No longer living there but wanted to follow up on our reviews there while their food continued to be really good the service has declined at the end of our time there its become very slow and some employees need more training we are disapointed to see that happen because it was one of our fave places hopefully they will improve and go back to giving great service as before

This restaurant rocks. Our foreign looking chef was great as he put on a show. All the food he cooked was done just right. Menu items ordered: Steak and Chicken which came with rice and veggies. I asked for my steak well done. I dipped in the white sauce he gives every body which is their best. It has the best flavor and seems to be popular with everybody else too. The steak was cut up into small pieces. The chicken was in bite size as well. I had no problems in dining out on this night. I don't understand so many negative reviews they get. This is a nice restaurant in a pleasant setting. They were awesome and I would come back---and I will. So go ahead and come in and watch chef give you fire show as you see in my pictures and eat great food.

Don't waste you're time. Sat down with reservations. Waited at least 15 minutes and no one asked us what we wanted to drink. Decided to go to fugi...I will also rate them. We were seated immediately 4 and high hair despite the full parking lot! already have drinks on the way, so we're at least starting off right!

After waiting over a half an hour for our order it had come to light that our food ticket had been misplaced/mixed up. After asking for a discount on our order for the inconvenience and untimely service the waitress was sent back to us notifying us that a discount will not be given and to " take it out of her tip". The unprofessionalism and the fact no member of management even bothered to come out and apologize to us, is only the tip of the iceberg. Along With mediocre service and food.. Needless to say I will not be returning .

Possibly THE worst sushi I've ever eaten. The eel was cooked to death. The raw fish was warm and tasteless. The eel type sauce was all over everything. The crab in the spider roll was fried to death and I could find NO crab in the center pieces of the roll. The salad dressing tasted like a mixture of thousand island and ginger dressing and was like water poured into a bowl of cut lettuce. The soup was nothing but broth and a couple mushroom slices. It was awful...

I was on a business trip in the Chattanooga area and stopped by Shogon's for some takeout. I had the 6 pc tuna rolls as well as the filet with red snapper. The food was very good and I think large portions. A nice little gem.

Friendly staff, but dated building and they messed up our bill at the end. Entertaining and good food for the experience. Overall, recommend for family with kids, but not a date night experience.

So I have been a patron at this place for years. The service and food have been great. Now it's completely changed. Went there for lunch today. Took the waitress 30 mins to get us our drinks and salads. Then she was non existent for the most part during the meal. The cook was right to the point, which was good because by this point we were starving. The shrimp was ok. The chicken, on the other hand, tasted like it was out of a can or something. When the chef was prepping the veggies and meat, a piece would fall into the area where the stuff was scraped, and he would flip it back on the grill. (Gag). If you are looking for good Japanese food in Chattanooga, go to Fuji, Ichiban, or some of the independent places downtown.

This place is not worth what you pay for it!!! Rice is awful. Small portions. Crappy service. Just BAD sushi told look like they were box shipped to then and just thawed. Chicken was good as long as you made all 10 pieces last the whole meal. Just bad. I was speechless

Really? We just recently moved to the area and have been looking for a good hibachi restaurant. We still haven't found it. We ordered from a regular table instead of the hibachi. We were seated in the sushi bar and I immediately noticed that the owner or manager had an established work area at the bar, complete with piles of schedules, newspaper, receipts and computer logged into Facebook. The food was horrendous. I ordered steak and chicken and my son ordered Samari steak. The fried rice had no flavor. The steak tasted like it was rancid. The Chicken was the only thing edible that was served. After asking three times for hot sauce and white sauce it was finally brought by the waitress. As we walked up to he register to pay our bill the guy behind the counter was reading something on his smartphone. No acknowledgement. After at least a full minute, oh yes, he saw us, he casually took our money. So, here it is, you want crappy food and service, then this is your place. If you want decent food and service for less money than this place? Go 1/2 mile down the road to the mall food court..

I went for sushi. Average at best. The waitress got in an argument with a manager in the middle of the restaurant. Won't be back.

The food was pretty unremarkable, but the service is what guarantees that I will never be back. I came to the Shogun as part of a party of 10. I ordered Steak and Scallops. We got to the end of the meal, and I had never been served my scallops. Anyone can make a mistake; the measure of a restaurant is how they go about fixing things one a mistake has been brought to their attention. In this they failed entirely. When I told him about the problem, the chef said that he would prepare them in the kitchen and send them out, but nothing ever happened. I never got the rest of my meal. When I complained to the waiter, I was told that I did not have the option of getting the scallops I had ordered, rather, they would not charge me. When the bill came, my meal was still on the bill. When I complained again, I was told that they had already charged the credit card, and they would refund the money in cash. When they came with the cash, I found that they had not comped the meal, rather they had refunded me only a few dollars for the scallops. And this was on a bill of over $300. Also, the chef decided that I did not need to know all of the options available during the meal. He asked if I wanted hot sauce, and he asked if I wanted white sauce, but waited until he had completely finished cooking and the meal was almost over before mentioning that a Ginger based dipping sauce was available. And then there were the noodles. It seems that you have on options of having your meal with noodles instead of fried rice. The first I heard about this was again, at the end of the meal.

I know TN isn't known for being a mecca of good food, and my expectations were especially low for this place. But it was so much worse than anything I had imagined. We started with a tiny plate of soggy iceberg lettuce floating in a vaguely obscene white dressing. The fried rice had at least a pound of butter added to all the oil... so much butter that it didn't even have a chance to melt before it was served. And the mayonnaise sauce made me want to gag. If the vegetables were edible before I was told to add the mayonnaise stuff, they certainly weren't after. It was cheap. Very cheap. You get what you pay for. A tiny part of me died that day.

I love the hibachi, everything was made fantastically, all the time. The only thing I'd complain about would be the slightly dated decor. :/

I went to eat here last week, and I thought the food and service was quite good, until I went to pay. I ordered a sushi roll with my meal, which was supposed to be 50% off. When I received my bill, they had charged me $8.95 for the normally $14.95 roll. I asked the waitress about this, and she agreed that this wasn't correct. She spoke with the manager, who informed me that they take the 50% discount after tax. This is when things got messy. When I pointed out the mistake, the manager became extremely patronizing. When I said that I thought they had calculated this based off of the wrong number, the manager said, "Well sometimes what you THINK is right and what is actually right, are not the same thing." I also got, "Let me show you how to calculate tax," in the most condescending way possible. Finally, the owner comes out, and he is also incredibly rude. Let me tell you, there is no way to get an intelligent young professional woman riled up faster, than to call her "little lady" and insinuate that she doesn't know how to do simple math. This negative review isn't about the food or the waitress-- those were both good; my complaint is with the management. The manager and owner are both incredibly rude (not to mention incorrect in how they charge tax)! So my advice would be to avoid this place and their so-called "50% discount."

While not as good as Fuji Steak & Sushi, this steakhouse is pretty good and their lunch specials are a great value.

Shogun is definitely a better deal than Ichiban. Portions are better and for it what's its worth, the chefs at both places do the same sort of tricks. Great for when the wife comes to town.

I went here this past week for lunch and it was good and entertaining. Dinner the prices double but lunch it is good and you get the same show for half the price. I didn't wait long to be seated. They werent as friendly as I would have liked but the flaming chef was friendly. I got water and my teriyaki shrimp with fried rice, veggies soup & salad w/ tip was $8.00. I will be going back. Funny thing was I was in the line next door at chick fil a and I know I would have spent the same amount of money and had more fattening food. It was a good place for lunch!

Monday nights are the best value, but sometimes the most confusing at Shogun. If you like sushi, Shogun has the best deal on Monday nights: $1 per roll or 3 sets of specialty rolls for $10. Great value for what it would usually cost and the specialty rolls are original and well worth it! The only negative about Monday nights is it gets really crowded and the service staff gets easily confused, sometimes bringing you someone else's plate. Make sure you put a mark on your order slip if you order sushi, so you know if it's yours when it comes back to you. Otherwise, great place! I try to make it there when I can on Mondays. They also have other dishes on the menu and a hibachi room, if sushi isn't your thing.
