Diabetics at Whataburger

Diabetics need to be a bit cautious while dining at Whataburger. I've been a general fan of Abuelo's since it opened. Today's trip was both good and bad. First for the good: I've always been a fan of their chips - they are very light and I like that. They had a new serving of salsas this time. Now they bring out three bowls - one of green verde, one of spice brown and one of their regular. We liked this and it lets you mix your flavor of salsa to your own taste. Then the Bad: I a two enchilada plate with papas and beans. One spinach and Chicken. They had ladled WAY to much sauce on the plate this time - swimming would be the only way to describe it. The enchilada's themselves were fine - but I had to scrape most of the sauce to the side. Our water was generally friendly - although we felt a bit rushed when he brought the checks to us before we were even half way done with eating. Over all I give this visit a C+

Love the tilapia Veracruz . Usually a short wait but Sundays can take a little longer. Service is always good and the selections are awesome. My husband likes the fishbowl margaritas. Mystified why the statues are so crudely sculptured and out of proportion like oopa loopas and questionable chainsaw art.

Expensive and not good in my opinion. I'd rather go to a real Mexican restaurant. The kids didn't like it either.

Corporate had made some negative changes. The salsa comes out in small bowls first and the refilled on larger bowls. Bassackwards if you ask me. Large bowl first the small to limit waste. Waiter did not bring chips to the table eat with the refilled salsa bowls. UNSAT! The number of wait staff had been drastically cut to the point we are waiting for 23 mins as of now on the entrees. ANOTHER UNSAT!

I liked the atmosphere, the decor didn't seem to match the type of restaurant but perhaps it is channeling a vibe from Spain. Any who, the happy hour shaken margaritas was well worth the price ,$6.50 for 1800 is decent, it poured about 3 martini glasses. The spinachi mini chimis were nothing more than southwestern eggrolls....that eas disappointing. The dip sampler was good. I had the ribeye and it was excellent! It is very seldom I order a steak I don't have to season at the table. I can't really speak to the enchiladas as I didn't have enough room. It came with steak, mashed potatoes, churro beans (excellent) and two enchiladas. But I assume they were good as well because my doggie bag was absent the fridge in the morning. Lol. Will definitely be placing this restaurant in my rotation. I have passed this place hundreds of times and hate I waited this long to try. On a side note, my friend had the sea bass, and it was yummy and also a nice portion size. I will be having that next time.

Chicken taco. Out of control. Avocado enchiladas weird but great. Spinach enchilada again weird but outstanding. Chicken sour cream enchilada phenomenal. Chicken chile relleno badass. Chicken tamales holy crap it's good. Not sure what else I can say

I have eaten at Abuelos many many times and have never been dissapointed. One of my favorites is the Tilapia Veracruz. I normally do not venture into the seafood items if not a place that specializes in seafood, but the tilapia here is cooked perfectly as well as the shrimp and scallops that are in this dish. The sauce is very flavorfull a little tangy with the right blend of spices. I opt for the mexican rice for one of my sides. The rice is cooked perfectly, not sticky. For my second side I always get the seasoned vegetables. If there is any sauce left from the Tilapia Vericruz I mix it in with the vegtables.

what has happened to this place? AT one time this was one of my favorite restaurants but over the past few years the quality of food as well as service has gone down to the point I no longer go there.

Came here on a weekday at 8pm and sat at the bar. The place was emptying out. The bar staff was fun and engaging and they liked working with each other and having fun. Service was good. I ordered as suggested the pork medallions wrapped in bacon along with two enchiladas, one chicken with cream sauce one beef with spivey queso. Wow! It was delicious and big proportions. The spicy queso has some kick. Also, the chips and salsa were very delicious. They feature three sauces: I didn't care for the sweet sauce but the regular and spicey sauces were very very good. Can't go wrong with Abuelos. It's on the higher end of Mexican without paying a lot and the food is very good.

Very few places absolutely blow my mind but Abuelo's did not only that- it blew away my picky hubby. First off the décor- this place looks gorgeous and very cultured. We knew it was going to be a bit more expensive than our usual fare and were gambling it'd be worth it. Our hostess was also fantastic. She brought us salsa and started giving us tons of cool info about the different salsas. Hubby is Mex and I cook authentic Mex at home so I knew most of what she said but I didn't know that the spiciest one has habaneros in it. The waitress also informed us that we can trade any side for any other side and that they are very accommodating here so we can alter our meals as needed. Hubby decided to get the chicken menu sampler- The Monterrey with beans and rice. It comes with a bunch of different things and he swapped one thing out for a ground beef enchilada (though I don't remember what he swapped out). I took a gamble and got the Sautéed Chicken Zucchini extra spicy with Papas con Chile and Cilantro Lime Rice. The only thing I was surprised I didn't like was the Chicken Ranchero Enchilada because for some reason their grilled chicken tasted odd. But it may have just been that one night. When we did come back we tried some more new things. I noticed the fajitas had an option with pork in al pastor sauce and had to try it. It was fantastic! Next time I come back I want to get some enchiladas as I realized I enjoyed hubby's enchiladas the most. The flan tasted great but the strawberry that came with it didn't go well with it. Note: The little computers at the table were cool but not very useful when it came to coupons. Our waitress had to manually enter our coupon at her station. It all worked out but it's a good note to make. Loved: - Avocado Enchilada - Carnitas Enchilada - Chicken Enchilada - Charro Beans - Cheese Chile Relleno - Chili con Queso - Espinaca Casserole - Fabulous Fajitas Pork Tenderloin - Fajitas de Steak - Guacamole - Mexican Rice - Papas con Chile - Queso Diablo - Refried Beans - Sautéed Chicken Zucchini (extra spicy) (my fav) - Sour Cream Chicken Enchilada - Tortilla Chips Liked: - Abuelo's Dip Sampler - Fajitas de Shrimp - Fideo con Pollo (hubby liked) - Guacaomole (plain- just avocados) - Salsa Verde Disliked: - Avocado Cream - Chicken Ranchero Enchilada - Cilantro Lime Rice - Crispy Chicken Taco - Enchiladas Itzel (hubby liked) - Green Chile Pork Burrito (hubby loved) - Ground Beef Enchilada - Habanero Salsa - Nachos Grandes - Raja con Queso - Pasta Mojo de Ajo (with salsa inferno added; hubby liked) - Salsa Rojo - Shredded Beef Enchilada - Stuffed Chicken Medallions

I recently dined at Abuelo's for lunch. It was a late lunch so they were not too busy. I ordered chicken chimichanga with rice and beans and it was very good! The service was good as well. My server was friendly and attentive. I give 3 stars because I prefer a more professional staff. Friendly and attentive is great but overly chatty was a bit much. Not that I don't like to chit-chat! I can get carried away sometimes too. It's just a good thing I'm not offended by someone talking to me while I'm eating. Overall, it was a good lunch and I will return.

Excellent decor and excellent service...excellent fajitas...but bad salsa flavors (they give you 3 and we didn't like any of them). Thin and boring queso dip as well! Everything was of the utmost freshness but... I ordered the grande burrito and it was too too salty...but other than that it was good.

We are a group of high school friends, who have for the past six years next month, have dined out together every third Monday of the month. This was our first time at Abuelo's and will be our LAST!!! We have NEVER had such terrible service! Our waitress was quite unattentive and when she did visit our table, she got orders wrong, didn't refill our water glasses or bring our drinks, which we asked for several times. She even told us the frozen swirl margarita machine had messed up and was having to refreeze. The manager seemed to have no knowledge of this!! One of our party was not asked what she wanted to eat. Another member was ordering and the waitress went to her other table while she was still ordering. REALLY?!!! I asked her three times for another Skinny Margarita and it wasn't ever brought. Two of our party ordered food from the "Happy Hour" menu when we all ordered and were told 30 minutes later that they couldn't get the food unless they were sitting in the bar area. SHE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WHEN THEY ORDERED!!! As the clock ticked away, with her no show, I phoned the restaurant to request her presence. She came and we asked for to-go boxes & tickets. She wrote down each of our orders to make sure the tickets came out right, and she had them wrong not once, twice, but three times! At this point, a few of us were so upset that the thought of walking out was seeming to be a pretty good option!! I mean, to take an hour to correct tickets is outrageous! My friend sitting next to me said that after all the trouble we had had, that we should speak with the manager about the issue. She and I went to see him and found him attempting to help the waitress straighten out our tickets. I expressed our dissatisfaction about the entire dining experience and that we were requesting compensation, and he offered to take care of our meals. This was greatly appreciated, but could have been avoided had the waitress been properly trained! We blame both the manager, first and foremost, and the waitress for a terrible dining experience, and you can rest assured that we will NEVER return to Abuelo's again even though the food was great!! There was blame being put off on everyone in the restaurant and our waitress went so far as to say that everyone there tonight was new. SERIOUSLY??!! To the management: fix your issues or close!!!

What happened to this place? I moved back to the area after being gone for six years and I would expect a restaurant like this to advance instead of going in reverse. Mediocre service and what in the heck happened to the salsa portions. They now serve teaspoon size salsa portions. What a joke this place has become!

  • Robert H.

The salsa and the slices of chicken yet again save a horrible meal. It all looked disgustingly old and dry and was very much flavorless. Filet Mignon looked like it was throwaway meat served with a nasty grease sauce, the refried beans looked like a pie crust with cheap cheese melted on top of it and the rice was moist (surprisingly not dry as it looked) yet void of flavor. The tea tastes old and the service wasn't good. Took a very long time to get our food despite an almost empty restaurant packed with employees and she stopped by every few minutes to ask if everything was okay. Came over to check on us: how is everything? Oh a refill? Sure! comes back almost immediately: how is everything? Not to mention rudely interrupting us as we asked questions. Used to be nice place but the food is bad and the service is bad. How did they stay open this long?

Best crispy corn tacos (ground beef) in town - we have been trying these at numerous east Shelby County restaurants - these are fresh and tasty. My wife gives them the highest score possible with 25 out of 25 score. So far they are first place in the Memphis Taco Challenge.

I'm not usually a real fan of Tex-Mex type food, but this place hit the spot! I often drive by and have been meaning to stop in, today I finally did. The three salsas and chips they start you out with are excellent, as well as the habanaro salsa they'll bring you if you like hot! I had the avocado enchilada and cheese chile relleno, and boy were they good. The avocado enchilada was great! Was a little pricey for a lunch special but was well worth it. My fiend had the seared tuna and enjoyed every bit of it. We ordered cheese dip and was greeted by a huge bowl of yellow cheese, a lil different than most cheese dips at mexican places but this was chile con queso, not the best but got the job done, I honestly couldn't quit eating the salsas they were so good. I'll be back on another pay day!

I try ALL Mexican restaurants and find authentic Mexican to be the best. This is more of a chain. Salsa is delicious. Queso was the fake orange color. Quesadilla was pretty bland. I say this is typical chain food. I won't be back.

My husband and I recently moved to the Memphis area and we are looking for good places where to eat. We love to eat but eat good food. I saw Abuelo's as a nice place from outside which you dont see very often on a Mexican restaurant, so I decided to try it. Well the only good thing about that place is the look of it. It is a nice looking place but the service and the food were terrible. I will not go back ever.

When walking in, you experience a fine dining atmosphere, from the decor to a warm and friendly staff. One of the aspects that throws off the fine dining experience is the music chosen for this location, which is Spanish pop music (JLO Spanish). Looking over the menu, there is plenty to choose from. Selections ranging in categories from poultry, seafood beef and a separate section for TeX Mex, which is what we ordered from. The meal starts with a tray of three salsa's to enjoy with chips. This too has its Tex mex influence but is not all that bad. We got the chicken spinach chimichangas which was the best part of our meal, lightly fried and served with a sweet mango sauce. We both really enjoyed the appetizer. For our meal we split 'the grande' which is a huge tex mex sampler of their menu. Everything except the potatoes and the chicken enchiladas had a overpowering taste of chili powder and taco seasonings. The bread pudding was good and the iced tea was great also. Here is the thing - why would you want to pay twice as much for Tex Mex when Memphis has some fantastic authentic Mexican restaurants?

Recommended by several friends, we enjoyed dinner at this enjoyable restaurant on happy St. Paddy's day. We started off with hand shaken margaritas, which came in individual tumblers, chips and guacamole. Entrees included pork enchaladas for myself and fish tacos for the wife. Service was excellent. They have a very broad menu, and we will be back to enjoy some of the other tasty items!

Abuelos is like a fancier tex-mex restaurant that gives a really good, consistent casual experience. I have been going to Abuelos at this location since not long after they opened. They have changed a bit over time, but it is always good when I go; I never have an experience that does not meet my expectations. The service is always timely and friendly. The food is always served steaming hot and is just as good each time. Of course, it is not authentic, but it's about as good as tex-mex gets, so you can't go wrong. The ambience is great; it manages to feel open and cozy at the same time. It is often busy or crowded, but this usually does not pose a problem or worsen the service. They always bring great chips with a few different types of salsa. The menu is pretty diverse. If you go at lunch, you actually can get a pretty cheap lunch for $7-10 plus tip. Dinner is a little pricier, in the $12-20 something range. I always recommend this place.

Ambiance is wonderful and my waitress was fantastic! I was seated in a booth but tables are also available and look comfortable. Chips are served to everyone with a choice of three sauces; this was also a hit with me. A spicy choice, a sweet choice and a traditional choice is a nice touch. In addition the waitress did a good job of describing each in a concise manner. My visit was at lunchtime and the selections consisted of a nice variety. I might mention that the dinner menu seems a bit large and could seem overwhelming to some. My spicy chicken selection was good, hot and a good portion for the time of day (and heat outside). I'll bring my spouse back with me next time.

Pretty good restaurant. Good food. A bit pricey. The fish with shrimp and scallops that is a daily special is really good. I was not a fan of the fish tacos but they were happy to take them off the check and give me something else. The avocado cream is delicious. The chicken nachos are really good. They are a few really huge nachos. You can get them in many different kinds of meats for your individual tastes.

Really good food, much better than lot of Mexican restaurants in Memphis-Germantown area. The menu is also relatively different than any other classical Mexican food restaurant. I was impressed with the taste of food, menu and ambiance. Friendly service. Also, it is not very expensive place. I would like to visit this place again to try different things on menu. It is GOOD!

I honestly try to find positivity in every place I go to, but abuelos was such a disappointment. The atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous, but the food is not. I could not eat my meal, and even the cheese dip was mediocre. The salsa was okay, but nothing special. I did enjoy the heat of one of the salsas, but that's about it. I, unfortunately, left with an empty belly because I couldn't eat the dinner.

Big fun mexican joint. Food is good. Not great if you are looking for the quiet charming atmosphere the outside suggests. Great place to bring a group and have a casual talkative dinner. If you are looking for authentic mexican food, head down the street to the intersection of 64 and huston levee, Forget the name but the food is great and cheap. It is sort of behind TJ mulligans.

Beautiful Building inside and out! Wait staff is always friendly and helpful. Great place to go to visit with friends, however, the food just isn't that good! I've eaten here many times and quite frankly wouldn't go back if given the choice. 1) What is up with not knowing what kind of cheese you serve, I'm sorry but "White & Yellow" are NOT kinds of cheese! 2) Whoever cooks the Pintos, LAY OFF THE BLACK PEPPER PLEASE! Really, Pintos are quite a lovely bean, but given the amount of black pepper in them, you can't taste them. 3) The Rice is so bad, we order Potatoes, which are pretty good, actually, but who eats potatoes with Mexican food? We learned this early on (we've probably eaten here 20 times since it opened). I forget why the rice is so bad, but I think it has to do with too much black pepper as well. 4) Who puts sour cream in their Guacamole? Guac is made with ... well Avocados and garlic, onion, maybe some tomato chunks (at home I generally put in garlic salt and some salsa). So, let's take something completely healthy (fresh veges) add some Avocados for a wonderful dip, but forget the sour cream as it only adds extra calories, not to mention dairy that some of us don't want or need. 5.) I actually got STACKED Enchiladas yesterday, which I hadn't noticed on the menu before (mainly because I hated the cheese before, so I generally order a dish without so much cheese, Huevos Rancheros). They were indeed stacked, but ground beef??? Really???? Why don't you explore some Roasted meat, shredded, or better yet, try some Green Chili Turkey Enchiladsas???? THAT would be incredible! I'm assuming that 90% of the food in this restaurant is prepackaged somewhere else and shipped here, all they do is heat and serve. You pay a lot of money for this food, but it's not so good. My vote for best Mexican food still goes to El Nopal in Oakland! I DO appreciate the fact that your dining area is not littered with TV's as I go to dinner to eat, not watch TV!!! Thank you!

Abuelos is a good clean place to eat. They serve Mexican food and it seemed more tex-mex than authentic in my opinion. I chose Abuelos on a business trip with my husband. We took the advise of others and chose potatoes instead of rice and was happy with that choice. I also really enjoyed the sweet green tomato salsa. It wasn't really "sweet" but just good. We ordered the "Monterrey" and split it. We couldn't decide on what to order so this was a good choice. I really liked the stuffed poblano pepper on the plate. My husband liked the sour cream chicken enchilada. I was not impressed with the avocado enchilada as I prefer my avocado cold. The crispy chicken taco was good too. The spinach enchilada was just okay. I think going with chicken enchiladas would have been the best choice along with the potatoes instead of rice. Overall the dinner choice was good however it looked nothing like the picture posted by the restaurant. There was so much cheese on top it looked like one giant cheese enchilada(not complaining)! Our waitress Sally was very sweet and did a good job. The 4 stars is just for presentation and the avocado enchilada not being my favorite.

I ate here once 2 or 3 years ago I guess and never went back until last week. I remembered why I never wanted to go back. I don't get this place. What is it exactly? Something in between On the Border and a steak house? It isn't really Mexican, isn't really something else. I just don't get it. The salsa is just plain gross. I am a mexican-a-holic and salsa-a-holic and I only ate three bites. Comparison, when I go to La Hacienda, I usually eat two whole bottles of salsa by myself. I love me some salsa! But not this...it tastes weird and almost smokey. Reminds me of something you get in a grocery store in what is supposed to be the "gourmet section" that isn't gourmet, it is just gross. The atmosphere is nice....much nicer than the average Mexican place. It looks almost like a nice restaurant in a hotel or something. But seriously, the food is like On The Border or some chain Mexican restaurant and it is just so blah. The only thing I really liked was the avocado enchilada. That was good. But the chicken enchilada tasted like Stouffer's or something. I think I had a cheese enchilada also but I can't even remember and it was only a few days ago. What does that tell you? I had the mashed potatoes and they were good but....hello...what does that have to do with Mexican food? I realize this is some kind of hybrid place, they aren't trying to be Las Delicias or anything like that and I respect that. I am not some stickler for "authentic" Mexican food. I just like good food, I don't care what you call it. But this is neither Mexican nor good....I would much rather have Taco Bell than this. I'd rather go to the Bell and then take it to the Hyatt and eat it or something.

of course the place is lovely -murals ala Diego, paintings ala Frida ,art work and statuary all add to ambiance. Wonderful and unusual drinks. Food is not totally or authentically Mexican, but is that a bad thing?Waybetter than tex/mex chains. Abuelos has created its own niche

If you find yourself in this area and are craving some Mexican food, this is probably going to be your best bet. In a sea of El Mezcal's, El Porton's and a slew of other chain Mexican spots- I fear that Abuelos might be the top of the game. I wasn't overly impressed by anything we had here, but I wasn't completely disturbed by it either. They have a slew of enchilada flavors, but none that I tried (including the plain cheese- my staple) were worth writing home about. We actually went here at the recommendation of a friend who claims their beans are the best he's ever had. After this experience, we both decided he a) has no taste buds and b) cannot be trusted for any food recommendations in the future. I'll also give Abuelos props for having a much better ambiance than the other Mexican chains in this area. It's very open and has a rather large bar area as well. You'll also get good service here and your glass will always be refilled promptly. The food, however, leaves a bit to be desired.

The interior is nicer than most Mexican restaurants. I like that the salsa had a smokey chipotle kick to it. The chips could have been warmed. My enchiladas were very good; everything tasted homemade, right down to the tortillas. Beans and rice were typical. Service was standard. Prices are a little higher than other places, but the quality is a little better, too. The music was a little weird for me....Ricky Martin, Shakira, Beyonce (en espanol, claro que si) I don't know...something like instrumental Spanish guitar would have made for a more pleasurable experience.

Not your typical Memphis Mexican food. Abuelo's entrees are flavorful, a real delight to the pallet. I find the staff and servers to be prompt, knowledgeable and courteous. The atmosphere is bright and open, and the wall murals give you something to ponder while you eat. My favorite is the Durango Burrito, a shredded beef burrito topped with chile con queso. I also like their enchiladas and eat the Tilapia Veracruz when I want a change. The sides of refried beans, tapas and rice are all excellent.

The best Mexican food in Memphis!! Great food and service. Their prices are higher than other Mexican places BUT you get what you pay for.

Yes, this is a chain, but felt it my Mexican-food-loving duty to go on and review it for those of you who may not have tried Abuelo's yet. I've been several times, mostly at the request of friends or dining companions, and the convenience of the location near Wolfchase Mall. This is not one of my favorites for Mexican, but the food is good and the prices are reasonable. And they give you nice large portions of most everything. I think the best thing on the menu is the Enchiladas. They offer them 6 ways including Seasoned Ground Beef, Shredded Beef, Cheese, Chicken, Spinach and Avocado (my favorite). They have a side item here that I like too - Charro Beans. They are made with bacon and pico de galla and are really quite good. The atmosphere is nicer than most Mexican places with cute decor and lighting that isn't too bright nor too dim. Last, but not least - the Margaritas here are fantastic.

I completely agree that this is 'mainstream' American/Mexican food. It's very much chain food -- what I'd guess would come in the easiest-to- prepare-for-large-crowds form. It lacks homemade taste. But, if you're hungry and you want your taco fix -- it's good. They carry a good selection of salads if you're not feeling the heavy taste of refried beans. The grilled chicken salad is good -- with avocado, mandarin oranges, grilled chicken, golden raisins (I skipped the nuts and tomatoes), and a nice honey mustard dressing over greens. And they weren't wilted. It's a pretty busy place -- definitely family-style and worth a try for a reasonably-priced meal in a good location near the mall.

I've never been to Mexico so I don't know what Mexican food SHOULD taste like. I have, however, lived in Arizona for a few years and have had my share of Mexican food at regular mom and pops hole in the wall restaurants and big fancy ones; not forgetting yummy regional Mexican food at both of Rick Bayless' restaurants in Chicago. The food here is tasty. Very big servings and service is usually good. It gets a little slow sometimes when it's packed but nothing unusual from other chain restaurants. The tortilla chips are usually nice and warm and they serve a regular salsa and a small serving of spicy addition if you enjoy heat... the guacamole is alright - but not like Bayless' :) Clean, interesting decor, friendly (enough) servers and good food. Mmmm... melted cheesey anything never fails - much like bad pizza is good pizza, even bad sex is good sex (for a man) thus, you can't do too bad with Mexican food (but what do I know, I'm freakin' Chinese!) :D My favorite dish here is Mi Abuelo's Manjar - my grandfather's favorite dish (or something like that) - chili con carne spread over three ground beef enchiladas topped with two eggs (any style) with refried beans and papas/potatoes or rice (get the potatoes like almost everyone does). Like I said, it's A LOT of food. Be ready to pig out or have two Mexican meals in a row :)

I've never had a bad experience at Abuelo's and this time was no different. Good food and service. The pineapple verde salsa and the guacamole were very good. I ordered the Vera Cruz Tilapia and was not disappointed. Abuelos is my favorite "chain" mexican restaurant.

So I've hit Abuelos twice in 3 weeks so I have a pretty good feel for the food. They recently went through a menu change and decreased some of the size of their massive platters, unfortunately my favorite item is now gone. The sangria swirl margaritas are good and the chips are thin, warm, and crispy. They've increased the price of their queso with seafood which I've really loved to $10. Service is hit or miss but if you're in need of a frozen drink on hwy 64 it's decent.

When we first walked in to Abuelo's, I figured it would be to Mexican what Olive Garden is to Italian. As a matter of fact, It actually reminded me of a Olive Garden by the décor, not at all like other Mexican places but it was nice. We arrived around 4pm on a Sunday. There were only about 6 or 7 other tables dining so we were seated as soon as we walked in (its a pretty big restaurant) Probably about a hour into our meal the place began to fill up. Per usual, we were given chips and salsa. We were given 3 different types of salsa: Regular, REALLY hot, and Verde. I fell in love with the chips, they were really light and crisp. My beau ordered me a blended sangria, it was ok. it tasted like a margarita and I really was not in the mood for a margarita. He ordered himself a mojito which was delicioso! I ordered the Monterrey, which was a Sour cream chicken enchilada, beef enchilada, spinach enchilada, chicken ranchera enchilada, cheese chile relleno, chicken taco and guacamole. It also came with papas con chile and beans. My guy kept it simple and just ordered a dip lol. I was not able to finish half of my food, my guy actually commented that it did not look like I touched my plate at all while boxing it up to go. Could be because I ate so many chips while waiting on our order. Although I initially had low expectations (I hate Olive Garden) I will have to give Abuello's a thumb up. I would dine there again.

I still love Abuelos. I know that it's not a local restaurant and I have a little guilt over that, but their enchiladas are probably my favorite in Memphis. Servers that go above and beyond, the best call-ahead seating, and easily sharable dishes make this place a place I continue to crave.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
