PO House, as everyone locally seems to call it, is very good. I love the beach shack atmosphere of their restaurant; they did a great job making it feel like you are on the beach. They have a dinning area, a bar, and space out back that is great for groups. They also have "life-size" Jenga! :) Their food is good. My husband loves their Oyster Chips, and we both enjoy their Fried Soft Shell Crab Soft Tacos. I am not in love with the Oyster Chips, but I think that is just person preference. Instead of the chips I get their Fried Mac & Cheese which is pretty awesome. Enjoy!

Amazing scallops wrapped in bacon. Hubby had the Martha's Vineyard ribeye~ with the fried corn fritters in pepper jelly it was a wonderful meal. No wait time, meal was served up quickly. Our waiter was delightful too. Great service and great food!

now ya'll gotta know what you're gettin into. This is a casual, fun, laid back place to eat. The quality of food is good and southern. Lots of seafood choices with a side of hushpuppies. The outdoor bar is a great hangout in the summer. The place is loud, like southerners can be when they're happy and eatin. Note, this place goes by "Po' House"

Been here several times. A few good appetizers such as the alligator cheesecake but I have yet to find a main course that's great. There's not much to be said about this place, nothing to scream about and definitely not a place I would wait for a table.

This place goes by the name of Po House. The food was good, the service was good and the list of craft brews available was pretty decent. I had the crab cake sandwich. I really liked it; so much so that I finished the whole thing even though I was full 2/3 of the way through it. The crab chips just taste like homemade potato chips. They were alright, nothing special. The bar has an outdoor area with some outdoor games like horse shoe. Looks like it might be something fun to check out another time.

Been here umpteen times and always great. Alligator cheesecake is awesome, as are the burgers and shrimp. The fish is always excellent and waitstaff is always pleasant. My favorite place in town for food and beer selection.

I took a chance and ordered crab cakes. I've long since come to learn that ordering crab cakes is a real hit or miss kind of thing. So before I ordered, I asked if the cakes were more breading or more crab. I was told more crab. Wrong answer. The crab cakes (more like crab pancakes) tasted like crab flavored stuffing. Like I said...ordering crab cakes is a hit or miss proposition...in this case miss. Cole slaw was good. Hush puppies were good. Crab chips (basically homemade potato chips) were ok. For what its worth, we asked the hotel people where to get good seafood and both desk employees recommended this place. So I guess this is as good as it gets in Sumter. I rated it a 3 but only because 2.5 wasn't a choice.

The PO house always seems busy, but not packed. Last time I was there, the parking lot was full but we had no problems getting a seat or good service. The price were good, as was the food and the we selection

My dad warned me when I said I wanted to go here that he drives by it every day and it's always packed, even for lunch. So at first I was a little worred. We had a group of 5 that went after attending the ShawFest Air Expo that day on May 5th. I noticed there are 2 new reviews from that same night which complained of a long wait and bad service. I was shocked seeing that because we went the same night and although I have to say the server was slow, we had a great experience. We went to dinner about 6:00 and was told there would be a 30 minute wait for the table, however 5 minutes later we were seated. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food but it was obvious he was running around like crazy so we did have to wait a while before we got our order put in. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't really a big deal. I also grabbed an order or half shell oysters, which were perfect! And HUGE! The food is great. We ordered the "Alligator Cheesecake" for an appetizer at the server's recommendation and was totally impressed. I ordered fish tacos (because that's my thing, if it's on the menu, I order it!), my mom tried the Shrimp Po Boy, my Dad had the Jack Daniels shrimp, my husband ate the Surf N Turf and my son had the fried shrimp. Not one complaint on the food. We had a great time and I plan on going back. I'd like to go on a day that it didn't rain so we could see how it is out back (but I'm a little worried about bugs).

Seafood with a southern twist. We liked it and the beer list is amazing. The fish Reuben was very good and the seafood grit appetizer was great. We will be going back. Casual and easy going atmosphere. The place is always packed. A bit expensive. We went back two nights ago and on tues and thurs they offer shrimp and grits and I have to say it was very good. I have never had this dish anywhere else so I have nothing to compare it to, but I liked it. My husband got the jalapeño burger and homemade chips and liked his as well. We tried three new beers while we were there. A Belgium cherry beer(good) similar to Kriek in Belgium. A stout 16% dark dark beer, it was the size of two beers easily and my husband did not like it or the $14 price tag. The other was te American pale ale, he like this lighter one.

Always love coming to Po House. Good food, good beer, good music, good atmosphere. Ask for the specials--there's always something delish available.

I've eaten here 4 times now and every time the food and service were great. Their new dish, the spicy lemon shrimp, although not very spicy, is pretty darn good. I'd also recommend the alligator cheesecake, Cajun burger and don't leave without trying a basket of the corn fritters. Addicting. Also, Gregery was an awesome server. I'll definitely ask for his section again when I go.

Love this place. Great selection of microbrews, amazing seafood entrees and appetizers, and corn hole out back. Definitely the place to bring a group of friends for a good time.

Awesome beer selection (and cheap too). Great service. I'm only sad that I got to try this place once. The seafood boil was very good.

Group of 5 check in and told there was a 30 minute wait so we went to the bar where we paid for 4 beers when we ordered 3 ( we didnt figure this out till after we paid) . 1 hour later we were seated and then another hour later our food made it to the table. We asked for the manager because we saw another table get seated after us eat and leave before we got our food. The manager said sorry we were busy and he wished that he could do something. I have worked in restaurants and the manager can always do something offer appetizer or something, UNSATISFACTORY!! Won't be back!!

We found his place on yelp and the rating was dead on target, it was great. Great service and friendly people, it was busy but not crowded. Great beer selection but most importantly great yellow fin tuna special. Tilapia stuffed with crab was also great! We were driving through heading to Georgetown, and now we will make this a mandatory stop in the future.

Been here about 6 times. Always had a great experience. Food quality is great for the price and the atmosphere is not too loud. Staff seems to be knowledgeable about food and beer selection. The only place in Sumter with a decent beer selection. My only complaint is that the bathrooms only accommodate for one person at a time. Plus, I can't stand Jimmy Buffet; every other song is Jimmy Buffet. As for the food, appetizers are great. Fish tacos are awesome while the sandwiched are good. Worth the trip if you're in the area.

I'm giving 5 stars for the beer selection and great service!! My husband had the Anderson Valley Summer Solstice and the Dogfish Hellhound Ale. We had the corn fritter appetizer which proved delicious from all the previous yelps. I tried the crab. It was cooked perfectly. It's always a celebration when the meat comes right out of the shell in a full chunk. My husband had the Salmon New Orleans. He said the sauce was a great match to the dish. We will be back!!

Great atmosphere, Cool decor. Lots of seating inside and out. Fantastic beer selection. Good service. I ordered a buffalo shrimp po boy. It wasn't on the menu but buffalo shrimp and bang bang shrimp po boy were so i asked and they put it together, no problem. The sandwich was good, the shrimp were cooked right (not overcome) but it would have been better with a real po boy roll. The bread they used was softer than a po boy roll should be so it didn't support the sandwich well and fell apart quickly. Still tasted great.

We really enjoy our lunch at the P. O. House . The swordfish sandwich and soft shell crab tacos were very flavorful. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxing. We will be dinning here in the future. I hear their steaks are fantastic.

So, after picking places to eat through the time my family was visiting... I decided that they should pick the place for dinner their last night and give it a shot. Not so sure where/how they found it, but here we were pulling up toPalmetto Oyster House. I was ready to eat and review, but decided to check Yelp and see if there was any recommendations... but, to my surprise, Yelp didn't even have this location listed! So without further suspense... Yelp meetPalmetto Oyster House, andPalmetto Oyster House meet Yelp!! This spot is seafood heavy, as the title suggest, and tasty. My fiancé and I decided to split the shrimp and crab legs front their steamer menu, but started off with the corn fritter apps. The corn fritters were very 'hush puppy' like, and not corn heavy like most that I've had. But still very tasty. The crab legs (1 pound) were 3 clusters strong. I was ALMOST dissapointed with them, the first cluster was soft and undercooked. Slightly 'mush' in the consistinty department. Thankfully, however, the last 2 clusters were perfect. Well cooked, not season heavy (but not forgotten), and just the right amount. The shrimp were also very good. They were peel and eat, so equally as much work as the crab legs, and also very well seasoned. We followed these up with the simplistic Crab Chips, which are actually house made/fried potato chips. Also seasoned, and not just salt and pepper either. Tasty! Everything was very enjoyable, well made, and service was on par. Ambience is nice, like a more casual Red Lobster. Definitely a tasty catch to try. :-P

My hubby and I always enjoy the PO House, we typically go the bar for a few beers and the crab dip with chips. There is a "regular" clientele that sit back there, and we have become part of it over the past year or so. Paul the bartender is a great guy, who is always attentive, and pretty much knows what you are going to order when you walk in. We have eaten a meal there on a few occasions, and its been very good. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a relaxed atmosphere, with good food.

This place gets 4.5 stars for their beer selection and the service. They have about 10ish beers on tap and a 5 page menu of bottled beer - top notch. The servers were all nice and friendly. It being August, I was a little hesitant to order raw oysters...but based on it being an "oyster house" and on the urging of the waitress I got 1/2 raw. This was a mistake. They were awful. #1. They looked odd (grey and overly meaty), #2 they tasted gross (weird flavor and, as indicated, too meaty). I spit the first one out, ate another one to be sure, and spit it out too. Are these South Carolina oysters? If so I feel bad for this state because those babies are gross. They are nothing at all like gulf, northeast or northwest oysters. blah!

I like to bring my out of town guests here for the cute atmosphere and great service. I love how they have corn hole boards and giant Jenga outside. They have a great beer list and full bar. Those little fried dough balls they call "corn fritters" come out with pepper jelly and are really addicting! The food is always good, I've had the fried oysters, shrimp & grits, shrimp tacos, & blackened fish. Beware, the seafood nachos are very creamy (but so delicious)!

Love the food and the atmosphere! I've always gotten excellent food and excellent service. It can be difficult to find a place to park at times though.

A shrimp, a scallop, and a fish fall out of a boat into a Paula Deen cooking class where imaginative young cooks dream up clever, flavorful combinations. Serve that up in a brickskeller where you can get 500 different beers, ciders, and wines. Friendly staff, fairly clean, and low noise, so it's easy to carry on a conversation. I'd go back tomorrow.

I really enjoy PO House. Seafood themes bar food and a great atmosphere. It's fun and laid back and has a great selection of craft beers. I love oysters, so I was really thankful for a decent place to eat oysters in town! The summer time set up is awesome too with the yard games and porch atmosphere. Pretty cool spot to hang out and grab a drink even if you aren't hungry!

In town for few days with my 14yr old daughter who plays professional tennis. I use yelp a lot now because of all the travel and we are soooo tired of outback, Applebee's etc... I usually pick food up as she is tired to go out after tough days. So I went in here got myself half dozen raw oysters and a Guinness while I was waiting for to go order. Oysters were great the beer was Guinness !!!! I ordered pinwheel salmon special for my girl and grouper special for myself and she likes steamed shrimp song got 1lb to split. Everything was the best I ever tasted and we eat out everywhere. These guys in Sumter know about seafood !! We are coming back to this place for sure!!!!

There is a lot to love - and unfortunately a lot to hate - about this place. THE GOOD: Best beer selection in town (like 5 pages of different styles and brands from all over the world), they also have Harpoon IPA, my favorite from back home. The grilled swordfish is probably the best I've had anywhere (and I'm originally from New England, I know my fish) although they have it only as an occasional special. They usually serve it with a cajun creole sauce but ask for that on the side as it interferes with the taste of the grilled fish. Besides, the cajun creole stuff is fantastic to eat by itself. The swordfish club sandwich is also very good (albeit a bit greasy). The lettuce shrimp wraps are wicked good and perfect when you want something a bit lighter. One of the best burgers in Sumter. The alligator cheesecake is unique and tasty although it is also very rich and filling so it really needs to be shared by more than one person. Service has always been very good although if you eat outside in the front, expect to wait a little longer. THE BAD: They tout themselves as the best seafood restaurant in town but the selection of fish and seafood on their menu is severely lacking. Not only that but what they do offer is probably 95% fried. Despite their love of deep frying everything, they do not have french fries which, for a place like this, is inexplicable to me. Instead they offer "crab fries" which are basically just potato chips with some kind of seasoned salt on them. Whenever we go there, my kids complain constantly that they can't get fries with their food. The best options are usually found on the nightly specials menu but they are also a lot more expensive, sometimes prohibitively so. If you and your wife each get the specials and then add a few beers or glasses of vino, the bill can easily start creeping over a hundred bucks with tip, which is way too much for a place like this. If it was a bit cheaper we would definitely eat here more often. One night on the way home I stopped in to have a beer or two at the bar in the back and the young guy working behind the bar was extremely rude with a nasty attitude for some reason. Not sure what his problem was but from now on if I want a beer on the way home I go to Legacies instead. I guess I could sum the place up by saying it is a bit overpriced (like most places in Sumter) but I can honestly say I've never left disappointed in my meal. Just wish they would add more fresh fish and seafood to their menu.
