My wife and I visited for lunch and were pleased to find a seat on the deck overlooking Coolidge Park. The weather was great for late May so we decided to order some craft beers and the antipasti plate. The beers were served perfectly chilled and the selections on the antipasti plate were not only tasty but quite generous. My wife order the duck burger for her entree and I had the salmon BLT. The duck burger was very well prepared, but a little messy to eat. It was a little too greasy for her taste but the flavor was very good. The salmon BLT was one of the best sandwiches I have ever ordered in a restaurant. The ample serving of pastrami cured salmon was perfectly cured and played well with the crisp bacon. I would go back again and again just for this sandwich. Service was attentive without being pushy. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and we will certainly be back when we are in Chattanooga.

I've had a few of their cocktails now and they are top-notch. They also have really wonderful service and incredible beef jerky.

We ordered the meat, cheese & cracker appetizer, and the meat was lukewarm, which was disappointing. Our sandwiches were ok, nothing outstanding. We chose the cheesesteak, pulled pork w/mustard slaw & a sliced pork sandwich w/cilantro. It was very dry. The side of Parmesan fries were huge & good. The pesto orzo salad was very bland & needs some more spices. I will say the portions were large and the prices were very reasonable. This place defiantly has some potential, and the things recommended to us, such as the crab cakes and duck burger, were not thinks we like anyway.

My husband and I got very lucky when we happened upon this place while exploring Chattanooga. The name alone made me curious, and I was not disappointed. The staff were great and helpful. Our server, Jesse, was very attentive and made great suggestions on food and beers. The menu was perfect, plenty of choices without being overwhelming. We ended up getting the single-wide appetizer. A delicious plate of fries smothered in cheese, meat, sauces and slaw and a sample of the jerky of the day as appetizers. I had the cheesesteak, which had the best flavor of any cheesesteak I've had, with the side of roasted beets, which were delicious. My husband had the pork chops, which were flavorful, thick and juicy, and the sides of Boursin polenta and broccoli rabe were great. Best part was how economical it all was, after an appetizer, two entrees, two beers, and dessert (which was heavenly btw) our bill was under $50. There wasn't a single complaint. I can't wait to go back!!

We went on Saturday Aug 2 for a late lunch and sat at the bar. The place was rather slow, as it was around 4:00 pm. There were approximately 10 people sitting at the bar, and none were not acknowledged for the 10-15 minutes we sat there. The bartender literally poured beers for the servers, with the taps directly in front of us, without even looking at us or speaking. He then proceeded to work on paperwork at the register and put glasses away. After this 10+ minute period, he finally acknowledged a party of 3 that we had not even realized had also not yet been served...and they were at the bar when we arrived. After experiencing this atrocious service, we left and wished good luck to the couple that arrived after us. This was my first visit to Beast and Barrel, and it may be my last. The male bartender working that day needs serious retraining or another profession. Hopefully this is just one bad employee that will get corrected and not representative of the establishment.

Love this spot. Urban charm but laid back feel. Unpretentious. Can't wait to try the Marrow plate. Food looks amazing. Tried a local brew & whiskey made of quinoa...not too shabby! Try the onion rings. A little spice drizzled with honey...perfect. I'm coming back!

For carnivorous foodies! Housemade charcuterie, ketchup, cheese...these guys do it all. The smoker was chugging along beside our table on the back deck. The charcuterie starter included smoked pulled pork, andouille sausage, dill havarti, pickled carrots, tangy grain mustard, pork jerky, among other tasty finds, and was delicious. Our waiter honestly recommended the peach honey mustard on the side of my southern belle fried chicken salad, thankfully, because the sweet emulsion would have ruined it. The green goddess dressing was a better match, but the salad would have benefited from an anchor lettuce such as Romaine or spinach--the fancy looseleaf lettuce was too airy to hold the nice strips of fried white meat chicken. My friend had a decadent pastrami sandwich on grilled bread with melted cheese with the awesome garlic parmesan fries. I really wanted to try the chick pea burger and would visit again to give it a go. This place is red meat friendly but thanks for the vegetarian option!

I don't hand out five stars lightly, but this place really has it all! They smoke their own meats in house, have great food, and a solid drink line up. I didn't peruse the cocktail and wine listings too closely, but I was really excited to see they offered MANY local beers, as well as a West TN and East TN beer flights! It's already on our list of places to go back to. Food wise there are numerous things we didn't get that I really want to try (duck burger, hello!), but we started with the Bill Brasky, roasted marrow w/ sunburst tomato gremolata and crostinis. The flavor was good, just was served in a much different manner than any other marrow I've had. We had to scrape it out of the inside of the bone. Not my favorite, but like I said, solid taste wise. For dinner, I had the Big Katz, which I couldn't recommend more. It was the best pastrami I've ever had. Here's the description (and appropriate): Beast pastrami marinated for 36 hours, smoked, steamed and hand cut. Flat grilled w/ our house made kraut, thousand island and swiss nestled between two pieces of rye. Noms. I tried the beast fries as my side, and I wasn't very impressed. They are shoestring fries with garlic and Parmesan on them. I'm not sure how I didn't like that, but they were just ok. I'd recommend trying one of their many other interesting sides instead (as I will next time). I also got to try a bite of the Fall Churrasco, which is marinated bone in pork chop char grilled w/smoked mushroom marsala sauce over boursin polenta served w/ sauteed broccoli rabe. I've never tasted pork cooked that perfectly before. And the polenta was amazing. The atmosphere is really cool, there's a large bar area, then seating both inside and out on the patio. They have large garage doors across the front of the venue, so if the weather is nice, they just roll them up! Parking wise, you have to drive all the way down and then go around the back of the complex to access the lot. It was a little confusing, so we had to turn around to figure it out. Basically go past the bridge, all the way down to the next street, then a right, then a right behind the building. Looked like it was free after 6pm, and not sure about weekends. Can't wait to go back and check this place out again!

This is a great little place, and if you're a carnivore, this is the place for you. We started off with lime-chili jerky, and it was really affordable and great. We had old fashions, and they were stout and well-made. They have a little bar menu of daily specials, including jerky and popcorn with different daily flavors. We had the burger and rib eye steak; the burger was cooked well, and the steak was good (though I like them a little more charred, esp. when the rib eye has so much fat on it). The atmosphere was nice and casual. My only complaint was that it was incredibly hot. We went in July, so it was hot all over town, so when you're sitting down for a dinner of mostly meat, you don't want to be sweating.

Injustice to their menu by calling themselves a "Gastropub". This place feature a beautiful menu of selections that rival any "fine dining" concept. Their products come from local farmers including grass fed meats which they smoke in house. They scratch make everything down to the ketchup! While visiting my hometown I dined here with 3 family members / we were all pleased with our meals. The service was great and we enjoyed sitting along the windows that gave us a perfect view of the comings and goings of all the movement downtown. Which is booming with life! The food was served hot, the portion sizes were great and the price point was very reasonable. I highly recommend this place.

Big, big fan of this brunch! My friends and I looked on a Chattanooga brunch blog and liked Beast and Barrel's thoughtful menu and website. We decided to give it a try, and arrived to a restaurant that's really cool. Their windows are garage doors that can create a patio like experience in nice weather, the napkins were quaintly knotted to hold the forks, and the brunch menu had savory appetizers to start. We got crab cakes that used a tasty corn breading for frying and included a mixed greens side. Since we were all debating which meals we should order for the sake of getting the side biscuit, the server brought us a biscuit plate. 5 stars for her great service, the amazing biscuits, and that superb cherry jam! Now for my meal I ordered the pastrami hash. It was two times too big after gorging on the biscuit and crab cakes, but a great meal. The pastrami was cut thick on top savory potatoes with eggs on top. My friends got the scariest looking brunch burgers I've ever seen. They were massive with a fried egg, bacon, sausage, and a big beef patty. They really liked the flavor, but were easily defeated half way through attempting to eat the whole burger. I ordered coffee, but this place had a Bloody Mary and infused bubbles bar for brunch drinks. They also had carafes you could order of various adult beverages. Fun! I want to go back again and again! My only complaint is this place needs more sweet menu options.

Okay, so I wanted to love this place! Farm to table concept is an always go to. But this place lacked flavor :( The beast fries were the only thing that made this a 2 star. Sadly, the garbanzo burger came out just warm, not fresh off the grill. The other bison burger (think that is the name) lacked flavor! The beans were almost inedible, so took a few tries and left them. I must say the waiter tried, but did not make up for the disappointing meal.

The other day, we happened to find ourselves in downtown Chattanooga around Happy Hour. As usual, I was starving. I had just finished a photo shoot for Pamela Greer Photography (my photography business) at Coolidge Park and was looking for something close by. We have eaten at Beast & Barrel before, but I didn't take any notes and other than remembering that I really, really liked it, I decided I needed to revisit. I love their happy hour menu, it is so simple and to the point. There are $3, $4, $5, and $6 offerings. You pick based on what you want to spend (and eat). The first thing we settled on were the $5 classical cocktail offerings. Hubs chose a negroni and I had a Pimm's Cup. Both were excellent and we thought the large round ice cubes were perfect - they kept the drink chilled, but melted slowly for less dilution. Even though there were plenty of tasty options on the Happy Hour: The Bill Brasky Marrow Plate, Cheesesteak Wit Wit, and Pulled Pork BBQ Sammy to name just a few, I had my heart set on The Big Katz. I had the Big Katz before and just needed to make sure it was every bit as good as I remembered. Along with my Big Katz, I wanted some Beast Fries. Everything was just as wonderful as I remembered. The sandwich is made with Beast Pastrami with has been marinated for 36 hours, smoked, steamed and hand cut. It is served with house made kraut and onions, cheese and thousand island dressing on a marbled rye bread. The bread was perfectly toasted, the meat tender and delicious, and the kraut was fantastic. The Beast Fries made an excellent accompaniment and makes me think all fries should be topped with garlic, parsley and Parmesan Cheese. We will definitely be back to try some of the Happy Hour options!! On a weird side note, they have the worst napkins ever. I didn't even know there was such a thing as horrible napkins, but there are, and they have them. I don't know what they are made of (I'm guessing some sort of polyester), but they are so rough. I ended up wiping my mouth with the back of my hand rather than using their napkins. Next time I will see if they have any paper cocktail napkins.

I first dropped in here for brunch and I wasn't disappointed. Their brunch menu is on par with other brunch locations in Chattanooga, but their brunch drinks really set them apart. Though you can only get their featured brunch cocktails by the carafe, they're well worth it if you're dining with at least one other person. Since that first brunch, I've been back numerous times for lunch, dinner and just drinks. I've never had a bad meal here, but I love them most for their craft cocktails. The cocktail menu is split up by before/during/after your meal, but you don't have to stick to their timing to enjoy them. The bartenders really know what they're doing, and if you want advice on trying a more adventurous cocktail they aren't likely to steer you wrong. Oh, and a note: From the outside it might seem that this is a place that requires a more upscale dress, but it's really not. I've seen people in here wearing anything from yoga pants to suits.

Dear Meat Lovers, Please go directly to B+B for an awesome cheesesteak. They call it the Cheesesteak wit wit; I call it big, meaty heaven on a bun. Huge. Really, like unless you haven't eaten for a day or so huge. I never finish a whole sandwich in one sitting - most take me two - this will be four intervals, I think. Delicious (housemade) meat. The cheese "wit" - mushrooms and onions. Just warmed but not toasted bread (perfect for eating later, since not all crispy/crunchy). Oh - and it's on their 3-6pm menu (every one of our seven days!) for $6 (reg is $10), and full size, with a side (get the fries, just trust me here). Since I had raspberries for breakfast and one quarter of the sandwich for my late lunch, I am going to see how much more I can tackle. Tonight . . . or for breakfast tomorrow. Go, eat, enjoy. You're welcome, CN [PS this sandwich got a re-bump to 4*]

Had the southern antipasto and it was good not great, but the sandwiches we got were amazing. The Big Katz is a must have when you go and the cheesesteak wit wit is probably the best cheesesteak I've ever had and that's hard to admit because I had a restaurant and we prided ourselves on our cheesesteak which was amazing too. This one is better I can admit it, not leaps and bounds but better.

The service was great and the ambiance was really nice. It was happy hour and apparently they make a different popcorn every day and we had ours with bacon and cheese, it's free during happy hour. There was a great beer selection and the menu looked really good, also kind of pricey. We had handmade jerky, which is a little unusual for a restaurant. The jerky had no flavor and was very difficult to chew. All in all we enjoyed our experience and would go back again.

We come to Chattanooga often. We try a different restaurant everytime we come. There are so many GREAT restaurants in the area and not enough time to get to them all, but we try. With that said, today is the first time we've been here. We had the Anti Pasta ap, Duck Burger, Steak Frite, Old Fashioned, Unusual Negroni, Smoke in the Water, and a few of the local brews. Britney was, and is currently, our server. She's AWESOME. The atmosphere is fantastic. The chef prepared our food perfect! Note: when asked what temp we wanted, we responded with Chef's Choice. The food, service, atmosphere, drinks...everything about this place is beyond anything anyone could put into expectations. You just made it to the top of our list for Best Places to Eat in the Southeast! Thanks for being here! We will most certainly be back!!!

My boyfriend and I ate here last night. I had a ground duck burger. Honestly it was the greatest burger I've ever had!! I had the duck burger-medium rare, with creamy goat cheese, and cherry compote! The bun was fresh and toasted. Everything about it was perfection. Their homemade ketchup was yummy! Prices were fair, and the service was really prompt and friendly for it being a Saturday night! I loved the decor it was rustic, yet classy. I felt a bit underdressed in my shorts and t-shirt. I hope to go back to try their drinks. Definitely a must go for anyone visiting Chattanooga!

My favorite restaurant in Chattanooga to date. The food is excellent, the cocktails are exciting, and the craft beer selection is good. They pride themselves on their house cured and smoked meats. They have a different beef jerky everyday, which we always get as an appetizer. My favorite thing to eat is the Salmon Pastrami BLT. It's AMAZING, if you like salmon. The Southern Antipasti is delicious and could easily be someone's meal. Basically, I've never had anything bad here, nor has anyone I've eaten with. Fun, posh atmosphere without being pretentious. The Beast and Barrel appears to cater to people of all ages and since it's located on the north shore, it usually isn't overwhelmed with tourists like the places over by the aquarium. You'll see all kinds of dress here- shorts and sandals and those just starting off a night out. Service is usually excellent. The staff is very personable and knowledgeable of the dining and cocktail menu. The last time I went, the service was not up to the normal Beast and Barrel level- the waitress was adequate and attentive, but obviously nervous. Maybe she was new? Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Beast and Barrel.

This is my teenage daughter's favorite place to eat. Their food is great. I am basically a vegetarian so I am happy they have some options for me to.

Everyone's dishes were thoroughly enjoyed. We started with a happy-hour appetizer called the "Single Wide Pork & Cheese Fries" which is mustard slaw atop pulled pork on top of fries. I'm not a fan of mustard slaw so I only sampled a bit of the pulled pork, which was good. One of the ladies in our party had a salad of mixed greens in a green goddess dressing with roasted beets and herbed chevre, which was so large she shared it with my wife. Both ladies had the Chickpea Burger as their entree and not a bite remained of either. I had the Steak Frites which was cooked to perfection and were so deliciously distracting, I completely missed what the fourth party member ordered. Service was pretty good and the large open windows gave a quasi al fresco feel but with the benefit of air conditioning to ward off the oppressive summer humidity. The downside is those same windows allowed in deafening roars of a motorcycle and later a Mustang revving their engines at the stoplight, wafts of cigarette smoke from the sidewalk, and bagpipes from a nearby street musician. But there is seating farther in the back if those types of intrusions would ruin your meal.

Spectacular service and amazing food. I haven't tried enough of the menu to give it 5 stars but I was extremely impressed on my first visit. Great atmosphere all around. For starters - our service was paramount. The staff was cordial and lively, and our waiter was amazing - extremely friendly and extremely knowledgable of the foods and drinks. He kept us laughing the entire night. Menu Picks : Jack Rabbit Slims,Duck Burger, and the local burger. For drinks we stuck with local beer - can't go wrong there. The Duck burger was mouth watering. The toppings were spot on with some kind of a berry jam and goat cheese - I told the waiter to have to the chef cook the duck to his liking, couldn't have made a better choice. The house made ketchup gets an A+ as well. And the jack rabbit slim onion rings were great, loved the honey drizzle. Great place for a nice casual date with a loved one or just an after work drink. Would recommend to anyone, and will definitely be making more visits.

Very very disappointed. I've eaten here several time and it was great. Today decided to get a Father's day dinner here that the family. Right off the bat the waiter didn't read the specials like normal. On ordering they were out of many items. It would have been better to ask what they had, verse the other way. No corn bread, no kraut, no salmon... Etc. Decided on crab cakes appetizer, one side salad, and one chief salad. One hour and 10 minutes later our for came out. The waiter apologized stating the lunch crowd "whipped them out" and they only had one server. I decided L, since my one year old was getting tired, to pack it up and eat at home. 20min later I got my food. Saw some friends enter and leave within 45 min, bellies full. Didn't even know how small my items were. Four small boxes contained $42 of food? My cheifhood salad had half a piece of pastrami and a quarter piece of chicken on some greens.... For $14.what the heck happened to this place. Talk about going down the drain! Don't plan on going baxk unless they shape up. Maybe they have new management? Addendum 6/22/15 Just called the beast +barrel to speak about what happened last night on Father's Day ( see above post). Needless to say I was put on hold for about 10 minutes in silence before I hung up and tried again. The second time I was hung up on! See picture with number for proof! Will now jot being going back or recommending anyone go here. Chattanooga has so many better places to eat, with great service!

I expected a lot better after seeing the pictures and reading the reviews. The service was slow and the food was okay. We came for a Saturday lunch and waited an hour and a half for our food. If I came back I would definitely not get any of the appetizers. The popcorn tasted old and was less tasty than was I expected. We got a sampler platter to try everything they seemed to specialize in. The jerky was so disappointedly tough. I don't even remember the other things but I didn't enjoy any of them at all. We got the steak and some fish. I will say those were pretty good.

I was stuck in Chattanooga this past Monday, because of the terrible snow storm. What better to do than explore? I stumbled across Beast and Barrel, and fell in LOVE. A warming environment, great bartender (Nina?), very friendly, and fun! Suggested her menu favorites, very helpful. Food blew my mind. Crafted by hand, you can tell its fresh! Fair priced, even had dessert, and ah-mazing. I had the Steak Frites, Cider to drink, popcorn for an appi, I cant remember what my dessert was called, but I want it for breakfast everyday. I cant wait to come back!!

Great place for food and drinks. I take in meetings during the day and use their wifi. The menu prices are about the same as most new places in Chattanooga but their happy hour food and drink menu is the best deal in town for great drink and food specials ( 3 -6pm). Have the burger or the onion rings. (these recommendations are my favorite but shouldn't be seen as what you can expect on the menu.) Everything has a French inspired twist without its signature sauces. It is all made with concern for the costumers palate. The only reason it is 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. The menu is about 12% overpriced. If that isn't an issue for you, pretend like I gave it five stars.

This was hands down the best meal I've had in a really long time! And I coming from madison, WI where there's a lot of great farm to table restaurants. I got the pastrami salmon sandwich and tried a bit of everyone else's dish. The sandwich had the perfect ratio of stuff versus bread. The bacon was delicious and the salmon was so flavorful! If I lived here, this would be my regular go to spot. Next time I'm here, I'll have to take another trip. My friends got the Reuben sandwich, chicken entree, and pork entree. All were amazing! Especially the chicken with the goat cheese mashed potatoes :).

  • Mike G.

I really liked it! There's for improvement like some others have suggested, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. We had a late lunch and the place wasn't very crowded. I wavered between the Reuben like sandwich or the duck burger. The waiter was very helpful when asked and suggested the Duck burger. My girlfriend ordered a cheesesteak. We also ordered the southern Antipasti plate to get a taste of everything. Service was very good and attentive. The Antipasti plate arrived. The good: the cheese, pastrami, and pickled carrots were well received. The needs a little improvement but still not bad, the pulled pork was fine, but lacked a real smoky essence, the jerky tasted good but very tough. Our entrees were good. The duck burger I would have again. My date commented that she liked the cheese steak, but would try something else next time. Give it a try.

Wow is all I can say. The service is amazing, the prices are reasonable, they have an amazing selection of local beers, and the food is KILLER! We started with the nachos and the BBQ sauce was utterly amazing - the cole slaw on top was just the right touch. I had the cheesesteak with the goat cheese mashed potatoes. The portion was HUGE! And delicious. The entire time I couldn't stop raving about how good it was. The flavor was insane. They age and slow roast everything. Wow. Just wow. Will be back for sure.

This place is so fantastic I want to rip it up and drag it all the way back to Connecticut so I can go every day. No, really. Beyond the great service (and great company of my favorite 'Nooga folks!), the menu featured a selection of upscale comfort food dishes, and the cocktails were pretty remarkable. I wavered between a few items (the duck & cherry compote burger and southern antipasto platter being two) and settled on the fantastic cheesesteak...not your normal cheese whiz here. House shaved ribeye, flat grilled with caramelized onion and mushroom duxelles on a toasted bun with wit cheese sauce. IT WAS THE BEST... I ate half then housed the rest in my hotel room an hour later. Now onto the cocktail. Smoke In The Water. Journeyman Buggy Whip Wheat whiskey, Pimms, B&B brandy, maple syrup, barbecue bitters, peach bitters, smoked ice cube, flamed orange peel, stirred. Yup. SMOKED ICE CUBE. Drops mic.

Wholly Chattanooga Batman, this place is outrageous! The curry chili was hands down the best chili I have ever eaten, even if it didn't have any beans in it. The bold flavor of the tex-mex chili and the bite of the curry is a terrific flavor explosion. The house cured meats on the butchers block was a wonderful starter, my favorite was the pastrami hands down. Honey says it's because they use juniper berries in their seasoning mixture, I just know it's yummy! This place is a must if you are in Chatanooga!

I've been wanting to try this place and finally had the opportunity. The menu looks so great and interesting. I love where Chattanooga's food community is going. The food is getting better and better. I ordered the Southern Antipasto Platter and it was very tasty. Lots of goodies like pulled pork, house made cheese, jerky, house made crackers, etc. Very interesting. Service was great. Server was very attentive and really knew the menu.

We were in town doing some shopping and visiting a friend at St. Barnabas. We passed this place on the way to the hospital and it looked good. So glad we went back for dinner. I had the filet with crab Hollandaise and my husband had the all day Italian meatballs and pasta. Velvet Devil Merlot to drink. Everything was absolutely top notch, BUT the best was our server, Johnny (from San Diego) who truly MADE the experience for us. He was highly professional, knowledgeable, on top of his game, kept my glass full and was an absolute joy. They are fortunate to have him. I 100% recommend this restaurant. Very cool, funky vibe, outstanding food and spirits, superb service. We will be back.

Best barbecue we have had since moving to Tennessee. The pulled pork was exceptional! They have two sauces. One made with a cherry coke and the other one had a nice spice and heat to it. They have a house made ketchup wich is incredible. Service was great. John was very friendly and helpful. Making recommendations, and kept our waters full and went above and beyond when we had questions. The only reason it wasn't 5 stars, is that we feel that for it to be true barbecue, there needs to be brisket. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Beast + Barrel was good but for a few missteps. The southern platter was good but unbalanced. Too much salty meat and just a few carrots and pickles to counter. Crusty crostini without something soft to spread on it and odd shaped cheese which was different than what was listed on the menu. But the pulled pork was divine and the jerky was delicious. The marrow appetizer was gritty with too many bits of inedible things to be enjoyable and the large tomatoes on top were too big to leave whole. We never got the crostini that went with it. The single wide loaded fries were delicious but hard to get all the layers in one bite. The bartenders were AMAZING. Best bet is to go for drinks and snacks.

Great good and great service. My wife and I had the Cheesesteak Wit Wit with Beast fries and it was awesome. Very nice, clean inside. We ate out on the terrace on a beautiful spring day. This is a new favorite for us and we will definitely be back soon!

If you like meat, then this is the place for you. They make almost everything on site. The décor is very nice and so is the wait staff. Very friendly and helpful! There is a window where you can watch the chefs prepare the food and fun to watch! The portions are generous and the prices are worth it. The pastrami is soooo delicious. Not dry at all, very moist and good flavor. Not too salty either. Their house ham is also something to try. So moist and full of flavor. The jerky of the day was molasses, but not my favorite. I liked the spiciness of the homemade grain mustard. How do you get to sample all these meat? They have a appetizer plate! It could be a meal in itself... it also comes with crackers and cheese... I also the pastrami sandwich. It came with the beast fries. Very good. May need a little salt... loved the sandwich... and was good as a left over too.

I live in Chattanooga and had never really visited Beast & Barrel often until I moved to North Shore. The food is not my favorite, but the bar is well stocked and the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. This is my go-to place to grab a drink if I get off work at a decent hour. If nothing on the cocktail menu appeals to you, the bartenders are happy to create a customized cocktail just for you. Love this place.

We tried this place while we were on a walk the place was empty but we still stayed and tried their sampler plate and everything was good but I was not crazy about the jerky. I also had the onion soup which was quite disappointing there was no cheese or bread in the soup even though the broth tasted good. We also tried some of the drinks and i have to say they were quite good.

Had a really awesome waiter named Taylor. He recommended the house special which was a huge steak and goat cheese whipped mashed potatoes. Amazing food! Awesome service. Will be back soon.

Do's and Dont's for Beast + Barrel: Do go and form your own opinion. Don't let mine influence yours. Do expect a bar that serves food. Don't expect a gastropub, they're not there yet. Do try the Singlewide app, sublime favors. Don't try the Wit Wit Cheesesteak if you've ever been to Philly. Do expect grease, just grease, to be a prominent flavor. Don't think meat won't dominate every dish, it will. Do understand this is a meat-craft mission. Don't be surprised there are misses, especially during non-peak times. Do know their pulled pork is one of the best I've ever tasted. Don't think their baked beans are anything I'd ever order again. Do know you can park out back. Don't think you won't surprise the hostess when you slip in the back door. Do believe this place has amazing potential. Don't think they've realized it yet. Do add a review that makes my two stars wrong. Don't think all the glowing 4 & 5 star reviews are accurate. Chattanooga's food scene is evolving and this isn't a 4 star experience...yet. Don't think I won't update this, I will. Do try Beast + Barrel and let me know what you think.

Seeing the reviews, we had to try this one - and WOW! Awesome food and great staff. Try the salmon BLT. Best one I've ever had. A gem in this city. My best recommendations goes to this place!

The food wasn't terrible, but the service was way slow (even though the restaurant wasn't full at all). For me and the hubby this is a tried it once and once was enough restaurant. My hubby and I ordered Long Island iced teas and the waitress told me that she didn't know if they made that which I thought was weird since they have a fully stocked bar. The only reason I gave this 2 stars is bc they do have great fries.

Menu looks like hype but the quality lives up to it. Very accessible for quality food. Goat cheese whipped mashed potatoes for the win.

I frequent this area and have eaten here multiple times. Service is consistently slow and inattentive. We have to go out of our way to be seated and have to "ask" for anything. Food and happy hour prices are decent.

Service sucked. Took FOREVER for them to get me my dressing for my salad and they forgot my sides. Our drink were always empty. Waiter said the manager would come out because we had issues with our order, some guy came out in back of the house clothes and asked hour our food was..don't know if that was the manger or not. Will not come here again!

I have been living in Chattanooga for the last 4 months and this is the best place that I have found to get a good meal. Great service fantastic, unique, food and the wait staff and management was on the ball! I will be back time and time again!

Happy is the day I found this place And have been back many times!! I'm probably picker than the average person because I'm a farmer and raise All my own gourmet meats ... Including a rare heritage breed lard hog that is excellent for charcuterie... So when dining at a local restaurant that says they source out a special cross of pig.. Had to try it... And honestly expected to be disappointed because so many just don't get good enough flavor to suit my taste buds in their charcuterie ... This place rocked my taste buds with though!!!! Oh my goodness!!! The things their chef does with pork! And not just pork! Smoked Duck and lamb belly have showed up on their plates too... House made pickles and mustards complete the plates. I would love them to try something with goose or heritage turkey ! I haven't loved a restaurant this much in years... I hope they can keep it up! Icing on the cake... They have a good selection of craft beer.. Many local TN brewers ! And their staff is excellent, quick and friendly!! Can't wait to go back .

Marcus, great job on the cheese sauce confusion. By the book, and successful in all aspects of customer service. Beast and Barrel is still a fantastic restaurant. If you're reading this review update, definitely go here. Have a (few) drinks, go for happy hour of you can, and have a great time no matter what!

I past this place 5 times the last time I was here. This time I'm not and I'm really glad that I didn't. They make everything from scat h in house. From the crackers to the pastrami to their own charcuterie. Now this place could be really dear to my heart if you know me. On this trip I was about to order the duck burger till out of the corner of my eye I caught house made pastrami. It's called the Big Katz like the deli that I have been to a zillion times. When I got my sandwich it was smaller then Katz's but the flavor was purely heavenly. My heart melted with a culinary pleasure. The pastrami was super tender and had a familiar taste of hickory wood that was used in the smoking process. Then after talking to the bartender/ server Dave who was very knowledgable about their menu. I learned a lot more about this place and I was loving every little bit of info I was being told.then he took me over to where they were curing their own salami and porchetta and even a speck was in he cooler. Now I can't wait to return and try a few more items on the menu. My mouth is watering as I type. If I wasn't from out of town working I would be here when they open. But, I will be here for dinner tomorrow. You can bet on that.

I took my family of four there for the first time. Sunday brunch was featured. The prices were reasonable and the food was good. The service was awful and slow. We waited almost 30 minutes to get drinks after being seated. My wife ordered the Bloody Mary bar and he brought a half shot of vodka with no ice. We waited another ten minutes to get a glass. We waited another 30 minutes to get food. Most everything was Warm but not hot. The potatoes were cold. Found out the most things are slow cooked or smoked. Not sure what the problem was getting already prepared food out. All the smoked meets were fantastic. I will go back only when there is no rush. The whole experience took close to two hours. I hope the get organized soon.

Had a great experience here last night! Couldn't find a place open went to yelp and they said this was open. Tired and hungry asked the bartender for beer and food recco's without looking I agreed. He nailed it.

I don't know what restaurant everyone else is eating at, but my experiences at this place have been one step above hospital food. If someone would put half the effort into the food that they do in the presentation of the place, some of the dishes might be enjoyable. Might be. We had a table of six for brunch and not one person had a dish they enjoyed as a whole. One or two elements would be tasty, like the bacon or gravy, but then be ruined by hockey puck sausage or burnt eggs. Seriously, how do you burn eggs? My only suggestion for visiting Beast + Barrel would be to have a painstakingly made cocktail on your way to a quality restaurant for dinner. Just make sure and give yourself plenty of time before your reservation...

All I can comment on is the service and menu. We arrived at 7:50 on a Sunday night (8/17) for our date night. It was slow. It took 15 minutes to be greeted at the hostess stand. We were seated in the front and waited for 25 minutes without being acknowledged by any staff. One waiter talked to nearby table and two others reset tables on each side of us. We left. The wine list is very pedestrian and safe. The owners must be opting for Costco as their distributor. If the employees are that disinterested and menu that bland, I have a hard time getting excited. We will see what the next restaurant in this location can do.

Just an uneven experience. The food is average at best the service fair. I just don't know what this place is or who it's catering to. Seems like an upscale gastropub is out of place in the tourist strip on North Shores Frazier Ave.

Delicious bone in pork chop! The atmosphere is elegant but relaxed. Excellent service! You must try the onion rings app. They were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My date had the Cajun fried chicken. That was delicious as well. This is a must try in the North shore area.

Matt Lewis and the wait staff went out of their way to make my fiancé's proposal to me perfect. We received amazing service and the food was of course delicious as always- all fresh ingredients cooked in house. We can't get enough of this place!

Their brunch meals are delicious; all of em! Great Bloody Mary and mimosa bar with lots of yummies to spice and deck em out. My roommates always order a bunch of seasoned jerky. I just had the delish rum butter popcorn. Service is great, I especially the server Brooke & the bartender Nina. I'll post a few photos.. But really, you can't go wrong with what you order.. It's all good.

I recently visited Beast + Barrel with a group of friends. We ordered several things so that we could all sample offerings. B+B is nicely decorated and we received very good service. Everyone we encountered was gracious and helpful. For this portion of the review, I give B+B 5 stars. Where I begin deducting stars is with the food. We started with the Anti Pasta platter. This was a nice sampling of meat. My suggestion would be more than one slice of gouda sliced in half and more pickled vegetables and more than three crostini's. Pickles would compliment this item. I enjoyed the platter. Next we ordered drinks. Nicely crafted Old Fashioned. Appetizers and cocktails get 5 stars. We ordered THE PHILTALIAN sandwich, which was huge and definitely sharable. I award three stars. We ordered The Local, a burger, and it gets three stars. We ordered the macaroni and cheese, four stars. Standard food, nothing special. Where this review plummets is with the crab cakes which were not fresh. They were made with what can only be described as ground meat with crab flavoring packed tightly like the salmon cakes most of were served as children and cooked in a cornmeal crust. I felt like I was eating a pre-prepped frozen patty from Costco. Any future returns will be cocktails only.

We stumbled upon this place by accident this past weekend. A planned trip to Ruby falls was scuttled by the allure of the art district and the walking bridge to the north side of the river landed us at the beast +barrel. The service was good and the garden salad we shared was fantastic. What got us was the specials for Saturday $4 glasses of wine on tap. Never heard of that and how awesome is that!? The free popcorn that was supposed to be cilantro/lime left a bit to be desired. Mostly it was just really buttery popcorn. But, the atmosphere was great; lots of people on a Saturday and it was fun watching a woman down an entire fleet of wine. We will definitely be back. And the fact that our male waiter wore make-up didn't bother us at all. In fact, I didn't even notice. My girlfriend did.

Anti Pasta platter... The real deal. Cheesesteak... The real deal. Duck burger.... Not very good. May be a hit or miss type place but the hits are worth the trip.

Absolutely fantastic. We went here on whim and were very pleasantly surprised. I had the local burger and my girlfriend had the snapper. Both were excellent. She had the cranberry Brussel sprouts which was terrific. She ended her meal with the Kentucky High Rise pie which was delicious but EXTREMELY rich. Couldn't be happier for choosing this place.

Yum! Loved the beef & lamb meatballs! My husband had "The Big Katz" (pastrami sandwich) and he really liked it. I had a bite and the pastrami was delicious. Also, having wine on tap makes me happy, so we will definitely be back.

Whoever wrote the menu had the presence of mind to label high gravity beers as such with a "HG" next to the name. This immediately elevated the restaurant from my perspective as, obviously, someone on staff has some level of understanding of the brewing process. Such a person would be in the desirable position of possessing both the knowledge and capacity to ensure only the highest quality of beer is served to the customers. Which is why I was so baffled when I sipped my Prima Pils(on tap) and detected a distinct note of cardboard (characteristic of oxidation and age). This style of pale lager hits it's peak level of necessary aging at the brewery and is immediately shipped out for consumption. As such, it should be served as freshly as possible. I assumed this to be a fluke and proceeded to order a second beer, Adam Bomb IPA. Carbonation level low, no powerful hop characteristic. This is a new beer for me but it did not meet the standards of the IPA style and I believe the distinguished brewers of Blackstone Brewing Company would be severely disappointed at the mistreatment of their ale. Perhaps some flaw of the beer serving system is at fault, or perhaps a cellarmanship class for the Bartender would be in order. Additionally, the Ribeye was sorely under temp and unseasoned. I prefer medium rare; red, bloody, and warm. But in this case the center never saw heat. And, please, do yourself a favor and toss some salt on that thing. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that service was exceptional. This is a new restaurant with no where to go but up. If they can just work out the rough edges.

I went to the Beast And Barrel yesterday (8/27). I had the Steak Frites and it was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere of the restaurant was perfect for enjoying a relaxing dinner with a few close friends. The staff is extremely charismatic, and give off a great vibe. DEFINITELY going back sometime soon!

The service was so slow! The restaurant was not busy at all! The food was terrible the menu had nothing on it! I will never be back to this restaurant! We are in Chattanooga all the time to enjoy good food so I would say don't try this place!

The space is great and we were seated right away. The menu offers something for everyone at reasonable prices. Decent beer on tap with full bar and super bartenders. We just had the anti pasta plate which was very good (the pastrami is exceptional ). I also had a bowl of soup which was not hot when it reached the table. The service was meh...clearly or server did not want to be there and never asked how the food was.

We were strolling along Frazier Ave. looking for a fun place to eat -- so glad we stopped in at the Beast + Barrel! The place is lovely -- black and white checked napkins tied around the cutlery, exposed brick walls, lots of wood, red painted pressed tin ceiling -- I would have expected higher prices, but for lunch, I spent as much as I would have at Cracker Barrel. Trust me, you can spend more at dinner if you have a healthy appetite, but I dare you to eat more than my husband;s giant Cheesesteak Wit Wit! I really wanted to try the goat cheese whipped potatoes, so I asked if they did a veggie plate. All of their "sides" looked delicious, and I also had the roasted beets and the citrus sauteed broccolini. While you wait, they bring you moist squares of jalepeno cornbread with honey butter. The service was outstanding and I loved sitting by the front windows watching people go by. The restrooms are clean and stylish, and I peeked into the rear area of the restaurant -- plush, upholstered giant booths look like a fun place to meet friends after work. So jealous that this place is NOT near home! And trust me, GET THE GOAT CHEESE POTATOES!! They hit every bliss point.

We have been here a few times. A great menu selection. Service is great; Christian did a great job. We have had, and can recommend the duck burger, crab cakes, beet salad, steak, soup, trout pate, anti pasta and a few more items. It was all outstanding!

This past weekend a group of 15 of us were visiting from California and decided to grab a very late night snack and drinks! Our server, Stephanie (I think) was super nice and helpful and even split our checks! They have great drinks and even wine on tap! :) Our food was delicious, I had the cheeseburger and my friend had the portabello mushroom burger...mine was good..hers was absolutely delicious!! The guys at the other end said their food was awesome too..not sure what it was though! The ambiance is really cool too with it's completely open front! Loved it!

I came to Chattanooga from Baltimore to visit my cousin and we stumbled into this Beast and Barrel. It is now my favorite restaurant of a time (and that's some pretty steep competition). The ambiance is beautiful and kind of masculine which is great. The staff was sooo lovely and helpful. And the food was ridiculously good!! This place is definitely a place that focuses meat. They smoke and cure their own and even have a jerky of the day. I am not much of meat eater myself but still found plenty on the menu to eat. I had the chickpea burger which completely exceeded my expectations. It was sooo good! I also had the grilled Caesar. Amazing. My meal was accompanied by one of their great handcrafted cocktails, I had a Pimms cup, which was stellar. We finished out meal with the ricotta and lemon curd benettes. Oh dear god they were delicious. We found out later this place has only been open for three weeks, they have it down. Perfect experience from start to finish and I have managed restaurants before. I know my stuff. Amazing place. Wish I could take it back home with me to Baltimore. A shout out to our server Billy! He was so great!! Very reasonable prices, great portion sizes, great drinks. Just go there!

Good atmosphere and a great location. I'm not sure why restaurants don't work in this spot, but I think Beast will change that. They are still working out a few kinks, but the menu, presentation and service are all there. Looking forward to trying it again.

Stopped here for lunch on our road trip down to Florida and it was perfect! Great service, inexpensive and most importantly delicious food. My fiancé is still raving about the pulled pork sandwich and my portobello sandwich was amazing as well. All the staff was very friendly and made great suggestions for us! Definitely would recommend this place to anyone.

Had dinner here on a busy evening downtown. We were seated right away. We ordered the took a bit to get our dinner order taken and the wait for food was a bit long, but everything that we had was SO good. I ordered the Duck burger. Yes. You read that correctly. It was out of this world. I opted for the turnip greens rather than the barrel fries and they were again out of this world. This is a definite must! Matt Lewis you have done it again!! Congrats!!

  • Blake W.

I really enjoyed their food and the fries are perfect. Some of the drinks are delicious, but they have a lot of gin special drinks that are very sugary and meat dishes and not much else. The atmosphere is very put together so it is a good place to take a meat loving gin drinker on a date. The service is pleasant. I would give it more stars if they had some more versatile special drinks that weren't mainly gin and maybe some more savory vegetarian options.

This place is a gem. Knowledgable staff, deep pours, and a menu unmatched in Chattanooga. Particularly of note: the smoked pork bisque is a must-get, because you've never had anything like it before. And the roasted marrow is expertly prepared and presented, and has a memorable, delicious flavor. Called the Bill Brasky, it's so good Chuck Norris is pissed it's not named after him!

We only stopped by for takeout before a concert in Coolidge Park, however I would definitely return again for the whole experience. The Reuben was outstanding! They use local, pastured meat, and the Reuben has house-cured pastrami and sauerkraut. Delicious!
