Kimchi Jjiggae and Banchan was really good, but everything seemed a little over priced. I was excited to try their Jeon, but $12? Oh no. Might be better value for lunch, but I didn't really look at the lunch prices. Overall, good food but overpriced. Nice of you want to try Korean food, though. It's pretty close to what I ate in Korea.

A ghost town when I arrived. I knew there must be a reason. There was. The service was offensive. I felt as if I had to retrieve my own refills and lettuce to wrap my bulgogi and rice. The sea food pancakes looked as if a squid and octopus were violently massacred and thrown into batter . I couldn't eat it. She continuously interrogated us about the pancake. As if she were mad we were wasting food. She never checked on us throughout our meal. We had to get up and find her when we needed something. We had 4 orders of bulgogi and she brought a small serving of lettuce to wrap. Then when we went to find her to ask for more, we got another very small portion. My service was very unappreciated. I will never return. I know what good Korean is, and this is not.

When I saw the review about the server calling a patron fat - we figured the place sounded authentic enough, so we should go. =] Even when in Korea - eating out - I'd just get my usual - bulgogi or bibimbap. So..., being extremely adventurous.... I did the EXACT saaaame thing here - I had the bulgogi. (Hey, change is scary) The meat's good, seasoning's nice w/ that little bit of sweet. It's not riddled with veggies in the meat like some places The sides are what you'd expect: kimchi, radish, soybeans, cucumber, and rice. We also had seafood jigae - that nice spicy korean soup just hit the spot. Service was nice for us - so we can't add to the interesting stories of Seoul restaurant. Prices were certainly not cheap, but then again - I guess they can do that since this appears to be the only full korean restaurant in Chattanooga. Overall - a good place, so we'll probably be back - gotta try the bibimbap next time and report back!

My husband took me here years ago, and I'm a huge Korean cuisine lover. The food is okay not amazing. I ordered the bulgogi, they hardly had any good side dishes and it wasn't authentic food. The service was so slow and I literally had to wait forever for my check. Would I come back? No thanks. It was desert empty when i got there. That should've told me something.

I have been to Korea and the food reminded of the food I had Korea. I was expecting an Americanized food like Chinese restaurants, but this wasn't so. The small appetizers that I received with my food, kimchee and different veggies and noodles, was just like you would get at Korean restaurant in South Korea. If you want traditional Korean food this is the place to go. I haven't tried Vietnamese food yet but I bet it is just as good.

Seoul is the most authentic Korean restaurant in Chattanooga. My "date" had never tried Korean food before, so I did some research because I wanted to make sure she had the best experience possible her first time. I have been to countless Korean restaurants across the US that couldn't even get the basics right, no matter what their menu claimed they could make; so I was apprehensive and worried that this would be a repeat experience. What I discovered though, was a true gem of a Korean restaurant right in Chattanooga. Generally with ethnic restaurants, you know you're in good shape when you walk in, and everybody eating in the restaurant is speaking the native language of the restaurant. If a restaurant can pass the test with transplanted natives, you'll be just fine. This is what we found, walking into Seoul. It literally reminded me of stepping into the doors of a restaurant in Los Angeles Koreatown (arguably the best Korean food in the US). Don't worry though, their english is just fine. We shared a plate of Galbi, which is a marinated and grilled Beef Short Rib; a Haemul Pajeon, which is a savory seafood "pancake"; a Dolsot Bibimbap, which is rice topped with various styles of vegetables and meats with a sunny side up egg all in a hot stone bowl; and a selection of Banchan, which are usually pickled/ marinated vegetable side dishes. ALL were great and of high quality. Seoul definitely passed my benchmark test. Korea gets to be a cold place in the winter, and Korean food is perfect for a cold night. The Galbi is served on a sizzling iron plate. The Dolsot Bibimbap is in a hot stone bowl that keeps the food warm and crisps the rice against its surface while you eat it. The spices and soups, like the soondubu jjigae will make you sweat in the middle of winter and leave you warmed. For Korean food in Chattanooga, this is where I go. 4/5

I went to this place many times and rent Karaoke party room a couple of times...place always clean and empty (no one goes there) Food are ok but some not and bit over priced. Just Be Aware Lady Owner is Very BOSSY!!! We saw her video taping us from the kitchen during our private Karaoke party. We asked her multiple times to stop, but she just laugh and ignored us. So that's it, I'm not going back again.

I was rather skeptical about this restaurant based on the reviews, but my fiance and I went for lunch just to see how it was. I was very pleasantly surprised. Service was friendly and prompt, and the restaurant is attractive and clean. The woman who greeted and served us was cheerful, and drinks and banchan arrived quickly. I was prepared for a slightly smaller selection of banchan, so it wasn't a surprise. That said, the kimchi was tasty, and the sesame potatoes and bean sprouts aren't spicy but are good. I felt like the banchan did offer different textures, though only two basic tastes - still, just fine. The mandoo (dumplings) were delicious. Steamed and then pan fried, and the filling is not overseasoned. My fiance's bulgogi was tasty, if underspiced. The seasoning is there, salty, sweet, and umami, but the default for the dish seems to be zero spice. It'd benefit from some heat. Rice that came with it was fresh and hot. I got to experience the owner? waitress? 's maternal tendency when I ordered. I wanted the beef jigae, but when I asked for it, she shook her head, said "Not yet, not yet," and pointed to the beef stew. "They say it taste same, you like it." I made sure it would be spicy and went ahead with the recommendation. I couldn't tell if she meant that the beef jjigae wasn't available yet or if she thought I wouldn't like it. Either way, the beef stew was quite good. Spicy broth, same beef as in the bulgogi, lots of veggies (onion, bell peppers, jalapeno pepper, carrot, celery), and a small bowl of rice. Don't be fooled by the size of the bowl: it holds more than you think. The bowl also kept the soup very hot. I left quite satisfied and very full. Overall, it was expensive - $40 with tip for 2 lunch entrees, mandoo, and 2 sodas - but I would and will go back to try some different dishes. I'd like to rate it 3.5 stars, because it wasn't quite up to four star, but I think it's not so bad as to deserve 3 stars.

I've eaten here 3 or 4 times now and each time I've left dissatisfied. The kimchi was leafy / not too stalky which I like, but it didn't really have much flavor at all. We asked if the dumplings were vegetarian and we were told there is "only a little" meat and proceeded to encourage us to order it... Of course I don't want to order it, im not "only a little" vegetarian. I ordered the kimchi soondobu medium spicy. There was very little flavor. I've tried this dish at other korean places (not in Chattanooga), and while it has varied to some degree from place to place, I've never been dissatisfied like I was with this rendition. Sadly, I even added soy sauce to it just to give some kind of flavor. Also, no one that got the soondobu got an egg, which is typically served with this dish to crack into the stew (this was not a problem for me as I don't usually eat the egg anyway). While we were there I got 1 refill on my water. Even though my empty glass was sitting right at the edge of the table, the waitress passed our table to fill up everyone's glass at the table near us and passed by again on the way to the kitchen without even asking if I'd like a refill. Lastly, the bill was way to much for what we got. I've gotten much better food at other korean places at the same or better price. I don't mind paying for quality, but this was not.

Rip off. Every time I go for lunch, the lunch cut-off changes. Dinner Menu the lady yells, and the price goes up around double. My last lunch cost around $13.00, the $6.50 bowl of soup became $10.50 with about two pieces of pork. The owner is more interested in fleecing you of an extra dollar or two, and if you think this is good food, try Korean in Atlanta. Precious little for your dollar. My last "Lunch" was $13.....nevermore quoth the Raven. Perhaps this is why the restaurant is always empty.......

I personally love this place. I moved to Chattanooga last month and have eaten here twice and have only had great service from the owner and great food. I'm half Korean and while it's not a full Korean menu or grill tables, it definitely fulfills my Korean cravings. Samgyeopsal is my go to Korean dish and I love the little hot dishes they serve it on to keep it hot and cooking while you eat. The owner always seems to genuinely care about the food and her customers. I recommend it for sure.

The bad service doesn't make up for the terrible food. I ate here while on a business trip. I love Korean food and eat it regularly in Charlotte. I ordered the beef jigae soup. What they brought out was nothing more than luke warm dirty dish water. Even the rice was stale! The waitress hung out in the back of the kitchen and never brought refills or asked if I was okay. I had to get up and yell for her through the kitchen door to get my check. This place is awful. STAY AWAY!!!

Well I wanna say it is average and a little bit overprice. We ordered the beef grilled on the iron plate and hot stone pot. The former one tastes good but soon I felt greasy. The banchan side dishes are very disappoiting.

Having been to Korea a number of times in my life, I have a fondness for Korean cuisine. I was excited when I saw there was a Korean restaurant in town as normally I only got to enjoy the food when I took a trip to Duluth or went to a larger city like Miami or Chicago. I absolutely adore the lady that runs this place. A friend and I come here at least once a month, sometimes twice, and she always remembers us and what we like to order down to the appetizer and is always incredibly pleasant. I have tried a majority of the menu and my favorites are the kimchi jjigae (spicy and hot, just perfect for a cold day), the jeons (yummy unsweet pancakes with either seafood or kimchi) and the bul go gi while my friend rarely strays from the bibimbap. The owner runs the place like any restaurant in a Korean city, takes your order and leaves you to your own devices unless you have need of her, which in all honesty is the way I like it. The banchans are limited but very good, normally it consists of baechu kimchi, sukju namul and gamja jorim among others. I would recomment this place to anyone wanting to try Korean food in Chattanooga.

No services at all. And overcharge prices without any explanation. Can't communicate with the owner/ waitress, she couldn't speak a whole English sentence. Food taste bad. Strongly suggest don't go to try it. It is the worst experience in my life.

Nice clean interior. Friendly, earthy hostess/owner. Had a cod soup. Not salty, good blend of vegetable and fish. Medium portion size. Side dishes are authentic Korean, not too spicy, no MSG. She seem to cater to American taste buds. If she keeps original Korean flavor she will add more clients of all spectrum.

Food is mediocre at best. For curiosity sake, good for first try, but not recommended for introduction to Korean cuisine. Be warned, if you speak Korean, the owner lady will sit down and chat while your eating. Also, they say no MSG, but they use MSG in all of their dishes. Ask me how I know, a family friend is allergic to MSG. Been there three times, and I recommend their instant Vietnamese Pho.

I love Korean food, I eat it almost every other day even I am not a Korean. I thought the food would be good, because the waitress is Korean, usually their food won't be too bad to get only one star from me. But it is the worst Korean food I have ever had, the kimchi taste too light, the kimchi gigen( spell could be wrong is the kimchi stew) which suppose taste spicy and little sour because the kimchi, but it was taste less, no flavor at all. Luckily, I don't live there so I won't accidentally walk in again.

I grew up in Asia and very familiar with the Korean food. The food here is mediocre. I can see this may be the only option in Chattanooga to have Korean food... but let me tell you, the owner is absolutely rude and judgemental. She makes you feel very uncomfortable by staring up and down. I also noticed she wasn't treating the wait staff with respect. I would never return to this restaurant.

Seoul - awesome every time! The food is fantastic and we always leave with a cute story to tell along with satisfied bellies. We have ordered many dishes from BBQ to soup and enjoyed each one. After reading complaints about the owner/hostess, I must tell you that it's probably a cultural thing. Go hang out with a bunch of Korean ajima and you'll get the same thing. They're gonna hand feed the children (even those that aren't theirs) and pinch your muffin top. It's not meant to be insulting though it can come across as such. We have ordered dishes that she refused to serve us because they hadn't been shopping and the ingredients weren't fresh. That's service to me. My only complaint is that I would prefer MORE variety banchan (appetizers in the little bowls).

Horrible service. The lady was extra rude and snooted at us. No wonder we were literally the ONLY ones in there! If you want rude service, this is the place to go! I'll never come back.

Although I come from an Asian family, I am not familiar with Korean food. My fiancé is however. I wanted to try it and he was keen on having some again. The place was completely empty, which was a little sad. It was very clean and neat with non-offensive decor. Our waitress was a VERY sweet little lady who was very prompt during most of our meal. She did lag a little with the check, but we were totally fine with it as it wasn't anything excessive. The World Cup was on today, and every small business that catered to foreign tastes that we visited had employees gathered around TVs in the back to see who would win, so we didn't hold it against them. Food was really good for the most part! My fiancé really liked all the small dishes. I didn't think they were bad, but not completely to my taste. My main critique there is they were all vegetables and all seemed to be flavored with the same oil with the exception of the potatoes. My beef dish came out sizzling and our little sides of rice were cooked very well. My beef dish was flavorful and my fiancé was satisfied with the spiciness and taste of his pork dish, which our waitress recommend to him. I ordered a Vietnamese coffee, which was like a dessert in a glass- quite sweet, but really tasty. My fiance ordered a thai tea that needed some work as the dairy wouldn't mix well and there was still sugar granules at the bottom. The price is a fair to a tad high for what you get, but I enjoyed my meal and plan to return. Overall, the service is nice, the restaurant is clean the food is different from what you can typically find in the area, and it's good. I recommend at least trying it out.

I got the bul go gi to go. I am used to more Banchan to accompany the meal which is why I gave it 4 stars. Otherwise it is spot on. THe place was empty, no idea why.

I've had Korean in atlanta, NYC, and nashville. I kept putting off trying this place because I didn't think it would compare but I was wrong. The food was good. I will definitely be going back! The service was ok but what you would expect for a Korean restaurant. The server barely spoke English. So if you know that upfront and are ok with it you'll have a great experience.

    (4)
  • Sam L.

Got the Thai ice tea and it was a little sweet. The kimchi was too sweet and needed more seasoning. The bean sprouts are very tasty. Got the bim bim bop and it had barely two spoonfuls of beef. The pot got too hot and the rice got burned on the outside. It was barely chewable. Its also overpriced for $13. The owners are very nice and sweet, but I wish I could rate it higher.

If you consider yourself a true Korean who experienced authentic korean meals in Korea or big cities in the US for that matter, this place is not the place to go. I have visited this place couple times over the years, and every time I visited, I received the same result. Yes the side dishes are known to be popular as what the owner would say, but it's rather generic and salty for my tastebuds. It tastes like it was store bought from a korean market. Note: If you order dol-sot bibimbap or any beef related entree, you won't be too disappointed. It's actually not that bad. However, if you order any of the soups, especially soon-doobu (tofu soup), you will be let down if you're expecting the taste you remember from any other legitimate korean restaurants. I'm a college student who cooks at home frequently, and I can honestly I can prepare a better dwen-jang jigae (bean soup) than the restaurant. If you have a korean wife or a mother who cooks at home, please go pay them and have them make you a nice meal instead. I have eaten at many Korean places in Chicago, Nashville and even in Atlanta that's far better than this place that represents the food of Korean culture. And those places that I have eaten out of TN aren't even considered the best in the town. This is how sad this place is. I can guarantee that if you ask any korean mothers you see on the street to make you a meal, their food will be 100% better than what this restaurant offers. The fact that this place is the only Korean restaurant near here, I would love to see this place grow.

I will give a play-by-play of the dishes later. So as not to mislead anyone, the food was decent, but the service was inexcusable. As a general rule, if you want to create and/or keep customers, be nice to everyone who pays you. That's just plain common sense, so if a curvacious lady comes and sits at one of your tables it is in your best interest NOT to call them fat and/or suggest dishes with a stated reason that they need to be on a diet. Further common sense should tell you that if you do call a patron fat, it should not be in front of the six foot, two hundred fifty pound man who has his arm around her. He will not take it well. Sadly, the presence of a white haired, thin Korean woman apparently trumps this knowledge because she will leave a tip for the ridiculously rude waitress even after she has been told multiple times that it should not happen. For those who want to jump in and defend some "cultural" elements here, being insensitive is not "cultural" to any degree; it's bad manners and bad raising. With that out of the way, on to the food... My grandmother-in-law had the cod stew, which was an acceptable spice level, but left a briny taste on the tongue. The fish continues to cook in the broth, so my advice is to eat it first so it doesn't overcook. The broth over the white rice wasn't too bad. My wife had the sizzling stone pot rice, which wasn't that great. The sauce they give for it is only spicy, where I'm used to the spice being balanced out by honey to cut the bite. I had the galbi, which wasn't bad. The meat was already cut off the bone, but two large bones do come with it, which we gave to our dogs. The waitress did give us trimmed meat of some kind for our dogs, possibly because she finally picked up on how pissed I was at her. Sadly, it was too little too late. If you're looking for good Korean food in Chattanooga, just drive to Nashville or Atlanta. Heck, even Huntsville has better quality thanks to LG being headquartered there.

I got the Dol sot bi bim bap which was delicious. The menu said it had ground beef in it but I got bulgogi in mine. It needed more meat in it. It came with all the sides which is a lot of food for one person. The woman serving us was very friendly and attentive. I will come back the next time I'm in town.

I travel a lot... this was my first time in Chattanooga, TN. After a long day, I was craving some home cooking. I found Seoul, and gave it a try. I don't mean to offend, but Chattanooga is not NYC, LA, Atlanta, Dallas, etc... so the people that are not from the area should take that into account before talking down to the place.. There was no one in the restaurant, and the owner was so nice, that I asked her to pick the entree for me. She noticed I ordered the So-Ju, so she picked a wonderful An-ju for me to accompany it. The variety of the ban-chan was not great, but that is why I mentioned the area before! With all things considered, I would give it a try if you are in the area looking for some "home cooking"... cheers!

I am Korean so I love Korean food. I got the Agu Tang soup, Bul go gi, and Kal bi. The soup is so amazing with nice size pieces of fish to grab with the chopsticks and nibble off the meat from the fishbone in soup that is spicy. The Bul go gi was alright with the seasoning and vegetables in it, but the portion of meat is big. The Gal bi was the best or maybe it is the soup instead. Gosh it's sooooooo good. I like the ppl that own it too they give me business too. The service is quick and friendly and within 15 minutes my meals were ready with side trays of food to eat with each entree having a nice size portion of rice with it. They even had a leaf lettuce in the to go as edible food show mmmmm. The cost for the 3 meals is reasonable. I will be going back for sure. The environment is a good environment to just have a great energy providing meal. Korean food is bomb.

Great Korean food in Chattanooga! I lived in Seoul for 3 months after college and really miss authentic Korean food. This is a friendly, nicely decorated restaurant with a varied menu and vegetarian-friendly which is important for me. enjoyed the hot pot bibimbap and kimchee pancake and side dishes. my 2 year old loved it too.

I was here the day they opened. I loved what I had. My wife got something that sucked. Mine was some sort of soup w/ bean sprouts and pulled pork. I don't now what it's called but man, it was awesome!! My wife got a bowl of plane rice w/ an egg on it and no spices. It was awful. We just asked the lady to get us something an American would like who has never had Korean food. She did great for me :)

This is a wonderful little place tucked away just off of Hwy 153 in the Sportsmans Warehouse shopping complex. Easy to get to as it is just past the merge of I-24 and Hwy 153 off the Lee Hwy exit. The service is good and they are very friendly. Effective but not overly attentive is how I would describe the overall service. I have never seen this very nice place very crowded even though the food is excellent. They serve a variety of dishes and you can customize it to suite your taste from mild to burning hot. I've been here many times and have tried a variety of dishes and each one has been great. Just make sure if you say you want it "hot and spicy" that you really mean it! I assure you it will be! I hope more people will give this place a try as it is a very nice hidden away gem in Chattanooga!

Best Korean restaurant in the city. Coming from Los Angeles' Koreatown, my wife and I were worried about finding good kimchee in Chattanooga. This place quickly allayed our fears. It is homemade, spicy, delicious. The bul go gi is excellent, and my wife always ordered the soondubu jjigae, extra spicy with kimchee, and it would come bubbling and steaming to the table, and I can't even tell you how much fun it was to watch her sweat through that bowl for 45 minutes. It made her so happy, which made me happy, regardless of what I was eating. But I ate a lot, too. On top of being great cooks, the owners are incredibly nice. Highly recommended.

Seoul 6321 Perimeter Dr Chattanooga Seoul is an example of amateur cooks producing home-style ethnic food to an American audience. There is nothing professional about the preparation, execution or presentation of the food. The same is true of service which suffers from language problems. The menu lists two pancakes-seafood and kimchi, dumplings and egg and spring rolls ($14.99-3.25). Entrees are a variety of grilled, braised, stewed and stir-fried dishes (18.999-8.50) including fish, fish eggs, ox intestine and octopus and some large casseroles for two or more (32.99-19.99). Although monkfish is a listed ingredient, I am skeptical it is actually served. The truncated "Vietnamese" menu consists exclusively of noodle dishes and pho (10.95-8.50). Banchan, small plates, are served first. These traditionally consist of pickled, marinated and raw vegetables, bits of omelets, seafoods, and meats, in fact, anything that suits the cook's fancy and offers a variety of tastes, textures and forms to tease the palate. In professional restaurants, these are presented as compositions reminiscent of Japanese dishes, and in fact represents one of the few positive contributions accruing from the brutal Japanese occupation. The banchan at Seoul are crude and repetitious. On two visits they consisted of crudely cut radish, cabbage, and potatoes and bean sprouts, all flavored with vinegar and/or chili peppers. The flavors were monotonous and texture unappealing, but they were the brightest flavored dishes served. The pancakes were adequately prepared, although the poor quality of the frozen seafood, mainly squid, detracted in terms of taste and texture. The dumplings were Japanese style, but fatty and bland. The grilled marinated beef was probably the most successful dish; well sauced, it had beefy flavor and tasted of the soy bean paste used. Less successful was the spicy pan fried pork and vegetables which was not spicy or tasty and was further diluted by the use of cheap, watery vegetables such as squash. The pan fried pork belly was inedible. Completely flavorless, the previously frozen chunks lacked any succulence and were nearly impossible to chew. The spicy octopus was only marginally better, having the texture one imagines of erasers and no flavor but the pepper sauce. Bi bim bap, rice with ground beef, veggies and fried egg, was poorly received and required doctoring with soy and hot sauces to be eaten. Stews are soupy affairs aswim with atypical veggies (squash, etc.) with few pieces of the listed meats. While Seoul no doubt services "authentic" home style cooking (assuming the home cook is not particularly talented), it bears no relation to good, restaurant quality Korean cuisine; for that , go to Atlanta. Ambiance: Fair Service: Fair Food: Poor Value: Poor ssmynkint Dec. 2011
