Mexican joint judging is so subjective. I mean, it really takes a bad place to be bad. La Perla is not bad! But it is not great either. It does have one great thing and that is the service. The staff is always friendly and engaging. The food is ok. I do like other Mexican Places more. My critical point is the food can be extremely greasy. (Yeah, I know that is kind of what you get with Mexican). I mean REALLY greasy. My bottom line: great service, ok food. I will and do go back. It will fill the spot when the need hits you.

2 Mexican restaurant reviews in ONE week?! Unheard of! I think I've only been to 4 Mexican restaurants total in my life. Anyways, I was out in Collierville yesterday, and given that I am never there, I immediately went to my handy Yelp app to scope out the restaurant situation. I must have still been on my high from Los Compadres because the reviews here piqued my interest and I decided to give it a whirl. Starving, I immediately ordered the tortilla soup. I am a cilantro and avocado junkie so as soon as I read those two words, my appetizer fate was sealed. When it came out, it was gorgeous. I mean, it was a really stunning soup. Seriously, check out the photo of it. I was expecting the best soup I've ever had...but upon tasting it, everything fell flat. I don't know how something that pretty and full of yummy ingredients could be so bland. A little disappointed, I decided to go with the chimichanga - now that was a yummy lunch. The location of this place can't be beat, and our waitress was very nice. She disappeared for a bit and I had to flag down someone else to get our check, but I can't be upset about it because they were absolutely packed. It is next door to Bogie's so if I'm ever in the area, that will win, but if you like Mexican food, I would definitely try this place.

Pretty good. The staff is nice and the food was ok. I think it's hard to find good authentic Mexican food in the area but for Collierville it's pretty good. My kids love the P5 (just rice chicken and white cheese sauce) so this is pretty much the only Mexican restaurant we can take them to.

Coming from California I have high expectations for Mexican food. Unlike another place in Collierville they didn't disappoint.

Tasteless food describes this place. When the chips come out barely warm and the salsa has no flavor you know you're in trouble. Both of our entrees had no flavor and that includes the cheese dip. Over priced for Mexican too. Go elsewhere.

My husband and I are pretty easy when it comes to Mexican food but we have a a few basics that need to be there for us. Decent salsa, tasty margaritas and good service. Unfortunately, only one ofthose was there. The service was pretty good. Salsa, yuck. Pretty good guac, boring and way too icy rocks margaritas. Fajitas were ok. Probably won't be back .

I look for certain things when I go to a Mexican restaurant -- great chips, delicious salsa and outstanding nachos. This place delivers on all three, offers great prices and service and is located a few miles from our house. We are quickly becoming regulars. To be specific, I love that I can get meatless nachos without having to pay for the meat. The nachos come with fresh pico and cilantro which take them over the top!

Best Mexican food in C'ville. Passed my carnitas test. Juicy, tender, well-marbled and generous. (Beware the pork tip you can shoot from a slingshot, which these are not.) They offer three sizes of draft XX lager: 14, 22 and pitcher at reasonable prices. The restaurant is a good size. Not spacious but not tiny either. The way they've got it laid out and booth height allow for a little privacy on one side, while the other is wide open with community seating possible. I'm going back to try the carne asada.

We had been to this restaurant many months ago and it was fairly good. We invited guest to go with us on a Friday night this month, the wait was only about 15 minutes which was not bad for a Friday night in Collierville. From the moment we were seated our experience was terrible. Our waiter was not friendly and seemed over whelmed. Two young ladies were seated about the same time we were in the booth beside us. Once they got done with there meal the waiter told them people were waiting to be seated and they needed to leave. We thought that was really rude but the real problem was when my husband was having a conversation with our dinner guest the waiter took his plate! We were totally shocked! We told the waiter he wasn't finished but the waiter's response was " there was only a little left". It doesn't matter how much was left the point is he should have asked if the customer was finished. We will never be back to this restaurant!

The best tex-mex in Collierville, and a good distance around. I'm a regular, and I love this place. It's tex-mex, and it's well run. The owners are often there, and willing to listen to feedback. There are plenty of tasty dishes, and specials like the tortas they offer. It's good, every day tex-mex!

Absolutely love this place! Great prices, delicious food, and a friendly staff! Seriously, I have never gotten something here I didn't like and they have incredible happy hour specials. Definitely one of the best Mexican places around! Try the super burrito or any of the fajitas.

This Mexican establishment is located in a quiet shopping mall. The interior makes a bright bold statement by showing influences of Central American styles, as well as ancient Aztec and Mayan civilisations. There is some musty smell inside. The food is abundant and heavy, but unremarkable. The service is friendly and polite.

Loved the guacamole and salsa! The fish tacos along with fajita salad are delicious! Great service and prices!

I don't understand how the rating can be so high. Its cheap greesy cheese covered food. I would not reccomend this to anyone. Sadly there are only a handful of resturants in the entire memphis area i could.

I think this is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the Memphis area and certainly in Collierville. I've tried their fajitas; chicken, beef, combo and shrimp, all very tasty with the typical sides. They make very good fish tacos and I love their tortilla soup. Very hardy with lots of chicken, avocado and sour cream garnish; a meal in itself. Service is always good and the menu looks very good as well. Next time I go, I'll need to be a little more adventurous and try something other than the fajitas. They have so many items to choose from on their menu I sometimes just say screw it, just give me the fajitas....decisions, decisions, decisions.

This was the nearest thing to good Mexican I ever found in Memphis. The service was friendly, prompt, and accurate.

Some of the best Mexican food in the metro Memphis area. They make the best Huevos Rancheros I've ever had. This restaurant is my husband's favorite in Collierville. Don't forget to say hi to Chester, the fish in a bowl that "prefers to live alone". :-)

  • Justin L.

I went here for dinner once, and drinks twice. The margaritas are okay, but I have definitely had better. The food is just okay. It is a nice cozy place to enjoy a cold beer, and the prices cannot be beat--especially in Collierville.

Our family eats here weekly and we love it. If you come during predictable busy times such as Friday night the service can be slow. Plan accordingly and you will enjoy it as much as we do.

This place is tiny, but the food is usually tasty and the prices are good. The servers are efficient and not *overly* friendly. Favorite dishes: chilaquiles, carne asada, special chimichangas, tacos (any)

We tried this place while looking for something new. At lunchtime on a Tuesday, it was packed, so we thought that would be a good sign. Unfortunately, not so much. The service was adequate. Our server never once smiled, but brought drinks and food fairly well. The interior is that shabby cliché Mexican thing, with bright tacky colors and garb everywhere. But the food was a major letdown. I ordered the carnitas, which were ok. They weren't flavored very well, or shall I say, very much. Kind of bland. My husband has some burrito with six types of meat in it (steak, sausage, bacon, something else...). He thought it was good, but I thought it was loaded with cilantro. Like, offensively loaded! They had a bar, but we didn't order anything. There are far better Mexican restaurants nearby, so we won't be back.

This is one of our go to Mexican food restaurants - more because it is close than because it is great. We came around 7:30 on a Friday and waited 5 minutes for a table. Drinks and chips came fairly quickly, but we waited a bit to place our order. The salsa was not as good as I remembered and the chips are just OK. I loved the taco salad I got with no meat just grilled veggies and I ate more than I wanted. The spouse got a heaping bowl of chicken tortilla soup that he really liked and a tossed salad that was more onions than anything. Pretty quick really, but we expect that at a Mexican food restaurant

My friend and I come here weekly for the lunch specials. Prices are very reasonable. The salsa and guacamole are delicious and the chips are crispy and fresh. The atmosphere is charming and colorful. The servers are very attentive and friendly and the food comes out timely. The portions are generous. I love the chicken fajitas with the caramelized onions and green peppers.

We've been having issues with our go-to place, so we decided to branch out. La Perla Tapatia is located next to Bogie's in Collierville. If you don't know to look for it, you'll miss the restaurant entirely. Salsa was tasty, chips were just OK. We ordered fajitas for two - they were somewhat bland, and there were tomatoes thrown in the pan along with the meat and usual veggies. Something about tomatoes fajita-style is just not appetizing. Service was so slow, and restaurant was not particularly crowded. Not good enough to return for us.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
