for $8.95. I also ordered an order of tuna sushi, which was two pieces. My companion ordered a yellowtail combo of nigiri sushi and rolls with a side order of tuna sashimi. My lunch came with a salad, but I had to ask for it after my sushi was ready. It was no big deal, but this is yelp, and it happened. My companion and I sampled off one another's plates, and everything was tasty and fresh. We split the salad and both enjoyed the sweet ginger dressing. My combo had California rolls, tuna/avocado rolls, and spicy tuna rolls. I don't generally order them, because they're made with "krab" instead of crab and meh, but the combo is one California roll and two rolls of choice. The tuna/avocado and spicy tuna rolls were both quite good. The spicy roll wasn't as spicy as I expected and included some fried tempura crispies, which were different but not bad. Next time I order spicy tuna rolls, I'll ask for some extra heat. I will also explore the possibility of substituting something else for the California roll. The tuna sushi was good quality and tasted fresh, but the pieces were small and came with only a tiny dot of wasabi on the plate. The service was great, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I'll definitely eat at Fuji again.

Love it! The food is always good. I am a huge fan of sushi and I think they have a great selection at a reasonable price though I always order the same thing (Cookeville and Manhattan Rolls) so I couldn't say how their other sushi compares to others in town but for those two, 5 stars! I typically get the chicken fried rice and honestly can't complain. They give you a ton so you can eat half there and save the other have for luch or dinner the next day. The atmosphere is kinda 'meh' but the food is worth going for!

Hibachi was awesome! A little salty for me. The Sushi was best I had eaten in a long time! Great service & prices not to bad.

Came here after a disappointing run on Taiko, pleasantly surprised. Decent tuna in the rolls for the price. Good presentation, prompt service. Fried rice is good and a large portion. A little salty, but good flavor. Glad I gave it a shot.

The food is consistently good. The wait staff is knowledgeable and the service good. We always do a booth which is more cost effective and more options available.

My Mom and I split a crunchy, spicy crab roll, while our friend had something that...I was not sure of. But both looked beautiful and tasted good hahah. The hibachi was good, but not as good as I've had in other places. Our waitress was a treat and wore giraffe earrings. This scored points in my book. The atmosphere was calm and had soft Japanese music drifting through the air. I felt very comfortable and full by the time it was over. The bathroom is a bit small though, and very cold, even a bit dark. But the sink was pretty. All in all, 4 stars because I love good sushi, and hadn't had it since I moved it. :) Will definitely be going back.

Typical hibachi restaurant, chef was great as he interacted wonderfully with our children. Especially our 18 month old who got scared of the fire. The sushi was delicious, though the salmon was almost room temperature, which I don't understand as they have a nice sushi bar setup with table top refrigerators. Nothing scares me more than warm sushi. I will chop this up as a fluke because the rest of my sushi order was exceptional. I think the waitress could have been more responsive, I think it took us almost 15 minutes after we finished eating our food was done to get the check. This may not sound like a long time, but she was nowhere to be seen, and we were on a road trip.
