I've been eating here for over 20 years and although some of the food quality has slipped a little over the years, it is still one of our go-to restaurants. The Bruschetta is amazing if you like lots of tomatoes and garlic. The geek salad is high quality and topped with fresh Greek olives and feta cheese. The spaghetti with meat sauce is a classic favorite and the bread sticks with olive oil are delicious. The price is very reasonable for the area and the staff have always been friendly.

We were from out of town and chose Chattanooga as our overnight desination to do something different. We knew we wanted Italian and used YELP and our GPS to navigate our way to something local and NOT in the downtown touristy area. We found our way here on a Friday night, sat in the car with our sleeping child, looked over the menu and decided to go in. (Previous reviews gave this restaurant about 2.5 stars.) We waited less than 5 minutes to be seated in a full restaurant. And much to my surprise, the menu was Italian and Greek! I was excited about Italian but thrilled to have Greek food. Good atmosphere. Tasty food. Server nice but had too many tables to give us great service. Owner was very nice. They're on Facebook. Every Tue & Thu is Greek night. Greek food & wine and music take center stage. Once a month there is a special Greek night. Three sets of reservations are taken for parties of 5 or more. Owner is Greek. We will be back for the Saturday night, monthly Greek event hopefully. Holiday Inn Epress & Fairfield Inn were both walking distance near the restaurant in case you want to partake in these events! PROS: kid ate for $1.99 pizza/salad bar, $10 bottle Cavit pinot grigio, bread, baked saganaki (feta), menu prices, portions CONS: service (servers need smaller sections), chicken fettucini alfredo was strong of cream and not balanced with parmesan

My lab and I stopped here during a 17 hour drive to Florida for dinner. The general consensus was that this restaurant exceeded all of our expectations. When we first walked in we saw the buffet. The price seemed reasonable - $7.95 for all you can eat, includes soup, salad, and pizza. After a couple walk bys, though, we decided an entree may be a better option. I settled on spaghetti with meatsauce and a Greek salad. Combined, I only paid $9 (without tip). I tried my friend's eggplant parmesan and it was phenomenal. We all left very full. From the outside (and, I'll be honest, a bit on the inside), this place looks like a dive. The food is delicious, though. Even more, the waitstaff is super nice and accommodating. The place for sure could use a little bit of an update in the decor but they definnitely have everything else down.

This place is pretty good for the price. The food is definitely cooked by chef mike (microwave). But, for microwave food it's pretty good and the portions are great. The service is good, the decor is terrible and so off putting that you feel like you time warped to 1989. I'm giving two stars because meh, I've totally experienced better.

Fun and relaxed atmosphere. But, the Greek food here is awesome! We had a sampling of lamb chops (yum!!), gyro, souvlaki (pork and chicken), Greek salad, spinach pie, Dolmades rolled in house and delicious) and some good Greek wines. Also had Mediterranean Grouper fish which was out of this world! We didn't even try Italian food. Eat here!!!

Absolutely amazing food and down home friendly service. If you don't stop here while passing through Chattanooga, you are truly missing out! Appetizers and entrees are reasonably priced, large portions, and skillfully and authentically prepared in a true Italian and Greek venue! An absolute must...

I have had dinner at the restaurant a number of times. They are a typical old style restaurant that has been there for many years I am sure. It is a family style Italian restaurant with quite a few tables and booths along two of the walls. It is not fancy, and it feels like they all know each other....I have been mostly in the evenings around 6 or 7 and have never had to wait long because they have quite a few tables. It is off Ringgold road just off I-75 so easy on and off if traveling and want a nice meal at a reasonable price. Parking is a little tight but has never been a problem. They have a couple of domestic draught beer selections but nothing to write home about. I am not sure if they have a full bar but they may have. I have had the sandwiches there and they are pretty good. This last time I had chicken strips and quite honestly they were over cooked. My guest had a salad and loved it. It was too much to eat in one setting. I have also ordered their large pizzas to go a number of times and you get 2 for the price of one and it was about 21 dollars with tax (for a meat lovers) and they are very good. This is a nice family old style restaurant that is comfortable being just that. I would not take a first date there if you are trying to impress; not fancy but friendly, clean and homey. I give it a 3+ and you won't go wrong if you stop in.

Really good Italian food at a great price. Chicken parm is one of the best dishes. Yum! Pizza is good too, with a really nice and light crust, get it with the salad bar for 9 bucks. Can't beat it.

Not the best Greek restaurant I've been in but it's worth the stop atleast once. Not all the food is good but the service was good but not great but it could be better this place could end up to be a chain.

Great little Italian Restaurant. We stopped here for an early dinner on a Monday evening. Place was clean and welcoming. After reading the reviews and the raves on the pizza salad bar, we opted for it. I guess we came in on what would be the lunch menu so the pizza/salad bar was a surprise at only 6.95 each. Everything was full and fresh at the salad bar. In addition to the lettuce mix, there was okra, kidney beans, garbanzos, and the usual items, plus cottage cheese, pineapple, peaches, 4 flavors or jello (very flavorable, not watered down as in some places), a coleslaw, potato salad, tuna salad and what looked to be a crab salad There were 4 or 5 choices of pizza, one was vegetarian and it was delicious (I am not a vegetarian) and they asked what we would like so they could replenish the pizza. A very nice and quiet meal that was very yummy. We were on a road trip from California and very happy to find this place. If ever i

This was my 3rd trip to Portofino's. My first experiance was Eh, the second time we had the pizza bar and I hadn't been back since. Last Sunday we decided to give it a try again. I would have given it 4 stars, , but a few important things dropped it to 3. First off we got there and I was impressed that they have cleaned up the place since I was last here. The restaurant outside had been spruced up and the inside was immaculate, or so we thought at first. The first problem was the waitress. We sat down and she handed us the menu's. We all gave our drink orders and she stood there. Finally we had to ask for a few minutes to peruse the large menu as well as the daily specials. She seemed to be hard to find throughout the meal and took forever to get our check. Two of the people in my party of 3 ordered coffee. The drinks came fast, but she put down the cups of coffee and left. No creamer or spoons. It took us forever to get her attention and she finally brought them. One cup had lipstick marks still on it from it's last use. It took another 5 minutes or so to find our waitress. Another waitress ignored us and the busboy didnt speak english, but after we showed him the cup with the lipstick on it, he brought us a clean one!...Like we would pour the coffee into the new one. Finally we got a fresh new clean cup of coffee with spoons and creamers. We placed our orders and she left. The salads arrived first and we ordered one house and one greek salad. Both salads were large. They both had large chunks of Tomato's which were definitely green house tomato's. hard and no taste. The cucumbers seemed to be old. They were soft and slimy. The lettuce was good, but ovedressed. The greek salad had two large chunks of feta cheese and nice tasty olives. Although I wasn't happy with the freshness of the vegetables, it was okay. We each ordered a different entree. I ordered the Gyro platter, which came with a side of Fries or Rice with gravy. I opted for the rice, minus the gravy. The platter is sort of a deconstructed Gyro. The take a pita and slice it into 4 pieces and then pile Gyro meat, tomato and onion on top with the Tzatziki sauce in a container on the side. The tomato was huge wedges and only 3 strips, not slices of onion. The rice was on the side, but they placed it on top of the pita, so it got soggy. I basically just ate the Gyro meat, which was delicious, on the pita with a bit of the sauce. Rice was mushy.....But it probably was the best Gyro meat I've had since New York. One of my fellow dinner companions got the Meditteranean Grouper with rice and it was perfect and delicious. The portions were huge, he took home over half of it. My other dinner companion got the baked grouper with rice. Again, huge portions and delicious. NO room for dessert. Again, the food was okay, but the service and cleanliness of the utensils and plates left alot to be desired. Ps. I will say that a few fellow diners got the pizza bar and seemed to enjoy it. Would I go again? Not sure...the restaurant itself was bright and clean, but I wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen.

One of my favorite places to eat. Even the pizza, soup, salad bar is to die for and only $8.95. Great quality food!! If you order off the menu the chicken parm is really good.

We checked this out after reviewing an article in the local paper. Parking is free and plentiful. The decor of the place looks like it hasn't changed since opening but that doesn't bother me as I don't eat seats and tables. We were greeted right away and seated quickly. Our server Sherri was very nice and had a good attitude, we weren't rushed and she didn't hover. The salad bar looked okay but looked like a lot of canned items so we didn't try that one. I went with a spinach, artichoke, feta stromboli. It was pretty good, the crust was delicious and the ingredients weren't bad. There's a sign on the door: no shirt, no shoes, no service but they also added: no muscle shirts. I liked that. What's up with people, can't even dress like civilized human beings, this ain't a tractor pull. I would visit this place again but I'm also open to trying a new restaurant.

Stopped here for dinner on Saturday June 13th traveling from Chicago to Orlando and staying in the area. Came here based on the Yelp reviews. It was overall very good. We had 5 adults and 3 teens. Everyone had an entree and the adults had a few beers. Total bill was $140 before gratuity. Very reasonably priced. Service was great. Wish I got her name but our server was very attentive and polite. Food quality was surprising. We're not snobs by any means. Average Chicago area family. We've ate Italian at some really great restaurants in Chicago on and around Taylor street and we've ate at some bad Italian restaurants as well. This was neither. While I didn't taste every dish everyone enjoyed their food. I ordered the veal parm. I wasn't expecting what I got on my plate. The veal wasn't frozen. It was very fresh and very good. You can tell when something is freshly breaded and this was indeed. The sauce wasn't my grandmothers but it wasn't a jar either. It was good. Overall the place was clean, service was great and the value was great. The area has a lot of fast food so if your looking for something "better" than that, this is a good place to eat. Will definitely eat here again on the way back through from Florida. Hope this helps someone.

We enjoyed our meal here very much. First, the hot bread may have been the very best I ever had, served with tasty dipping oil with herbs. My husband had the pizza and salad bar, all you can eat for $8.95, an excellent price, and delicious. Our friendly server told us that their apple cinnamon pizza was just about ready and it was well worth the wait, similar to a scrumptious apple pie. I had the pastitsio which was very good. We would go back in a heartbeat when back in the area.

My wife and I stopped by today after making a mistake by going to the wrong Portofino's (different owners). We thought we would still give it a try and sample something there. We ordered the broschetta (their spelling) and a hot italian sub that came with a side of fries. The brochette was a store bought hoagie bun that was barely toasted with shredded mozzarella cheese that was barely melted. It was then topped with a ridiculous amount of watery diced tomatoes with raw garlic chunks and then drizzled with olive oil. The bread became extremely soggy and we could only eat a bite or two of it. The sub sandwich, thankfully, was better. It had a generous amount of meat. The pepperoni, ham and salami was typical pre-sliced cold cuts but still tasty. The bread was toasted properly and had a nice crunch on the outside before biting into the softer inside. Now on a downward slope again.... the fries. Having worked in several food establishments, I could immediately identify the problem. The oil they were cooked in was very dirty and/or old. They were very dark and even though were hot and crisp, tasted old and burnt. The restaurant itself was very nice and clean. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. There was a pizza/salad bar there that had pizza that looked like it had been sitting there for a very long time. The salad bar portion looked very nice though. The lettuce was very bright colorful and appeared to be crisp and fresh. I saw more sophisticated dishes of food at other people's tables that 'looked' very good. So it seems it's a hit or miss as to the type of food you will get there. I couldn't get pass the horrible soggy bland appetizer thus my low score. But the friendly staff (including the cashier), cleanliness of the restaurant and seeing other dishes that looked appetizing, I would definitely go back and give it another chance if it was a little more convenient for me.

A decent little place near the interstate. We've eaten here a good half-dozen times and they have good Greek and Italian. Tonight we were pressed for time and would be leaving Chattanooga during rush hour plus the other family members were also on this end of town, and thus this was a place we could all agree on. I had the Greek combo platter (Gyro, Souvlaki, Pita, and Fries) as it's my favorite here. My wife had the salad/pizza bar as did nearly everyone except my daughter who got the shrimp. Everything was good, the service was good, and the price is good. It's an older establishment, but they keep in shape. The only minor issue was my wife asked for a spinach & feta pizza for the pizza bar but they never made one.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
