Mean Mug Coffeehouse Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Stopped in to check out this place while exploring Main Street. So glad I did! I really dig the repurposed/reclaimed/industrial look of the place. They have many different methods of preparing your cup o' joe exactly how you want it at prices that are competitive with your standard corporate coffee chain. They serve breakfast all day and have all kinds of baked goodies to enjoy with your drink of choice. I had a cup of drip coffee with a blueberry scone and yogurt with granola and fruit. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was friendly and I didn't get that whole pompous coffee officianado vibe that you sometimes get at non-chain coffeehouses. Overall, a wonderful experience. I will happily be back with more friends!

Such a great lil coffee shop! I would love to have one like this in Knoxville! Great coffees, food, and atmosphere! Good prices and service! Must visit! And of course wifi!

This is the BEST COFFEEHOUSE EVER! It's super trendy and delicious. Not to mention the prices are great for college students. Definitely will be coming back!

Great coffee, perfect cheese grits, and amazing biscuits were served to me with great care and an amazing price. Well worth a visit!

One of my favorite coffee places in Chattanooga, the vibe is so rustic and the food is absolutely delicious.. I usually get their meat quiche and whatever seasonal side and everything is always so fresh.

Stopped in one day to grab a cup of coffee to go. Cute space, very cozy looking. Wish I had time to sit in one of those comfy chairs and read. Looked through the goodies in the case and decided to grab a home made peanut butter cookie/cake thingy. So rich and sweet. I had to eat it in small batches. LOL. I ordered a cafe mocha and it was nice and hot and the perfect mix of mocha. Great pick-me-up. Saw lots of people having breakfast. Will definitely go back and sit in.

Here's the thing about Mean Mug....you know that when you go get a cup of coffee (like at Starbucks or some other corporate vending machine of a restaurant or foodservice establishment), you get a snarky hipster who really doesn't want to be there but strangely appears (on the outside) to be proud of being a barista as an anti-establishment "fuck you" of the whole bourgeois mentality around career and advancement but still somehow doesn't see the irony of charging someone $3 for caffeine that costs less than 15 cents...ok, well... Mean Mug is not that. What it is is the following: a friendly small place that genuinely gives you the feel of a place in the neighborhood that serves coffee and some pretty damn delicious food (think: breakfast) and while has the same sort of natural pretentiousness of a coffee house that wants to make you internalize one's (read: mine) self-loathing for being a corporate sellout (which I am, of course), every time I go there, I am again surprised by how friendly and genuinely NICE everyone who works there is. And it is no act. They will engage in conversation, do not rush you along and seem to treat everyone the same way. OK, so I do believe (naively) that everyone in Chattanooga is nice. That can't be true, but I am choosing to believe. And I will continue to go back to Mean Mug for coffee (when I do buy coffee) and want to sit and read or work in a place that is legitimately comfortable and engaging. Great work to whomever is the shepherd of the culture and vibe of this place.

I was traveling from Atlanta with my boyfriend to go visit a friend in the area. We stopped by this place to grab some breakfast and oh boy this place is GREAT! The sandwiches are delicious and the size of their biscuits are not to take lightly. I wish there was a mean mug in Georgia too D: But hey, it's only a 2 hours drive sooo..... I might visit this place again just to come back XD. Also everything is reasonably priced!

Nice little coffeeshop (seriously, it's not that big). Enough outlets to go around. Their products are nice---some of the better in the city. Good place to study.

  • Matthew S.

Coffee is super good. Customer service is great. Breakfast sandwiches are super delicious and everything is served up pretty quickly. The grits though. On point. So good.

Visited for breakfast early on Thursday 6/25. The latte was excellent, the bacon was devine, and the biscuit w/ jam was above average. The service was genuinely pleasant. I wish this was in my hometown so I could enjoy it more often.

  • Debbie W.

It must be called mean mug because they make a mean cup of coffee and I had a mean breakfast biscuit with bacon avocado eggs and provolone. My husband likes that they use real eggs and not powdered. It is in an old building with a nice cozy atmosphere

    (5)
  • Merideth M.

Seriously good cheese grits. Best I have ever had. We sat at the bar which was cool to watch all of the action of the baristas. My husband had a scrambled egg, spinach, and provolone sandwich, which is thoroughly enjoyed. The coffee was great too!

    (5)
  • Ben I.

Excellent coffee. Superb staff. Love the biscuits. Fantastic place, I'll be stopping in when I'm close by.

Staying at the Chattanoogan hotel and walked down here since it was close. Awesome coffee and pastries. Enjoyed everything we ordered. Service was great as well.

I often meet a friend of mine here for breakfast on Fridays. The coffee is good. The food is fresh and tasty. The service is excellent, the shop not too loud, and the customers friendly. It's not the best in any aspect, but it is strong in all of them. Come here and you will not be dissappointed.

Whenever on the road I make it a priority to visit a local coffee shop every morning. Mean Mug Coffeehouse was my first stop and favorite of the 4 different coffee shops I visited while in Chattanooga. Great environment + coffee was rich. I got the house brew, but the friends I was with got a cappuccino + mocha. Ample serving sizes, nice big mugs! I was a big fan of the outdoor patio. Can't speak for the food, but it looked delicious. I will definitely be stopping at Mean Mug my next time through.

These coffee shops are always a great environment for enjoying a coffee and conversation and this place is no exception. Great personable staff along with warm welcoming atmosphere equals dedicated customers.

Best coffee shop in town- friendly baristas, great coffee, delicious food. The ambiance is wonderful, too! Their breakfast sandwiches and pastries are always fresh and tasty. Highly recommend a stop here for anyone in town!

  • TJ Y.

Great food and coffee. Very subtle and quiet vibe and good service all around. Love the coffee and fruit. They have wide variety of lunch and breakfast. And very good music for the setting.

    (5)
  • Heather B.

Great ambiance and friendly service. The outdoor space is a huge bonus, and is well shaded in the morning for warm summer days. I had an Americano and quiche for under $8 -- they offer daily meat and veggie options and served with side of greens. I also loved that you were given a "for here or to go" option for coffee, unlike most places that seem to only serve in disposable cups. If you're in Chattanooga, give Mean Mug a try, you won't regret it.

  • Melissa C.

If my husband and I lived in Chattanooga, we would be here ALL the time. My husband drank the French press house coffee which he loved so much he bought a bag to take home. I got my typical: honey, cinnamon decaf latte. It was the smoothest latte with the perfect blend of coffee, milk and honey. The girls who served us were great. They were helpful and friendly. The seating is cozy and comfortable. We chose the two straight back chairs in the front window. I could have sat there all day! They also had a good mix of music playing for background noise. My husband says this is his favorite coffee shop to which we have been. I think I second that thought. It's lovely.

    (5)
  • Tracey H.

The blueberry lemon crumb cake was all that a crumb cake is suppose to be. Light, moist, and crumbly. With the blueberry and lemon flavor working in unison to create taste that taste buds want more. The latte was full flavor and served hot. Not cooled down from the milk which usually happens with lattes. Sit down stay a bit let your senses take in the aromas of the baked goods and coffee. The place has more than enough seating. You can sit and relax alone or with friends. Overall the place has great atmosphere.

  • Justin W.

Lives up to the name... A mean cup of joe for sure. It's a tie between Mean Mug and Milk and Honey for best coffee in Chattanooga...

    (5)
  • Chris W.

Wow - some of the best coffee and breakfast sandwiches we've ever had. The prosciutto biscuit was incredible as we're out coffees. I'm so glad we stopped into this place while in Chattanooga.

    (5)
  • Ali R.

The coffee was really good. I specifically wanted to sit and work for a few hours and this was not the best place for that. Every table was full and I couldn't find an outlet to plug my computer into. However, several people came in and ordered coffee to go and I noticed very quick friendly service. I think this would be a great place to talk or meet people but not good for working individually on a laptop. I would definitely go back with friends.

Everything about this place was great. We happened upon it when we gave up in frustration waiting for a table at a restaurant up the street. Upon arriving at Mean Mug, however, we were promptly greeted, had our food order taken immediately, and our food arrived just a few minutes after that. I had the Florentine sandwich, which was delicious, and my son had the breakfast plate, which was also terrific. The cheese grits were phenomenal.Best of all was the coffee, which was dark and delicious. The setting was also very relaxed, and the boardgames a nice touch. My son and I played Sorry! while eating our food. We will definitely be back.

Mean Mug truly stands out from the other coffee shops in town. You can visit most other coffee shops (even the big chains) and your drink quality is inconsistent, partly because you may have a different barista each time. Mean Mug has only a handful of employees, and they are all trained by Velo Coffee, which is a local outstanding coffee roaster. The drinks here are consistently great. Also, the employees are always super friendly (not fake happy) and are always patient. Not only do they know my name, but they strive to be personal and know everybody's name. You can also tell they enjoy each other, which overflows to good customer service. Add in a cozy environment, and a great patio area, and you really do have a unique coffee shop that stands apart from the rest.

    (5)
  • Ted W.

I only got to stop in once but the coffee was exceptional and the decor made me feel at home. Go here if you love coffee and bikes.

    (5)
  • Sam L.

Got a recommendation to check tis place out by my barber and decided to make the trip today. This is a very nice place with a calm, quiet environment that is really conducive to winding down. My biggest complaint about a lot of coffee shops closer to UTC is all of the loud and obnoxious students that just want to sit around and talk philosophy so that everyone knows they are complex. Not here, though. Very relaxing. Their target demographic is a bit older which is nice. The coffee is good. Mine was a little weak but it's not a huge deal. Check it out if you're ever in the area, you'll probably like it.

The Mean Mug is everything I want in a local coffee shop. Great coffee, nice interior with a variety of spaces: tables, couches, etc. Enough tasty food items to make for a reasonable breakfast.

  • Ocean S.

Oh Yeah! Get off I-24 and give yourself a treat at the Mean Mug Coffeehouse. It's cool, it's hip, it's new and they do it well. Very inviting interior, great lattes, pour overs and excellent service. Take a seat outside or inside, on comfortable couches, table tops, or sit at the coffee bar. I've a whole new appreciation for the term rest stop, by making this a must stop just off I-24 in Southside Chattanooga, TN.

I frequent many coffee shops and this time on a short trip to Chattanooga I came across this shop as I wandered through the pretty art filled neighborhood. Expecting just another coffee shop, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and cheerful greeting (caffeine infused, i'm sure!). Learning that I wasn't a regular, she offered me a sample of any coffee I wanted. That was a big help, especially after having 2 not so great cups already that morning. Quiet area, and plenty of space in the shop to work or relax!

The Mean Mug is aptly named, both in the sense that the man behind the counter seemed to hate my guts at first glance and in the sense that he brewed one mean Americano (mmmm, Velo espresso). I am willing to overlook the former for the sake of the latter.

Serving Velo coffee and offering up fun conversation while doing so, even though my questions were boring and mundane, I.e. "what is there to do in this town at night". I'm a tourist, I crave constant stimulation. And there was nothing on TV. Anyway, the vibe is good, but I'd peg this place more food focused then coffee oriented, the cookie was truly bangin'. The beans I bought were only a couple days off roast, which means by the time I get home they'll be prime for my Chemex, and the cup of Guatemalan I walked out with a descent cup, bright, tasty, vibrant, and well deserved since I sent my project at Stone Fort and then lost a lot of skin chuffing off easy boulder problems and my hands hurt. Shut it, I'm a delicate flower. I digress... I'll likely be back here to sample some more of what they have to offer since Velo purveys such a nice product.

Recently moved to Chattanooga, and finding a favorite coffee shop was at the top of my to-do list. Mean Mug is it! The drinks are top-notch, service is friendly, and the atmosphere is quiet and casual. The perfect place to read, work, or chat. I wish they were open in the evenings!
