I loved this place. The food was great, service was fast, and the people couldn't have been any friendlier. Our server, Star, was super nice. I wish we lived closer to this great little diner!

After walking in through the hotel parking lot and unimpressive facade, we were pleasantly surprised when we were greeted by a tightly packed (not especially crowded, just narrow) diner. We waited just a few seconds wedged between two astounding dessert cases and the cash register and were then led to our booth as a gaggle of tweens rocked out to Bieber on the retro-techie touch-screen juke box. I headed over and selected some Chuck Berry (to restore the Back to the Future vibe) and some Carrie Underwood for my daughters. As mentioned, the menus are massive, and I'll add slightly confusing to the point of distraction. But no matter, the overcrowded menu just feels like the voice of experience. Like they've simply kept everything they've tried and somebody liked, and the menu just keeps growing. I had the Flounder Dinner, but there were an array of salads, steaks, greek fare (gyros and such), Italian, vegetarian, burgers, sandwiches, stir fry, and who knows what else. Service was friendly and utterly competent, and the food was not special, but it was tasty and plentiful. I really wished I ate sugar, because the cakes looked amazing, and if they tasted like they looked - that rotating glass display case was like a massive, multiple-warhead sweetness bomb - I'm guessing I might have had to add a star to this review. But alas, I resisted temptation. So a good experience and a satisfying, if unremarkable meal. I'd go back someday, but not until I've tried some of the other places in town.

Wide variety on the menu and food was good. Definitely be back!

Huge selection of food. Extended wait time due to small cafe and large Sunday brunch crowd. Reasonable prices and large portions.

It's a perfectly consistent experience. The service is never SUPER great, the food is never OVERWHELMINGLY amazing, but it's consistently good enough. Like the McDonald's of diners, you know visit to visit you are going to get something that is consistent. The menu is vast, and all of the options are prepared with equal skill. There's no real specialty, it's all large portions of acceptable food. The cake is a glutenous proportion of ok enough cake. Day or night, when you want a comfortably consistent dining experience, check out City Cafe.

I don't understand why the downtown City Cafe diner does so poorly in ratings. The food is far superior to this Eastside version. They didn't get our order right until everybody was pretty much done. And believe it or not the one item that took the most time was a simple plate of french fries. . And the burgers were pre shaped, like flowers, meaning they were obviously frozen and not fresh. This used to be a great place to eat, but obviously has gone very much downhill.

Absolutely love this place! We were in town for a conference and went twice in the same day! Big portions, reasonable prices, expansive menu, great service. If you like quirky diners with stainless steel and neon- this place is a gem. Will define steely return!

We had breakfast which was typical diner fare - so pretty good. Took them 3 tries to get my omelet right and several of our other orders came put wrong. Bathrooms weren't that clean either.

Great food, great service, great portions. From the front of the house to the back, everyone was kind and curtious.

Deeeeeeee-licious!!! Probably some of the best breakfast I've had in awhile. From the outside it doesn't look the most appealing but thankfully we looked past that and decided to give it a go. Literally everything we ate was good. Omelettes, great. Quesadilla omelette, fantastic. I didn't taste the burrito omelette but my two friends loved it. All the breakfast dishes came with home fries or grits. I had the home fries and they were great as well. Biscuits, absolutely 100% delicious. Waffles, also really good. I think you get the point. Check this place out.

I ate there for the first time yesterday, service was great, everyone greeted me and were very friendly, they must have changed their menu because I saw where one reviewer wrote about seafood and chicken pot pie, I didn't see those on the menu I was given, I saw a lot of sandwiches and wraps and also salads, one dinner they did have was chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy, which was very good, didn't order a salad because it was extra, and like a lot of restaurants now days, you don't get a refill on your drink. I thought $13.44 was a little high for one glass of sweet tea, mashed potatoes and chicken fried steak, but like I said, the food was good, so I would go back.

Ridiculously large portions that no one could really eat, but they're yummy! It's super good for a diner and they have these unreal cakes that are about 2 feet tall- that's not even an exaggeration

If you're looking for an affordable selection that has something for EVERYBODY, then this is the place to go around Chattanooga. The friendly, attentive service and an unbelievable selection of delicious homemade cakes make it worth the visit for sure. They've got American, Mexican, Italian, and Greek food. I had a chicken gyro and Greek salad, while my wife and older daughter shared fettuccine alfredo. The food was good, with no real complaints, but it wasn't excellent. This is my reason for giving it 4 stars. The selection, service, and desserts are 5 star. I'd go again, especially if it's later and other places are closing for the night. Also, show up with a big appetite - the portions are very large. Overall, a big thumbs up!

Apparently there are 2 City Cafe Diner's in Chattanooga. This review is for the one attached to the Best Western at the intersection of Bonny Oaks & Lee Hwy. The City Cafe Diner is open 24 hours and shares a building with the Best Western located at exit 7 or 7A off of interstate 75. This turned out to be an impressive place; the variety of the menu is astounding. I took a carry out menu home with me and am looking at it now. The menu includes: 9 types of salads, to which you can add 6 types of meat Soups Chili Triple Decker Sandwiches Wraps, Traditional Sandwiches, Hot Italian Parmigiana Sandwiches Burgers Chicken Specialties Greek Specialties Side Dishes Stir Fry Seafood Specialties Ribs, Steaks, Pork Chops Italian Dishes Mexican Dishes Any Breakfast imaginable, plus Low Carb & Low Cal Selections Cakes The tuna sandwich is exceptional. It is not drowning in onions like a lot of tuna, so it is a big hit with me. The chef is generous with portions. A half sandwich seemed like a meal and a half. The in-season vegetables consisted of green and yellow zucchini plus carrots. They were delicious and not dull at all like vegetables usually are. As with the diner menu, the cake selection was enormous. There were so many cakes I lost count. Among them was a cake called a Coca Cola Cake. The presentation was lovely. The cakes were so beautifully displayed, I wanted them all. Finally I caved and had a slice of the Mint Chocolate. It was so good and very generously sized. Whoops, almost forgot to mention that the service was outstanding. Also, the restaurant does not serve hard liquor, but I do believe there is wine, and possibly beer, but I am not sure. Oh, I do love this place. The service, food, and selection are excellent! I managed to photograph the cake display, but honestly, my photo does not do it justice. Day or night, it's actually very dark in there.

Food = Excellent! Service = Stellar! (our servers name was Star. "stellar" - get it?) Prices = Very reasonable Atmosphere = Warm, cozy, inviting. Easy on / off from I-75. We will definitely be back!

City cafe by Best Western - open 24 hours great menu selection GREAT FRIENDLY STAFF - Stumble upon it and thrilled i did stopped in not knowing what expect and gave them 5 stars If you love chocolate the chocolate suicide is worth the trip - rich creamy - completely decadent

My wife and I have been going there since we moved down to Chattanooga. The food is absolutely fantastic and the staff is great. Only complaint I have is the decaf coffee is pretty weak, but since most people drink hi-test, I'm not taking a mark off for that. The cakes are amazing and they now identify vegetarian selections on their menu. The menu is huge and varied. You have to try this place!

The service wasn't that good. Food took forever to come. The Greek side of the menus is just plain disgusting. My corned beef hash was kinda burnt def not the way I like it. Would I come back no not really. The food didn't make me think wow amazing this is great diner food. It was 3 am my husband got off of work and we were hungry. Let's just say we were still hungry after that

Holy smokes Batman! This was awesome...not only was the food great but the atmosphere and service was right on. We went Greek, it was a hard choice with a side of biscuit s and gravy (which is vegetarian). Don't let the location or outward appearance fool you. This is a must stop!

  • Yvonne K.

I give them 5 stars because it is so close to your northern diners I was used to. The menu is massive.Everything looks appetizing and well presented. The desserts are amazing even if they are not made in house. Yes it is typical diner food at it's best! Large portions and usually left overs. Dessert portions large enough to share if you can make a decission on just one!

Here's the skinny- this place rocks! Great service , incredible food , and huge portions. It's more about quality than quantity for me- this had both and you should go! Great breakfasts!

Hiding inside the Best Western lobby is the City Cafe. It is open 24 hours, and we showed up hitting the after church lunch crowd. No matter, we were sat, served, paid and back on our road trip under a half an hour. Friendly service, fair priced food, and "diner" type atmosphere. They have an extensive menu, but we stuck to breakfast. It almost felt like the Cheesecake Factory with how large the menu was and the choices of desserts. I highly recommend this place for a quick good place to eat while riding through Chattanooga.

My second time here. Had the Cuban Reuben. The best!! Waitress was very good and very engaging. Again, a wonderful experience. Wish this place was in my home town. I would eat here all the time!

Little tricky to get to, it's part of a hotel. 6:30 pm on a Monday and got right in. Had BBQ Burger with fries. Burger was huge and a mount of fries. Excellent food and service. Had a piece of Reece Peanut butter cake to go. Save room for desert, it's a must!

I had dinner on Tuesday at this City Café (CC) location. This is the second time I have been here but have been at the one downtown off Market and Chestnut a number of times. First of all if you are hungry, you will get more food than you probably want at CC. This location is at a Days Inn with plenty of off street parking and is right off the freeway. They have both booths and tables with carpeted floor. I went with my daughter and grandbaby and the place was almost empty but they put us way back in a booth in the corner which we did not like. We asked to move up to a booth closer to the light (LOL). The waitress agreed, however after we moved, the hostess came over and they spoke back and forth in spanish and then left. Next the "manager" came over and said we had to move because it is a fire hazard to have a high chair in the aisle and if the fire department came in he would be fined $5000.. yada yada yada. So we said OK then put us at a table.. which they finally did. I ordered a hamburger and fries.. it was so so .. typical frozen burger and fries to me are bland... My daughter had fried shrimp with mash potatoes. She did not care for it and the shrimp was obviously from a bad of cheap frozen shrimp. My grandbaby LOVED her mac and cheese LOL so it was not a complete loss. Oh they do have a full bar but did not try it. OK the food was so so, the floor was gross and the overall appearance was dated and dirty. I did not appreciate the staff talking in front of us AND about us in Spanish --- and I certainly thought the manager could have suggested an alternative instead of telling me his financial concerns. Our waitress was very nice and attentive so that was a positive. I like the one downtown much better and will not come back to this one again... it gets a 1.. I don't give many 1s or 5s.

Great service, humongous menu, unbelievably large portions and pretty good food. We ate at the downtown location a few times when we moved here but never this location, even though we live in Ooltewah. We went all of 2014 without a City Cafe meal and decided yesterday that we missed it. I had the fried catfish and have never seen catfish fillets as big as I got. Before taking a bite, I figured it couldn't be catfish-somehow it was though. I chose the seafood bisque to go with my meal and it was excellent. This is a fun place to go to that I don't know why I skipped all of last year.

I normally visit the downtown location but this location is near my work. BF and I were driving around on the 4th of July and decided to have a nice breakfast. I have only ever had breakfast food at City Cafe, because why ruin a great thing? I love the City Cafe special because you get a bit of everything, even pancakes. I love pancakes. Just like downtown, they have good food for great prices. Never a bad thing.

Beautiful deserts. The pictures say it all. If you have a sweet craving, this is your jam. The case is full of masterpieces and the staff has lots of pride in its creations.

I found this cafe because it's just down the street from McKays, and I trust my fellow yelpers! Me and 5 friends went there late at night, and had a BLAST! 24/7 all food served, with great desserts. I decided to spend way to much money on food and share it with everyone, as well as what other people at the table ordered, trying everything of each others things. We got there and was greeted immediately with great service and smiles, and we got our drinks started. Our waitress was very patient and nice to my table of 6 hyper active young adults. It was quite the event. Half the table got sweet tea (we are from Georgia) got myself a diet coke and my brother got a hot chocolate. That came in a super fancy cup with whip and all, and my brother drank every drop, loving it. The first round of food, one friend got the sea food bisque. Most loved it, and I liked it, but you have to LOVE seafood and fish. I personally thought it was too fishy but we all have different tastes. My next friend got calamari and holy cannoli it was fantastic. Everyone who tried it loved it, my friend had to fight for her plate. I ordered 2 plates of garlic bread for the table, as well as mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks were fantastic! Both bread and cheese sticks came with an awesome marinara sauce, as well as the calamari. Garlic bread was super crunchy, but really good! My 3rd friend ordered chocolate pancakes with chocolate chips and it was as awesome as it sounds, withs eggs and bacon. My brother ordered chicken tender appetizer (3 tenders and sauce for $3.95 btw) and the pizza burger. He loved it as well. There fries are really good. Like really really good. I ordered the chicken pot pie. I thought $12 was a bit much, but then my waitress brings out an ENTIRE PIE. It was seasoned to perfection and literally one of the best pot pies I have ever eaten. More then worth the money for that and the sides. I gave my soup and salad to my other friend who didn't have much money to order, and he loved the raspberry vinaigrette salad and seafood bisque. And the reason I was so willing to give away and share all this delicious food was to try desserts. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm there desserts. I think the highlight was the apple crumble cheesecake my brother ordered. It was HEAVENLY. HEAVENLY I TELL YOU! I ordered 2 desserts and 6 forks, if that tells you anything lol! I got the strawberry cheesecake, which was lovely. Very basic, but very well done and pretty. Also, I ordered the midnight craving chocolate cake. I have mixed feelings about this cake. As a chocolate cake it was really good. However, I could taste the Betty Crocker tub frosting, and box mix chocolate cake. So honestly I was disappointed. If I wanted premixed I could have paid what I did for the ingredients at Walmart and made it myself. So I was completely disappointed by that, but not enough to bump it down to 4 stars. Over all the food was rockin, delicious and well worth it. While sometimes the prices seemed a bit much, you always had more then enough food for the price. We got several to go boxes, and had a grand, fun time. Truly. We will definitely be back. Also if you were the couple giving my table dirty looks reading this, it was midnight you should reevaluating your life choices having a 2 year old with you at a diner, not us. I'm just saying.

Great little diner attached to the front of a hotel. Huge portions, low prices. Definitely recommend for a good, large meal. Try the omelette or the Greek fare.

"The Best Mexican Food In Tennessee" Upon my arrival and check in at the Best Western Heritage Inn, I noticed a steady stream of traffic at the City Cafe Diner, at all hours of the day and night. After working up an appetite, I decided to give this place a try. My first meal was the chicken fried steak. Prior to ordering this meal, I spent a whole day traveling, dealing with the TSA, airport congestion and the other obstacles encountered with cross country travel. Needless to say, I was very hungry. I almost finished the plate. It was absolutely delicious. I ended up taking all of my meals at the City Cafe Diner, during my three day visit to Chattanooga. On my last day in town, I asked the waitress, if their Mexican food was any good. I ordered the chicken chimichanga. It came with rice, black beans, salsa and guacamole. And on top, was some amazing sauce. This was by far, the best Mexican meal I ever had.

Flavorless home fries and eggs. The waffles and pancakes were good, but nothing special. Maybe their desserts and other items make up for this shortfall, but I wouldn't come back to try another thing. Disappointed. Location is at a local motel. Definite old diner vibe.

Just a diner but very popular and unusual to be in small best western loby. But the draw here is the cake case-- about 50 different cakes!! open 24 hours

Usually, about every two weeks, i, along with friends have gone there for a light night meal. This week's experience has definitely influenced our decision as to never return to this place. It wasn't so much the food, which sometimes can be just as good, as it can be bad: but our problem last night was with an employee, and the management. On of our friends had to return an it back to the kitchen due to an error. More about the error further in the story. The server returned s few minutes later with the corrected item. But then, about five minutes after that, he approached my female friend from the rear, and without any warning to her, or to anyone else, he placed both of his hands of n her shoulders, hugging her neck, leaned into her, pressing his body up against hers, and leaning over to whisper in her ear. This unwelcomed action of the server was not only an invasion of my friends personal space, it was a public display of harassment! My friend, startled by this advancement, told him to get the "f" away, which he did. The manager came and asked if there was a problem. The managers response to the problem was neither apologetic, nor appeared to be serious to warrant discipline on the server. Based upon this event, our group will never return to this establishment, nor will I return there as part of my regular place to eat out! As my friend has several witnesses to this event, I suggest the manager contact me so she can be offered a more satisfying resolution for the inappropriate actions of both the server and the lack of concern from the night manager.

Need to find a greek diner like in metro DC or New York. Here it is! open around the clock. Order anything you can think of as they will prepare. Most dishes will feed 2 so plan to share or take out. Don't forget the oversized cakes and pies for desert. Plan to take home for later. City Cafe offers decadent indulgence of comfort food for many genres of food. If you want to dine casually and always be satisfied, try it.

My boyfriend and I stopped here just passing through hoping to get breakfast (was a little before 8pm) and they had it! All day they do so I was thrilled to get a waffle and it was wonderful. My boyfriend had the Mexican omelette I think it was called and wow it was flavorful and big portion!! Had to also take a couple pieces of pie home and again big size and delicious! Thanks for making our night special :) recommend!

I know a lot of people really like this place. And I mean a lot. Me? Not so much. Let me preface by saying of all the times I've been here, I've not once had bad service. The staff has always been kind and prompt. For this reason alone, they get a two stars instead of one. My challenges have all stemmed from food quality. The menu here is huge. In fact, I don't see how this place doesn't lose profits from an overly large menu. First, it takes time to go through all the options, which means you can't turn a table as quickly. Second, the overhead to ensure you have everything on hand to create all of the menu items seems like a lot of waste happens. I also think their pricing is a little high given the quality of food. But I digress. About the food. I prefer to taste my food and I really appreciate when food is fresh and the temperatures are correct. I don't think there is much by way of "fresh" in this establishment. I have a suspicion most things come from the freezer or bags. The bread has always tasted off and slightly moldy. (No visible mold, just the stale flavor of mold.) The last time I ate here, I ordered a stuffed flounder only to have it served raw. And I do mean RAW. The shrimp stuffing was still visibly blue for crying out loud. Any cook worth their salt should have seen it was still blue and not plated it. But it was what happened next that I put my foot down and said I'll never be back again. I sent my order back to the kitchen, and by the time it returned - ON THE SAME PLATE - the veggies I ordered with it were cold. Not only that, the whole filet was chopped to pieces where they kept cutting into it to see if it was cooked through. So instead of a whole stuffed filet, I got a chopped-up filet with stuffing chunks scattered about. It was obvious the plate with my veg just sat there waiting for the fish to cook and went tepid instead of serving me a new plate. (I say "by the time it returned" because the group I was with was mostly finished eating when my plate finally returned.) This is also one of the only places I know that can somehow simultaneously serve flavorless, raw, crunchy potatoes that have a charred outside. I stopped eating breakfast here years ago because properly cooked potatoes seem to elude them. I even spoke to a manager once about this fact and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "sorry." The desserts are alright if you're into those types of things. I'm not much of a sweets person. I can tell you that they order these from an outside vendor and it is probably the safest thing on the menu to eat. The atmosphere is a bit passe, but I think that's they way it's supposed to be. So in the long run, I won't be back due to one to many missteps with flavor, quality, and temperature. But if you don't mind that and want a little something for everyone at a higher price than a few better options around, then this place is for you!

We stopped by on our way to Chattanooga this morning for something quick. I was looking for something outside of a chain restaurant and after looking at reviews settled on this place. Overall we were not impressed. I got the Greek omelet and both the feta and onions were cold while the tomatoes were runny. The potatoes lacked any seasoning. My husband ate his corned beef hash with eggs but said it wasn't anything to write home about. The service was good and quick which was what we were really looking for this morning, but we probably won't be coming back.

I love southern hospitality. My mom accidentally left her purse at the table and we walked out of the restaurant. The waiter ran after us and brought the purse back as we were pulling out of the parking space. Crisis averted. Thank you so much to the waiter for your honesty and integrity. As far as the food goes, it's your typical diner food but it's hot, quick, and good. Nothing really to write home about though. I've had the fiesta omelet both times I've been here. Multiple types of meat, veggies, and jalapeños - everything you need to cure a hangover and prepare for an 11 hour drive home. Not to mention the to go coffees - awesome for the road warrior.

This is average diner food with big portions and a friendly staff. It is 24 hours and runs out of a hotel. The cakes are huge.

I visited this place while visiting my brother and his wife in TN. He tells me this is his favorite place to eat and goes here quite often. The atmosphere was nice despite the nondescript facade. It seemed very clean in the restaurant but there was a very strange smell in the hotel hall on you way to the restroom (not sure if I would stay there). All the portions seemed very generous. I ordered the garden omelet with hash browns on the first trip and a garden salad + a side of dolmathes the next trip. The omelet and dolmathes were delicious and the salad very fresh. The honey mustard dressing was standard, not so great. My brother tried the spinach pie and next trip eggplant parm. Other orders were dolmathe plate, quesidilla omelet and all reports were thumbs up. Cakes are huge!

I love New York style Cafe's. There are 2 locations in Chattanooga. Both are connected to hotels. Don't let that turn you away. 1 location is downtown. The other is in northeast Chattanooga. If you have ever eaten @ The Marietta Diner in Georgia. This place is the same. Giant portions. The menu is endless. Theres a low calorie section/ Vegetarian. I've been here a few times Spinach Pie is amazing. All the club sandwiches are great. Last night I tried the Chicken Parm. 2 giant chicken breast over some very tasty pasta served with an excellent greek salad and garlic bread. If your ever in the area and have somewhere to pass out after eating so much great food. This is the place. Plus they are open 24 hours. The cakes spinning are about a foot tall. I never have room for a slice.

EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT! ! ! ! As being one who doesn't find restaurants that are usually satisfying, this was an absolute wonderful experience. We at here several times during our visit at different hours and were always extremely pleased. We had breakfast, dinner and lunch on various days. They were ALL excellent! Food was DELICIOUS, service was prompt, very courteous and hassle free. Everyone we talked with was pleasant and helpful. If you enjoy desserts (cakes) they offer gigantic slices of homemade type cakes and pies. The portions are much too large for one. If you are someone who remembers and enjoys typical "diner" fare just like they serve in the New Jersey - New York areas, you will like this place.

The stuffed chicken is to die for!! The stuffed salmon is as equally appetizing! It appears to be a little pricy but not for the amount of food you are getting...it's enough for 2. I'm so glad I found (err, my husband found) this place. I've tried the two mentioned dishes thus far and look forward to trying the rest of this menu! I'm local, so I consider myself lucky. I can't really comment much on the service, only that, it was standard, "diner" service...polite but nothing to write home about....but the food is far better than your run of the mill food chain! Highly recommend!

My first review of this place. Came here once with a group, late night, about 11 or midnight.. I know how groups are hated (i've worked in restaurants too), but they quickly seated us. there was some confusion on who was taking our order so it took a few minutes, like 10, before anyone waited on us. however, when they did, they were really nice. the lady chatted with us a little and apologized even though she looked pretty tired. I had a burger and it hit the spot (juicy). portions are big.. hope you have room. pretty much like the diners back home (atlanta, marietta) with some greek looking folks running it and HUGE mouthwatering cakes. (oreo looked the best). although i didn't see any shakes on the menu. I usually have a rule that I don't write a review after only 1 visit, but i've been breaking it lately because life's too short to go back somewhere you only kinda like. I like this place and i'll be back for more.

several visits have made City Cafe on Bonny Oaks Drive one of our breakfast favorites! HUGE portions for very reasonable prices & service that keeps up with our needs. I'm a vegetarian & my boyfriend is definitely a carnivore! we both leave very satisfied! plus the cake display that makes us drool

I've never been treated like such trash and am never coming back to Chattanooga ever again after the experience we had at The City Cafe Diner. Had a great time in the city, but was ruined by this awful place. Mean people.
