For such a feel-good place, I've never seen such a sad group of white people than I have in this Cracker Barrel. Cracker Barrel? More like 'Sad Crackers with Barrel-sized waists.' I mean, here we are in a room of fireplaces and Civil War artifacts, and yet you're all eating your hash browns as if you're recovering from a brain parasite in some hospital bed. Lighten up, O Heavyset Ones (if you can)! You've got that peg game you can play while you wait for your second serving of coffee! Your waitress is doing her best BS friendliness routine! Come on, y'all. Besides the pathetic fact that a corporate chain is still trying to capitalize off of an "old country feel" (and that, despite actually being IN the old country, Tennesseans still buy into it), the only annoying thing about this place is the wait time. While you wait, you can either sit on a rocking chair, staring at that huge white crucifix (conveniently located across the highway from a sex shop) OR you can shop around for scented candles and other domestic kitsch. Funny, for such a homey country gift shop, these prices sure are urban. Someone get the Hillbilly Coalition on this. Where's Mike Huckabee? I WANT ANSWERS. Good parking though.

I just want to preface this review by saying that not all cracker barrells taste the same. When we go on road trips, we always try to eat at a cracker barrell, it's what we do. And I'm very impressed with the food and service at this place. They had fluffy biscuits and fresh tasting turnip greens, yum!

This was one of the most disappointing, if not the most disappointing, Cracker Barrel I've ever been to. They were out of many menu items, including muffins and bacon, and nothing was cooked up to the usual Cracker Barrel standards. The only thing we had that was up to par were the biscuits. The service wasn't very friendly either, many different people brought things by the table and most just plopped things down and walked away. I will say my coffee was kept full, which I appreciated. Maybe they were just having an off day, but I definitely wouldn't recommend this location from my experience. I've been to many Cracker Barrel's that were delicious.

Me and The Squad rolled up in our matching Dilly Bar Squad t-shirts first thing on Saturday morning looking to get sorted out with some of that good Cracker Barrel baby and one of the Squad members had on some fly Minions pajama pants and we were all looking GREAT to be honest. Anyway our waiter got all of our orders wrong and said he could hook us up with free eggs but we didn't know what that meant. All the other employees were nice and loved our matching Dilly Bar Squad t-shirts and loved us too. Probably will not be back. But if any of the girls that work there want to get together get at me.

Notice to RVers: this cracker barrel has signs that say they have parking for RVS but they were all full of cars. It is not easy to get to this CB with an RV and then not have any parking.

After all these years, I finally made it to a Cracker Barrel. I was visiting my sister-in-law and her family in Cookeville, TN. When it came up that I had never been to a Cracker Barrel, there was a collective gasp of true amazement and disgust. The silence was quite awkward. My brother and I quickly - before I was shunned - made our way to the nearest Cracker Barrel for dinner. I get it now! Southern feel, southern charm, and southern portions. Our super-duper pleasant waitress laughed as she brought out our order: three entrees including fried catfish, chicken fried chicken, and country fried steak and nine sides, including fried apples, cole slaw, mac & cheese, corn, mashed potatoes, and carrots. I'll admit, I really enjoyed myself. It was fun, relaxed, and more importantly, delicious. Yes, all of the entrees and sides were delicious. But with each bite, the pile of food didn't seem to decrease in size. Our order for two easily could have fed six. When we got our check, it made me realize another fact: there is really good value here. Thankfully, I am back in good graces with my sister-in-law and her family. Phew! P.S. Has anyone paid close attention to the restaurant's logo?

I hate to give this I place one star, but there's a story involved. This was my first Cracker Barrel experience and it's kind of ruined me. I was always hesitant to eat here mainly because the idea of eating at a place that also serves as a retail store kinda freaked me out. Anyway, to the experience. First, we order. We're told that kid drinks are extra, outside of the meal. But when we ask for more drinks, we want more drinks. Simple as that. Then the food came out. Most of it anyway... We waited a good 20 minutes for all of our food. My husband ordered the trout, and the entire party waited to see if they were still fishing for the trout before cooking it because it was taking so long. Then, they got some orders wrong, and my food came out cold. Our waitress was not at fault, and I feel awful for tipping her badly, but when they refused to bus the table and remove the extra plates and cups, that went her tip. The manager came out with my husbands meal, and did not apologize when she dropped off the food or when we went to go pay. This really disappoints me to no end. I have heard so many wonderful things about Cracker Barrel and was really excited to try it, especially good southern food while in the south. I was very disappointed. I really hope the service and kitchen isn't this bad at our local Cracker Barrel. But for right now, I will NOT be back.

Most Cracker Barrels are great, and this one definitely didn't disappoint. Weary from having driven all day, we stumbled in looking for some classic Southern fare. It was a bonus too to not have a wait, but coming in about an hour before closing probably helped that, too. Our server was fantastic. Very friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic, too. The pancakes were nice and brown (but not burnt), and the bacon was cooked perfectly. I mean seriously, I only wish I'd been able to eat it all, but these pancakes were huge. And as always, the maple syrup was nice and warm, which I love. It's a nice little touch that separates them from places like IHOP and Perkins (both of which I do love) where the syrup's just room temperature. And of course, the fact that it's at least mostly real maple syrup, rather than flavoured corn syrup. Cracker Barrel is always a must-visit whenever we road trip, and experiences like this are why.

I cannot tell you how many times we have stopped at this Cracker Barrel. We love the staff here. They are so friendly and it is always a joy to eat here. I love this specific Cracker Barrel.

I didn't eat here, but it was sure fun shopping at the store inside the restaurant. They have all kinds of unique items. Old school stuff and southern items. I bought a stuffed 'possum. Really cute!

After passing a bazillion Cracker Barrels on the drive from NYC to Nashville, my wife and I tried our first Cracker Barrel in Cookeville. (We had planned on trying the highly reviewed Bobby Q's BBQ, but it turned out to be closed on Saturdays until 4 p.m. and we didn't have the patience to wait 2 hours in the parking lot.) Anyway, generally I can see why Cracker Barrel is so popular - lots of good food, reasonably priced and accompanied by sweet service. Our meal was a little slow coming out of the kitchen (by Cracker Barrel Speedy Gonzalez standards, but not too bad by regular restaurant standards). My wife's ribeye steak was tasty and tender. My chicken and dumplings were comforting and filling. The mashed potato was so smooth that I'm sure it came from a mix, but even that was OK and all the other sides (fried okra, turnip greens with vinegar, hashbrown casserole) were tasty. Enjoyed lots of free refills on the sweet tea to wash everything down. (As an odd aside, someone had brought a menu into the men's room and left it propped on top of the urinal. Not only was this disgusting from a sanitary standpoint, but it totally puzzled me as to how anyone could hope to read the menu and take care of washroom business at the same time. Happily, on a post-meal trip to the men's room before hitting the road, I saw that some kind soul had consigned the menu to the trash where it belonged.) Oh and if you're looking for any country kitsch or old-fashioned candy, the cluttered store that serves as both entrance and waiting area will be a gold mine for you.

Favorite part of the CB is the gift shop. It's a wonderland for children and adults!
