    Very quaint and old! The rooms are a decent size and comfortable bed. My one complaint is the noise. Walls are very thin and the noise that comes from the water pipes is very loud. My favorite part was the wine and cheese at night in the lounge area for guests to enjoy along with chocolate covered strawberries! Very accommodating and friendly staff. There are fresh cookies to enjoy outside your room as well. The restaurant next door is fabulous farm to table. Great food!

    Booked one of their four "exclusive balcony rooms" for my sweetie and I this Valentine's Day. I had never heard of the B'n'B before, so this was another great Yelp find for me. It's in a kickass, historic building that was a hotel until 30 years ago or so. What converting a hotel into a bed and breakfast with just 20 rooms means is big ass rooms. Most rooms feature king size, crazy nice mattresses, jacuzzi tubs, showers, and a fireplace with a sitting area. The balcony rooms feature more room and a desk, as well as (obviously) a balcony overlooking downtown Chattanooga. The common areas are very well designed; great care was put into every detail. The dining hall is opulent. No other word for it. Gigantic ceilings, a bar, great furniture, big windows, an amazing, huge mirror, nice glassware, the works. Additionally, there is a parlour with a billiards table and some really old memorabilia, a library with gigantic stacks, and a sitting room with a grand piano and more of the same...throwback finery. There are complimentary cookies lying around the premises, a great breakfast (sometimes prepared, sometimes buffet) is included at no charge, as well as dinner on Friday and Saturdays. Edie, the...property manager??...is sweet and attentive, the rest of the staff, which is very small, basically keeps you from noticing they're even there. Not everything was perfect though, and I'll recount the negatives to close the review. First, they charged me for parking automatically, when I could have easily parked on the street. Second, as other reviews note, the floors creak loudly, but that's a bit expected in such an old building. I'd prefer creaking, original wood floors to the carpeted hallways of megacorp hotels. The balcony had been overlooked during the previous housekeeping; there was a nasty ashtray filled with butts and some trash awaiting us. There were a few stains on the duvet cover as well. Finally, all the televisions are tiny, older TV/VCR combos. You aren't really planning to watch a lot of TV in a place like this, but they offer packages that feature watching Casablanca and other romantic movies...they'd do well to invest in some newer technology. They'll also come into your room and light a bunch of candles around the jacuzzi tub for $20, but what they don't tell you is the candles stay there permanently, so just bring a lighter.

    We stayed there in November 2014. I'm giving it three starts because the breakfast and kitchen staff were great. The hotel gets two stars. The room was quaint, as other reviewers have said. The location is great. The room was dirty; hair in the bathroom - yuck. There was no dust ruffle on the bed, just exposed box spring. The bed was small and gave poor support. The door knob popped off the bathroom door and it wouldn't close all the way - no privacy. The room was loud - noise from the restaurant and the front street. Then the house keeper was knocking around the floor in the morning way too early. The front desk isn't what you would expect from this level of price. I called ahead of time to ask a question about a local service and it was suggested that I Google it. For this price I expect more concierge-type service. They're very concerned that you pay to park in their lot, but otherwise not so worried about service. I've stayed at a Super 8 that had a friendlier front desk. We booked through a third-party service and we think we got downgraded from the room type we selected. Considering the place was mostly empty, I'm surprised they gave us a loud and small room instead of a better one. Overall it was a good experience, but I would stay elsewhere next time unless I got a really good deal here.

    I loved staying in a space that felt personal and inviting rather than a hotel where you're a nameless client. Our room felt a little dated, but we peeked in others and found that they were more light and airy than our pink-red walls were. That being said, we had a lot of space, the whole place was clean, the bathroom was lovely. The breakfasts were delicious and filling and all the staff we encountered were professional and helpful. I like the secure entrance as well. Our only complaint would be that the king-size mattress sloped in the middle, but after a day of exploring Chattanooga with family, even that wasn't a big deal.

    Just got here and I'm already in love! I just love the chic antique feel of the inn. Staff is lovely. Free wifi is awesome. And a gated lot for my car is sweet. The room is super cozy with comfortable bedding, antique furniture, huge jacuzzi tub, and large shower. I highly recommend staying here and will be staying here again whenever I'm in Chattanooga.

    My wife and I stayed at the Stone Fort on a little weekend getaway to Chattanooga. We wanted something a little different than a standard hotel, and this one certainly fit the bill. As an older building, it certainly has its quirks, but that's why we wanted to stay here. It's always fun to stay somewhere with a history. We stayed in room 26, which was cozy with a great bathroom. The mattress is super soft. Peeling myself out of it in the mornings was pretty difficult. Having breakfast in the fairly up-scale restaurant downstairs is a nice touch. It's a pretty standard hotel buffet, except a little better. I'm often a little wary of some items on hotel buffets, but everything here was great! Having coffee and tea available 24/7 was also very nice. My one disappointment with our stay would be the lack of, well, explanation and instructions. Upon arrival, there was nowhere to park our car at the front of the building thanks to cars lined up for valet at the restaurant. I wasn't even really sure what I was supposed to do. After circling the block, I finally wiggled into a "spot" on the street and went inside. The lady at the desk finally looked at me like "Oh, you're checking in?" and went on to explain that I should leave my car on the street with the flashers on and take my luggage upstairs, and THEN she would tell me where to park. It was just a very odd and less-than-awesome arrival experience. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I know how important that first impression is. We also weren't entirely sure where to go for breakfast the next morning, and then we couldn't find anybody to check out when we were leaving. Someone finally walked by and said we just leave our keys on the desk. None of it was explained particularly well. That said, the staff was generally very nice aside from the lack of guidance. Overall, this was a nice experience in a very charming hotel. It's in an excellent location where you can walk to Warehouse Row and shuttle stops that take you to the rest of the city on the free electric shuttle. Despite the minor issues figuring things out, I would definitely stay here again.     The room was nice and all (Room 23) and the breakfast was tasty (eggs freshly cooked to order when you come downstairs). The bad part was the cars that sounded like they were coming in through our window! I am a decent sleeper but my husband can sleep through anything....we both tossed and turned all night as the buses and cars came by 10th street. It sounded like we were laying in the middle of the highway. We did not sleep more than 30 minutes at a time. The room was clean and spacious and its a cute B&B but unless you have earplugs or really can sleep through a bus in your ear this place was WAY too loud. Side note - this was not due to other guests as the hotel was deserted on Sunday night. We were the only people on the whole floor. Also agree with other reviewer - check in process was less than ideal. $8 to park down the street and the front door was locked so we couldn't figure how to get INTO the inn. The guy working the front desk the next morning was much more professional and friendly. Also the entire hotel was deserted on the Sunday night we stayed there and there was 5 empty rooms on the 2nd floor that looked awesome (king bed/ balcony) not sure why they didn't upgrade us for free since the whole floor was empty? Odd. It was a good try but we will never sleep here again. Oh wait we never slept there when we were there either. ; )

    We stayed in a Queen Suite and were absolutely floored at how beautiful it was. The breakfast was amazing and the hospitality was top notch. Wonderful place.

    We loved our stay at the Stone Fort Inn! We came to Chattanooga for a weekend to see a concert and wanted a unique hotel that was centrally located where we could walk to dinner and the show and Stone Fort fit the bill. The front desk woman was super friendly and I love that they have a wine and cheese reception every night at the bar downstairs (we also stayed for a few cocktails because our bartenders were awesome) We stayed in a standard Queen room. The room itself was spacious and full of charm. I loved the old floor and the brick wall. The bathroom was surprisingly large and included a huge two person jetted tub, separated shower and water closet. The only down side was that my boyfriend didn't like the mattress- he said it sloped in the middle and made him roll in. The weekend breakfast buffet was great! I especially loved the cheese girts and home fries. :)

    Checked in on Sunday afternoon, expecting to just stay one night. My boyfriend and I enjoyed ourselves so much, we stayed Monday night too. I will stay at the Stone Fort Inn any time I'm in Chattanooga. Let's start at the initial greeting. Dee was at the front desk and was so genuinely nice and helpful. We were given a key to our room (25) and walked up the old wooden staircase to find our perfect room. Immediately, we threw down our bags and ventured through the sprawling room. Working fireplace, check. Clawfoot tub, check. Huge shower, check. (not to mention good water pressure from all faucets and hot, hot water). Comfortable king-sized bed, check. Free wifi and a tv with AMC so we could watch Walking Dead, check. Private hot tub on the patio, SOLD. That was what really had me. Dee and James assured us our choices for libations and food were good ones and told us about The Honest Pint, right around the corner. Probably our favorite place in the area now. The next morning, after decompressing in the hot tub the night before and getting a great night's sleep, we headed downstairs for breakfast. Not your typical hotel breakfast bar. Delicious fresh fruit and choices from a 'build your own parfait' to loading up hot biscuits with sausage gravy and adding a side of bacon and/or sausage. The chef then came to our table and offered pancakes and/or eggs made to order, which were delicious. I had a coffee and then took some Earl Grey for on-the-go. The dining room was so cozy and had great music playing (Avett Brothers, Black Keys, Feist, etc.) It was during breakfast when we decided to stay another night and we were able to keep our same room. That night, we told the night concierge where we were going for dinner and she gave us a card for a free appetizer, that saved us an extra $14! When we returned after a night of going out, we had the front desk concierge get us a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. It was reasonably priced and was very much enjoyed. The only con of the whole place is that you are able to hear any noises from the floor above you. While we were taking a cat nap in the afternoon, we were sure people upstairs were rearranging furniture for a solid 20 minutes. If you're looking for a silent hotel room, go stay at a modern hotel with short ceilings and carpeted walls. I prefer the ambience of Stone Fort Inn to a mega-hotel any day.

    I stayed at Stone Fort last year (July 2012) and it was one of my favorite parts of a great long weekend trip to Chattanooga. There is really nothing I can complain about, as I loved everything -- the restoration of the historic building, the antique furniture, the spaciousness, the wonderfully friendly and kind staff, and oh my, the wonderful breakfast! My accommodation, which was a free upgrade, was just lovely and so roomy and comfortable. I had, all to myself, a big bedroom, a sitting room (with a fireplace) and a huge bathroom with a giant jet tub and separate shower and separate toilet room. All of it was decorated in homey, but not too-too cute antique/lived in furniture, as you'd expect at most B&Bs, and everything was clean and fresh. There were two TVs and wifi so despite the cosiness, there was also technological comfort. I've never stayed at a hotel suite that made me think "Wow, I wish I could live here!" I am eager to go back so I've signed up for their email newsletter, according to which they've turned their dining space into a full-service restaurant, which sounds promising as the breakfasts I had there were superb.

Went away for rest, came home exhausted. Sounds like we had a bad room- so stay away from 21 if u go! Maybe request back of hotel, top floor?

    Our one night stay here was far, far too brief. The b&b is located right down town and was walking distance from everything we wanted to do in the city. The room was BEAUTIFUL. I cannot stress that enough. We stayed in an "Exclusive Balcony Room", which was every bit as elegant as the photos on their website made it out to be. Often with hotels, the photos on websites are a touch deceitful - not so with StoneFort. If anything, they don't quite do the public areas justice. Parking here is really easy as well. When you arrive, pull up next to the building, check in and carry in your stuff. Then they will give you a parking tag that will let you into a lot about a block away. Once we parked our car in the lot, we ended up just leaving it there for our entire stay and walking to everything. Our room had a large king bed that was really high off the ground, but which came with a stepping stool to assist any of us who are under 6' tall. One peril of this beautiful wood bed - when you go around the right side of it, my husband and I both smashed our legs. He hit his shin really hard, and I hit my knee so hard that it is still bruised nearly two weeks later. Soaking in the sweet, sweet Jacuzzi tub helped melt away the pain. Breakfast was quite good as well. There was juice, coffee, tea, and water to drink, a table with pastries, fruit, yogurt and some breakfast meats, a bar with assorted cereals, and then a prepared breakfast as well. My husband and I both had the quiche, which was enjoyable. Summary of things I liked: - Beautiful décor in both room and public areas - Awesome bathtub - Lovely balcony with wrought iron chairs - Free Internet - Complimentary sparkling water in room - Delicious breakfast - Very friendly, helpful staff I would more than happily stay here again.

    The StoneFort Inn is one of the nicest establishments I've ever stayed in. While I was only there for a night - the room, the service, the details were all memorable. Each room, according to the woman who greeted us, is decorated in a different style. I was given a key to a room that mixed classic and modern. French inspired drapery & linens with dark dark wood floors and exposed brick walls. The bathroom was huge! And you know when they say "you could fit a football team in there!" Well, I don't know about a 50-man roster, but I swear you could have fit 20 people in that bathroom. My room also had a balcony but by the time we got back to the inn that night I really couldn't see the view. On the afternoon we arrived our hosts offered up glasses of wine in a darling bar/lounge area. Later that night we found a basket of wrapped freshly baked cookies upstairs in the hall and the next morning we were offered a great breakfast. Pastries were deslish... and the to-go cups for coffee/tea were especially nice. Really really nice people and rooms. Should I ever be in Chattanooooooga again I'd definitely stay at the StoneFort.

    Came here for our 20 yr anniversary. It is everything a B&B should be. Old w creaky wood floors and very nicely decorated big rooms. The staff was very nice, bfast was very good and the atmosphere great. Only downsides would be if you are under another floor you need no imagination of what is going on in the room cus you hear the floors but what B&B doesnt? Overall great place.

    Beautiful shabby-chic boutique hotel. We stayed in a King Private Balcony. The rooms are a comfortable size with a large bathroom. The private balcony is nice with a wrap-around screen, which is fine because the view would be a roof. The bed was comfortable but the fireplace wouldn't light. Customer service is awesome and the breakfast is not your basic continental buffet. The building is secured which is comforting. The parking lot is across the street and behind a building but is easily accessible. The restaurant downstairs is fabulous for a more fine dining experience. The bar is quaint with a seasonal cocktail menu along with standard choices.

    My new favorite place! My husband and I decided to spend our anniversary at the inn and we absolutely loved it! Dee at the front desk made us feel very welcome and totally at home and also pointed out some cool things to do in Chattanooga. We will definitely be back!

    Our first night was quiet. On our Second night (rooms 21&22) my husband heard music at night, while I heard it at 5am (it never stopped) and couldn't get back to sleep. Suddenly the earplugs on the nightstand made sense. I wouldn't stay here if you like to sleep at night.

    I sit here in their room sweating on my honeymoon, and not for the good reasons, and it is 10:30. This place is pretty, but the rooms are over 80 degrees at night in the summer. When I asked about the room temperature I was told that they will not get much below 80 in the summer heat. Had they informed us about that we would not have stayed here. Go to the Bluff View Inn instead of this place!

    This was our first time at the StoneFort Inn. It is a very quaint B&B with quite a bit of character. The rates are good, and the location is great. The first floor was under complete renovation, so it was hard to get a true feel for the overall experience. However, I love a B&B that is willing to upgrade to make experiences even better. Looking forward to staying here again after the renovations. Overall, a cute little gem in downtown Chattanooga!

    Stayed two nights instead of at the Marriott next to the convention center. Very comfortable, excellent service (James is the affable manager), delicious full breakfast, and for less than the Marriott conference rate. Exactly the stylish, historic interior I was looking for, located within walking distance of convention center and aquarium. Also, very helpful in resolving a receipt needed for expenses after the fact.

    The StoneFort Inn is a lovely, well-appoined B&B in downtown Chattanooga about a 15 minute walk to the Aquarium, dining, and other goings-on. We stayed in a private balcony room, which meant a closed-in (mostly) jacuzzi tub on a small outside patio, and a queen bed. We went back and forth between deciding to rate StoneFort a 3.5 or a 4, but settled on a 4, and here's why: PROs: (1) LARGE rooms with lovely decor and a fairly comfortable bed. (2) The office manager, Edie, is extremely friendly, helpful, and welcoming. (3) The dining area for breakfast is large and the food selection is decent. Good scrambled eggs & bacon accompanied by a sountrack of orchestral transcriptions of '80s/'90s love ballads. Think John Williams conducts Bryan Adams. (4) Location is good, as noted above - walk one block to Broad St and hop on the free electric shuttle to take you around, or walk. (5) Private patio bath was a nice touch but only included in a few room tiers. CONs (only one, really!) - SOUNDPROOFING. While the Inn's hardwood floors are gorgeous, they creak very loudly and movement can be heard within a radius of several rooms. As I type this, guests above us are shuffling around and we can really hear it. We could also hear them after midnight last night - can't hear conversations, just very loud creaking. Once everyone settled down, though, it was easy to get to sleep. This CON was enough for me to want to dock down to 3.5, but since it's only an issue if you have a lot of guests around you (it was full when we were there), you may not experience this issue. T didn't have as much trouble with this, but I'm a light sleeper. We'd say this is a $$$ for Chattanooga or a $$ if you're coming from a big city, as we did. $145/night before taxes. All in all, though, a great place to stay in Chattanooga.

    I booked this hotel for my husband as a Christmas gift. We do not have family so I wanted us to have a nice distraction from the fact that everyone else is spending the holidays with their families. With that in mind, I booked at this boutique hotel thinking that we would get better, more personalized service than one of the large chains like Marriott, etc. Boy was I wrong. The fact that we received very impersonal service was only further highlighted by the fact that it was a smaller inn and the fact that there were only a few other guests there the same night. First- I called ahead to ask if they knew of any restaurants that served dinner on Christmas Eve. "I'm sorry, I don't" was the reply. Through a quick google search I found Hennen's a few blocks away was open (and wonderful by the way). It would have been nice to get a good referral from the Inn. Even if they offered to find out and call me back that would have been nice. Nope, we were on our own. Second- No breakfast for us! I read reviews on Yelp and saw that someone else had missed breakfast and was disappointed, so I made a point to look on-line and get the time of the breakfast so that we did not miss it. Additionally, when we checked in we asked the lady there to show us where breakfast was served. (Take note- we were one of only 3 guests in the inn). So imagine our surprise when we came down for breakfast at 9:20am and were met with "I'm sorry, you missed it". Well stupid me I guess for assuming that the weekend breakfast hours would be observed on the holiday (8:30am-10am) as opposed to the weekday hours (7am-9am). I guess she didn't notice that we didn't come down? She could have stated the hours the day before when she showed us the location of where it was served, seeing as how 7-9am is pretty early for breakfast, especially considering we are from Nashville and on central time. But again, I guess for her to notice any of this would have been personalized service, which they apparently do not offer. It would have been nice for them to even offer a little concession (even like just $20) for the missed breakfast, as a show of consideration, but nope, just a big smile, a tilted head and an "Oh I'm sorry". What a disappointment for my husbands Christmas gift. We actually joked that instead of a B&B we just got the "B". We ended up going to a little diner around the corner in the Day's Inn hotel that was pretty good considering how limited our choices were for Christmas morning. I am a very frequent traveler and have stayed in many hotels, Boutique Inns and B&B's so I am CERTAIN of what type of service to expect from each type of place. The Stone Fort Inn is a place that would one would expect more personalized service and consideration (especially more so on a holiday and when the inn is nearly empty!). Instead of the warm fuzzys we expected, we felt like tolerated guests for a night. It is sad because we are always looking for favorite places to get away to on a regular basis. Stone Fort Inn fell short so our next trip to Chattanooga we will be trying the Chanticleer Inn B&B. I just realized I didn't mention the room! The bed on one side had a huge dip in it but was otherwise comfy. The rooms do look just like they show on line. Our disappointment was all about the lack of service, as the room itself was nice. One more silly thing that I noticed..there are a lot of nails and nail holes that need to be patched and touch-up painted. It looks like some redecorating or moving things around was done, but they left all the old nails in place. I'm a stickler for details so they just stuck out to me.

    This is the perfect place for travelers who enjoy history and authenticity over corporate sameness. It's a beautiful inn and I'm so pleased we found it. My gentleman friend and I stayed in a Queen Suite which has a spacious bathroom (complete w/large shower + jacuzzi tub), nice sized bedroom and a lovely sitting room complete with fire place. The Inn is conveniently located close to the convention center and within walking distance of much. Yes, the floors do creek - but we were on the top floor so we had the best of it. The breakfast room is really lovely and the breakfast is ample. A buffet of fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade scones, juice, coffee, and tea are ready for you when you come down - and then you're asked if you'd like scrambled eggs and bacon.Yes please! There are also baskets of chocolate chip cookies on each floor for those who need a snack. This is a great place to try out the "bed and breakfast" experience for those new to it - it has always been a hotel so you have plenty of elbow room and lovely amenities. I am looking forward to spending my week in Chattanooga here. Coming from LA, and having compared this Inn to local corporate hotels w/comparable amenities I think it's very reasonably priced - remember you receive a complete breakfast!

    We had an amazing stay this weekend at the Stonefort Inn in Chattanooga. It started off rocky because the special private balcony room with a hot tub that I had booked for our 10 year anniversary was not available due to rennovations. However that staff there and innkeeper (Dee and James) went above and beyond to make amends and make sure that our stay was wonderful. To find such hospitality these days is a rare gem and we will definitely be returning. The inn and rooms theirself were beautiful and elegantly decorated. The bed was very soft and comfortable. Our room had a beautiful clawfoot tub along with a walk in shower. It was a short walking distance to many restaurants as well as the Riverfront area. The breakfast buffet was delicious and had a wide variety from french toast to gravy and biscuits. I would highly recommend for a relaxing and romantic weekend getaway.

    I'm still missing this hotel with its nicely designed rooms (without being too designed or posh), spacious bathroom with a window, reasonable price ($129), balcony, nice breakfast with Sinatra tunes in background, cookies in the evening, close proximity to downtown, vintage soda vending machine, and intelligently amiable staff. I'm giving it 5 stars for all of this and its great vibe.

    Booked a room through orbitz.com on December 11 while reserving the room I did supply orbitz with my Credit Card information to hold the room (which is clearly stated in the reservation confirmation) It also shows the amount due at booking is $0.00, with the amount due upon check in as $139.00 (+tax) Needless to say I was quite surprised to get a phone call on Monday from my credit card company inquiring about charges being made to my card in both Charleston, and Chattanooga at the same time. I called the hotel to ask about the charges and was informed of the hotels policy (which makes sense - since it is a small independantly owned hotel) to require a deposit of one night. My only complaint - or rather suggestion wasto the front desk manager (Bryan) that their policy was not on Orbitz, and that they should possibly update that. He went into a 5 minute Beligerant tirade about their hotel policy. All I was trying to say was that it was not mentioned on Orbitz. After being yelled at I asked him to please just cancel the reservation. He then tells me that being a small hotel they do not offer refunds on canceled reservations. However this is quoted directly from the hotels website "Weekday cancellation policy: Cancellation notices received at least 24 hours before your scheduled check-in time will be given a full refund. If you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled check-in time, we will make our best efforts to re-rent your room and give you a full refund. If we are unable to rent your room, you will be given a full credit in the form of a gift certificate to the Inn (less a $25 administrative fee). My reservation was for May 13, 2012 ... Canceling on December 11, 2011 seems to be well in advance of of my scheduled check in time. I spoke with James the general Manager on December 13, 2011 who assured me that a refund would be made. First thing this morning I called my credit card company to check if a refund had been posted to my account and it had not, so I called the general manager James again this morning (who once again was not available - and not expected to be in until late afternoon. I suggested he call the General Manager and tell him I was expecting this to be resolved by 9am (it has been going on three days now) He took my number and minutes later the General Manager called me and told me he was going to file harassment charges if I called again. In the THREE phones calls I made to the hotel all I was trying to do was ensure the charges to my credit card were reversed. If customer service is impotatnt to you I would really consider trying the Chattanoogan, or the Bluff View Inn which both come highly rated from the Chattanooga Visitors Bureau.

    This place is SUPER cute!! My friend and I stopped in for a night of relaxation I out drive to New Orleans and were not let down. Right downtown, the location made for easy access to walking. It's super clean, tastefully decorated in a colonial style (it is actually a refurbished colonial hotel with original woodwork), and all the rooms have their own character. The king lady at the front desk let us choose from a few open rooms upon a arrival since they were vacant. All rooms have wonderful jetted tubs for 2; some even outdoors! Some have lovely balconies (which we opted for), and all have a mounted flat screen and other modern amenities. Breakfast was satisfactory; unfortunately arrived too late for wine and cheese. Great place, friendly staff and highly recommended!
