What a disappointment. I first heard about this place ten years ago but for some reason or another never made it out. We had heard such good things about it. We went tonight, finally. This is a vintage, old fashioned, country Tennessee dining experience as far as the type of food served, the atmosphere, the setting, and the clientele. Unfortunately, country people can't cook catfish, from my experience. It had zero flavor. I do like the fact that they use cornmeal batter. And it was hot and crispy in places. But no flavor. Why not add some salt to the batter? Or some other seasonings? Likewise, the hush puppies were bland -- and dry. The slaw was terrible, the worst I've ever had. The foodservice fries were good and hot and the tartar sauce appeared to be made there and was good. The service was bad and rude. Save yourself the drive and go to Captain D's or Long John Silver's for good fried fish and sides. Far better than this place and much cheaper. Or get some Gorton's out of the frozen section at your grocery store. Or if you really want a treat, go to Uncle Larry's on MLK in Chattanooga for the best fried fish on earth served by the nicest people you will ever meet.

15 years ago I would take my Dad here as he loved catfish. I would order a shrimp dish of some sort and I remember overall it wasn't bad. My Dad is gone now and my gal and I decided to make the trip for a belated encore. She ordered the regular size shrimp, and I, with mouth-watering thoughts of Calabash shrimp, ordered what is locally called popcorn shrimp. Waitress seemed to be in a bad mood at first and never recovered. Only thing worse was the versions of shrimp that she slid onto our table. My gal's shrimp was tasteless and my popcorn should have been called 'pre-popped'. Both obviously frozen. The sweet tea was good however but I did have to refill them myself. I usually tip most servers 30% as I know they work very hard but adjustments downward are possible if service bad; this young lady ended up at minus 10%! Their prices were high enough that fresh shrimp, breaded and fried in kitchen could have worked. Real disappointment.

Best place to eat ever! We had the popcorn shrimp, catfish filets, coleslaw, hush puppies, our son had chicken tenders and fries. They will not disappoint! Worth the drive and price.

If I could give it zero i would. Used to be an amazing restaurant two years ago, and my parents have been going here for 32 years. Now it is one of the worst eating experiences at a restaurant. They were even out of fingerling catfish - and they're a catfish house! The catfish was tasteless. We spoke to the owner afterwards expressing our disappointment - we loved this place and wanted it to succeed. He was not receptive to feedback, "we're not going to change the way we cook our fish." It really makes me sad that they've ruined this southern institution with family feuding. Vote with your dollars like the rest of the people no longer occupying their dining room and don't bother going here!

Went here last night, because I was craving fried catfish. The (bone-in) catfish fingerlings were pretty good. I was a bit confused about what I was getting (I thought it would be smaller pieces of a large catfish but it was actually about 8 small, whole fish), but that's no fault of theirs, I suppose. Hushpuppies were pretty good; a bit too dense and dry for my taste, but not bad. Husband got the catfish filets and those were HUGE and really good. My biggest problem with the place was the sweet teas we ordered. Now, I love sweet tea. Drink it a lot (probably too much). And I like my tea sweeter than some do. I don't think I've ever had tea this bad. Ever. It was SO sweet, we couldn't even drink it. Hopefully it was a mixing mistake, but I don't know. We had to trade the teas in for a fountain beverage. I'll probably go back again, but this time I'll order the filets. And definitely no sweet tea for me.
