Me. Meh. Meh. Meh! Ugh. I'm a tough critic of Mexican, and Las Margaritas is one of the reasons why. My troop of rabble rousers out voted me because they were craving Mexican and this was close. Let me say I was not impressed. The space was dark, like really dark. I always have red flags fly up when a eatery is that dark. What are you hiding? Oh yeah! Your not so great fare and potentially unkempt dining area. My chiles rellenos were the type that were split open and laid on top of the white waxy stuff and...beans? Meat? I really have no idea. They aren't stuffed and certainly not fried. The best part of my meal? The chips and salsa. Yay. Mostly burritos were ordered by my dining associates and when I asked how things were, I got a lot of shrugs and "eh's." Our server was really having a better time hanging out in either the prep area or outside. Wherever he was, it wasn't tending tables. Anytime we need a drink refilled or another bottle of salsa, we had to flag someone down. Said someone would then proceed to yell (or holler if you're southern) for our waitperson. Waitperson would show up and go "Yeah?" Aaaaaaand he's gone. And after this experience, so am I.

Loved it. Great food. Waitress was super nice and live music was fabulous. We ordered the guacamole (twice since it was so good) and the cheese dip. Our boys loved the cheese dip since it was very mild and not hot or "green things" which our picky eater doesn't like. It was too runny/thin for me and made for a messy table. We got a pitcher of margaritas which was fantastic. We all liked our food. Typical real Mexican food. Good portions. Wish they would have jalapeño cream cheese sauce since that is my new Mexican favorite but the red and cheese sauces were good on my burrito. Our favorite part of the experience was the live music. Six person band singing folk rock. Great mix with Indigo Girls, country, and southern tick favorites like Sweet Home Alabama. ***be sure to go on Wednesday so you don't miss the live music. I think that is the only night for music each week.

Was planning on having an exceptional meal and except for the meal it was. Chimichanga was average, service was haphazard and clumsy and music too loud for the small space. Not a good experience, food was ok but banal, slightly dissapointing.

Wednesday nights, Priscilla & Little Rickee have been rockin this Mexican joint for over 20 years. You'll see local business owners, community leaders, educators, old skool, and new skool all swayin to the music over a couple margaritas. And the cheese dip is notorious.

I have been there a couple of times. The food always comes out hot and fresh. The prices are reasonable. Great open air environment with friendly staff.

Terrible, but par for the course when it comes to Chattanooga Mexican food. My review of everything I've eaten there, over several unfortunate meals: Questionable, greasy meat and wilted vegetables in a one-size-fits-all cheese load. I suggest choosing a different ethnicity for your dinner tonight!

Taco Bell with a bar. Not authentic at all. If you want a plate of metalic tasting red sauce on top of tasteless cheese covered mush you will find it here. On top of that the margaritas are so bad there should a restraining order against this place for using the word Margarita on the sign....

We avoided this place for months because of the many poor reviews until some visiting friends shamed us for not trying out the neighborhood Mexican place for ourselves. We should have kept our distance. We arrived at about 12:20 for lunch. Admittedly, it was Cinco de Mayo, but it was not particularly crowded inside. I ordered the "Speedy Gonzales" (a taco and an enchilada), which is, I'm fairly certain, generally one of the simplest things on an American Mexican menu. My husband ordered carnitas, apparently the day's special. At about 1:10, the server promised our food would be right out. I'm 99% certain that's when she put our order in. When it came out, it was wrong (beef instead of cheese enchilada), and, more importantly, it was bad. Everything was bland and dry. I was pretty darned disappointed to have wasted a long lunch away from work on such bad food. Especially since what I really wanted was the cheese enchilada that never came. Though we live just around the corner, we won't be back. We'll stick to burgers and pasta.

We ended up here after Tremont Tavern, across the street, was standing room only and we were starving. The big beers are cheap and the margaritas, while small, are strong, but those are the only good things I can honestly say about this place and why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. Well, I guess the service was OK. The food came out hot and quickly like most authentic-ish Mexican restaurants. Unfortunately, the food was not good. At all. My husband ordered the Burrito Gigante with chicken, and for some reason they use chunk chicken instead of pulled. It looked and tasted like it was straight out of a can from the grocery store's clearance aisle. I ordered the vegetarian option A, which was a cheese enchilada, a bean burrito and a chalupa. I'm not sure how you can screw up a bean burrito, but it was disgusting. It had a faint chemical taste to it, and the tortilla was hard--as though it were stale. The enchilada was OK, but not great. Kind of bland. I didn't even touch the chalupa. Save your money and your stomach and go somewhere--anywhere--else.

Eating chiles poblanos at Las Margaritas brought back a traumatic memory from first grade - I was sitting in the school cafeteria, chewing some mac and cheese, when I realized, "Oh my god. This is cheese, and I hate it." The cheese that was drowning my chiles was that exact same, one-grade-lower-than-government-cheese cheese that I ate in first grade and vowed to never eat again. Thanks an effin' lot, Las Margaritas. But here's the thing, I don't blame LM. I blame you, Chattanooga! I know that LM is just giving the people what they want, because I tasted the same awful cheese in my husband's quesadilla at La Altena. And while I love and cherish cheese more than any other food, I'm not above Velveeta and other processed cheeses. I'm telling you, this is way worse, and I'm guessing that it's on most of the dishes. So, avoid the cheese. The rest of the experience was okay. The staff is nice. I believe the patio probably has a lovely view, though we got to enjoy the funky, art deco interior. My frozen margarita came from a Snoopy Sno-cone machine, which is to say that it was very high-fructose sweet and just fine. The salsa is quite mild. We asked for hot sauce and received a dark red salsa chock full of pepper seeds - flaming! I respect that.

I'll admit first that I may be over-rating the place. A long, food-less day filled with house-hunting and soul-searching can lower expectations. First, Parking--at 8pm on a Thursday evening, the tiny parking lot was overflowing, as were most available parallel spaces on the narrow street running past the restaurant--2/5. Atmosphere--the restaurant's in the second story of a building which houses several businesses. They have a large, pleasant seeming outdoor patio. Inside, while nothing stellar, the place has plenty of nooks and booths which make things seem somewhat cozy--4/5. Service--the staff was super friendly and extremely attentive. No complaints--5/5. Food--The menu's large enough, primarily covering the standards, with several vegetarian friendly options for those who care. Tip: if you don't want to eat meat, but you're still looking to make your heart angry, try the taquitos--mashed potatoes and cheese rolled into a tortilla and deep fried. Bliss and shame all rolled into one crunchy little package--3.5/5 Margaritas--I didn't have one, so I can't say. One member of the party, when asked what he thought, only replied, "Well, I don't know that I've ever had a bad margarita." So, We'll say 3/5. Overall, I give Las Margaritas 3.5/5 stars. I'll have to try it again sometime, and if my opinions change, an update will follow.

Good servicable standard fare. Nothing special or really that authentic but they do have a nice deck and it will do if you just gotta have mexican and don't have anywhere else to go.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
