Most consistent and quality Mexican restaurant. Best food in this area for this style. Great service.

It's nothing fancy, but what do you expect from a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall? El Monterrey serves reliably tasty food. The margaritas are also extremely pleasant. Service was friendly and welcoming on our recent visit, and we left full and with leftovers to enjoy the next day.

Very bland food - fajitas were just fried meat, beans, and rice. No flavor profile like spice, heat, or sides to add into the dish. Price for a lunch was too much for what is boring and bland.... Even the tortilla chips were store bought versus a homemade simple flavor. Avoid...I wish I had but my yelp app would not load and took a risk.

Nice little Mexican spot Atlantans will find similar to our El Aztecas. The chips and slightly spicy salsa are almost exactly the same. Stopped in for lunch and was greeted warmly- seems to be the sort of typical mostly family staffed casual place that are all around. While there are lunch specials I wasn't super hungry, so I went with a standby, a taco al carbon. The steak was perfectly seasoned; while the sour cream with it was a good touch, just having it and shredded lettuce is a bit different to me. Everything I saw others having (mostly your usual combo plates, burritos, enchiladas etc) looked good. There are several things I would try on future visits, like the fajitas (they have any combo you want and the veggies in the veg option sound particulatly good) and the chicken, spinach, onion and mushroom queasadillio (it has a name but I forget) sounds delicious. It's in the WalMart shopping, on the side where McAlister's deli etc are, so a little tucked away in back corner. Prices are average to a little steep for some things ($2 for a side of shredded cheese? No, thanks.) And if you are in the Signal Mtn Rd away, a good spot.

We have been to El Monterrey several times and have never been disappointed. The food and drinks are always good. The service is friendly and quick. The prices are reasonable. This is our default place to go when we want Mexican food. Nothing fancy, but reliable good food in a pleasant atmosphere.

I'm always searching for yummy Mexican food close to home. My uncle was in town visiting and he wanted to grab a meal before heading to Nashville to catch his flight back to L.A. So we came here for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon. The interior is......unique...for the area. Vibrant colors and interesting chairs and booths (smiling suns, tucans, etc) Something you would be more likely to see in New Mexico and Arizona....not bad...maybe a little cheesy. The menu is fairly large...and I searched it over trying to find nachos...only to not find them on the large menu. When the waitress came by to drop off the chips and salsa, she pointed out the nachos were on the table menu off to the side...where appetizers and the like were. I ordered supreme nachos, and they had the option of either corn or flour tortilla chips. I am kind of a sucker for the flour tortilla chips...so it was settled. My Uncle settled on a combo plate with a beef enchilada and a chile relleno stuffed with beef as well. While we waited, we munched on the chips and salsa. The chips were a little lackluster...maybe a bit stale ( but it was late in the afternoon...kind of after lunch but before dinner...so this could be the reason for that) The salsa was pretty tasty. It had a slight kick but nowhere near hot or spicy. It was also sort of thin...but not in a bad way. Onto the food... my nachos were pretty good...I'd say fairly average but not bad. They put the yummy queso on the bottom of the plate, I am assuming to not have chips sliding all over the place while delivering...but I would have appreciated it being on top more, considering it was difficult to get cheese onto the chips. The ground beef on the nachos was good...and it also had refried beans, shredded lettuce, sour cream and guacamole. Now I LOVE good guacamole...and this one was ...meh... I am not a huge fan of cilantro (ok ok I HATE cilantro...I always request that they leave excess cilantro off of my dishes) and this guac had a TON of cilantro in it. When it was mixed up it wasn't as bad, but I personally wouldn't order the guac appetizer knowing this. All in all, I would order nachos there again. My uncle seemed to really enjoy the beef enchilada, and the rice and beans also on his plate...and he didn't dislike the chile relleno...he just said it tasted more boiled or steamed ...than the way he was used to eating them (normally fried) He cleaned his plate so it obviously wasn't bad...just not exactly what he was expecting. The service was nice and friendly. The restaurant only had a couple of filled tables and she took care of us well, all while also attending to her sidework. Again...it isn't bad and prices are comparable to other mexican restaurants in the area. I'll return

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
